Study your A** off and you will do well, and a you may want to start reading the material a year ahead of time. Dr. Meixner is real cool, and his class is fun to be in.

Had a bit of trouble in this class toward the end, but mostly the material isn't too hard as long as you study. And go to class. If you don't go to class, you won't know what's going on. Nice guy, funny. Heard some inappropriate things about him though.

The innapropriate things you have heard are true. He's a good professor, but has a shady character. If he appears VERY "freindly" back away.

Great guy, openly talks. Class is difficult if you are not a math type person. Knows his stuff, and is very helpful if you asks questions. Make sure you ask him if he has beer in his Diet Pepsi can... seriously, ask him!

Beware of his roving eyes. Keep your distance. He knows his stuff, and teaching it is no trouble. But you get the feeling he is definitely there for the females ages 18-24.

Great prof. really knows his subject and can answer questions thoroughly and clearly. always eager to help his students and has a good sense of humor. occasionally lets his classes out early too...

I loved this class. He warns you at the beginning that it is challenging and you need to focus and study to get an A. Also, I am female and never noticed anything unusual. He is a great professor, and yah, ask him if it's beer in the diet pepsi can.

I liked this class a lot. Don't listen to what people say about him, Dr.M is a great teacher! He really cares about his students and is always willing to give them the benifit of the doubt. Girls, don't flatter yourselves, he's not looking at you.

He is a professor of Straighforward Logic and the Science of Honest Arguing. If he generates unwanted blandishments for women, he is doing it light-heartedly. He does so in order not look like a stuttering fool. don't be flattered just be honest. FAIR

He was by far in the top 10 professors I have ever had. This calss is challenging but if you go and pay attention you will get an A. It is a good class to get of taking some kind of science class in the UPs.

I am currently in this course and i love it. I think it is difficult, but he makes it fun to learn. I've never taken a philosophy class before......and BTW he's definatley not creepy - quite a nice man!

Good guy, and interesting class. If you are not happy with test grade just argue it and he will change it. went from a B to A- and C- to C+ first 2 tests.

Great class, though you actually have to do work(unlike most CMU classes!) If you ask for help he'll give it, if you argue it he'll give you the benifit of the doubt. And come on, I know I'm not the only one who thinks he's handsom!

Great teacher and nice guy. Never unappropriate. Explains things well and at a good speed. He knows his subject well. Is willing to negotiate on grades. He is cool and oftens hints to his extensive partying in the past. Also gives good philisophical advic

If I had to point out an example of a class that is taught well at CMU, this would be in my top three so far easily.

The man is a living god and I adore him. I'm really sick of people saying that he's shady and inappropriate...I've known him for over three years and he's been a terrific influence. People need to lay off. Terrific class...very enjoyable and interesting.

Brilliant man, fantastic class. He's a wonderful professor and his teaching style is flawless. This was the best philosophy class I've ever taken. I cannot say enough in praise of it, and in praise of the valuable skills it taught me.

Where to start...Philosophy is philosophy but if you're going to take a class take it with him, for sure:) He's smart and funny which both help in creating a class that isn't boring or a waste of time! He helps all he can plus more and tests are easy as long as you go to classes and study.

Meixner is a fabulous teacher and quite good looking.I love it when his ass shakes when he writes on the board. Ah yes..and I've never had a teacher drink a beer in class. Gotta take this Prof!!!

I absolutly adore Dr. Meixner. He is so intelligent. This class with him is a must. He is a wonderfull guy and knows how to teach.

If you think hypothetical syllogisms and ad hominems are boring, you've never learned about them from Meixner. this class was great. a lot of fun, yet challenging. I am really looking forward to the next Logic class with Meixner. great guy.

Really good teacher makes logic interesting and he explains it very well, probably one of the better teachers i have had so far.

If I would have taken this class with any other professor I probably would have dropped it. This course is very time consuming and you really can't afford to miss class because a lot of information is covered. John is a very nice guy, which makes the class possible!

hes a nice guy. its not a classyou have to go to all the time either. ive done my fair share of skipping and im still doing ok. he grades on a curve. and he compares heaven to a never-ending orgasm.

If you are willing to put in the work, this is a great class! One of the absolute best I've taken here (especially as a UP). Class is light-hearted and FUN. He is hilarious and gives you time to ask questions. Very willing to help you with any problems. My favorite class at CMU!

I very much enjoyed his class, even though I didn't have that much interest in the material. The final was a ****, but as long as you know how to do the truth tables, the proofs, and have an average knowledge of everything else, you'd escape with about a B. (like someone else said) Entertaining and nice prof.

he is a really funny teacher. he tries his hardest to make the subject interesting and easy to learn. the subject can be difficult but he does a good job at teaching it. i would say take him because he is very funny and he likes to teach.

Starting out it is like learning a foreign languange because it is so new to your brain. But the truth tables and proofs come with practice. Go to class, last lecture is great!

Great guy! Very funny. The class was hard, but as long as you go to class, you will remember his jokes about the topics, and it helps you on the test. Other wise, good luck reading the book. Hes kinda hot in an older funny man sorta way... call me weird I guess.

Dr. Meixner is such a great professor. I had such a hard time in this class and he was very helpful. He has a lot of jokes about drinking and partying. He's a lot of fun and very helpful. Take him!

Good professor. Class is hard and takes some work. Just practice the proofs and the truth tables and you'll do fine. Material can be intimidating at first but you'll learn it with practice.

I'm mad that I took this class CR/NC -- because I ended up with an A! This guy is amazing. Who would have ever thought that logic could be -- *gasp* -- fun? I thought this would be dryer than the triscuits in the back of my grandmother's cupboard. But, no, Meixner makes it great. Thanks so much for keeping it fresh!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR AND THIS COURSE!!!! Meixner is a very funny and helpful guy. You'll more than likely be intimidated by some of the work but it's really fun and interesting and you'll get it as long as you care about practicing it... not to mention he teaches it well, keeps the class fun and will always help you if you need it!

My favorite class so far. He's an awesome prof. He is sarcastic and funny, really cool guy. Class wasn't too bad. It's helpful to go to class, but attendance is rarely taken. He lectures, but he makes it pretty interesting. I wasn't really planning on liking the class but i'm taking 340 now!

He is the BEST teacher I have had at CMU thus far. Keeps student's attention span with references to sex, drugs, and alcohol, and is an over all hilarious guy who is very good at explaining things. If you need help, just ask him. He's the****! :)

My favorite teacher and my favorite class thus far!! Taking it for a UP I was expecting to be bored, but her know his stuff and lectures VERY well on it, I was never bored! I liked it so much I'm planning on taking the next level! Need to study for it, going to class is helpful and the CD that comes with the book is also VERY useful!

One of the few people at CMU who can actually teach. If you can think logically there is no way you can do poorly in this class. (That's not an insult, some people just don't.) The quicker you take this class, the easier the rest of your years in college will be. I don't know what it says about him as a person, but he's got a facebook account.

Great prof. hard class, its a lot to keep up with. He is funny and keeps class interesting though. If you have trouble with something he is willing to help you out. If you do take this class he's the guy to take it with.

He is a kid with a big brain and grey hair. He knows his stuph, and he is always making jokes. He has a massive grade-curve. Get into a debate with him, and you will enjoy it or shut up quick. His mind generates logic with the power of 3000 midgets and a vacuum. He has homework like in a math class, only he grades light and assigns light. TAKE HIM.

When I first got to class... I thought what in the hell did I get myself into. But it ended up being pretty fun. You just have to go to class and pay attention. Homework is easy and he grades on a huge curve. I had no interest in logic but I have an A in his class right now. TAKE HIM!

The ideal college professor. Smart, engaging, perceptive, receptive, understanding, passionate, fun-loving, and easy going. Very helpful, extremely clear. Go to class, take notes, study, show him you want to do well, and you will be more than fine. My favorite teacher of all time.

This is an amazing professor. The class is confusing in par, however you can always get John's help. He is easy going and great to bs with. He will make you think your ass off though.

He is the only prof that I knew I was going to get a grade letter of C in but gave him an A overall because he is very good at explaining things and his lectures are very fun and interesting. Take him and this class. It will be rewarding

I enjoyed him as a teacher. He was interesting and was a nice guy to talk to. He could even be considered a friend. He taught the class well and was open for questions. Just don't think it is a blow off class, you do need to work for a good grade. Mostly you just need to try!

Professor Meixner is a very good professor. I would highly recommend him.

He assigns homework from the book, but I never bought it. Incredibly articulate and brilliant man, quite good at explaining new material. I would take him again if I could; I enjoyed both his class and his demeanor.

He is the best profs I've had to date. I say this after transferring to James Madison College at MSU & going to an esteemed DC law school. I wouldn't be where I am today w/out his class and advice. I was one of the few freshman in the class but I still recall the ease & clarity of his lessons & his funny, kind & tough all at the same time demeanor.

Dr. Meixner is the best! A little tough, but he's hilarious! Also, very very intelligent and it made it worth it to take a challenging class, even if it was just for a UP. He even cracked open a beer in class. I wish I could've taken more classes with him! He really cares about his students.

Hands down, one of the best professors at CMU. While the class material is challenging, he makes it easy to understand. Quite intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. I definitely recommend attending every class. Plus, he makes them fun with stories and relatable examples. Made Intro to Logic far more interesting than expected!

This class was a bit challenging but as long as you go to class and do the homework, you'll be fine. He takes attendance sometimes, but it isn't mandatory. Most of the exams are straight forward and if you can get old exams, their almost identical.

5 years at CMU and he is by far the most intelligent professor I have had. The course is not difficult if you attend class! This man is gifted and cares about his students, you will want to be in class anyway, despite being a part of the required UP. I wish Professors would strive to teach like Meixner. He is probably the best professor at CMU. He made class entertaining, let us out early, and told us exactly what would be on the exams. All you need to do is read the chapters, pay attention in class, and do the homework. It's really easy! The book is also easy to read.

He is a very funny guy and very clear about whats going to be on the quizzes and tests. Attendance is mandatory if you want to learn the stuff so you can pass. He also does random attendance checks so go.

One of the most rigorous courses offered at CMU! The material is very dense, and everything is very challenging. However, Dr. Meixner manages to engage the students & inspires them to learn more. He is a great professor, & I encourage philosophy students to take this course. Difficult(but manageable) exams, lots of readings, & exceptional lectures.

Great prof. Attendance isn't mandatory but he goes over power points every class, and you'll need those notes for the exams. Definitely recommend him.

Dr. Meixner is an amazing professor, more times than not though you find yourself very confused as to whats going on at the beginning of the lecture. Even though it was so confusing at the start though by the end he had explained it in a way that made sense. He also tests in a way that makes sure you know it, not just memorizing certain facts.

Difficult class, but not completely unattainable. I took it for a UP requirement, and this might sound silly, but I am surprised about how much I actually learned. I learned so much that I can apply to my daily life. Go to every class, take good notes. I think 4 exams total. Some homework and quizzes, but truly cares about the students.

Extremely hard class but it was fun and interesting. John is literally the smartest person I have ever met and he makes you feel like a college student should. Although his class was tough and the tests were rip your hair out type, it was a good class and a good experience. I recommend it.

This man cracks me up! So down to earth and easy going. His class is rarely ever boring, as he has a great sense of humor. The class isn't too hard if you pay attention during his lectures. He does a good job of explaining things.

John was the most amazing professor I've ever had. He's hilarious and truly cares about you and your well-being. About 4 exams total, including the final. Some quizzes and rarely ever any homework. Go to class, you won't regret it. One of the most entertaining lectures I've ever been a part of!

John Meixner is the funniest professor I've ever had the pleasure of having. He is a great guy and even though his class was hard it was so worth it. Ten out of ten would recommend to a friend. Constantly joking about drinking and drugs and other sorts of things he probably shouldn't, but thats what makes him awesome. Grades on a heavy curve.

I've taken many courses over my 3 years here, and this class/professor is the best combo I have ever seen.

Even though this class can be tough and make little to no sense at times, Meixner makes it bearable. His lectures are always interesting and funny and it makes class worth coming to. The one thing I would say though is that he doesn't use blackboard and the grading criteria is pretty unclear.

Meixner is by far the best professor I have had since starting at CMU. Lectures are very interesting considering the subject area can be somewhat dry at times. Meixner's awesome sense of humor as well as passion for the subject make this class worth coming to! Grades with a heavy curve and uses attendance to help curve your grade more.

He is an awesome man I've ever had in any other class, make a boring lecture into an interesting lecture. He cares about every student, even you struggling through the begging and get the bad grade. If you attended every class still can't get a fine grade, see him, he will always help you in any way.

I love philosophy. I've loved it long before I took a class with Dr. Meixner. But taking a class with Dr. Meixner has made me love philosophy even more. He's an amazingly intelligent man, and he's caring and compassionate. I really admire him a lot.
