He's a really good teacher. If you go to class & do the study questions that hegives you at the end of each class there's no reason you shouldn't do well. He even offers study sessions 3 times a week with his GA. good teacher!

The first day he tells you that this class is going to be super hard and to prepare yourself well. It was an easy class...all the tests are pretty easy and you write 2 in class essays. Overall the class wasn't hard to pass and I barely studied. Take him!

I love John Morris!!! He was my fave teacher this year!! He is soo passionate about American govt and just a great guy! He tells a lot of stories but I dont mind...he pretty much spoon feeds you the material but I would still read the book...There are 4 tests and two writing assignments...he even let us turn them in in size 16 font!!

He is a wonderful teacher. You shouldn't have problems with the tests if you study. Each day after you take notes he gives you "study questions" which are on the test & is very willing to help and encourages you to come by his office if you need anything. I would recommend him to anyone who does't know much about politics because he makes it fun!

what a wonderful guy. easy to talk to and will help you with whatever he can. hes willing to go out on a limb to get you through the class. hes so kind and doesnt make you feel stupid. He offers 20pts extrea credit. All mult choice tests. :)

This has got to be one of the best profs that I have taken. He is nothing but good to all of his students, and he makes sure that you know the material. He allows you to debate and to really get into the subject matter. BE SURE TO TAKE HIM IF THERE ARE SEATS OPEN!

Two words: Story Time. During the first half an hour of class Mr.John Somerhill Morris encourages his students to talk & discuss anything they wish,from mud-covered ballet flats to the presidental election. The notes are easy, but the tests can be difficult. Overall, the class isn't horrible, but it can & will make you fall asleep...

Good Professor! Class discussions for the first 20 minutes of class about current issues. Loves the White Sox. Engage in the conversation. Uses powerpoint and the tests are over the notes, u don't really need a textbook. Easy A. Would take this prof. again.

Is very passionate in government and makes you at least interested in it as well. I hate government and didn't mind attending this class. Gives you 40-46 of the questions that will be on the tests and the answers. Must attend class though to get those answers.

He gives you the test questions and answers exactly as lecture. Write down the questions and what he says exactly, and you have a guaranteed 90 on every test. 10 questions come from the reading but they're common sense questions. Even if you miss a test, he lets you retake it. HE'S AWESOME!

One of the most passionate teachers on campus. He really knows his material and he does a great job relating to his students. If you ever have questions he is very happy to answer them and he strongly encourages participation. By far, one of my favorite teachers on campus, even though this was a really basic course.

The class is pretty easy. Like people have said, he talks a lot. Sometimes it's cool, since he's a nice/funny guy, but often it's frustrating, especially if you're in a hurry to be done with class. There's usually only 4 or 5 main points to get across, but he almost always takes the entire class period to get them done. Still, he's pretty good.

He is truly the best professor i have ever had! In a lecture hall of 60 students, he makes a point to know everyones name! I had such a wonderful learning experience in his class. I only wish a lot more professors at EIU would be more like him! He puts so much pride and effort into everything! If you put effort into his class, you'll get an an A!

Great teacher made the lessons fun and interactive for students. He loves his baseball to and would work that into some of his lectures which made it fun. Great teacher and very helpful and I will definitely take class from him again!

Very easy. You will never get out early. He is a nice guy but I got really annoyed how he would spend half of the class talking about sports.

Prof. Morris is a great guy and good teacher. He encourages class discussion and genuinely cares what his students think. He can be pretty funny at times and loves to talk about sports (esp. Whites Sox.) He tells personal stories a lot and likes talking about small towns and students' home towns. Tests are pretty easy but not a blow off either.

knows what he is talking about when it comes to Government. can get completely off-topic very easily, which is a nice break from the notes but can get a bit excessive. if you love sports you'll love him, if you love the White Sox he'll love you. tests are exactly the same as the notes. read the book, sometimes he throws in stuff you never discussed

Very easy teacher. Lecture format is simple, but with lots of side-stories, some of which have no relation to the material. Loves to talk. Very personable. He knew every single person's name in a giant lecture hall, where they were from and something about them. Essays are really easy. Tests are ok.

Mr Morris is a really easy teacher. He is all about making sure you pass and helping you out. One of the nicest people I have ever met! The whole class is just a lecture and each class he gives you questions that are use right on the test. So make sure you go to class and the tests will be easy. 4 tests and 2- one page writing assignment. Super easy!!

He was just awesome and very easy. If you never read the book you could easily get a B. He gives you more than half of the answers to your exams, during his lectures. John Morris where do i begin..he's an awesome professor knows what he is talking about and is funny. He makes classes interesting who would miss his class? His tests are super easy, he gives you the test questions and ALL you have to do is just study them. Tests are 50 multiple choice. no surprises, just attend lectures or make a buddy in the class

He is awesome! I truly thought this would be my hardest class at the beginning of the semester. It is now one of my easiest. He goes over 3-5 different things each class and tells you word for word what will be on the test. Study the notes he gives you in class and skim the book and it will be easy. Also, there are two easy writing assignments.

This man is amazing. I could talk about him forever. He is a must take. He makes class interesting on a topic most people find boring. He always plays music and his tests are directly from the notes. He gets to know his students by knowing everyones names and getting people involved. He is exceptionally wonderful an if you have the chance take him.

How does he not have a 5.0 for a rating? The best teacher I've ever had. Very clear with work and it isn't that hard. The best thing is that he really cares about the students. He tells great stories and tries to get everyone involved. I looked forward to going to every class. He is a MUST TAKE.

Mr. Morris is a great professor! Attendance is not mandatory, but highly encouraged. He gives test questions for every exam and as long as you look at the questions in the book, you'll pass. Super interesting guy and really made the class interesting. Would highly recommend.

As I write this, I'm a law student on a full-ride scholarship. My interest in the law was affected in no small way by Mr. John Morris' very inspired and effectual teaching in an introductory American Law class that I took in 2009. He's a great professor. Take him if you have the chance.

Professor Morris is a very caring guy. He pushes students to do their best and wants all of them to succeed. His lectures are very boring. All he talks about is his life. The only reason YOU HAVE to be at his lectures is because he gives you questions and answers that ARE on the test. Exams aremwhat make up your grade unless he offers E.C.

Instead of taking notes, he gives us study guide questions that are exactly on the test. Class usually ends in 30 minutes. I never went because I would go to his office hours and he'd give us the study guide will all of the questions for the entire section up until the next test. GREAT GUY! Would take all of his classes if I could.

Easily my favorite professor! He's such a happy and caring guy, his stories take up most of class, and he is always encouraging us to have facilitated political discussions. Gives out 5 questions and answers that will be on your test every class, by the end of the unit you have about 45/50 of the test questions. Got 103% & never opened my book!

He might very well have been my favorite teacher in my first semester! After the first test, he talked to me before class and said he could tell I didn't get the grade I wanted nor was used to getting. To help me out he printed me out the notes without me even asking and checked in with me after that test to tell me I had received the highest grade

Such an awesome guy. Just show up to class and youll pass. Youre given a textbook but I didnt look at that thing once all semester and I got an A in the class. Just make sure to write down the study guide questions and youll be golden!

He's the best government professor. He's so kind and caring and is willing to listen if you're having trouble in class or outside of it. The lectures are notes that need to be written down because they're going to be on the exams. The answers are given in class and he occasionally prints them out in case you missed out on them.

Mr.Morris may be one of my favorite professors ever, theres so many good things to say about him. Hes so genuine, kind and sincere. His class is so straight forward as well. He gives so many opportunities for extra credit so this class is hard to fail and tests are super easy too. Attending class isn't mandatory but going can really make your day.

Morris was AMAZING! If he taught more than one course I would take all of his classes. He gives SO MUCH extra credit, I literally got 28 extra credit points. Every class he gives you 5 study guide questions and the definitions, then he spends the rest of the time yapping about his wife and son or his dad.

John is an incredibly nice and fun professor. His class is incredibly easy and finds a way to relate politics to everyday people and issues. He is good about keeping his political biases out of his lessons.

Professor Morris makes this class a breeze. With his fun lectures, generous extra credit, and detailed study guides, it's easy to succeed. unstuck AI was a lifesaver for test prep.

Professor Morris is an absolute delight! I had him for American Government & the Constitution (2024). The majority of classes consist of taking a short amount of notes and listening to him tell stories. However, be aware that on exams he throws in some questions from the textbook, that are not touched on in class, no readings are assigned.
