hard to understand with his studder. have to learn on your own.
Brags about his Phd, puts down students, looks like the KFC guy. stay far away!
Not only can't he teach math, you should see his pathetic comp. sci. skills!
Thanks for rescuing this class so it didn't get cancelled.
How did he get a teaching job? They hire anybody nowadays!
He lies. Said that no one will have an ind. study for a certain class, but then lets a student secretly have one. This is being brought to the Dean's attention. He is a VERY dishonest person!
awful prof, doesnt answer questions well, makes you want to sleep. pretty abstract math-mostly story problem type stuff, i got an A, but i'm good at math.
Not too bad, have had a lot worse in the math department. The key is to visit the math lab. They are usually easier to understand than the prof's.
Very helpful if you ask.
Dropped class. Awful classroom explanation (what there was of it). Confuses you more as he goes along and doesn't address questions. Tries very hard to make you understand, but doesn't succeed. Nice nice person, horrible teacher and subject matter.
his stuttering makes it difficult, but i know he can't help that. tried to keep class interesting
He is so hard to understand, he has a bad stutter. His class is hard, he is not willing to explain and he gets mad when you ask questions.
May not be the best professor. But definatley one of the better ones. He at least can have a laugh once in a while unlike most math teachers. Super nice guy and not very hard. (I am a CJ major too by the way so I hate math)
He knows his stuff.
Although I did not understand some of the concepts he was teaching, he was always willing to work with me outside of class. He's helpful, you just need to approach him.
easy class if you just pay attention and do the problems he assigns. Very lenient.
since he stuttered a lot, he was a very hard professor to understand. It was hard to pay attention to him during class. I had him for a 4 hour class and he usually kept us 5-10 mintues over with only one break...which made it even harder to remain attentive during class...hard class.

Not at all sympathetic to those with developemental problems. Doesn't seem to care, or really desire to care. Not a very nice man either. RED ALERT......RED ALERT.....AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
Nice guy. and no he doesnt stutter a lot. he is very helpful and not a bad guy. He is much better than Colwell. gives lots of examples
not a bad guy. there is not too many good math teachers at SVSU. he is one of the better ones
He is very patient and the class is easy if you pay attention. He does stutter, but not that bad. The class is an easy A if you do the work. He does lots of examples on the board that you can follow along with.
This was an extremely hard class, but if you showed that you were working hard he rewarded you for that. Fair teacher overall. Would take again, if I hadn't graduated this past year.
Professor was nice. One of the better Math professor's I've had so far, but I did like his wife's teaching style a little better. She was easier to understand. But he graded fair and didn't overwhelm you with homework. He gave a lot of problems, but we only had to turn in a few of them. Tests were a challenge, but you could use cheat sheets.
I was a mathematics major until I took his class. I honestly dreaded going to his class. He stutters a lot and gets off subject. He writes definitions on the board that are directly from the book. He's a nice guy but his class is a waste of time. Tests aren't bad, but the class is so boring.
Teacher: awesome. He's funny and nice. Kinda hard to follow because of a slight stutter and accent, but if you pay attention you'll get it. Class: hard!!! The math department at SVSU is horrible, and this class in no exception. Don't expect an easy grade, and do expect a lot of studying, no matter who you take this class with.
Writes long definitions from the book. Explains things way more difficult then they actually are. Goes off subject a lot. Tests were hard, and threw a bunch of curvballs. If this is your first time going into calculus, do not take him. does not teach well at all.
I really liked him! He's the grandpa type. Math125 is different a bit from normal math classes, so studying does help(since its college). Prof. Mooningham is great, and I would take him again if I needed to.
can not talk! he stutters and mumbles nonsense! he writes definitions and examples directly from the book so it doesn't really help any. doesnt answer the question asked, goes off on something completely different
Just a horrible professor. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Puts things on the exam that were not covered. Stutters. Uses circular reasoning to explain concepts. CONFUSING. CANT BELIEVE THIS MAN IS THE MATH DEPARTMENT HEAD. If you can take this course with another professor, DO IT. He doesn't talk- He Babbles. U cant see the board; he's in the way all the time
It's very hard to pay attention in class, seeing as he talks to himself and the board rather than his students. However, as long as you can read and have a textbook you should be okay because his powerpoints are the pages in the book word for word.
HARD TO UNDERSTAND... USE ELEMENTARY EXAMPLES.
The class is not extremely difficult and the book does a pretty decent job of conveying the material. That was fortunate, because the lecture was almost directly from the book. He is helpful during his office hours, assuming you can corner him in there for a moment. His tests contain a lot of information, I rarely finished them.
Well he is a nice guy, but he is never at his office hours, teaches directly out of the book, does not clarify the material or what is going to be on a test, did not even know how he was grading the class so that was frustrating...I would avoid him if you can. I couldn't unfortunately, but I will never ever take him again if I can help it.
Very confusing, he does help out when needed though. Teaches directly out of the book to the point you really don't need him, if you read the book, because the material is the exact same. Often will curve.
hard to understand at times. He is a vary nice guy tho. If you struggle in math avoid at all costs. He grades on big curves allot. Does not collect homework.
I'll start off positive, hes a nice guy.Thats about it.He is the worst math "professor" I've ever had.He rarely gives example problems and when he does, he faces the board and struggles to figure it out himself.A day in his class usually consists of furiously copying definitions and then you leave to figure out how to apply the useless deffinitions
I would not recommend taking this professor. Extremely hard to follow in class. I have always excelled in math and I really struggled with this course. He tends to stutter and ramble on. By the middle of the semester no one would show up.
He is a very nice older gentleman, but as a professor he is horrible. He stutters to the extreme and it very hard to even comprehend what he is saying. That doesn't mean you can't pass the class, you just have to put more work in. I taught myself everything and I am getting an A+. You get notes for test and he always curves big. Good luck!
He is a super nice guy, but he's not the best teacher. He can stutter sometimes and that makes him a little hard to understand. He presents power-points that are given to him by the book company, so he literally teaches word for word from the book. His tests are hard, but you can use a cheat sheet and he curves pretty big.
Thank God for the tutoring center. He rushed through the important stuff to teach us things we didn't need (we started learning about Calc 4). There could be 10 examples in the section and he'll do one and move on. If we ask questions during class he'll say there's not enough time to explain even if there's 40 min left. Doesn't explain anything.
Be prepared to be given the hardest problems in the section with no explanation. He doesn't get quizzes back in a timely manner so you don't know how you're doing. He's mostly worried about telling you his life stories instead of teaching. Skips around and doesn't cover material well at all. AVOID
I wish I would have read this site before taking his class. He was extremely hard to follow and did not speak very clearly. Pretty much had to teach myself the entire course. Tests were difficult but he did allow a cheat sheet and usually gave a curve. I would not recommend taking his class.
Terrible teacher. Period. Talks to himself and does not teach material covered on exams. Curves the tests incredible amounts just to create the allusion that he teaches the course correctly.
He is horrible. will not help you. told me I should change my major
He is very hard to understand. By the end of class I basically had no notes since the entire class period he messes up doesn't understand what he is doing. I would avoid this professor at all costs
Avoid this professor if possible. His class has the possibility of being simple if you know the material prior to it. You WILL have to teach yourself a lot. He'll help if you ask, but it won't make sense. He mumbles a lot. Tests questions are much harder than homework questions. If you can, AVOID. he was my least favorite prof this year
This teacher does not teach you anything. I taught myself the entire time.
Taking him currently for complex analysis. I agree with every review i've read so far. He is a nice person but very poor at teaching. The good news is, he curves tests. And he seems to go easy on homework grading. Put it this way, I've had 'easier' teachers in other classes and walked away with lower grades on tests. It should work out.
Avoid this professor at all costs! He does not teach you a single thing. He is either standing with his back toward you or sitting down attempting to turn around and write. His writing is barley legible so good luck reading it. He doesnt use powerpoints, does his own notes on the board which is just problems from the book. YOU HAVE 2 TEACH YOURSELF
He mumbles, expects you to get the material right off the bat, and goes off topic A LOT. Sometimes the homework material and things he goes over in class isn't even what is on the test!
He is very hard to understand and doesn't do practice problems or actually teach math. However, he curves everything and allows a lot of notes on all quizzes and tests. No homework just quizzes and tests most every week. If you aren't good at math or you find it difficult to teach yourself new things, I highly don't recommend taking him.
If you can't teach yourself, passing will be very difficult. He is hard to understand and does not teach. He just reads the chapter to the class like you are in grade school without explaining anything. When he did sample problems with the class, he had a hard time solving it himself! I was at the tutoring center every day and I still did not pass.
He is very monotone and boring. He speaks very quietly so you can barely hear him. He teaches from the powerpoint, sits in a chair the entire class, and his handwriting is horrible. If I were you, I would not take him as a professor for biostatistics.
Do not take this class. Just reads off of PowerPoint's and does not teach the material. You will be lost when you get to the homework and the book is no help. Tests are very long and on things that he never even talked about, and his grading system for tests make no sense.
Avoid at all cost! He sits in his chair and just reads off of the power points which are identical to what is in the book. I think I have seen him do a total of 4 examples on the board the entire semester. He also mumbles so its hard to understand him. Nobody shows up for class they just come for the test. Prepare to teach yourself.
Hard to understand
He is very hard to understand and ends up going off on rants on his life. He is very unorganized and gets lost in his slides (which he just reads). A few times he couldn't even solve his own problem that he gave the class. I learned better by reading the book and doing the problems. Also use the tutoring center!!!!
Definitely worth avoiding. Mooningham's lectures are very slow paced and the notes mostly come straight from the textbook. He doesn't explain topics very deeply so you will need to teach yourself a lot of the material. He often goes off topic and talks about things that have nothing to do with the class.
Mooningham is a great guy, I don't know why a lot of students say he is a professor to beware. I would take him again. He cares about the students!
Mooningham is super slow and hard to understand. He doesn't always teach you how to do the problems so the tutoring center is a must. At the beginning of class he will ask to go over problems but just go to tutoring center. He gets lost when doing problems which makes things even more confusing. Pop quizzes are frequent. Tests are HARD.
takes forever to get through lessons and doesn't always follow the course guide and gets behind on his schedule. At the beginning of the semester he said be prepared for pop quizzes but we only had 4. His test are difficult if you aren't good at math, in general don't take him if you want a math teacher who actually teaches you.
He's such a sweet old man, and does care, he just is not the best at explaining things clearly. He curves every single exam and the overall grade at the end, which was super nice. It really wasn't that hard of a class, the lectures just go slow sometimes. He is really funny, super friendly and caring.
Dr. Morningham doesnt do a very good job at teaching students during class. Just like any class, the amount of time and effort you put into a class, thats how well youll do. This is a hard class and so going to the tutoring center is a must. He tends to curve grades quite a bit and so passing shouldnt be too much of an issue.
This is possibly the worst professor at SVSU. He will sit in his chair and read from the book and do hardly any problems on the board. He makes the tests super hard and have nothing to do with what you learn in class. Avoid at all costs!
Avoid him at all costs! He is very hard to understand, and mumbles a lot. He does curve the test, which is great. You learn more by teaching yourself so attendance does not matter. He sits in his chair and tries to lecture but he is not loud so he can not be heard. What he write on the board is pretty much impossible to read. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!!
He doesn't teach at all. He does problems on the board but you can't read his handwriting or hear what he is saying. Most of the time he gets to the end of the problem and he did the problem wrong. Except to be very confused and teach yourself all the material. He does grade on a curve but it doesn't help much as you don't even understand anything.
I strongly recommend trying to get another teacher for this class! He is late everyday, takes him around 10 minutes to set up, then only reads off a pre-made power point. He rarely does practice problems with us and often doesn't grade homework, only tests are in the grade book. He sometimes falls asleep in class and you will be teaching yourself.
As a person, he seems like a great guy. But as a professor, he doesn't even actually teach. He just makes up questions or grabs them at random from the book. He then just does the problem, and when you ask to explain he mumbles and cant explain well at all. He curves tests but it doesn't help if you are not learning anything from him to begin with.
Mumbles all the time. Super hard to understand. Does all the problems wrong. You will teach yourself all of the information so your better off not going to class.
Mooningham seems a good guy, but I was not able to pass his class last semester and the time I knew I had to retake the class, he was the only option... Again. I am currently in his class and it is not any better. He mumbles, has sloppy hand writing, and cannot hear. Unless you enjoy teaching yourself from a textbook, avoid this class at all cost.

Dr. Mooningham is hands down the worst professor I have taken at SVSU. He mumbles, doesn't answer questions, and barely teaches the content he is supposed to. If you're looking to spend thousands of dollars to watch youtube videos to grasp concepts the professor should be teaching, Mooningham is for you! If not, avoid at all costs.
Worst professor or teacher I have taken. Tests were the only things graded, and the problems were much harder than the practice problems. Can't understand what he is saying or read his writing. He can't hear, see, or read writing. He showed up 10 minutes late and unprepared everyday. Do not take this class. If you have to, do not go to lectures.
Just watch YouTube and figure out the material by yourself because you won't get anything useful from lecture. Only reason people go to class is pop quizzes, which affect the grade a decent amount. As with every math class in SVSU, most people will do terrible, and because he curves, putting in some effort will land you an A.
He's probably the oldest person on the planet and by no means a good professor. However, I would recommend taking his classes because he teaches straight from the book. That means you can work on anything you want during class and if there is an exam coming up just study from home out of the book. It's kind of a blow off class but you still study.
Good luck if you take him, he's always late, can't use technology, you can't hear him or read his writing. Doing math in this class is like shooting in the dark.
Doesn't teach. Puts textbook pages on wall, mumbles incoherently, then switches pages. You'll pass math with him, but you won't LEARN anything outside of what you would learn reading the textbook. He is a fine example of how hard it is for a teacher to get fired when they have tenure. So buy a gradehis class or learn and earn gradesomeone else
The only grades in the book are tests so you have to do well. His lectures arent very helpful so know what chapter your learning and teach yourself from the book.
Was always mumbling in class. Was not prepared to teach. Never explained what he was teaching on the board.
Do NOT take prof Mooningham unless you absolutely have to. I had to transfer out of his class about 3 weeks in for numerous reasons. Every day he was about 10 minutes late, and then we didn't end up starting class for like another half hour and then after the half hour he barely even talked about math. He barely taught which made it very difficult
