Fun Teacher
He's goofy and he's easy to reach outside of class.
John is a cool teacher. You buy notes that the final and tests are based on. Fairly easy if you put the time in. He's goofy and a little eccentric. Cool teacher though.
Really cool and like to joke a lot. Tests are open notes, so is final. Not that hard top fail his class.
Fun teacher. Very goofy. Knows how to explain the material very well. Love his jokes!
John, fun teacher, knows his material well. He makes his class easy to understand. He is faboulous take him... open notes for his quizes...:)
John knows his stuff. He tries to be strict, but remember, "When you get a job in the real world..." Listen to his wisdom. :)People say he is difficult, they are the ones that don't open their book or notes. Just be ready to do work if you take
John is a funny guy. He'll pick on certain students, but all in good fun. He gives really good notes, his tests are all multiple choice and they're easy. I have an A in the class.
fun teacher....tests r not difficult and reasonable...his lectures r not boring
His explanations need to be clearer, teaching lucidly each step.
He's confusing. He needs to stop telling jokes and actually teach. At times you can't even tell what he's talking about. This is only my opinion, try him for yourself.
John is the worst, unhearted human being ever. He is not willing to help out students at all even if u deserve it. He's just there to get the job done and get paid and nothing more. He doesnt care for the students al all. He's also rude and inconsiderate.
I don't like math, but I liked his class. If you have to take a math class and he offers it, take it with him. Great teacher!
Teaches in a way that makes it fun to learn. Class participates. You will learn, IF YOU WANT TO LEARN. If you there ONLY BECAUSE REQUIRED, you may have problems. I earned an "A". To me the subject is interesting and used in science.
John Nakahama is one weird mfckr. Don't get me wrong, he's nice and a great teacher, but he's just so dorky. Nonetheless, his class is really fun and he makes learning Stats bearable. The tests are straight forward, but he assigns a lot of homework, which is pretty easy and just helps your grade.
Nakahama is one of the coolest professors I have taken at Mission College. His class is straight forward. He is a nice guy to talk to as well. I give him 2 thumbs up.
I loved his class because you can get it all by John. He is very helpful, though he seems a bit shy and nerd. Look at his note! Stats is not very hard if instructed by him. I really recommend to take his if you need to get over BusMath, or try to get better grade even though you aren't smart at Math
He's such a cool teacher. His teaching methods are simple and easy to understand. However, his jokes often fall flat, but he's so cute for trying =) You'll have fun and actually learn math while you take his classes. He assigns alot of hw, which is very helpful for exams.
I took his class in the computer lab and I did not love his teaching. He is an excellent guy but i found it confusing the 2 days he tried to lecture. This could be because the class was taught by a computer too, though.
WARNING** DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! He is totally frustrating. Very unclear. Does not explain when students ask for explaination. Only talks with smart students who he relates to. Talks down to students in condescendingly. How did he ever become a teacher with that bad attitude towards students?
super easy teacher! He tried to scare people off at the first session but it turns out that he's the easiest and doesn't stick to his rules. He assigns a lot of take home quizzes but they will be done in 5 mins. His tests are easy like games. Yet, he likes to pick and make jokes on students!
John is a great teacher,I like his teaching style, so easy to understand. He's very helpful n if you ever need any help,he will be around after class to answer any questions.Be sure to take advantage of the Math Lab, it helps me alot. I like all his quizzes, it really prepare you for the tests. Just listen to the lectures and you will do just fine.
This is class is very easy. All you have to do is pay attention in class, take good notes,do your homework. It seems all you have to do in this class is try and you will get a decent grade.Take advantage of the Math Lab,I did and it helped me out.He is willing to make the students understand and then he moves on.Tests multiple choice.Great Teacher!!!!
He's funny!! I heard from other people that he's soooo hard but in actuality he really isn't if you just do your work you'll most likely get a C... the tests may be hard but you have your notes so look over them before the test and make sure to know where everything in your notes are it will help you. but he's really cool and not hard at all.

can't say anything good
he's the most horrible teacher on this planet. can this guy actually teach statistics? it took him 10 years to get his tenure. I THINK NOT!!!
I recommend this class. His teaching style beats any math teacher I've had and his tests are pretty easy if you do the hw, go to class, and review your notes prior to the exam. He can be unclear at times but he takes it slowly, one step at a time, and eventually you understand it. The only negative is you have to do 8 excel assignments - not fun!
He is not willing to review ANYTHING because he might get off schedule. This is very frustrating. I did well in his class only because I spent 2 hours before every class in the math lab having tutors help me. John would be there but would make you feel stupid if you asked him for help. Cruel Sence of humor. Lazy(always errors and sends notes at 2am
Great teacher easy A
I took awhile back and he's the best teacher for stats. His humor can be corny at times, but he explains the text very well. Just do the work.
USE NOTES YOU WRITE AND NOTES YOU BUY FROM STORE. USE GRAPHING CALCULATOR. YOU CAN EARN "A" IF YOU TRY.
This class is annoying!! He always makes mistakes on this notes, quizes, and exams!! He is really funny, which is good since the class is boring. This class isn't too hard. You can do it if you try. Not an esay A though.
what****thought he was hot? NOT. he makes a lot of mistakes and never explains anything. if you suck at math, go to the math lab for help because he won't help you. he is funny, but you'll find that you are laughing at his idiocy not his jokes.
He is not helpful.. Never response emails..His joke is so corny..
he is funny, and to some ppl, it annoys them, but im ok wit it. just make sure that u go to class and do your take home quizes, then u ll be fine. his tests are open note. i never tried to go to the lab, so i dunno how he is in the lab, but i asked him questions in class, and he did try to help me. hes cool.
Nakahama was a great teacher considering it is a statistics class. I got nothing lower than a B on his tests...his teaching style allowed me to easily follow along.
Awesome teacher, very understanding.
I took him online... Easy A! Do your homework, and do your lessons and you'll be fine. His test resemble his study guides, so do every study guide before his test. His emails did take awhile to get a response, and the only help you'll get is through tutors. Overall recommended.
kind of weird. his grading is strange. harder work worth less points. wouldn't recommend him.
Okay, so the professor hands out Outlines/packages that you will fill in as he lectures. Test are open notes and multiple choice. So you don't have to show work. Never goes over the homework or exam. Take this class with a friend, or you will fail from boredom.
Excellent teacher! Mr. Nakahama is a very likable and funny teacher who's really good at teaching! Easy to follow his lectures and get an A!
Good teacher. He tells kinda corny jokes at times. The most important thing is that he wants his students to succeed. That's the most important thing. Do all the homework and pay attention to the lectures. Took Statitics with him.
Nice guy and fairly easy. Not a lot of hw, gives easy computer assignments, exams are multiple choice. But, each problem on there is worth several points and there isnt a lot of problems, so getting one wrong could cost you. replaces your lowest midterm w/ half of your final exam score. getting an A is really possible with some effort in everything
No HW at all. Take-home quizzes. Completely open-note exams, all multiple choice which you don't need to show work for. You honestly have to be dumb not to pass this class. He makes it SO easy for you. Go to lecture to get his notes which are super clear. You don't even need the book to pass..
He reminds me of a high school teacher. Not very helpful, you rely on the students in the class to answer your questions. Even though his tests are open note/multiple choice there is no partial credit and you can really get lost. Showing up is crucial. Cummulative final. I heard good things about Denny Burzynski at West Valley, take him instead.
Uses notes and formulas on the exams. His demonstrations on Probability are cool and he uses actual playing cards for his lectures. We was okay, but I didn't pass.
All his tests are multiple choice and you can use the notes if they are in a binder. The homework isten questions and multiple choice. He's funny in the beginning but his jokes get really old fast. Im not a big fan of his teaching style..he's kind of unclear and just goes over the slides( which are notes that you have to print out).
Even though you don't need one, buy a graphing calculator and find someone or call the math tutor hotline and they'll teach you how to use it.
jesus christ, he is so annoying! as long as you kind of know what youre doing, you'll be fine. his tests are multiple choice. but after you take the tests, everything will just kind of make sense.
He is a good professor, but I gave him average marks because Stats is difficult for me. But he was cool because even though I flunked every test, he gave me a C because I had perfect attendance and I turned in all of my HW. That pretty sweet in my book!
His jokes are annoying and he and he REALLY thinks he's funny.... but he's not. Uses slides to teach the class, and you can use notes for all your test.
Great teacher! I used to hate math, but because of him, I actually enjoy it now. He has interesting lectures. He's very professional and organized. Tests are given back on time. Required homework and quizzes are done online through MyMathLab; I usually spend about 3 to 4 hours on homework. Allows 3 pages for cheat sheets. Get ready to work hard =)
If you can tune out the teacher and learn from my math lab during class, you'll probably pass. He's quite annoying, his lectures were confusing, and some tests are absurdly hard... If you like studying from the computer and can tune a teacher out, you'll do fine. Although, He kept me 5% away from transferring to SJSU.. just saying
Teacher is funny and I don't think he knows it. Confuses himself sometimes but its entertaining. Just let him be. Too bad his confusion carries on a little too long. I took the online class. It was okay since I had a little background with it. If you don't have prior knowledge, its better to take the lecture.
Took the class online line its was an easy A.If your good a teaching your self this is the perfect class for you.
HW/quizes were done using MYMATHLAB. His lectures were kind of boring but they are really useful when it comes to hw and the test. 3 exams and 1 final. We were allowed 3 pages of notes for tests. He is not a bad teacher at all and come to class and take notes and you will pass. Oh and he says "Don't just sit there like a bump on a log" A LOT hahaha
He teaches with lots of examples which was ideal for my learning style. I returned to math after 20 years break and had never done most of the material. He always responds to e-mails, and returns tests fast. Homework & quizzes are on my math-lab which worked great."If you do your homework & quizzes there's no reason not to pass his class!"
Professor Nakahama is probably the best math instructor I have ever had. He comes to class fully prepared to teach with many examples. Sometimes he'll crack a bad joke here or there, but it's because he's trying to keep the class fresh. There's a lot of homework, but he gives you enough time to complete it. You can also use notes for tests! :)
This class was alot of work.. but Nakahama was a cool cat. He lets you you notes for the test but the notes dont mean nothing if you dont know your stuff. If your taking him be ready to work hard.
Took the online course. All HW and quizzes are done online using mymathlab and the book is online so save yourself some $$ and don't buy the actual text book. Exams are on Saturdays and you are not allowed any notes.
This class is easy if you're good with Algebra and can self-teach using MyMathLab. I got B's on my tests and either missed classes, or didn't pay attention. Although, I did spend about 7 hours teaching myself everything the night before. He's hard to understand so listen carefully, do the work, and study for an A.
Teacher made mistakes and was often challenged about them b another student. teacher made jokes that were not really funny and at times made us wish the class was over.
He was very insulting on the first day, asking "Do you understand" and not continuing until everyone said out loud "YES!" Not involved, basically through email and SOME office time. There is a ridiculous amount of hw for the class and spent most of my time on that even though the class grade was majorly weighted in the exams. Worst i've ever had!
He is by far one of the most annoying and irritating instructors I have ever had. He spends majority of the class trying to be funny and going on tangents that have nothing to do with class. he gives a lot of homework and quizzes all online and he does really stupid and difficult computer assignments that are irrelevant and weighted heavily.
This class really isn't hard, you can pass it if you do the homework and quizzes. The only reason I'm giving him a bad rating is because he is seriously one of the most annoying teachers I've ever had. He makes jokes that aren't funny at all and he was a jerk sometimes. His attitude made me never want to ask him questions.
One of the most ANNOYING teachers! Jokes are not funny, and he is not helpful. He'll expect you to understand his lectures. Mystatlab taught me better. I didn't even want to listen to his chatter. He expects answers to his questions and if no one responds, "Hello? HELLO?!" Doesn't give make ups, and doesn't care about your reason.
I took Johns class in 2013, and i DON'T recommend him. He's pretty rude to students, his jokes are not funny, and sometimes inappropriate, no makeups and simply does not care about you. I tried going to his office hours and he was not helpful at all and was uninterested in helping me. I learned more from mymathlab thats how i passed. go to EVC
If you fall behind and decide to study from book or site don't, he loves to change the formula and expects you to show him on the test and if you don't there is no partial credit. Everything else is done online so hw and quizzes are pain but are almost always a 100%. This teacher is kinda weird and nerdy and some times came off as insulting.
like most people who are good at math, he is not very nice to people who aren't. He is very snide. There was a definite feeling that it was not okay to ask him for help. The textbook for this course sucked. it looks like it will be helpful, but they skip a lot of "steps" in the demos, and a lot of the "examples" are linked wrong.
He was the rudest teacher I've ever had. He would get easily distracted and often times would confuse the class when he went off on tangents. I passed because I basically taught myself. I do not recommend taking his class unless you have no other option.
Ok. TESTS MATTER! He lets you use 1 page of notes front and back along with a scientific calculator. Make sure you listen to his lectures and DO THE COMPUTER ASSIGNMENTS. On the tests, they are all multiple choice, but he puts down the option, "None of the above". THAT IS NEVER THE ANSWER!!! He always gives you the answer.
Nakahama is HILARIUS. Yes, at times it could be a little rude, but honestly makes class worth coming to. This class was super easy to pass. If you want to pass, have a graphing calc, DO PRACTICE TESTS the night before, and copy how you solved it on your cheat sheet. All the Q's are from the prac. test so you should pass easily. Test are must choice
Avoid if possible, you're better off not listening to his rants, complaints, and random stories. He goes off topic a lot and he super rude when you ask him a question thats not about his stories.
Interesting professor--he has an interesting style for notes--print out his PDFs, and then follow along in class as he goes over them. Computer assignments don't take much time but can get annoying. He allows one double-sided page for notes and provides the formulas on his exams.
Nakahama seems like a cool guy, but his teaching is not very understandable. Attendance is mandatory and he says he will drop anyone if they don't show up for class for three days. I don't know why attendance is mandatory, I had to teach myself through Mystatlab which is where all the homework and quizzes are.
Really easy course to pass if you pay attention and take notes during the lecture. You're allowed notes and calculator during test. No partial credit is given on test so make sure you know your stuff.
Teacher has his own sense of humor. Lectures are straight from the provided notes, which are very clear and understandable. He tests what he teaches. Which is hard to come by because many teachers will throw in questions that they did not go over. Do the homework and excel assignments that he gives. 1 page cheat sheet for tests.
Mr. Nakahama is a cool guy. If you study his lecture notes, do the homework and exam reviews, it is an easy class to get A.
He doesn't care about his students, sometimes gets impatient. He doesn't really help students. His class is not hard and he goes off the topic a lot. You don't really learn a lot in his class.
For this class I did not pay attention to his class at all since the way that he explained things was really confusing. I learned to do the hw and tests from looking up youtube videos. the tests will be really easy if you go by the test review online, they are identical. Hes a funny guy. He takes off 1 percent off grade each time you are absent
Lectures are interactive, he writes on his tablet and you see it clearly in real time. All his lectures are available online ahead of time.
It's an okay class if you have test taking skills and don't rely on your homework for your grade. He heavily relies on tests. A cheat sheet is allowed as well as a graphing calculator the computer assignments are not hard. attendance is a must, he has a no exceptions rule.
Pros: What he teaches is exactly what you'll be tested on. He puts all of his lecture notes up online, as well as practice tests. He allows cheat sheets for tests. Cons: Every time you're late or absent, he takes off a chunk of your grade. He only knows how to give his lectures how they are, so you need to go elsewhere for in-depth explanation.
This instructor goes very fast. Don't bother asking for clarification, you most likely won't get it. Instructor is not very approachable. If you don't understand, just go straight to a tutor. Instructor gets off subject a lot.
He's hard but the exams are very similar to the practice exam. A lot of HW for online but deal with it and Group study in class. Attendance is very important, he will take a chunk of your grade. The math book is very expensive. (FALL 2016)
It's pretty clear what you need to do. I'd recommend him to anyone.
I genuinely like taking Nakaham, this now my third class Ive taken with him in the past 2 years. Although, he requires a lot of work in his classes, he gives his students many options to pass the class. He does an exam review before the midterm and offers practice exams on mymathlab. I would definitely recommend him to other students.
The only reason I took him for math 10 was because he allows 1 full page of notes and posts a mock exam online. If you make notes based on that mock exam, it's an easy pass. He checks for attendance and there is a bunch of hw which is the main drawbacks.
Nakahama has his own sense of humor, which made the class very entertaining. The homework was easy. You're allowed one page (front and back) of notes for every test. He gives a practice exam that is identical to the actual test, so if you copy that you'll easily get an A. You won't learn much from his class, but it's an easy A.
Online, more or less mandatory zoom attendance twice a week. Not good with tech. Makes "errors" in lectures. Theory driven, can't tell you where you might apply the math he's teaching you. Exams 90% of your grade, you get 1-2 pages front and back for notes on the exams (2 on final). Flexible with hw and quiz due dates as long as classmates agree.
Professor Nakahama is a good teacher with a haphazard sense of humour, which is the best way I can describe it! Knows his Statistics, but definitely do the hmk/ quiz to improve. Don't buy the book, bc it is included in the MyMathLab courses. You are allowed 1-page "cheat sheet" on exams. The mock exams are the best way to study for the exams.
enjoys telling stupid and if you get an answer wrong he will say u are dumb bc it was common sense. even if you get 100% on all hw and quizzes u still wont get a good grade if you then do poorly on exam. no chances to make up points and wont allow u to see what u got wrong. rude i will kms b4 semester is over and blame it on him
Worst math teacher ever. He doesn't know what he's teaching. Asked students if they did the hw so they can add comments in the lessons. He doesn't write down the process of how to get from point A to point B. He literally reads you what's on his printout notes, expecting u to get it. He teaches as he goes. Kinda bs it. I had to reteach myself.
His classes are so boring, his sense of humor is also boring. Makes errors during lectures. Defined need to go to class to understand more, but they are so jarring. HW and quizzes do pretty much nothing to your grade because 90 percent of the grade are exams so make sure you dont fail those. But honestly not that bad, just really really boring!
Non-negotiable professor regarding bumping up from a one-percent tile. Lots of homework, but exams are what weigh your grade the most. Allowed cheat sheet notes; copying notes from mock exams are the best way to study for them. Attendance is mandatory. Don't take him if you want to genuinely learn math from a professor over self-teaching yourself.
I personally struggle with math but Statistics was not as difficult as I thought it would be. BUT I did mostly teach myself which was very time consuming. I would prefer not to have to rely on myself entirely to teach myself a new subject, especially since the zoom is mandatory. I tried to ask for help but I preferred a tutor, which helped so much.
He is honestly okay. Test are 90% of your grade. He drops your lowest score so if you do well on the final since its worth more than the other tests it will bump your grade up. Homework and quizzes are on Pearson which you need to buy. He gives practice test and YOU SHOULD DO THEM. It's basically all the test question but with different numbers.
This is the third time I have taken this professor. Each time has been excruciating and exhausting. If you take this professor (I really hope you don't), expect busy homework weeks with very little reward. Grading criteria are: 10% HW/Quizzes 90% Exams His lecture notes are very hard to read which makes you have to teach yourself the entire course.
This guy absolutely sucks. I hated his class. He knows his stuff well, but it's his only atribute. He's very lecture heavy, gives a ton of homework, and is overall a terrible person. Avoid him at all costs
He has a strange sense of humor that you'll need to get used to. Exams are 90% of your grade, but his practice tests are exactly like the exams and he allows one page of notes front and back, so just learn how to do the problems from those practice exams using lecture notes and hws and you will pass easily.
Best of best
He makes the weirdest jokes. He doesn't really care about his student's and takes forever to respond back to emails. He's not the worst but he's not the best either.
He was alright 10% grades hw/quizzes in Pearson and the other 90% are from your Exams. He drop your lowest score if you do good in your final exam. He handed out papers for you to fill in the blank during lecture so do those. Do the pratice test early and see how you do it's the same as taking the real test but with differents numberes.
Do not take his class
