Leland is the****. A real nice guy that will go out of his way to explain stuff. He won't even get mad at you if you're a total goof off in class!

He is an excellent geology teacher. Everything is great about him, except his tests are a little hard. All of them are fill in the blanks, and a couple of essay questions. But if you study than you will do fine on the tests.

I definitely reccomend this teacher!! He helps you out when you don't understande something ans really wants you to pass..I suggest going to the S.I.'s; they help A LOT!! Do the work and extra credit and you'll get a god grade.

Great teacher. He always makes the class fun and in the mean time teaches you material thats nice to know as General knowledge. He gives out 3 tests all worth 80 points and a final of 160 points. Also he gives you the study sheet like a month before the test so you can be ready. For sure take his class dont expect it to be a walk in the park.

Nice guy and a pretty easy class. He's a bit moody sometimes however most of the time he's nice and funny. He makes the subject (which otherwise would be boring) interesting.

He makes the class interesting. His speeches are very clear and focused. Moreover, you will definetly learn things just by listening to his speeches. It is very helpful to you throughout living. He will give good grades if you just memorize, listen to his speechs, and take notes.

Mr. Leland is a wonderful teacher, he tries all the possible ways to help his students to get good grades. If you are a foreign students, he is the type of teacher that do not care about your grammar mistakes on tests. On his test he grades fairly, if your are close to the correct answer he gives you points any way. Axcellent

He is a great teacher but the class is kind of boring.. the lab is MUCH more interesting, and u actually learn more.. get LOTSSS of sleep b4 the classs or else you will knock out the second he starts lecturing.. but studyy for the tests, study wuts on the study guide and you should do fine :)

Wow! This teacher is completely amazing. He is the most funniest and niciest teacher I have ever seen. His class is very very easy. He makes the test easy for you. All you have to do for the test is to memorize everything from homework and you will be fine. Just study from notes and homework and you don't even have to read the book. TAKE HIM!

Also had him for Geology 111. Nice teacher with a good personality. Just take good notes and memorize everything on the Study Sheet and you will get a good grade. Plus, you'll learn a lot of interesting stuff about CA and earthquakes. Highly recommend this class. The workbook is not needed so don't buy it. Textbook is sufficient.

He is very nice person and helpful. He gives study guide for each exam and the exams are all from it. Only you have to do to get an A is remember the terms on the study guide and related pictures. That's it. I took his honor class so I needed to do extra assignments but, instead, I didn't have to take the final.

Whoever wrote that bad comment is wronge. It is geology rocks,volcanos,fossils. Any other teacher couldn't do what he does. He gives you homework, goes over it with entire class giving answers. Don't think just because the lab is one unit it'll be easy. The lab is hard. You have to study. He's a very good professor but the lab requires way more work than you would do in your other one unit classes but if yopu have to take this lab, make sure you take it with him. LELAND is the man for Geology.

Professor Leland is an extremely knowledgable geology teacher and explains the content pretty well. If you have issues, he is more than welcome to assist you during office hours and sometimes even in class. I would recommend taking his geology class to satisfy your physical science or just take him in general, it's worth it!

You cannot go wrong with taking this professor. Stay on top of the hw because the tests are based off of that, pay attention during lecture, and you'll do good in the class. Great class. All the tests are straight from the homework. It's an easy A if you do the homework. He has a great sense of humor and loves Geology. You learn a lot of interesting stuff. His lectures are really easy to understand.

His tests are a lot of memory! For his final we had to remember 200 vocab words and questions. This is not as easy as I thought, but I think anyone can pass just study a lot. Half of my class thinks they failed. Fun teacher and cute. Just study and youll do fine

Amazing teacher! The tests are SUPER easy if you pay attention in class and do your work. He doesn't give a lot, and spoonfeeds you all the information! he's nice,he gives us homework with terms and questions.Every other week we have a quiz,they are multiple choice. usually there's one diagram we have to draw, for example the earths internal structure. Then keep the quizzes because the questions repeat in the Tests multiple choice qs.the hw's questions are the exact same test questions.Good luck

Geo lab...20% of the grade was attendance so dont miss at all. Very good teacher and fair about tests, usually just repeats questions from the labs...yet its not exactly easy--a lot of memorization. had to memorize 20-30 rocks for 2 of tests. I got an A but felt that I put in a good amount of time for just 1 unit.

He is a great prof. but you must work extra hard in this class, homework must be done on your own. Although he goes through some of the questions, so PAY ATTENTION. I suggest doing a study group twice a week before an Exam. Study with people who are serious with getting a good grade. Ask questions if you dont understand or your lost

Great professor, definitely one of my favorites that i've had during my stay at GCC. Took his Geology Lab, he was extremely helpful. His second and third midterms were tough as you had to memorize various rocks(not as easy as it sounds).

Prof Leland might be the coolest prof. hands down! Very down to earth & he is easy going with students. Keeps the mood happy but focused on the task at hand. Prof Leland is one of the best professors I've had at GCC! He's a fair grader, and he is fairly easy. Don't think that you won't have to try at all despite his easygoing nature though! You will still have to study (sometimes it's a fair amount but it's completely manageable), but he is always so helpful so it is definitely easy to get a great grade

Dr. Leland is the greatest geology professor one could ask for. He knows what he's talking about and is also passionate about his work. Tests are short essay questions but if you keep up with lectures and homework you'll do fine. He's a reasonable grader. Incredibly helpful and respects his students. Mr. Leland is the best professor in class. His lectures are precisely clear, he knows how to be in their shoes as well. Tests are based on homework and the C is around 65%. A good guy to have but his test is hard that he offers little to no partial credit. He does give extra credit. Make sure you ask him to help you buy the correct textbook online.

He's an amazing professor. He will clarify everything to make sure each and every student understands. He does exam reviews. 101's exam is strictly off the online homework and 111 is mainly memorization/understanding the difference in rocks. Good teacher, extremely straightforward and his tests are based off online hw. They are short answer tests but he gives you a study guide to help. Theres no need to purchase the book for the class, only the pearson program. If you do the hw and study you can get an A with no problem.

He was one of the BEST professors I have ever had. he is easygoing and very cool. homework are online and no matter what is your answer you will get credit. he always gives study guide which are EXACT same questions as homework which you have already had the correct answers, so you just need to learn the answers. there is NO trick on exams.

Took Prof. Leland's lecture/lab together. HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking both with him. For lecture don't buy book b/c all homework is on a website that has everything you need for the class. Took geology lab, mainly memorization of rocks and their characteristics and towards the end he gives out test review packets which help tremendouly if you study them well. There are four tests, do not miss class because vital information will be lost and your test scores will suffer study and you will get an A. Very enthusiastic and kind guy.

This was the easiest A I had gotten, his tests and study guides are the same exact question word by word and be gives the answers to the study guides, so all you have to do is study the study guide. The class can't get any easier. I can't believe people are actually complaining, ridiculous.

Professor Leland makes Geology one of the best class experiences I've had. He's knows his job well, he cares very much about teaching well, he's funny, and clear. He tells you what to pay attention to to prepare for the exams and there aren't surprises on the exams. He's easy to communicate with and will help you understand Geology well.

I really really loved leland! His lectures are interesting, and helps you on the test. He gives 3 tests worth 45% of your grade and he gives you a study guide and everything that will be on the test. Hes so funny and dorky. Your study guide is your bestfriend for the test! His "review" is him answering the question on the study guide so it becomes more of a memorization thing. His lab is tougher, he has you memorize 24 rocks at once for exams, But its a lot of fun! His energy really rubs off on the class! Really helps tries to help you succeed!

Dr. Leland is a great guy and a great professor. He's very knowledgeable and funny. He's very clear on what will be on the exams and goes over every possible concept that may show up on the tests. The tests are usually 12-17 written responses. The only thing that kinda sucks the extremely high amount of HW

Leland is such a nice, easy going person. You really have to be lazy and try to fail this class, in order to actually fail. There is no way you'll fail if you do the work. He gives all the answers for the test questions. The HW is a lot, but you can find the answers on google 99% of the time (he doesn't mind that). You don't need the book at all.

*I also took his Geo111 Lab. I'm not the biggest fan of the physical sciences, but he was so. Much. Fun. I loved going to his class; he is so friendly and he jokes around. He almost doesn't feel like a teacher because he's so chill, but the way he teaches you still learn the material.

Professor Leland has got to be one of the most enthusiastic professors in the Science department! His lectures require some good penmanship, but apart from that, class discussions are a lot of fun to engage in and occasionally, he brings out some elements like physical rocks and geological videos and images to help make it very easy to understand.

He gives you the answers and it is YOUR CHOICE if you show up to class that day and if you take down notes. Homework is a breeze if you do it daily, atleast 1hr a day. Took this class because there is no mandatory fieldtrip that is part of your grade. Very chill class. The classwork you do he never collects, but you must show up cause attendance is 20% of your grade. Tells you how to prepare for tests and provides study guide. Lots of rock stuff and it gets dull, but John is nice guy and always willing to help.

Wonderful professor, no classwork, attendence does matter, and study notes he gives you before the test! Take this class, you won't regret it.

He is a very nice guy, but the material he gives is too heavy, I barely passed the class. The tests were not multiple choice, you have to write out your answer so you really have to study. There is a lot of hw and memorization, so be ready. If you take the class pass no pass you'll be fine. If you don't study enough, kiss that A goodbye.

One of the best professors at GCC! No HW, but he has study guide ?'s for exams. Same questions from study guide will appear on exams! He knows the material, cares for his students, & is literally wholesome. Don't take his kindness for granted and not do anything in class. Overall, easy A professor if you're completing GEs, & also take his lab! :D

I wish I had more space to write about Professor Leland. He's one of the most caring, respected, enthusiastic, and informative professor's I've taken. I was honored to take both his Lab and Non-Lab course. Non-lab, simple homework, and 3-4 exams, all answers are given by lecture. Lab, no assign. but purely graded on exams. Top tier prof. in GCC!

John Leland is probably the best professor at GCC. I enjoyed taking him for both Geology 101 and Geology 111! Thank you Professor Leland for an amazing semester.

All homework is take home. No cheat sheets for exams but lets you bring in your study guide for extra credit. DO THE HOMEWORK WHEN ITS DUE! I finished with 101.6% because the extra credit for homework is abundant and EASY! Favorite teacher so far at GCC. Loves to laugh and dismisses class early. Gives 100% for completion of group project.

Prof. Leland is one of the BEST professors at GCC! SO helpful, so enthusiastic about geology. He truly helps 100% of the time. I took him for both lab and lecture, and would hands down take his class again, if needed. Just make sure you do your assignments. For lecture, do the HW bc thats your exam. For lab, the labs are your exams.

Mr. Leland is one of the best profs in the science department at GCC. I took him for both Geo 101 and Geo 111 lab. His assignments are not that hard, you just have to put in the work. Very understanding and funny as well. Take this professor, trust me you wont regret it. Easy A, just have to push yourself a little bit.

Took his class in person but had to switch to online because of COVID, very easy A just do your homework the answers come directly from the textbook. It appeared that you did not have to attend his lectures but it sure does make assignments easier. Assignments and projects might seem like a lot of work but they are easy and worth a lot of points.

John Leland is the type of teacher that won't get annoyed when you ask a lot of questions. He is very enthusiastic about teaching the subject which makes the class interesting.

Take this professor u wont regret it at all. Easiest grader ever. Passed the class with above a 100. Theres EC for almost every assignment. Extremely nice and caring guy as well. Is super sweet and easy to understand. Do your work and youll get an A plus. Take him trust me!!

Professor Leland class is very easy because he is very caring about helping out each and every student both in and out of class. He is very understanding and just by doing his assignments and you will be good to go and also dont worry too much about his exams because they are not that hard to do and he is a very easy grader.

I got over 100% in both 111 and 101, there is a HEAFTY workload for this class like I spent more time on this class than calculus and programming combined which I found odd. The teacher is AMAZING he's really nice and there are tons of extra credit opportunities, he's extremely kind and good at teaching. He cares.

Honestly, I never went to any of his classes. Its not mandatory but his hw may seem a lot tho its easy to find the answers online. He makes you do study guides (4) which he tells you what to do thoroughly although the answers are literally in the hw. You have four projects & gives extra credit in hw so you can easily pass with an A.

Professor Leland is a great geology teacher. He's patient, passionate, incredibly knowledgeable, and wants his students to succeed. Lots of homework that takes more time than you'd expect, so don't procrastinate!. Take notes during lectures to help you with exams which are open notes. Not an easy A, but a certainly an achievable one.

Professor Leland is very nice man and shows a strong interest in teaching geology. There is a lot of work that he gives for the labs, but don't let that discourage you from taking him. They are very easy to get an A on! Plus his exams are based exactly on what he gives you in your labs!

One of the best professors at GCC. Lecture attendance is not mandatory but recommended. Hes very passionate about the subject and it makes for an entertaining course. There is quite the amount of work but it is straightforward. Just do the assignments and you will get a good grade. He is very caring and understanding professor, which is refreshing

One of the best professors I have had at GCC. He is extremely understanding and as long as you put in effort in your work, your grade will reflect that. Great class, if you need to take a lab I 100% recommend taking it with him. His class has very clear grading criteria and is not test heavy. I learned a lot in this class.

Very easy and enjoyable class. All the assignments were clear and direct. There were 3 video projects, which were fun to make. He is an easy grader and gives extra credit when you show effort. No points taken off for late work, but make sure to take the exams on time. Exams were a little hard, so make sure to review notes and homework beforehand.

Definitely take his class! He is kind and really cares about his students. He has a few exams through the semester and a question set that is turned in before the exam (it works as a study guide), other than that there is not a ton of work. The question set is a lot but he gives most of the answers during class. He is a very generous grader!

Professor Leland is such an amazing professor. You can't go wrong with him. He has a nice easy going personality and is incredibly patient, understanding and has a great sense of humor. The workload isn't too overwhelming and he does make accommodations when necessary. Again, I highly recommend him.

Professor Leland is the best. He makes geology interesting. I honestly am forever changed by the knowledge I've acquired from this class. I took the 8-week course and it was a lot of homework and reading. You can easily fall behind if you don't do the work. I would definitely take another one of his courses.

fun & awesome & interesting prof! lab was so fun with all the cool rocks, amazing hands on learning experience! exams werent rlly hard & alot of them were group exams! graded on worksheets,tests,project,&attendance. make sure u go to class its easy points& u will not regret it, this was the coolest class ive ever taken! professor leland R O C K S !

Prof Leland makes this class super engaging. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the MyLab HW and projects. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for study prep - highly recommend it alongside the textbook.

Stop wasting time researching whether he is a good or bad professor and sign up for his class! He is hands down the best professor and the class can't get any more stress-free. He is funny and keeps everyone engaged. The workload and tests are very manageable and 99% of the work is group work. Just show up and you'll be more than good.

Dr. Leland has been the best professor of my college career so far. I took both the Lecture (GEOL 101) and the Lab (GEOL 111) from him and he was so engaging and interesting that I honestly considered switching my major to Geology. He loves his subject and meets his students where they're at. Take his class!

I currently have Professor Leland as my Geology professor and I absolutely love his energy so much! I HIGHLY recommend taking him. I was worried about taking this class with all my other classes, but now I look forward to attending and it doesn't even interfere with my other classes. We rarely get work and labs are so fun!

He is a great professor; his lectures are great, but he will talk your ear off, lol. No complaints.

I took a condensed online version of Geography 101, so my schedule was a little hectic. Even so, I managed to earn a "B" grade. The class would've likely been a breeze if not for this. Several of the assignments were quite fun. I recommend this professor.

When I had trouble with an assignment. The professor adjusted his office hours due to me not being able to meet during his "online hours" because of my schedule. So we did an online zoom meeting while I was at a local park. At no point did I feel he was trying to rush me at all in the 1 hour zoom call I had with him. He truly went above and beyond.

Don't get me wrong he's a very caring professor and probably the best bet for this subject, I saw some other comments saying all the tests are group, thats partly true but only a portion of it, the rest is yourself. Be ready to teach yourself cause you aren't gonna learn much from the lab itself. BE CAREFUL ITS NOT AS EASY AS IT SEEMS!

did lab in person+lecture online. lecture super easy, always chances to get extra credit, doesn't take points off of late work. I got an A+ in both classes. theres only 4 exams the last one being a project. the first portion is group second individual. as long as you show ur putting in effort and memorize example questions on the board youll pass!!

I'm currently taking him for fall 2025, both his lecture and lab. He is truly such an amazing person who just loves rocks. He cares about his students and wants all of them to succeed. It's actually hard to fail his class. He does grade attendance. I get fomo when i miss his class. We have a joke that I eat his rocks. #BESTPROFESSOR

Took him for both 101 lec online and 111 lab in person. Super easy class on both ends. Just do the work and show up. The online lec he gives a ton of extra credit so its easy to get an A. The in person lab requires a lot of group work but still really easy. Just a great guy and great professor. Take him.

He is the best ever! He is so caring and understanding, and if you need help, he always takes his time to explain so you can understand what he's teaching. There's a pretty a little more than decent work for GEO101 (if you take it online like I did), but they're pretty easy to do. His lab is also pretty easy and engaging. I highly recommend him.
