John is the coolest teacher I've ever had. He is really funny and has a really bizzare life story. You can call him at home and he gets you out of your comfort zone so you can write papers you didn't even know you could. Kinda cute too.

It is still pretty early on in the course, but I think that John is so great! He is so much fun, and going to class is always something to look forward to. I actually get excited to write for his class. :)

I've never enjoyed a professor so much. He's funny, and extremely helpful. He makes it clear that he's there for you, all the while not making you feel stupid or embarassed. I really hope that I have the opportunity to take another one of his classes.

John's a pretty cool teacher. Not too strict on getting papers done on time...all you do is free write 95% of the time. I would definitely reccommend taking his course!

Negatives....mostly work at your own pace. I'm have no motivation. Postives.....prob the nicest and smartest teacher I had, ever. Knows tons of writing tips. Great class, end of story.

I took two SWS classes before John, and I recieved a B both times. With's style of making his students see the error in other portfolio papers he makes you a better writer on your own, without the help of others. And he is cool as hell...take it with John

DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO TAKE JOHNS CLASS! one of my favorite classes jsut to listen to him talk. very inspiring, very understanding and bend over upsiddown backwards to help you out. Ive never had a teacher that would go so out of his way for his students.

it's true....you don't know grade b4 the end of the semestr. i got a C+, which s**cks. but he's cool and a really good prof.....i'd say best one yet at GVSu for me.....

John makes writing fun. It's hard to get an A in any of the WRT 150 classes, but with John you will at least enjoy it. He is so willing to help and is very passionate about writing. Most importanly, he has a big heart and is worth getting to know.

I had John two years ago when I was a sophomore, and he's still my favorite teacher. Take him, even if you have to wait (like I did) a while to get into his class.

John is a great prof that tries to help in any way possible. If you go to class and write the three papers for the end you will pass the class. You determine 1/3 of your grade, john determines 1/3 of your grade and 3 people in your class determine the last 1/3 of your grade.

Most helpful and down to earth teacher ever!!!! He knows how to capture an audience. I have learned a lot about expressing myself in papers. You never have to turn your papers in before the portfolio group grades them, but you really should keep up with doing them, it will help alot later.

I'd only take Lestat for WRT 305, if you have to take the class. GVSU should drop the class--but Lestat made the nightmare fun.

lestat is intrested in his students lives outside of class. is very clear about what the class consists of and his expectations of you. if you get a bad grade, it's your fault or the panel's fault because he doesn't do the grading. take his class.

I LOVE this man. He's the best professor I have had at Grand Valley. He is extremely intelligent, and really encourages you to use your mind in a more creative way. Do not take any other writing professors.

John is the man!! relates to his students better than any other prof ive had, and makes writing fun and creative. he gives you an endless amount of tips and styles that will improve your papers. definitely take this class w/him, as well as wrt 150!!

as good as it gets here....if you have to take 305, get him....or even if you don't have to, take him anyway.

He is very clear with everything. He will flat out tell you how the papers are supposed to be for the portfolio. He is always there for help and hes a really nice guy. I would reccommend taking his class.

He's probably as good as it gets. He understands what it is like to be the student, and really wants to make the expierence as easy and fun as it can possibly be. Always very straight foward, and will help you no matter what time of the day (or night) it is via email.

John was my favorite teacher this semester. He is probably the most knowledgable source on ANYTHING. He is a big pop culture junkie and will talk to you about mostly anything. He does apprecieate provocative writing though, as someone else pointed out. He is by far the best writing teacher I've ever had, and my papers are there to prove it.

John has been my favorite professor yet and it will be hard to top him. I really enjoyed this class and he helped me become a better writer. He knows a great deal about writing and is very intelligent. I would highly recommend him to anyone taking this course.

This is a required, pain in the arse class, John is the pain-killer. You won't need to buy the expensive textbook, the infrequent "monologues" are as funny as he can make them, you get a TON of feedback on your papers, and you'll a student-focused, very intelligent prof. on your side. If it is at ALL possible, get John!!!!!!!!!!!

john is absolutely amazing. my favorite prof so far at gvsu. he is helpful, encouraging, and has a great sense of humor. he makes a required class interesting, as well as the boring lectures. he is very knowledgeable about writing, and is a great asset to your papers. he makes himself available to you 24/7. take him if you can-you won't regret it!!

John is by far the greatest professor I've had. He comes in with a smile and makes an otherwise awful class fun. He actually made me want to write instead of forcing it out. He willingly goes out of his way to help anybody for anything. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :)

This guy is awesome...he is real with you and he's the only professor to take for this class! He knows what he is talking about but doesn't make you do anything that you dont have to...no stupid stuff..

I love John! He is by far one of my favorite professors at GVSU. He doesn't waste your time with busy-work, and lets you know EXACTLY what to do in order to do well on your portfolio. He goes completly out of his way to help students and his comments are actually useful. He does keep track of attendence though, Only allowed 4 absences.

John is a God. I can't explain it. He knows everything there is to know about mastering a portfolio. His class is democratic and what he says is just "his opinion." In truth, they're probably correct. Do everything you can to get John for 150. He's just an awesome guy.

Great Teacher. If you dont like writing ... this professor will let you write and help you write about papers you actually enjoy writing about. Also tries to maximize your grade in the class. Most definitely one of the Best Profs at GVSU. Will work his ass off to help you. This professor is genuinely interested in the success of his students.

Honestly, the coolest guy you'll ever meet in the writing department...I just started and already adore the man. Great sense of humor, really helpful and overall amusing. He tries hard to be entertaining...however, keep a spare chapstick handy. It will make his day!

Probably my favorite professor at GVSU. Yeah, he does the whole "I'm just as hip as you guys," but it's not a front. He will be VERY helpful with feedback and allows you to work at your own pace, giving as much help as you need. Very good prof if you are looking for lots of genuine encouragement.

I thought I typed ratemyprof, but I must be on the wrong site--because it sounds like ratemypastor. john is great. writing sux, but take him and it'll only half-suck. this is time 2 for me....failed with some crap 150 teacher the first time. the only class i actually want to go to now.

Yes it's true, John is THE best prof @ GV. He's a very helpful guy, people say he tries hard to be "cool" but that's just who he is. He's an awesome person. Whether your a bad writter or an excellent, this is the prof to have. John knows his stuff, and sets all BS aside. He's just a great person who is great @ what he does!

My favorite teacher BY FAR, and I hate writing. No f-ing busy work, and if you don't like a paper, he'll make one up on the spot for you. You don't get grades until the end of the semester, which is weird . . . but whatever. Get in his class if you can.

John is AWESOME. You have to be a fairly laid back person to take his class... he tends to swear and what-not. But honestly, the best WRT 150 Prof you can have. He works with you a lot to develop your best papers. No busy work.
