Very helpful and friendly

This guy really cares about his students.
An awesome teacher!!! Never had a better comp teacher.
Mr. Marks is an awesome, fun teacher! He has a good sense of humor, he is very helpful and he seems genuwine.
I took this class online. Very easy elective. Marks explains everything very clear. Helpful teacher.
Hard worker, excellent teacher! Really cares about his students.
Amazing Teacher!!! Try your very hardest to take his class.
If you are extremly perfect with computers then you would love this man, but if not then don't expect any sympathy from him. He counts off for every single mistake and is always too busy to help unless your his favorite. I honestly didn't learn a whole lot from him.
Mr. Marks was a very good instructor. I feel much more confident about using my computer and various software programs.
If you know your way around a computer this class is no problem at all. And mr marks is cool as long as you show up to class, turn assignments in on time, and dont ask dumb questions
John is awesome! Great teacher!! I definitely recommend him for CGS. I got an A.
Mr. Marks was a very good teacher. I learnt a lot from him, and he really cared about his students. Make sure to give him respect and he will definetely return the respect. He is very helpful and I would recommend him!
This guy was born to be a teacher. One of the best I have ever had.
This guy can be really funny MOST of the time. If you want to be given an A don't take his class. If you want to EARN an A then this is the place for you. He really works hard to help all the students be all they can be.
"Take the practice exams!!!" =Marks
He's okay. He's really has his class stuck up his butt though. He can be very helpfull when needed.
He is by far the clearest easiest to get along with teacher their is you do what you need to and you will get an A
He's okay. He has his head stuck up his butt. Picks out his favorites.
This is the worst teacher I've had in my entire life. If you stand out or have any personality or talent avoid this teacher like the plague. This is a jealous, angry, repressed individual- use caution. This man has no business in any teaching institution.
This guy is off the chain! He is well spoken, gives in-depth explanations, researches things brought up in class and emails the results, very fair with grading, makes class fun, and pretty funny guy as well!!! I am trying to get all of my computer classes with him!!!
Lots of fun in class, low key but hyper some times. Don't turn anyting in late and you will be ok. One of the better teachers at SFCC.
This is a great teacher... He is down to earth, and cares about his students. He will work with you if you have a question, and wont stop until he is sure that you know that material! GREAT! Strongly recommend him for ANY computer classes that you take! A+!!!
Excellent, learned new things, he made class fun.
Superb teacher, quite knowledgable, very helpful always there to answer questions
Has some issues with late work, maybe that is good for most but hard if you are a slacker. I heard that other CGS1000 teachers will take late work. Most of his students make A or B. I mad an A.
Mr marks is an awesome teacher! If you are behind or missed something he will work with you to help get it done. He grades fairly and is quick to answer any question you might have! I suggest taking his class!!!
very helpful! a great teacher!
John is a very honest and fair teacher. He is very easy going guy and if you are willing to try somewhat he will help you no matter what. I know that I needed an A in the class and I was going to be border line and towards the end of the class he really helped me achieve my goal. Thanks again John. Alex
Excellent, if you are willing to work and learn he is willing to help. You WILL learn in his class and he is NOT boring.
Excellent instructor! This is the one to take if you want someone that will help guide you through difficult material. LOVE his bonus POINTS!
Took the class online, did not like the workbook but the instructor was willing to help when needed. He will answer your emails quickly. He is one of the best in the department.
Mr. Marks was an amazing instructor. This class was difficult and I would not have passed without his constant and patient help. I wish he taught all my classes. He truly went above and beyond what was required to help me and the rest of our class succeed. I will miss his sense of humor. GREAT GUY!!
I only had one problem in the class, and John Marks very quickly handled the situation, and got me underway. Good Teacher.
DON'T EVEN DARE TAKE HIM NOR HIS COMPUTER CLASSES. So much time and effort is required he obviously thinks people take ONE CLASS, because with this that's all you have time for. His CLARITY IS RIDICULOUS and the computer microsoft/excel is USELESS!!! Avoid this class if at all possible!!
This is not a cake walk class and requires you to complete work outside of class. But, that has nothing to do with the instructor because the class is standarized. John will help you and is always available online and in his office. Show him your work before you turn it in and you will make an A.
BEST TEACHER for this offered CGS1000 class.I would not tell anyone to take another professor for this class. He helps you with anything you need and as long as you aren't stupid and have common sense, an A is easily achievable. It only meets once a week so there is some easy only work.Maybe 2-3 hours a week. Highly recommended.
I recommend anyone take CGS w/Marks. Even if you are comfortable with computers and the Office programs, there is still a lot to learn. This class is not an easy A, the tests are ridiculous, but that is not up to the teachers, they all have the same version of the tests. Mr.Marks is very responsive, dedicated, and will always offer help if needed.
He is the best professor i have ever had, and i am so glad to be taking another class with him this semester!!
Good professor will work w/you if you need help.He is kind of a loose guy.He hates it if you ask him too many questions(like every day)lol
Excellent teacher! Keeps you interested, introduces latest technologies and establishes an atmosphere that encourages communication and teamwork.
Class is not a cake walk like many seem to think. Introduction of new technologies is cool, if your not a whinner and show up to his office if you need help you will do well.
This professor is awesome. He keeps up with the latest technologies and shares the same interest as us young computer nerds. Definitely very interesting and I really hope to take another class with him! (Just not online).
This professor is very short with his students and never grades anything until the last day of the course. If you have a technical problem he won't assist and he'll be all too happy to quote back to you unhelpful policies in the course syllabus. I expect to do well, but I think he made the experience unnecessarily difficult.
Some of the projects were difficult and he expects you to learn the new technologies on your own. He will not give step by step instructions. But, this is more like the real world then most of the other courses in the department. I got an A but had to work for it. He was always very helpful to me when I showed up for his online office hours.
Very helpful when you ask for it. Do your best and show up for his online office hours. Easy to get an A from.
John Marks is an amazing hard working professor with a great attitude and interest in his students! I loved the course I took with him because it is full of computers, and he is more than willing to help with the course material. He's a very intelligent and practical person. I am really appreciative he was my teacher. I HIGHLY recommend him!
Awesome Teacher! Definately keeps class interesting I enjoyed and looked forward to this class every week!
Easy to get along with, easy to make and A if you are on time with your work.
Reluctant to help, most stuff is self taught. Most of my issues are with the course syllabus. But having class one night does not leave much time for interaction and questions.
John is a road warrior on his motorcycle when the weekend comes around but in class believe it or not he still has a commical attitude likes to keep a light hearted atmosphere so long as everyone is maintaining an excelent learning enviroment. If I ever need to take more computer classes I hope that I can find him as an instructor from LGS haha
Came away appreciating the value of how technology in the nursing field.Mr. Marks is a fair and helpfull teacher."A "is attainable if you take part and do your work.He will listen to your views, and is fair in his grading. Doesn't overload you with work, like his is the only class you are taking. Not like some did.Take him if you want to learn.
Its nice to be taught by someone who actually has experience in the field unlike most of the rest of the department. Do you work on time and you will be fine. Show up for the online discussions for extra help. It takes time to get use to his style but in the end it is worth it.
The great thing about computers is they dont get upset with you, cant argue, and never steal your beer. I cant say the same for professor Marks
John is super bossy and sarcastic..in fact he is making me rate him on this website right now...but he is pretty awesome! The class is easy, if you pay attention and follow directions perfectly! If you do bad in the class it is you and not the professor! PS...his cologne is amazing!! :)
It takes a minute to adjust to his style. You need to have a bit of a thick skin, because he doesn't mince words, but ultimately it's just because he cares. He's like a melon... tough exterior, sweet interior. I really found him to be a breath of fresh air in my entire college experience.
Very helpful and fun instructor. Smart guy that actually is a subject matter expert which is nice and hard to find.. I would highly recommend him.
Excellent instructor. Very concerned that you benefit from his class. This is his passion, so its never boring. He listens well to his students and accepts construction suggestions. Take this class & it will benefit you greatly in real life. You always know what is expected & he is more than willing to help you succeed.
Prof. Marks is the best teacher I have yet to come across at SF. He is caring and compassionate about what he does. If you have any questions he wont mind answering them in a timely manner. He also gives you his # if you have any questions. Very lenient. I would recommend anyone 2 take his class. Easy A w/o trying..Take him you wont be disappointed
Mr. Marks is an excellent professor. I would highly recommend him to anyone required to take a CGS course. He is incredibly understanding with questions or if you're falling behind, extremely helpful, and kind. He gives you his phone number if you need to call with any questions and is readily available to assist you. I'm glad I took his class.
Professor Marks is truly interested in his students and he will go out of his way for you. You do have to do the work but if you are having any problems he can be easily reached by various means.
I would not recommend this professor at this time. He works full time at UF and is going to school himself. Doesn't have time for you, when you get locked out of the system and send him a screen shot to prove it, doesn't matter, lost 100 points and no help. You mainly work with other students. thank heaven for them.
I would not recumbend this professor if he was the last one to teach the course. He is very rude, does not help at all, he will tell you to post in a discussion to ask other students, does not respond to emails in a timely manner due to working and going to school himself. If it weren't for such great classmates, I would have dropped a while ago!!
This guy is awesome. He always answered my emails and phone calls even late at night. This class was a challenge but he helped me get through it. Thank you Mr. Marks
He is not one to give step by step directions and some of the chapter projects were difficult but he was very helpful the few times I called him. I made an A in the course with no problem.
Dr. Marks was very helpful when I had some personal issues that prevented me from completing all the assignments. Although I was unable to complete the course he did everything he could to help me. He is a nice guy.
Dr. Marks was a very fun professor, he knows his stuff about computers and healthcare. There is one group project. You have assignments due every Monday. You must participate in group discussion every week or you won't pass the class. Overall, I would recommend this class. Heads up, he works two jobs so he can be slow at getting back to you.
His grading is tough and his feedback is unclear. He deducts points if you don't do exactly what he wants, but he doesn't explain what he wants. My friend who also took this class with him had the same feedback. He does let you fix the assignments and get some points back, but he's never clear about what he wants you to fix.
Here is how this class works. Do assignment, turn it in, read Dr. Marks feedback, make corrections, resubmit assignment, get an A. While there is no required textbook be prepared to spend some time with the Testout Software.
He seems chained to the way the course was designed and otherwise a nice person. The design of the course is the problem. I would not recommend this class until they get rid of some of the insane excess busy work but the teacher himself is patient/nice. I would rate him as not excessively tough but for group assignments which he did not create.
There were a few loud mouths in the class who thought they were better than others. They constantly complained in the online discussions. Professor marks was very patient with these students. Completing all the Testout modules was challenging but the other assignments were simple and he let me turn in multiple assignments late. Easy A!
Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the Testout modules. The professor is there when you need him and was very helpful when I called him. But most of the content is automated. The Piazza discussions were very lively to say the least. I probably would not have made an A if professor Marks had not made changes to the grading policies.
Dr. Marks loves class participation and lively discussion. He utilizes group and individual projects that are designed to expand one's basic knowledge of computer programs. His project instruction is clear and he stands ready to guide everyone to satisfactory results. He offers easy As if one participates and works with fellow classmates..
Ok professor, no problems.
at first it was a lot of work but once i figured out how the Testout software worked (or not) i was able to budget my time according. i will probably make an A.
I don't think that Dr Marks was specific enough about the assignments. He kept taking off points for things that he never said on the assignments. His grading was too harsh but you can still get a good grade if you study.
Marks is not a teacher. He's basically an online baby sitter. He's arrogant, talks down to outspoken students and provided no value to the class. It's all automated and he defers all issues to the software vendor. TestOut sim labs were very buggy. Marks says if it didn't happen to the majority of the class it was not a problem. VERY FRUSTRATING!
This class was straight forward. If you do everything that's assigned in a timely manner you'll do just fine. You will be using TestOut through out the semester, the modules and domains can be time consuming. Over all, Dr. Marks is a great professor, very understanding and fair when it comes to turning in assignments and grading.
Professor Marks was there when I needed him. He provides his cell number to the class and I used it multiple times when I had issues with the software. The software was the major issue in the course NOT the professor. Once I figured out how to get around that I was able to make a good grade in the course.
The workload was ok, but he isn't clear about what he wants on the assignments and then marks off heavily when you do even the smallest thing wrong.
This was a straight forward class and the second one I have had with this professor. In addition, he recently helped me get into a summer internship with the university. Dr. Marks is always there for his students and tries to help whenever he can. I was very happy with both of his classes.
Helped me with getting an internship, then after I graduated I used him as a reference in my job search. He gave me a great reference and helped me secure a job in my field! Very informative and will give you good suggestions to help you figure out how to move forward into your career.
A straight forward class that requires a lot of time to complete the Testout software. The professor responds quickly to email and seems to care about his students. It takes him about five days to grade the other assignments.
This was my first course with Dr. Marks, and I really enjoyed having him as an instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable (both in terms of 'book learning', but also practical/hands-on experience), an excellent lecturer (he always has interesting stories and bits of wisdom to share), and genuinely cares about his students. Highly recommend him!
Dr. Marks made class fun. He was easy to talk to and was very quick to respond to emails outside of class. Good professor!
Seeing as how this was his first semester teaching, he did a tremendous job!
Working on my second degree and I can honestly say that Dr. Marks is probably one of, it not my favorite professors at any of the universities I have attended. He makes class interesting, he's laid back enough to where you feel comfortable but also stern when the situation calls for it. Come to class, do your work, and you won't be disappointed.
He teaches well, is funny (which helps) keep you interested in his lecture, and is fair and understanding with grades.
Fantastic professor. He looks out for his students.
Dr. Marks was a fantastic professor. He has a great mix with being fair yet tough with his grading, don't expect to just walk in and be handed an A. He will make you work for it and if you don't earn it, will explain to you why and give great feedback on how to do better next time. Hope to have him again!
I loved this guy! At first I thought he was going to be hard and a pain but he turned out to be one of my favorite professors at Santa Fe. I would take his class again in a heart beat, very caring guy and probably one of the funniest dudes I know. He makes you know your stuff but you have fun doing it. But overall I had a blast, 10/10!
Dr. Marks is fantastic! He's been in the business for a long time and is a wealth of knowledge. You have to work for your grade, but if you make the effort you'll do fine. Dr. Marks cares about his students and goes out of his way to get to know them, and to do what he can to help. You won't regret taking him!
The Tesout assignments can be a little stressful but professor Marks allowed the class to make up two of the assignments. He was quick to answer my emails and return my phone call. He seems to really care about his students and his Piazza postings are very informative.
John allows students to resubmit assignments over again as long as you turn original assignment in on time. This policy makes the class an easy A. He was alawys available and answered questions very quickly.
Dr. Marks provide some interesting insights in the Piazza postings in which participation is required to get an A. Sadly many of my classmates skip the discussion. The Testout assignments are time consuming but Dr. Marks lets you make up assignments which really helped my grade.
Professor Marks was very responsive. I took this online over the summer and had 90, no exaggeration, 90 graded projects that included the assignments, mini quizzes, capstones and tests. You have multiple attempts to complete the projects for higher grades, so if you're willing to put in a lot of hard work and TIME, you can get an A.
Professor Marks is easy to communicate with and responds promptly. There are a lot of online labs to do and 2 final exams at the end of the semester. Overall, the class is pretty straightforward. I would retake this professor.
Amazing professor, would heavily recommend. Overall east course, just make sure you get your assignments done on time.
McGraw Hill and SimNet are mandatory. There are 3 Discussions. 2-3 easy multiple step assignments/ week. The class was very easy, and you could retake assignments. The professor gives great feedback and is easily accessible and willing to help. You will learn how to use Excel, Microsoft and computer terminology.
Never met him face-to-face, so I can't for sure say if he's chill or not, but people are glazing him. Tight with deadlines, but expected as it's a college class. Clear instructions, feedback as to why you got said grade, and easy to contact. If you're going to procrastinate on anything, don't let it be the ALA or discussions, you WILL regret it!!!
