JOhn is the most fun you will ever have in learning about the geology of the earth. his lectures include him acting like dinos and basic child stuff, in its own hillarity!

He's young and his energy is refreshing. He has the ability to make a fairly dry course interesting simply because he's so excited about it. He sais his test aren't hard they're "thorough", he lies; they're hard. So study!

John makes class fun and interesting, however, his exams are killer! Study hard because he is THUROUGH! Great class!

Easygoing prof, thorough midterms. If you are the kind of person that can memorize text and notes well, but you have trouble paying attention to class because profs are usually boring, John will keep you awake. Fun class to learn in.

earth science was the only class i actually liked this semester. john is really funny and interesting. tests are haaard.. but not impossible to pass. he's very excited about his 'buddy' rocks and makes the class really worth going!

Probably the best teacher I've had at the College-University level. He's animated, funny, and thoroughly teaches all topics that are covered in the midterms and finals. I just love the passion he expresses for geography in general and it's extremely contagious.

Best teacher at Kwantlen by a long shot! John is too talented to teach at Kwantlen, he should have a TV show about geomorph b/c he makes what can be a dry subject extremely entertaining. He has high standards when designing and marking assignments but marks fairly.

Probably the best geography teacher at Kwantlen. Very out going and funny guy (bit of a geek but that's cool). His lecture notes are clear but it's important to refer to the page numbers in the text he puts on the notes (they provide a study focus). His tests are thorough and difficult but if you study properly you'll be fine. Recommended.

John is in the top 3 of my all-time-favourite teachers. His enthusiasm and energy is inspiring and contagious. I haven't noticed him picking favourites, he treats all reasonable humans/students the same; with courtesy and respect. He is helpful and fair but has high standards and sticks to them, which is equally important! He loves his job!

God this guy was an awesome teacher. We missed a lot of class due to inclement weather, power outages and the like and he was really good about tailoring the final (though hard) to what we'd learned. He's friendly, helpful, and VERY into his subject. Highly recommended!

John is a very enthuasiastic teacher, but he is also a very hard marker so if you are taking geology just for a science credit expect that you will have to work your ass off.

He's really fun and explains everything really well. His notes are also well informed and he's really funny. Also really passionate about GEOG and even named his kid Mica (it's a rock)...Overall, he's a good teacher to have!

First of all, John is not hot! He is a very nice and funny man. We take notes almost every class. His lab quizzes and test are fair. They are not easy. I would take another class with him.

John is an awesome enthusiastic teacher, really passionate about geology; he even named his son Mica (after the mineral). I'm taking another class with him because he is so helpful, fun, and he makes you want to learn. He says "giddyup" and "beasties" a lot. He is the coolest nerd ever. And don't forget the famous 4-colour pen!! ;)

Such a nice guy! Very funny and keeps you intrigued all class. One of my favourite teachers of all time. I hope i have half the enthusiasm for something someday that he has for rocks! He is such an enthusiastic teacher! He makes the class as interesting as he can. He is also really passionate and can be quite funny. His test or quizes can be a little hard, but if you study properly and read the textbook you can do just fine:)

all in all, totally worth the time spent, genuinely cares about the subject matter and genuinely cares about teaching as a real profession, available in office hours and happy to go off on related tangents, the tests are not easy but questions are simple and fair. defiantly a strong recommendation. you will not be disappointed.

By far one of the best teacher I have had. He is super passionate about what he's talking about and he genuinely wants all of his students to do well in his course. it can be heavy on the notes at times but John will go the extra mile to make sure you understand everything. He also makes class interesting by showing cool videos. Overall great prof!

Studying about rocks and listening about how they are formed can be boring however John is really passionate about geology .His lectures are really funny, his notes that he posts online ahead of time are clear and he really tries to make you do well in the course. His midterms can be a bit hard but if you study the material you'll be fine.

Best Professor I have ever had. He is very passionate about the material and gives off such a positive vibe. He's very willing to help and he just makes the class and the material fun and interesting. If you're thinking about taking him do it!

My first geography class and I loved it. He's very passionate about what he's teaching and on more than one occasion I was laughing at his enthusiasm as he was teaching us. His tests are fair but far from easy. There is very little multiple choice and a lot of writing. He marks very generously with part marks when you're close.

Even though I just took this class because I have to have three quantitative courses for my degree, John definitely makes the class interesting. I ended up enjoying most parts of his course because of how passionate he is about what he teaches. He really cares about his students and will be happy to help any time you ask.

If you see this, JUST TAKE THE CLASS with him you will have no regrets I promise.

Very passionate about geology and geography which makes him a difficult marker if you miss things in the tests but is generous if you don't. don't skip lectures even though they are heavy. The lectures are available online but are incomplete and he goes over most of the blanks without students asking. A good prof for those taking geography courses

John is a very knowledgeable prof and is really funny. He loves rocks so if you don't mind learning about it, take this class. Quite a bit of memorization for exams but it's not too bad and midterms are fairly easy, you just need to add a bit of detail. He gives 10 long answer Q's and you pick 3. Labs in class are easy marks.

Amazing prof!!! Classes are a ton of fun, so while they aren't technically mandatory its worth it to show up anyways. Excellent at answering weird questions that are a little outside of the box, and will definitely get you interested in geology whether it is your major or not. If you're looking for a good elective, this is it!!!

I had John for both 1110 and 1120. He allows group work for graded quizzes. Very generous marker and a very friendly guy. Clearly explains concepts that would usually be fairly confusing to me. Was willing to rearrange midterms in order for me to take them. Super super nice guy, would highly recommend!

John is a great prof. I highly recommend this course and him as a professor. He really cares about the subject matter and teaches in a way where it is easy to understand the concepts. Although his live lectures are not mandatory, I highly recommend dropping in on them.

John is an amazing dude and has great charisma, charm, and personality. His attitude is amazing and this guy knows how to keep the class awake and his lectures are soooooo good! Trust me take this guy.

It was a pleasure to take John's course! He is very personable and has a pleasant demeanour. The course itself has difficult content (at least for me because of the mathematic components) but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The lectures were engaging and he was also very good at responding to emails and concerns.

You can tell he's passionate about what he teaches and very knowledgeable through his lectures. The labs and exams can be a bit hefty, but he's a fair marker and very helpful. If you need a science requirement and are interested in the environment, highly suggest taking this course with him.

John is the best prof! He gives hints on questions for midterm/finals when you attend his lectures. He gave a 2 week submission to hand in a lab which was more than enough time. He really cares about his work and whoever gets him as a professor is lucky!

Before taking this course I was so worried about taking a science course however John made it so easy. He is always willing to offer extra support for students and gives hints during lectures about what will be on the exam. I usually never have the motivation to attend online classes since the lectures tend to drag, but this professor is one of the most passionate and engaging professors I've ever had. I was going to take him again for GEOG 1102 until they changed the professor. Also you only have 2 assignments. It's that easy.
