Great person & professor! I was able to enjoy this course and looked forward to attending every class. I think the negative ratings posted were from students who expected an easy grade. I definitely reccommend taking this professor!

This class was pretty interesting and Jack taught it fairly well. If you don't understand something, go to his office and he'll definitely explain everything in a lot more depth than he does in class. Overall, a good teacher to have.

Too touchy feely for me. Easy class, don't buy the book. He's a nice guy though.

First test was hard, but 2nd and final were super EASY. Gives you everthing you need to know for test.

Jack is an incredible teacher, he has mastered the art of getting the material across to students while still making the class fun and entertaining. Jack is extremely kind, fun and smart. His blonde patch is also very hot and makes me want to go to extra class just to stare.

He is the coolest teacher ever! He is awesome. His tests are pretty much commen sense as long as you study. But he is very friendly and makes the class WAY fun! He is the coolest teacher at CSUF that I have taken for sure!!!

One of the best profs I've ever had. He relates everything to his own life in a humurous way. As long as your class likes talking (not even about the class stuff), the class will fly by. It always does in my class.

Jack is a fun charachter who I think is often misunderstood. The class is a great environment for free thinkers. If you have something that you would like to talk to Jack about, even random subjects such as String theory or Music, he will make time for his students.

Mr. Jack is the coolest and best teachers you can ever have. His tests aren't the greatest but it's fun to just be in that class and listen to him make jokes. The class is very interesting because of how he relates a lot of the materials covered to his personal life. MUST TAKE!!

Awesome teacher! You have to get to know him and not take offense to anything he says and youll have an awesome time. If you dont like him you prbably have a horrible boring personality. His tests are BRUTAL so study well for them. other than that its an easy A. oh and I LOVED the blonde/red patch.

Great teacher...tests are kinda hard, but the material is simple to understand, i learned so much from him about life and relationships and i will use them the rest of my life. ive become a better person and more knowledgable about life from this class...a must take

Jack is great!! He does seem to favor a few favorites, but he always has time for everyone. If you make the effort to see him in his office like he asks, he really does give you just as much attention as anyone else. Very devoted to his job, and very funny!

Awesome professor; he was entertaining yet knowledgeable and always stuck to his syllabus.

Easy going. If you do not like presentations, take him. He grades easily on them. There are about 4 presentations. Barely any homework. The lectures are very interesting. Attendance is a must. Tests are difficult (concepts). The professor is very funny.

best professor that iv had at csuf. he cares and takes time to know everybody. not too much hw. he is the only teacher i would reccomend to others. tests are a little hard but that doesnt matter cause he gives u many chances with other assignments to balance it out. this was the only class i actually looked forward to going to.

Jack was a great teacher and is very entertaining with a lot of jokes. There were few homework assignments and a couple of small 5 minute presentations throughout the semester. The midterm and final weren't that hard either. Make sure you don't miss class!

Mr. M is the funniest, coolest, most insightful, and memorable teacher you'll ever meet in your educational career! His lectures are always entertaining and helpful to listen to, presentations in class are fun, and the midterm and final aren't bad. Take him if you know what's good for you!

This guy is great. Don't listen to those random reviews on here that say otherwise. Read the book, do the few HW assignments & attend class. You'll do fine. Jack is seriously the most memorable teacher at CSUF! He even says the F WORD!!! Hooray!

Jack is awesome. He made the subject very interesting, had many stories to tell and was always interested in the students' lives. Read the text, pay attention to lectures and you're all good.

TAKE HIM...END OF STORY, PERIOD DOT. He hangs out with the students and genuinely wants to get to know each and everyone in the class. It's much more of a community than just a reg class. Tests are kind of hard, so study from the book for those, but by the end of the class you don't care what grade you have, MAKES YOU WANT TO LEARN

JACK IS THE BEST EVER! I took him winter07 and i wont lie he opened my eyes to many things. Hes the greatest professor on this planet. Hes super chill yet serious about his work. did i mention hes the nicest guy too. He cares for you, what more can a student want!

The class is not hard at all, however, he does tend to play favorites. He is very insecure, so if you try to call him out on any of his opinions or beliefs, you will probably end up on his bad side. Overall, it was an easy class. I would rather have just taken it with a more conventional professor.

By far the funniest teacher I've ever had. I'm a sleeper and I found it impossible to fall asleep in his class. The class is not hard at all. There is just a couple of presentations and one test.

Had Jack for HCOM 100 & 235. Literally the best teacher at CSUF. He's the reason I am an HCOM major. He makes class worthwhile, enjoyable, interesting. You'll be surprised by how much information you'll retain by the end of the semester! Genius of a teacher. Absolute GENIUS. And he looks like the pirate version of Ben Franklin. Extra win.

Makes class interesting. Assignments and speeches are very straight forward and simple. Visit his office hours it'll help. You will need to study when it comes to the midterm and final.

The professor is pretty cool and treats everyone equally. For a morning class, he sure has the energy to make the class laugh and enjoyable. The work is moderate, not too tough. The midterm and finals are multiple choice but difficult so you have to review everything! However, it is not difficult to pass the class.

Seriously the best professor I have ever had. He is super funny but also a great teacher. I laughed so much in class but I still learned so much about communication. He gets involved and helps however he can. I didn't miss one day of his class and I was excited to go to it every time. Definitely try to get one of his classes!

i had Jack twice... I didnt pass the first time, but did the second time, and even though i didnt pass at first, he is no doubt a great teacher. What you learn in his class will definitely be useful through out your life. I wish I had him for a class this semester!

Hands down the best professor I have ever had. He makes you want to go to class. the only thing that is difficult in his class is the midterm and final. everything else is easy if you listen to him and do it the way he asks. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM! YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Jack is a funny man and teaches interesting stuff! He talks a lot about his past during class though but is super funny! The tests can be tricky but i got an A! Just go to class everyday and you'll do great. Only TWO SPEECHES which is great, one is said to the class the second to a classmate :) Lots of class discussion also so you won't get bored.

I took his class my first semester and I've got to say it's one of the best classes I've ever taken. He prefers to be called Jack, and is really passionate about what he teaches ( very "preach what you teach"). It's a very fun class and you'll always learn something new. It's very manageable, but be sure to read the textbook.

I took his class to meet the GE requirements; I never expected to enjoy it so much! Jack is truely great, he really cares about helping his students and is one of the most caring professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Everybody should try to take one of his classes, even if you aren't interested in the subject. He's that good!

John is the best teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Tough grader, but only because he expects more out of you. He is very inspirational and he makes me look forward to coming to class every tuesday and thursday. Cool dude, take his classes.

This class is fun and interesting, but BEWARE you will not get an A. There is simply no way. Nobody uses the book in this class because you never need it except on the Final which is extremely hard. Be prepared to write 3-4 page SINGLE SPACE speech outlines. Really anal on grading. No curves. You also won't know your grade till the day of the Final

What an amazing man. Everything that everyone says about him is true. He completely changed my outlook on life and I would take this class over and over again. Went from a shy, insecure person to a confident, outgoing one. Looked forward to the class, even though it's speech. His lectures are wonderful and so is his book. 2 speeches, 1 w partner

If you're lucky enough to register into this class, consider yourself blessed. I was in this class as a freshmen so it was scary, but having jack as a teacher made me prepared for these next 4 years, but most importantly for life. SO many life lessons, you never want to miss this class. amazing professor! take notes!!

Jack is the best professor I've ever had. He becomes more than just a professor. He becomes your friend. He completely raises the standards for every other teacher. Yes, he makes you earn your grade but he is completely fair. His tests are hard, but if you study enough, you'll get a good grade. Jack teaches his students about more than just HCOM.

One of the most insightful and involving classes I have taken so far, taught by my most favorite professor I've had in college. More useful and applicable than any math or science class I've taken and an overall safe and fun environment. While it's not an "easy-A" course, you're very able to pass and will get a lot out of the class!

Jack's class makes you analyze yourself so much. This class is more of a self-reflection and psychology class than a speech class. I really enjoyed going to class everyday. Jack truly cares for his students and it's nice to have someone to talk to and open up to when you're going through a difficult time. If you want an A, he's not for you.

Jack is a life changer. It sounds cliche and radical, but you'll never leave that class dissatisfied. This class isn't an easy A, chances are you probably won't get an A. 100% take this professor. Pretty easy class, but honestly take him bc he truly cares about his students. This professor changed my life and I am so grateful I took his class freshman year! His style of teaching is way different than any other teacher and he makes you look at life in a totally different way. You have three speeches & they're all pretty easy. Take this class especially if you don't like public speaking! He makes HCOM fun and his lectures are awesome! For his class, there are two speeches: one in front of the class & the other with a partner. There are some assignments, but they're pretty easy as long as you follow the directions. Midterm and final are 50 questions multipe choice and T/F

Jack (as he request us to call him) was one of the best professors I have ever had. Not only does he make all the concepts easy to understand but he is so passionate about it. He also puts so much care and respect towards all the students. He actually learns names and takes the time to get to know everyone personally, He really is the best

He teaches about life, and as someone who doesn't usually like these types of professors, I thoroughly enjoyed his class.
