Very, very funny dude.
He spends too much time TRYING to be cool and not enough time actually teaching.
Classic example of WM (B-) class, protect your GPA if possible.
cool, laid-back, tests pretty easy
Entertaining and not the worst class in the world 201 harder than 202

big ego and the tests SUCK

He is a little harder then the other intro prof's but a lot more fun if you like sarcasm.

funny
please change clothes. terrible prof. most ambiguous questions ever.
tests are tricky but he'll round them up so not too bad. interesting lectures.
Very smart, very entertaining, very good teacher.

Entertaining class; if you do the workbook before tests, it'll help a lot, there are lots of similar questions
Funny, good lecturer. Bad testmaker, overconfident guy--too much hubris. Too hard for intro class.
he's funny, clear, available for extra help if desired, and he loves his denim shirts and khaki pants.
LOVE THE CLOTHES!!!
The only prof I've had that can really captivate my attention for a full 90 minutes. Incredibly funny, totally interesting. People wine about his tests, but they don't realize his curves make it so a 60% is usually an A. Highly reccomended.
My favorite teacher; Nezlek is entirely captivating. He grades hard but teaches well, which is my favorite kind of teacher. If you listen to him, you'll do fine.
He is a very entertaining professor, very funny and sarcastic, cusses all the time, his lectures do a good job at clarifying concepts in the book and adding supplemental info and examples, he curves a lot on tests, pretty easy A, very interesting subject
he says some random things in class that don't seem important enough to write down but always show up on the tests. pretty good lecturer.
Always an entertaining lecture with Nezlek, but don't expect him to come to class on time! Definitely take.

Absolutely hilarious... a must take class
He is a great professor to take if you have to take an intro psych course! The class is lively, he is hilarious, and full of interesting tidbits of info! The exams are not easy, but not overly unfair (study hard!) I would definitely recommend him.
Gives obscure multiple choice exams with ambiguous questions. Nice guy, but crass, immature humor. NOT the easy A some describe. (First exam class average was a 68% before adjustment.) Take detailed notes during lecture and memorize the book.
Hilarious- has a cult following here. Tough tests- read the book- notes are pretty useless- go to class for the laughs.
quite a character
Absolutely hilarious!! Class notes never seem to help. Make sure you read the book! Basically, you go to the lecture for the laughs.
His tests are really tricky. His class was awesome though and I'm gonna miss not being in his class next semester. The tests are awful though.
Frankly, he's hilarious. The only class I've never started to fall asleep in, because he keeps it lively. Pretty much teaches out of the book, but inserts some stuff from his lectures into the exams. Exams are very picky information wise.
Nezlek is hilarious in and out of class, and is definately a nice guy. Too bad his tests are so detailed, and he requires that students participate in "experiment hours" (usually just psych surveys that take time) to complete the course.
Easy class, fun guy. Don't worry about the exams, even though they are intensely detailed. He curves. I pulled a B and didn't know a good quarter of the final.
Very interesting and hysterical. I felt like I was watching a stand-up comedian. Unfortunately, his tests are near impossible and a lot of the information I couldn't find in the notes or book.
awesome class. Hard, but fun
Hardest class I've taken here, but one of the most interesting. The readings took awhile though and were clutch to my acing the class. Excellent lecturer that Nezlek.
Really funny, great lectures! The tests were extremely detailed, but he curves and most of the stuff can be sorted out of the lectures (I never cracked the book, still got an A).
his lectures may be ok, but he is not at all helpful in or out of class with the material. I would never recommend his class to anyone.
Test are hard, must read the book. Funny but sometimes a jackass.
really funny guy. grade based on two multiple choice midterms and a final that was also multiple choice- pretty easy iA f you read book and go to class
He was funny during class, and the material was interesting. The tests were really hard and he doesn't specify what's on them. The book is painful to read and his lectures were naptimes.
Very entertaining lecturer. Test based on both class and book so be prepared for an "open field".
Great, interesting, clear lecturer. Reading the book is beneficial but not essential. Tests are multiple choice. Difficult exams, but he curves. B w/ no problem, A w/ some effort
Like everyone said, hes funny. I enjoyed going to his class. His exams, however, were impossible. I read the book last minute and went to class (most of the time) but struggled between a C and a B. Theres no way procrastinators like me could get an A.
Hard Tests, Great Class
Kind of an a$$. showed up to class 15 min late every day, Very funny, test are tough. Do the reading and go to class.
Class was rarely dull, although his jokes and comments are often at the expense of others (including students). He is difficult to get a hold of outside of class and acts like your an idiot if you have questions. Still, I did learn something from class.
Interesting, Funny, pretty easy. As long as you read and go to class you will get an A. You don't have to score well, just above average on tests to get an a. Loved his class!
DONT believe person below.Every1 else on track Nezlak is the real deal. Didn't miss a class or reading or much: no A. Best of lecturers BUT even 4the psych buf his test r oft ridiculous. B 4WARNED those grades my dril u another u kno wat humblin xperience
(+)Funny engaging lecturer/Yet not worth taking (-)Tests aren't "hard" (obscure, detailed exs) they're unfair and sloppy (non-class, non-textbook out-of-a** ?s(-)Emails SLOW if at all (-) Cogent Strategy "I try to make tests so no one c
Interesting lecturer, 10 min late to class every day, and multiple choice tests, while tough are curved, so it's not too hard to get a good grade
After doing everything possible in an attempt to get a good grade (reading the book several times, seeing the TA, going to class, doing online tests), I got a C. Nezlek also refused to meet with me. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS, THE PROF THINKS HE'S GOD.
My favorite professor so far. Funny and interesting lecturer, tests will murder you if you are not overly prepared. Take seperate book and lecture notes then combine them when studying for the tests.
Despite what people say, it IS possible to get an A from Nezlek (I got one both semesters). That said, you need to know both the reading and notes VERY well. Lectures are interesting though, and often hilarious.
most interesting classes of freashman year, he is funny though the tests do have some random questions
Hysterical, class is really enjoyable. Tests aren't bad, all multiple choice, straight from lectures and mostly text.
Professor was at least 5 to 10 minutes late to class everyday. He really doesn't care about you. His exams are very poorly organized. when you get them back, you spend an entire class period going over the mistakes HE made in grading (which is all scantron). Don't ask me how that happens!
Great professor; doesn't outline the chapter for you--expects you to read basic book stuff. He makes the class interesting, though he's often late. Reasonable tests; it really isn't hard stuff, though you do have to read.
Nezlek isn't all he's cracked up to be. The only reason why people think he's funny is that he doesn't give a damn. Shows up late, blows off students, politically incorrect. Going to class was pretty pointless and his tests are full of trick questions.
This guy is the biggest idiot and arrogant too. Tests are easy. If you take this class, I reccomend you read every bit of the assigned readings and not show up to class. He doesn't even show up a lot of times and when he does, he just pumps up his ego and doesn't say anything relevant.
He was funny and pretty cool, but his class wasn't very organized.
If you take psych, don't take Nezlek. Class is extremely boring, he's never around for help and when you try to schedule something with him, he makes you feel like you're wasting his time. Tests are pretty tough, and he's a slack teacher. Overall just doesn't impress me.
he is bum. not helpful. hard. and there are so many better psych profs. just wait until next semster and take it with some1 else.
Psych as NatSci. Nezlek is knowledgeable and definetly keeps class interesting and relatively enjoyable with his sense of humor. He interrupts his lectures and stays after class to answer any questions that students have. Definetly need to read the material to understand his lectures. Tests are challenging, but not impossible. Would take again.
Quite possibly the worst professor ever! He was always late to class and never seemed to make it clear what was needed for the exams. No notes or handouts. Class discussion was all over the place. Exams were hard, and you never got them back or went over them in class to know what you did wrong. Do not take this professor, take Pilkington
I enjoyed the class, but perhaps it was the material not the prof. To pass the tests one must read the book and some of the questions do come from the practice questions in the book, so do them!
I liked him. His main problem was that he was usually a few minutes late. He's a pretty intelligent intellectual; he knows some philosophy too. He's pretty funny. But mormons probably won't like him. I'm taking him again this spring for intro psych as social science.
doesn't make any sense
The class is interesting. He can be helpful outside of class if you come prepared with a thoughtful question. The tests are hard, but in the sense that he doesn't want you to repeat what the book says- he wants you to know the concept, be able to say it in your own words and you'll do fine. He comes off arrogant but that's just because he's smart
HORRIBLE. I was considering majoring in psych until I took his class...he makes something that could be very interesting absolutely dreadful. Don't take his class!
Interesting lecturer; pay attention in class and take good notes if you want to do well on the tests (just reading the book isn't enough). Always got to class 5-10 minutes late.
Interesting lectures...not too helpful though. Text material is dry. Tests are detailed and very difficult. The curve is a little harsh too. He's always late so don't rush to get there. Go into the class with a study buddy and work really hard to do well...
I really liked him. I thought he was funny, but if you're easily offended you probably wouldn't. Very interesting class. He doesn't just talk at you. His tangents were interesting and amusing but he also covered the material well. read, come to class, take good notes.
He's kind of a jerk and un-PC to a ridiculous level. He doesn't expect much from his students, but the tests are still pretty tricky. You need to take lecture notes because just reading the book won't keep you from doing poorly on tests. Lots of reading, lots of really bad jokes, but a pretty easy GER.
His humor gets in the way of your learning. The class is not hard but his tests are weird and he only covers about half of the material from the book in his lectures. However, you have to go to class. His lectures will ruin your test grades if you don't.
Classes seem somewhat unproductive and he seems to get up in front of the class and just improvise without any structure. His tests are worded poorly and he has a poor sense of humor. Shows up late every day, sometimes in sweatpants. To me, it seems as if his interests are elsewhere and he lectures on the side for a job. Try another professor.
This class was TERRIBLE! Lectures often make no sense, and the tests have nothing to do with anything in the book or anything he says in class, and most of them are worded so strangely that you don't even know what he's asking. Although he curves, it isn't enough to make up for the difficulty of the exam. I would NEVER reccoment this class!
Nezlek's class is really easy if you go to class and pay attention and if you actually read the book. He is a little on the strange side, but at least his lectures are interesting. He can be really funny, but his humor isn't for everybody.
Honestly, before coming to this class I was frightened to think that Professor Nezlek was a scary and a hard professor. However, he's a great teacher; he's interesting and a great lecturer, plus he's incredibly funny. Bottom Line: don't be scared by reports of Nezlek!
Very average. Funny lectures, but he'll go off on a tangent and that makes it hard to pay attention. Exams are hard and it seems like he tries to trick you (even tho he swears he doesnt). Exams cover 20% book only material, 20% lecture only material, and 60% material from book that was discussed in class. Manageable, but not recommended if ur PC
Nice and interesting person, but NOT a good teacher. Lectures make no sense and just seem to be his rambling thoughts. Is always late and lots of class time is spent just sitting in silence while he figures out what to talk about next. Exams are very tricky and you are tested on random lecture notes. Take with another prof if possible!
The guy's a ****bag. ONLY WEIRDOS ENJOY THIS CLASS. Material is easy but he makes this class hard by : 1. being the****tiest lecturer in the entire world and, 2. testing you on the most ridiculous material known to man. Totally turned me off to psych.
nezlek and his class are worthless. Today i took the final, it was the third time I went to class. The first two times were for the other two exams. He complains all the time in class about politics(die hard liberal). He only tests out of the book. I should be getting an A or A-, which is cool, it just cost me like 3 grand and he taught me nothing.
Professor Nezlek was one of the best professors I had at W&M.
The best advice I could give for this class is to take notes on the lectures and really review the book. If you take time to know the notes well, then you will do well the class. Nothing new is presented on the tests, just the information from the notes.
Professor Nezlek is smart and knows a lot about psychology, but he is a terrible teacher. He is normally 10-15 minutes late to class, he is vulgar, he doesn't have a lesson plan, and he is arrogant. Some questions from the exams come from in-class discussions, but most of them are totally random. Reading the book won't help. Don't waste your time.
Very subjective on the tests, and doesn't make sense for the materials. You have to teach yourself from the textbook, but his test is based on HIS own thoughts.. not recommended
This was not a bad class at all. I pretty much just came to every class, took the notes, skimmed the book for the exams, and got an A. He's pretty funny and really relaxed about the class. The exams are exactly what he says they'll be. The class isn't stressful at all.
Professor Nezlek is a pretty good teacher. There was no need to go to class because usually the material didn't show up on the tests and reading the book got me an A, but I also wanted to go to class because he is such an interesting and funny lecturer.
Really depends on what type of test taker you are. His tests are really hard, mainly because they have lots of "all of the above" "only a and b", plus his class is not well structured... I was interested in the subject before the class... but afterward, not so much.
You have to go to the classes because a lot of the test material comes from random, misc. bits of information he says during lectures. The tests are hard and you really never know what he's going to put on them. Go with Pilkington instead. She's boring, but you'll get a better grade in the end.
Tough. Tests out of his lectures, NOT out of the book. Hilarious, sarcastic, great stories... but there are many easier out-of-the-text psych profs if you're looking for the easy A
DO NOT TAKE!!!! He clearly doesn't care about his students and is only a prof to do research. Is very boring, and makes psych, a normally interesting topic, extremely dull. Can be funny at times, but it's a brief mirage of humor in 120 minutes of boredom. TAKE PILKY for this class!!! do NOT take Nezlek.
Hard class. Not really from book, more from class notes. Get off on tangents a lot, and 3 tests. Average grades are bad, and class wasn't really fun. People would fall asleep. Possible to get an A, only if youre like 1 in 10,000 or so. Nice, semi-funny guy, but class is not worth it.
Rude, arrogant, sarcastic, and unhelpful with unfairly difficult tests comprised largely of material barely covered in his wildly unstructured lectures. Worst professor I've ever had, do not take.
WORST CLASS EVER! This guy rambles off a topic and expects you to understand the material. He goes on tangents for 20 min and does not care at all about his students, actually he makes fun of them. His tests are hard, and has a curve that gives 11% A and 30% C. First test 61 out of 75 was a A, and the second test, 60 out of 64 was A,TAKE PILKINGTON
very interesting class. attend the lectures because he will include many test questions starting with "as discussed in the lecture...." .If you screw up on the first test (i did) don't get your hopes down and study really hard for the 2nd and final, he notes improvement. Test ?s are not tricky like ppl say...dont overthink them and you'll do fine
Nezlek gets a bad rap but honestly I think he's pretty interesting and for a lecture class (stright talking, no powerpoints) he actually usually kept me pretty focused. Don't get me wrong, he may seem a little arrogant at first but once you get over that he's not that bad. Def ATTEND class/take notes. Read book. Tests more on lecture.
How much these people like Nezlek is determined by their grade. Roommate and I went to most classes but only joked around. Did the same couple hours studying for tests. He got a C+, I got an A. If you're arrogant like me and my roommate, you'll like him as a person regardless of your grade. Compile notes of random references undoubtedly on test
Take notes and attend class, he tests on what he says in class, which isn't always in the book. Expects more than memorization. Level of test is harder than other teachers, but curve is rather generous
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, EVER! The class is totally useless and the exams are very detailed. He teaches NOTHING!
Nezlek is funny and interesting, but his lectures don't have any structure: he just gets up and talks. He doesn't help students along. The exam is on the book and the lectures in detail, but he gives you little guidance of what will be on it, and he has no lecture notes. He is entertaining, and you'll learn some facts, but can be really frustrating
This class is not at hard as some people say but by no means is it a walk in the park. You can get a decent grade if you take decent notes and read the text ahead of time. The tests focus on the textbook and are all M.C. Gives some interesting facts in class. Not the worst thing if you end up with him. Grade consists of 2 midterms and a final
His class was hit or miss for me.I either was interested or was annoyed by all his sexual jokes and pompous attitude.Read the book and go to lecture and you'll be fine on tests. He obviously is only teaching for the research. He doesn't have office hrs and told the class to stop sending him e-mails with questions because he doesn't want to respond.
Good teacher, explains things well. Tests are difficult, detailed, but fair after the curve if you've done the reading and paid attention in class. Can be annoying, makes inappropriate jokes. He cares about the class as a whole but not about individual students. Maybe not a favorite for personality, but his teaching ability is good.
Nezlek's class was entirely lecture based, which forced attendance, even though not mandatory. Even though he sometimes didn't understand all the concepts of natural psych he taught, the test were difficult. Fair curve afterwards however. Textbook reading is mandatory for this class, if you want to do well.
He is def. tough. You need to read his book and attend all the lectures but a good grade is very possible with work.
Absolutely fantastic professor. Definitely sarcastic; goes on political diatribes often, but if you can stand those, he's great. Funny, loves the subject matter, and knows what he's talking about. Tests are not as bad as they sound if you study, but freshmen might have trouble.
Probably the worst professor I have had at W&M. I never saw him outside of class, and in class, his monotonous voice and speaking style made the class arduous to attend. I can thank Nezlek for my newfound disinterest in Psychology.
We are coming up on the end of the semester and I must say that I would not recommend this class. His claim to fame is that nobody ever gets an A on his exams. He is only concerned with showing how intelligent he is. He does grade on a curve which brings your grade up substantially, but again, I DO NOT recommend this class to anyone.
Not recommended at all. The class frequently went on tangents and lectures rarely followed the book...if you missed some small detail in lecture, you were guaranteed to miss a question on the test considering he rarely asked questions about the big ideas. He was never available for help and obviously was only a professor for research opportunities.
Don't take this class with him. He's smart and funny, and a bit cocky, which is fine, BUT he doesn't teach you anything and the class lacks any structure, so as a result it gets unnecessarily stressful and frustrating. He's probably the worst professor I've had here.
Horrible teacher, doesn't really lecture. Basically read the book and you will be fine. If you don't procrastinate and read on your own you will get at least like a B+.
Nezlek made this course so much more difficult than it needed to be. He was impossible to follow when lecturing, and extremely disorganized.
I had Nezlek for both Natural and Social psych. Really smart and funny guy. Goes beyond the textbook so do go to his lectures! Also very helpful if you have any questions. Exams are hard (and fair) but he curves quite generously. Also he started using powerpoints last spring which made studying much easier.
Does not use power points and has a tendency to rant. Not very accessible outside of lecture and doesn't seem to like student questions, during or after class. No laptops, so you'll need to handwrite notes. Tests are somewhat deceptively worded, so be careful. Avoid if you can.
Professor Nezlek is funny and clearly very smart, but spends more time talking about gambling than teaching the material. I learned everything from the book, and going to class seemed like a waste of time. Definitely not the class to take if you genuinely want to learn about statistics. Let out of lecture early every day, but no grading criteria.
There is no structure to his class. you will have to teach yourself everything
Nezlek is very nice, however he's extremely unclear as to what he expects the class to know. He doesn't teach the material in the book (you're on your own for that), as his lectures are more about topics he finds interesting. His lectures are funny, but not too informative on the book topics. Tests aren't too hard, just unpredictable.
If you're willing to go through the book (which he sent to us for free), Professor Nezlek is great. It's important to know the material before coming to class, because, while he clearly knows the material very well, you have to do the same to be able to follow him. He's completely hilarious, and tells it like it is. Doesn't mince words.
Professor Nezlek is an accomplished statistician, but he has difficulty dumbing down his knowledge to teach an intro stats class. He prefers to teach concepts of stats instead of practical, useful equations. If you have him, go to class and write as much as you can on the exams and you might get an A.
