Really knows what he's talking about, interesting lectures, hard tests

great lecture, keeps your attention, expects a lot of his students
He's got it all...interesting lectures and good looks
Was awsome. Made me change my major. Brilliant
brilliant, energized teacher, exams intense
Energized and Knows Topic, Expects alot on exams, lots of girls in his class!!
He is so smart and knows everything you could possibly ask him!!
intresting lectures, will keep you awake, know his material, pretty easy grader
Rambles like a machine, can be funny, never stays on track with thoughts.
teaches with energy, knows what hes talking about! Study & you'll do fine!
Lots of interesting details but I never knew what would be on the test. Nice guy
great prof, full of enthusiasm, keeps u interested during lectures, tough tests
knows a lot of information, STUDY for his exams!
learn a lot, hard tests, be sure to study, cliff's notes may help
MANCINI IS GREAT. SUPER FUNNY. LOTS OF GREAT STORIES. JUST STUDY AND DON'T SLACK
Great teacher. Made history very interesting. Reading selection was really good
Worst class I ever experienced. Do not take your freshman year, he made fun of me for being young, which probably is why I didn't understand his ramblings. He tries to convince you to believe in his opinions (about politics and so forth) Tests and quizzes
Teaches the course like it is an upper level. It's a gen ed!
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS...HE IS HORRIBLE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IS ON THE TEST..INTERESTING LECTURES THOUGH
He is very into history and has interesting lectures... BUT he rambles a ton - the notes are all over the place - he is kinda wierd - and in no way hot at all - he has his head up his own butt and thinks hes the man - he looks like william shakespeare
Classes are very interesting. Don't get scared the first week you have him. Just pay attention, read the book, and you'll learn a lot about history. His lectures are so interesting you feel like you really know the people he talks about.
Not a bad class. He appears to be harder than he really is. One midterm and a final and a few quizes on books. Very into history but if you pay attention and take notes you will be fine!
Good teacher- 2 tests, 4-5 quizzes on books. Lots of reading, but you learn alot
A fairly difficult class, but you learn SO much. He knows and cares about what he teaches. You definitally have to show up for lectures and take notes, though.
This man is crazy! He teaches like it is the onl class you will ever take! I thought my hand was going to fall off from taking so many notes!
SOO MANY NOTES, rambles all class, hard to keep notes organized. very interesting lectures, funny man ( sometiems real serious) tests are hard, alot of reading required
Easy class. Midterm and final - he gives you options (e.g. identify 4 out of 8, etc..) We had 3 quizzes on 3 dif books. He *said* the quizzes are 25%, but I failed all quizzes, got 2 B's on tests and got a B+ for the course. Show up and TAKE NOTES!!!!
Very good professor for HIST 145, wish I had him for HIST 146 as well. although he yells all during class this technique keeps you awake and participating in lectures. I would reccomend his courses to any new-coming History major !
Really good teacher and passionate about what he has to say. You must study and know everything for the tests. Read 3 books and quiz on all of them. i'd recommend him!
stay away!if you love to read 400 page novels with quizzes on them about details you can't even remember, and just hear him lecture and talk about how smart he is and have tests that are on stuff he barely covers then take him!
HORRIBLE! His tests are essays & he expects you to write every detail, as if you lived through it, even if hes never taught it. 4 huge, useless, boring novels to read. Makes you spend money on books u wont even use.
He screams instead of leturing. Huge books you never use. No matter how hard you try nothing you write is ever good enough. Worked my tail off to get a B. Personally he seemed nice and passionate about Music History, but bad teacher.
He is difficult, but you will learn a lot. He yells a lot in class and easily gets off track, but he really knows & loves what he is talking about. You will learn a lot and if you pay attention you will be fine.
Midterm and final are all essays but he gives you the topics to choose from. I did pretty well by studying half plus one of the topics and really knowing it well. Write a practice essay before you go to class so you can finish in the time period.
He is hard. Midterm and Final are short answer identifications and essay questions. His questions are very hard. You have to study VERY VERY VERY HARD.
this man should be fired! he sucks!
WAY too much information to remember! Exams are all essays, such as: "Tell me everything you know about southern reconstruction." If you don't give him everything he said and then some, you WILL get a C at best.
he is a good teacher. he only gives two test so you really need to study. i his really interested in what he is talking about; he does jump around a lot and tells corny jokes but keeps it interesting. take him. i took eldridge last semester and failed, and now am passing this time around w/ a B+
His lectures are really entertaining, but hard to take notes from. He jumps around a lot and goes on tangents. You gotta read along in the text outside of class. He's a lot of fun, but there are only 2 tests and they're thorough. The more you write the better you'll do.
he is a great teacher. he makes history interesting.midterm and final are cumulative but hard, have to study alot. no essays and gives two books for outside reading but doesnt quiz on them. watch a few videos too.
Awesome class! I suggest you take it during minimester! Interesting sujbect and good stories. Only one paper which is pretty easy and two tests also very easy! Good looking in that eccentric musician way.
Fun great prof. you will learn a lot
When I took him for Roots of Rock and Roll, I got a B. I didn't think he was that bad. His tests were 50% lecture, %50 books. I think he is a harder grader now though.
Goes on crazy tangents, very passoniate about history. Take lots and lots of notes. His tests mach his teaching style. Midterm and Final... both essay -blue book tests, Never miss class...
he is loud. but he knows what he's talking about. doesnt test from lectures, mostly from book which is frustrating. additionally, he is so sexy. i am not joking you.
Use your online resources from the texts he gives you (practice essays and whatnot.) They helped me a lot for my exams. Go to class and take a lot of notes. He gets frustrated when no one is writing down what he says and dislikes distractions.
Amazing teacher, knows US history better than anyone i know. All you need to get an A or B is to go to class and take notes. mid term and final with a book quiz is all the grades he gives. Take him.
He is very knowledgable about the subject but teaches at way too high a level for a 100 level class. Very detail oriented midterm and final. If you love history then he's ok otherwise I wouldnt recommend.
I am a history major and what I can say about this class, is even though he is very knowlegable about US History, it is A GEN-ED LEVEL HISTORY COURSE!!! WAAAYYY TOO MUCH DETAIL!!! I liked the course for the most part, but again, the tests are like his lectures, long and VERY detailed oriented. All I know is, I'll never take another class with him.
knows his history but lectures are long and sometimes goes off onto different topics. Hard to take notes from....expects you to write everything down. I left class w/ 3-4 pages of notes a class. Only two test and a quiz here and there...a lot of reading, keep up with it for a good grade.
tons of info, tests are pretty hard, but he's pretty much the coolest guy ever
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!...if you think that "Roots of Rock" is going to be a walk in the park-You made the same mistake as me. Lectures are very L-O-N-G and often go on to no point or purpose. Tests are very hard (cover too much info) and the Final is CUMULATIVE!!! (about 25 pgs lecture notes)-nice guy though, but class should be pass/fail
Great hair. Knows his stuff -- and then some. Glad to help you on class and other issues as well. TOUGH GRADER. He expects you to know your material. You will work hard for a B, break your neck for an A.
Very hard class, a ton of information and detail. No matter what he tells you, both of his tests are essay tests. My hand was basically smoking by the time I left class from the 3-4 or 5 pages of notes I took every class. And hes freakin crazy, very enthusiastic but not so much in a good way.
He's GREAT. Extremely interesting, knowledgeable, cool guy. Beware, though--he doesn't suffer fools gladly! Very talented musician, handsome guy.
Wow this guy made my head hurt. His lectures are non-stop for the entire class, and when you come away from the room you will have absorbed NOTHING as he jumps around from century to century on a pogo stick. He is the COOLEST old dude ever, but he just is not in my opinion a good teacher.
Extremely knowledgable about his subject. Makes US History more interesting than any other teacher I've had on the subject. Provides a good background for everything that sets up the US for the modern day and can keep you awake with his loud voice and interesting side stories, although I'm a history major so it may not be interesting to you.

So...I came from a high school that was like Harvard...everything else is easy. I think his tests are easy, you just have to do the work. He is an amazingly brilliant teacher. YES, he does jump around a lot, which keeps things interesting. Be prepared to take lots of notes...and yes, work, study...but that's what we're in school to do, right?
unfortunately i had to drop this class b/c i was misinformed by one of his former students that his tests are on nothing he goes over in class. THEY ARE. He does jump around a lot, but he knows what hes talking about and if you got to every class and take his 3-4 pages of notes you'll get it. Wish I had stayed!
i thought the class was going to be really hard considering he does jump around from subject to subject, and you do take a lot of notes but the midterm and final were so easy. he gives you choices to choose from. he doesnt make you write any papers either. i would def take him again
interesting guy, very funny and extremely knowledgable. lectures all class and wants you to remember specifics. midterm and final only, must pay attention in lecture and textbook. a lot of studying and facts to remember if you are willing. do not take if you are lazy or don't know much about history already.
ug this guy is BORING. if you dont really really really like history, i wouldn't take him because you'll never be able to remember everything he tells you after his endless lectures.
VERY EASY AND OUTGOING TEACHER. I HATE ENGLISH YET I REFUSE TO MISS HIS CLASS. HE GOES ON MYSPACE AND LISTENS TO BANDS THE FIRST 15 MINS OF CLASS. ABOUT THREE 4 PG PAPERS A SEMESTER AND A FEW 2 PG PAPERS. OVERALL EASY AND FUN CLASS! he's young too =]
Took him FA06, and I must say, he's pretty easy. Only three 4 page papers, and about four 2 page papers. Always assigned short stories to read every night, but he doesnt know if you read them or not! No Final! Class is extra boring, but its a breeze! You'll pull your hair out trying to stay awake, but its an easy A!
If you are looking for an easy A, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Extremely difficult, and pulls grades out of his butt. Only 2 tests...you need to know EVERY little detail to get a decent grade. Although he knows lot about history, he jumps around a lot and is sometimes confusing.
This course wasn't too difficult, just a lot of information!! I didn't use my book, but I took a lot of notes and never missed a class. There are some outside readings but they aren't very difficult if you give yourself enough time to read them. He does jump all over the place when lectureing, but he's just trying to tie things together.
I loved this class, the material was fascinating and if you ever have the chance, I suggest taking this course. Since he is a professional lecturer you MUST take notes and he is easily sidetracked. Other than that, he is awesome and I would take another class with him no question.
If you aren't crazy about History, you'll do ok and it will be hard. He is a nice guy and makes it fun, he does jump around though. Only had 2 tests which made it stressful at times. I went to every class; he said he would do attendance every class but he didn't.
He was a good professor. He gave a lot of notes that was helpful indeed.
He is sometimes hard to keep up with in class. I recomend not falling aslleep because you can miss a lot. I would get the books so you can understand some of the things he talks about. He rambles so pick the right things to write down.
Very passionate teacher who definitely knows EVERYTHING about history. You can't not respect this genius. You should go to every class or else you will be completely lost. Only had two tests which you NEED to study for or you will definitely fail. You should take him if you're interested in history because you will learn A LOT.
Whether or not you like History you cant help but be fascinated with this class. He is very passionate about class and you will learn things your highschool never taught you. If you have the chance to take a good gened he is the teacher for it. Also teaches History of Rock'N Roll in the United States. Cool teacher.
This class was tough because it was so huge, but he was a reasonable prof. He couldn't take attendence because there were 120 of us, but he still had a good idea of who showed up and who didn't. He only had two tests for a grade, no papers or quizes. But his tests were tough, and he expected a lot of info in a small amount of time.
Ok this man DOES NOT deserve to be called a proffessor. He is passionate about history and he know everithing, but HE CANNNOT TEACH. You have to write down every little thing he says, but he jumps up and down throughout history..... is crazzy, and it only confusses you. ONLY 2 EXAMS, midterm and final, he is just lazzy.. BEWARE, AVOID HIM!!!!
Every class we watched random movies on music artists he enjoyed. The movies had nothing to do with English. The class was very boring and he was unclear on all of the assignments. When it came to grades he never returned the final grade. Would not take him again.
This is my all time favorite teacher, when he showed a movie in class I was dissaappointed, although it is a lot of information it is all so interesting. Before I came to this class I was not interested in history and now I ask him all kinds of questions because he makes it so clear. Awesome teacher, take this class
Don't know what these other people are talking about. I enjoy his assignments, whether they are for reading or writing. I have yet to come across a particularly hard assignment, but (for my class, anyway) this is your basic 102 English. He's laid back in a good way. He's young, hot-- that doesn't hurt. Good class.
hes a pretty funny guy who relates his random stories to the text. Only got 2 tests one fo midterm n one fo final. I studied hard fo da midterm n i got a low B. This class teaches me how to take notes betta. u gota write everything he says n read da text if u want to pass. a good professor but i wouldnt take him again...
Had him for Roots of Rock n Roll, by far best class at Towson, great teacher if you can see big picture stuff, probably not good for 1st time freshmen, tests easy, really nice, full of information, and enthusiastic, "wash, rinse, repeat"
Very Very intelligent and intirguing man when it comes to History. Can't help but be a little interested. I hated history, but still enjoyed the class. Always willing to help you with your grade and overal, a nice guy. Recommend for 2nd sem freshman so your more in the hang of just listening and taking note. Overall, nice, genuine guy
The class takes a lot of notes and reading. You should come to class because you need to write down everything, but most of the time half of what he says will not be on any test. Good teacher, funny, but when class attendance is low he assigns pop quizzes so read and show up.
Dont take this teacher unless you want to be extremely stressed. He doesn't help you at all, tests are way out there and his grading is ridiculous, doesn't explain what is required. Lowest grade ive gotten in college. BAD
EASIEST CLASS EVER!! 2 4-page papers, 2 2-page papers, NO MIDTERM OR FINAL!! Short Stories assigned every night for homework, but he wouldn't know if you read them or not. Easy A or B class..depends on your level of writing
Books weren't used once. He made up the class and graded very hard. Interesting guy but an awful teacher, it was a bad experience.
No relation to English what so ever. Makes you watch pointless movies. Learned absolutely nothing. One time he made us cut up one of our papers we had written and match the lines up differently to make funny sentences. He'll yell at you for talking and not paying attention even though theres nothing to pay attention to. Major creep.
I liked Mancini, but can easily see why people would think he's a D-bag. Relies heavily on class notes. Bring your laptop and play stenogropher for the semester. Very knowledgeable.
he is really smart but such a bad professor! He goes too fast, doesnt let you ask questions, and has no coherent organization in his lecture. He jumps back and forth between decades, etc... WORST OF ALL, MY CLASS WAS HIST OF ROCK, AND WE DIDNT LEARN ABOUT ROCK AT ALL!! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE MISERABLE
are people seriously complaining about this professor? this is a gened, and Mancini basically calls this course the grammar police course. no need to do the readings, he ends up reading them to you in class. watch lots of movies and he can make everything relate to drug trips it seems. he's absent-mindedness makes the boredom somewhat humorous.
He's really smart-but not a good teacher. you have to know a lot of stuff before you take this class or you will never catch up. he jumps around a lot, no organization. you can tell he knows a lot about the subject, he just needs to learn how to convey it better. overall-OK class. he is super young & adorable, and he is in a band so that's a plus!
He seems to know something about the topic but doesn't actually teach you anything. Most of class is spent either watching a random movie or reading what the textbook says. If you already know how to write short stories before the class, you'll do fine, if you don't, don't expect to learn how to here.
He is a nice guy and is extremely intelligent. He knows what he is talking about but is not very helpful. He pretty much lectures and you write everything down. He doesn't stop to allow you to ask questions and jumps around a lot. You pretty much have two grades, midterm and final. Nice guy, but very confusing.
Doctor Mancini is a good professor. This is the breakdown for Hist 145(2 exams, and maybe a quiz). The books weren't even used; all of the material comes from the lecture notes. He lectures freely and I'd suggest to bring a laptop. When he lectures - you are there at that time and place in history. Dr. Mancini's a good guy.
everything is easy about this class! easy grading. easy a or b! take him he's awesome!
This class was the biggest waste of time and MONEY by far. The guy is useless and doesn't have much of a curriculum or set schedule for the class. If you like sitting in class bored out of your mind, than this is the class for you! He can't even finish a sentence without umming. I highly regret enrolling in this class. BORING!!!
Prof Mancini is the man in my book. He tells a story-like lecture and the only problem with the class is you have to be a good note taker. In my class the mid term turned into a take home. Made me very interested in History, highly recommended.
Mancini's class was really easy because he doesn't stick you with certain topics. Almost every assignment we were given was a free-writing topic and no papers were longer than 2 pages. Although he tended to get off topic or find a random movie that "possibly" coincided with the readings, I feel he gave timely feedback and good criticism.
Great professor. Knows the material and is extremely helpful. Very cool too. One of the best courses I've taken at Towson.
First, let's make a distinction on this site. There are two John Mancini's, one is a history professor, and the other is an English professor - EMF teacher. John Mancini (younger teacher) here was an interesting professor. He assigned random quizzes, read interesting stories, and rambled on about his band. I didn't get the point of class. Got A-
Dr. Mancini is very, very knowledgeable about even trivial parts of history, and he is more than willing to share these minute parts with the class, along with various off topic stories. The class itself is quite tough, and our grade was based merely upon two tests (the first of which was not clearly described). I would still rec. his class though.
His assignments (non-fiction literary essays for this class) were interesting, but it was often difficult to figure out what he wanted on them. The assignments were often along the lines of "Write something," and little clarification was given when asked. He also seemed to be hungover more than a few times in class. Still, it was a good class.
Dr. Mancini (the history teacher) is one of the best history teachers I've had. You have to take A LOT of notes but you will thoroughly enjoy listening to him if you have even the slightest interest in history. If you miss a day of class, consider yourself screwed because he covers A LOT very quickly.
The ratings are for two different professors. John Mancini Sr is a history professor, but I had him for "History of Rock and Roll" that ended with talking about Elvis. Also rambles a lot and goes on crazy tangents. John Mancini Jr teaches EMF classes and is not a bad guy, but also not a good professor. Overall not impressed, interesting guys though
one of the most interesting professors i have ever had. class is easy but you do take a lot of notes.. always has a funny or entertaining story to tell
seriously hardest class for a gen ed. i started studying for the final a week and a half before, i read all the 7 chapters from the book and made an outline of it and his horrible lectures...it didnt help on his exam (the questions are so hard)..get another teacher if possible
Interesting and entertaining professor, but you take a billion notes and the final and midterm were pretty difficult. Only canceled class once, but it was worth taking.
You will most likely enjoy Dr.Mancini throughout the course as he is an enthusiastic speaker and most definitely knows his history. However, all of this goes for naught when you reach his tests. He expects you to have a large enough knowledge base to be able to do his job. This is unnecessary as this is an intro course, not a 300 level.
Very interesting professor - humorous and able to make the topics interesting and fun. A lot of pressure for exams - only a mid-term and final. You need to keep up and take a lot of notes. Overall it was a good Gen-Ed choice.
This guy is pretty funny. I really like him as a teacher, but the class is all notes notes notes. and then he'll test you on stuff from the book. you never use it, but you'll get tested on it. thats annoying. but i recommend him if your willing to buy the book.
He's pretty funny and tends to talk very loud sometimes. He knows ALOT about history, both relevant and not. The tests are RIDICULOUS. The study guide was no help whatsoever and we had to cover form Marco Polo to the American Revolution WITH dates. He offered an extra credit paper at the end of the semester so that helps. Points for attendance too.
Study for the test the minute you enroll in the course. read the text book religiously !!!!
Watched a movie, wrote a paper, presented our questions to the class, rinse and repeat. That was the class. Halfway through, R. Rook took over, but it was still the same thing basically. Asks a lot of questions while you're presenting, and he graded papers pretty tough, but a generally good class.
Great Man
Great, great teacher. Very fun and gives entertaining lectures. Lots of notes, but is clear on things you must know. Overall very fun class and great professor.
Great teacher, loud, but funny. Knows what he's talking about; doesn't talk to you like you're lower than him unlike many professors.
He's a pretty cool guy. He doesn't talk down to you at all. Talks to you like a peer. He lectures everyday until the midterm and final though. Test wasn't too bad. You have to pay attention and take good notes though. Overall a nice guy.
Loved him, he was hilarous, enjoyed going to class, tests not too bad... have to study and take great notes during classs.
Interesting guy, pretty tough class for 100 level. He jumps around a lot during notes making it hard to take. Gotta go to every class because he covers so much. We had two tests and an essay. Tough grader on all of them. Requires a lot of studying and writing to pass. Didn't use textbook once, don't need it since he covers everything in class.
I thought he was a very nice professor and had a good sense of humor. Class is straight lecture. Don't need the textbook. One midterm, a book report, and non cumulative final. I thought he was a hard grader though.
One of my favorite teachers I have ever had. His enthusiasm for the subject makes every lecture very interesting, even at 9am. If you go to every class the test aren't very difficult. He is the nicest man and wants every one to succeed. TAKE HIM AS YOUR TEACHER!!!
Knows his information real well. Great professor. Mostly a lecture driven class so you take a lot of notes. The class is easy and simple.
The class is not easy unless you know or like history.Take good notes he is a good lecturer .We had 4 tests and the final exam. The textbook really helps, you have to use it to study, don't have to bring it to class
For being a history class, I really enjoyed it! Dr. Mancini actually found a way to make history interesting! His classes are strictly lectures and you need to write down every word he says to do well on his exams...We had 2 midterms and a final, all essay format. Put a lot of detail into each essay and you'll do fine!
I have no interest in history, but he made it interesting! and he made clear what was on the tests. tests were easy and straight forward! i recommend him!
He's a great guy and is very energetic when he lectures, but I struggled a lot to succeed on his tests. You REALLY have to know your history, and I have a terrible memory. His lectures also seemed to jump around a lot with dates which confused me. This class requires more effort than it should, I don't recommend him
This man KNOWS HIS HISTORY. Strictly lectures. He talks. You write. 2 midterms and 1 final. No papers. Very great teacher. You can tell he has a passion for history. Also, he makes history VERY interesting. He'll even give some historical facts no other professors will probably know. Midterms are not too hard. Just put in details.
Very good lecturer. Very intelligent too. Really knows his history. Makes history very interesting and does not speak with bias when giving out lectures. Midterms and Finals can be challenging though but he tells you what will be on it so TAKE GOOD NOTES AND READ THE TEXTBOOK.
Great professor, attend class and you'll do well. Tests are short answer ans essay questions, but if you pay attention in class you'll be fine
He is a good lecturer but his tests are impossible! I took this class as a Gen Ed and I thought it wouldn't be too bad but the tests were so hard and he gives no study guide at all for them! When you ask for help he is no help. The only grades in the entire class are the midterm and final so if you do bad your screwed. No hws, quizes or reg tests
Very difficult class for a gen ed, and I took AP US history in high school and am an honors student. Attendance isn't mandatory but go and write down every word he says. Also read the book. 3 big tests. Memorize all the info you can and hope for the best. So much work and so much is expected of you. Really nice guy though. Wouldn't recommend it.
Awful! I tried so hard to pass this class especially as it is a requirement to my major but it was terrible. Nothing but lecture. No powerpoints, etc. Also, only two exams. Midterm and final. No other assignments.
He has been teaching at Towson for what I think he said was 17 years, and he knows his history. He only lectures in class & talks fast so you need to write fast, and write everything. No powerpoints. There are only 2 quizzes, midterm, and final so you need to pay attention and study!!! He is very helpful and wants you to pass.
He knows his history, but he forgets not everyone is a history major. Who can remember every fact & date that was covered in 25 or more lectures on a midterm, (worth 35% of the grade!)? The final is 45%.What is the point of asking students to remember so much for one test? Then he gets mad if u don't do well. We have other classes to study for too!
Very nice guy but the tests were impossible to pass. Two midterms, one final.
Do not take this professor if you're not a history major. I took APUSH in HS and did well in it so I came to this class expecting an easy A.... This class makes APUSH look like child's play. You need to know exact dates of events, names of senators/generals/congressman,etc. Detail is KEY to passing this his test.
He's a great professor and knows his history! He lectures through the whole thing. There are no powerpoints, and your only grades will be the midterm, the final, and two quizzes. It's a bit difficult, but if you do the reading in the textbook and pay attention/take good notes during class you'll be fine. Try to always attend class!
best teacher i've had so far, he talks that whole time so take notes, REALLY I MEAN IT TAKE NOTES! if you do that you will be fine, he makes history fun and makes you laugh along the way. also he's cute for an older guy so it helps.
Such a funny and entertaining professor! Make sure you do the readings, but he does have a tendency to go over answers to quizzes before the quiz. All you have to do is put in the effort to study and you will get a B. He stated that an A was very hard to get in his class. If you like basic lecture classes, this is the right class.
Mancini is hard. I expected the class to be an easy A, but was not. I think there is three test and two quizzes (on the books we are suppose to read). Make sure you read the books and textbook pages he assigns.
Mancini is great! I had him for a 2 and a half hour class, and he kept me awake and entertained the whole time! He can talk pretty fast, so I recommend using a laptop to take notes. The textbook isn't necessary for class discussion, but he often tells you to look material up out of class. There are also only a few quizzes that depend on books.
Dr. Mancini is a great guy, but not the best teacher. He is very sporadic and all over the place. I had to read the textbook every single night and still couldn't keep up. He expects you to write every word down (100% lecture class) and you must know every detail for the tests. Very hard teacher.
I love Mancini! He is very personable and fun to talk too. Very hard class for someone who doesn't like history though. We only had three tests the entire year so if you blow one, your screwed. You have to be in class to learn anything though. Be nice and interact with him and you'll love him!
I LOVED this class. As a freshman I was a little nervous about taking a 389 level history course but Mancini made it so easy to be interested in the material. His lectures are long but engaging and he really knows what he is talking about. I was never bored.
Mancini is a very nice and interesting guy who clearly knows his stuff. But this class is the only C i've ever had at Towson. There is a lot expected, and he doesn't do pawerpoints, just lecture so you can't miss class. No review for exams and the only other grades were quizzes on two separate novels with minimal review. Great guy, VERY hard class
Great lecturer and really knows his subject material. Funny and an enjoyable class. There are no power points so you must go to class, but its worth going.
He's a nice guy, but a very tough grader. He's not very clear with what he wants AT ALL. There are no reviews or study guides. He tells you three days beforehand what is on the test. He has a doctorate in music so be prepared to talk a lot about music of the 60s. Lectures are very long and wordy. Come to class bc there are no powerpoints.
Dr. Mancini was an excellent professor, he was there every class and there was never a dull moment. He's an expert and knows his stuff. Made the class enjoyable with no ppt's. Lectures only 40-50 mins . Work wise, basically just take good notes and read the chapters in the textbook. The other books were great as well. Definitely take him!
His lectures are long and all he does is talk the whole time. No power-points. He seems very interested in the topic so the lectures went by fast. Tests are all short answer and fill in, but as long as you study you'll do fine. Only 4 tests and the final is not cumulative.
Mancini is a cool guy. He's funny. His lectures can feel long but he keeps it simple with interesting, relevant topics. Tests are straightforward. Maybe 3 short research papers, couple of assignments. Take thorough notes, study for tests, turn in assignments and he'll actually cut the class some slack sometimes for doing good work.
I love and hate Professor Mancini. His lectures are amazing and he makes history exciting and relatable! The reason I don't like him is because his expectations are too high for non majors. I'm an A student and I will not be getting an A because the tests are very detailed and you need to memorize all of the information from the book to pass.
He's a great lecturer, usually makes it interesting. He's such a hard grader! Oh and if he has three sections he might give one a lecture and not the other two and test everyone on it! Read the book word for word or you will fail.
Awesome guy, extremely tough. You have to read or you won't pass.
2 midterms, 1 final and 2 short easy papers on the 2 biographies. Find online outlines for the textbook chapters and use that as notes. The lectures go into more detail but you can still just learn the information from the textbook. Easy B, an A if you work for it.
I have a love hate relationship. I loved his lectures and teaching style, always made it interesting, but I had a lot of trouble on his exams. We had 3 exams, 2 midterms and a final and then 2 essays on outside reading. Highly suggest you read the textbook along with take notes. He keeps you interested just have to be very specific on the tests
Dr. Mancini's lectures are very intriguing. He presents the material in a way that really captures the attention of his students. Read the textbook to help supplement your understanding of the lectures. A portion of the exams are taking from the reading. Dr. Mancini is very understanding and is more than happy to clarify content in office hours.
You will learn a lot from Mancini but his lectures are somewhat disorganized and he goes off on a lot of tangents. His assignments are not much better. In my TSEM class we had a total of five assignments including the midterm and the final. I don't know if he changes it up each semester. The assignments were all very unclear on what to do.
Very passionate and knowledgable. Also he's pretty funny and makes his lectures interesting. Overall a great Professor.
If you want a good professor, DO NOT SELECT JOHN MANCINI. He screams at the top of his lungs the entire lecture, waits a week before projects are do to assign them, and makes fun of students who ask questions or don't know the answer. Seriously Towson? How did he slip past your filters?
His lectures are all over the place and hard to follow and take notes on. There is hardly any grades and his exams are hard. He wants you to know the whole textbook for a 100 level class.
Professor Mancini is nice and caring but so off topic in lectures and unorganized. We were so far behind and did not get to the Civil War or even close to it. He grades hard and then doesn't explain or say why he graded your papers the way he did. Lots of reading too.
Mancini's lectures are very enjoyable and you can definitely tell he loves what he does. The class isn't really that hard, as long as you show up. Barely any homework, just a small quiz on a book you read, midterm, final, and a paper on the Andrew Jackson book. Definitely worth it.
Dr. Mancini is very loud, he is passionate about history but all over the place in his lectures. His lectures are unorganized, not all of what he says is relevant. He grades REALLY hard on tests, and there aren't a lot of questions. Expect to memorize a lot of dates and not get through all of the material or assignments outlined on the syllabus.
Hes is a very nice person he was very nice to talk to, its just that he is just a very tough grader. We had a total of 4 grades at the end after the final, which were a quiz, a short 1 page essay, midterm and the final. On the syllabus it said there was supposed to be 2 book reports which we never did, so the other grades were weighted higher.
Very nice guy, horrible professor. Midterm is worth 35% of your final grade, so if you mess that up you're pretty much done for. Two essays on two books, and a final thats worth 40% of your grade. Overall the class was tough. I would not take him again.
For a 100 level class, it's much harder than it should be. Only four grades the whole semester. He grades papers very harshly. Exams are short answer and essay. Lectures are boring, no powerpoints to go off of, just him talking for 50 minutes straight. Goes off topic all the time. Nice guy, just not a good professor. Won't take him again.
the worst class I've ever taken at Towson. Theres no powerpoint, or anything to follow. He rambles and doesn't tell you what to write down .You can't pass the exams-they are fill in the blank of the most randomest questions with no word bank. The highest exam grade in my class was 46 %. then he gave a curve because everyone complained. don't take.
Attendance is "mandatory" but half the time he forgets the attendance sheet
I created this account to dissuade you from taking this professor. He is disorganized. His powerpoint's are not completed, and are full of errors, and he is often unavailable. His tests are not hard but he does not prepare you for them. Because of his disorganization, he still does not know which class I am in although finals are in 2 weeks.
The hate for Mancini is uncalled for. He is tough, because he wants you to do your best. He gives extremely amazing lectures and knows a lot. Sure, he wanders off sometimes. But its because hes trying to keep you engaged. Posts a study guide before each test. Only had 3 tests for all your grades. There is no reason why you shouldnt take Mancini.
Literally the best history teacher at Towson. You have to take him
Lectures and shows lots of videos. We only had 3 grades the entire semester, 1 quiz, 1 group project and 1 research paper. Little work, but needs to be quality.
He doesn't post power points until the exams pop up
TSEM with Professor Mancini is like going to a history museum, but instead of reading a display it's hearing him lecture. He tells great stories during his lectures and the documentaries he shows are super interesting. What he says during lectures is going to be directly on the quiz so take notes.
Lectures in TSEM are very disorganized. Syllabus is vague and he does not post any grades until the week of finals. He's kind of a pushover when it comes to due dates, likely because most of the time he puts off posting the assignments for about 2 weeks. Quizzes are hard because he forgets to cover some criteria but includes it on the quiz.
Mancini is not a bad professor by any means. He is a very engaging lecturer, but he is fairly disorganized, which leads to knowing what to study to be difficult. He had fill in the blank questions when he said it would be matching. He is unclear on assignment expectations but is an easy grader and often just gives full credit for completion.
I really liked Prof Mancini. His class is not tedious. Youre graded on a few things throughout the semester so make sure you do every assignment to the best of your ability. Take notes on what he lectures about in class and youll do well on the quizzes. Papers were easy to write.
I took Dr. Mancini for HIST 145. I am definitely not a history buff and he knows that not all students know their history. Unfortunately, this class is only three exams and one 200 word assignment, many readings as well. Make sure to attend class, he knows who is and who is not there. Dr. Mancini is an all around great guy.
Prof Mancini is an okay professor, his class is very lecture heavy to be prepared to write the entire time. His presentations are a bit disorganized and hard to follow at times, and he goes off on tangents so that can be rough. He is a nice man however, who is passionate about history. Ask for help if you need it, but don't expect a quick response.
He doesnt post grades and is pretty disorganized. Also the grading criteria isnt clear for projects. He tracks attendance and if you dont go to class youll probably fail. Hes a cool dude though, pretty chill and gives interesting lectures.
Mancini is alright. He is a little boring when lecturing at times. He is knowledgeable and very passionate. He is somewhat disorganized and does not post grades on blackboard, but the tests are pretty self explanatory. He posts study guides and slides online before tests. If you email him before the test and ask, he will give you more information
Boring lectures but seems like a nice guy. Didn't really use the textbook.
Very boring, his slides are over packed with material that is irrelevant. Gives study guides but they are the most disorganized piece of crap I've ever seen. Waste of my time, took a great topic and made me daydream.
I dont know why everyone gives this professor a hard time. Hes informative, pretty entertaining, puts all the info you need to know on powerpoints, while he talks and throws in info and sometimes goes off on interesting tangents
honestly sweetest professor I've hd very understanding and caring. Easy class if you study for the assignments. Nothing too difficult
Should not be teaching a level 100 intro course that is mandatory for most students. Does not use BB and final grade reflects that of only 3 exams, which he grades extremely tough for no reason. If you cover the bare minimum of what he asks on the tests (they are all essay based) you will get a C. He lectures for 3 hours and is so unorganized.
Ugh. He only gives out 3 grades for the semester, all exams, which is nothing short of ridiculous for an introductory level, general ed class. The lectures: dry. Mancini rambles for an hour, based off a powerpoint he threw together before class, and doesn't acknowledge questions. Does he care about the class? Take it with someone else if you can.
Professor Mancini's lectures are amazing! This is coming from someone who hates lectures. He makes things interesting and easy to understand. It's as if you're listening to an animation, you can almost see what he's talking about! Quizzes do come out of nowhere, which is annoying.. but that is my ONLY complaint! Take his class!!
Professor Mancini is brilliant! I swear you can ask him any history question and he'll know the answer! He's a walking google for history nerds. His lectures were long but he is passionate about what he teaches so its not all that boring learning about the revolutionary war for the 100th time since elementary school. only bad thing is his ppts
Very lecture based, he clearly knows history but sometimes rambles on and can get boring. Lots of reading involved, if you don't read, you'll likely struggle on exams. Definitely a lot for a 100 level course, only graded by three exams and few quizzes. If you're willing to work, you will do well, but you have to start reading day one.
Prof Mancini is a very amazing professor! He has a great class with easy work, but I actually can say I learned plenty in this class! He lectures a lot, but if you just listen you will pass. Notes and textbooks were not really needed, but I had an online class due to COVID.
Professor Mancini is a really caring and knowledgeable guy. His class was not hard and he requires few assignments. He does not grade tough and gives great feedback. I can say I actually learned a lot from him and enjoyed class! He does tend to side-track on lectures but if you just listen you will be fine. He is very flexible with assignments.
Professor Mancini was an amazing professor to take an online class for. He was very understanding about personal issue and the pandemic. He gave extra time on assignments even though he gave us a week to do them. The tests were not hard and were not timed.
Professor Mancini really cared about students and is passionate about History. I loved his class and look forward to another semester with him. The only thing is the lectures are sometimes repetitive and the grade reflected only four or five assignments. Also, we used the required textbooks twice.
really cool professor who loves his job. Would definitely take again he just talks a whole lot, but its manageable, really sweet guy, and an Easy A
Professor Mancini is a good professor. He barely assigns homework or gives out tests/quizzes. This course only included one group project and a final term paper, but there both very easy. Overall this class is an easy A.
He's nice but I didn't learn a single thing from his lectures. He knows everything about history but it's clear that his teaching style is dated and just doesn't work. My whole class collectively had the same opinion about him. You'll do fine on the tests because the study guides are clear, but DON'T BUY HIS TEXTBOOKS. Do not waste your money.
Lectures were extremely long winded and boring, but you can tell he cares about the subject. 2 midterms and a final are the bulk of your grades. Homework assignments are graded on completion, and there were only a few. Taking notes is very important because you will need to study for tests. Don't buy either of the textbooks. Easy but boring.
Super nice guy is passionate about his work, but def should not be teaching a 100 class. Goes on tangents and doesn't make what we're learning clear. Grades are only based on few things so if you fail one thing you're kinda screwed for the semester. TAKE WITH SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU CAN!!!
Literally just sent him a picture of JFK for an assignment and got 100 points. If that doesn't tell you how easy this class is I don't know what will.
Best professor. Very easy grader. Just put in a little effort and I promise you will learn a few things or have a blast taking this class.
Prof. Mancini is one of the most laid back people, let alone professors, I have ever met. He is an awesome guy and a very easy grader. His lectures are VERY boring and long, but he is the type of professor to go on interesting tangents that have nothing to do with the class. Dont let that scare you away, his tests are so easy and he prepares you.
Professor Mancini is a nice guy but he's a horrible grader all semester he had no grades in Blackboard. Additionally, his lectures are somewhat boring but you can really tell he cares about what he is lecturing about. Also, his class has 2 midterms which are most of your grade and they are pretty challenging he also has classwork but there easy.
Not a bad prof necessarily but very old school and disorganized. Never gave a true syllabus with what assignments would look like, doesn't use blackboard, and changes due dates constantly. The class is not hard but it's frustrating and hard to keep track of everything sometimes.
If you don't like history, this is going to be an extremely boring class. But if you do, and you pay attention, Professor Mancini is very passionate and knowledgeable about what he's talking about and teaches well. The tests weren't too bad as long as you were paying attention in class or at least studying a little bit.
Mancini is a very entertaining and knowledgable professor and I learned a lot throughout his very engaging lectures. However, there are very few assignments that he gives so if you do poorly on one it could mess up your entire grade. Additionally, he doesn't post grades to blackboard. Has very easy exams, if you can you should take Mancini.
Professor Mancini was great but the class was a bit boring but it was a TSEM and History course so there isn't too much to work with. He was really caring and always wanted to make sure he knew his students and if they understood content. A few little tests throughout the semester and a final 8 page paper at the end.
Honestly his lectures were boring and he was not entertaining. He had us do one homework and three "mid-term" exams. All exams were extremely hard. You could know everything about a topic and he would still say you were missing information. He did not teach everything you needed to know and it was not in the books. All tests were hand written.
Great professor, very knowledgeable and passionate about history. There are very few assignments and he doesn't upload any grades on Blackboard. Few homework assignments, 1 group project, final paper. Easy grader. Said he'd give us a midterm and never did. Don't know grade unless you ask. Sometimes material is boring but he makes it interesting!
Professor Mancini is a nice guy and understanding about attendance and due dates. I took tsem with him and the lectures seemed to drag on because he would go on tangents. The only thing I disliked about this class was the boring lectures and the 8 page final, other than that he isn't a bad professor but I wouldn't take again.
He was a great professor but he only had 5 grades for the whole semester which were 2 homeworks, 2 mid-term, and 1 final. Not only that, he didn't put grades in until the last few days of the semester. Other than that he's a great professor and his class isn't hard. His tests are just like the study guides too.
I loved Mancini for HIST145. He truly knew so much about early US history and could talk about it for hours. Sometimes went on tangents, which can be bad for some people. Two midterms, final exam, and a few small assignments. Two textbooks for the class. If you're not a history major, you may not get the same amount of enjoyment from him as I did.
Mancini can be a polarizing professor - his lectures are engaging but long-winded. The workload is manageable with two midterms and a final. Attending class is a must. Avoid the textbooks and use unstuck study AI for study prep instead.
very very long lectures. doesn't post grades until the end of the semester. very few assignments but they're all easy. he posts study guides for the midterm and final and if you use them you'll do fine
Mancini does not follow his syllabus at all. He only gave 1 midterm, a paper, and a final exam. We have no idea what our grades are and no matter how much you write (since everything is written on the exams) it's like never enough information for his liking. Feels very outdated and anxiety provoking.
If you are a visual learner, do not take this course. Do not expect the slides to follow what he is saying. The slides will be slightly on topic, but not really. They are also very wordy and difficult to read. He will give you the syllabus and not follow any of it. We were given a total of five assignments.
If you take notes you don't need to read the text book. He gives a good study guide, if you use it and use the notes you will answer the test questions to his satisfaction. I found a lot of students wanted to be lazy and not take notes. The test were all small essays that you have to handwrite the answers real easy if you have been taking notes.
BORING. Off topic constantly. does not post grades on blackboard. Closed the course on blackboard before I ever saw grades put in. Don't buy the textbooks. Just watch crash course and create quizlets to study. If you write the way he talks on your tests you will pass. Try to take this course with someone else if you can.
Got 2 textbooks for the class, barely used either of them but had to use one for an assignment. Make sure to show up to class or you'll miss important things that he won't go over again. Had 3 assignments all semester. Be ready for A LOT of writing for the midterm and final though. Tests are in person but he gives study guides.
I liked his class but its not for everyone and I wouldn't take again. You wont know what your grade is until end of semester, barely uses blackboard and is lecture heavy. Very few assignments, 1 exam and final paper. He gives great feedback though and is very kind. He goes off topic alot so take detailed notes and go to office hours.
this person sucks at his job and should quit, i hope he retires asap
He lectured like his was on stage! We had 3 assignments (including the midterm and final) and I wish we had more so I could engage with the content better, but he also forced me to take good notes. Hate history, but I liked him.
Very enthusiastic, however very lecture heavy. Like thats all we did. Make sure you take notes and study! I used one of our textbooks maybe twice and did fine. A lot of writing, both midterms and final were 100% writing and no multiple choice. Can also be disorganized at times.
