Easiest finance class I've taken so far. 4 open book and note tests with only 25 questions each. Balance sheet, income statement, and spending forecast are really easy to do and take only about 30 minutes to complete. Easy A if you take notes.
4 Open book and note test really easy. 3 projects but really only takes 30 minutes to compete them all. Should take down notes to make an easy A. All lectures, no powerpoints
Great professor and a useful class overall! He changed the format of the class to NO tests, assignments (really easy if you follow the format), and online homework. Go to class for clickers! Highly recommended if you want to learn how to manage your personal finances and an easy and rewarding class experience!!!
Great professor!!! His lectures are really great and homeworks are helpful also.....no tests, only projects but easy to do. Highly recommend him!!! Also, he is a very good looking professor :)
Great professor!! I would recommend this class to any and every student at UH! The class is not hard by any means, but it truly helps you with real life situations. He is such a helpful professor and is willing to give you advice with your personal financial problems and questions. Bottom line: Take this class!!
Personal Finance; This class is a great class for young people. The information you get from this course will stay with you the rest of your life. I would recommend Lopez over the other professors for this class. Easy A.
Great Professor, even if you aren't a business student take this class, it'll help you the rest of your life. No tests, just weekly quizzes over the videos (easy) and a few assignments.
I have attended both his personal finance class and the financial planning class he teaches. GREAT TEACHER. He tried to set up some internships for me and fielded plenty of questions I had about both my personal finances and getting into financial services. He wants you to succeed. Dont goof around. I learned so much! Best teacher at Bauer! Period.
VERY VERY HELPFUL class that actually helps you in the real world. Just make sure to attend class and be on time and do all your assignments on time. Great professor, made an A.
what an amazing class. You learn valid information that you can apply in your real life. The material is very easy. Wish this class was offered when I was a freshman.I got a solid A in the class. Great professor!
Hybrid class. Based off of Dave Ramsey's college financial course. Assignments are easy and apply to your real life situation. The best class I have ever taken at UH. Money well spent. Everything you learn, you will apply to your everyday life. Professor Lopez is great & very helpful. Easy A, GPA Booster & you will actually learn something.
Very easy class, there are no tests just online assignments. Attendance is mandatory though and a lot of the stuff you learn you'll need in the future.
Easy A, but with knowledge comes responsibility. After taking this class, I don't wanna grow up.
You can get a lot of good financial information and knowledge in this class, and those may be very helpful in your real life. No exams, but just Aplia and some assignments, but the assignments are easy, so no worry. You need a clicker to get points, but I think his clicker points are not clear little bit. That's only one what I don't like.
He is a great professor and the class is fun and engaging. You will learn a lot from the lecture content and videos.
Professor Lopez's finance class is like no other. This class teaches you how to be cautious of your own spending, investing, purchases in your lifetime (home, car, life insurance). Things that will be very important to each of us upon graduation. No exams are given for this class. Class consist of Income statement, balance sheet, Aplia & spend plan
The class is really easy. Just do Aplia and some Assignment, cash flow and balance sheet, and clicker. Easy A. The professor is really nice and his lecture is helpful to understand personal finance. But I think he is not an experienced teacher enough. Sometimes very strict with students. Never turn on your cellphone in class.
The two things you want in a class: EASY and you LEARN ALOT. Weekly aplia assignments. Daily Clickers. If you don't want to put in work you can easily fall in the B range. Gives some extra credit also.
No tests, barely any HW. Great guy.
Easy A, but don't underestimate the amount of assignments given in this class!... Grading point-system was a little confusing. No exams but there are clickers, aplia assignments, and other assignments given every other week. He's not really lenient as far as grading is concerned.
Easy A class. feel like a 1000-level class. No exams, but some assignments and aplia, but his grading system is a little bit confusing. you also need a clicker in his class. just take this class if you wanna boost your gpa,
Well, without a doubt the worst professor I've ever had. He's extremely rude, and give no leniency on his grading. The worst thing is he provides no information on assignment due dates. He makes you glad you are only in college for four years.
Take this class if you wanna boost your gpa. just some assignments, clicker points, and aplia. That's it, but you have to pay for your aplia code.
Easy A class. you can learn about a general individual finance in this class, such as TVM, insurance, investment, retirement plan, and more. you should buy a code to complete Aplia, and also need a clicker. No exams, but just a few assignments.
This is one of the EASY class at Bauer. Available after class for any discussion or questions. Online homework assignments no exams and a lot of extra credit opportunity. I missed 4 homework assignment but attended all the extra credit ended up with A - .EASY Class.
Definitely Easy A. Homeworks are not much and just a few assignments such as cash flow statement and balance sheet things. it's pretty easy, and you need a clicker to check you attendance and get points in class.
His finance class was easy. I learned basic finance calculation, insurance, investment, and more. His assignments were pretty easy, but he always checked an attendance. it's mandatory.
he decided to change it up this semester. 3 tests (10chapters each) & one final cumulative!
Took professor Lopez this past summer for Honors Intro to Finance. It was his first semester teaching this course and he did a great job! Grades are based on 2 midterms, 1 final and about 12 homeworks. Hwks are relatively easy but not a great indicator of what will be on the tests. Tests are heavily concept based rather than problem solving.
Great professor. Class was a Hybrid so we met 1x a week. Every college student should be forced to take his class. Easy A if you do the work and don't slack off. If you make less than a B, business school is not for you.
Great professor, really wants you to succeed. If you read your textbooks and do the Kaplan questions, there is no way you won't do well in this class. I'm not sure why so many people complain; the tests come almost straight from your practice questions. It is a lot of material, but it's setting you up for success in your career.
You have to read in order to pass. Kaplan is a huge help! Do the kaplan questions to help prepare you for the test. The questions on the exams are sorta based on Kaplan but not 100%. Professor Lopez is a very great teacher!!! But he does not give any reviews to the test. There are 3 exams and 1 comprehensive final exam.
Professor Lopez is an amazing professor. His class uses a conceptual test method that isnt clumped into huge exams. Instead, you have a free response quiz every couple of weeks. Very interesting lectures too.
Not a 'bad' professor, but is one of the hardest classes I've taken at Bauer... Maybe it's because I'm not a finance major but this class was very hard for me. So much material and the class moves at a fast pace. Must read the textbook thoroughly and do your Kaplan questions in order to pass. Not at all an easy A.
By far the worst professor I've ever taken at UH. Please avoid taking him. He assigns a lot of homework it's hard to keep up. There are about 16 quizzes with 30 questions each. His lectures don't help! The book is your best friend. There's 4 exams and a FINAL! Avoid taking him, especially taking two of his classes at same time.
If you want to learn, take him. He dedicates to his students and to the industry. He truly cares about you if you want to learn. He explains concepts easier to understand with examples. If you failed his class.. it's def on you. The homework is base on Kaplan. It's 30 questions/chapter ; it's totally doable. Yes, you have to buy book online for hw.
If you want to learn, go with him.. He gives you tons of internships and opportunities. Talk to him, he genuinely cares about you if you want to learn. He has lots of connection w the industry. Highly recommend.
When I say this, I don't mean this out of spite. I am a Senior and out of ALL my professors I have taken in the duration of my BBA. He is the Absolute WORST teacher I have had. I never settle for D's but had to for his class because his version of trying to help is ridiculing you on why you got the answer wrong on the quiz. His quizzes are 0 or 10.
Took him for the required finance course and I wouldn't really take him again. He doesn't really teach, he plays a YouTube vid every time I've gone to class. TopHat questions at the end of every class but he doesn't start until there is 5 mins left and you never really get to answer them in time. 4 exams and 1 final. Extra credit is given.
The professor does not really teach, 4 exams plus a cumulative final exam, yet not one exam is dropped, there is NO CURVE on any test, the cengage homework is done using the average feature, so if you screw up and get a 1/4 in a problem, it averages your next attempts. Your test grade depends on the test bank questions you get, not what you know.
Lopez was a great professor. Organized, friendly, and informative. Instruction focuses on the "WHY" and not the "HOW". Also highly accessible outside of class. Just find him in the Bauer commons and start a conversation. He has many connections to the industry and is always willing to help his students succeed in his class and corporate America.
Took him for the required Finance course, and I wouldn't really take him again. He plays YouTube vids every time I went to his class, and it wasn't worth the drive. TopHat questions every class, but he doesn't start them until there's 5 mins left in the class, so you don't really finish them. 4 test with curve and a final. Don't recommend him.
This course requires you to put in the time and effort. Professor Lopez explains the material well but as with every class you must do your part. Reading the Cengage book is helpful, assignments are AVERAGE not highest of 3, so beware. 4 exams this semester, and he curves exams if he sees necessary. Overall knowledgeable & passionate. Be prepared.
The whole class is made of group projects but they help you become a better CFP. You get a case every week that takes hours to finish in a group so be ready for that. You definitely won't fail as long as you do all the things assigned. Many internships and job opportunities sent to you by the professor.
Professor Lopez is such a great guy and is very understanding. There were 4 tests and 1 final. If you study his powerpoints and read the cengage youll be more than ready. Always meet w/ him after your test! He will bump you points if he feels the question was not fair! This class is def harder with the other prof. Tests were mostly conceptual!
Prof. Lopez is definitely one of the better professors teaching this course. Class consists of 4 exams and a cumulative final, chapter homeworks and extra credit (EC won't hurt your grade if you don't do them but surely will help you if you do them). Overall, nice guy, he loves finance, and is always willing to have a conversation to help you out.
Overall Great professor! He loves what he does, explains well. However, he needs to switch his grading system for attendance, Tophat poll at the end class, get it wrong its like you didn't even go. For exams he pulls from a test bank (300 questions) which can be unfair, ppl may get easier test than others. Offers curves and final is cumulative.
One of the best professors at Bauer. Provides real-world advice and internship opportunities. Complete Kaplan questions thoroughly to achieve a decent grade in the course. Prepare to spend about $220 on course materials for FINA 4352 and another for FINA 4325. Print the book. Helpful materials for CFP exam. Definitely worth it. I made an A.
I don't think prof Lopez cares about this class at all. His lecture is vague. Prepared for teaching yourself the whole class. He loves concept questions, and better learn by heart the whole textbook to get an A. He has 4 tests throughout the semester and a cumulative final test, in total 5 tests.
honestly he is alright, out of the two finance teachers he is the better one based off reviews. i barely made an A in the class but my friend had to become the professor for me. his powerpoints are sometimes too vague and his voice can be easily tuned out. if you understand finance/accounting in general you'll probably do good. don't underestimate.
There's 4 test plus a final, thats insane. 50 questions and its all conceptual; hard and no review!! There's a review powerpoint, but wont help at all. READ THE TEXTBOOK!! Class is mandatory, he does tophat questions. If you answer a tophat question wrong you don't get any points. No curve, only 5 points added IF you complete all hw extra credit.
4 exams and 1 final. which is incredibly irritating. he's a nice guy, but his lectures & powerpoints are not enough to pass the class. he has practice problems on his lectures but he doesn't even know the answers to them. exams are rough. mostly conceptual, so you better memorize that textbook. tophat is also dumb but it's a grade.
Honestly you will be lost in this class if you don't read the textbook and take advantage of the tutors. Class is tough as his exams are hard since they are conceptual. There is no proper review so you don't even know what to study for the exams. He basically reads off a powerpoint and talk in a way that can be confusing for many students.
Don't be scared by the bad reviews. Information to study can be confusing at times but it is doable. Read the book and make sure you can apply the information on exams. In my experience, he is a reasonable guy who is passionate about finance and is willing to help. Gave us extra credit opportunities as well.
Professor Lopez is old-school, but he's nice and gets the job done. He does give 5 exams which is a lot to be honest, and he is 100% conceptual. Read the chapter reviews! Offers extra credit and takes Tophat for attendance (also curved). If you need help with the calc, look up YT videos. Lots of exams but it's doable imo.
Every exam has 50 questions, and are conceptual. Review the powerpoints/tophat and you should be good. Make sure you go to class and do your tophat. Homework is NOT hard! He offers extra credit that will boost your final grade. He got annoyed when people would ask common sense questions. I was late many times to class and got a B+ you will be fine.
Good professor! If you do not come to class you will not PASS. Your TOPHAT points are worth more than your homework assignments !! Meaning all your hard work on homework will mean nothing...
Another boring PPT professor who just reads off of slides. Attendance is mandatory, miss a couple classes and your grade will be nuked due to the tophat being 20% of your grade. 5 tests (4 exams, 1 cumulative final) is a bit much. Final is 30% of your grade. Homework is easy but doesn't correlate to the exams. Do the practice exams, read the book.
Prof. Lopez is the BEST professor I have ever taken throughout my academic career. We have to read the book, his exams are straight from the book. VERY knowledgeable and friendly, responds to emails on time. Gives out extra credit, must read, read and read to pass the TEST. Best professor ever.
Good professor, I just didn't go to class as often as I should have.
Professor Lopez is honestly IMO the best Finance professor UH currently offers. His tests (excluding the TVM one) are EXTREMELY conceptual but study the slides+the review questions and you will be ok. GO TO CLASS and do the top hat. He teaches well but the tophat grade will sneak up on you. If you prefer easier tophat and more math take Suleymanov.
Attendance is mandatory using TopHat (15% grade). He ALWAYS starts the TopHat quizzes at the end of class & routinely goes until the very end. He did curve TopHat at the end. Be ready to be late to your next class if its immediately after. 5 tests (4 exams, 1 cumulative final) Final is 30% of your grade. Homework is easy.
Read the textbook, and do the practice exams. You'll be set.
Prof. Lopez is the BEST professor I have ever taken throughout my academic career. You must read the book, the exams are straight out of the book. Very knowledgeable and friendly, responds to emails on time. Gives out extra credit. You must read, read, and read to pass the tests. His exams are conceptual.
Professor Lopez is actually amazing. His lectures are so intriguing, clear and he is so good at explaining things. Probably one of the best professors at Bauer, he really cares about us. I always see him walking with students after class, he's so open to talk with you. To do well: read the textbook, GO TO CLASS EVERYTIME, do the practice exams.
Extremely concept heavy, prepare to read textbook before class in order to understand material.
Worst professor I've ever taken. Even his top hat questions are hard. He wants you to fail his classes are really boring and he doesn't even put anything from his classes or power points or review tests on the actual test.
5 Tests concept heavy, KNOW THE TEXTBOOK! Main challenge in this class isn't the material, but the grading scheme. TopHat = 20% of grade; little time to answer + if you're wrong, NO CREDIT. Decent Lectures but they barely cover materials. TopHat is why they're vital. Accidentally miss the test feedback session & your test will be penalized!
5 tests, but to get an A, study his practice problems (some are word for word on exams), powerpoints (only 30 slides more or less), textbook (only the key terms, key concepts, and learning outcomes), YouTube videos he posts (shows how-to math problems). He offers 5% extra credit to FINAL grade if you do practice hw. IMO, Lopez is best prof to get A
The man is a good lecturer; however, exams require reading/memorizing the textbook to do well. You only need a 90 to make an A with 5 points worth of extra credit available. My only gripe with this class is how heavily TopHat is graded (worth a whopping 15% of your overall grade). Miss a few classes and you'll drop a letter or more of your grade.
Honestly don't explain to any of the bad comments on lopez, he is a pretty lad back professor. just make sure to attend each lecture because that top hat grade sneaks up on your final grade. i believe the most vital thing is to go over practice exams and key concepts of every chapter you need to know. i barely ever studied and still managed a B.
“Understand why it's happening, not the formula”. Tophat questions after every class. You have to make an 80 or higher for extra credit to count. Exams are nothing like practice. Not very clear at explaining things so people understand them.
My class size was 13 and only 5 would show up regularly. I have noticed the people that showed up regularly to class scored higher on his exams. His lectures give a good overview of the topic, and textbook material is a good supplemental. At the bare minimum, do Kaplan questions and you're good.
I enjoyed his class. One of the first professors where I'm not bored of the lectures, very clear to understand and easy to ask questions. If there was ever a time I couldn't understand a concept, I would just go to Edspira on YouTube. Practice exams are similar to the actual exam. Test after every two chapters which made it easier to study.
5 EXAMSS. Do not underestimate how much time you have to put aside to study for this course. He is a good professor but there is so much to learn in such a short amount of time a lot of time you will spend teaching yourself. Go to class or your grade will go down tremendously because tophat is worth 20% exams are worth 40% final is 30%. hw 10%.
Professor Lopez is a pretty average professor. His lectures aren't phenomenal. Going to class consistently could give you up to 5 extra credit points on final average grade. It is important to stay on top of the homework, although it is harder than the exams. As long as you take time to study and look through the book you should be fine.
Honestly the first time in my entire college journey that I had to read a text book. This class is all about vocabulary and concepts. You will have to look over the practice exams and memorize them because those questions will appear on the tests. Take advantage of the top hat, extra credit and Hw their all grade boosters. Its hard but manageable.
This professor was okay. He talks about the importance of vocabulary and concepts that you need to study, but as a student, you need to do TopHat questions (which can be similar to questions on tests). Lots of studying to memorize it for exams. If you study well for practice exams, textbook and etc, you should be fine for now.
Professor Lopez was an amazing professor. Just be ready, there are 5 exams for this course. Not too much homework, but it is graded on your average for your attempts instead of the highest attempt. I would 100% take him again. I loved his lectures, and he is always open to answer your questions!
If you are an acct student the first 2 tests will be a breeze for you; they are basic accounting. The class is genuilely a cake walk, my studying strategy as someone who skipped most lectures (DO NOT SKIP THOUGH I JUST HAD 6 CLASSES) : read the entire chapter on your own first, then run thru his slides, then do practice tests / hw / test reviews.
our original fina prof quit mid semester so prof lopez took over our class. when he took over the material, it was a lot easier to digest and was wayyyy better than the prof we had before. prof lopez kept our og syllabus so it was less time consuming as it would've been if he switched it to his own syllabus
There are 5 total test but they are easy if you put in the time. The assigned homework is very helpful and extra credit is available in the weekly practice problems. if you can understand what is going on in the lecture you will do well in the class. The professor also personally tutors in the FINA tutoring lab.
He is not a lenient professor nor does he explain the lectures well. He always goes on a tangent and side conversations which makes us take the chapter in twice the time. He also has a total of 5 exams with the final being cumulative. He does not curve nor drop exams. They are also very concept heavy, barely any math at all.
This professor does not curve exam, no extra credits, no review before exams. There are 4 tests with 50 questions each, unnecessarily hard and a another 50 question comprehensive final. Too sad he's the only one that teaches this class at my school.,
This professor does not curve exam, no extra credits, no review before exams. There are 4 tests with 50 questions each, unnecessarily hard and a another 50 question comprehensive final. Too sad he's the only one that teaches this class at my school. also applies for FINA 4325, just i cant find the course here.
Professor Lopez has been my favorite professor at UH so far, very chill, and overall, the class is not hard. There are four exams, plus a final. All exams were relatively easy, consisting of multiple-choice questions and 50 questions each. The extra-credit assignments were particularly helpful at the end of the semester.
I can't say how easy this class is. I was a senior in Accounting by the time I got around to taking this so a lot of it came naturally to me. I'd study his practice tests for half an hour to an hour and still get at least a 85. Just show up and don't skip anything. Its not that hard
