A weird guy for sure, but if you haven't had Chem in high school and you want to get into General Chem with a good background, I highly recommend this professor. And don't spell his name wrong like site did!

I also took his CHM 010 course, which is moslty taken by indifferent students who don't want to be there. Mr. Murray is one of the old school teachers who demands quality from his students, which, in turn makes the student demand quality from themselves.

Dr. Murray is insane, but I like him. He knows his stuff, he's crazy about chem, and he explains things well. He does have a habit of roaming off topic, but his stories are funny and he says "just a little humor there, heh, heh, heh" when he tells jokes that no on laughs at. Priceless! I recommend him for chem, there will be no dull moments.

Doc. Murray is from the old school baby and he'll shape your ass up. He knows everything in the world about chemistry and pretty much any other topic you can think of. He's got a great teaching style and he always mixes things up with humor and completely unrelated stories. John J. Murray is the man.

Murray can be somewhat cocky.considering he has been studying chem all his life. he can be funny he makes to many accusations.4 instances he stated I wouldn't beable to pass his class if I worked over 40 hours and I did. when I missed school for a week b/c of my vaca I took he said I wouldn't be able to pass either.all & all he is a good teacher

Prof Murray is awesome. If you goto class, are on time, and do the work you should be fine. He likes when students bring him their work and ask for help. He is not there to fail you, he is there to teach you. All around great guy. I liked his stories, some things you can't get in a book.

Mr Murray is such a sweet guy. He really wants u to learn + is always there after class to help u -No matter how cocky he seems, he is the best Chem professor. Come on, if you had his background wouldn't you let everyone know how smart you are? He is a down to earth guy.... My advice - dont miss class, write everything off the board and STUDY!

I absolutely love Dr. Murray. Time and again, he went the extra mile to explain something in more detail to me than the text required. He is a teacher in the truest sense of the word. He does bark a little, but it's harmless. He simply has high standards and expects every student to adhere to those standards. Work hard and you'll do well.

I LOVE DR. MURRAY HE IS THAT OLD MAN THAT IS SO CUTE. HE IS VERY SMART AND WILL HELP YOU UNDERSTAND SO MUCH. CHEMISTRY IS HIS PASSION AND GETS WAY INTO IT. YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH FROM HIM. HE IS GREAT!

I love this Professor! Yeah he is really really hard but as long as you do the work you will be fine! I would always go to him after class to go over things i didn't understand and he was always willing to help me. You need to do the work in this class and as long as you do you will be fine!

Took him for Basic Chem. a few years back, and yes, he does insult his students by saying they're not too bright. You need to study for his class. Period. I do rememeber that the students that really didn't want to be there were gone in a matter of weeks. He's very passionate about the material.

he's ok i think. he talks about himself alot and how much he loves chemistry. i sometimes think that he is self-centered and arrogant. but he does encourage you to work hard.

Prof. Murray was easy. His tests were straight from his notes. He puts it all out for you so there are no surprises on the tests. He does talk A WHOLE LOT but sometimes he was funny! Also a bit crazy! But he was very helpful, I went to him almost after every class and he helped me a ton. Not the greatest prof but I can say one of the best!

Dr. Murray was a very good professor, at least in my opinion. He was able to explain everything I learned well, and explain them several other ways if I still didn't understand. Sometimes he started talking about things that where toatally off the subject, but that helped to keep me interested through what would be a very boring class.

this professor is AWESOME!...yes hes very hard but hes such a nice person and if you need help hes there. He does bragg to much about his money..but hey if you got it why not...but overall hes very good if you study and put the time in youll be fine.

I had him in labs and I think he was awesome! He's very helpful if you ask him questions and he will make sure you understand everything before letting you move on. He answered any questions about lecture even though he didnt teach it. just study what he gives you and youll be fine. I also LOVED his stories!

Dr. Murray was incredibly helpful and knows what he's talking about when it comes to Chemistry (as he's an organic chemist). He's hilarious and will work with you if you need to make up work or aren't understanding. I often stayed after labs and asked Dr. Murray several questions (once for 90 mins) and he was happy to help.

He's very helpful; all you have to do is ask. He enjoys telling jokes which helps the hours go by. In class: Read, pay attention, take half decent notes. At home: Read, take more notes/alter in-class notes, & do practice problems. Try and you will do fine.

I always have fun in his class, I love it when he is loud and tells stories, he always makes me laugh. I would go back to his class but sadly can't. His classes are really easy, and short. The exams are easy except naming compounds if you do the homework, only few people in my class did their homework. I like talking to him because he's interesting

I cant believe the other ratings! I really enoyed the class. I'll tell you what the problem is...they only have him teaching nursing students that dont care about Chem. I am not a nursing student or a chem major and I did very well in his class. Maybe if he had smarter people in his class, problem solved! Minimal work, just follow lesson. Good Job!

I had to rate again just because I'm so mad at the othere responses. Let me explain better...there were students who dropped the class only days before the last drop period. They are mad and maybe not that bright. Its your fault not his..get a life. Good luck in the future. I liked Dr. Murray, I would take him again if given the chance.

This professor is excellent. Do not listen to the other comments they come from students who are themselves to blame. Through out the semester I failed one test and I still got a B+. If he sees you are trying he will help you TRUST ME. he jokes a lot an in order to understand his jokes u need to spend some time in the class. Regardless of your major he expects his students to be the best they can be and he know when people are trying. Be very organized and attend class.

Kind of funny in an insulting way. He said that if we weren't "stupid" we wouldn't be in his class. Now that hurt. Accuses students of being on drugs, and loves to draw the chemical compound for crack cocaine. Exams were tough, but cheating in the class was out of control.

Dr. Murray was the Dean of Chemistry years ago and I had the honor of taking one of his classes. He is the reason I have a degree in Chem today. Absolutely love him!

I never really studied the book, I paid attention and I got an A, He is such a good teacher(I AM SERIOUS)HE IS REALLY GOOD PROFESSOR,he makes everything so easy to understand. stupid people only makes stupid comments about good professors. I wish he teaches other chem classes, no science prof was ever clear.

Old school teacher! Knows his stuff. Helpful but you have to ask! Tests are a bit tough but try and he will pass you with a good grade. The final is a breeze compared to the rest of his tests.

Dr Murray is a fantastic professor. If you put in the effort, attend class and still aren't passing, he will meet with you and help you. His labs are interesting, his tests are hard, but if you try he will notice and he will help you pass!!! The man is brilliant and makes chemistry interesting!

He is such an inspirational person. I didn't even get that great of a grade and have no regrets being in the class. Yeah, it's a tough course and he's quite a rough grader. I really enjoyed his class but I only wish I studied harder.

I have never enjoyed chemistry but he made it enjoyable. Old-fashioned teaching. Good pace, but if you fell behind he would make sure to help you after class. Shared many personal stories and corny jokes but that made me enjoy the class even more. Be sure to study hard and make it to every class. A great teacher that I highly recommend.

Dr. Murray was a great Professor. He is hard as most professors that care about what they do. But if you show up take notes and read, you will be all right. He jokes a lot don't take personally. He is what I liked to call Seasoned Teacher. He knows it all and he is very smart. I enjoyed learning from him you just need to apply yourself.

Dr. Murray is a wonderful professor. His tests are tough & he wants you to really understand the material. He is extremely passionate about chemistry and takes pride in his former students acceptance letters to various schools/programs. He explains the material clearly, but you certainly have to pay attention and do the work to understand.

Great professor. Although I only had him for LAB, he made sure that what we were learning was broken down into something useful and made sure to help us and allow us to really understand the material. He def knows his stuff and takes pride in his work. He is a bit of a harsh grader but if he sees you trying, he helps a lot. Ask a lot of questions!

He is an old man but he is good. He spends most of class laughing and speaks about his chemist friend. If you wrote everything he says in the lecture and study it from the book you will get a good grade.

I would give him 4.5, he is a great teacher, he will help you if you don't understand. he is very funny even though I don't fully understand his jokes. but he doesn't like students late in his class. if I have a chance to take his class again, I will

Murray is an awesome teacher! Though the material may sometimes be a a bit challening, he will go over the material until you understand it. Get ready to study since Murray does pushes you to get it your all in this class. Also its important to read and do the homework (its super helpful) and come to class every time!

Hes an amazing professor. Basically if you took chemistry in high school you dont have anything to worry about but if you didnt you just have to study much more because you might struggle a little.

Dr. Murray is one of the best professors I have ever had! He's very good at his job, his lectures are informative and funny. He reviews everything with the class and makes sure that he's accessible for any questions you have. I'm not a huge science person, but he makes it very understandable and I am understanding everything he says.

Dr. Murray is a caring professor who is respected & loves what he does. He is an older professor so he's no super accessible outside of the classroom but he answers any question you have. He truly cares about his students but it has to be both ways. We were online, if you didn't turn your camera or interact during class he doesn't get to know you.

Now, I can see why Prof Murray has about average reviews. Personally, I am really enjoying his class so far. He's a very straight to the point man. But, I can tell why his style isnt for everyone. I really enjoy the way he's been teaching my chemistry class this semester (Fall 2021) Asks questions & he has all grading/schedule info on the syllabus!

He is nice but he talks a lot about random stuff, also no HW so you have to do good on all of your tests. I think he tries his best to help students do good though.

If I could I would take his class again in a heartbeat. I loved this Professor, he's very straightforward and blunt and I noticed that A lot of students can't handle that. He's funny and a great teacher solid 10/10. Like he isn't hard people just don't A) pay attention or B) Do the work. This is a class, not a free show. :/
