I think that he is a very fair professor and he likes to see his students pass and gives them many opportunities to do it. A doable A!

Notes come straight off the overhead, class isn't real exciting (especially at 8AM), but studying is the only way to do well, can't BS this class...I tried. Guy is nice as hell, but a tad boring.

tests are pretty challenging, but if you study you'll do well. he gives you all the notes over powerpoint and says that his tests come from lecture rather than the book. you can earn up to 20 pts. in extra credit.Abstracts aren't difficult. Easy 5pts.

Nice teacher, course is well thought out and straight forward. Don't talk in class and take lots of notes. Attendence is important because the tests are on lectures.

One of the easiest classes you can take. all you have to do is go to class and take notes and you will get As or Bs on exams. I learned so much. Grades other than exams are so easy for you to get an A.

He was a good teacher, and he gives out extra credits that aren't hard. There's no homework a little reading but mostly note taking. The tests can be hard but just study or go to him for some help.

This seems to be an easy class at first but make sure you go to class or you may fall behind. Lots of extra credit, no hw, tests are kind of tricky. Nice professor even though lectures tend to be boring. Lets class out early everyday

Tests are kinda tricky for a 100 level course. Didnt go to class much, but when I did I had trouble staying awake. No attendance policy and lots of extra credit opportunities make it worth taking though.

his tests are NOT hard, unless your a moron. Doc is a great teacher, he may be a bit dry and oldschool, but he's fair and knows his stuff. If you care about TV and electronic media and want to learn, Doc is the teacher for you.

Take this class! he is very easy. IF you are having trouble with test grades he gives 5 extra credits out to pull it up and each one is worth 5 points. You can't fail this class unless your lazy and don't study that's it. The lectures are really intesting too you should try it.

Nice guy, is very concise and helpful. Sometimes the class is insanely boring though and he can ask some trivial questions on tests but he seems to always give curve points.

He is a great man. It seems impossible that anyone wouldn't like him. Tests are multiple choice and the 4 one-page papers are almost a guaranteed 100%. He is nice and willing to help students out. Easy extra credit is awarded. Don't be lazy and you will get an A.

You'll need some caffeine before attending this class. If your good with tests then you'll have no problems. I hardly attended class and got a C. Theres only 4 1 page papers. Tests are like 85% of your grade though.

He was cool. The class wasn't hard. i'd have done 10 times better if i had actually studied. You dont really need to read form the book though. Most of the tests are on the lectures. Just make sure you GO to class or else you'll be in trouble. But hes not too bad. take him for a gen ed or whatever.

This teacher's class was not too difficult. If you study for the tests you will be fine, and there are plenty of extra credit opportunities. As long as you do the work, study and show up to class, you should do well.

How could you not like him? He's a really nice and mellow person. He also explains things very clearly. I think the class is interesting. I guess it depends on preference. Overall, he's a good guy.

What a gnarly guy. If you know your notes, which he gives you as a printed pwrpt, you'll do very well. YAY GRUMBLE PTS! He's my kind of teacher, doesn't know or care about my name, only knows me by seat number! Funny at times too. Unlike other classes, this class actually has substance. MUST TAKE!

Do not take this class if you are not an EMF major. There's no point. He's a great professor and all, but the tests count for everything. If you don't have time to study, forget about a good grade. Like everyone else said, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! Everything is based on lecture notes, come to class!

grading consists of 4 exams, 4 1-2 page papers. option for extra credit at 2 seminars and 2 extra papers. as long as you study for the exams its fairly easy to pass them, mostly straight forward. final exam is cummulative-it covers EVERYTHING. counts attendence and lateness.

VERY interesting! I liked the topics a lot, even though its on the economic principles of broadcast which I don't like very much but he makes it interesting. If you can't retain information I'd recommend studying though cause there's a lot to remember, but there is PLENTY of extra credit.

The Tests su su suck... but everything else is easy. This guy doesn't care... he won't even know your name.. just your seat number. Not a hard class.

Easy class as the tests come straight from your powerpoint slides. Just look over the slides carefully and you will do well. Offers lots of extra credit points, and reviews before each test. Dont spend money on the book as it isn't needed.

Classes are pretty simple, just come and listen to lectures and then study the powerpoint slides from the course packet. The book he wants you to buy is waste of a $100, never used it once. Everything on the tests comes from the $26 course packet, and all the power point slides are there too. Class may be boring for those who have it at 8am.

pretty easy class overall, you get 25 extra credit points so you don't have to worry too much about exam grades. He gives you the notes ahead of time and explains them during lecture. takes attendance, but it doesn't really affect your grade. Take this class, it's one of the easiest ones you can take!

DONT BUT THE BOOK - just the packet. All lectures are on slides and you need the packet to follow along cause he goes to fast to copy. Extremely boring, but just attend class, takes good notes and study them and you'll do fine. Material is somewhat interesting but mostly boring and "who gives a crap" stuff.

Dont Buy the Book, Just buy the packet. Alot of people say hes really boring but if u just pay attention youll be fine, his tests are average and he gives 4 one page summary homework assigments that hes SUPER leniant on and he gives a load of extra credit.

Dropped this class 1 time bc I never came (8am class) and therefore failed the tests. The 2nd time I actually showed up and it was super easy. If you are there at the lectures, the exams are incredibly easy. Seems kinda stern as most old professors do, but actually a nice guy.

Tricky, Tricky! Questions on tests are not always gone over in class or in his book. Lots of oppurtunities for extra credit, but watch out for the exams.

He made it relatively interesting. Dont take it at 8am if you can help it. He's really sweet in a grandpa sort of way. You don't really need to go to class if you have a friend that went. His packets contain most of what you'll ever need know. Dont take it for an easy gen ed. If you have no interest in the topic, you will die.

Very nice guy..Curves tests and always gives extra points because he knows were all lazy college students who dont study as much as they should. Lectures are kind of boring but attendance is not mandatory except for tests

Yo i dont know how anyone can give this guy a bad review, he gives a lot of extra credit, and lots of grumble points for tests. He's also a nice guy, and lets us go early every single class. For the final, he is giving us an automatic 50 points to start. Highly recommend having him as a professor

Prof MacKerron is probably the best teacher I have met since I have been here. He is a good teacher and very reasonable. Gives you free points on tests that are already easy enough. i never opened the text book one time. you dont have to go if dont want because the slides are all on blackboard for you. Highly recommended.

he's really nice and actually pretty funny too.. just a really boring class. attendance is not mandatory and it's amazing.. just study the powerpoint's online for tests. he also tapes his lectures and posts them on black board, so you really don't even need to go to class. i went maybe 4 or 5 times and i have a b.

He's a decent teacher. Speaks in a monotones, makes semi-lame jokes. However, his lectures are really easy to follow. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I'd go to class. He gives extra credit for missing less then four classes. Exams are 50 multiple choice. All the questions come from the power points - DO NOT BUY THE BOOK! NOT NEEDED!!!!!!!!!

I had him last year and attendance was not mandatory so he might have changed that. The tests were hard, you will have to study a lot, the material is incredibly boring, but he is super nice and will most likey let you take the final with any of his sections. He also curves exams! I suggests you take him. PS Do not buy the book! You don't need it!!

MacKerron is AMAZING! he's really funny, into his work and tries to make it as relateable for us as possible. He makes a lot of notes but theyre helpful& whatever you miss he has a online lecture with guided powerpoint! All you need to do is show up, do a few minor papers & study for the 3 exams & your golden

Awesome teacher. I wanted to take another class with him, but it didn't fit into my schedule. He is really nice and so helpful. This class requires a lot of studying and note taking. It's not an easy A course. You really have to know the material. Mackerron does a good job teaching it. I learned a lot. Definitely recommend taking him.

MacKerron is a nice guy and a good teacher. Lectures are taught through powerpoints and easy to follow. Although some of the material can be a bit dry, he did his best to make it interesting. You do not need the textbook. I never opened mine. Overall good class; I have no complaints. My advice: take good notes. Test comes staight from notes.

I took this online as a gen ed, with no interest in film. The course was well organized and easy to follow. All lectures are videos of him posted and easy to understand. Tests are given a review sheet. A couple 1 page easy assignments. I would take him again, even if it's just a gen ed credit. Didn't even buy text. Dont need.

This was an online class that was very easy. Total grade consisted of a TV week or career in EMF paper, 4 one page abstracts of brief articles, a midterm, and a final. Very easy class. Not necessary to use outside sources or APA when writing the TV week paper. Also, he's an easy grader and the tests have study guides and are easy too.

This class was super easy, but coming from having no interest in film, it was boring! There are a lot of long lectures to watch, and you have to watch them to do well. If you watch them and take notes though, you should have no problem getting an A. Professor MacKerron was very helpful with any questions, and he always responded quickly to emails.

Took his online course. He's an excellent instructor who's willing to go the extra mile to help you. Great communicator when you have questions or concerns. Very clear on the syllabus and when assignments are due. His assignments are fun and interesting. His lectures are kind of boring but pay attention to them and you shouldn't have a problem.

Professor John MacKerron is a good instructor and Yes he doesn't give A's. However, he is a excellent instructor who was a mentor to me. I actually went on to graduate with my Bachelor's of Science degree in Mass Communications.
