Very nice younger guy and truly wants you to learn. Lots of outlining the book but it helps you learn the material well and thats all you do in the class other than tests that aren't too bad, which are half multiple choice half short essay. Over all I think he is the best and easiest professor out of all 325 teachers that I hear of.
Avoid at all cost, very boring guy. Way too much reading.
Interesting class, but covered a lot of material. Would recommend.
This Guy was amazing. He made me work so hard but I learned so much as a result. He was very eager to teach and knew the material extremely well. The test were demanding but very fair. I would recommend everyone to take this class with him. He's also not bad to look at. :)
This was is an amazing class!!! This guy was great. He works so hard to make sure you know the material. The reading was demanding but necessary. I would recommend this class to everyone.
Lectures are entertaining, and he gives good "real life" examples to help you understand the material. Tests are hard and cover a LOT of material (multiple choice and essay), but he curves and we were allowed one page of notes. Definitely recommend!
He tries to scare you with how hard the tests are, but honestly if you do a good job on your notecard you will be fine I got a 99%. You have to outline the book which is tedious and we have one large group project which was kind of fun. There is one midterm and one final. Pretty easy class if you show up and read.
1 midterm, 1 final, 1 group project. You outline the text-tedious but helpful. Lectures are very crude and often inappropriate-you've been warned. Read the supplemental book, it will save your grade! If you attend class & read, you'll do fine. He's very intimidating at first, but the class is manageable. Getting a good grade is possible if you read
LOVED this teacher! Nolan is the bomb! Made really dull material fun & relevant. Do note page, EC reading, and class examples. Annoying that he does not give study guides or enough time for EC quizes and midterm but their easy. Learned a lot from him!
Kind of a rude for no reason. Definitely come to this class prepared to do a ton of reading and a ton of writing. Every class period you have a quiz that is 4 pages long and you only have 20 mins to complete it based on TEN CHAPTERS. It's a lot of work but if you do well on the quizzes you will be fine.
I had him for two classes in the same semester. The law class was better but was difficult. The 462 class was really easy but tons and tons of reading. Overall he was good and most of his classes were good and kept my attention. I liked him.
Nolan is an interesting guy. He uses examples that can be shocking. No filter on profanity. The class is straight forward. In the summer session, there are two exams that you get one page of notes front and back. Daily quizzes on EC reading. 4 Outlines from textbook. 1 Group project. Do the EC reading. It really can save your grade.
EC means extra credit reading. You will have to read a novel that is uninteresting and hard to follow for EC. He will quiz you on each ch. He will give no study guide or PPT for exams, which frustrated a lot of students because there's a lot of material so preparing for exams is rough. You have to read the whole text, coming to class is not enough
Took this as a summer class. Nolan makes a somewhat dull subject exciting. Uses a lot of crude humor to get his point across. I felt like I learned a lot from the class. Extra Credit quizzes were easy, just skimmed the book. Tests are long, but if you showed up to class and wrote down what he tells you, you'll be just fine.
This was a good class. He kept my attention throughout the semester and even though he said the exams were hard they were pretty straightforward.
Attendance is a must, but its okay because he makes the class fun. He will tell you to study 2-3 weeks for an exam and he means it. Definitely one of the hardest tast givers I've had. Extra credit quizzes and a group project. A lot of work, but if you are n top of your stuff you'll get an A.
I really enjoyed having him as a professor because lectures were very interesting and fun, but from an academic standpoint it was a little hard for me to follow. I did not take the class too seriously because his lectures seemed rushed and he is very funny. It is definitely possible to do well because he curves and offers extra credit.
Very easy as long as you jot down notes from the PPT during class. He tries to make lectures interestingfunny which helped me pay attention. I usually sparknote my readings for classes but that won't work in this class! Atleast skim the chapters before the quizzes and you will be solid (open book open note 30 minutes) TestsSTUDY. seriously
You get a full page front and back of notes for tests, and you'll need it because they aren't easy. He gives extra credit for reading outside of class. You have to show up to class because he doesn't post PowerPoints and he lays out everything you need for the test in them. Take a TON of notes and you should get an A.
Hands down best professor I've taken at UNR.
His midterm is a MONSTER and his group projects tricky, but i definitely walked away learning a lot and he never failed to make me laugh at least once a class. Even though attendance is not mandatory you will need to go to pass the class and he keeps it entertaining enough to go even when you don't need to.
Midterm, project, and final exam basically rule grades. He makes class fun, but hates when students skip class and is strict with participation points. He offers extra credit, but makes students work for it. His lectures are full of information and examples, if you like to ditch, you'll miss crucial information that will be on the exam.
Professor Nolan is a BOSS. His class is tough as hell but he enjoys what he teaches and shows it during lecture. Doesn't fail to make the entire class laugh every lecture as well. Don't miss class or you'll regret the decision. Take loads of notes, seriously. Group project is fun. Do any extra credit possible, you'll need it.
A lot of reading. There were 3 required books + the textbook. Weekly quizzes. The quizzes are open book and open notes, but you only have 30 minutes so there isn't time to look everything up. If you don't go to class you are doomed because he does not post the slides online. He gives a lot of EC for attendance. One group project. Exams are tough.
Didn't want anything to do with a Law class going into the term, but I have to say, Prof. Nolan made this the most engaging, and fun course I have taken so far at Nevada! HAVE to go to class to get all the information and how to do the problems, but honestly I looked forward to coming to his class and the 2 hours flew by. Tests are hard but fair.
Dr. Nolan is hilarious. He puts random pictures in his PP slides for no reason. Sometimes, he's a little over the top with his jokes, which I enjoyed, to be honest. He gave us a lot of grading help, dropping an exam and giving us some extra credit for attendance. Overall, I enjoyed the class, and the 2 hours flew by very quickly.
Nolan was great teacher, really funny, and made the class engaging. However, the class was work-intensive during summer: a weekly outline of around 6-10 chapters, daily EC quizzes, multiple chapters covered each day, a group project, and studying for two exams. 75% of the grade is the two tests and the group project. Work hard to get an A.
The only time you need the book is for the outlines which are really long. GO TO CLASS and take good notes that will help you on the exam. Group Project is dependent on the group you are with.
Nolan makes lectures fun. Sometimes inappropriate content; full of laughter nonetheless. PP's not posted online, attend every class and take notes on everything. EC quizzes add 10% to exam scores, plus EC given for attendance and campus MGT club participation. Grade dependent on group project and two exams w/ study guides; use note sheets on exams.
Nolan is a great guy with a warm southern accent. He loves to teach!! He loves midwesterners and loves to talk about his days on the ranch. His experience in law is vast, handling many contracts for Jerry Springer. So inspiring!!
Nolan is a great guy with a warm southern accent. He loves to teach!! He loves midwesterners and loves to talk about his days on the ranch. His experience in law is vast, handling many contracts for Jerry Springer, Honey Booboo, and Snoop Dogg. So inspiring!! Do not, not take his class. It will be your biggest regret you ever regretfully regretted.
Best professor I have had so far, gives extra credit, fair grader, very supportive to students and fun! I would definitely take his class and any other class that he teaches. I had a family emergency during the semester and he really helped me a lot. I highly recommend him, you will not be disappointed.
Professor Nolan is the coolest!! I love his cowboy boots and rodeo attire.
I love any class that Nolan teaches. There is always a load of reading, but he makes it enjoyable. It's really nice to have a real southern man in the classroom teaching us the way of the world. Group projects can suck since you can't choose your groups though. Show up and take the best notes as possible to do well on the quizzes.
This class was not bad. You must show up to class and be ready to read. He lectures heavily and note taking is a must. His grading is tough. Take advantage of his extra credit opportunities.
Nolan is such an inspiration as he he will make you laugh every single class period. The two hour flew by. No busy work, he tells you what you need to know. The exams are worth a large chunk of your grade so when he tells you to start studying a week before, he means it! Nolan is the best professor ever, I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot
I took this course over summer, it was fast paced but he made sure to cover as much as he could while also keeping the class entertaining. He is hilarious. He does curve his tests and allows for extra credit which I highly recommend doing. This class was difficult but with enough work put in you can definitely receive an A.
Professor Nolan is truly one of the greatest professors at the university. He does require you to do outlines of the chapters you read and the tests are a major part of the grade. He tells you exactly what you need to know on the exams and what he wants in your assignments. He is one of the funniest guys I met and honestly the best professor I had.
Nolan's class is designed to be difficult, but as long as you do the outlines you should be good. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities that help your grade a lot. Gives lots of funny examples in class, although does get a little sidetracked sometimes and skips through important information.
Nolan is definitely unique. I have never had a professor like him and his class made me think differently. Exams are tough but based on examples in class. I would strongly recommend him to other students and would take classes from again. Good professor.
He is hands down the best professor I have ever had! I wish I could take every class from him! He is HILARIOUS
Nolans class is definitely not easy, as law is not an easy subject to just pick up, but Nolans teaching style and his humor really helps you get through the class. His lectures are long & informative, but hes very funny and laid back. As long as you go to class and take notes, youll do fine
This class is amazing. Nolan is great, and he makes it fun. If you work hard you will get a grade. I recommended taking Nolan. Lots of reading for chapter outlines and extra credit . Go to class, read, and do the extra credit and you will get an A.
Tests are hard but he curves. Group Project is a pain if you have a bad group. But overall great class. I actually learned something in this class!
Professor Nolan is a hoot. His lectures are very engaging. The class is not easy, but it is worth it. He will try to scare you on the first day; don't believe him.
Professor Nolan made an otherwise mundane class fun. I looked forward to going to class everyday, mind you at 7:30 AM. Lots of extra credit opportunities, not much homework. TAKE GOOD NOTES > will come in handy for the midterm and final.
Professor Nolan is one of the best professors you can take. If you go to class, he basically gives you the answers to the essays (which are quite hard) for the midterm and final. Read the book, go to class, and do every extra credit opportunity you can. He is an awesome guy!
Heavy loads of content, but John is hilarious and a great teacher. 10/10 would take again
Dont let him scare you the first day of class. Study your notes and outlines ahead of time and youll be fine. I made the mistake of studying my outlines a lot more than my class notes for the midterm. Do the extra credit because itll really help. Make a fair contribution to the group project. Finally, youll really like attending his classes.
No cell phone or laptop use allowed in lecture. There is a seating chart for attendance, they take a picture of each class to verify you're there & in your seat. 50 MC & 5 essay tests... w/ handwritten cheat sheet allowed. Large group project paper/video. Typed outlines/notes for multiple chapters also assigned. Sit up front if you want to hear..
The class is difficult and test heavy but he makes it interesting and gives you extra credit opportunities.
Nolan is a great professor, his lectures are not boring at all and he has a demented sense of humor in the best way possible. Class is really test heavy but not as bad as he makes it sound, make sure to get into a good group for the group project because it's worth 30% of the grade
Nolan is very down to earth! His class discussions are engaging and classes are always so entertaining and never boring. He encourages everyone to state their opinions, and always respects what students have to say. I would definitely take him again.
Take the extra credit seriously. He affords you every opportunity to pass. His lectures are very entertaining. I recommend sitting in the front row, so get to class early until he gets the seating chart created. Take clear and concise notes, read, and do the outlines. Outlines count toward your overall participation grade beyond the 3 point grades.
Nolan is brilliant and hilarious. He has two very tedious tests that are quite overwhelming. However if you do the extra credit opportunities, you may do fine on the exams. I learned more in this class than perhaps any course before because his class forces you to pay attention if you want to do well. Show up for class and write good notes.
Great professor! He was hilarious and class was highly engaging. Lots of hw and test heavy
This class might seem easy when you look at the syllabus, but its not. There are 4 outlines throughout the semester that will be about 10 pages each. 1 mid term and 1 final. 1 big group project that he doesnt really explain very well. Thats all this class is graded on. Good luck.
He was just alright. You are only graded on group project, midterm & final, and group project. The group project was HORRIBLE. Brace yourself for that project. Other than that, as long as you read the book and do outlines you should at least pass with a B.
Difficult class, with lots of reading and material, not because Nolan is a tough teacher, class itself is alot of content if you're not pre-law. 2 exams and a group project. Half of the exam is off the textbook, other half of lectures, so you have to read the textbook and g2 class. Nolan is a great lecturer, funny, cynical, and informative.
Nolan is awesome. His lectures and exams are funny. Heavy workload though. Keep up with readings and attend class. On the first exam, you are better off if you RUSH. You are on a crunch for time. There will be a giant curve. Do the extra credit. The final is so much easier b/c you have more time. Not hard at all, just a lot of content
This one the worst class that I have taken this semester. The whole class is graded on 4 outlines that end up being 15 pages each. A midterm. A final. And a group project. Prepare yourself for the agony that is this project. No clear instructions. No feedback. If your group gives you a bad review you instantly get an 50%. Prof Nolan is bad.
I liked Nolan and the class was good. I attended almost every class, took notes and ended up with a A-. Overall I had a wonderful semester and I would recommend him.
I just checked and I got a B. His class is super dependent on the exams. There are a lot ec opportunities, which saved my grade. Class can be a little tough if you skip but getting an A is doable as long as you are on top of it. Im just lazy. Super helpful and class was engaging with interesting examples that made it easier to get up in the mo
While I like Prof. Nolan as a person, and he did try to make the classes entertaining, I thought that he was very rude outside of class. His criteria is not clear at all and help was almost non-existent outside of class. While the information is interesting and you can certainly learn a lot, you have to take excellent notes or you will struggle.
Guys sucks, class sucks. It's interesting material, he just seems to do whatever he can to make it as awful as possible. He's also super un-helpful. He doesn't have office hours, and doesn't answer emails. He assigns a group project that is super unnecessary, and has you read about 100-200 pages a week. Just a really terrible experience
just finished his final. Best part of my semester if you have the chance to take his course you better do it. Hes such a nice professor and he genuinely cares for all his students. Also his class is a really really easy A if that's all you care about. Tests are not bad if you have a grasp on the (cool) concepts.
Although the class has great potential to be super interesting and fun he decided to turn it into a joke. We do 6 outlines (10ish typed pages each) rewriting a very dull textbook for 3 total points and most people dont get full credit. Ppl gave up on doing them. Ive had bad teachers before and thats life but this was beyond bad.
Good professor, good class. I thinking about law school bc of this class. Thanks Nolan.
I enjoyed this class since the content is very relevant to your actual career. Two exams and group project make up the majority of the grade. I had no issues taking this course and I learned a lot. I would definitely take any class he's teaching.
Took this class for the mini session. Weekly exams and online videos. Everything was straight forward and clear to understand. Fun and engaging class and makes me wish I could have taken this class in person.
Professor Nolan was great. Took this class as a mini-session. His pre-recorded lectures helped explain the topics easily. The reading was tough. It's just a lot of info and is very dry. I found that watching his lectures than reading the chapter made it easier. He tries to make it interesting, and definitely had some of my favorite examples ever.
Worst professor I have had.
This was one of my hardest classes during college but Nolan was helpful and accessible. Definitely a lot of reading and notes but if you understand the concepts and ask questions you can get an A! One big group project at end of semester which was hard but doable, and Nolan is always willing to help!
Great professor and really explains the concepts, but there aren't many assignments. You have no homework other than reading the textbook chapters (which can take so much time), then you turn in 2 outlines over the semester. 1 group project. 2 Exams. Discussions once a week. Keep up and you'll be okay. Go to the zoom lecture if you have questions.
My favorite class I've taken my 4 years at UNR. Lectures are funny but pre-recorded, attendance isn't mandatory, he's very accessible, and a little awkward but I liked him!
This class really stressed me out for a bit just because of the way it's set up. But, if you do all the assignments, watch the lectures, and extra credit, then you shouldn't have an issue. He's not really accessible outside of the class time. I can tell he cares about his students, though. His lectures are pretty funny and entertaining.
I took professor Nolan's business law class Spring 2021 online since the school is closed. he posted all of his lectures to canvas. One group project and 10-15 page paper. optional classes on Tuesdays. Really interesting class and might be my favorite one I've ever taken!! Take his class if you can
He didn't make his class easy to navigate online, his assignments were never on the to-do list so they were easy to miss. He didn't grade anything until the very end and didn't post your final grade until the class was over. Exams/assignments were straight forward though and he knows his stuff. In-person I bet his class is way better.
Prof Nolan is great however if you dont read the book you wont pass the class. by far pay most attention to studying for the exams. AND PARTICIPATE IN GROUP PROJECTS cause if you dont youll fail.
worst prof ever!! tests are 90% of the grade and he doesn't provide the study guide til last min. took this class over the summer. he never posted anything on time. very confusing. he only curves if u do outlines. GET READY TO READ. HE IS DISORGANIZED
This professor broke things down so well. This was a tough time for me due to personal health problems & I am not sure I would've made it without professor Nolan. Pretty straightforward, but test heavy. I followed review sheet and ended up with A-. I highly recommend. THANK YOU!!!!!!!
He is very straightforward and seems like he truly wants you to learn. Study guide was pretty close to both the midterm and final. Take good notes and do EC and you shoul be fine. I recommend and would take again.
Professor John Nolan is the most underrated professor at UNR. Incredibly articulated knowledgable in Business Law. Now, if you want an A in his class it's tough but doable. Do the outlines 100%, they are 10 extra credit points each applied to both exams. He allows for a double-sided hand written standard size paper note sheet & they are curved
Really nice teacher and wants you to pass. He tries to make it as easy as possible for you to succeed. Lots of reading but virtually the homework is optional (extra credit).
John Nolan is a pretty laid back and his class is difficult but he curves the exams. There is a group project which sucks (I don't particularly care for them because I often have lazy group members). There are only three things he grades though so be careful.
Honestly was not sure what to expect, his class is very straight forward and even though he's not very animated when he lectures you can tell he has a great deal of knowledge and experience. This class is only graded by 3 things so take that into consideration. Definitely a reliable professor and he curves the exams.
Decent enough professor. 2 exams and 1 group project are the only assignments so they're weighted heavily.
Do the outline. Attend the lectures.
Took this as a summer course with pre-recorded lectures. Professor Nolan is a great at explaining at layman's terms and his lectures are really engaging. If given the chance, I'd recommend taking this class in-person. With that said, it's not an easy class. Read, show up to class and take good notes and you'll be fine.
Talks a lot about history that has nothing with the course. Sucks do not recommend.
Where do I even start. I gotta keep this short so I'll make a list -MAJOR stickler for the rules -Literally takes a picture of the class to make sure you are attending -Outside of class time and office hours, if you need his help, youre on your own. -Incredibly hard curriculum for non-law students -Doesn't show your grade until end of semester.
If you actually want to learn law take this professor. You'll need to read at least 2 hours of the textbook a week and go to the lectures. Test are hard but he gives a good curve. There's no actual assignments only 2 Tests a Midterm/Final and a Paper. 10% extra credit on midterm/final if you do the outlines for the readings
Listen to the bad reviews!!! Could not agree with this review more. "-MAJOR stickler for the rules -Literally takes a picture of the class to make sure you are attending -Outside of class time and office hours, if you need his help, you're on your own. -Incredibly hard curriculum for non-law students -Doesn't show your grade until end of semester."
I am honestly baffled that this professor can possibly have such great ratings. He is not tech savvy at all, can barely reply to an email so don't even try asking him for help. He's so unnecessarily strict and even went as far as offering extra credit to anyone who catches cheaters. Takes forever to grade exams too because he "needs to investigate"
Nolan makes the class sound so much more intimidating on the first day than it actually is. Law in general is a bit challenging but if you have a good note sheet and study main term that he says are gonna be essay questions you will be fine.He also curves quizzes, midterms, and the final which helps a lot.
If you do the homework and study his review sheets for the exam, you should do pretty well.
Pretty good class. I attended about 70% of lectures and did his extra credit and ended up with a A-.
