I learned how to write papers correctly, which is detrimental to my whole college experience! I wasn't always prepared for the lectures - well neither was anyone else ... and with out the students reading the assignments it made his organization of class that much more difficult. He will help you - but if you need more "direction" then just ask!

Class drags on, but this class is an easy A. IF you ask and go to him after class he is very willing to tell you what he is looking for in your essay. He can teach you how to wright an Amazing paper on your own time. Assignments are too easy and wannabe revelant to the reading. Class participation is huge to making this class interesting.

He has great topics for essays and conversation- focuses on philosophies and social topics.

Great class. do the work and you will be fine, easy grader. Show up to class, and it is not boring if you pay attention. Teacher is friendly and keeps the time in class entertaining. Even though it was an 8 am class I did not mind going. (I hate mornings too). TAKE THIS CLASS!!

No tests, just writing, but actually on interesting topics. I really enjoyed this class and i'm going to miss it! He is a great teacher. Take him!!

Awesome. Very helpful, and likes students to write technical. Not what I was used to, but it was really manageable.

He's an awesome teacher, one of my favorites at moorpark. He does give out a lot of short writing assignments, but they're only 1-2 page response of your opinions on interesting poems, news, short stories etc. If your up to date on those and get atleast a B on all essays, you'll get an A in the class. Attendance also helps your grade.

McMullen is the chillest teacher. Very manageable and laid back. Definitely one of my favorite professors and MPC. Take him. You'll enjoy the course.

I don't know why everyone is trippin below me. McMullen is one of the best teachers I've had at Moorpark. I learned so much from his assignments and I now feel confident in my writing. I would recommended him to anyone!

Honestly can say this is the one of the best teachers I have ever had. He's young and laid back, the discussions were always interesting. He assigns a lot of work but it wasn't too hard. I wish he taught other classes! I recommend him highly as he is awesome, but only take him if you are actually going to do the work and show up!

McMullen is the best! He's really intelligent & has good insight. He cares about his students a lot. His work is NOT hard;as long as you try on the essays you'll do well. He is really nice & will correct your papers & make them better if you ask him.So you will get an A or B if you just do the work.He's chill & I would definitely take him again!!

I highly recommend this teacher. He cares about his students, and expects you to care about his class in return. So don't take him if you slack in attendance or want an easy A. His class was always thought provoking and different. I would take him again for sure. He helped me and challenged me a lot. I wish there were more teachers like him.

Legitimately one of the best teachers I have ever had. Cares a great deal about the students that want to try and really learn. Made me actually love English. There are writing assignments daily but he does a clear job of explaining what is expected.

great teacher, i was struggling the entire semester, but he constantly gave me advice and actually gave me a certain admiration for writing. i highly recommend taking his class. plus he is a great guy

This teacher was so helpful and awesome when it came to teaching. His methods of communicating with his students felt very casual but still serious. I would say he's my favorite teacher so far and his class definitely helped my writing. I recommend his classes to everyone.

easy class, teacher was really chill and helpful. final was a test, but he gives you 2 review days. Do the assignments and hw and you can pass.

I'd love to have John for another class. He helped me become a better writer and he's pretty easy on the eyes. You just have to show up, and you'll be more than okay.

His class was hard and was given a lot of work but I learned a lot from having him as a professor. He's a chill laid back guy. Ask for help and he'll be glad to assist you if you are struggling.

He is fantastic! He really helps you with writing! He does give more essays than other professors, but I was ok with that. Don't take him if you hate writing! He goes out of his way to help his students. That class was actually fun and I feel like I am a better writer because of him. Would take again! He is way better than most other professors.

Great Professor! Yeah, he gives work and essays; there's no way out of that, but he's very intellectual and an abstract thinker. Big on creativity. He's there to help his students and teaches in a way that's visual, unique, and easy to grasp. If you do the work YOU WILL PASS with a minimum of a B even with missing assignments here and there.

He's super chill definitely take this class. As long as you pay attention, do your work, and participate a little you'll get an A.

He is a very smart and laid beck guy. He definitely gives a lot more essays than the average teacher but his feedback on my essays have really helped me become better! He is one of my favorite teachers at MC. Overall it was a pretty easy class with a really nice guy. P.S. even though the textbook he has you get is only like 5 dollars don't do it.

This is the second class I've taken with McMullen this year and I have to say that he is a great teacher. You do have to write a lot of papers in this class but he gives great feedback on them, he walks around the room asking each student if they have any questions on how they can improve their writing. I recommend his class to everyone.

John was an awesome teacher that led an interesting class. Made you think about the world we live in. Mostly based off short stories. Quite a bit of writing, not too much reading or other work.

He's a really nice teacher! His lectures are boring but he's low-key really funny. He gives a lot of papers but he gives great feedback and requires peer edits. Keep up with the work and you'll do fine. TAKE HIM!

McMullen is awesome! There are 4 big papers and one research essay you need to do, as well as little writing exercises throughout the semester. You do papers on ads, short stories(usually Parker's Back or Yellow Wallpaper), books(F451), and a movie(Rushmore-Wes Anderson). He requires a textbook that's like $5 on amazon but we used it maybe twice

This was English 28 at pierce college. It is a course prerequisite for English comp 101. He is an easy going teacher. But because it was once a week for 4 hours there were many items due each week and at times confusing. the assignments should be organized differently rather than a bit of everything each week. Examples of wsa and essays would help

What is great about John's class is that students can try to write a variety of poems and fictions through WSA if they want. His lectures were really beneficial to me.

A Lot of our homework was watching "Black Mirror" and doing a page response to an article. Get to talk about real things and actually cares about teaching.

Professor McMullen was a wonderful professor. He gives weekly homework and quizzes based off of the assigned reading. He gave 3 essays including a research paper. Really easy. learned a lot .

I had McMullen for M02 last semester and he was one of the best teachers/professors I've ever had. I don't wake up early for anyone and I'm in his M01A class this semester and his only class was at 8 am and I took it because he's that great. He is so funny and the M02 class was relatively easy. I would hands down recommend him.

Im taking Prof. McMullen right now and he seems to be okay. I dont necessarily have too many complaints besides his overload of busy work and constant assignments that do nothing. I honestly dont think Ive been taught any good info these past 7 weeks. He is a laid back teacher and isnt mean, just a lot of homework which is easy if you do it.

Prof. McMullen is a very chill person. He offers amazing feedback and is always willing to help. Nothing is really difficult and very easy. We have three essays that arent very hard and allows you one rewrite for a possible better grade. Only complaint I have is the amount of hw he gives and the long lectures. Other than that, hes a good Prof.

Prof. McMullen is a very honest man who is willing to help. He offers to read over your papers, help with a thesis, and is very straight forward. He also gives extra credit and allows you to rewrite one essay. Im a stem major, but this is an easy class. Just dont be lazy and be consistent. Theres a lot of assignments, but youll be fine.

Great teacher that gets into deep discussions and really enjoys genuine participation. There is a bit of a workload but it's not too hard to manage just actually to do it, but he will give you full credit for late assignments too. Although he can be specific with the grading he is always willing to help and has a laid-back personality.

Sometimes will assign multiple small things to do or one or two big things for homework, he tells you exactly what he is looking for so if you do your writing similar to his style you will get a good grade, zoom was not mandatory and you don't need to have your camera on, but good class because he breaks down the homework and answers all questions.

Professor McMullen is by far one of my favorite professors. His class is very interesting and I would highly recommend this professor. Professor McMullen is funny, and he brings out his classes in a way that inspires any who take his class.

if you start procrastinating on assignments you're going to feel it. he has some extra credit assignments that really help. he gives great feedback and provides second tries on big assignments like research papers. the discussions get a bit lengthy but if you put the effort in you'll get a good grade. 10/10

I had him through Zoom and really enjoyed him. He was fun and interactive with students and was always super chill. Assignments aren't super hard, neither are essays. I also like how he includes different media into his class, it made me more interested because I usually hate English. I'd say he's the way to go if you need to take English Comp.
