Whoever left that nasty comment must have skipped a lot, because Prof. Mcnamara is the best CHYS prof we've had yet!! The information has been extremely interesting, and as a future teacher I will definitely benefit from this course!

What makes this class so interesting is the way John uses his personal experience to get the point across. A far better technique than memorization! His casual lecture style is balanced by his organized, prepared lecture slides we can print off

have to agree with the comment below.But the midterm was SO unprofessional. He even let so many people sit beside each other. Anybody could have cheated, and nothing was stoping them when he left the room for a few min. to pick up their book and glance a peak. I do like class and admire his trust

he's a good lecturer, although needs to revamp his marking schemes - needs more cclarity if you are looking for specific things!

John is such an inspiring professor, he uses such good examples and really helps you connect with the material. He explains things clearly and makes the class enjoyable at the same time!

John is hilarious! He keeps even the dryest material fun because of his sense of humour. Watch out though - his marking is tough! So don't just laugh through is class... pay attention!

One word... FANTASTIC. John is by far the best professor I've ever had. He is so passionate about the subject he teaches and it makes him soo mm mm good! He cares a lot about making a difference for kids and really passes on that passion to his students. Class was always exciting and worth attending... even at at 8-10 pm class.

Extremely devoted and helpful professor. He really tries to explain his lectures and assignments in the best possible way so everyone understands. He tries to relate and understand his students. He is really funny too and not bad on the eyes. Best professor I've had so far and excited to have him again next year!

John is one of the best professors I have ever had. He was my TA in first year, and was very helpful and so nice. He gets to know his students, which is great. In such a large class it's hard to do that, but John will say hi to you in the halls and before the exam. He's one of the best.

You won't be disappointed with this prof!! He is my favourite prof at Brock University. He is so nice and respectful. He is clear, organized, really cares for his students, and is always available when needed. More profs need to be like John McNamara :)

Amazing prof! Had him in first and second year, still remembers my name when I see him in the halls of the school. Dedicated, passionate and easy going :)

He was a great professor. I found that his lectures were interesting and that I wanted to go. I found the readings boring, and extremely dry, but other than that I thought he was good.

Great teacher, definitely made me less nervous for university, as my first ever univesity class was with him. Explained everything very well, definitely wish he was the prof for education here. Textbook readings were a bit boring, but still useful.

Great prof! Very understanding of the 'student-life' and compensates for that, exams can be a little tough but his course material is interesting and easy to understand.

Placement course, only a few lectures. o textbook needed. Great prof. He really gets good guest speakers in for this course, interesting lectures. Very enjoyable.

BEST TEACHER EVER!

Let me give you a males perspective (i.e. I don't rate him based on his "hotness"). Dude knows what's up. He is probably the most well spoken prof that I've had yet, and he's funny. Passionate, honest, inspiring, practical and totally awesome.

SO well spoken and passionate about what he teaches. Incredible!! Best class and best teacher by far!

John is such an awesome prof! I really enjoyed going to every lecture and I never found myself uninterested to attend. He keeps everything short and sweet which is very helpful when trying to understand content. He is definitely my favourite first year professor. I am going to miss him next semester.

He is honestly by far the best prof I've ever had! he explains concepts so well it's impossible to not understand lecture material! Even when he covered genetics and science of the brain, it was so clear-- I have zero background on these subjects and fully understood. He always worked hard to make class interesting and inspiring. Love him!!

Greatest professor!

John is the best prof I've ever had in CHYS, he is super easy to listen towhees he lectures because he is so passionate about this course. There was no textbook, just a few assigned readings. There were no assignments but there was a midterm paper and take home exam. Take this course if you get the chance, you'll love it and John!

He is so nice and helpful, he really makes 8 am lectures fun and understands that none of us want to be there. So he never lectures for the whole 2 hours. Favourite prof so far.

This was the best class I have ever taken at Brock. Professor McNamara is so clear with his lecture material, uses many examples to clarify, is actually INTERESTING to listen to in class. He made me want to go to lecture and learn. This was the highest mark I have received in University so far.

John is awesome to listen to in lecture. He does a great job of not just lecturing off his slides but instead tells stories and makes most of the material applicable to his students in their life. He is funny and cares about students getting a good grade! All of his assignments are interesting and easy to do well on!

Lectures were important, if you didn't go it would be a struggle. Readings for the class were flexible and I normally read them after the lectures. John was funny and seemed like a nice guy. I would definitely take one of his classes again

Fantastic prof, interesting course material.

Definitely my favourite prof at Brock, he understands that not many students actually want to be in class on a Friday for 2 hours so he makes sure to end as early as he can. He made the course material interesting and tries hard to be personable. 10/10

By far the best prof I have ever had. Every lecture felt like a motivational speech. So engaging. The TAs mark hard on the papers in this class so get participation marks in seminar.

I took CHYS 1F90 with John last year, and it was my favourite class of first year. His lectures were interesting and insightful. He is clear and easy to understand. His humour and personality is what made his lectures so memorable.

John was an amazing prof! very kind and understanding when it came to due dates. He made FAIR accommodations and his lectures were always interesting and I looked forward to them every week!

Great stories and loves teaching

Dr. McNamara is by far the best professor I have ever had. He is the most compassionate professor and truly shows that he cares for his students and their education. He makes the material interesting for every class I have had with him (even Monday at 8 am) and he gives great resources to help students get their desired grades.

One of the best ports I have had and considering its only my first term in uni he made it really enjoyable!

His lectures were very interesting. I wish our classes could have been in person which would have made them much more fun. The marks completely depend on your TA and how tough of a marker he/she is.

One of the best profs ever! Lectures were always so interesting and not to long! Course load was very easy to keep up with and marking was not extremely hard! Definitely one of my favourite classes.

Was the fall prof for the course. His lectures were amazing, he sent out lecture notes ahead of class that was to the point and very accurate for what he talked about in lectures. He answered questions about course topics and assignments well and was a very nice professor to have especially for the first year of university.

John was really a true gem. His class was one that I definitely looked forward to. He always found a way to make lecture intriguing but not boring. He kept things fun and fresh. He uses the textbook a lot so get ready for some reading. But overall he's a fair grader and gives some great feedback. Would def take his class again.

This is my second time taking a class with John, and he's still amazing. He is personable and wants you to do well. He is understanding and wants people to enjoy lectures rather than typing like madmen. His projects integrate important lecture material while leaving room for creativity. He also cares about what he teaches and is an amazing prof!

I found his lecture quite engaging, some of the readings can be long but overall its not a heavy workload. Marking really depends on the TA, and sometimes can be unfair. Great professor, would take his class again.

He is a great professor. He makes lectures short and sweet and is a funny man. CHYS is my major and the classes are so interesting! Definitely recommend!

Lectures are not boring and are super informative. They all look somewhat rehearsed because of the amount of preparation and care he puts into the course. Super nice guy to talk to. Be careful with the course though, it is very assignment heavy so make sure you participate in seminar and do all your readings, you may be marked quite hard.

I loved this course. He was by far my favourite professor this term. If you can't attend one of his lectures, all slides are always posted, and he always has notes that you can print as well. I actually WANT to show up to his lectures because the material is pretty easy to grasp and he makes it more interesting. Would definitely take again.

He was very funny, he didnt just read off of his lecture slideshow, he engaged with the class, used real-life examples of things taught in class, and overall was really enthusiastic about his work. Seminars were mandatory for participation marks, but my specific TA was lovely, very respectful.

The best prof you will find at Brock. Caring, understanding, inspirational, entertaining, fair grader, interesting content, much care in the subject, involved in the community, good lecture speed, provides lecture notes etc. Would 100% take a class just because he's teaching!

Very chill and great

Hands down one of my favourite professors! He is so funny which makes me actually want to learn and pay attention during lecture! He is great at explaining things in ways to help every understand what he is teaching. Work load is very light, and simple/easy. Depending on your TA, you will probably pass this class with nothing lower than a B.

John is a super friendly, really approachable person, his lectures are engaging and he is passionate about what he teaches. His midterm was harshly graded but that's understandable. He seems like he really cares about his students and is really understanding with extensions

I loved john, this class was awesome in my first year

As a first-year ConEd student, John made the university environment welcoming and a smooth transition from high school. You can tell how passionate he is about CHYS, as every lecture was entertaining and filled with enthusiasm and he included helpful examples. I definitely recommend this course and would take it again!

John is such a good professor! His lectures are engaging and easy to follow. His lecture notes are also really helpful. The midterm paper was a little difficult to complete with the constraining wordcount. Overall John is a great prof and will be missed by the class.

One of my favourite professors! He's amazing at lectures, his semester was my favourite by far! Theres only a few readings for his semester, and most of them are pretty light (although, there was one science heavy one, seminar discussion helped with understanding). His exam also was pretty average, nothing too hard or too easy

Dr. McNamara's lectures were extremely engaging and fun, and the way he presented the content made it helpful and easy to understand and apply to midterms and preparing for the CHYS1F90 December exam. Would definitely recommend taking CHYS1F90 :)

Are given lecture notes ahead of time, literally Ryan Reynolds vibes.

His lectures were funny and filled with knowledge. My TA was the one grading my work, and she was the hard marker. Depends on your TA, but this class was fairly simple.

Very nice prof! Easy to talk to! He gave us knowledge about the exam way in head of time, cheat sheet allowed, and he gives lecture notes ahead of the lecture (which is generally all you need for the exam). Readings are done for each week, but never required/not on the exam or talked about in seminar. You are graded on a few things though
