He explains things extremely well, but it's difficult to speak to him outside of class (he seems to prefer in class communication only.) and he gets off on tangents way too often (not the mathematical kind either). He's a good teacher if you are willing to work alot outside of class.

He is an "Abstract teacher".He teaches in a different way. Will show you how to think abstractly. I can say 1 thing, his goal isnt to judge you thru exams. I really enjoyed his class. Oh! Did I mention his sense of humor? Thats 1 FAINE Phd on a Harley!

He was a good teacher to me, one of the main math teachers i have been able to understand. you are able to retake tests, and some of the time, he doesnt go off your grades on your tests

His classes require alot of work on your own. He does not force you to study and do homework (he suggests homework problems). His grade is entirely dependant on 5 tests. If you just show up for those 5 tests and pass them all, then you pass the class.

Great teacher who takes you from rudementary basics to complexity with ease. Teaches the right way to think (not only) in Math. Be prepared for test which include questions on your understanding of the material, not just formula memorization and application. If you can get a dose of Dr. Martin, you're set for the rest of your Math studies.

He loves to teach and students enjoy learning because he's sooo funny. He's very helpful with learning and makes class time go by fast.

This professor isn't your traditional math teacher, he will keep you on your tip toes till the very end. He is extremely intelligent and very helpful, if you visit him in his office he is awesome! If your schedule is tough he will work with you for tests. Only down side(for me) are multiple choice math tests, but if you don't mind all power to you!

I loved Professor Martin! I took Statistics from him, and I was so scared that it was going to be horrible. But he made it fun! He made me feel like I could do it, and like his class was really important and that he really wanted you to succeed. He's easily in my top three favorite teachers! He's really nice. I highly recommend him.

Is there an "easy" way to teach business calculus? Dr. Martin had an odd way of making points: "Can I walk out that door? It depends." "Did you graph it?" Know the processes, and don't always trust the answer in the back of the book -- we found wrong answers there. Practice alone, practice as a class, learn the processes, and pass the tests.

Great professor. He's very smart and he kept the class interesting the whole semester. Recommend getting the book, not required, but he uses it fairly often in class. Willing to help and always answers questions.

John Martin is a wonderful teacher. I was worried about going into statistics but he made it so easy. Quizzes are given as homework, and his tests are just like his quizzes. Part of his tests are take home. He's always available for his office hours and is willing to help with questions.

This guy is SO goofy. Teaching wise, wasn't my favorite. Most of the time everyone in the class was looking around confused. As a person, really nice and funny. He's helpful and will answer any of your questions, but he rambles A LOT. There isn't any homework, and the tests weren't bad at all.

Excellent math professor. The best college math teacher I have ever experienced. He keeps the class fun and entertaining while teaching math. Great sense of humor. I got a 100 in the class and learned a lot of material without even trying he just makes it simple. I highly recommend this instructor if you want an A.

He is organized and professional at his work! Shows shortcuts on finding the answer, some homework is expected but its not alot. Tests are easy about 15-20 questions each. I hate math but I understood the math he taught me. Very helpful!!

I really like this teacher his homework are very easy, and tests are not so hard but challenging. His final was not even hard I had a C in my class and my final bumped it up to a B. He is very detailed on every sep and answers any questions. I reccomend him!

I took him for Stats Summ I. I struggled through ALL math classes before his barely passing with low C's until I took his class. He made it understandable and EASY! I never thought I could make a High A in math! I loved his class. He made me LOVE math!! So much I am taking him again for College Algebra in the Fall. TAKE HIM!!!

Took for Spring 8 wk course.Was nervous as I have not taken math in 7 years but he was AWESOME!!! The book was not needed, gives print outs & files of everything you need, you use excel fx for everything, he also showed me how to do it on my TI-84. Def would take him again, got a high A without any work outside of class time.

So this is a remedial class I'm taking, pretty much just a refresher. We come in, do hw online and test on a chapter. EASY. If you need someone talking to you and explaining every step, I wouldn't recommend him. But if you like doing your own thing and having him there for questions, he's great. Easy, lenient, and laid back!

He was a wonderful teacher, that is if you like everything exsplained in the easiest way possible. He shows the most efficent way to do the math problems and will answer questions if you have them, also is very helpful outside of class during his office hours. Great teacher if you like to work smart, not hard.

Took this class at least 3 times with other professors and never understood what was going on. I'm not very good at math but mr Martin made it easy to understand. Didn't use book at all. Quizzes are take home. Reviews are exactly like the test. He's very helpful outside of class. I would highly recommend this teacher.

Mr. Martin is my FAVORITE professor!! He is super helpful and if there's something you don't understand, he will explain it in a different way so that it makes sense to you. He will also spend extra time with you outside of class if you need it. He actually cares about his students.

I was horrified to take this class, but he makes it as easy as it can be! He is very patient and always prepares you well for test! I took this same class with another professor and dropped after a month and a half because I was so lost and frustrated! HUGE difference after taking Mr. Martins class!!!

Best math professor you will ever have!!! Prepares you well for test and then some! Homework is soooo do-able. More than willing to help you if you get lost. I took all 3 remedials and struggled, got to Mr. Martins class and pulled a HIGH A! If you want the best math experience of your life take him.

Hands down the best math professor I have EVER had! Very clear and concise, always has funny, quirky ways to help you remember formulas and how to work problems. You will not need the textbook, and as long as you pay attention, you can easily pull a high A!

I was absolutely dreading College Algebra. He was fantastic. He doesn't go out of his way to over whelm you with work. He makes class as simple as possible and encourages everyone.

best professor I've ever had by far. there is so many assignments (super easy ones) that it doesn't matter what you make on the tests. i was a b average high school student and i made a 96.57 in his class.

Mr. Martin is an excellent algebra teacher. He teaches in a way it is easy to understand! Attendance is not mandatory but if you go to class you are sure to get an A. He makes the material very easy to understand. His office is always open and he is always willing to help until you understand. He has a good sense of humor.

I'm not a fan of math but John Martin is an awesome professor! I actually looked forward to going to his class. There was a lot of quizzes but they made all the tests seem so easy. He is nice and very helpful. I recommend him to all of my friends and also plan on taking him again next semester!

Your grade break down; quiz average (take home) 20% tests 20% and the Final 20%. He drops your lowest test, and your 2 lowest quizzes. He is extremely helpful. This was my first A in math ever! He taught me how to learn math, not just the math it's self. He has effected my future in math. I also had free campus tutoring.

I'm not good at math but Professor Martin helped me have a new understanding. I took Math 1342 and actually enjoyed it. Clear grading criteria, available during office hours and a very funny guy. 13 take how quizzes (lowest 2 dropped), 4 test (lowest 1 dropped) and a final. There was no required textbook and if he's done early you can leave!!

Not good at math and I don't enjoy it, but Professor Martin presents it in a way that's clear AND more importantly, concise. Can be picky about showing your work on quizzes. Tests are nearly identical to quizzes and notes. Often went out of his way for a lot of students. Makes a monotonous lecture feel fun and relaxed.

Professor Martin provided all of the notes online, which a student can simply print out and follow along in class! He kindly answers all questions. The classroom environment is quite relaxed and he is very fun to learn from. If you do the work you will pass.

I loved this class, and I hate math so that's saying something. I had a serious family matter occur right before finals and he worked with me to get all the work in so I could keep my A. As long as you come to class and do the quizzes (13, drops lowest 2), you'll pass the tests (4 plus final, drops lowest) and the class easily.

Very clear expectations, 13 quizzes, 4 tests and final. Dropped 2Q's and 1T. Notes are very helpful, class is engaging. He works problems in class that are very similar to quiz questions. Reviews are very helpful and if class ends early he will stay and help with quiz questions. Overall, very good prof & class.

This is a great class. If you are worried about taking a math class like most people are take this professor. You wont regret it!

Attend class, pay attention, ask for help, and this class is a piece of cake. If you ask, he'll help you on all of your HW quizzes so you'll make a good grade. His tests are based off of all the quizzes you do and he gives you a review before every test! This class can be tough so you have to really work for a good grade!

Great Professor. I was really nervous about taking a College Math Course. Took Stats because I can apply it to real life. Professor Martin was great. He took something difficult and really explained it in a common sense sort of way. Highly recommend taking his class if you have the choice between Algebra and Stats. If you fail, it's all on you.

if you understand the lecture you should be good. he puts up all the notes and then re-uploads them with the sample answers... google can help you out while doing homework, tests are not too hard if you've paid attention. there was one test where we did get to work in a small group.

Mr. Martin is gold. He is extremely funny and a really great teacher. You won't need a textbook ever unless you need extra practice. Has all the notes on his page so all you have to do is print them off and then show up. Take home quizzes every week which is the only homework. 4 test and 11 quizzes. 3 quizzes and 1 test get dropped! Take him!

If you failed the TSI 2 times, barely passed remedial and college algebra, and have no hope at ever being good at math (aka all me) TAKE HIM!!! I've never had a teacher like him! He's so easy to follow while he's teaching, always explains things better if you don't get it, and he's just SUCH A GREAT TEACHER!

Took him for the 8 weeks course and I wish I wouldnt have so he could be my teacher longer. Honestly never had someone teach math so well. He does everything to make something hard like stats be easy and understanding. If you fail it's probably bc you didn't try. There's no way you could fail if you show up to class and do your work. Mr. Martin is by far the best math teacher that I've ever had! He keeps it plain and simple, and teaches in a way where everyone understands. He gives 11 take home quizzes. There's no reason to fail the quizzes. The two lowest quiz grades get dropped. There are 4 tests and then of course the final. Your lowest test grade gets dropped. Take him!

Very great teacher! Haven't done math in 6 years and this is the best teacher that has taught me something. He has a very goofy personality, kind-hearted, and will help you. Just show your work, if you dont't, you won't get any credit!

Took the ALEKS class with Mr. Martin. He's just awesome. Nice guy, very helpful if you need it and very supportive. There's not a lot of interaction in the ALEKS classes, but you can tell he likes being a teacher. He doesn't sit at his computer the entire class time, he walks around and helps. I look forward to taking another class with him.

I took Mr. Martin for developmental math and statistics. He is such an awesome teacher. He took the time to keep explaining when I didn't understand something. I wish he taught at uta also! Would take again!! He is hilarious, so come to class :)

Math is my worst subject but he's such a great profesor I managed to ace his class. It consists of weekly take home quizzes(1-2), 4 exams, plus the final. he drops the 2 lowest quiz grades and 1 exam. He usually gives reviews for the exams and as long as you know how to do those problems you shouldn't have any trouble when it comes to the tests.

Mr. Martin is an excellent professor and I cant say enough good things about him. I am horrible at math & enrolled in his class coming from developmental math. He is very good at explaining things & he is hilarious. Honestly, I could have made an A if my attendance had been better. I HIGHLY recommend him, especially coming from developmental math!

I absolutely loved going to class. He gives partial credit for wrong answers. Also he almost never keeps you for the full class. therefore there is plenty of time to do take home quizzes and other classes homework.

I passed this class b/c I was a frequent lab visitor and I practiced the problems that I didn't understand. Def. take advantage of Professor Martin practice test, I took the practice test like 3-4 times before I actually went and took his test. Literally helped a ton! Def. taking him for statistics! :)

Lectures are very clear and he is funny! First day of the semester he walked in with a can of Coca-Cola, sat down, popped his can open and said "Anyone else need to pop a cold one before class starts?" LOL. Doing homework helps with the exams and there isn't a lot. Maybe 25 questions for the week. He is understanding when it comes to attendance.

Easy going, fun, supportive teacher! As somebody who sucks at math, he made learning in this class very easy. His quiz system allows you to learn from your mistakes in wrong questions before the test. The test is also very similar to the quizzes, overall making the course much easier and comprehendible. Would suggest Professor Martin to everybody!
