Easy class

He's awesome.
He's helpful w/ homework ?'s but he flies through the material. If you are good at then math then take him. If you don't then don't take his class b/c he goes to fast. Plus the tests are only like 8 questions so if u screw up your screwed
Very easy, but like someone else said, tests are do or die. Make sure you go to class, I screwed up by not going very often.
The best math teacher I have had in college. Clear, easy to understand and easy to read his notes on the board. He did not go too fast; I received an A and was able to skip the final exam.
He was very unclear and not very helpful. I recommend NOT taking him for 104. He expresses no interest in helping students pass and is intellectually arrogant.
He is good at going over material until students understand it, but as someone esle said, he is extremely intellectually arrogant. The tests are usualy less than 10 questions so if you don't know the material you are pretty much screwed. However, I do recommend him if you struggle with math.
do your homework, he tells you what questions in the book are similar to test q's. very easy dont be stupid. i had a class that over lapped w/ his and showed up 45 minutes late to class and got a b. sit in the front dont talk to people just listen. he tells you what to study. and drops worst test.
good class
John was a great teacher, he is really good at explaining things, and he is really goofy. He is the best math teacher i have had so far, at least you can understand him, and he doesn't have an accent....
Very unclear and confused during some lessons. Can't teach too early in the morning without coffee.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had. Explains everything clearly and thoroughly and is willing to go over any problem you like or answer and question you have. No memorization of formulae.
May be the single most arrogant person at EMU. Thinks his students are socially retarded. He is an OK teacher. His class is very easy, I think that 118 in general is easy, so I would recommend not taking him just because he it would probably feed his ego somehow...
He explains things very well. He is funny and laid back. I like not having to memorize formulae. He gives extra credit and drops lowest test scores.
great laid back guy, will go over problems until you understand them. not like other professors who are worried about completing certain required amount of chapters. Good guy.
Yea..I agree he is very arrogant...dont bother going to his office hours cause hes not much help anyways..his tests are not that easy...he thinks his reviews will help for the tests but the tests end up different then what he tells you to study....so I guess its up to u to decide.
I was very happy with this class. I am not the strongest math person out there by any means but I was able to get an A. He would diss the public school system and their inability to teach math well enough. He also made quiet remarks and faces to the class and would rarely look us in the eyes. Aside from that he was A GOOD math teacher!
Although he does take time to explain problems, his math 105 class is more hassle than it needs to be. The tests are largely story problem exams that sometimes have very little to do with the material covered from the chapter (sometimes even HE has trouble explaining them). Office hours are not at all flexible. He's funny so that's one good thing.
THE WORST math teacher I had. Does not put on the test what he says, very Arrogant and full of himself. Most the class had a very bad expierence. I did ok because I am strong in math but I felt sorry for the people that werent. DO NOT TAKE. If you do take him, study for the whole section, not just what he says thats, GREAT advice I wish I had.
I thought he was very clear in his teaching. He moves at the rate of the class. If you ask questions, he'll go over the problem until you get it. The only thing he grades are the chapter tests and final exam, no homework. I thought he was alright. I would take him again.
Even though he is helpfull if you need it, his tests are rediculous. There are 4 tests a semester and they are the ONLY thing your graded on. And what he puts on the tests are largely not waht was covered in class. Watch out for the tests if you take this prof!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! As far as personality went he seemed ok, but as he teacher he sucked. He was constantly getting confused and getting answers wrong. On top of that everything he tells you to study is never on the test!!! I never even want to take another math class thanks to him!!
Very good professor. If you don't get an A in his class it's because you are lazy. Do the homework and what he says to study and you'll be golden. If you work he notices and will help you out. He has a dry sense of humor, which is pretty funny...to me.
Class was really easy. Professor was very thorough and helpful. Didn't collect homework. Attendance was not necessary but is important if you want to do well. If you worry about taking math, don't, just make sure you try to take it with him.
He's awesome. Makes this class fail proof. Although attendance isn't mandatory I would suggest going. He'll offer extra credit if you ask. If you need this math class and you're not a math major, take it with him for a good grade.
Not that great of a professor. I don't like math though, so I guess I'm biased. But, he lacks social skills and is a little weird... Not a bad class for math though...
He is very bad at answering questions. when people would ask questions in class he would start figuring it out then someone would tell him he was wrong.. i do not like classes that are diisorganzied.. he is very disorganized.
HATED HIM! Horrible teacher. Didnt teach us anything that we were tested on. Our class confronted him and he just laughed at us and told us oh well.
Great professor! Very easy, funny and helpful! Lets you use a cheat seet on exams, no homework but gives you assignments to practice for exams! Offers an easy extra credit assignment! I highly recommend taking him for Math 110!!
I am taking him for the 2nd time. I failed his class last semester because I failed all the tests and exams. He doesn't require homework but it is recommend that you do it. I'm currently still failing even though I am trying my hardest.
I hate math but this professor made it a lot more enjoyable. He's really funny and actually makes math interesting. He lays expectations out very clearly and offers extra credit. The homework is optional but I recommend doing it because it will definitely help you to do better on the tests.
Only class I have failed in my life. Professor would rather show off his fantastic vocabulary and command of English language than teach math. Unhelpful, and downright rude. He would avoid questions, claiming we should understand it already, and when nearly the whole class failed the midterm, he called us stupid outright. Avoid at all costs.
He is a great teacher. He has no problem explaining the same thing 10 different ways until everyone that is paying attention understands. Homework not collected but it if you do it, you will do much better on the tests. He gives a few opportunities for extra credit which is helpful.Really nice approachable professor, but has no patience for rudenes
Great Math teacher. best I've ever had.
Final grade is based on 4 exams & exta credit. The Math Lab's a great place to go if you need help & the tutors give EXCELLENT help & I STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest you go there. I WOULD NOT take a class w/ him teaching it again, EVER. DON'T TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES UNLESS ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING.
4 tests and extra credit. Very easy material. You get to use a full piece of paper, front and back, on the tests. How much easier can you get? Funny guy as well.
This guy is the best teacher that i have had at eastern. He moves to the speed the class is ready for. HE lstens and hes funny. HATES the public school system make sure you bring that up :). grades appropriatley. good class over all.
he does have a sense of humor but this will often ruin your attention span on the material. test arent that hard they just contain so few problems that if you miss one that worth a lot of points your grade can suffer
Having hated math, I dreaded this class. However he is my favorite math teacher I have ever had. His sense of humor made class fly by. I loved him as a professor and loved his class. Best teacher I have had at EMU. Recommend him HIGHLY.
tests are very different than notes taken in class. the questions appear to be easy, but are tricky. this prof is very boring and full of himself. attendance is not required. don't buy the book, waste of money.
He is always 5-10 minutes and he is like sorry I couldn't find a parking spot. Here is a idea, get here earlier. He is full himself. He keeps talking about his daughter who took AP Calculus exam in 9th grade. He does teach well, he is clear and easy to understand but the test is like 4 times harder than the homework, very tricky.
Great Teacher, has a good grasp on actually teaching you material as opposed to flying through material just for the sake of doing so. Show up for class and take notes he gives you everything you need to do well. He's a funny guy so it makes class fly by quick. take him for math 110
Completely inept and void of even an ounce of teaching philosophy. Tests are not to reiterate what you know but insidious(tricky) at the expense of the student learning. His tone his condescending and his presence an injustice for those paying such exuberant prices for a class to be taught by a child with a complex to furtively assert his worth.
Inept. Zero teaching philosophy. Insidious tests that do not reiterate the students understanding but are only there to confuse the student more because the child-teacher has a complex that must be combatted with a condescending misconception of his value. Don't pay for classes to be taught by clowns. Don't ask questions. He enjoys misleading you.
Do yourself a favor and select another math teacher for math 110. His final grades are only based on test scores to determine your final grade. He allows you a cheat sheet during the test. Only to discover when you get to the test, your cheat sheet is useless because he has made the test so difficult. He's always late to class. Find another teacher
I thought he was a great teacher. He was very clear on explaining. If you have any questions he will help but chances are he explained it so well you wont need to ask. The only grades in the class are grades on tests but just do the homework and you should do fine. I'm not very good at math but since I take lots of notes, it helps me a great deal.
GOOD TEACHER! He isn't as bad as everyone says on here. He takes a lot of time to explain things. His tests are hard, but as long as you study you should be fine! And if you get above a 90% in his class you don't have to take the final. He is also a good guy!
He only mentioned his daughter once! lol But in all seriousness he's a good teacher. If you reach out to him, he is willing to help you out.
Not as bad as everyone says. He's snarky, yes, but upfront about what he expects. If you do the homework there's no reason you wouldn't do well on the exams (Which are the only real thing graded). If you average a 90%+ then you can skip the final and get an A in the course. I enjoyed the class.
I have only had him for two months. We move really slow, it took us over a month to get through one chapter. He always lets us out early. He is usually late to class. He sometimes confuses you when he's trying to teach you stuff. He asks you the tricky questions on the tests, but he goes over what is going to be on the it with you.
I like his personality a lot, but I'm at odds with a few of his grading policies. You must come to class if this stuff does not come super easy to you. Beware of the tests, some questions are trickier than you'd expect. You do get a cheat sheet though. No mandatory homework, but I recommend doing it.
The worst.
Superior instructor, outstanding educator. Makes math easy for those who have a hard time of it. Enjoyed going to class. Makes math crystal clear.
Morgan does a fantastic job of explaining course material. He's very patient with students who have a difficult time understanding concepts. He allows students to use cheat sheets on tests, which I felt helped me learn the material better. Questions on tests can sometimes be tricky, but he's willing to clarify if you ask him. Great math teacher.
Exams don't have many questions but he is EXTREMELY helpful to students who ASK HIM QUESTIONS if they have them. He allows one page of notes on exams. He assigns homework but doesn't require you to turn it in, he just answers questions if you have them the next class and moves on to the next section. If you need help on homework - USE THE TUTORS!
John Morgan is the worst professor I've ever had in my life. He never comes to class on time (even on exam days), openly refuses to teach mathematic definitions (which seems good at the time but will come back and bite you when you take more advanced classes). He's extremely boring and also is very unhelpful. Don't take any class with this guy.
I hate this man with a burning passion. I took his class and understood all of the material up until he gave us the test. The way he worded problems on the test and the way he worded them when we learned them was COMPLETELY different! He even admits that he will trick you and he insults your intelligence on a daily basis, very full of himself.
He's very sarcastic and witty, and a lot of my classmates get offended at his humor. Despite this, he seems like a nice enough person. His tests are tricky, but if you ask questions, he'll help.
Has a very dry sense of humor. Class consist of 3-4 test and that is it. You get a full page of notes for the test. When reviewing for test he will tell you pretty much every question on there. Be careful though, he makes all of the question tricky. If you do the homework and ask a couple questions you should be fine.
This class seems easy. but the way he grades is awful. Exams were maybe 10 questions. Final grade was the average of your 4/5 exams. He sucks at explaining things and likes to argue with students.
He is a very funny teacher, and is very educated. His lessons make everything look easy, until you try to do them for yourself. He gives homework but doesn't grade it, as long as you keep up with the hw and pay attention in class you should be good. He is very helpful and always willing to explain things further.
Nice guy, but sometimes bad at explaining things. You don't need to come to class to learn, but he bases test dates on when the class has gotten through the material, so you will NOT know when tests are without attending. I thought tests were fair (even with trick questions) but note to DRCCATE lab folks: he is uncooperative with the DRC system.
Very clear in explaining content and explains what to expect from the start. Very few tests, but in order to pass you have to attend lectures, take notes, and do the non-graded homework. Also, ask clarifying questions when you need to. To put it in his words: "You paid for this class, so you should be able to ask as many questions as you want."
Pretty easy class. Book is an older version you can find cheap. Homework is never checked but it's good prep for tests. Only 3 or 4 tests in a semester. He lets you bring a full sheet of paper written front and back to help with tests (formulas, symbols, etc.) Didn't understand his wording on a test and he didn't give me the points back. Overall ok
Your grade is based on 3-4 exams and that's it. His exams are literally 10 questions long, roughly. If you miss one question you're kinda screwed. He words the test questions really awkwardly to the point where you have to dissect the question. Hes condescending since this is very easy, basic math.. Yet still makes it way too difficult.
For one I failed this class the first time and had to take it again. He made made jokes about people failing. He has a mean sense of humor and sarcasm. His tests are worded completely different than the homework he assigns which is optional. The book he uses is about 15 dollars online. But if you are not good at math choose a different professor
During lecture the class seems to be so easy, but then he tricks you by making the tests hard!. Allows a full page, back to back cheat sheet. He makes you feel like an idiot when you get questions wrong. My best advice, DO THE HOMEWORK over and over again!! Also on your cheat sheet write it in your own words so you understand it better. Tests are
Class was very difficult for me. Not the right teacher for someone who doesn't have math come easy to them. Would not recommend him.
I wasn't too fond of his teaching style. For the most part I went by what the book said and not by how he taught. He cracks jokes that aren't usually funny, lol. But he is very willing to help and answer questions.
He's really smart, but will straight up tell you that he doesn't care about teaching this class which makes you not want to go. Your grade is based on 4 exams, that's it, and his lectures are confusing. He does allow a front to back cheat sheet though. My advice? Buy the book, learn from that, and don't take his class if you get confused easily.
I usually get great grades in math classes but this class was horrible. He will have you do homework from the book, which is optional, but even if you do the homework the tests will be different from it. My class took 3 tests and 1 exam and they were not easy. My advice? Don't take this class. If I could go back I wouldn't have.
Worst class ive ever taken. He's SO rude. There were times where I wanted to yell at him and walk out. The only grades in the class are 3 tests and if you mess one up youre screwed. Has an unclear way of teaching that left me so confused a lot. Doesn't email, post/give grades, and he doesn't say what the class it out of to figure it out yourself.
I know he gets a bad rep, but I think you just gotta be willing to reach out to him and say you don't get it if you don't, or ask wth if you bomb a test. He literally TELLS you exactly what to put on your cheatsheet and then tries to get you to connect the dots on your own by mixing it up. Don't expect carbon copies of test questions he offers u
This was the worst professor I have ever had.. I do not know how he still has a job (honestly). Math 110 is a easy subject, but he makes it very confusing. There are only 3-4 exams and your grade is based solely on those exams. He does not grade homework or give extra credit, so you are basically screwed if you bomb one exam. Do not take this prof!
I found Professor Morgan to have a huge heart. He wants his student to do well but you have to work for it. I suggest the math lab. Yes some have found him hard to take but it is you that must make the effort. Nothing worth while achieving is going to be easy. If you do not know ask. Just do not sit there and blame the professor.
I'm not typically one to write bad reviews but this class was awful. I went to class everyday and did all the homework and still didn't do well. Test are very hard and are your only grades. Prof Morgan was not helpful or willing to accommodate struggling students. Class average for tests were between 30%-60%.
This course is difficult... with this teacher at least. If you have to take this course then do not take it with this teacher. If you have no other options, make sure you go to his office hours, ask for help in class, ask as many questions as you need too and ignore is smart comments. He will warn you and tell you people often fail his class.
I wouldn't recommend that ANYONE takes this class. I have to withdraw to keep my grades up. He doesn't grade ANYTHING except tests. If you aren't a good test taker you WILL fail this class.
Assigns homework but is never taken for grade. Doesn't take attendance but you won't pass unless you go to class. You do the homework and ask questions and you'll be fine. He wants you to ask questions if you don't understand. Overall fine prof. Total grade based off of 3 or 4 exams and final.
I didn't hate the guy. At times, he could be funny and he always made sure we understood the material to his knowledge. He expected you to ask questions when you didn't understand, and not many did. The math itself is easy, but he made the tests (4 in total) trickier to see how well you really understood. He was very political in class, too.
Spends more time making sarcastic political comments than on course material. Was late to every class meeting. Not helpful. Not accessible out of class. Although he is an adorable old man and his jokes are sometimes funny. By far not worth failing a class.
Worst. Teacher. I've. Ever. Had. Without a doubt one of the most condescending, narcissistic, sexist, homophobic jerks I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. He somehow always finds a way to unnecessarily include his god awful thoughts and beliefs in his lessons, which have NOTHING to do with math. I hope I never have to see him again.
If you want to talk about religion and politics, take his class. Tests are worth 100% of your grade and there are only four of them, including the final. Good Luck!
I've always done very well in math classes and never got below an A until I took a class with John Morgan. The only three grades are consisted of three exams and the final. The average of the first exam was between 30-50 percent. After that it's impossible to bring your grade up. I would not recommend him because he makes everything so confusing.
I genuinely liked this professor. He is a great person and actually tries his best to help you. Although you don't have to do the homework, I strongly suggest it because it makes the tests easier.
Very stressful class. Requires a LOT of studying. He only grades the tests, but I recommend you do the homework. Ask a lot of questions. I studied over 12 hours for the second exam, and only got an 86 on it. This class requires a lot of time put into it. Make sure you go to class.
Your final grade is three tests and your final exam. The tests he gives are very short so if you miss a few you fail. He goes over everything in class and then the test is nothing like what you learned. Constantly bashes public school kids, always late to class. Nearly impossible to get a hold of outside of class, he never ever uses any technology.
One of the worst professors, you go at "the classes pace" because of this we were only graded on 3 tests including the final. I failed the 1st test like everyone else when he specifically says everyone fails the first test. I got 100% on the next two and still ended up with a C+, AVOID THIS PROFESSOR WITH ALL COST, had to retake due to major
Will go on rants about how the government is not ran properly. Blames the class for the failing average but will not try to do anything to help. If you take this class you will have to teach yourself everything and often that will not enough. You WILL regret if you take his class, I promise you.
Would go on rants about how the students are taking up parking spots, blame us if the class doesn't do well, asked for help and extra credit and he would not help at all, was late on givng grades out on time. Don't take the class with him at all.
