This professor is a best teacher i ever had since college start.. I think he's funny... he will make you laugh the whole day if he can.... his tests are pretty easy.. it consists of two chapters for each test.. t/f..and mulitple choice test.

John is honestly the best professor I've ever had! He is very helpful and encouraging. I had him for public speaking and also for argumentation. There wasn't a day that i didn't look forward to going to class. I am majoring in speech commmunication because of how much i enjoyed his classes.

I've taken Dr. Lervold twice (GWC & CSULB) and loved both classes. He's fun and smart. I actually used what I learned in Public Speaking last week (I gave a speech,duh!)and it worked!!!

LOTS of work, but if you keep up with it and ask him for help, he's an amazing teacher who actually CARES about students (especially those who want to learn). Any class this guy teaches I'd reccommend taking...plus, for the ladies: he's total eye candy!!!

I had him his 2nd semm. teaching at GWC, He insisted that we called him john, AWESOME man, great teacher... I HATE SpComm with a passion but for once I didn't miss one class of his.

I had so much fun in this class! I didn't feel like i was in class (if that makes sense.) He was very helpful and VERY funny! I totally recommened him!

Dr. Lervold is a funny teacher who cares about his students. I hated public speaking the first time but I made it through with an A. Easy. For the three tests, study the chapters in detail. Tends to be opinionated politically. More conservative than liberal politically when he sometimes talks politics but is fair and lets people speak their minds.

Dr. Lervold is by far one of the best professors. He is able to break fear barriers and brings out the best speaking and humor in every student. You will miss out if you do not take Dr. Lervold for Communications.

Yes the book is boring,the only thing i used it for was the way he likes you to have Intro, Main point, etc. He grades your speeches by those steps,then he grades you by your presentation,then how You were during it! He is very awsome and is not affraid to speak his mind. I was laughing alot cause if someone sucked he would kindly tell them!Got A

I took comm 100 this summer as an accelerated course. He makes the class very interesting, fun, and he genuinely wants people to do well and learn. I loved this teacher, I'll be sure to try to take him again and I recommend him to everyone.

Mr.Lervold is so funny and so helpful! I choked on all my speeches because I am so freaked out about speaking in front of people and he still was helpful and always nice! Notes are helpful and Test are NOT hard! No need for the book really b/c the test are on lectures.... Grades fairly but does not grade down for stage fright! TAKE HIM! I got a B!!

His classes, while sometimes long, are normally entertaining. He takes the #1 phobia, public speaking, and makes an environment in which you aren't afraid to get up and stutter. His lectures and tests come straight from the book. If you are having trouble or not understanding something he is extremely approachable and seems willing to help.

this is one of the best teachers i can ever hope to have! I truly am sad that this class is over. Dr. Lervold is an amazing and outgoing instructor, with an ability to make public speaking way less intimidating. You even have a good time. He is clear, the material is clear, and his grading is straightforward. My only criticism: he is so adorable, that I had a hard time paying attention to lectures.

This is my 2nd class with Dr. Lervold & he is one of the best prof. I have ever had. He makes learning fun & exciting. I would not recommend his classes for people that get embarrassed easily. He is very enthusiastic and will make you laugh. He truly loves what he teaches & makes learning enjoyable. Definitely 2 thumbs up!

Class was fun, Dr. L would always try to make it fun, all quizzes and tests are based on his lectures, so you need to come to class to take notes, if you take offense to profanity try another teacher, but otherwise, his class was real fun, and I learned a lot

If theres one class that I would retake, it would be this class. He made fun of everyone. Although I took him for summer, I felt I took it for a whole year. It was sad to see the class end. He say what is on his mind and crack jokes as he teaches. It's an easy class to pass. How you fail, i've no idea.

Great class! I don't like public speaking so I took it over the summer. He made it interesting and was good about helping me feel more comfortable with speaking.

Really cool guy, very funny, but he can be a bit annoying if you're shy. His tests are mostly lecture based, so book isn't absolutely necessary (I got an A w/o it) if you take good notes (powerpt) and you are a good test taker. 3 mc tests, a 3p essay, and a group presentation. Be ready to take some ribbing, but he's the best prof for this course.

Lervold is a really fun teacher! I reccommend him for everyone. I got a B but if I tried a little more I would have gotten that A. He requires you to read the chapters from the text and be prepared to come to class knowing your material to participate in class discussions. Funny guy and never boring!

At first, I was dreading this class. Professor Lervold actually made it enjoyable! He taught the material well and always had funny stories to tell that related to the topic. However, read the material or he will ask you to teach the lesson for the day!

When teaching the class John goes over the chapters you will need to read but keeps it very interesting. His personallity is the kind that makes you laugh constantly from his straight forwardness. He's the kind of teacher you wouldn't mind taking multiple times which I have. Great guy over all.

Took Interpersonal from him. Fun and funny-sometimes a bit inappropriate but good natured. Group project with low expectations. Just discuss within the class and you'll be fine. Tests were fairly simple.

John is very entertaining. Summer class is 4+ hours 2 nights a week and I did not miss 1 class. He really cares about his students. If you go to class you do not need the textbook. I am more than likely going to take more classes with this teacher. He is awesome!

I barely read the book, attended every class, payed attention in class and got a B in the class. The teacher is really funny. As long as you pay attention and do well on the group project, you should be fine. I recommend taking him.

BEST TEACHER EVER! very funny guy and teachers well. Uses lots of examples and makes sure you understand the topic of discussion. Attendance is mandatory. 3 easy tests multiple choice and one major group project. In the middle of taking the 6 wk summer class, and so far its easy. The first test is tmrw of the 2nd wk and he tells you and hints whats going to be on it. Just get out some notecards and your good! He helps ESL students with pronunciation and calls on shy ones to talk in class but not in a bad way. Take this with another easy class like Phil 115.

One of the best teachers ever. It would be the easiest class ever too but there's hardly any points to never show up and get an A. That said. It's very easy. You never know what's gonna happen in his class. He'll entertain you and interacts with the students. Super cool guy

He is an amazing professor! It's no surprise that just about everyone hates public speaking but he makes it easy. He gives great tips and tricks. Took it as an evening class and didn't regret a single night. Everyone gets nervous but talk with your class mates and ask questions, this will help you feel at ease when you present. At first I thought this guy was easy reading through the reviews. However, his tests are actually hard. Some of the questions are irrelevant and you have to go through the text and lecture notes to know what they are. His speeches are simple and fun, but beware, his tests are tricky.

I have to say one of my funnest classes. Lervold realy knows how to take you out of your comfort zone in a good way.He is very analytical and funny theres not one time I wanted to fall asleep in class. He has a few tests, they are pretty tricky so its best to read from the book. I would say take this class hes great!

He is the greatest among the great comm professors I ve ever known. Although he gets tired from the tight school schedules, he is always remain his sense of humor. His lecture is short but condensed and really easy for studying. Even though English is my second language, I felt no difficulty studying this class. I got an A.

I was terrified of taking speech class. Dr. Lervold made the class so fun! He has a way of making the class feel you are his favorite students. I felt challenged but loved every minute of it. 3 five minute speeches , 4 one minute speeches and two easy exams if you read the book.

Well he is a great teacher in the class room. He always gets people involved with his lectures. But his tests are very tricky and he never gives out study guides. Which for me makes the class harder because the test questions become mostly irrelevant. Also there is only three exams total in the semester.

The tests tricky but if u pay attention in class (which isn't hard bc he's funny), put in the time to study (read the chapter before class , & annotate) & make notes of things he repeats things several times in class then u will do just fine. Dr. Lervold is amazing!!!! I consider myself lucky to take his class. His class consists of 3 exams, 3 major speeches (4-5mins), and 4 minor speeches (1-min). Advice for the exams: The exams cover 2-3 chapters and if you READ the chapters and understand it, you'll do great! Minor speeches are on exam days and major speeches are fun.

I took interpersonal communication and public speaking with him.. worth it! I love his classes. He made me appreciate learning on a whole new level. The more you interact in his class the more enjoyable it is. He is very engaging and keeps the lectures enjoyable so you're not bored. Full of energy! Take as many classes you can with him!!

John Lervold is a hilarious teacher. His humor and mannerisms remind me that of Dane Cook, which reminds me, not everyone likes Dane Cook. He likes to pick on everyone, if you don't like it, tell him after class. But just keep in mind, if he picks on you, it means he likes you. Words can't even describe how glad I am that i took this class with him. He's the most amazing teacher because he teaches while making things fun and relating things to real life situations. Very easy class, very chill, sometimes funny, sometimes entertaining, and was never rude or mean. Textbook is used to read chapters for homework but I passed with a B and never bought the textbook (we go over what we're suppose to read from the previous night everyday in class and I just took notes in it).

He's really funny as well as a good teacher. He gives good feedback and no hw except reading chapter before class.

He's nice, an easy grader, lenient, and is fairly funny. Sometimes he calls on people in class to answer a question. The textbook is supposedly mandatory for your chapter reading, but you don't actually need it becauss he goes over the material the next day later on power point slides so you can take notes on it. Exams are somewhat difficult.

He's really understanding when it comes to students. He can be really sarcastic too so if you don't understand that type of humor, it can sound mean although it's all in good fun. He also likes to pick on people a lot to show examples for the things we learn so that's always fun. Lectures are easy to understand & exams are very doable.

Such a great prof. Took his 100 class and again for 110. He goes on tangents during lectures.. but they're usually entertaining anyways. Interacts a lot with students. Grades super easy. Minor speeches on exam days (super easy) and 3 major speeches (4/5 minutes each). Exams are relatively easy- take good lecture notes! A good classroom environment

Awesome professor! He is super hilarious with his stories and lecture. Be sure to read the textbook chapters before his lecture because you can catch up with everything in class by doing so. My first day of class I was getting ready to drop because he talks so much. However, he ended up being my favorite teacher. He is awesome, understanding, funny, and just overall the best! my sister and I are planning on taking another class with next semester.

Changed to online due to Covid so he makes the test less heavier. Must read the textbook, it's super helpful. He is funny and insprirational. Make clear instrution but mostly no one pay attention to him, he will remind many times. 3 exams and a group project, that's all. He loves interacting so don't be sit there and say nothing when he call you.

I was terrified to take this class but Professor Lervold was so kind and encouraging throughout the entire course. He made class easy and enjoyable. He does not overwhelm his students with busy work and only had us do 2 big speeches. As long as you try you will pass.

I am currently taking communications 100 and he is really an amazing professor. I have had 2 that are my favorites so far on this journey and he is one of them. Very kind, caring, and attentive to the students even with his busy schedule. I definitely recommend him for this class.

Very simple and straightforward class with a quiz every week. He was very kind and caring towards the class. Writing assignments are very easy as long as you make sure to follow every point of the prompt.

I loved this class. I know it is supposed to be a mandatory but easy class, but I enjoyed every discussion. The quizzes were easy and the assignments were very clear and graded accordingly. I honestly think this professor is one of the best ones, not because of the course but because of his very clear feedback and communication.

No homework! Only grades in the gradebook are exams, self-reflections, and a couple assignments. He's very attentive, caring, and chill! He did a lot of group exams for our class.

I took Lervold's class in my first semester of college. He has a required text, but I didn't buy it and was fine. I recommend looking for other professors' lectures on the chapters online to review before classes!! Participation makes him very happy. He's very kind and a great lecturer, just take good notes and you'll do great!

I took CMST100 over the summer with Dr. Lervold and it was fairly easy. There's a discussion, weekly quizzes, a midterm, two application assignments, and a final. As long as you read the textbook and do the assigned work it's an easy A.

Professor Lervold's COM100 class is a solid choice. The lectures are engaging, and staying on top of the readings pays off. unstuck AI was a game-changer for my exam prep. With consistent effort, this is an easy A.

CMST100 with Professor Lervold has been very enjoyable. You are only required to do weekly discussions and quizzes that are easy if you read the textbook. When contacting him, he responds in a timely and friendly manner.

This was literally the easiest class ever. Easy lectures, just taking notes. Group tests. You could use a textbook, but he's not too strict on it. He's funny and easygoing, you cannot fail this class. I took this class Winter/Spring 2025.
