Nice guy, knows what he's talking about. Tests are pretty hard so you have to study alot. He is willing to help you if you don't understand something. Doesn't have the greatest handwriting and his lectures are just ok.
Helpful instructor, his tests are alittle bit difficult but its easy to get an A if you take advantage of all the bonus points for attendance, discections, lab quiz and homework.(He gives a lot of homework). The lab is Okay. You dont need the text book,he gives handouts for lab and lecture.
He looks exactly like Harrison Ford. Very sweet man, teaches fast but always reviews before a test. Tests are not hard, he eliminates a few that you got wrong plus adds bonus points. IF you aren't that interested in Biology take his class it isn't that hard
Does not use examples well, hard to learn from.
Notes are hard to understand and break down. Has favorites in his class. Tests are tricky and difficult. DON'T DO IT
He is brillant and always in study lab to help. Easy to talk to and he will work with you to help you not struggle. HARD tests/labs and long essay questions but he drops lowest score. He gives you notes per unit to follow, you must learn and not memorize to make it through the class! All around..hard class with alot of info but fair professor.
Class is pretty hard. He throws alot of stuff at you and doesnt really follow the book at all.Hes a good teacher and really smart, but tests were insanly hard
HARD!
nice guy, will help if you ask for it. unorganized notes, but provides homework which helps with tests. a very hard course for summer sessions!
Stay after lab after the lab test for the review for the lecture portion.
Dr. Norris is a good teacher. Make sure to stay after the lab test. He will discuss review questions which will be on the test.
Had him twice- love the man! Its not that his material is "hard" he just expects you to learn a LOT. But, if you come to class, do the homework, and study...you will do fine! He gives you lots of ways to help your grade rather than tests alone, ie: hw, assays, attendance pts, safety quiz...
You will receive lab & lecture handouts every 4 weeks. No diagrams or web. You must take your own photos. Tests are extremely hard with tricky devious questions. He doesn't review homework or tests with students. His job is to drive students away from nursing. He is demoralizing
Mostly nurses to be in his class. Unfortunately his experiences are not with nursing. Questions in tests often not related to nursing. For example "What is the anatomical term for the cuticle?" Answer: Eponychium I'm certain future nurses will need that information.
Nice man, weird notes. Tests are not super difficult but not easy either. HW is given to help with material and grades. A little old-fashioned- Uses an overhead still and does not put pictures he uses online. Overall, B-
Great Instructor, Really knows his material, he provides notes and also drops the lowest test grade. Highly recommended. Plenty of opportunities to make an A..
In the spring semester we had one test that covered 8 (eight) chapters! Way to much. Ten minutes quizzes for every class would be better for students.High tech for him is colored chalk. He is an extremely intelligent man, approachable, available ton discuss and help all students. I'd avoid taking him again.
John is great. He insists you call him John and is clear on class expectations. He is very helpful with explanations. He gives you the notes then discusses in class. You need to attend class. Lab tests are powerpoints but if you study and attend lab, you will be prepared. Lots of opportunities to increase your grade. His handwriting is atrocious.
took him for 08&09, tough materials really. Anyway, just study the notes he provided and memorize them, then u'll be fine. I made a 99/100 on his test just because I memorized almost every word in the notes.
He is a very nice person and very understanding. The only negative thing I could say that his notes are CONFUSING and incomplete. He also has used some crappy powerpoints pictures for the pratical. If you do your homework and not so hot on the tests you still can pass his class. Do not need BOOK!!!!
Micro with John has been a breeze this past semester. Amazing, sweet and helpful guy. I was not interested in taking this class at all but I have so he has made my stay in the class fun. Dont need the textbook! Just read the notes at least an hour everyday and I GUARANTEE an A!!
John made Micro understandable. Take him if you want to do well in the course and ALSO retain the knowledge.
Easy class, no book, recommend going to class even though he just goes over notes, they are a bit tricky! gives note packet &HWs that follow. study notes, then hw, then matching, for EACH section &test will be easy! &do the last page of notes [short essay -it will help on test]
Absolutely hard class. However, go to class and read the notes he provided, then you'll be fine.
Likes class participation
I had John for Anatomy. He was great! He provides notes. Everything on the test is taken from the notes. That doesn't mean the tests are easy! He repeats the important stuff frequently, which is really helpful when learning anatomy! His homeworks were very helpful and he is very nice about answering questions. Challenging class, in a good way!
Solid professor all the way around. Four exams and four lab practicals. Lowest lab practical is dropped. If you know the notes you will perform well on test, however, it's impossible to memorize 20 pages of notes. Tests are 35 mult choice, 5 short answer, 20 matching, and 1 essay. Study hard and you'll get a B, study extremely hard you'll get A.
This class is completely different from 1406. Aced the class but I have to say that this is the most I've ever studied in my life. If you're lazy, don't bother taking this class, or at least not with John. He is a nice guy, grades labs easily, very understanding, gives out quite a few extra credits, quiz on every lab which requires some studying.
VERY hard class. Keep up with material - there is no cramming for his tests. Understand, not just memorize, his notes. Doesn't use Bb. DO NOT miss a class or a lab. He notices. You must invest the time to get a good grade. Book great for backup info only. Lab can really boost overall grade. Super nice man.
His tests are VERY hard. Multiple choice, but the answers are all very similar. You must study his notes and read the test questions VERY SLOWLY!
Good prof. Requires a good amount of study time, but the test are fair. I like his format. He tells you what he wants you to know and expects you to know it. No guessing,
Interesting material, but the course fell far short of potential. Lab was completely useless. You get thirty page packets that need to be memorized to do well on each test. He doesn't test for concepts very well. He's hand in hand with the book, which helps because the book is a little clearer. Got an A, wouldn't take him again, but a great guy.
Great teacher!! I took him in microbiology and loved it! You will have to put in effort to make a good grade, but he gives you everything he wants you to know! He is super nice and very helpful if you have questions. He gives lots of examples to help out too. If you really put in the time to study, you will get an A.
Dr. Norris is helpful, approachable, and personable. He wants the students to do well. You have to study, come to class and take notes. There is graded homework and no study guide, but he does provide a lecture/note packet. Never opened the book. Went to class everyday, did homework and studied and got an a.
I had to take it for Summer term. It was hard, I worked hard, but he was VERY FAIR. He gives you what you need to succeed. I studied the assigned chapters for my first test and then didn't use the book except for reference the rest of the class. Just studied from his notes. Extra credit is available, including attendance points.
Good teacher in a subject I wasn't to interested in. He gives plenty of opportunities to earn extra points which I was grateful for since his exams are extremely difficult. He gives you detailed notes, that are a little confusing, but you don't need a book. He tests directly from his notes. Despite giving you the notes, the exams are still tricky.
Fast paced 8 week course. Unorganized notes but nonetheless a ton of notes that HE provides for YOU. No book needed. Lab exams not bad. He's a talker and sometimes gets sidetracked. All notes come from book. No final. Difficult exams but reading his notes should helps out ALOT. Cares about his students and gets to know them. Great grading system!
Dr. Norris is an excellent professor that knows what he is talking about and wants you to understand and learn the information that he is providing you, such as notes that he does testing and homework off of. You WILL learn alot and take that info for future use. Homework and tests are hard. Don't take this class with Phys or another hard class.
Norris definitely knows the material, but his lectures ramble. Test material is taken from his notes - long, single-spaced outlines, making it difficult to comprehend. Tests are tough, test essay questions differ from notes. All of this makes it hard to know what is most important to study, or how it all fits together. I made my own study material.
I loved this dude. His class was hard, but fair. He gives you all the info you need, so even if lecture is a bit fast or confusing the note packet he gives you, has it all. John is really approachable & helpful if you need it. Cracks me up too, funny personality.
He gives you a packet of notes and the entire test are based off of that, don't waste your money on a book, we didn't open it one time. If you study really hard for the practicals the information in the lecture notes will be more transparent and will help you understand the material more but don't count on getting answers from him.
John was a great micro professor. He really cares about his students and will do anything to help them succeed. He's pretty hilarious and definitely knows his stuff. His notes are jumbled, but easy to pick through. You don't need the book so that's a plus! He grades super fair and even curves when the class does below average.
John was a great guy. He's really passionate about biology and especially botany. He learned all of our names within three days and always returned our grades the NEXT DAY. Lecture tests and lab practicals are the grade, you get to drop one practical. Don't bother on the textbook. He gives out all his notes at the beginning of the unit.
John was a great professor! Very comical and always had many stories to tell during lecture. The only thing I didn't like was the heavy lecture material, he didn't state what we didn't need to know, we had to study the entire packet and half wasn't on the exam. Tough grader too but gives EC and HW so that helped a bunch! Study in detail!
He is clear about what he wants for you to pass/succeed in his class. Homework is long, but relevant to tests. He's a tough grader on homework. Take advantage of him during lab because studying for the lab practical the night before isn't going to work. During class, he will tell you what's important to know on the tests. Go to class.
I loved his Micro class! He is a very clear instructor and follows his outlines without straying. He gives TONS of extra credit opportunities, so take them! He gives moderate amounts of homework but they will directly help you with the test material. He is also hilarious. Highly recommend.
John is very approachable and is a nice guy. Buying a textbook is not really necessary for the class but definitely useful. His note packets can be somewhat disorganized with his outlining and often forgets to use the word "the". Make sure you know the location of each part of an organ John goes over in lab. Take plenty of pictures as well!
John is awesome! He really shows that he cares by working with you and wants you to talk to him when you're struggling. Homework can be long, but it directly correlates with the test. He does offer extra credit sometimes so that's nice too. He makes really long lectures bearable by cracking jokes.
Great professor. His lectures are so interesting. You have to keep up with the notes to be successful. I learned so much. Enjoyed lots of lab assignments. Hes great at explaining things. I would take his class again. Highly, highly recommend. Put in the work and you will pass.
Attend class every day -you will get points towards your grade that will benefit you. Have your PPE every day for lab. Record lab lecture and study models repeatedly it will help when tests come around. You must study hard! This is not an easy class! HW is lengthy and will get hard. Go to study lab! Find a study partner! Use a text book!
Took the summer 8-week class and regretted it at times. This course is definitely meant to be 16 weeks. John is amazing, but keeping up with the notes and rigorous exam and lab practical schedule was difficult. If you feel like youre falling behind, SEE JOHN IMMEDIATELY. Hes always willing to help and explain things more if you dont understand.
John was one of my favorite professors at ACC. The first test I took in his class, I realized that they are very detailed and you must study hard. After that realization, it was simple. He gives out packets with all the information you could need for tests, no need to buy a textbook. Memorize everything in the packet and you'll do great.
Very strict! Although he is knowledgeable, he conveys a harsh personality. There is a ton of homework and he is a very harsh grader. He is a smart professor but not a nice one.
Ugh, Dr. John was the best professor I have ever had in my college career. Hes funny, and whitty, which makes for an interesting lecture. He gives plenty of extra credit opportunity, is very clear on what he wants for his tests. Gives you the material to study and get familiar with. I wish I could take him again, but I have completed my sciences.
Be ready to do ALOT of self studying. You get a packet of disorganized material and are expected to know it in and out. Good luck!
I loved Professor Norris for my INTRO to A&P. It was a DIFFICULT class for sure but it was so worth it. GO TO CLASS! If you don't, you'll fail. If you don't STUDY, you'll fail. Although his notes are super lengthy, he makes it interesting and fun to learn. Don't slack off and you'll enjoy it. The hard work will be worth the grade at the end.
I loved this prof! He always went above and beyond to help his students and he even helped me with my other science courses I was taking! MICRO was by far my favorite science course at ACC and it was definitely because of John! He gave so much extra credit and other assignments to help bring up your grade so your grade isn't only based on tests!
He's funny and nice. Doesn't require textbook for 1406. Study his package, do homework, attend to class and you can get an A. He offers a lot of extra credit and he's a tough grader. He's caring and gives full instructor for each lab, ask him right away if you don't understand.
Professor John is really nice, but his class is more self studying. No reviews. No quizzes. He didn't post anything grades or anything on BB.
John is an amazing professor but this class was difficult and covered a lot of material. If you want to have a deep understanding and feel like you really learned about the subject youre studying; take John!
You get a long single spaced set of notes (20 pages) last page has the essay question asked on the exam. Need to know the notes very well so I made flashcards for literally every item. This is time consuming but I made an A. You get a homework packet and an extra credit packet 5pts (20pts total for semester). easy labs if you study the notes.
I loved John! Hes a character, for sure. He knows his stuff inside and out. John is very approachable and always happy to help, esp in lab. Hes tough and theres a lot of material (I took an 8 week course, which about killed me at times). But, hes very fair. All material is in his notes. No textbook needed. 1/3 of grade from pts other than test
John gives you all the tools you need to pass the class. His lecture tests are very difficult. Each unit he gives a 20+ page note packet & anything on it is fair game. Theres 1 homework packet & 1 extra credit packet per unit. A textbook is in unnecessary, I never bought one. Attendance is graded so definitely show up.
Excellent professor. Work as hard and effectively as YOU can and you WILL be rewarded. He is a hard grader, so be deliberate with your answers. Will talk to you about anything you want, so have fun! The semester will be hard, but have faith, there is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Norris is brilliant, and compassionate under a deadpan exterior. Don't miss a class/lab: folks who did paid the price. Xerox your homework/X-credit, do once to learn/hand in, & 2nd time to exam prep. Take photos in lab for visual flashcards for practicals. STUDY! His notes are the KEY for exams & practicals. Chip away every day at it, or else uh oh
Professor Norris is a great professor. His lectures are great, he plans ahead and knows his trade. Answers any questions you might have, you can email him and hell surely get back to you. He is very proper and grades fairly. Blackboard doesnt give you the correct grade, so he fixes things that blackboard doesnt detect. Great professor for micro.
Professor John was great
Prof John gives you 20 page packets per unit, and that's your study guide as well. He does tae attendance whiich is good because those are extra credit points he uses. John is a strict professor, but will definitely take him again. He makes you work for your grade!
Took online for distance learning. Lectures and labs online. Lecture notes can be confusing to look at first. Each unit contains a homework assignment, lecture & lab exam. I wasn't a fan of his test, I felt that he asked broad questions when he wanted specific questions. Overall, study and have material prepared, you'll pass.
I was terrified to take A&P 1 but felt lucky to get professor Norris. He provides you with a packet of notes for each section and it really is all you need to study. Hes passionate about what he does and is always happy to help. His exams are extremely tough and the HWs are long, but study daily and show up for class and you will do fine.
Professor Norris is a very hard professor. I had him Spring 2021 semester all online. His tests are based off of the notes he gives, but his notes are very hard to understand and interpret. There is a lot of run on sentences and you have to really work through them to understand. His test are VERY hard. Not the best professor in my opinion.
Prof Norris was a ok teacher. His exams were his lecture Notes but this notes were hard to read. I would recommend taking his notes and organizing it yourself. When I figure out by doing that I actually made really good grades on his exams. But his exams are hard! And his matching was difficult. He has 4 exams, 4 hw, 2 lab reports, 4 Lab exams.
He says attendance isnt mandatory but it is hes lying lol- tests feel impossible his notes are extremely hard and you need To make your own notes.
The guy is knowledgeable on his subject, very dedicated to help students with hws and lessons. His notes are confusing; however, if you rewatch lecture recordings, you WILL understand everything. "put in the work, put in the hour" is definitely how I achieve a solid grade for the course. Dont give up, just keep on trying to get through the class :)
Do not take him. His notes are over the place and he gives no reviews for his test. There are homework packets for every unit that have nothing to do with the test. Lecture heavy and attendance is mandatory.
He made it clear that he did not want to be online! Lecture was very dense, boring, and hard to pay attention to. Lab was a waste of time! "this is what you would be doing if we were in person" Tests come directly from the notes so if you memorize the notes you'll get an A. Test questions are worded poorly, so read carefully.
Not very enthusiastic or motivating. Teaching style is bland and his notes were unclear at times (provides you with notes already filled out). It was really just him reading off a ppt. and not relating personal experiences or providing real-life examples. I give it to him for knowing the material well, but I would rather take a different prof.
Study study study! Live in the Study lab. Become friends with the models its the only way to pass
Professor Norris was always willing to help, he really wants his students to succeed. Questions I had outside of class he was quick to help over email. Lectures were engaging, labs seemed intimidating but his demonstrations helped. He provides extra credit and homework that are helpful for exams.
Overall a good professor. His lectures are extensive to say the least and even then don't go into much detail where I felt was needed to really retain and understand the material in certain units. Although I did take as an 8 week summer course, which inevitably, is going to condense everything. All exams are based off the note packets he provides.
Prof. Norris was ok when I took him last Fall. He was very monotone throughout lectures, and it made me feel like I wanted to fall asleep. The exams were pretty difficult, and I'm glad I had a study group that helped continue to motivate me. Without them, I easily would've made a C or worse in this course. I don't recommend taking him at all.
4 lecture tests 4 lab practicals. 1 homework packet and 1 extra credit packet per unit. Grades homework and extra credit, they are not simply completion grades. Gives about 25-30 page packets each unit for lecture and that is the study guide, he doesn't help narrow down what will be on the tests. Lab practicals were also very difficult. Hard class.
If you're not a fan of studying for literal *days* before a test, I don't recommend Professor Norris. While he provides notes, the lectures are him restating what he's already given you. His lab practicals are set up in a difficult manner and can be about the most obscure thing you learned in the unit. Lecture tests are mostly multiple-choice.
HW is on paper & there's a 20+ pg paper note packet for each unit. He really knows Micro, but is not an engaging lecturer. Doesn't connect material to the big picture in labs - just goes straight into process which is confusing. Def cares about students & is responsive outside of class. You need to do the work & study a lot to do well.
It was a pleasure to take Professor Norris botany class, although it was a lot of information, I feel that he was very fair in grading and assigning extra credit. If youre thinking of taking this course with him i highly recommend!
One of the best Profs I have ever had. He gives out a dense note packet at the start of each unit, but he saves it with his lectures. If you show up (he counts attendance towards your grade), he breaks down the material and explains so it sticks. He also offers extra credit. The class was definitely hard, but not unrealistically so.
He was the best professor. I took his microbiology. What i love and appreciate about him is he has recorded lectures. He talks a lot during lectures and it might sound monotone. But you have to give your part and review his lectures on your own.
I recommend taking your own notes so information is committed to memory easier rather than relying on the note packet. His exams are straight foreword with minimal free response. He gives lots of extra credit and he tells you what he wants to see with the lab projects. He spaces out lecture and lab exams to make it easier for us. John's awesome.
He gives all the resources and information we need to do well. His recorded lectures, notes, & drawings are so helpful for visualizing the materialThey make it easier connect everything we're learning. He's willing to help and wants his students to do well. Don't be afraid to ask ?s,he makes sure you understand even if he has to explain it 3 times.
Although he was a nice guy, I wouldn't recommend his class due to his notes not being helpful. Be prepared to make your own on the side since there's no review given and he states to just memorize the lecture notes he provides for exams (which are about 25-30 pages). He is helpful in lab but his exams and lab practicals are difficult.
