awesome guy.....loves his coffee and beer..but has a genuine interest in Economics and is a great professor..highly advise taking him!
Great professor....he makes a very boring subject somewhat interesting. I highly recommend this professor.
Boooring! Most classes feel completely useless, class material is exactly out of the book, he doesn't even bother making it interesting. The only good thing is that his tests are just like the problem sets. I would never take another class of his.
Really tries to help students do well. Very approachable and is willing to make sure you understand the material. Loves his jokes about illicit drugs.
Dr. Nunley is the man! If you're looking for an econ professor, take him. I dislike economics, but really enjoy the class itself. He makes it interesting and wants his students to pass. Always willing to help and has a good sense of humor. In sum - cool as a fan.
Good teacher. I really enjoyed this class. He is always willing to help and is very nice. I highly recommend taking Dr. Nunley.
Avoid like the plague. I had Nunely for ECO 308. He had taken an already hard class and made it impossible. He is a really good guy, but teaches from a set of notes and then drops you in the grease when it comes to working the problems. He will help you with questions the problems is you need to know where to start.
Difficult class. However, Dr. Nunley is very helpful and very approachable. This was his first time teaching the class, but he did a reasonably good job. I would take another class from him.
Great teacher...very down to earth...willing to help....i highly recommend him.
I hate economics, but Dr. Nunley made it not so bad. He has a good sense of humor and genuinely cares if you learn the material. Take him!
I've had Nunley for multiple classes and he's far and away the best professor I've had. He knows what he's talking about and he'll make sure his students do too.
Great teacher - knows econ can be boring, but tries hard to get you through it; funny! likes to talk about drugs, has a fun southern accent, pretty easy tests, questions come basically straight from the practice tests. He works hard to make sure you understand everything. Definitely recommend him!
Awesome teacher! Tests are always multiple choice and questions come from the practice tests. He'll always help you if you need it. I reccomend him for any econ class!!
I don't like economics, but I enjoyed Dr. Nunley's class. He makes it interesting by using fun examples. He is also very fair and easy to approach. I highly recommend him.
Professor Nunley is one of the BEST profs I've ever had! He is by far the most helpful person; if you need assistance outside of class, he is more than willing to do whatever he can to find a way to help you. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I highly recommend him. He is extremely helpful and wants everyone to do well. The grade is based off of only multiple choice tests, which is nice, and the final is optional if you are doing well in the class. He is an interesting guy.
I really enjoyed this class, with the exception of the relatively long homework assignments. The material can be very difficult at times, but Prof. Nunley does a good job of explaining. I highly recommend him for any class!
I felt he did a very good job at making sure students understand the material. He is more than willing to go over topics 2 or 3 or 4 times until you understand. Moves at a good rate. Very nice guy. Would definitely recommend.
You take a LOT of notes in this class. Then you get a few word problems, and then you get three-four tests. And the tests are HARD in my opinion. They're multiple choice, but many are trick questions. I felt like he thought we understood economic terms before the class, when we all knew nothing beforehand.
His course he gives points for attendance and tests ONLY. Slack off on the tests and you probably won't pass. Although, he does have this policy where the final is optional and will replace your lower test scores if you score higher than your lowest scores. But its CUMMULATIVE.. soo look out.
Prof. Nunley is a good teacher. He tries really hard to make sure everyone understands. The students who did bad in class didn't do any work. They try to pin it all on him, but it's their fault. If you are willing to work, take this teacher. He is fair and makes the class fun.
Mr. Nunley is a super nice guy. He doesn't use powerpoint during lecture but his notes are written clearly on the board and the graphs are very understandable. He offers practice sets to prepare for the exams. There are only 4 exams and they're not bad if you're willing to study hard the day before.
SUPER nice guy! Uses examples we can relate to like beer vs. computers. You have to be willing to study for the tests because your grade is just 4 exams and attendance. Optional final at the end and if the score you got on your final is higher than any of the scores you got on exams, your final score will be counted in it's place.
Prof. Nunley is a good teacher. He makes the class interesting by using interesting examples like illicit drugs and beer. He also knows alot about economics. I would recommend him to anyone.
I enjoyed this class. It's a bit dry and definitely technical but Prof Nunley did a good job of making the material as interesting as possible.
Read the chapter he assigns and then come into class. His lectures alone won't always be 100% clear, but he is GREAT at explaining and clarity if you have even minimal understanding of what he is talking about. I know the whole reading the book thing scares people. It scared me. However, the book is actually well written and even enjoyable!
John is the best professor in the econ department! He made a difficult subject like intermediate micro easy to digest!
Great professor! You can tell he really enjoys teaching economics and he is very helpful. He makes the subject very clear and uses current issues for examples to make class interesting. He answers questions though D2L making it very easy to get assignments done and questions answered quickly. I would highly recommend him.
John is a great prof. He is very knowledgable and it shows. He doesn't give homework besides online quizzes. His tests are hard, but if you read the chapters and follow along with his lectures you are guaranteed at least a B.
John is a great professor. Intermediate micro is tough. But if you go to class and work the problem sets , you should do fine in the course. He is also very nice and willing to help. Highly recommend.
John Nunley is one of my favorite professors! He is such a great guy. His teaching style is easy to follow and he is always willing to help. The tests can be a bit tough but if you read the book and follow along in class you shouldn't have a problem. If you get a chance TAKE HIM!
John is very knowledgeable in his field and not only conveys the material well, but also applies it to current events. He helped me greatly in understanding the topics in the class as well as what is going on in the world around me. He is down to earth and treats everyone with respect.; he's the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with.
John is at economics and teaches it well. He is easy to follow and relates it well to the present day. Although economics is tough for anyone to grasp so thats why I feel it is so tough not because John is a bad professor
Economics is a tough class and John does his best to teach it in a way that is interesting and understandable. Super nice guy who is very accommodating and helpful when you have questions. Makes himself available as much as possible for office hours to help you prepare for tests. I would recommend.
Great guy, very knowledgable and passionate about his field, and it shows. Usually relates subject to real world events when able. It was fun hearing his perspective on current events and was always willing to answer my questions about our government, the world, etc. If you have taken macro or have any experience with Calc, this will be an easy A.
Made economics at least somewhat digestible. Lectures were not boring, he has a southern accent so I least thought that was fun to listen to. I didn't do any of the reading, he goes over it in class in a way that's easier to understand and I like how he grades
John is a great professor who really wants to see his students succeed. Make sure you listen during lecture and you'll be just fine.
Great guy and a very good professor!
I took this class online in a 3 week course over the summer and glad I did. Dr. Nunley gave very good feedback so that we were prepared for tests and would get back to us with questions very quickly.
John is everything you want out of a tenured econ professor: doesn't care about grades but cares about learning. He helps so much with explaining concepts and gives plenty of examples through homework and exams. Has some difficult exams, so make sure you study up for them, but the rest of the grades are almost all 100%. A good class and professor
Does a great job of communicating the material and making his assignments a very close resemblance of the test material. Provides sufficient study materials and wants students to do well. Aside from the class itself, Dr. Nunley is just a great guy and enjoyable to speak with. He is well spoken and down to earth. Would definitely recommend.
This class was VERY hard and confusing, but John does his best to make it as understandable as possible. He was very accommodating with grades, he made some of the harder quizzes online so that we could use our notes. I definitely wouldn't take this class if you don't need to, but if you need it, take John! He's awesome and very helpful.
John gives you a very clear picture of what to expect on exams. Going to class helps a lot to grasp the material and sometimes he goes through the homework problems so you know step by step of how to do a problem. Reading the textbook isn't necessary as long as you go to class and do the homework. His research is really interesting too.
I disliked this class but I really liked John's teaching style. He's not overbearing and he tells you what you need to know.
hard exams but easy weekly quiz. reading the textbook really helps.
Professor Nunley is very knowledgeable and easy to listen to. He cracks jokes and shares examples that make his lectures enjoyable. His grading is very fair, and he does his best to help all students who seek assistance. I would gladly take another class that he teaches.
Best advice for this class is read the textbook before you take the corresponding quiz and before going into lecture. Its not an easy class, though John makes it easier. Three unit exams with an optional final. Test averages were around 65-70% (he curves them to high C's though). An A is definitely achievable.
John was a really great professor! What I especially liked is how he connect course concepts to current events and real life examples which helped me learn personally. I would definitely recommend reading before class and taking quizzes correspondingly. The exams were pretty difficult but he does curve the exams.
Has no interactions with his students. Totally left the class in the dark In his lectures he just rambles on and on, nothing has purpose. Everything he gives is on the Internet
This class was really hard with covid. I didnt learn anything from the lectures, and he requires many readings from the textbooks. However, the homework was based on completion so that was nice.
This class was challenging being all online. Lectures were hard to follow at times and even after reading the book I was often confused. Exams carry a lot of weight and are challenging. Homework was a completion grade and quizzes were retakable. He's a good professor, he just struggled with the online teaching and needs to improve there
Professor Nunley was amazing. He goes out of his way to help you out and wants you to succeed in his class. The material and tests were hard, but he gives you every opportunity to do well. I took this online at home and he was really understanding. Highly recommend.
I took this class in spring of 2021. Professor Nunley cares about his students, he genuinely wants his students to learn and understand the material. There are 3 exams, 10 assignments, and two quizzes each week. The grading aspect of this class was very nice, the final exam is optional. If you want to take the final to improve your grade you can.
Outlines the class clearly and very easy to pass. Can take quizzes as many times as you want and the final exam can replace all previous exam grades or you can opt out of taking it.
Professor Nunley is very passionate about his work. The quizzes are online and can be taken as many times as you want. Goes through a lot in class and sometimes it's hard to tell what relates to the topic and what does not. He also does not give out study guides/outlines to his exams.
Great teacher. Actually keeps his lectures interesting by adding in personal experiences and opinions. He is a good grader and usually curves the tests. As long as you do the work, you should have no problem in this class.
My class struggled as a whole with Nunley and received an average grade of 57% on our first exam. I think this is due to a lack of explanation in fundamentals. The concepts were explained well, but in unfamiliar terms. I think you would do well in this class if you have some prior knowledge. Homework was an easy 100, but try hard on quizzes.
Dr. Nunley is very caring. Every single class he lectures for the entire time which can be boring and confusing at times, but if you go in for office hours he is one of my favorite professors. His tests are curved which is very clutch because they can be very difficult.
Nunley was good. Had him for Micro and had 2 exams and final was optional. Quizzes online weekly that you can take unlimited times. Get a 100 for just turning it in. Can get quite boring with the lectures but the exams are really the only challenging part of the class. Would recommend, take if you can.
All lectures. Class is going to be hard but amazing teacher. He definitely tries to make class fun. 2 Online quizzes can take as many times as you want. They take a long time but its almost a guaranteed 100%. only 3 exams and final is optional. definitely take him.
I am not good an econ so this class was very hard for me. you have 2 quizzes and homework every week. He lectured the whole time and he tried to make them relatable but the content still didn't make sense.
If you don't know Econ this class may be hard. HW and quizzes make up 40% of your grade which should be an easy A. The other 60% is from three exams. The final is optional and will replace your lowest exam score. Exams are hard if you don't study, but he curves them. He also hosted special office hours to prepare for exams which was nice.
Lots of information to take in and know. But John does the best he can to explain it the best for his students. Uses real world examples and is just a great guy.
From the beginning, Professor Nunley clearly lined out a detailed schedule to allow for students to know when quizzes, homework, and tests were due. He always was willing to help me if I contacted him to meet outside of class time. He wants students to do well and is very knowledgeable.
Overall, he's a good professor. Only critique I have is his way of displaying notes in class. He uses printer paper so draw graphs, write definitions, etc. This is fine, until he pulls it off camera right away without many in the class being able to copy it down. Because he does this, none of this is online for later reference, which is irritating.
For my class in particular, he was gone for a long time during surgery. While this was not exactly the issue, I feel the online portion was not enough and he never really caught the class up. I feel he acts constantly disappointed in us, while we are all trying to do the best with the knowledge we do have.
He talks in a way that makes me want to listen, even though he very often gets lost in what he is saying and goes on tangents. Econ is hard but he makes it ok.
Dr. Nunley is a great professor who is very caring and wants you to do well. He puts a curve on every test. There is assigned homework most weeks with a quiz. If you pay attention and do some work outside of class you'll do well in his class.
I had john this fall semester and he was an amazing professor. Fair grading, fair quizzes and exams, and he curves every exam as well which is much appreciated. Commit to 1-3 hours outside of class a week (Depending on unit) for his class and you'll do incredibly well. Highly recommend! He's relatable and funny as well.
He is a great professor! Super funny and genuinely cares about his students. He obviously understands how difficult economics can be, and does a great job going through many different problems and questions. You'll get a good grade if you attend class and do all the homework/quizzes.
Holy cow, this dude is the GOAT. Such a caring professor, had multiple chats with him outside of class and he always was interested in what I had to say. Teaches class in a very engaging way with his written notes, highly knowledgable on Economics, and just a great dude. Plus, his Tennessee accent is awesome, and he curves basically every test.
Favorite professor that I have taken at UWL. Econ is a tough subject but he makes it extremely manageable. Mondays and Wednesdays are large group lectures and he breaks you into smaller groups for Fridays. Small group lectures clear everything up to end the week and are also graded. Exams are tough but you can pad your grade with other stuff.
He's great
Great guy. If you are confused about the coursework you definitely need to ask him outside of class to get clarity. He gives a great curve and has extra credit opportunities at the end of the semester. Be sure to ask lots of questions to him if ur confused.
I loved having him as a professor. There were quizzes every week, and homework too, but he goes over the homework in class. Total of 4 exams, he does apply a curve though, so that is nice. Pretty good overall.
John Nunley is a nice guy. He was having some medical problems during the year, as well as having some sick kids, so I cut him some slack on being a bit disorganized. It's pretty easy to get a good/passing grade if you show up to class and lab. He's nice, but I don't really feel like I learned anything. Overall, easier than Macro with Murray.
I loved Professor Nunley this semester, he is amazing! If you are taking Eco110, look for Professor Nunley!
Professor Nunley is a super chill professor. Lectures could be a bit confusing and fast paced at times, but he more than made up for it by taking us through the homework problems and practice exams, which were very similar to the actual exams. He clearly cares about the wellness of his students and is a fun guy to talk to.
The professor moves through notes too quickly, making it hard to keep up with writing and listening. He gave out assignment answers, so I didn't really learn the material. The practice exams didn't match the actual exams, and he often made mathematical errors during example problems, adding to the confusion.
the most confusing lecture at UWL. Don't take classes with him if you can. Some say he's chill. I'd say, he doesn't care. I pay tuition to learn something. If I am supposed to read everything by myself what is the point of college?
I enjoyed having John as my instructor in eco 110. He is super nice and caring. It's difficult to understand everything in lecture, but the Friday classes help clarify the lecture material. Going to office hours was the most helpful. Highly recommend!
Very knowledgeable but tends to go on tangents. Super understanding. He was out a lot this semester, making it hard to learn material, but he gave 100s on homework assignments for days he was gone, which was helpful.
John is one of the smartest professors I have had. He's also very personable and reasonable with course expectations. His exams are tough but he gives ample review material and practice problems/exams. He is super caring and always willing to do everything he can to help you understand a concept.
Caring? Pff... WOAT He acts like he cares, but it's all fake. This is a joke class, and he's the worst professor I've had.
Good class and good teacher....helped me a ton during office hours. He's nice too. Take him!
Very nice guy, and he is very helpful during office hours. Goes a little fast in class sometimes, but overall good teacher.
Great profesor cares about the students makes everything manageable does not throw curveballs at you just a great dude. makes it easy to pass.
