Amazing teacher!!! he's sooo fun and always keeps your attention! we throw candy at the board, and it's extremly interactive. I knew the names of every kid in my class. i love him! and he's a hott young male teacher! ;)
Ciceronian in professorial exploits.
TAKE HIM!!!! he's soo funny, and the class is extremly interactive.. i knew everyone in my class and because good friends with most of them. We even threw candy at a board one time. Loved going to class every day. Plus, he's young so it makes going to his class soo much better ;)
Great Professor. He teaches really well and is actually interesting, unlike other professors.
Professor Lin truly cares about his students and took the time to work with me independently. I had an interview and was so nervous but Professor Lin taught me the skills necessary to impress the interviewers. Because of him, the interview went extremely well :)
Prof. Lin does a nice job of creating a family within the classroom. He elevates your comfort level and slowly but steadily raises his expectations (not that they are ever low). Attendance is necessary as is timeliness. Little textbook use. Class begins easy but it will become harder. I recommend Prof. Lin, you will enjoy the class. I had fun.
Amazing teacher. Stayed after late to help me get a better understanding on any material. Funny and knows how to break the ice in any situation. The best teacher I've ever had and is a great life coach as well.
Went to him for help with speech. He is an amazing person. very helpful. you can tell he loves what he does. Take him!
AMAZING life coach. You WILL LEARN! This man is perfect to start you on your college journey. He's young and somebody who you can really relate to (mentions pop songs, movies, etc). However, don't mistake great quality for it being really easy. 6 prepped speeches and a few mini-papers. You gotta show up to most of the classes.
This was a hard class but the lessons learned and the help that was recieved was great. There are A LOT of assigned speeches. He def critiques everything that you do, but in the end its only to help you do better. He never put anyones speeches down. And is always there if you need help.
Intellectual. Reassuring. Enthusiastic. This professor helped me overcome the biggest obstacle in my life...Speech. Today I stand a more complete man due to my ability to speak clearly. Originally, I took his class as a Core requirement. In a few years when I graduate I will remember this class as a transition point for my life.
I met Prof. Lee when I first went for English tutoring. I was terrible with grammar and sentence structure but he was always patient and provided me with thorough criticisms. A few days later when he saw me, he would ask, "Hey, how did that paper go?" He is someone who truly cares about his students.
Professor Lin is man who sincerely cares if his students are learning and growing as individuals. I highly recommend him to any student who wishes to improve as a public speaker.
One word:"Awesome." If you're nervous abt taking public speaking, take his class! Even if you're a good public speaker, he'll show you how to prepare speech like a boss. He gives us trainings (not assignments) that bring the whole class together. I never had a class that was so fun & knowledgeable. This was more than just a class. Best class ever!
His class is really unique. You'll get to know other students and grow as a class. He's always encouraging us to do better and if things come up, talk to him. He'll work with you. He always gives examples or sample speeches to make it easy for us to follow and to do well in class. Im glad I took his class. Mind-opening
I would definitely recommend taking this prof! He's extremely helpful&finds a way to make you comfortable w/public speaking. You'll have to do the work (6 speeches) but he guides you all the way. I hate public speaking but w/prof Lin's help I got through each&everyone of my speeches&became more confident&comfortable w/every speech!
Professor Lin is an awesome professor who inspires his students to aspire to greater heights of learning, to get over their fears of public speaking, and also, ensures that a required class is not just another boring requirement.
Hands down the greatest professor I have ever taken. He actually cares about his students and is always willing to help you and spend extra time with you. He makes class interesting and keeps you awake. He also seriously improves your public speaking ability and helps you get over your fear of public speaking. If you have to take speech, take him.
Amazing teacher. He really cares for his students and wants them to do well. Prof Lin has been the best professor I've ever met on St. John's. Would recommend his class to anyone.
Perfect teacher, take this class!
Professor Lin's class was definitely one of the best classes I had as an undergrad student. He is a overall great guy and I would take his class over again in a second. He actually cares about his students and made class interesting. Take him!
Awesome class had a lot of fun. Take this class!
Professor Lin is a great professor. He takes time to individually help his students and provides great instruction. My communication skills greatly improved from his class.
Professor Lin is a terrific speech professor. It is incredibly hard to get underclassmen to attend class or take an interest in certain required classes like speech, but Professor Lin has the magic formula. Class is both fun and informative. I've never seen so many students actually want to go to class. Everyone should take him.
Fun class, pretty easy, long as work is submitted, and certainly the lessons you gain from this course will have a long lasting impact on your college activity and career.
It was a real good class in ewhich i learned alot of things and got over my fear of public speaking. Not only that i gained alot friends and learned calming tecniques to help me focus during my speech.
Mr. Lin was a great professor, willing to work on helping me get over my fear of public speaking. I really enjoyed his class.
He's a good speech professor, makes class fun. If you have trouble with public speaking, just show em youre trying your best and he'll grade you well.
Prof. Lin is great. Really makes class fun and interesting and knows how to build confidence in his students.
Great class with relevance to everyday, normal living. He teaches speech in a way that truly captivates and improves the speaking abilities of students. You can really see, feel, and hear the difference in speech for those in his class! Those who start the semester shy and reserved end the semester as the chatter bugs of class. Literally.
Prof Lin was the best professor I've had at St. John's so far! He made me feel so comfortable giving speeches, and I was not the type of person to ever willingly give a speech before. He makes the class enjoyable, and pulls you out of your comfort zone in a good way, you're not uncomfortable, rather more comfortable with yourself. Take this class!
If you want to take a class that has an excellent professor, a class that you will learn a lot, and a class that is fun all in one; take this one! Professor Lin is the best professor I had at St Johns and his class made me a much better person He taught me to be more comfortable with not just public speaking but speaking in general! BEST CLASS EVER
Great Professor! Gives chances to improve and doesn't make you nervous to go up in front of the class to speak! The class gave me confidence for my other classes when I had to give a presentation . Definitely take him for public speaking!
Great teacher, helps you out a lot!
Prof. Lin is the man! I cannot praise him enough. His classes are extremely interesting, insightful and unique. He is a very understanding professor who goes above and beyond to make sure that his students are making great progress. Not only did I become a much better public speaker, but I had so much fun throughout! BEST COURSE HANDS DOWN!
Professor Lin inspired me to not only become a better public speaker, but also a better man. Through his untraditional teaching method and style, Professor Lin makes every class interesting than the last. He is a character in and outside of class worth learning from. I am blown away by his tact for teaching and learning, he's a "must take" prof.
Prof. Lin is one of my favorite professors! Extremely helpful and went out of his way to make sure I understood what we were doing in class. Definitely recommend taking him if you have the chance!
Greatest professor ever. Professor Lin is the man, his class is amazing. Before I took his class I was scared because public speaking freaks out everybody but when I took his class i began to like it. He makes you feel comfortable and keeps you calm. His class is so fun and helps you become a good, confident speaker which is essential in life.
Professor Lin is the MAN!!! Coolest guy ever, very innovative in his teaching method. You will enjoy his class for sure.
From the moment Professor Lin presented himself as a disguised student in the back of the classroom, I knew this man was an incredibly unique educator. His teaching methods are impressively philosophical, and his hands-on learning are recipes for success. Professor Lin is down to earth, and by far one of the best professors at St. John's.
Very helpful and clear. Really cares about his students and what he is doing.
Fun and exciting class. Cool and down to earth professor.
Great professor, this class was really fun and my public speaking has enhanced.
I was very shy at the beginning, but then since he makes this class so interesting, I become more and more comfortable with public speaking. Definitely recommend him!!!
He's a great professor! He is very clear with what he wants and pulls the potential out of you! I would recommend his class because he tries to make it fun and as least awkward as possible!
Enjoyed this class!Approx 4-6 short speeches that count as exams. Each class may consist of a short speech.May be difficult for shy people, but do not be discouraged. It is all in good fun!you get to know your classmates, teacher & most important, yourself. You learn. He loves to see your effort & progress.Lin cares about each student.NOTHING to fear!
Great class, about 6 speeches (with much in-class helpful prep) that count as exams. Really helps you break out of your comfort zone and establish friendships with your classmates. Also prepares you for job interviews/elevator pitches, along with resume writing. Service learning was fun as well.
I had an amazing time in this class! He only helped me with public speaking but he also helped me step out of my comfort zone. Recommend everyone to take speech with Professor Lin.
Awesome prof. Actually cares and wants to see you improve as a person and public speaker. About 6 speeches and gives examples on what to do and gives constructive criticism after each. I was shy in the beginning, but he makes it easy to open up and grow as a class. By far, the most fun I've had in a class.
I rated this prof a 4 in easiness instead of a 5 because the are strict outlines for speeches however, he is so awesome that he explains the work needed so in depth that the textbook is unneeded. I enjoyed commuting to this class weekly. Any questions are always answered for clarity and class opinions are always taken into account. must take!!
Professor Lin is a great teacher. Prior to taking Public Speaking I was intimidated but now I am confident enough to speak in front of others without anxiety. I recommend Professor Lin his class was fun!
Overall was a great teacher and made public speaking easy if you had fear of speaking in front of an audience. Great person and loved this class
Professor Lin is a professor who really cares about his students and is willing to do almost anything to help his class. He's a very hard worker and teaches us how to become powerful speakers. Professor Lin is a great professor.
Cool teacher who obviously loves what he does. As long as he knows that you're trying he'll give you a decent grade.
Amazing teacher. He really connects with the students and is an amazing person! I would definitely take him again.
Great guy with a great heart. Deeply cares for each student and pushes them to their potential with their public speaking skills. Teaches students as equals and therefore the class feels like real higher education
Professor Lin is the best professor I have ever taken! He is so passionate about what he does and it really shows in his lessons. He makes you feel comfortable about public speaking, and makes the class fun and enjoyable to really make you want to come to class.
He completely prepares you for each speech, he gives you his own example, and gives you helpful tips. He gives interesting twist that is always humorous!
Great class and even better professor! By far my most enjoyable class at St. John's. Helped me become a much better public speaker and would definitely recommend.
Professor Lin is very passionate about public speaking and ensuring that each student takes something from each speech. He pushes you, and always keeps class fun (litterally by playing games). I would highly recommend him!
Amazing and passionate professor who will work with you until you get it. Really makes you feel comfortable and helps you come out of your shell. His teaching method is innovative and extremely interesting, which allowed me to progress at my own pace. 10/10 Would take again.
Prof Lin works hard to get you involved in class and it shows. Class is fun. Interactive. No easy A. Worth the time and effort 100% though. I am not master of um, like, you know, those things...yeah, words! Regardless, if you want to become a better speaker this is the way to go. Anyone can enjoy and learn in this class with a little effort.
Professor Lin is one of St. John's finest. Truly a great Professor who shows interest in his students and subject. His is class is fun and really will help you to become a better speaker
He's very entertaining, informing, deliciously eloquent and easy on the eyes. There was one class where he put weights on his pack and started doing push ups in the middle of his speech <3333... oh yeah and I learned alot about public speaking..
Great professor and does a great job in keeping you wanting to come to class with the interest level.
Take his class if you can! Prof. Lin is the one of the best professor I have ever taken. He helps you a lot on building your own confidence and made the class always clear and interesting. I learned a lot from his class and enjoyed it. Definitely recommend!!
I didn't know what to expect before taking this class but I came to love it. Professor Lin is a great speaker who helps his students in every way possible. I definitely recommend taking this class. Did I mention that he does pushups with weight on his back meanwhile clapping?
Great Teacher very helpful with student who are having a hard time in the class. Very enjoyable class and had a lot of fun.
Great professor, and an overall great guy. Very willing to help and very understanding. Prior to taking his speech class i could never speak in front of people without getting sick to my stomach but through the exercises in his class i've been able to excel as a public speaker. By far the most useful class i've taken, with real world applications.
One of St. John's finest professors. He is an individual who helps you expand your strengths and polish your weaknesses while making class interactive and different from the typical boring lecture style that people are usually familiar with. Professor Lin is the way to go!
A really nice guy who wants to make learning fun and easy. He cares about this subject and tries to push students out of their comfort zones to be good public speakers. He gives helpful tricks that you will use for public speaking.
Being shy, I enjoyed getting to know all my fellow classmates. Speaking doesn't come easy to me, but he encouraged me to never give up. Prof. Lin helped us improve our writing as well.
Awesome class. We jumped right into it from the very beginning and I still use these skills to this very day. I was immediately comfortable and I feel very confident talking to people and even use it for my artistic endeavors. Truly wonderful.
Professor Lin is AWESOME.He is insightful, smart & knows how to engage students while being professional. He's invested in students & always willing to help. He is supportive, honest, a fair grader and holds students accountable. Professor Lin requires you to think and be the best version of yourself in a subject that is often underrated.
Prof. Lin is one of the best professors at this university. He genuinely cares for the students' progress through the class. Not only that, he makes a huge effort to get to know each individual for who they are. Definitely take this class.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Made me feel very comfortable speaking infront of the class. He engaged everyone in the class and made it fun. This is something I did not expect from a public speaking class at all. I would really recommend taking his class!
Oh man, out of 77 reviews one individual actually gave this man a negative review. Whoever that person is must've never went to class. This gentleman is, hands down, one of the greatest professors I've ever had. He genuinely cares about your performance in class as well as what you talk about. He will critique you, but that's his job.
Professor Lin is the most amazing professor I ever had at St. John's! If it wasn't for taking his class, I never would have been the confident speaker that I am now. He changed my life, and showed me that you can argue anything you want, it just depends on the words you choose, and your presentation of them. He is exceptional. I love him!!!!
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!!!! What he taught me will have an effect on my life forever. At first you may be a little nervous to speak in front of a class but he makes it as comfortable as possible for everyone. Its like the class becomes a family. GREAT PROFESSOR!!!
I had Prof. Lin for 2 classes the first was 1000c and the second was persuasion. In 1000c he was helpful and really helped me to improve my public speaking(even with my debilitating shyness). I figured he helped me so much the first time why not take another class? Nope! he spent the entire semester telling us how he was "persuading" his kitten...
He goes beyond what's in the syllabus, tackling not only public speaking problems, but life lessons as well. He challenges students to do their best in and out of the classroom. Miss this class, and you'll miss a chance to learn how to STAY AT YOUR PRIME in everything you do. Speaking skills: enhanced. Goals in life: recognized. Take this class
Very Nice professors. I used to have huge trouble on public speaking, but Dr Lin gave us a lot of help and made our class easy and interesting. Highly recommended.
Best Professor Ever! Always helps his students. Tells interesting stories.
He was really clear and precise. He kept all of his lessons fun and interesting. The only tough part was the interview lessons but everything you are taught in his class, is necessary.
Really great professor. Down to earth and out of all my classes I've taken, in my opinion this is the only one thats truly helped me out in my life now and
John is an immaculate professor who transforms the classroom into a stage of empowerment for his students. Never have I felt closer to a group of classmates, and never have I felt more eager to speak in front of a room full of people. John turns that commonplace phobia into a strength in a way very few people can. Truly gifted at his craft.
Professor John Lin is an incredible man, and an inspiring educator. He is the best in his department, and one of the best professors I have encountered at St. John’s University. I highly recommended Mr. Lin to anyone who is truly dedicated to the goal of becoming a better public speaker while in college. This man will change your life!
Professor Lin is incredibly passionate in what he does and how he teaches; he really allows himself to see the potential and ability that each student has to deliver a successful speech. He makes public speaking an art and not some technical thing that you abide to the rules with. A very funny professor who adds a lot of vivacity to class.
Professor Lin was the best professor I had in QCC. I took his class with my boyfriend, when we were freshman's. The class was mondays and fridays, it was very fun and interesting, he helped me a lot with my speech and he taught me how to speak loud and clear on a presentation. Amazing professor and amazing class.
Prof. Lin was an amazing teacher. Not only was he inspiring, but he knew how to keep all of his students entertained. Each speech topic was broad so we were able to relate it to ourselves and make it our own. Lin was and still is my favorite professor at St. John's. Don't go in to class thinking it's going to be an easy "A". Promise you...it's not.
Quite a fun class, was also fairly demanding.A good bonding experience for my freshman class, helped me improve my organizational writing skills because of the outlines required. My only complaints were that I bought the textbook:barely used it, in my class he could've used some more tact sometimes in his critique of one particular guy in our class.
Professor Lin is a modest and dedicated teacher. He was always open to answering any questions that I had.He provided me with knowledge that will be beneficial to me outside of the classroom. He will work with you and provide effective criticism to elevate your game. Lastly, he always presents himself as a professional at all times.
Prof. Lin was my first college professor. He is extremely helpful with such a nice personality. He strives to make his students succeed. You can always go to him for help in regards to matters both inside and outside the classroom. He is very approachable, friendly and professional. He made me feel comfortable speaking to an audience. MUST TAKE!!
great professor, helped when i needed it. funny, cool well as long as you do the work. great professor overall, would take him all over again if i could!!!
this class was the best!! he taught me how not to be nervous and how not to say uh or um when im talking. it was a great experience!!
John is the man! Definitely take this class! You'll learn a bunch and have a blast in the process. Def a can't miss!
You cant go wrong with this professor. A very nice person and always helpful. He is the best!! One of my favorite professors!!
Great class with a great professor. Made the class very enjoyable and definitely improved my public speaking skills.
Professor Lin is a great teacher, who is always coming up with cool ways to make the class interesting, lively, and fun. He's always really enthusiastic about the class work and really wants to see students succeed. He's very approachable, so feel free to talk to him if you see him around campus.
One of the best professor I have ever had. He makes us want to go to speech class. He is stern when necessary. But a very helpful professor and at the end of the class ones level of confidence in public speaking will improve for sure
Awesome professor! Very easy going and funny. Makes the class very comfortable and inviting. Quiz's and speeches are relatively easy, just how up to class! Textbook was barely used but overall funny guy and keeps the class really engaged
Very cool teacher, and gives you everything you need to better yourself. There is always room for improvement and he takes the time to find out how to do it.
This class was a very fun experience and I'm happy that I was able to have Professor Lin as my instructor. I would recommend him any day.
Great teacher learned a lot from his class. Highly recommend to take this class.
This professor really cares about his students. He has pulled my aside after class to ask if everything was okay when he noticed I seemed to be having a rough week. His classes are different and a refreshing change of pace from lectures!
He is really an awesome teacher. He cares about his students and really works with you. Definitely one of the best professors I've ever had!
Even though you might be one of those people who hates public speaking;trust me you"ll love this class. The professor truly makes all the difference. He has a lot of fun activities that will make you feel more comfortable towards public speaking. Professor Lin is by far the best professor I've ever had. He diligently cares about all his students.
Probably the best professor I have taken during my undergrad career! Totally engaged with students, makes everything simple and loves to teach! I would take him for every class if I could.
Def an awesome professor! I would take him for everything if I could! I never dreaded going into class. It was so interactive to he point where you wished you had him more often. He's always there to help with anything you need from anything from A to Z.
Let me just keep it nice and short...Take his classes! His classes are fun, challenging, engaging!
Great class. Lin was really passionate about his class and his students. One of the few professors I know who actively reached out to his students and showed interest in their success.
This is a great class to take with Mr. Lin he is very fun and exciting classes where always fun and I came out of the class not being scared to speak in public. I really encourage you to take this class with. Mr. Lin.
Professor Lin was my Favorite professor in college. He Was a Great professor he made every topic he taught about interesting! He always was willing to help or ask any questions you had! He is Awesome and anyone who has him as a Professor will enjoy the class and see all his great qualities like I did!
Professor Lin is an amazing professor. He made a speech class not as terrible as you would expect it to be. He created our class into a supportive environment where we could develop communication skills while being aware of our body language. His class was even- dare I say- fun.
Professor Lin is a very passionate and intelligent professor. He really cares about all his students, therefore he makes sure that you improve. Professor Lin is the man! Definitely take his take his class!
Professor Lin was one of the most inspirational teachers I ever had. He really helped me become a better public speaker to the point where I actually enjoy speaking in front of large groups of people now. I had him for Public Speaking three years ago and he still checks in with me sometimes to see how I'm doing. Highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Lin is by far one of my favorite professors out of my 3 years at St.John's. He is extremely helpful when it comes to his assignments, and he'll try to get you the highest grade possible, as long as you show that you are trying. Don't hesitate to take his class, cause I promise you won't regret it :)
Best public speaking teacher ever! Enjoyed every min of class, never once was i bored. Simple yet rewarding i would recommend anyone to take this class
so helpful and great personality. Also very intelligent !
One of the coolest teachers ive ever had, super helpful in class and totally different than anyone ive ever had
The class is structured where there is a clear understanding of what has to be achieved, yet free form where one can truly utilize their creative juices to max potential. Professor Lin serves as professor as well as mentor and friend. He has created a class that is truly one of the most enjoyable ones I've had the pleasure of participating in.
Best teacher at St. John's , no question about it!
OMG I have no words to describe Professor Lin. He is of the BEST prof. I have ever had. Seriously though If I had a chance I would take his class again. Missing out on this prof. is like missing out on a life time :)
Awesome professor !! Clear to the point and very very helpful!!
Professor Lin is awesome and I wish I can go back in time and take his class again!!!
He is one of my favorite professors of all time. I had a great experience in his class. He has taught me lots but most of all he makes the class fun. He is very helpful and understanding. Best professor i ever had! Always enjoyed class and never wanted to miss a day! Had a ton of fun and made some great friends which made class even better! U guys wont regret him. Hes educational yet super hip. Trust me guys!!
he is a very good prof
As a student who did not feel comfortable with public speaking, taking Professor Lin was the greatest blessing. He lets everyone get to know each other first and does a great job of easing into the speeches. Lin is very encouraging, fun,& helpful. He turned my worst nightmare of public speaking into my favorite class to attend. I highly recommend!
I was not looking forward to this for a few obvious reasons, but Professor Lin made it very enjoyable. The class wasn't unbearably hard, though he still challenged us in a good way. I learned a lot more than expected.
Great professor. Do the work, show up and take his advice and you'll not only get an A but you'll come out of the class having learned a lot.
Excellent professor. Enjoyed his course and learned alot. He made it an interesting and fun learning environment. He allowed us to be creative.
Going in to Professor Lin's Public speaking class I had a fear of speaking or performing in front of others As the semester went on my fear started going away until the final speech when I stood in front of my classmates completely fearless I had a great experiance in that class that could not have been better with anyone else as the professor
Highly recommended!
Professor Lin is a very caring and helpful teacher. He truly gives his all within the classroom, providing clarity, understanding, and useful tools for communication. It was a joy to attend class knowing there was comfort and confidence to support me through my struggles. After course completion, Lin is still willing and happy to help his students.
Professor Lin was one of my favorite professors because he made class interesting and fun. He made sure that everyone was involved and particpating in class which makes for a better class enviornment. I would def recommend Profesor Lin for any public speaking class!
Great professor very helpful very friendly. One of the best on campus.
My favorite teacher! He gets to know you as a person and really wants to see every one of us succeed. I've always hated public speaking, but Professor Lin created an environment that allowed us all to become comfortable. He kept us all interested. As long as you push yourself and do all the assignments you will definitely do well!
Professor Lin is one of the best professors at st johns, he is always interesting and entertaining.
The environment in Professor Lin's class was so warm and friendly that I actually looked forward to going to class and making speeches. He is very helpful and makes you want to speak.
Professor Lin has been one of my favorite professors thus far. Not one student can say they didnt leave his class with a memorable experience as well as improved skills in public speaking. Many of us were nervous about speaking publically, but his lessons/activities made us feel comfortable and teaches us so much that will help us in our futures.
Class participation makes up the bulk of the grade and should offset low scores on assignments. At times his teaching style comes off as a little unorthodox but he is willing to listen to suggestions and change class procedure accordingly.
Professor Lin creates a well rounded environment for his students to be comfortable to speak in front of people you barely know. He works with students and is a very fair. You definitely will have a few laughs in his class and you receive the grade you deserve.
Without a doubt one of the best class I've had while in college.Professor Lin does an amazing job of mixing fun with hard work.Basically if you do your work and put effort into the class there is no way you will fail and if you ever need help he literally will go above and beyond to help you out.Take this class it's worth it and you'll learn a lot
Professor Lin is hands down the best professor that I have ever taken in college. He makes class interesting and makes a difficult topic easy to understand. If I could take his class more than once I would! Professor Lin is one of those rare professors that are actually concerned with the class's well-being of the class and how he can improve.
Prof. Lin is definitely one of the best teachers St. John's has to offer. He really teaches you a lot that will benefit students outside of class.
It is easy to do well in his class. Just pay attention and do the work he assigns. There is no reason why you wouldn't want to do his projects and assignments because he makes them very interesting and fun. In his class you will improve with speaking skills and confidence.
He is the coolest Prof I had ever met!!! I loved the way He reached, we had so much fun in the class, as long as you participate in class, there is an easy A!!!!!! So 100% recommended!
100% recommended!! He is a funny and cool professor. Do home works and participate in class you will get an easy A!!! + don't worry if u suck in speech... as long as u really try, not a problem to get an A!
Professor Lin is an excellent speech professor! His class was nothing like I expected it to be. His teaching style is unconventional and I loved it! He's a professor that deeply cares about his students and tries different approaches to his teaching to assure that he's getting through to his students. I always looked forward to Tues/Thurs!
This class was one of the most exciting and helpful classes I've taken so far. Professor Lin was able to transform the shyest of us into bold and articulate speakers by the end of the semester. He cares about his students' success and wants to see us always putting out our very best. Be respectful, show a real effort, and be punctual to his class!
He is truly a great professor. Every class he was on time, he made sure to challenge you and is a very reliable and is very entertaining and fair person. I enjoyed his class thoroughly and what you learn in his class you take it into the real world and keep with you.
I would not recommend any other public speaking professor but Professor Lin. The class is so fun and not awkward at all as most public speaking is. I twerked on his desk and wrote a speech about your boyfriend cheating on you. You can really express how your feeling that day in his class and it's awesome !!
He really knows what he is doing and does it extremely well. He knows how to push his students to bring the best out of them. He teaches in a manner that allows the student to grow. Overall he is an amazing professor.
This was the best class ever a St. John's. deffinately take him when you go. It was alot of fun. He is the man and he is really fun. He gave me an A. The class was very interesting and taught me so much about speech and how to make myself better
This class was one of the most useful courses I have ever taken, Professor Lin teaches in a way that ties the real world into the classroom and I am very satisfied with the content and structure of the course.
Prof. Lin uses really unique techniques to bring everyone out of their shell and makes the classroom environment really inviting. It made me 10x more comfortable speaking in front of people and I now notice the errors that other people make while speaking to others. Really enjoyed this class.
I took Him for a whole year and I really enjoyed taking his class. I learned a lot.
This teacher is amazing and really helped me improve my speech.
My favorite part of Professor Lin's class was that not only did he teach material and skills that helped us pass and get a good grade, they were lessons such as having confidence and practicing interviews that we will use outside of that 20x20 classroom. He is interactive with students rather than lecture and makes the class fun.
Very good professor, you have to work for your grade but he helps you the whole way and as long as you do the speeches you will do well. He makes the class fun the whole time, always laughing.
One of the most rewarding classes to be in, by far. There is rarely a dull moment in the class, either.
Prof. Lin was by far the best teacher I have had. He uses every minute he has in the class room, and surprisingly, every minute is fun. His words are encouraging, and his strategies to help you become the best you can be is excellent! He really makes you open up and feel comfortable with your public speaking abilities. A must have professor!
I was dreading taking this class but Professor Lin made it enjoyable. His lessons made the students apply public speaking to everyday life, not just the course. His class helped me grow as a student and person.
Prof Lin is one of St. John's finest. A guiding voice to the incoming freshmen and a friend to those nearing the end. Always willing to lend a hand or take time out to get to know his students, he has all the characteristics of the ideal professor. Providing real world challenges was the highlight of my experience preparing me for the real world.
By far one of the most interesting and useful classes I have ever taken at St. John's. Professor Lin pushes his students to reach their full potential and he never gives up on anyone. Best professor ever!
Best professor & course I've ever taken at St. John's University. Yes it is challenging at first to deliver speeches in front of people you don't know. However, Professor Lin creates an environment where the class becomes almost a family-like atmosphere, so you don't need to fear public speaking.
Professor Lin is my favorite professor. He actually cares about his students and makes every class interesting. I would recommend everyone to take him.
Public Speaking wasn't something I was very good at but Professor Lin helped me a lot. His class really helped me become more confident in myself. He also really cares about all of his students and you can tell he takes it very serious. This became my favorite class I took that semester.
Great professor and great guy. Genuinely cares about the future of his students both in his class and out. Would recommend to anyone to take any of his courses.
Professor Lin was an outstanding teacher. There was a mood of comfort and happiness in the classroom. I looked forward to attending each class. We never had a boring class.
Great Professor. Really cares about his students and their improvement and is always via email or in person. Highly recommended. Improved my speaking skills tremendously.
This class is one of the most useful classes you will ever take at St.Johns. Professor Lin is an outstanding professor and makes everyone to feel comfortable public speaking. The class was never boring. Professor Lin gets to know all his students on a personal level. Take this class it is the best decision you will make at St.Johns!
This was a very helpful class. Professor Lin is very helpful and you will definitely enjoy this class.
This class was very helpful. Professor Lin cares about his students and there was not one boring class.
I took this class the final semester of my senior yr. for the very fact that I hated public speaking. I could honestly say that Prof. Lin helped to change that opinion quickly. There were 26 class days, and every one of them was a true learning experience. He is absolutely one of the best professors I've had in all four years attending St. John's.
Great class that helped me develop as a thinker and a speaker! I was a little skeptical about taking another speech course, but decided to do it, and I'm not regretful I did. We did a lot of cool projects, that again, helped me develop as a think Thanks again Professor Lin!
I was dreading taking speech but professor Lin made the class enjoyable and a lot of fun! He's a great professor who really cares about helping students and makes sure to create a comfortable environment. Speech 1000c was a class to remember and I definitely recommend professor Lin !!
fun class, broke me out of my shell
Professor Lin is a great person. You can tell that he really cares about his students. I was absolutely terrified of public speaking but this class helped me overcome that. There are 6 speeches you have to do. If you do all the work for the speeches and make an effort, you'll do well. I'm still not a wonderful public speaker, but I got an A.
His class help me a lot, he is really good professor . He is funny, I really enjoyed his class. He also teach at QCC
Professor Lin is hands down, one of the best professors I have had to this day. He interacts with his students as their are his peers, not just a bunch of kids that he is teaching. He is unlike any other professor you will ever have; I highly recommend him to every student out there.
By far the best teacher I've had, at any level. He single handedly revived my will to graduate. I implore you to take professor Lin if you have the opportunity, you won't regret it!
Probably the most fun I've ever had in any class. There's a lot of interaction that goes on within the classroom, so be prepared for that. This class truly enhances your speaking abilities and it proved to be very effective. There are several short papers and assignments you have to do plus 6 in-class speeches. The class was a great experience.
He's kind of obnoxious as a human and has a high sense of his class's worth.
I took this guys class my freshman year and didn't think he was terrible, but since then he's gotten worse. He scams people into buying hoodies with a fake program he is starting, and has convinced students it is mandatory. He volunteers students to have parties at their houses, and is just a ridiculous person. I'm surprised he still has a job.
If you could make yourself look like an idiot in front of the class, you'll do well. The class is essentially a comedy club. I could say with confidence that my speaking has become noticeably worse after the class ended. If you're okay with acting like an imbecile in front of the class for an A, then this is the class for you.
Great professor. Really helps you to learn how to speak well. After taking his class I feel confident enough to talk to anyone at any time or place. Learned a lot of interesting things. Funny guy. Overall great professor
Awesome dude with a class that will change your life. Recommend this to anyone who like breathing
Professor Lin is a great professor and a great guy. He really cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Professor Lin's class was by far the most interesting class that I have ever been in.
My public speaking skills improved tremendously throughout the semester and I'm glad I took this class. Professor Lin made the class fun and exciting, which made the challenges of the class easier to embrace
This class helped me come out of my comfort zone. This class was also inspirational by the way Profesor Lin stressed the values of public speaking. Me and my fellow classmates became a close group and we all worked together throughout the semester to help each other succeed. This would not have been attainable without the support from Professor Lin
Professor Lin helped me overcome many challenges both inside and outside the classroom. Even when I gave up on myself, he never gave up on me. I was never a great public speaking, and I still am not amazing. But I have all of the tools at my disposal to improve myself and prepare for the future ahead of me.
Really good prof. He helps so much. Plus gets me out of my comfort zone which awesome i suggest this prof. if you are able to choose who to get for speech.
He really makes the class fun and eases the transition of everyone from being afraid of speaking to being more confident! He's a very laid back guy and has helped everyone open up and be better speakers.
Professor Lin is the absolute best. I've never taken a better class in all my years of schooling.
The absolute best class I've taken in college. People on here saying "I hate public speaking" or "He makes you look like an idiot in front of the class" need to grow up and get over the childish fear of public speaking and realize how lucky they are to take class with a man like Professor Lin.
Lin is a matador, and you are the bull trying to hit the red cloth. He's a pain in the ass. He will challenge everything you know about yourself and point out all of your mistakes. If you have no experience in this subject or have had plenty of opportunities to be in public speaking before, do yourself a favor. Take this course.
Take this class and John D. Lin will become your life coach. You are put under a microscope and all your flaws will be pointed out. This class is not about public speaking, but about discovering who you are and want to become. Do not expect an A in this class, the grade will get you nowhere, but the lessons, they'll last a lifetime.
Chose this class bc of the good rating, but it's honestly one of the hardest classes in my undergrad career. Professor Lin makes you pay attention to every single little detail and grades harshly, but it really teaches you to be meticulous. He will break you down and rebuild you, but it'll be worth it. Don't be afraid to act silly and let go.
Professor Lin makes his class very difficult to do well in. Harsh grader with somewhat unrealistic expectations. Made us by a $30 workbook he wrote himself which was filled with spelling and grammatical errors. Doesn't always make deadlines clear. Also is very willing to call students out and embarrass them. Save yourself and don't take his class
Save yourself and choose another professor. This was my worst class due to the teachers personality and unrealistic exceptions. He is hard to please and is very rude. After one of the speeches he told me I was a disappointment to my parents and going to have an unsuccessful future... highly unrecommended teacher.
GREAT...
Lateness for 3 times 1 absence Feel uncomfortable to speak in front of class? You fail. Have to buy the book him write
If you're looking for an easy A, this is NOT the class. You definitely have to earn your grade. Speech requirements are given in specific details so you have to make sure you follow EXACT directions. If not he will probably give you a zero. Not a lot of workload, but make sure you complete any assignment he does give because he is a harsh grader.
This class is for you if you are ok with large amounts of criticism, demeaning remarks, and being bugged by the professor during all hours of the day through messaging. The speeches are performances and your speaking ability holds no weight. Oh if you dont mind for one class showing up in a full suit for a real interview then this is for you. GL!
He gives a ridiculous amount of work for no apparent reason. He doesn't even bother to really look at it or check it. Just gives you a check if he sees a sufficient amount of words written. Does not believe in extra credit but insists that you must do extra work. Extremely average at best even when claiming that he is extraordinary.
PLEASE AVOID! I can't stress how insane this class is. Hard work is one thing but pointless unclear assignments, 10 pages emails rambling about nothing with homework assignments embedded if you read between the lines. I wish I could better express how insane this is class is. You have to see it to believe it.
Professor Lin is an extremely likable individual and although his methods can be a bit unorthodox, there is no doubt that he is a master of speech. When I began my speech journey, I was a bit timid and anxious about speaking in front of people, not very confident in my speaking abilities and over the course of my semester I improved immensely. TAKE
Not your traditional speech class, but youll definitely improve and create relationships with your classmates. Not too much work- 6 speeches, a workbook to fill out, 5 300 word papers, and some opportunities for extra credit. Take this professor if you truly want to achieve a better speaking ability. His tactics may seem strange but they work.
Professor Lin is one of the best professor's I have ever taken. I no longer have a terrible fear of public speaking. This is a class unlike any other I have ever taken, and I have yet to experience anything else like. This class has helped me with numerous aspects of life, including nailing an interview for my career. Take this class.
John D. Lin is one of the coolest professors youre gonna encounter. Hes not like those professors that just sit there and read off lecture slides and give you papers to get an A. There will be some stressfull moments becuase yould be new to public speaking, but it teaches you some dope life lessons. DaReDeViLs speak at their prime
Lin's Speech class truly is challenging, but its in the challenge where you'd find yourself grow. In a competitive Pharmacy program, Lin creates an oasis of communication and community between you and your classmates that will never be seen again in your 6 years at St. John's. Lin isn't afraid to take time out of his own personal life to help you.
One of the best professors I have had so far at St. John's. The class was difficult, but it helps you develop as a person and a speaker. I gained confidence and learned more about myself. This class not only impacts your speaking, but was were I made my first friends and it is all thanks to John D. Lin! Go the extra effort, it pays off.
I was never confident at public speaking. Professor Lin inspired me to correct that weakness of mine from the start of this course. At first, I thought he was too critical. This seemed counterintuitive but I came to see that was the only way we, as a class, would improve as both speakers and people. Like the saying goes, "Pressure builds diamonds."
Inspirational, caring, and genuine are three words that describe Professor John D. Lin. Professor Lin primarily cares about the growth of his students. I have never met such an amazing person and Professor. He will bless you with the ability to speak better than ever before
Not like other RCT professors. Doesnt give out easy As but rather makes you work for them. He understands that what you learn in this class is far more important than what grade you recieve. By far the class that relates to the real world the most.
Professor Lin's class will give you strong communication skills that will stick with you, even after college. Do the work, and you'll definitely land an A. Beyond that, this course has helped me and my others classmates in: landing competitive internships, class presentations, and confidence building. He looks out for you and wants you to succeed!
Professor Lin is the man. Was very nervous about speaking in public, now I can speak anywhere to anybody Makes you work for your grade. If you do the assigned work and assignments, you will be well prepared and will receive a great grade. I definitely recommend taking Lin. All in all hes a great guy
Professor Lin is by far the best teacher/mentor I have had the pleasure of learning from. The immense amount of growth you experience in just one short semester is well worth the expectations he sets for the class. Professor Lin's lifestyle is public speaking. My advice is to utilize his brain, because it will be to your benefit, so TAKE HIS CLASS!
Great professor ... helps you moving forward into your future and always a helping hand outside of school
Taking this speech class was one of the best decisions Ive ever made. I had the opportunity to not only become a better speaker, but also a better person. I was also able to participate in other classes and practice my newfound speech skills. I highly recommend this class to anyone who is looking to get over their fear of public speaking.
Best professor in the whole school.
He's passionate but his curriculum isn't relevant to a pharmacy class when that's what he's supposed to be teaching. and he can be petty sometimes.
I heard great things about Prof Lin, so I was hopeful last semester, but was disappointed & frustrated. He cared about us becoming better speakers, but he was more concerned with our self esteem than the class. He was very disorganized and did not communicate well. 4/6 speeches were pushed to the last 4 weeks b/c he didn't plan well. DON'T TAKE HIM
I can understand why some students may not like him since he forces students out of their comfort zones, however you have to be willing to put in effort and try to engage in class a lot as well as think outside of the box and be creative. It's not an easy A so if you're lazy don't take this class. He's also pretty caring.
The worst class I've ever taken in my life. DO NOT TAKE!! I've never regretted taking a class my entire life. Was cocky and rude and complained about what was written on my rate professor. Made my life so difficult. Was harder than my organic chem class. Was terribly organized and I had to do the most work in my entire life. Not worth it!!!!!!!
John D Lin is real and you can hear his devil's trill from the hill. 6 presentations and some easy essays in this class. CAUTION! Those speeches are not easy and you won't pass if you don't take it seriously. Take him if you want to step out of your comfort zone. Drop it? You will miss out your best life memory. Yo! Be the unicorn in his class!
Rarely do you walk into a required class thinking you would be friends with everyone but that's exactly what happens. Lin ensures we all have opportunities to practice speaking and listening throughout the class. He teaches to ensure every word, gesture, and second counts. I Loved my speech fam and learned to not take speech for granted. FUN times!
Took away my lifelong hesitation and insecurity to speak and replaced it with pure confidence. I never knew what to expect except that I could do something to challenge my ability and make my class think and laugh on the spot. I really never been more proud of myself for facing my fear and taking this rollercoaster ride.
Prof. Lin really cares about his students learning.
Prof. Lin brought his all to every class and was a great professor. Will def try to take him again
Id compare this class to a roller coaster in that the fear was the worst. The ride itself: I unlocked my potential and found ways in which I could improve myself. I overcame my anxiety and I know I wouldnt be the person I am today without Professor Lins guidance. Appreciate the ride while it lasts; its quick but the lessons will last forever.
I learned more in this class than any other during my studies. I always struggled with my confidence. Professor Lin noticed this right off the bat and he worked with me to improve it, when he didnt have to. He WANTS his students to succeed and helps them find their potential. Grades will come and go. Life lessons last. Thank you, Professor Lin.
I got an A on all of my other classes minus his. He says himself that he doesn't care about RateMyProf. He wants you to give him 100000% of your effort into his class which is understandable. However, he only gives like 70% because he is extremely disorganized. Had to rely on a student to contact other students regarding assignments. Died on final.
Never again! Never again will I be nervous participating in class or talking at work or partying! I rely a lot less on others opinions of me now to feel good. Lin and class at first seems random but it's really well thought out. Results show.I'm working for my own future now. I'm different and I'm happier with Myself.
I was nervous to take this class sin the beginning but it was the best decision ever made. Gets you out of your comfort zone and makes you a better public speaker. Participate, take initiative, do well on speeches youll definitely pass
Absolutely the best professor. Participation is a must with 6 speeches and 1 final interview to pass the class. Class is not heavy lecture but participation heavy. He definitely makes you go out of your comfort zone but its worth it to see the improvements made by the end of the semester. Take him and you wont regret it.
I took John D Lins speech class freshman year, and Im still trying to wrap my mind around it. One of the profs I will never forget. One of a kind man. I definitely improved in public speaking through the class; I definitely had to work for it. I got frustrated, but it was worth it. Unorthodox and unforgettable. The whitecowboy hat & Russian EDM.
(ASYN) Gives way too much hw & expects everyone to be good at speaking on the spot. Extremely disorganized and not clear at all. Pretty weird guy. He's nice and caring, but his abundance of work made me hate the class. Threw a bunch of work at us on finals week and called it our "final". Doesn't take into consideration the work from other classes.
Worst class I ever took by far
It was nice to learn about classmates through discussion board participation. Class was asynchronous, we never met at a time, but it still felt like it was personable. I got better at overcoming being camera shy and trying to sound perfect.
Prof. Lin's class was not easy, but it was one of the few classes i've taken that i can confidently say will help me outside of school. He was extremely caring and helpful. Speech outlines were clear and concise.
Def would NOT take this professor again. He gave lots of assignments and did give us a good amount of time, but even then was not considerate of our other class work. YA"LL BETTER TAKE A PLANE AND FLY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Lin made you work too hard for a core class. He also graded horribly, he would pin point every little thing and take points off. Honestly compared to his reviews his class was nothing like that. For a public speaking class, he was just not fair enough.
Prof Lin is great to take RCT with, and I feel as though the workload is doable, especially considering it's an async public speaking class. He's super friendly and just encourages you to do your best. Speeches can get a bit tedious if you procrastinate, but it's usually just a weekly assignment. Extra cred available and his videos will encourage u
ASYCN speech. So many short videos!!! He assigned about 30 throughout the semester. Very extra!! Makes you listen to his podcasts and Youtube videos. Have to create Youtube videos for the assignments, due weekly. His feedback is VAUGE and different for each student.
Assigns ALOT of work for an asynchronous class. Also assigns lots of work during finals week when there are other classes to worry about. Workload is manageable, at first, but progressively increases from filming 30 second to 8 minute videos. Definitely not recommend if you're looking for an easy A, alot of work for a core class.
Time management is key. He gives assignments that requires effort but plenty of time for you to complete it. Hes a pretty chill guy, will answer emails. During the final he spilt it into two sections so theres time to research and record your topic. His assignments have to be done in a specific way or he will take points off.
Professor Lin was a good professor, is straightforward with assignments and grading was fair. Stay on top of your work and manage your time wisely. He comments on your assignments with what you need to work on so it is not hard to get full credit on them. Extremely friendly in emails as well
Had him for my first semester of college as a really nervous freshman that hated deep crowds/ heavy social contact. This class literally forced to put my head down and get better at learning how to develop some confidence within myself. That might have sounded a bit corny, but in reality this class was the reason why I now love hearing people talk.
Is a tough grader for a core class.Grades the littlest thing such as background noise, mic quality, enthusiasm, it's ridiculous! His videos arent even clear but expects you to make yours the best. I emailed him about it once for taking off points for the littlest sound and all he said was “ok”. He doesn't care since eveything is online.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS(Ethics of Engagement)! Although he is funny and nice, he is an extremely tough grader. For example, journals that are 25% of your grade are graded out of 3, which makes it very easy to receive a low grade, especially with him being very nit-picky. He also assigns an absurd amount of work for it being a pretty easy course.
I don't advise taking this professor. Everything is online, and he makes the assignments so hard. All the assignments are out of 2 or 3, so if you get a point or two off, your grade drops a lot. He takes points off on the irrelevant things, like camera level and audio, not even your speech criteria. Save yourself and take another professor.
Do not take Ethics Of Engagement with this professor, he is a very hard grader with the journals and the papers you have throughout the semester. You have pop quizzes on the readings and if you get the answer wrong he calls you out without saying your name and makes faces. If you want to pass you this course you have to participate constantly!
Wouldn't take him for speech. Unclear grading criteria, expects you to watch 3 1 hour lectures for a online class which have the answers for the quiz, his feedback is unclear and is a extremely tough grader and does not care about your environment in regards to video quality even though it may be impossible to meet requirements.
Got interviews and job offers for part-time work as a sophomore with his tips. Not an easy online class where you spill out words into the camera. Take it for real and results come. Can be long lectures, but can 1.5x time them and refer back anytime. Different, but in a good way. Care and follow instructions.
Took this class as an asynchronous thinking it would be easy. WRONG. HE IS THE WORST AND TOUGHEST GRADER YOU WILL EVER MEET. One assignment a week but very time consuming and tricky assignments. Along with every assignment you must respond to numerous classmates. Do not take him
