Hottie with a brain...loved him long time
a knowledgeable teacher , take him if you want to learn something... H.S
Dr. Lechelt makes government fun. Seriously. He is very knowledgeable and an extremely personable guy. He shows a lot of interest in his students, and is open and honest about his own life. His class is never boring, and I always leave feeling as if i have just learned from a friend. Classes are guided discussions, and let you form your ideas.
Dr. Lechelt is such an awesome teacher. Whether you're fascinated with gov't or just taking it for fun, he won't let you down. He's got a great sense of humour and he's extremely knowledgeable. He really does make learning about government fun. However, don't be fooled into thinking that the tests are easy. You gotta study pretty hard for them :)
Great teacher, great class. The only professor I had better than "Big Daddy" was Dr. Sue Moineau when I studied in CA. Those two should get married and name their son Jube. PS: He is a phat hottie.
Interesting use of jube in a quasi-Moineau type of setting. Where as Dr. Moineau would, in effect, suck you into her cavernous classroom, Dr. Lechelt (schwoogie bear to his class) uses a more of a Gerbanian-Woodleean style (AKA the Coyle methodology). Also, he is cute as a button.
The worst teacher at NOVA in the two years I have attended. He doesn't know how to teach and exams are very hard. He does not give study guides or review. He expects you to write 10 essays and grading is harsh. This class was a waste. Class discussions are trivial not related to the class. Don't take him if you want a decent grade.
Hard essays but easy tests if you study
easy easy tests, plus lots of bonus points. but the essays will really get you. he grades essays really hard.
(Summer Session Intro. to I.R.) Super likable. Brilliant sense of humor. Very interested in what he teaches, and very smart about US politics. He should stick more closely to the material, though, and organize his class better. Too often it felt like he talked about whatever he felt like. Nevertheless, I'd recommend taking any class he teaches.
Professor Lechelt is a great and kind professor. You will do fine as long as you pay attention in class and do the reading. Very knowledgeable in US Government. Classes are fun, interesting and he shows lots of videos. Totally recommended
He has a sense of humor but his exams are almost impossible to past, the highest grade on the midterm in our class is a C and most of the students failed miserably.
WARNING!!! If you want an A or a B do not take this class unless you?re a politician or a political science professor, because he doesn't go over the material in class and he doesn?t give study guides on exams.
Wacky!
I took PLS135, and i had the worst time keeping up with the slideshows. he gives way too many notes that at the end dont even make sense. He never lets anyone leave early and if the class is 1hour and 45mins you will stay 1hr+45mins.He's not bad!but he's not that great either. You can try taking his class you might like him.
Dr. Lechelt's humorous teaching style facilitates lengthy class discussions that tend to descend into utter and complete chaos/absurdity. However, his course work is nothing to laugh at, and he will not hesitate to grade harshly if one doesn't apply themselves fully. On the whole, he's a knowledge teacher who talks the talk and walks the walk. DC
I really liked him personally and as a professor. I learned a lot from this class. He is extremely competent and approachable. Take good notes and review them before the tests, and you'll do fine.
Awesome teachure. Loved the discussions and every minute of his class. I learned alot and had fun while doing it. Exceptional Guy!!
Professor Lehelt is the GREATESST! His quizes are pretty well to where everyone can pass as long as you do the reading and his essay's are a little difficult. But overall he's AWEOMSE! He's kinda funny too.
Not organized at all, very late to respond to emails and not helpful. I did not have him in the classroom, therefore, there is a chance that he might be different, but for online course or a coordinated internship he is horrible!
Take notes and study them. If you do, you'll pass.
He's a good professor. Talks a little too fast and goes over the slides too fast, as well, but he makes the class easy. I HATE POLITICAL SCIENCE! that's why I did not find the class interesting, I am a science (bio, chem) person but I still got an A. Not easy tests, but not hard either. Review your notes.
TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! He is such an awsome teacher. As soon as he walked in to class he had everyone laughing. He makes the class so much fun which is good because you stay awake. He does go by the slides a bit fast, but talk to him and he will make sure you get them. Attend class and most importantly take good notes n actually review them.u will pass
Funny, concise, and easy-going. The weekly book quizzes are very easy. Midterm and final are simple if you review your notes. He takes attendance, but I missed several days and still got an A. Take his class!
Take his class. Just do it. Test can be difficult but just review your notes. And go to class so you can take notes. He will explain anything to you just ask. Hes funny and very knowledgeable. First day its a bit surprising kind of like "is this guy for real"as he runs into class with a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup sweatshirt on.
This teacher is awesome. Very funny. Lets u leave early and is always willing to help u out. I love this teacher and I'm gonna take him again if at all possible
The best professor at NVCC! P. Lechelt is very helpful, understanding, informant, knowledgable, & FUNNY! Attendance is mandatory, why miss a class offering so much to learn about the world & your own backyard?! Exams are easy if you study & take notes. Couple book readings, always on interesting topics. Class discussions are great. TAKE HIM!
Professor Lechelt's class will never leave you empty. Always interesting lectures & class discussions. Must attend class, study notes given in class, read books assigned, minor easy quizzes, & a load of interesting info learned. Funny professor w/ the best jokes! All college courses should be like Lechelt's. Easy, fun, informant, & inspirational.
3 words...JUST TAKE HIM!
A rather easy course. Show up, do the reading/book quizzes, study the lecture slides which are posted online. An easy A if you do all the work and participate.
Awesome professor
Great professor! If I was a poly sci major I would take him as much as possible. Make sure you keep up with the reading, because there are quizzes every class about what you read, these are 40% of your grade. Overall it was an awesome class Mr. Lechelt is funny and very informative on all political areas.
He is very FUNNY!! His exams are hard make sure you study the slides about 20 times before taking midterm and final! Which are both multiple choice. There are book quizzes which are not multiple choice but they are easy just do the reading and participate and come to class you'll pass! Take him.
Dr. Lechelt is very straitforward. Expectations are clear in the syllabus, and he does not stray from them. He is a very amicable person, and his lectures are laid out well. He has a great sense of humor, which helps keep the class light. He encourages class discussion, but is quick to move things along. Amazing professor! One of the best at NVCC!!
All I can say is please take him, I highly recommend him.if you really want to learn something in the political world this professor knows what he is talking about and he keeps the class so entertain that you wouldn't even realize that 3 hours passed I still have to take one more PLS and he is my 1st choice
Dr Lechelt is a very strait-forward professor in his expectations. He expects you to read (you will have mini quizzes that are very easy if you do the work), and two exams. The exams are also easy if you spend time (a lil) and study. His classes (I've had two) are never dry, always engaging, and he encourages debate and questioning. He is amazing!
Really funny and really smart. Tough on attendance. Discussions in class can take over the class. No textbook needed, HW was reading about 50 pages a week out of a novel. No essay, just 2 scantron exams with 25 ?s each. Prof is very knowledgeable. Easy A if you study the slides, do the reading (it's interesting!) and show up to class.
No!!!!!! Never take this class with this professor. No Study Guides!!He rambles is class about nothing!! To many bias opinions..He's a republican and make's it clear!!! Make's horrable jokes about woman which are offensive.(sexual jokes)He's lazy!!! will not turn back u assignments in a timely fashion
He is actually a really great professor. Super funny and seems to care about how you do in the class. I found him very interesting my first day and haven't missed a class. Just do the readings, download the power points, and stay off your cellphone during class, and bring him a pack of gum, and try to make him bring up his nickname.
He acts like a ass on day 1 but his a great teacher. His funny and helpful and give lots of extra credit. He takes forever to grade the quizes tho. and you must read a book every week and its a very easy to read book so don't worry about it
Horrible. Lectures are about anything he finds interesting that has nothing to do with class. We got through beginning of Sept lectures on syllabus and its Dec. Weekly paper that is due that has nothing to do with lectures. Will not return assignments so you have no idea how you did on them. 2 Tests on slides - memorize it he does not go over them.
Easy Class. Got an B for the Final Grade, would of gotten an A if I studied for my final exam but it is what it is. But if you looking for a funny teacher take him.
Cool guy. Yes, he might be scattered at times and you do have to do weekly readings but he picks really interesting books and its not difficult material. For the quizzes, either you read the material or dont, and even if you only half paid attention to the books you could get all the answers on his quiz right. Exams are tough, memorize the slides!
Awesome! Has a quirky funny personality and really knows his stuff. Yea exams are totally based on the powerpoints, but if you study them youll do fine. The ppl complaining about not getting the quiz grades back are obvi the ones who didnt read the books. Offers a TON of Extra credit.Dont miss class, participate, stay off ur phone and youll do fine
Tries too hard to be one of the guys and forgets to be a teacher. Does not control class discussion and gets off topic far too often.
DO NOT take this class. This professor is extremely difficult to follow. Gets off topic ALOT! Makes you read books that have nothing to do with learning politics. The midterm and final would have been easy to pass but since he did a terrible job teaching it was hard. Don't take unless you can teach yourself!
AWESOME. Wants everyone to do well and have fun in the process. No textbook required and all exams are off powerpoints. Great teacher if politics is not your thing but want an interesting teacher. Highly recommend!
He actually made the subject interesting. He clearly defines his expectations, if you follow them, it is an easy A. Do take notes beyond what is on his PP slides. The nuances are what are on the test. I thought he was nice and interesting and I'm a bit taken aback by the poor reviews, I wish all teachers were so clear.
teacher is nice, you need to stay on track, class is intresting you do learn, mostly from power points. the test are all based on those and class discusions, read the books assigned or you wont pass, very easy going guy, but you need to stay organized and follow your grades, sometimes he gets unorganized, I WOULD recommend taking this teacher.!!!!
Professor John/Jack Lechelt is probably the coolest professor at Nova. For everyone who wrote comments saying he was bias is completely wrong. If you got offended your a sensitive young lad/gal. He is very knowledgeable on just about everything. You don't need to buy a $85 text book only two cheap books from amazon. I highly recommend him!
Amazing Professor! I'm going to take more of his classes! I wish everybody could act like Jack/John... The world would be a better place if we all did! On a serious note, He does do a great job teaching. His required class readings had great insight on Foreign Policy. I highly recommend!
Professor Lechelt is an intriguing teacher. He is laid back & loves his kids. People who dislike political issues will get bored easily. Someone in class gets off topic & opens up a whole new subject (very annoying sometimes). You need to come to class & study powerpoints to pass exams. The grades from book quizzes are literally worth a lot!
I took him over the summer and he wasn't as good as everyone made him out to be. Attendance isn't mandatory but we had a quiz every single class so you had to be there anyway because he wouldn't let you retake it. Too many quizzes, no textbook needed and it wouldn't hurt if we had a study guide.
Dr. Lechelt lives up to every nice thing that has been said about him. If this isn't your subject, he will make the experience as pleasant as possible. If you show up, read the material and put away your phone, you'll be fine. -I--
If you never show up for class, you won't do well. But, if you plan on skipping class, plan on not going to college. He keeps things light, entertaining, but challenges you. It's like a real world college course. Don't want to do readings? Don't go to college. If you enjoy learning and a challenge, you won't find a better prof than Dr. Lechelt.
I am not a politics fan, but he makes it a bit more tolerable. If you are a person who craves structure then don't take him. Sessions do get off topic but I don't mind it. The quizzes he gives are not hard at all, just stay on top of the reading.
Good teacher. Interesting and engaging. Always willing to help. Didn't need an expensive textbook, just a couple of non fiction books I could get at the library or cheap.
This guy, wow. Short tests throughout, which were literally baby level and required only a light reading of certain chapters before class, no mid-terms, no finals and above all, keeps things interesting and fun in class. Encourages debate among students to keep them stimulated. You want a class with an easy course and yet want to learn, this is it.
He is so fun, lectures a lot but no exams! he assigns a book or two to read and gives a quiz from a chapter on the book you read. which means if you don't like to read don't expect to get an A or even pass, there will be 15 quizzes during a semester and each week gives one out. easy grader not worries, if you read the book youll most likely pass wA
Professor Lechelt would have to be one of the best teachers I've had in a long time. I honestly hate government, it bores me but he made me challenge myself in order to actually understand the criteria. I highly recommend him for anyone who doesn't really know much about government, cause no matter that, you will get an A.
If you take this class online, it will be awesome. I took this class this semester online and I passed it with an A (a 95 to be exact). There is a ton of essays and discussion boards and you have quizzes every week. If you follow the deadlines and read the text book you should do fine. Make sure your essays are coherent and good too.
He was a good teacher, 8 week summer course and it was very fast paced. Since it was 8 week everything was doubled up but there was an assignment and quiz for each quizsection and for the 8 weeks it was 2 chapters each week. Exams were tough but then again I'm not very into politics in that way. As long as your complete everything you'll pass.
Really enjoyed taking his class! He does not show bias towards any political party & allows you to voice your opinions in discussion board posts. His quizzes are easy as long as you have the textbook or Google. He made a mistake with my grade one time & immediately apologized & fixed the mistake when I pointed it out. Great professor & class!
Makes crude but funny jokes. Interesting person. Had him twice and id definetly take his class again.
Dr. Lechelt is easily one of the best professors at NOVA. He's extremely knowledgeable about government, politics, and economics, and he's always willing to discuss current events. He's really funny, but very serious when it comes to in-class participation. If you're not big on talking in class, you must put effort into your written assignments.
John Lechelt is one of the best professors I have seen in NOVA. He is funny and teaches well. But the Problem is that there is a quiz every week and there is also many essays to be written.
Professor Lechelt is by far one of the best professors I have had at NOVA. He knows how to make his lectures funny and engaging. It is refreshing to find a professor who shows no bias to a particular political party or ideology. He does not require a textbook but he does use books relevant to class material which can easily be found at a library.
When I thought of politics, I was scared to take this class. Honestly thought I was going to fail. John Lechelt is well educated, funny and easy going. He cares for his students. The lectures are eh but the conversations on Thursdays with current events are fun. As long as you read the chapter before the quiz, you will pass. Lastly no phones. (:
He is GOD and GOAT
- Don't bother buying the textbook... go to the libary and skim the book. - Read you actual book - Go if you just want to warm up a seat... not really sure what I paid for if that is the case.
Dr. Lechelt was an amazing professor. I genuinely have never had a professor like him. He graded quickly, gave great feedback, and was there to help whenever I made mistakes. ProctorU messed up my final and he responded within the hour re-opening it for me so that I didn't fail. Definitely worth taking.
He is a very good professor ! You only need to attend class and complete a few of the assignments that he provides in order to pass without a problem. He provides the midterm and final exam questions. This professor has a great personality and he is very funny during his classes.
He is passionate about the subject and gives interesting lectures. He is very clear about grading assignments. Highly recommend his class.
One of my favorite online professors at NOVA! Using the textbook isn't a must, but all the quiz questions come dirrectly from the book. I took this class as an 8 week summer class. Two chapter quizes a week, a few discussion boards, and three quick essays. If you're interested or just need an simple elective, take this professor!
Not for the feint of heart! If you take him you will learn a lot about how politics really play out.... with a side of comedy. I appreciate that he is obviously passionate in what he does. Make sure to pay attention because this class has a lot to offer!
I've taken 2 of Dr. Lechelt's classes. He's one of my favorite professors at NOVA. PolySci can often be boring but he makes it interesting and often funny. His classes consist of reading 1-2 assigned books with weekly quizzes on those books, participation during each class, and a final review essay on those books. I would definitely recommend him.
I tried to take as many classes as I could with him. There are two books you'll read in the semester and you take a quiz each week on the assigned chapters. Other than those, there is no homework. The final is divided among a semester-long paper. He relies on people to put their input in the lectures. Awesome lectures.
I took this online and it was super easy. This was my second class with Lechelt. Amazing dude
He is an amazing teacher. Should take it!!
There was a lot of reading and writing. It's politics, which is always interesting. A very easy class if you just follow the syllabus and complete the work. The professor was very involved in the discussion boards and graded all assignments in a timely manner with feedback. The bulk of the work took place before the mid-term, not a lot after.
Professor Lechelt is such a great professor to take. He really cares and wants his students to succeed. Sometimes will even go out of his way to help students with difficulties they have or with accessing course material. He also has a great sense of humor which makes you look forward to every class of his. Not to mention his political wisdom.
He is really good at lectures and gives good feedback on assignments.
literally best professor at nova I've had him for two classes and id do more if he taught them he's so funny and super caring and nice I accidentally withdrew from his course and he helped me enroll into it again and maybe my life 100x easier I had a panic attack and he just helped and accommodated me I actually stan him he's iconic 10/10 prof
I took online async. 7-8 essays, midterm/final (lockdown browser btw) is based on readings and quizzes, a good chunk is word for word. You learn so much in this class. He's nice and fair in grading. Do the work, and you'll pass. One of the few classes I've taken that are actually helping people understand the world. Take him, you'll learn a bunch.
Dr Lechelt was incredibly awesome and amazing! He really knows his material very well!
Great professor! He will go out of the way to help you and really knows his material very well! He's just an incredibly awesome and amazing guy!
Professor Lechelt is a great international studies teacher. We spend time in class going over international politics and talking about international events. As an IT major, I genuinely enjoyed taking a political science class with professor Lechelt. Easy to do assignments given every week, 2 tests, and a book review. The book is $10 for paperback.
Dr. Lechelt was great! I took two or three of his classes and enjoyed every single one. If you don't do well on an essay, he will let you know exactly what you did wrong so you can do better on the next one. He also gives enough assignments to offset a couple of bad grades. He's a phenomenal professor!
He was AWESOME! Get ready to read and do research, but if you put in the work, he will give you great feedback and is available if you have any questions. I really wish all my professors were as involved, even if it was an online class.
Lechelt? No, Legoat (Greatest Of All Time). Great guy and perhaps a better professor.
One of the best professors I've had! Engaging lectures, timely feedback, and plenty of opportunities to succeed. Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for study prep. Definitely take this class if you can.
