Great history teacher even if you hate history.

Moretta has a great teacher style. There is alot of reading but the test are not hard. We read 1 main text book and 3 mini novels throughout the semester. Attend ALL the review sessions, even though it is not publicized you will get points on final avg.

Great prof. you will never be bored at class and he does great job at explaining what happen and why things happen. The test are not hard but you have to read to make an A. (when he finished his last lecture for the semester people clapped! take him!)

Every lecture I looked forward to going to!!! The TA'S are the BEST...THEY DO WHAT THEY CAN TO HELP YOU!!!!! One word sums up the class....AWESOME!!!!

Excellent teacher - lots of personality, very knowledgeable, makes the material interesting, etc. Take an honors class with him if you can; he's a hard essay grader, but he's willing to work with you, and you will learn A LOT.

Great teacher!!! Made a usually boring class intesting and fun to go to. Very outgoing teaching style. The TA's were a huge help. Chances for extra credit and other help was offered. You can't fail!

His lectures are a big help and he is very willing to give you assistance if you ask for it. If you participate and show up, you can be sure you'll do fine.

If you don't like writing, Do not take moretta. Besides that he is a great professor and good friend if you get to know him. Will help you whenever he can.

He is a relaly good teacher and makes history as interesting as possible. He grades essays pretty hard without giving any guidlines, and essays are the only work that you do for this course.

He is an awesome teacher. I hated history but he has made it really interesting. I didn't expect to learn anything but I have. He only grades our essays so they have to be really good.

Dr. Moretta is a cool guy most of the times. DO NOT expect his essays to be a breeze, he does expect alot from you! HE did get pissed off just the other day, screaming at us and calling us names!!! Other than a minor mood swing, this professor is cool!

He is very funny, and really tells it like it is. You will do alot of writing in his class, and he expects alot. If you don't do the reading assignment he will get pissed off and cuss out everyone. I enjoyed his class but, DO NOT ****him off.

This is only my first semester and I can truthfully say he is the BEST professor on campus!! He makes class so interesting and he is very funny. He likes George Washington a little too much but he really does know what he is talking about. He teaches it as he goes not really going at any set pace.

awesome lectures. you wont fall asleep! hate his exams and his essays. he makes you buy 5 books. books will cost you at least $200 or more. grades hard on essays. ALOT of reading. no curves, but do give extra credit. if u r a crammer n hate essays, dont take him.

Dr. Moretta is a cool prof. but his assignments can be very hard. If you can not make time to read, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes you buy 5 diff books and u will read all. Doesn't matter if your class is behind, u will read all.

He is pretty cool, so cool his classes fill up fast, so better hurry. Lots of books ,but good TA's to help you. He does what he says, so no surprise crap. Just do what you got to do, and he'll help you. If you can't read or study, consider another teacher.........really...choose another........

Very good teacher. Keeps your head up and your mind moving. Makes you laugh, has fun with the class. Lots of reading though. He'll push back dates but, it'll end up piling all over you in the end. Great teacher with quite a bit of reading - but, very good educational and fun reading.

very good orator, gets off topic alot but always comes back. Very expensive books, always new additions, does History change that often? Score points, talk about Baseball.

No bs, lectures are straight foward and funny. If you can't make lectures don't take him since tests are mostly lecture. A lot of reading but easy reading. The only bad side would be the TA, if you're stuck with a strict one really bad luck. Extra credit assignments and perfect attendance bonus.

He makes History exciting. I actually remember what he taught...its great. But he's strict. Dont bring cell phones or wear other college's apparrel b/c he'll kick you out, but other than that, its interesting.

fun teacher.but dont believe that his tests are straight out of his lectures.if you just want to pass the class you could relay on the lecture, otherwise you have to read the book. lots of outside readings.I made a B+, after the extra credit i did. your grade depends on your TA and what they expect.

Makes a person want to learn History

Really good teacher. Funny and keeps you interested. There's quite a bit of reading, but the (m/c)tests are relatively easy if you take notes and read. (Essay tests are a bit harder.) And if you have Angie as the TA, it's even better.

an extremely helpful teacher especially if you have no interest in history in the first place. kinda got annoying when he assumed we were all idiots who didn't know 3syllable words, but he's a true educator. the TAs are pretty ridiculous and condescending...not helpful at all.

Made class interesting. Although a lot of extra reading, tests are easy if you take good notes and everyone is capable of getting an A.

He is really cool and funny and his lectures are straight forward. Angie types notes and lets us copy them but when we look at maps and stuff and it stays up there and we don't get to see what she writes, its bad and she needs to stop doing that.But overeall i like the class and its enjoyable. He makes us laugh a lot.

He likes to talk about his daughters and baseball a lot - pay attention to these little silly lectures because one might just happen to be an extra credit question on the exam!

Very clear and will sometimes postpone tests til later dates!!!

good lectures....makes them intersting and jokes around....took class spring 04 only thing i didnt like about it was when he made the TA's give lecture (i think it was only a week)....was a lil confusing since we were all used to him lecturing...over all...fun and easy class...recomend!!

wonderful crazy old man. he spits a little , and there are assigned seats. but its worth it. his ta's are a little nuts.

I love this guy!!! thats by far the most interesting class i have this semester!.....theres lots of notes to take, but i bring my labtop...so its super easy.

He's an excellent teacher

LOVED MORETTA! It was the first time I ever paid attention in a history class...he made everything interesting. I wish there were more professors and classes like his for beginning freshman. There was work involved and reading, but the class lectures were always interesting and great!

This teacher is good at clarifying things and letting u understand, but there is alot to read in this class, and the essays make it even more difficult. If you hand take notes, u have to be fast, its alot easier if u have a laptop for this class. Goes by fast.

"I mean come on, it's history how interesting can it get" NO, MORETTA MAKES THIS CLASS SO INTERESTING. his lectures are very clear and helpful, assigned seats, ta's kinda blah, and lots of reading, but the class is worth it.

every lecture has something funny and interesting. i enjoy every lecture because he is a funny guy and speaks with clarity. test arent that easy unless u read the book and he grades very hard on essays but the TAs grade a bit easier than him. ego kind big but its funny. if you enjoy reading a lot take his class. if u dont u can still make a B or C!

His TAs type notes for students on the overhead while he lectures. It is important to read all of the books, take numerous tests, and essays. Also gives you a chance to earn extra credit, especially for showing up in class without being late or skipping for the whole semester. You will be assigned a seat. He makes a big deal about cheating in class

Moretta is realllly good history teacher. ive always hated history, but he somehow made it interesting to go to class. only thing i didnt like was havin to go to class everyday.. but then u get extra credit for it. if u study hard, you'll do fine in the class. and when i say fine, i mean liek a B+ cause i didnt study hard at all, n i made an A-

I took this class Fall 2005 and moretta is a great guy, the TA's are very helpful and smart, the one thing i hate about the class is the pressure to stay awake (he'll embarrass you in front of the entire class of a few hundred students) and READING THE STUPID BOOKS. very HARD essays and VERY HARD TESTS. great teacher but difficult too much reading!

Great teacher, very interesting. Essays and exams are plentiful though very easy. Go to the reviews they definitely help ALOT. At the reviews TA's outline everything you need for any tests/essays. Recommend taking him!

I took this history about 5 years ago - absolutely the most amazing professor I ever had. I hated history before I took it. After a month - I was bringing my friends in to listen to his lectures. haha - just so they'd get amazing information delivered in such an amazing way. I love you Moretta.

He is the best History teacher for these two classes that I know of. He is funny and his TA's are useful if you get in touch with them. He gives a lot of extra credit. I made a B+ 1st semester and an A second.

I'm not a fan of history, but Dr. Moretta made it very interesting. He gives a lot of extra credit and has very helpful TAs. If you go to the review sessions for tests you should do fine on exams BUT as for the essays you must read! He wrote most of the books so he's able to tell if you read or not.

Dr. Moretta understands what makes the average student listen, and thus fills his history lectures with thrilling visual actions, and heartwrenching dramatizations. Every lecture is an absolutley entertaining spectacle for all the senses. Dr. Moretta is hands down one of the most colorful speakers at the university of houston.

even though some people may think hes obnoxious, his jokes will keep you laughing. i love the way he teaches. best US hist teacher i have ever had in my life. i understood everything. he understands the students. his first 3-4 tests are multiple choice and so is his final, thats waay different from the other teachers :)

(HONORS) Moretta knew what he was talking about. Interactive class environment and in depth discussions into 5 books with about 5 papers. No written tests. It was a pleasure being in this class learning more about the colonization of America and the Slave Power. Cares about you and your grades.

I took Honors US History 1378... He's a VERY interesting lecturer; I enjoyed his class very much. The essays assigned are kind of hard, but he's a fair grader. Take him if you like to write.

Awesome professor. Awesome TA's. Moretta will never bore you with his lectures, and the TA's provide you with a thorough review before EACH test. You do have to read three relatively boring novels, which is more reading than some history classes. Overall, 3 multiple choice exams, 3 essay exams, and a choice of extra credit. Great class.

I took his Honors hist. Reading was interesting, Discussions were fun and they taught me soo much. If you don't like to talk in class, you might have trouble with this one. He makes history interesting and gives lots of opportunities for help with papers. A little unorganized, He saved all the papers and most of the reading till the end.

I hope that, one day, Dr. Moretta will grow sidewhiskers. It would complete me. Fantastic, funny, endearing lectures, even more fun if you can get him going on baseball. His papers are pretty much just telling him what he told you with a little bit of your own opinion thrown in. Extra points for using his favorite phrases. Great guy. TAKE HIM.

AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!! seriously he is one of the best you can get. class layout is disscussion and if you dont read the books he can get aggitated (which isnt pretty). verry approchable. NO TESTS! we had 4 essays and he never gives below a C-. Participation is a big key so make sure you go to class. but the class is fun already so attendence is ok.

Honors 1378 is all discussion based and essay based. Take good notes because your papers will be much easier to write if you have structured notes. Participate in class and read the books. Do not purchase ALL books at the beginning of the year, he won't get through all the books... usually about 3 out of the 5 he assigns.

Moretta is really easy going and his stories are hilarious. Class discussion is really the class filling in blanks for him and it's fun. Easy A if you attend class and take notes. Essay based, no tests, and we go over EVERYTHING you need for the essays in class. Don't buy all the books at once!

Moretta is AWESOME! He makes things interesting. Attendance is not mandatory but beneficial;4 essays over the four books you read and he goes over the stuff you read in class and discusses it. If you take notes, you will benefit in your papers. He isn't the easiest grader on papers but it's impossible to fail this class. I'm taking him again.

Dr. Moretta made learning about History relevant, fun, and interesting. His class had essays and multiple choice tests. Do your part and you'll do well! It's been years I had this professor but what I learned from him is be positive, be energetic and be brave. Great professor! Hope to read more of his books.

I hate history, but he makes it so much easier to sit through an hour of lecture. He isn't afraid to speak his mind and he is absolutely hilarious. He also refers to the class as gang which I thought was adorable. Also you don't need the book if you listen in class. The TA added 20 points to your grade if you attended every class.

By far one of my favorite professor's of all-time! He's hilarious and extremely knowledgeable of the material he teaches. He truly cares about his students and he always goes on a rant about political things which is hilarious but overall great guy, easy class, just make sure you read everything he gives you and you'll get an A.

Dr. Moretta is incredibly helpful. He makes coming to class fun and gives great lectures that are engaging and interesting. Essays are straight to the point, although he is tough, he gives great feedback.

The best history professor i've ever had, 2 tests mainly focused on his lectures, the second test you have to read a book which is an easy read, just show up and take good notes and its an easy A. His final we had to read a book(which is very interesting). He makes the class really fun and i was always looking forward to be in his class.

Take him. 3 chapter tests and 1 test on a book he wrote. Thats it. Fair grader, just make sure you write a lot for the essay portion on the test.

Dr. Moretta was amazing he cares about his students. During this time it can be hard for some of us to have online class but he understood if you had things going on and worked with you. His exams aren't tough theres about 25 questions and an essay. If you do take this class make sure to go into detail on your essays explain all the whys!

Winter 4 week course. 3 grades, 3 exams. No more than 30 MC questions easily accessible online and the other half was a 750-1000 word essay. The test were about 3hrs long and you are given a hint for the prompt up to a week prior to testing. Heavy grader on the writing part but he honestly just wants your personal opinion on the topic given

Dr. Moretta is HIGHLY knowledgeable and HIGHLY inteliigent. He definitely made me feel respected and valued in the class. He is an old-school Democrat so, if you're Republican, watch out, but he is fair in his beliefs and critiques. I wish I could take him again! He's a WONDERFUL professor and what all faculty should aspire to be like.
