Really didn't care for the class but he's a cool guy. Easy going and gives you every break he can. Took IS because every business major has to but from what I've heard, my class sounded a lot better than other professors. Would suggest him as a teacher for this or anything else he teaches
It's a lot of [pointless] work for a two credit class. He's a nice guy and helpful, but it's just a lot of work.
Excellent teacher, helpful, and gives you plenty of reasons why he's the best IS teacher for the essentials class.
Professor Muraski taught me a lot about current trends in the IS field. Being a non-trad student of the Nixon era, I had much to learn and Prof Muraski provided the practical, real-world knowledge and expertise that brought me up to speed - very helpful in my current job hunting endeavor.
Prof Muraski is an awesome teacher. I have talked to other students in this essentials class who are having a really hard time. Muraski is funny, and always willing to help. Would strongly suggest you take him!!!
Great class, I learned a lot and he was very flexible and laid back. The only problem is the Access Labs
Overall a good teacher, but it is ALOT of work with the Business Plan, Interview, Shark Panel, Presentations etc. We didn't get most of the large projects until like 5 weeks to end of semester.
John is a great guy, and overall the class is a good experience. He provides a lot of insights from his experiences in starting a business which prove to be helpful. The business plan is a lot of work, so pick your partners carefully. No need to buy the book. I would advise taking him for this class.
Great teacher, nothing to tasking, overall pretty interesting and a great class. I would definitely recommend taking him and this class.
Really enjoyed having him as a teacher. Does good job of bringing personal exp. into the class. Lecture class is not hard at all, but Access labs and the Access exam takes considerable amount of work/studying. Definitely take him for Bus311
Never even opened the textbook, all of the chapter slides are posted on D2L before lecture. Professors a nice guy. If you take the 3 hour class you'll rarely stay for more than half of the time. Pretty easy class overall if you're shooting for a B but if you want an A, good luck...
I recommend taking him. He is a nice guy and very helpful. Exams aren't hard if you look over lecture ppts & read the bk. The Access labs are time consuming, but Muraski does a good job of helping you on that. The twitter assignment wasn't that great, but easy points for tweeting.
Instruction was clear and business-useful. brought it real-world experience and displayed it in class. Class was reasonably challenging and required putting in a reasonable amount of effort to do well. There's no skating by on just lecture notes.
This was a great class with an awesome professor. I learned a lot. It was a lot of hard work to do the business plan project but definitely worth it, and presenting Shark Tank style was really neat and a great way to get honest input from classmates.
John was an awesome teacher, the access portion of this class is not exactly a walk in the park but John went above and beyond to help everyone, often staying late (helped me at 9:30pm one night) and checking the sage computer lab. Class definitely takes work but it is manageable and enjoyable, and the material is really useful.
Good teacher very helpful. Class can be difficult but seems to be better of two teachers that each this course. Just need to go to class and look over text book briefly before exams
Great teacher! He was very helpful and email response time was awesome if you had any questions about Access. Exams were easy enough, as long as you take note of his study guide that he prepares which is very helpful. Access labs do take some time but it's well worth getting to know more about the program. Twitter assignment was interesting as well
Teacher made class fun by adding jokes and funny comments to lecture.
Very nice professor, always willing to help and gave good examples from his own business to help the students understand better. Lots of projects but he gives class time to work on them. Exam study guides go right along with the test. Overall good professor and would recommend him.
Great professor! Very willing to help and is a pretty easy grader as well! Access book is definitely needed! The secondary book is mostly covered in lectures so if you pay attentin you could probably get away without it :)
John is a good guy and professor, but the class stinks, its a lot of work for two credits and you have to read the book to do well on the exams
Personally, I thought the class was super easy. The Access labs were alright, but it's basically just reading through and doing the tutorials. I probably didn't attend a single lecture the last 5 weeks and I still got an A in the class. The lectures come straight from the book, so GET IT!!
Access assignments are time consuming, but fairly easy. Study for the Access exam though! Going to lecture is not necessary to get a good grade. Muraski is always willing to help and responds to emails very quick... which is super nice!
Muraski was always able to help. Responded to emails quickly. Just a lot of work. Really good teacher!
I like John! He's very helpful and responds quickly to emails! But to be honest this class is not fun at alllll! The access assignments suck.. the only good thing is if you don't get it right the first time you can resubmit, which definitely saved me. Its a lot of work for a 2 credit class! Exams are right from the text, study the vocab for exams!
I really really liked this professor. He was always willing to help and answered questions right away. His test are very reasonable just go to class and read the textbook and look over the powerpoints.
The class is extremely boring. The access exam is HARD and you HAVE to study for it. The other exams come right from the study guide and textbook, so get it and read. The homework assignments (papers) are nice grade boost and the access homework assignments are long but you have a chance to redo them if you don't get it right the first time.
This has to be one of the easiest courses so long as you've used MS Access before. I didn't show up 3/4 of the time and I still passed fine. The Access quiz is a little tough but the exams are completely covered with the study guides.
John was a great professor, but Access is a pain. Very time consuming for a 2 credit class. The exams are vocab heavy so if you know the vocab you will be fine. He posts study guides which mirror the exams quite well. The access exam is tough though (only worth 10%). Highly recommend him over the other IS professors.
Make sure you do the Access assignments for the final quiz, and look over the study guide for the two exams. I hardly ever went to class and got a B+. Really nice prof, but a little difficult to stay engaged in his class.
easy class no one shows up for lecture really should be 7 week course or take as an interim
Great class. loved it.
Great guy. Really loves teaching. Tests were difficult, but there are so many points that you can make it up. Homework assignments range anywhere from 2-4 hours. Lots of work for a 2 credit class, but so are all the other ones. This teacher is the man though!
Best Professor ever. Highly recommended!!
Good class. Professor uses multiple forms of teaching/learning. Excellent use of examples i.e real world executive speakers and from his expierence.
John Muraski did a fantastic job bringing his entrepreneurial experiences and connections into the classroom. If you are interested in entrepreneurship, you will get a lot out of his class.
Cares about students truly learning. Respects everyone in class and encourages but does not force participation. Overall, great professor.
He was a great professor. You have to read the textbook, but it is helpful when it comes to the exams. At first it seems like there was a lot of work for a 2 credit class, but at the end it really wasn't that bad.
He is a good professor. The class involves a lot of work and the tests are hard, but he has so many points that it is realistic to get an A or B. I got a 77%, 78%, and 82% on his three tests and still managed to get an A- !
The tests are super hard. There is a midterm, final exam and an Microsoft Access Database exam. I got C's on the two exams, and downright failed the access test. Yet, I ended up getting a B. He is a very helpful teacher. Even showed up to the lab at 9pm to just see if anyone was working on the weekly access homework and needed help
Exams are very difficult, but he does give study guides and curve scores on exams. Professor is very easy to ask questions to and is the fastest email responder and grader i have ever had
Bus 311. Tests were not that hard, but I studied. Class was interesting and changed my interest in subject positively. Due to the nature of our society, I highly suggest the class AND the instructor.
You can tell he has a passion for educating his students. Tests are not bad at all if you study, also he will curve if necessary. Workload isn't terrible.
Great professor. He has a passion for teaching and is always willing to help. I learned a lot from the "Microsoft Access" portion of the class. The lectures are a little boring - but you have to get through them. Tests are easy as long as you study!!!
What a great guy. He really knows what he's talking about and really wants students to understand the subject matter. There's quite a bit of work with weekly Tweets off of chapter readings, Access database assignments, two exams and a hefty technology group project. Really learned a lot in this class. Take him.
Great professor. He really cares about his students and is willing to help out when you need it. Class requires a bit of work with assignments, readings and the project. You will easily get an A if you give effort.
He is one of the greatest professor I've had in UWO. A respectful, friendly, professional and passionate teacher who is really willing to help you achieve success even if you have trouble. The class isn't easy, but as long as you follow him, you can make it!
Awesome professor. Clear explanations and always willing to be involved and helpful
Very effective professor! I highly recommend taking him for IS. Muraski has clear lectures, useful course assignments, and reasonable exams. You will learn much about the various technologies being used to help businesses succeed!
Professor Muraski was great in class. He showed a genuine interest in his students and was always there to help. Highly recommended.
Prof Muraski was awesome! Very helpful, made class interesting! Definitely take him if you get the chance!
I enjoy John as a professor - he has a great sense of humor and really enjoys interacting with his students and seeing students succeed. I say attendance is mandatory because he gives SO. MUCH. work time - you will need it (the class is very assignment-based) and will benefit from taking advantage of it.
Very smart professor with a sarcastic sense of humor. Assignments are clear cut and easy.
John was good teacher however the tests were a bit difficult because the material wasn't very clear. SAP is such a hard system to learn and most of students I feel have no interest in knowing how it is set up--like John wants you to learn. Good overall experience in the class though.
Bus 311 has become quite a beast with all the added assignments. Just keep up with classwork and assignments, do not skip class. Youll be fine.
Heavy workload compared to all other 3 credit essential courses. Thank goodness there was an assistant teacher. Two tests and that is a little over a third of your grade, a big group project and presentation is another third, then your own personal work and participation makes up the rest.
He is a great professor, very knowledgable, He is always enforcing new technology. Hard class but it was definitely the material, not him. Group project sucks but it would be way too much work of it wasn't a group project. Dont wair till the end of class to finish group work. Show up, pay attention, take notes and be a good student and you're fine.
Directions can be a bit vague. Tons of writing, but an easy grader. Stuck in 1985 asking us to write memos. Responds faster to email than on the course site. Overall, decent.
John is an awesome professor. Extremely helpful and very knowledgable what he is talking about. The tests and group project weren't the easiest, but you learn a lot in his course. I would highly recommend him to anyone!
Great class to take. As for the homework, if you use your class time wisely there is minimal take home work. There is two exams that you will need to study for to get a good grade. If you are going to take business 311 I recommend taking this teacher!
Great professor who's passion for the material made class much more interesting. You can earn a good grade by paying attention and working hard on projects
lot of classwork
Great Professor, very knowledgeable and passionate!
Muraski was super helpful and wants you to do well. If you need anything he's willing to help as long as you don't wait until last minute. It's obvious he loves what he does and wants you to enjoy it as well. I really enjoyed being in his class this semester, but I don't really enjoy group projects.
Great professor, great subject. Just do your work and study for exams. If you listen to the lectures you should be good for the exams.
The class was actually fun to be at, but there were a lot of assignments and expectations for the class. The exams were the toughest. If you showed up to class, there was usually enough time in class to finish all the assignments and John was there to answer any questions that you had. I got an A on all the homework mostly because I showed up.
Funny, fun, entertaining. Would take again. Had little interest in IS before but was a very doable class. Pay attention, do your work, TAKE THE INTERIM, and you'll have a great time.
John was a great guy, truly cares about his students and always will go out of his way to help. The tests are brutal, but if you work hard on the technology assignments you should be able to get a B. Also, make sure you pick a good team, as a group project is almost 30% of your grade. Would for sure take him again though.
John Muraski was fun, straightforward, and he had decent lectures. The ONLY thing that I did not like was that teachers always expect good grammar and spelling, professional documents, etc but a lot of what he presented seemed like he had rushed to prepare it because there were misspelled words. I loved the class and what I learned!
I took the class as an interim and found it super interesting. It is better than a simple 3 hour boring lecture. There is interaction and group work to split up the 3 hours. It is alot of work at times, but i feel that it was all necessary and Muraski will give you as much help as you need. He is an enthusiastic professor and knows the subject well
He is a great professor.
Muraski is a great professor who desires to keep students engaged in group work. Make sure you read the book or your multiple choice section of the exam will reflect it. Mistakes can be made sometimes when grading, but in my experience John recognized this in a timely manner & sent my a very professional apology email. Definitely would recommend!
Class was fun and enjoyable, read text book!
There are two exams that are optional and are very difficult to study for/receive a good grade. Other homework makes up for the hard exams.
John genuinely cares about education outside of the common "lecture and notes" model that most students are used to. You must read the book and have an interest in learning. You won't get by in the class if you simply show up and listen to "class discussions." Read the book and be ready to discuss. Your grade will reflect based on your effort.
Hes a pretty chill dude, but his tests are super are to study for because there are only two tests the whole semester. He gives you a study guide to fill out and but its too much broad and doesn't help when it comes to studying for the exams. Other than that, he's an easy graders, as long as you keep up with the homework you will be fine.
Good professor for BUS311. Group Project throughout the semester takes time, but is do-able if you don't wait till the end.
Great professor for BUS311. His tests are harder to study for due to all the content that is covered. He does give a study guide, but it is too broad compared to the exams he gives. He is an easy grader. Just try to keep up with the homework and projects and you will be fine.
Definitely take the interim. Get in, get out. Muraski does a good job making three hours a day, five times a week for three weeks in the middle of May not so terrible. Lectures were interesting and if you manage your time you can get all of the homework done the second half of class. Only negative thing is study guides were a bit extensive.
Great teacher with extensive knowledge in the business arena.
Professor who is interested in teaching and his subject area of expertise.
His classes are based on group projects, Web Technology, and Microsoft Access. You'll need to buy two expensive books and I heard other classes are not using them. Also, the tests are difficult because you do not know what to study for. I would not recommend this professor for IS 311.
Expensive for the two textbooks, but an easy class and a great guy. highly recommend taking him before others
The tests are hard but he gives a curve so they don't hurt your grade. Assignments count for most of your grade and he is a pretty easy grader. He makes the class enjoyable and you can tell he cares about his students being successful. I'm not an IS major but he made me enjoy and understand the material and I really enjoyed him as a professor.
Great professor. I would definitely recommend taking any of his classes.
Muraski really wants his students to succeed and learn something from his class. The assignments helped me understand the material better, and hes a really easy grader. Make sure to come to class and participate in lecture throughout the semester because you are given a grade at the end. Take this professor for IS311 if you can!
John really cares about his students. Although class was online this semester, we collaborated heavily. Ive learned more in this class than any other IS class. Great professor who wants his students to succeed.
Amazing supporting professor and willing to help students. Recommend student to take this class.
