He is the BEST! Really knows what he is talking about. Gives us a lot of background info on the paintings. He respects your opinions on your papers, you are never wrong. He's very kind and understanding, doesn't get mad when you are late. Gives us a study guide everyday and tells us what's on the exam. It's VERY easy to do well in this class.
wonderful professor. the best class i ever took! very easy to get an A in his class. As long as you study the art work and give your opinions on things, your sure for a good grade. easy grader as well.
He is a really nice professor with great knowledge in the field of Art. He explains everything extremely clearly. On the exams.. all you have to do is memorize some information about each art piece and explain it in your own opinions clearly.
Great professor! He made architecture and cities so interesting. Very organized lessons. The class is laid back but you still learn a lot. We also went on 4 trips outside of class. Your grade is based on participation, an in-class midterm and a take-home final essay. Highly recommended!
Brilliant professor. Highly knowledgeable. Easy to understand. Provides more than enough supporting material. Selected interesting readings for the course. Class included field trips. Exams were essay, short-answer based. Helped develop critical thinking skills about the topic of interest, in this case the architecture and design of great cities.
this guy is really cool. he has a monotone voice but hes so chill. its one of the only classes in which the teacher allows everyone to voice an opinion and hell never make u feel stupid for what u say. u have to write a one pg opinion paper almost every week, and there several papers and projects to do but there not bad at all. hes very knowledgabl
If you put any effort into this class at all, you'll do well.
Great class and professor! He's helpful, clear and makes the class interesting. Highly recommended.
Hes absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best professors i ever had- his midterm was extremely detailed so it definitely takes some studying. Other than that, the class is interesting, and although a bit monotone, he brings art history to life.
You can fall asleep for every class and still be ok...all his work is on blackboard and his studyguides are really helpful. there are only a few assignments so u have to do them all and put time into them. His voice is very monotone but his dry sarcasm is funny.
Pretty easy class. Sometimes it's interesting. Only had a midterm and final exam. Two art papers that require to go to the museum. The midterm and final is based on lecture. I only opened the textbook once.
Wonderful and would take another class with him!!! Don't purchase the textbook, his exams are based on the power point slides.
LOVED HIM! got a bad grade on the midterm, but so did everyone else, so he made the final really easy on purpose! got an A on the final and A's on the easy papers...and an A overall!!...great guy, gives you a chance to redeem yourself!
take notes during his class , i think he is fair . two art papers about the Met museum. He gives study aids right after he finish one place (MUST STUDY the study aids and memorized the artworks do formal analysis) , listen really carefully what he said during the class. i never fall in sleep. I wish he can curve the grades up =)
TAKE HIM! one midterm one final two papers. He is extremely fair and very nice. He is very good at what he does and enjoys teaching the topic. Try not to fall asleep though because he has a monotone voice that you have to get used to and he dims the lights. He gives amazing study aids after every lecture and posts everything up that same day. All y
he isnt a bad teacher, but he tends to be monotone in lectures.
He is so boring, people will fall asleep in his class.I must say that his two papers to the Met was pretty easy. The midterm and final was average however you need to know all the stuff. He doesn't curve at all.Don't worry about the participation grade because he will give it to you no matter what.
BORING.
Really good and optimistic professor although, it might be boring for people who don't have any interest in art history. Midterm is VERY hard, but the final is fairly easy. The two museum reports are also easy. The only thing people have to be concerned about is the midterm, but don't worry because he makes it up by giving a fairly easy final.
Good professor. If you're willing to pay attention, its easy to score contrary to what people say. He's also quite funny.
take him easyyy A if you do your work, couldn't ask for a better art professor
It helps to pick a seat in the front of the class because you'll pay attention a lot better. The class is interesting in that he let's the class analyze and give their thoughts on the artwork and won't criticize your opinions. He give two papers & a midterm + final. You'll need to remember dates and details, but not as much as you'd think. Lenient.
If you love art, then you're going to love this professor! We basically talk about the artworks using the art vocabulary, he gives hints on whats going to be on the test so make sure you pay attention.I would recommend a seat in one of the first 5 rows so you can pay attention more. Two papers, mid term, final,no curves.
great teacher. supper interesting and relatable. knows a lot about the city and architecture and history. would recommend to any one, be prepared to read, write, and take field trips!
Professor Maciuika is awesome! He's very passionate about art and it shows through his lectures. Even though Art History is not for everyone, this professor makes it more interesting with his sense of humor. Easy grader, exams come from lecture material. Overall great professor! TAKE HIM!
Great Professor. Simply put.
He's a very good professor. He made memorizing paintings relatively interesting.
His class is boring but his tests are pretty easy if you study the study aids he posts on blackboard and the powerpoints. Don't buy the textbook and myartslab. They are useless.
He teaches in a manner that is interesting about art and mostly architecture (he majored in that). Print out his powerpoints before class and take notes on them. His tests are based on the main idea of what he talk about in class (ex: a word and then artworks that relates to it). DO NOT BUY THE BOOK (test is not based on it). 1 midterm and final. n
He makes this class SOOOO much harder than it needs to be. He gives way to much information to study that doesn't show up on the exam and expects everyone to know what he saying even though NO ONE ever took an art class before this class...STAY AWAY! (ALSO: hes very monotone when he talks)...but he is a nice guy SOMETIMEs!
Amazing professor. Just take notes on the slides he focuses on and you will do great. His tests are very easy if you study the material, which is all available on blackboard.
couldn't have chosen a better art history professor! i thought i was going to do poorly on the final but he grades very leniently. got an A! you rock prof. maciuika!
Do not buy the textbook. He just used it once. the textbook is worthless after you used the MyArtLAb account. Only worth 20 bucks in the book store, I bought it for over 130. He talks in a monotone but very hilarious at the same time. His exam is not that hard but I hope he curves because Art + History is just not Business student type. I got B+
As its been said he speaks in a monotone voice, but he's funny at the same time, especially at the right moments to wake u up. Tests are easy as long as u study what he posts in the review sheets for every chapter. He's easy and lenient just make sure make it a routine to review each chapter's paintings and terms constantly, u'll ace the class
He really makes this introductory class much harder than it has to be, there is no point for it since we are all business students and couldn't care less. The tests aren't THAT hard but too much info to take in that really does not matter once this class ends. Boring class, speaks in monotone. I was supposed to get an A but screwed final up, B+ :(
THIS CLASS WAS SUPER BORING. HE GIVES WAY TOO MUCH INFO THROUGHOUT THE CLASS TO REMEMBER. MOST OF THE INFORMATION IS NOT ON THE EXAM. HIS CLASS WASN'T HARD. WHAT MADE IT HARD WAS TRYING TO PAY ATTENTION IN HIS CLASS.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! take him for an interesting course and good grade!
He is an awesome professor!! Highly recommended! Interesting, delightful lectures, easy grader, funny jokes, He knows his subject really well!! Take him! One of the best!
SUPER BORING but very easy. Slept through every lecture, but his tests are a joke. Even if you enjoy art, you will not learn. One short paper, a few home works, nothing crazy. An easy A.
Very interesting professor! Provided fascinating angles for learning about art in a broad sense. Tests are very specific but he goes over things on the test like 100000 times.
if you're interested in art , take the course its not boring per say but he has a very monotone voice and that makes me sleepy. I FOUGHT my sleep in every class and still received and A !!! It wasn't easy though, TAKE HIS STUDY TIPS but otherwise what everyone else said is completely accurate.
Great professor. Would take again. Very knowledgeable. He has cracks a lot of jokes during class, which is great cause his voice can get a little monotonous. He will know you by your name, will know where you like to sit. He is very nice.
I can say I've never hated art so much. The professor is really nice and all but if you're not into art, you're screwed. He cracks jokes and stuff and the midterm and final is based on the power points. I had a super hard time in this class.
Alright, here's the deal: -He's pretty funny for being monotone -He pulls things from the Textbook sometimes -His PowerPoints are useful -Oh yeah, the whole course is based on tests. No Homework!!! (well, just study) -Test stuff all covered in class(don't show up and you'll know nothing) -Nice dude in general Not much else to say
I think it was 90% exam and 10% attendance. Replaces your midterm grade if you get 90+ on finals. So basically, if you get a 90+ on finals, you will get an A regardless of your midterm grade. If you just take notes in class, you won't need to do additional studying. If you don't, just research a lil bit for each of the artworks in his presentations
Honestly, the best professor I had all year. He is so hilarious if you actually pay attention to him in class. He may talk in a low voice that will put you to sleep but just sit in the front. Don't buy the textbook you don't need it. I got an A and I never looked at it. The tests are everything you learn in class and super easy if you pay attention
Easy A. Don't need textbook. Midterm and final are based on his lectures and not cumulative. Interesting man. He sounds a little boring sometimes but he knows when to crack a joke. He knows a lot of history, been to a lot of places and it's amazing to hear his stories. Digresses to religion, mainly bc of its connection with medieval art.
He has a monotone voice + dark room barely stay awake. You don't need to read the textbook at all. 1 midterm and 1 final, if you do better on the final he counts that 100%, extra credit for final too (9 points). For the exam I literally just memorized all the artworks (50ish per test), read the powerpoint on BB. Beyond an easy A.
Very intelligent guy. He has a lot to teach. Participation counts and he will make you talk. One-page papers almost every week. Final paper (8-10 pages) and final presentation. Lots and lots of reading, and group discussions. was an okay class.
Firstly- hardly read book for class, but now that it's summer I'm cracking it open and it's really good. Props, Prof. Lectures VERY info heavy, makes studying hard, but worth it for that A. Almost no work besides for tests, the class can really help foster (redundant I know) architectural appreciation. Would recommend for the closeted Baruch artist
He's actually a really good professor. His voice is monotoned and (I'm not so interested in art history so) the class is kinda boring. He does crack occasional jokes here and there which wakes up the class. We had 2 midterms and 1 final. though he did say that he's gonna count each one for 33%, he ended up choosing the higher score for my grade
Although his voice is monotone, he still cracks in a couple of jokes. Study the powerpoints that he gives and you will do fine. He takes the higher grade(average of two midterms or final) as your final grade which is a blessing. If you are trying to cut class, tell your friend to sign you in and you will be fine :)
Must take professor!! Midterms weren't hard but a lot of powerpoint memorizing. He said if we are happy with our current grade in the class, our final is optional. he is a bit monotone but lecture wasn't too boring. Attendance is optional, have a friend sign u in! EASY A! oh and NO HOMEWORK. Just two midterms and final
Lectures are interesting, while there is a lot of artwork, terms to remember it could be done if you take notes during and after class. Drops midterm if you get above 90 on the final. There is a essay too. Can't skip class because he makes you write your name for attendance.
Honestly, if you are looking for an easy class, then look for something else. He's a great professor and he does his best to make the content engaging. But the sheer amount of content that is taught on a class-by-class basis makes the finals and midterms significantly harder than they really should be. The final is 50% while the midterm is 40%.
I've taken him twice. He's a fair grader, but NOT an easy professor, and you have to be prepared to learn A LOT. Pay attention, take notes, and review, review, review. If you won't have time, his class isn't for you. He's passionate about what he teaches, and personally I walked away from this class with a MUCH greater appreciation for the topic.
His class is very lecture heavy and his slides do not contain the information he will test you on. If you take this class, be prepared to not fall asleep and pay attention. If you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere
I took this for Modern Architecture, and it was the best class I have taken all semester. Great class and the best professor at Baruch. If you love architecture you will learn so much. He is also hilarious and will make you laugh during class. Easy grader and his class consists of two tests. If you do bad on the first one, he drops it
The exams are based on the lectures and powerpoints, and there is a lot of memorization required for the exams. As long as you memorize most of the information from class, the exams will actually seem pretty easy. The lectures can get a little boring, but pay attention because it will help on the exams.
An absolute gem of a professor. Baruch is lucky to have him. Incredibly well spoken, sharp, witty and likable. Lectures go into great depth and will cover many subjects. 100% recommend his modern architecture course.
This class is much more difficult than it should be. He's very monotonous and asks for too much info to be memorized, but if you pay attention in every class you'll do well. He drops your lower grade and is a pretty fair teacher, but this class was more stressful than it should've been. Asks to memorize all paintings, with artist, time, and country
A lot of information was needed for the midterm and final but honestly if he spends more than 3 minutes on a work of art than it will be on any test. Each test only had 6 or so artworks out of like 100 something so pick the ones that he spend a lot of time on. He also drops your midterm if you got an A-/A on the final, fun class too
Best professor out there. He is very straightforward with everything. His exams are pretty easy if you study for them. Literally almost everyone got A's for his midterm. For his final if you get any form of A's (A+, A, A-), You will get an A for an overall grade for the course, and he will drop the midterm grade.
Participate, have good attendance, and pay attention in class like a student and I will guarantee you will get an A. Very respectable professor.
Attendance is mandatory because he has a sign-in sheet. He makes a lot of jokes and tries to make the material engaging even though it is boring. His tests are easy, just take good notes. Extra Credit. Textbook not mandatory; and he post slides online. He is an easy-going guy and the class was interesting.
Love this professor. Show up, do the work (easy blog, final paper, selected ENJOYABLE readings) and it would be silly if you get less than an A. Though the readings are not tested on, I would be sure to do them early, because our final paper was related to the readings, and you don't want to be playing catch-up at the end of the semester aka finals
He is freaking AMAZING, super funny, and actually challenges you! That being said I am really good at history and memorizing dates, so it wasn't really that hard to get an A. The midterm and final can be rough if you don't study (there are hundreds of artworks that we learn about and you have to be able to identity them w/date, artist, location).
Everything you'll need for the class is in the powerpoints and lectures, so you have to be in class. Overall his lectures get kinda boring but he sprinkles in a lil humor. He's a very fair grader even if we were only graded on a midterm and a final, and he gave extra credit at the end of the sem. If you have to take this class, take this prof
If you have to skip a textbook this semester, this is the one. He admits its more supplemental. Because of COVID our midterm and final we're changed to papers which I think I benefitted from. Everything is based on the lecture and powerpoints, so show up, pay attention, and take notes. Start memorizing art names, artists, dates, and locations ASAP!
Art history is already a boring class and his monotone voice isn't helping. Only grades based on the three tests. Presentations were super wordy but you really have to pay attention in order to draw out the good notes. It isn't hard but you really have to study in order to pass.
Take this class!! The professor makes it so so so interesting and he genuinely cares about what he does and it shows in his lectures. There are two midterms and a final but if you show up and pay attention you will do fine on the exams. I took the class online so textbooks were not necessary. Great, nice, and caring professor!!
Very boring prof, BUT his tests are so easy, no homework at all. I didn't read the textbook and it didn't matter. Puts everything that's important on slides and that's all you need. If you didn't show up to lectures and just studied from those, you'd pass. Very nice, chill man, monotone aside. Will happily answer any questions after lectures. I rec
Great professor. Although he's extremely monotone, he throws in some jokes here and there and it brightens up the class a little bit. Everything on the test come from his lectures, so as long as you take notes, you'll be good. Loved his class, it was super enjoyable and informative
Professor Maciuika has been one of the most understanding professors this semester. He produces a great teaching environment as well area for discussion. Additionally, his exams are based heavily on lectures. You are guaranteed to do well if you study them thoroughly. He also throws in some humor here and there.
All you have to do is look at the PowerPoints and watch the assigned videos and you will easily get a 90+ on every test. Overall John is an amazing professor and if you are looking for an easy A I highly recommend taking ART 1011 with him.
This guy makes makes you WORK. couldn't imagine taking this class in person. plus he is the most monotone, boring teacher i've ever had. never really used a textbook. he is a very nice guy though. if you aren't interested in art, DON'T take this class... trust me.
He's a very good professor and loves the topics he teaches. There are few grades, only the midterms, final exam, and attendance. He is a little monotone but if you pay attention you are pretty much set for an A.
Good professor, but definitely get ready to take a lot of notes and pay attention to his lectures. A lot of reading through his slides.
Professor Maciuika's teaching style is interesting. He takes up the lecture time flipping through Powerpoints (60-130 slides each) you should be taking notes from. The only things you're graded on is three tests (two midterms & the final) but the amount of artworks and moments in history that you're expected to remember for each test is a lot.
This professor is really nice, understanding, and respectful. I enjoyed being in his class, and he was passionate about the subject so he made students interested as well. Not a difficult class at all as long as you pay good attention and take notes every lecture.
ONLY TAKE IF THE COURSE IS ONLINE! Theres no homework so your grade is just 3 tests (2 midterms and a final) there given 1 each month. Once you take a test on certain material you can forget it as the next tests dont include previous material. You can take the tests easily by studying the PowerPoints however its a lot of material so take notes
This professor made me extremely interested in art which speaks volume considering I once found it a boring subject. Not only are his lectures full on clear information, he doesn't burden you with workload which makes it easier to study for his exams.
tbh he is a nice professor if you pay attention to class and memorize slides you will be fine but way too much to memorize and he talks very slow so hard to understand. and worst part is it's only based on 3 things midterm 1 paper and final so if you do bad in any of these it would be hard to pass and he don't curve the grade.
he has a very monotonous voice that makes his lectures very boring, I can't lie I always sleep in his class and he doesn't care, but no homework. His midterms are based on the important things he highlights in his presentations which you can get access to online
He's a chill guy who knows his stuff about art. Only a midterm, a paper, and the final. No homework, but make sure to take notes and review the power points. He pays more attention to the stuff that's highlighted. He has a monotone voice and the class will drag because he stays talking about one thing for 20 minutes, but the class isn't that bad.
He's a funny guy and he genuinely enjoys art history. He is great at teaching and the tests aren't bad but studying is vital and will yield great grades. Lectures aren't too important because slides are on blackboard and studying off them is a breeze.
Professor Macluika is very passionate about his job and teaching, he tries his best to make the lectures interesting and funny. It's easy to breeze through the lectures or fall asleep, but if you take notes and pay attention it saves you a lot of time when studying. There are only 3 grades in the class but very straightforward midterm/final.
lectures are long but he makes them interesting. 4 quizzes but no tests + 1 project museum essay (easy). changed the final from in-person MCQ to take-home essay based on his power points. gives extra credit on every quiz. he knows everything he's teaching, very enthusiastic. it's an easy class. more than 2 absences= he drops you from his class
Very nice man, would take again. Easy midterm, easy final (not cumulative), all you need to know is in the slides and the exams are based on vocabulary words. No quizzes, No homework, one project with multiple parts but extremely easy and gives an abundance of time to complete. Highly recommend
He made me in love with ART!! Has to be one of the best professors ever
All I can say is HE'S THE GOAT!!
He is a great, caring, and kind professor. You'll learn a lot during his lectures and are very important if you want to pass. His quizzes get harder and harder each time. There are a total of 5 quizzes, one paper to submit, and a final exam. Each quiz should have a huge study guide but the quiz has 10 questions with 2 extra credit. Do take him!!
His lectures can be quite boring since he has a monotone voice. There are 5 quizzes, (no tests) and he drops the lowest grade of the 5. He also gives extra credit assignments which helps boosts your grade. Take his class, he's an amazing and funny prof & very passionate about his job.
He is a chill professor, loves his work. Your grade depends on you, if you do the work this course is an easy A.
His lectures are one of the best experiences from this class. Very broadened. There's one fun paper to write and 5 quizzes + final (depending on the professor). Stay on top of note takings for every lecture and you will ace the quizzes. I highly recommend Professor. Maciuika!
He is a good guy, but attendance is mandatory and each quiz is 15% of your grade. There is also a final paper that requires you to make a draft, get it edited by a classmate, and then submit a final grade. Especially if you have no interest in art (this was a required course to graduate) this class is a ton of work for a level-1000 course.
If you have a chance to take this professor, DO NOT PASS ON HIM. He is amazing. There are quizzes based on every topic he gives extra credit on everything. He's so funny and isn't boring which is pretty rare considering the length of art history PowerPoints. There is also one paper, relatively easy, my class was able to skip the final if we wanted.
He's a great professor, but it's just a bunch of busy work. Also attendance is mandatory.
Such a nice prof! I found the class super interesting. He uses slides to show artwork and talk about everything. The things you should know are in 'wasabi green' which was super useful. Gave out a study guide before each quiz which was nice. No final but instead a final paper project you work on throughout the semester. Cannot recommend enough!!!
Is he a bad professor? No. Is he as easy of an A as everyone is making him seem? No. Honestly he is a chill prof but as someone who couldn't care less about art or studying for this class it was a bit much for a 1000 level elective course IMO, just 4quizzes and 1essay so it's not terrible. If your looking for an easy A, you could prolly find better
4 quizzes 20% each. semester long paper 15%, participation 5%. i made study guides with the stuff he specifically said and did well on the quizzes and participated a lot.
W professor. 4 quizzes throughout that get progressively harder. Worth 15% each. One semester-long paper(you could do it a few nights before it's due and get a good grade)that's worth 30%, and participation is 10%. Extra credit is given on each quiz, and I recommend getting high grades on the first few quizzes as they are the easiest. Not an easy A
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! He is funny & understanding, his lectures are not boring. Some of the quizzes can be hard, but he posts his slides and highlights information that will be used on the quiz which is very helpful. Definitely recommend this class.
Professor Maciuika is a chill and passionate instructor. While the class requires work, his engaging lectures and helpful study tools like unstuckstudy make it manageable. If you stay on top of the quizzes and paper, it's an easy A.
The class itself isn't hard however for a beginner's course it does require a lot of work. There is 4 quizzes which gets harder as you progress and a paper that is due at the end of the semester. He is willing to accommodate so reach out if you have any conflicts in schedule etc. He gives extra credit for every quiz so take advantage of it!
