Course is very structured - he has notes and uses them to the letter. But, very well organized and precise. The every-day classes make going over homework difficult, but he sticks to his office hours and works with you until you understand it.
I agree, he is very precise. However, I find that he teaches to the white board and not to the student.

He is very organized and he understands what he is doing but doesn't care to teach the class. If you ask him questions he is very condecending. He acts as if we're in grade school, not college.
he is a very picky grader
take his anger on students
very dry style of teaching. His famous words after someone asked for a reveiw for an exam was that we all had to be weaned sometime and that he couldnt spoon feed us forever.
He is horrible at teaching math, and is the worse grader.
Explaines the material well. Has office hours if needed. Always answers questions.
I'd rather flunk out of college then take a class with John as the professor
At one point he threw a piece of chalk at the board and it shattered. He did this because he thought the class was laughing at him. Though very possible, this was not the case. Hes a very angry man who needs yoga, or pot or something.
Very poor teacher. The worst instructor I have ever had my entire life. Difficult, petty, man. Uses the hardest problems he can find for the quizzes and exams. If you can transfer to a different teacher, run, don't walk to another instructor for Math.
i feel bad for wrting this but he's just not the best teacher and not a good grader!!this class is very confusing too
Very boring class, he does a lot of work, but makes the exams extremely hard. His final is impossible to finish since it is over 20 pages long. However ready to help at any time.
Despite what others have posted, I believe John is a good instructor. Clearly presents the material, and the tests are no harder than any other math class. He is willing to meet outside class for extra help when needed.
He drives me crazy. He just copies the information right out of our book. So we read the chapter for homework and then he rereads it for class, let me tell you how boring that it. Plus he says ok after EVERY sentence. We counted in one class and he said it 237 times in one class. Just so you all know!
Although his material is difficult, he knows what he is talking about. True, testing is extremely challenging, I mangaged to pass it anyway! I say, keep teaching!
didnt think he was too bad but, he did go fast. the class didnt seem to have a problem with him, and nobody has really dropped out. one thing he did not do for our class is give us some sort hands on review for quizes and tests, he just told us if we knew the homework we would do good on the exams which in my oponion was not always the case
His lectures are very good. His grades are based on tests only, and his tests are hard. I study for many hours and i may get a B depending on my final grade. I would suggest his class, but only because i dont think any are better.
I have already reviewed this proffessor but after taking him twice I decided that i was a little wrong. This is calculus people, if you cant teach it yourself, then your gunna have a hard time. His tests and quizes can sometimes be hard, but i have noticed that he is very generous when it comes to partial credit, Not many teachers are.
he is nice as a person tries to help but can't teach really good.
Nedel's lectures are thorough and fast paced. He does tend to say "okay" a lot. Nedel can be a bit condescending and tries to portray that you are wrong and not him. He likes things neat and organized, very precise grading. His exams and quizzes are difficult, but as long as you do the homework and ask questions, you should be fine.
Maybe the problem is the interest the student has in the class. I say this because everyone in my class really liked Nedel. His lectures are very clear, and he writes the best notes. He was very helpful in answering questions and reviewing for quizzes+tests. Personally, I would recommend him.
he's not helpful at all. doesnt go over a review from 130 or 131 and jumps right in. Really hard to understand because he speeds through the lesson. hard tests and quizzes. no extra credit and well he just super sucks. seriously never again, try and get someone less cause its a hard course and there are no peer tutors :(
He is a good teacher even though his test is not easy. His lecture is veryclear. Test will be all of your notes. Write down care fully, you will be good on your test.
He's an ok teacher, but he has a tendency to over enunciate his words and use random words that you'd expect from an English teacher. He's very precise in his work. He's not the greatest professor I've ever had, but he's not the worst either.
Ok, so he is not the most personable fellow. He really irritated me for the first few weeks. He has a tendency to talk down to students. However, his lecture is clear. He gives many examples, and if you can do the homework you can get a B or better. I would take him again for higher math if he taught the classes I needed.
Really disrespected his students and didn't seem to care if anyone got it or not - he was going to give the same rehearsed lecture whether the room was packed or nearly empty. He disliked going over old material and told his students many times that "this is college," meaning if there's something you didn't understand yesterday, tough.
Horrible teacher no help what so ever when asked, the class was just him talking to himself unaware that the whole class was lost. When questions were asked he did not answer clearly. I think if half your class has to drop out by the 5th week you need a new job!!! aviod this teacher at all cost.
this guy was just awful!he teaches roboticly, you can tell hes one of those teachers that has everything saved to his desk top.his exams were hard, it differ from the examples practiced in class, his study guides consisted of hand typed instructions on what to study.thats not a study guide!and his handwriting was awful!
Too fast and hard to keep up with. Not helpful.
I would not recommend this professor. He goes through things extremely fast, tests are hard, grading is extremely strict, minimal time in class for questions or help, and he is also condescending. He knows his stuff, but does not teach in an easily learnable fashion.
this guy is just awful, i would not recommend takeing him...it will be a waste of money..he missed alot of days in class, and scheduled a midterm the first day after break..his exams are hard and he is very short with you.
If you are prepared to go to class daily, keep up on the assignments and take detailed notes... then this class will be challenging, but rewarding. I've had Mr. Nedel four times during my career at CSCC, he's fair and expects you to do your fair share of work in order to succeed in his class.
I really like this professor, he's straight forward and a great teacher. He is not awful by any means... lori borchort is however (econ, ugh)
Halfway point and this guy is annoying, and hard grading. He changes decibals mid sentence, makes you take quizzes at the end of class after doing something that isnt seen in a 148 class just to confuse you. He writes down notes and examples on the board, but his wide butt blocks the whole thing so you cant keep up. Good Luck
I have not taken a math class in years. So I was rusty. This class is vey fast pace. If you take good notes and do the homework you should pass. He does put the hard problems on the quiz and test. He changes/or adds little things to the problems that you may overlook. I have had better teachers, but he is a pretty good teacher also.
This teacher is the best teacher ever.He explains math really well.I actually got an A+ in his college algebra. If one comes to every class, take notes and do homework you will excel in his class just like I did.GREAT TEACHER!!!
Prof. Nedel is a good math teacher he explaines things very well and as long as you attend class and DO YOUR H/W!!! you should do just fine i made the mistake of not doing all of my h/w but if i did i guarentee i would have gotten a better grade. And yes he is a hard grader but if you payattension you don't have to worry about that.
I had a very hard time with professor Nedel's teaching style, and dropped the class when I was failing it. I did attend every class, took notes, and did homework, but still didn't understand. I need things explained very concretely-just reading a theorem makes no sense to me at all. I also didn't find his notes or study guides helpful.
Professor Nedel was somewhat easy in the beginning of the quarter, but my only complaint is that he barely gave his students enough time to finish their final exam. I didn't think it was fair to the students who worked hard to succeed in his class and ended up failing the final and receiving a lower grade than they had expected.
really awkward person
awkward, hard to learn from, very short test times and writes way to fast.
I passed his class with a 90%. he is a great teacher whose teaching methods stick in your head. Do all your homework and study all quizzes and tests and the final will be ok. He asnwers all questions and speaks to you with respect. I highly recommend his class for all higher math courses. A+++ Prof Nedel- Well done.
great detail in explainations
i did well in this class but with no help from mr. nedel. he was an absolutely awful instructor. he seemed to be annoyed when students asked questions and would just lecture straight from the book like he was a machine. he is just an extremely awkward person to talk to in general.
I would not recommend this class to anyone! His grading makes it next to impossible to get a good grade. If taking his class buy the textbook answer book and your bound to at least get a good grade on homework (homeworks are counted as percentages not points!)
One of the best Math teachers. Teaches in details. He is a bit fast. If you love Math I recommend his class, because he is a true Math Teacher Prof.
Probably a smart guy but he's an awful teacher. Doesn't give enough time for tests (he always puts difficult problems on them and complains when we don't finish in 15 minutes). He acts annoyed when we ask questions. Just an awkward man.
Beyond any shred of a doubt the worst teacher I've ever had. His quiz review guides are like a cable guy who says he'll be there between 10am and 6pm. He has a ton of material to choose from and he doesn't give you any idea of what to expect. Doing homework won't help because the problems on the tests are the mutant offspring of the book. Bad Prof!
he sucks at teaching, goes his own way, rude, notes all the time and examples are all from the book, you might as well just stay home and read the book! you'd be better off that way.
He's an a**! Durring Fall Quarter, someone in his class stated that the material was hard(difficult) not disrepecfully just matter of fact. he proceeded to slam his book down on the desk and state that "This isn't hard! This is Mickey Mouse stuff! If you think this is hard then you need to go back to elementary school!"
I took this class at CSCC because I thought it would be better quality than at Ohio State because theres not 300 students in a class lecture.. Boy was I wrong. you might as well read the book.. and then hope something you read translates to what he decides to put on the test.. Cant take notes cause he covers the chalkboard, gets excited at times
He is a great teacher. He goes over the problem step by step and it's very easy to understand.
He has got to be the worst teacher I have ever come accross. we take the class at 8 at night and then he proceeds to not let us take the quiz or test at the begining of class but at the end of class at ten oclock. You can't even see the board because he stands in front of it and my friend he is no window. the worst just the worst ever!!!
All I have to say is avoid this guy like H1N1. This teacher is very rude. and He writes real fast on the chalkboard and wont slowdown. Then he can't talk write. Finally He Marked a write answer wrong on a test and never corrected the answer. I ready to go to the dean over this guy.
Do not take his class!! You will work very hard for a good grade in this class. His tests are difficult. Weekly quizzes and homework is due on day of quiz. Also quiz is at the END of class. Makes it hard to remember last weeks material when you just learned this weeks.
easy class to get good grade...although im still pissed off..cos i couldve gotten an A if only i was not 1 hr late fr the bloody final exam..i was annoyed he didnt encourage me to take a mock up like other instructor would.
Inconsiderate teachers like him is why most kids drop out of school after the first year of college. First he talks above you like you are garbage. He writes too fast on the chalk board(and wont slow down). Finally he give the toughest exams I ever had. Taking his Class is collage suicide. I you want survive college avoid This Man.
Would not recommend Mr. Nedel. He seemed annoyed by questions asked, his notes followed the book exactly and he rarely expanded. One day he got upset at a student and threw chalk across the room and then walked out of the class after letting us know that the last day to drop was soon and we might as well as we're lazy and all going to fair anyway.
He took attendance and there were "journals" that were due each week but that was basically it. Super easy class, just sit down shut up and appear to be listening. He even allowed everything to be turned in a week late.
I did not learn from this class.
If you want to an A, I recomment this teacher.
He's a math guy and he'll make you work hard. If you do, you will do well. He will challenge you on his tests. Be ready to practice the homework and prepare for quizes/tests properly. I can integrate and analyze geometry like a champ now!
hard grader, if the answer is wrong, then all the points taken away, no half marks. very fast paced lectures, hard to keep up. out of order, gives quizes to something we learned a week ago. never reviews. study guides are very vague. makes u feel dumb for asking questions, no one really raised their hand. if you want a good grade, dont take him.
Easy to understand, helps with tutoring.
His calculus class is fast paced and difficult so you have to pay attention and ask questions if you don't understand. Never had any problems outside of the course work. Needs to work on not standing in front of the things he writes on the board since they are the notes we need.
Good, fair teacher.
HORRIBLE! Lectures are recited verbatim from the text, homework is all even # problems, quizzes and exams are rough, very hard grader! He spends so much time reciting the theorems verbatim that there is little time for questions or explanation. more worried about you using the proper stanix than teaching the material!
Lectures are packed with material which is good in a way but it's usually a challenge to follow the whole 2 hours.
He is the worst of the worst instructor. Please i beg you to take other instructors. He likes you to fail the class and also the way he grades is hard. (5,7) and he marked wrong he said i should put x is 5. My advice is you to take other instructors.
If you want take math 1148, please take other instructors. He is not helpful at all. second he grades hard maybe you have the write answer and he marks wrong because you have to do the way he does. He is very very bad person. my adivice is you take other instructors. others are way better than this instructor. didnt like him at all. not helpful
If you want to learn a lot from a math class, this is definitely one to take. This teacher is very informative, sometimes too much so. Every lecture is packed with new information. If you have a question don't hesitate to ask because sometimes he blazes right through all the material. If you study and ask questions, you are guaranteed at least a B.
he is very very very bad instructor over all in the cscc and the whole world. not recommend you to take.
Only prof that taught Business Calc so I was forced to take him. Passed but wasn't easy. Grades tough, quizzes aren't worth much overall. Final worth 30% and exams fill the rest. Fail an exam and you're likely done for. Make sure you attend and don't miss anything, he has a zero tolerance makeup policy. Only about 7 students by the end of semester!
I found this class very difficult but not because of the professor. Prof Nedel was very clear in his lectures and was very helpful when asked questions. Downsides-only points are: 6 quizzes and 3 tests+final and he doesn't give out practice quizzes or practice exams. The class is tough so you need a lot of study time!!
He is an extremely hard grader, he reads the stuff directly out of the book and doesn't go more in depth on it. The homework is nothing like the actual tests/quizzes, the problems are like nothing you've ever seen and there is no half credit and if you don't write your answer his way: yeah, you fail. Never take a class with him as the professor
Had Nedel twice, once for 1150 (Precalc) and again for 1172 (Engineering Calc); and I can tell you he's wayyyy better in higher level mathematics than in lower level ones. Avoid if you can if you're a lower level Math student, but don't worry if you're taking 1151 or higher.
Do NOT take his course over the summer. He crams multiple sections into each class and waits a week or better before giving a quiz on that material. He also teaches multiple sections the day of the quiz. You must have a proficiency in math in order to follow his lecture. Quizzes are outrageously difficult and you rarely have enough time to finish.
His class was really hard. I kept on getting fs till the very middle of the semester so i decided to drop it. He teaches on and on and doesnt care if students understand what he is teaching or not. You can only pass his class if u have all the time in the world to solve all the calculus questions in your textbooks.u have to know formulas for tetsts
Professor Nedel is the most amazing, smart and very helpful instructor I have ever met.Trust me or not, I NEVER practice any of the homework assignments or read the book. His lecture notes and examples were enough for me to pass his class with 93%. All you need to do is ignore all these bad reviews and STUDY HARD. I would definitely recommend him!!!
Horrible teacher. He doesn't explain things and gets irritated when you ask questions. His tests and quizzes are nothing like the homework or what you do in class. Don't take his class if you have the option.
Do not listen to the people that say that John likes to rush through class because that is what the math board makes ALL professors do he barley finishes up on time. His notes are spectacular and are way better than the book. If you come to class ready to learn and you take the class seriously you will pass. I got a B even though I got Cs in hs
Blocks the board! He works out problems quickly so you have to catch up your notes while trying to listen to him solve another example. He has a slight temper VERY INTELLIGENT. was ready to drop the class mid semester stuck it out and ended with a "B" very much a work for your grade class starts easy then difficult then easy. I don't Recommend him.
Professor Nedel is a very smart man but not the greatest teacher.. He goes through the notes as fast as he can, leaving no time for comprehension, or barely even enough time to copy everything before he moves on to the next problem.. The man certainly knows his math, just not a good teacher, Would not recommend
When it comes to this mans class, be prepared to have your questions avoided. He does not like to answer any questions. His quizzes over chapters from previous 2 weeks are after 2-3 lessons of a new chapter that is not on the quiz in the same day. He barely gives any time for quizzes. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! smart man, terrible, horrible teacher.
This Professor is the worst teacher i EVER taken in my life. Eventhough the material is hard he makes it SUPER hard. PLEASE avoid him in Math 1172 if you can because the way he teaches can be overwhelming. Also, get ready for your Q's to ignored, he moves Too fast and Quizes and Test are confusing if not HARD.
If you show up to class, take the notes, and study off of his notes you are sure to get an A or a B on tests and exams, usually the examples he covers in class are on the exams. Study your notes and do the homework. Professor Nedael is very helpful.
Another horrible CSCC teacher. His class is very fast paced and he rushes through material without caring whether his students understand it or not. Expects you to remember everything you've ever learned in math. Doesn't allow for enough time on his exams or quizzes. He also takes lots of points off little errors on the exams and quizzes.
He is really professor. Just go to his classes and you would get A or B.
Get ready to run a sprint through the material in MATH1172. I kind of don't blame him for that there's a lot to cover. Mentioned in a rating he does block the board sometimes... The good thing is he does give good handouts and if you do the work you'll pass his class. The course starts easy then difficult then back to easy, so try to stick to it.
Mr. Nedel was one of the best math professors I've ever had. He's clear and precise. His lectures in class match exactly what's on the exams and he gives you plenty of examples in class. I enjoyed his class and his teaching method immensely.
Mr. Nedel was a fairly good teacher for 1172. There was a ton of material to get through so the class seemed worse than it really was. The homework was very hard but the tests and quizzes were relatively easy. His hand-outs also helped get the basis of the concepts that were covered. He does block the board a lot though. Overall a great guy.
Take notes in class. Participation is key!! Grades quizzes and tests there. Expect grade in 30 minutes or less after taking exam. Notes usually clear cut. Loves to get into his Math land so you have to bring him back to explain. Other than that, a really good math professor.
He comes across as cold at first but he's actually nice. Show up for class, take notes, do the extra homework (not just the ones turned in for credit) and it will help a lot. Calculus is hard, you will have to study, but an A is not impossible.
I took Calculus with Nedel and he was pretty damn good. He gives good lectures, and basically if you make sure you write down all the notes and do the graded homework you will absolutely destroy every test or quiz in the class. He does go fast though in class but I just wrote down the notes and looked at them when I was doing the Hw.
Good teacher. Moves quickly, but thoroughly, through lecture. Make sure to take notes. Quizzes and test are easy-average, often uses examples from the notes as quiz questions.
If you don't want to LEARN math, you probably shouldn't take his classes. Yes, he blocks the board. For two seconds. Then he moves. It's fine. He answered all of our questions nicely. He does have a lot of material to get through so that might be why he seems irritated to some. Never rude. Smart. Thorough. Fair. You need to have the prereqs.
Mr. Nedel does great lectures Id say, but, his grading absolutely ruins the WHOLE thing. Heres a quote from him responding about how he'll grade a problem, "It depends on my mood"... Scary... His grading is petty, and harsh. I took 18 credit hours for the past 3 semesters with challenging courses and got straight A's, so its not me being lazy...
This professor is very easy to follow. As long as you come to class, you'll understand the material. He's great about answering questions in class. You are ultimately responsible for your grade; homework is optional (and the only reason you'd need the book), and the only grades you receive are from quizzes and tests. Taking him again next semester.
Nedel really helped me succeed in Calculus 1. If you study the notes directly then you will pass the texts and quizzes easily. His lectures are boring, but you can learn it later, worry about writing it all down. Can't wait to have him for 1172!
John is a great guy, he is very passionate about what he teaches. He gives many quizzes and tests but is a relatively easy grader. His notes give you everything you need to know, and he moves at a good pace throughout class. There is no required homework, and you do not need the book, although, you can use it as aid. P.S. He loves his jorts!
I've NEVER been good at Math my entire life until now! Mr. Nedel as a teacher is amazing. His lectures may be fast paced but he covers everything that he asks for on his quizzes and tests. All you have to do is attend class. His quizzes/tests are short and to the point. Some are only 3 questions long. Practice is a must! Great teacher!
He explains very well along with looking like and sounding like he enjoys what he does. If you don't do the work you wont pass, but that's life right. He is easy to talk to and prepares you very well for the quizzes and tests you will take. You'll move onto your next math class with a true understanding of what you have done so far.
Lectures are some of the best I've ever had from math teachers--I rarely felt lost or confused, and when I did it was usually because I had missed a class. His very hands-off approach to homework and quiz/test review was a problem for me--HW was an issue thru MathLab because he uses the defaults, which frequently didn't line up with his lectures.
Really cool dude. He teaches really well, just the material is tough. Nothing too excited but a good straightforward professor. Grades are just based on quizzes and tests. And he grades them real quick. Fair professor just do your part
Pros: Nice guy, lectures are interesting, easy to get a hold off Cons: Grades are heavily based off test taking skills, final is crazy difficult, hard to get your grade back up, not curved, grades generally for correct answer rather than work. Do not take this class if you are not a good test taker.
Great professor pay attention, show up to class, do your homework. Simple guy, do your work and know your stuff and you will get an A or a B. Unlike so many professors his grading system is fairly generous (drops bad quiz and homework). I would recommend John to any student who actually cares about school and is capable of applying themselves.
I really enjoyed class with Mr. Nedel. He does an exceptional job of giving detailed notes in class and giving theory behind things. He is thorough and has very clear expectations for class and assignments. He does grade a little heavy but he grades very fair. I wish I could take every math class with him. I would 100% recommend him!!
Awesome professor. He made difficult topics very easy to understand and tells you exactly what you need to study for on tests and quizzes (He usually goes over it page by page and tells you what types of questions are on each page). His notes go fast so get ready to write. He makes you earn your grade, but he gives you all of the tools you need.
Not a lot to this guy. He's nice but doesn't take any crap. Structure of the class was beautiful and easy to follow. NO HOMEWORK REQUIRED. Good at updating blackboard with grades and synopsis of what was covered in class in case you miss a day (not recommended though because his notes are not posted online).
He moves through problems at a breakneck speed without explaining anything. you will hate your life if you take this class. do not take him, you will regret it.
Gives good, detailed lectures so don't miss class or you won't know what's going on. Class grade depends heavily on test grades (65% of total grade based on two tests and final). Ask questions if things are unclear and d finitely pay attention and take good notes. Know trig formulas before you start this class. (A+ for wearing jorts every class)
I do not recommend this professor if you (1) do not appreciate math, (2) struggle to pay attention to a large object scribbling numbers on a board quickly with the expectation you know what he is doing.
Professor Nedel is obviously passionate about what he teaches. He is a bit odd in his delivery, but he provides great information in his lectures and will actually walk you through what you need to know on quiz's and test's. As long as you do exactly what he tells you to do on assignments, you will do very well in his class.
He seems like he cares about students, but has poor social skills. He gave few examples in class and was not welcoming during office hours. We were told everything that would be on each test/quiz. He writes, and teaches, very quickly. He would be a good professor for people who already have taken the class or those who really enjoy math.
I took calculus in high school and it was so much easier to understand. His teaching techniques are very poor. He isn't very helpful at all. He's very nitpicky with grading as well. Basically, you show up, take 3-4pgs of notes and leave. He writes on the board in a microscopic font. So if you think you have 20/20 vision, think again.
Easy to follow and makes math seem interesting. Best thing is quizzes and tests are graded almost always on the same day they were given. NO HOMEWORK!!
John fundamentally misunderstands his role as a teacher. Other people have mentioned, but have not adequately conveyed, how inconsistent his grading is. He does not provide a dynamic classroom experience. There is no group work. There is no interaction, really. He will not work with you. If you have some kind of problem, you're screwed.
Weak social skills. He writes on the board so small and does the problem so quickly you're just trying to write everything down without actually thinking and trying to understand what you're doing , which leaves you confused in the future. No homework but that means your grade is based off tests and quizzes. Quizzes are usually once a week.
His class is fine, doable
Professor John Nedel, though very unique, he is a real gem to the math department and every student that walks through his door! He is not there for silly side conversations or to goof off. When I walked in his class, it was 100% structur to the second. I complained about that, but it got me thorugh a tough course, and I have now grown to miss it!
He teaches at a high speed. Very note heavy. Class is very test heavy. As for grading he's overall tough. On a quiz worth 40 points, a problem was worth 8 points he took one point off for not abbreviating pounds/foot. Showed work, right answer, but 7 of 8 points. I talked to him after class and he refused to give me the point. Bad social skills.
He is not willing to work with you and is a very hard grader. If you make one little mistake he'll take off multiple points. Terrible socially.
This professor is not capable of sympathizing with anything aside from a math book. I had a concussion and he made no moves to assist me in staying on track in his class. He doesn't teach either, he talks and scribbles without explaining. Sir, we know YOU know how to do the math, it's your job to teach US how to do the math. 0/0 would not recco...
Very test heavy as well as note heavy. Hard grader and is not willing to work with students. Gives any sort of study guide just one class before test. Also told classmate and I to get out of class if we were going to talk, and we were discussing his notes. Could not read his writing, so half of it was needed to be explained to me by classmate
DON'T take summer class w/him! End of my 2nd yr (all A, not with him!) Calc II in 9 weeks not easy class, w/him a nightmare!LONG lectures w no interaction or time to process all what he quickly writes on board! Tests: his way or it's wrong! knows math but.. not very interested in student success! Be Aware Hmwk 0% if is not how 'he' wants them!
Smart prof but not a good teacher. Solving an example on the board from the textbook examples is NOT teaching. If you dont show complete silly work dont expect any credit, tough grader. DONT TAKE HIS SUMMER CLASS if you want to pass the class.
Fair professor. Tells you what is on the quiz and gives good examples. Easy A or B if you just pay attention in class and do your homework. It's not even necessary to do all the suggested problems just make sure you get the examples in class. During exams make sure you show your work and you will be fine.
He's a good choice. He writes all notes on the board and explains how to do everything. He tells you exactly what will be on the quizzes and tests (even the final). No homework.
If you like math and are good at it, this class will be easy. His lectures are long and boring. He tends to over-explain a lot and it gets boring. There is little homework required and he tells you what is on the test/quiz.
worst prof ive ever seen. takes off half your points for a question if you miss one thing. his way or no way even if you show your work. ive had to teach myself the entire class because his lectures are overcomplicated and confusing. he literally said "the author of the textbook is wrong" after i gave an answer in a format he didnt like. 0/5 WORST
He will get upset if you try to dispute a point on a quiz or test, even if you are correct. Many times he says that the author of the text book is wrong. Home works are out of the textbook, but lectures are his own notes. Any grades are usually posted the day you turn it in. Reviews what topics will be on the quizzes and tests the lecture before.
Mr. Nedel is an adequate professor. He relies heavily on example problems to help you become more fluent in each topic. Before each test and quiz, he tells you which question is about which topic, so you know what to study in advance. Not only that, but his tests were fair and related to the lecture. His lecture was just a bit dry sometimes.
Was honestly the worst class I've ever taken. Once he started writing on the board you had to keep up and hope he turns to see if there's any questions.
Decent professor, no hw and he tells you what kind of questions will be on the quizzes/test so you know what to prepare for in advance
If you got by with ease in high school math classes then you will in this class too if you truly apply yourself in class & out. He goes super fast when doing notes. You usually have a quiz every week and a test every 3 ish weeks. His grading is strict so make sure the answer is crystal clear. Homework doesn't count for a grade, just for practice.
Was not a fan of his lecture style, speaking to the whiteboard the whole time. Very specific on grading and goes fairly fast. If you don't enjoy math at all, avoid this class. Also, he is very monotone, thus this class is prone to leading to naps. Don't need the book for anything.
ATTENDANCE IS TAKEN EVERY CLASS! Easy to understand lectures; clearly passionate about math and teaching. A bit hard to access outside of class though. Homework was optional, the only graded assignments were tests and quizzes which can make or break your grade. No retakes whatsoever for either so if you miss one... good luck. Overall great teacher.
He is one of the best Math teachers in CSCC, Clear, Organized, and direct. with keeping up with him, not only you will get an A but also, you will understand math and love it. I took 2 classes with him and I got an A in both.
Never take a course with him. Hes a tough grader, and would never give extra credit.
I had John Nedel summer semester 2020. Trigonometry. Due to COVID-19 this course was integrated online. Grades are quick with adequate feedback. Homework is optional so really study up before the 6 quizzes and 3 tests as they are your only grades. However, you can drop your lowest quiz score. Good dude, hard class. Good luck.
I had a great experience. I took business algebra in the fall 2020 semester. Due to COVID-19 this course was integrated online. I typically struggle with math, but Professor Nedel was great. He records and posts his lectures, grades & responds to emails within 24 hrs (normally even less), and it seems like he genuinely cares for his students.
Prof. Nedel was very helpful. He is great at lecturing and makes it enjoyable.
Theres 7 quizzes, 3 tests and the final. You can drop your lowest quiz grade and he offers 1% extra credit at the beginning of the course. He demonstrates everything very clearly in the recorded lecture videos and explains thoroughly as he goes. If you even try a little bit you should at least get a B.
I think Nedel is a great professor. I enjoy math so i enjoy his class. His lectures are specific and leave me to understand the topic. The class is based on quizzes, tests and the final. No homework. One extra credit opportunity. If you arent a good test taker i do not recommend. quizzes are 2-4 pages and tests can be 4-10 the final was 10.
Professor Nedel's lectures were extremely boring, but clear and easy to follow online. The quizzes and tests are very similar to the lectures and make them very easy. Hes easy to reach and talk to if you ever have questions as well.
This class was alright at best. I took Math 1130 Business Algebra online because of COVID. If you watched all his lecture videos you would do alright. There were quizzes every week but homework was not mandatory. He was hard to get ahold of and he was very tough on grading If a quiz wasnt turned in exactly right.
Do not take his class if you have the choice. His lectures are excruciatingly long and he goes fast. He is a tough grader and is unforgiving when it comes to accommodating students. Dropped the class after a zero on a test tanked my grade because he wouldn't accept my work excuse.
This professor has no sympathy when it comes to technological issues. He gave me two zeros on two different assignments that were due the same night because my printer and scanner were not connecting to my laptop. He also makes multiple mistakes in his online videos, and there is no way of correcting him because it is an online class due to Covid.
I mean he is a good teacher but I do not like his teachings. I have him for my autumn 2021 semester and his class is really difficult. He goes to fast. How he explains things are so confusing. The day we have a quiz he doesnt do no review but continues onto the next section but when it comes to tests he does reviews for it.
Prof. Nedel is very clear and consistent in his lecture videos. I feel I have a solid foundation moving forward. However, he is unforgiving about missing tests and quizzes, which comprise the entirety of the course. Watch the lectures, take good notes, and apply yourself. I hope to take more classes from him in the future.
I took Mr. Nedel over the summer online and I think that his teaching method is great. He has no homework and all his lectures are videos so no required attendance. Make sure to take good notes since you can use them on quizzes and tests. (He also drops the lowest quiz score). Had about 5 questions per quiz, 10 on the test, and 20 on the final.
Do not take his class. I dropped his calculus 1 class after about 6 weeks. His lectures are nearly impossible to keep up with, he hardly interacts with the class at all and scarcely pauses to make sure the class understands. If you dont easily grasp math concepts, this class will be a serious challenge. I have never struggled so badly in a class.
To be honest, I've heard mixed opinions about this professor and I can understand why, but I appreciated his teaching style. He lines out exactly what to expect on quizzes and tests which makes them very easy. As long as you can understand the example problems done in class, you should have no problem getting easy As on all assignments given.
Overall professor Nedel was great. His class was almost entirely lectures, but they were easy to follow. If you take good notes about the quiz and test overviews and study the homework it isn't too bad. He drops the lowest quiz grade but will not allow retakes on anything. I would definitely take his class again.
The class was very easy over the summer, he did not make us log onto class except before quiz or tests. All is open note and was very easy. His videos explain his thinking process very clearly. Definitely take his class!
Extremely lecture heavy and very mundane classes, 75% of the grade in this class is based on exams and quizzes. Prof. make the lengths of these quizzes and exams borderline impossible to finish in the given time frame.
Don't recommend Professor Nedel to anyone who needs extra practice to understand a concept. He goes fast and doesn't care if students aren't comprehending. He speed writes on the board and lectures aren't engaging at all. He replies with sarcastic answers and isn't caring. Homework is optional and your grades are based on quizzes and exams.
Unfair, and will promote the book but the HW in it is not taken for a grade
If you are looking for someone that dosen't know how to teach hes the perfect guy for you. He speed runs all his lectures and dosen't know how to communicate with his students. makes it hard to find practice problems for the test and qzs. hw isnt graded so your whole grade revolves around scores from your tests/ qzs I would look for another teacher
ongoing and boring lectures. He only grades tests and quizzes, and is awful at explaining things. had a disrespectful experience with him, I asked to step out during an exam, which he said was alright so long as I left my phone. I did so and was given permission too, but when I got back, he was outside the class, yelled at me, pointed to classroom.
He doesn't give many practice problems for you to do individually in class so you have to bank on doing the work on his MyMathLab. He doesn't interact with students that much. He kind of just talks at the class. It's hard to ask questions because most of the time you're trying to copy what he wrote on the chalkboard.
This class is awful. His lectures are so hard to follow, and he is not helpful. The exams are so hard, and also 8 pages long... If you are looking for a good professor, do not take his class.
Honestly, this is the worst teacher I have ever had. He lectured the entire class and if you had any questions, he told you there was no time for questions and made rude comments on how it makes no sense to not understand. He was unwilling to help students understand the material, very rude, lectured for two hours straight, super harsh grader.
Professor Nedel was easy to understand. As long as you study for his tests, you'll do fine. Pay attention to the lectures and go over practice problems from the week and you'll do well on his weekly quizzes and tests.
Not sure why Professor Nedel has so many bad ratings. Math is my worst subject, and he made everything very straightforward. Before tests his review sessions were very helpful, he'd tell us exactly what type of questions to expect and his worksheets were pretty much the exams. Was responsive in email. The only thing was his lectures can be long.
He grades on few assignments, has unnecessarily tough grading (taking away points if you don't spell the answer out in words, despite having it listed in three graphs). He has the audacity to say make up tests/quizzes aren't allowed because its too much work for him. We had a sub for one class that made learning so much easier. Choose someone else!
A lot of the reviews of him are a little over dramatic He has it down to a system and really knows how to teach the material, you should attend. If you pay attention, and actually practice the problems you should be able to do well. He will tell you the exact type of problems that will be on each page of tests and quizzes. He knows how to teach!
Professor Nedel's class can be a hit or miss. While he explains concepts clearly, he moves through the material quickly and doesn't always provide enough opportunities for individual practice. Using unstuck AI and the free textbook can help fill in the gaps.
He is a genius with this material, but his teaching of this material is not great. He lectures very fast and doesn't leave opportunities to ask questions during class. He doesn't take any homework for a grade, so your performance is based solely on tests and quizzes. I found his tests and quizzes to be very challenging as well. Not approachable too
Awesome teacher, lectures are a bit boring but you are able to understand the material. He doesn't give you a crazy amount of homework, and has test reviews during the weekend.
Many reviews are very dramatic, however, professor Nedel is an amazing professor. The course has lecture videos, MyMathLab assignments, and worksheets for every topic. He has office hours that you can go to if you're having any difficulty, and he has a review before every test I recommend going to or watching the video of these lectures.
Honestly I thought he was a good teacher and made the material relatively easy to understand, I dont understand all the bad reviews. He did a review for tests and the final over zoom which was helpful and told us exactly what problems to expect. The textbook was useless and never had problems relating to what we were doing.
I thought the class was set up really well. The lectures were long but informative and I did not even need to read the textbook. He gives great review sessions before each test where he says exactly what questions will be on the test. He grades fast and seems to care a lot about math. There are also multiple extra credit opportunities.
THIS CLASS WAS AWFUL. This might have been different had it been in person but it is extremely time consuming. This class took up my entire week and I always felt behind. He is super great when it comes to test reviews but was honestly rude when I had asked questions.
I took his online class. Some sections you could simply skim and do the homework in 30 minutes for the entire week, other sections took longer. It all depends on how well you are in math. The first third of this class you should've learned in high school. 3 Tests, 1 Worksheet a Week and MyMathLab. I probably spent an hour a week on this class.
It's incredibly hard to follow this professor. His long and hurried lectures make it difficult to follow along with the content. He doesn't take the time to thoroughly explain subjects. The tests are tough, and he doesn't prepare you well for them. I wouldn't suggest his class. Be careful what you choose.
Assigned specific dates for quizzes and tests. Finished a unit early, and would continue on to the next unit only to take the previous unit's quiz halfway through when you're learning new stuff. Lecture heavy and not interactive with the class. Only grades are the quizzes and tests. Homework does not count for much. A nice guy, but bad class.
He is a mid teacher. His lectures are long and hard to understand. He moved very very fast and doesn't explain things all that well. He is VERY tuff graded on homework. I needed this course for me to graduate this semester and ended up having to drop it. Very disappointing to say the least. Really didn't get much help from this guy.
Great proffesor just do what he says and study what he say and you'll do great 10/10 extremely clear explanation but sometimes he doesn't answer questions great.
He is a very tuff grader and on test he does have a review but it seems as he is trying to trick you. He won't tell you what you really need to succeed on test , the questions are always way different them you studied for.
Professor knows the topics very well and is easy to approach. The final is worth significantly more than other assignments, so even if you are doing well, it could tank your grade. He is a tough grader and will not change grades, even when he is wrong and admitted his mistake. If you need accomodations, steer clear! I did learn some though!
