I think Prof. Logan is one of the best professors ever!
Really great teacher, makes everything really clear, but he's such a dork!!
has fun with teaching, smiles all the time, good class
He's a very good teacher though the subject matter is really hard.
Giggles WAY too much for a class that early, watch the lectures
Like the guy, but he giggles too much and uses more detail that needed.49.201
Extremely approachable, friendly, helpful teacher, and also a lot of fun.
He was ok... Giggled insanely at things that werent even funny.. well maybe to him i guess... but yeah...

can anyone say bell curve?? Not effective as a prof, not enough focus on the material relevant to the course (come on it's stats, who cares about how it can make things fun).
He didn't help ITV student (me) when I had a question, told me to look up the answer. Not very impressed, because of him I changed my major.
A jovial fellow. Everyone hates stats, but he tries his best to make it palatable.
Odd, but a good prof all the same
I couldn't find anything that interested me in this research and stats course, which I had to take. However, "Professor Logan" as he calls himself in the 3rd person all the time did his best to make it interesting. He does have an odd sense of
Has a god complex. Nasty little man, who thinks it's fun to make his exams VERY HARD and has nothing to do with what he teaches in class
He has an odd sense of humour, but he made the methods class interesting. I'd recomend him over some other profs for sure.
Most memorable moment with him: his story about why never to get a haircut from Walmart. Nice, knows his stuff but a little dull and cheesy. Be prepared to hear him laugh at his own jokes. A lot.
HE is really in to what he is teaching, and he always respones to emails.
A more-or-less interesting subject, and he makes it a little bit better. The purple hair was funny. Yes, laughs at own jokes, and these can be funny also. An overall good teacher, who communicates fairly well.
This guy is very helpful and really wants the students to like the material. It would be helpful if he used more demos and tried to keep his lecture notes under 20 pages so we can get through them in one lecture, though.
Very approachable and helpful. I was impressed with his availability and willingness to help.
Cognitive psyc was boring but he was a nice prof. Tried really hard to make the class more interesting.
Doesnt matter what he says in class, the exams have nothing to do with what he teaches. All material is irrelevant when it comes to the exam. There are questions abot things never covered or even mentioned. Hes a nice guy, but his exams are brutal, well b/c he doesnt teach what he tests
Very fair, responds well to emails and is very helpful. Covers lots in class with many examples. Hands back and goes over exams in class. Expect exam questions that are analytic and interpretive instead of regurgative. Open book exams-even allowed old sample exams!!
I hate stats, but I loved this prof. Very helpful, and laughs at his own jokes.
great prof: clear, complete, fair, lots of examples
Porf Logan looks very nice and helpful, but he does not return any e-mails, and speaks to people as if they don't know anthing. I really do not think he knows how to teach this particular class, cause his exams were the opposite of his class. he is funny and all, but should be more helpful to students, especially since this is a difficult class.
Logan was enthusiastic about the material, and he really knows his stuff. He tries hard to accomodate students and make his exams reasonable. A bit of a fast talker though.
This guy isn't a stats person, so sux to be all of you who took it w/ him. He's a great guy, but speaks to quickly and his notes have "holes" in them. His midterm was unbelievably challenging, but he made up for it with bell-curving and bonus marks. The material was really really intersting. If you study and don't procrastinate you'll do well.

he's kinda corny.. and laughs at his own jokes.. but he tries really hard to make the class interesting. I didn't like how he practically read off his slides in class.. made it really easy to skip his class.. and when you went, it was boring because all he did was read what we already had a copy of.
Logan consistently wasted the first 40 minutes of class fiddling with his computer or telling stupid jokes. I found attending the lectures to be a waste of time as he just read off of the slides. I ended up dropping the course due to a lack of interest.
Excellent Prof.! Lectures are clear and mostly straight out of a good textbook. Midterm was challenging but final was easy. He curves the marks to make sure you get a fair grade.
I enjoyed the class I took with Prof Logan. His midterm was challenging, but the way he handled the grading was very fair. He enjoys teaching and is a good lecturer. His jokes can sometimes be corny, but they make the lectures fun. Overall, he's great prof and I would take a class with him again.
Pretty good prof.. likes to talk ALOT, but he's entertaining!
Run!!! The exams are brutal! The average on the midterm was borderline failure before altered the marks. He has a positive attitude during class but he reads off the slides. The exam questions make you want to cry with frustration. And no matter what he says, make sure to know every detail from everything, including all names and research results.
open book tests and final, no midterm, 3 assignments worth 40% combined that are time consuming but doable.
He's awesome and more than fair. We had open book quizes every week AND an open book multiple choice final exam (it's not as easy as it sounds but it was still way less than hard). He always made me laugh 'cause he would talk to the CUTV camera men. It keeps class somewhat entertaining for such a dull subject. Plus he's cog. psych so WOOO
Made a good attempt at making horrendous material interesting. Acouple of research papers help to better understand the material. Exam was open book but brutal! Suggest studying before going to this one! If you go to class and take notes and study, you will survive - but barely!
I wasn't sure about him from the beginning because there were quizzes every week - but with open book at-home quizzes, easily marked papers, and an open-book final, he's pretty awesome. It's a class that takes up a lot of your time, but it prepares you for the final and you aren't cramming last minute. Go J-Lo! :)
WONDERFUL PROF! Highly recommend him! Clear, helpful, funny. Very approachable and exams/assignments were completely relevant to course material and were graded fairly. Hope to have more classes with him!
good to have a quiz each week, less stress then midterm and was open book. Final was open book, but don't be fooled, IT WAS HARD! you need to read and know your stuff first.
He can be a bit long-winded and go off on tangents, and make jokes that are not funny sometimes, which can be a bit boring. But overall, he is good at explaining the material and helps students to do well.
Lectures are fairly clear, runs over certain concepts to fast and boring to listen to
I like his jokes and it make statistics class more interesting. I find Professor Logan to be very thorough and clear when it comes to figuring out the problems AND doing the Excel assignments.
Prof. Logan is great. His sense of humour makes what would normally be an exceedingly dry class somewhat enjoyable. This is as good as a statistics course is going to get for those who hate working with numbers or are very bad at it. Open book everything, but you still have to put a lot of work in, especially if you are mathematically challenged.
Does a good job on a dry subject. He's very well organized and prepared. I know his quirky style grates some people, but I found him to be amusing. Comes across a genuine good guy.
Awesome prof with an excellent understanding of cognitive psychology. Yes, it's a stats course, but he uses his knowledge of cog psych to designed it so that we actually learned something, as opposed to the traditional course format of 2 mid-terms, final exam, possible assignment, etc. Work your schedule around this man and you won't regret it.
Very cute :), adore the accent. Research methods were easily broken down with him. Explained things well generally and if you study you can do well.
Logan made everything clear and easy, carefully explaining (and re-explaining...) everything from basic excel usage, to complicated statistical analysis. no midterms, 3 excel assignments, weekly webCT quizzes and a final exam. open book everything. I'm not a mathematical person at all, but I got an A+ in this course.
This prof tries to be funny but he is not funny at all. I did not attend class (only went to 4 classes) because he is so hard to understand and his notes are not the best. I used the textbook to learn everything (it is a must buy!). Allowed cheat sheets for exam, exam is kind of difficult, assignments are very fair and not too hard just do the work
Great prof! Very helpful and funny.
Pretty good prof, makes me not hate first year psych as much as I would without his little jokes and interesting ideas.
Logan was a pretty good professor. He tries to make jokes and be "hip" or relate to the students. He sometimes gets off topic. Notes are pretty long and not always clear. Attendance is very recommended. Final was 100 MC questions and open book but NOT EASY. He marks fairly though.
Logan is adorable. Very entertaining to watch! Weekly quizzes of 2 hours for 15 questions! Open your textbook, have your notes ready and you'll get above a 75%. Make sure you study the weekly material though. Final was HARD. 100 mult. choice (open book) Make good notes!!! Do SONA expirements too! FREE 4% and got me from an 81 to an 85% final grade.
he is not fun and unclear.
Goes over material in class soo fast and just reads off the slides without explaining things. Made me not like stats. Tricky quiz questions and excel assign.
Nice person, but not so good of a prof. Weekly quizzes are a pain to do but it does force you to read the textbook. Favourite thing is that he laughs spontaneously in class
Professor Logan is really cute and funny. He makes stats enjoyable by making jokes and telling funny stories. He explains things well and tries to go slowly so everyone can understand. YOU HAVE TO READ THE TEXTBOOK THOUGH. I liked him as a professor and would recommend him. :)
This professor is possibly one of the worst profs I've had so far in university. He starts off very easy, which was very misleading, because as the course went on, he made everything extremely overcomplicated and confusing. He is terrible at explaining things and showing things in his sample assignments. Totally don't recommend.
Jolly little fellow that sees fit to burst into spontaneous laughter midway through explanation of a concept that is important to cohesion and understanding of the course material. Extremely disdainful towards students that require help beyond the shoe gazing lecturing approach. Appeared to be completely disinterested in teaching in general. Beware
I actually really liked him to be honest! Material was dry, that's just stats. He goes off topic sometimes but not for long and I never found it annoying or anything! Quizzes had tricky questions, but exam wasn't hard.
Beware of an excruciating annoying laugh every 30 seconds from this prof. It is actually really hard to focus because literally at the end of every sentence he would blurt out that awkward chuckle. He "jokingly" impersonates students with serious questions in class. Overall an ignorant professor who gets paid far too much for what he does.
Amazing Professor, broke everything down for you and because stats is hard to a lot of people I was very impressed with how he taught this course. Hoping for my next stats class to be with him!!
Great Prof! Having weekly quizzes was sooo much better than other psyc profs who give you two midterms. Also final exam was open book, laptop and whatever notes or anything you wanted to bring with you. Highly recommend if you can get past the cheesy jokes.
Did not enjoy this class at all and I think it was only because of this prof. He giggles a lot and gets off topic all the time, and makes the material a lot more confusing than it should be. The final exam was an open book exam but don't be fooled, it was IMPOSSIBLE and took me so long to write. Avoid him if you can!
F2013-Professor Logan talks a mile-a-minute making his lectures quite boring. You kind of get the feeling that he's just spilling out everything that he's rehearsed and forgets that there's a class in front of him. Forget trying to ask questions in class, save them for after class. Very knowledgeable however and he was passionate about psychology.
Easy class overall. Material was pretty basic and not hard to understand. Professor on the other hand continuously talks about random stuff and gets off topic so easily you somewhat get confused sometimes. If you read the material, you'll notice everything he teaches comes from it. Book isn't hard to understand either.
Class was sometimes tedious, but this is Statistics, of course. Don't need to be a math genius, and Prof. Logan explains what's needed. We did Excel calculation assignments, online quizzes, and an open book multiple choice final exam. Can be an easy A if you practicekeep up with the material. Jolly fellow, but occasionally has attitude...
A quirky little fellow. Very jolly and adorable, you can't help but smile at his awkwardness. The topic was pretty dry and boring, don't hold that against him. I liked how there are weekly online quizzes instead of midterms. He uses your best 10 quizzes out of 13 for your final mark. Final exam is open book. Pretty nice.
I found Stats in Cegep very easy, so I was thrown off with how difficult and tedious the material was in PSYC 2002. Professor Logan really cares about his students, and gives you all the help you need, but the quizzes and final somehow didn't reflect what he said in class.
This prof will make you cringe with his dad jokes but you can't not love him. I would suggest keeping up on the material because it can feel overwhelming if you try to understand everything right before the quiz. He gives sample assignments that are exactly what you need to do, just with different numbers. Exam open book and you can use the internet
My first issue was the Profs decision to use a free online textbook, it was horrible and I ended up buying the book all the other Profs were using. You need to follow the lectures and take notes or you'll likely fail. His lecture slides provide all the necessary formulas but you won't know how to apply them.
I have mixed feelings about this professor, but given his providing of an open-book final I would be inclined to recommend him. Quizzes did not seem to reflect what was taught in class, I believe he took his questions from a question bank. Assignments however were very easy as a sample assignment was provided before hand.
Hes a nice guy, I am a science student and so i found this class super easy. He is a bit rank oriented for my liking (always talking about prestige of university, gpa averages, stuff like that). Most confusing syllabus I have ever seen too. Overall I recommend, don't really have to watch lectures if you're in a hard science. Very easy course.
For a stats class going through equations step by step aids in grasping concepts. He simply reads off of the slides and explains each equation in only words. Very condescending in saying that the concepts are easy and "even your grandmother will understand this". I used a textbook from a different section and taught myself everything.
John is a very good teacher for Stats. He knows how to teach to the students that do not understand stats very well. Its pretty easy to get a good mark as long as you do good on assignments and weekly quizzes. He does not respond to emails though.
John is honestly the best! I was worried about taking stats as a psyc major because math isn't my best subject, but he made it very simple and easy to understand. If you have the opportunity to take stats with him do it!! Easy A!!
This is the most difficult class I have ever taken at Carleton. The material is extremely challenging and hopefully the fact that the exam is open book will save me, though I doubt it. Prof is lovely, but the material is so dry and if you have zero background with anything more than basic math you will not do well.
The hardest class I've taken at Carleton, Professor Logan explains things to us as if we're math students. As someone who is not a math person I was floundering and I barely got by even with extra help.
I'd give him a B+ - A- in dad joke type material. Dadness humour is good. Otherwise, he makes everything pretty straightforward. Just do the work. There are never any surprises with quizzes/exams. Also, he gives you multiple quizzes rather than a few assignments worth most of your grade making it easy to stay alive for my fellow non-math friends.
If you have to take a stats class, take it with professor Logan. Graded on quizzes, excel assignments and an open book exam (No midterm!). I absolutely hate math and managed to actually do well AND learn something. My only other recommendation is to splurge on the VOD classes if you can, they're life-saving regardless of who's teaching.
Professor Logan simplifies statistics and makes it very easy to succeed in his class, direct focus to excel assignments even though they are worth 20% all together they are extremely tricky. Weekly quizzes are tough but the final exam is open book and 70% of the questions can be answered by taking the table numbers and inputting them into excel.
Structure of the class is fair but I wouldn't be able to tell you what I learned. The only way you'll get through the class if you're not strong in math is to work together with your classmates to understand the content. He reads off the slides in the lectures but it's still too complex. Class average for the final exam & course was extremely low.
Not an easy class for those who aren't strong in math. I don't feel that the prof simplified the material enough because it was still quite complex and hard to follow. Do your best to do well on the quizzes & excel assignments throughout the semester so that you don't feel overwhelmed for the final. Ask for help or you will feel lost & fall behind.
This course was quite difficult and the material is not simplified for those who aren't strong in math. He reads off the slides in the lectures so it's still hard to understand the concepts. Put in the work for the quizzes and excel assignments to help boost your grade during the semester.
While I believe Professor Logan is a nice man, the online formatting of this course combined with the lack of responses to emails is what made this course frustrating. Email enquiries go weeks unanswered which rends understanding math concepts difficult without further collaboration. If you aren't strong in math you need to teach yourself a lot.
Prof. Logan is not the most accessible, however does reply eventually. As a human being, susceptible to errors but will always say oops, yep that was wrong - and fixes the issue/ updates the class. Be prepared to work, be consistent with the material and attend tutorial hours if you have questions - you will do fine.
He is the sweetest man ever! Takes a long time to reply to emails, but his class is so easy so it wasn't a big deal. He made it very easy to succeed in this class, gave no midterm or final exam. The weekly quizzes were super easy. His lectures were interesting and not monotone like other professors.
Not the best prof I've had at Carleton but certainly not terrible either. Will not round grades up or respond to e-mails, take this course if you don't mind the material being self taught. One added bonus is that your three lowest quiz grades are dropped with 4% which can be obtained from taking part in Sona experiments plus the textbook is free
Very minimal effort on his part and his TAs parts in terms of responding to emails. Both the professor and the TAs give little to no support. For an online course during COVID, I was really disappointed in the lack of support, especially for a class as difficult as this one in terms of the content.
Takes a long time to respond to his emails, but he gives very detailed rubrics of how to succeed in his class. the readings are mandatory because you have a test every week. overall there are long papers, lots of test and readings but for a research class very managable
He was a nice guy, and the class was pretty easy. His slides were pretty info-heavy but he explains things well. The papers were a bit unclear to me at times, but the quizzes are all pretty straight-forward. The textbook being free was a nice bonus! And he drops 3 lower quiz marks which is really nice.
This course has no exams but has weekly quizzes and 3 large assignments. Was difficult because the prof and Ta's were very hard to get in touch with, would not reply for weeks. The prof would post the assignment a week before its due with very little instruction or guidance for using statistical software.
bad at teaching but class is easy, if you take his class you'll understand. lectures provide insight but feel like a waste of time.
He is a nice professor. He goes through slides very quickly. This year he had two midterms, first went very well for the class but then he thought that it was too easy for us and proceeded to make the second very difficult making the class average for the second in the 50s. He proceeded to blame us for the grade even though the test was open book.
Nice guy overall but is very confusing when it comes to giving out CLEAR instructions and doesn't tell you what content is on your tests and final exam until maybe two days before if you're lucky
Unclear and unorganized when giving instructions for assignments. Doesn't teach well, just reads off slides. Made second midterm unnecessarily hard because he was upset with how high the class average was for the first midterm.
Lectures and slides were impossible to understand, just disorganized content. Had 2 mid terms, 2 big projects and an exam which was not ideal but okay weight. Professor was very energetic and enthusiastic but I still could not listen or follow to his lectures. Im not a C student, so a C in this class is a good representation of the content.
Professor Logan is a very sweet and caring person overall, always laughing during lectures which makes the content a little less gloomy. But, our final assignment was brutal to say the least, we were all so confused with little guidelines to help us. The 2nd midterm was made harder than the first because our results were too high. Final was hard.
This course was difficult in terms of midterms and the final exam, as they were worded weirdly and overall difficult tests. Prof Logan is good at making engaging lectures, but that would be the extent of it. My class also had difficulty communicating with him, and often he would not respond to emails. Disappointing because he seems like a nice guy!
I had this class first thing in the morning but I would wake up immediately when he walked in and started his booming laughter. His lectures were never boring (considering the subject matter) and the expectations for the assignments were clear. You need to read the textbook as a lot of test questions are from there, which were not covered otherwise
Could not stand this professor. Tried to ask him questions on multiple occasions and was either blown off or given a very basic answer that did not answer the question at all. He curved the class final mark, then took it away without saying anything until eventually told us he messed up uploading marks originally so it was taken away. Did not like.
Professor Logan is a funny and caring professor overall. He clearly outlines what is expected of you for tests and assignments. This a course that demands a certain level of effort to perform well. As long as you invest yourself, you'll do well. To be honest the textbook was optional in order to get a good grade. Focus on lectures and you're golden
Though this course was required and was not looking forward to it, Professor Logan made it bearable. Funny and kind professor who makes the course and assignment/test expectations clear. Despite the subject matter, he made lectures entertaining and offered plenty of support during office hours, after class and via email.
