THIS IS THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER TAKEN. HE GETS VERY INVOLVED AND RELATES TO STUDENTS VERY WELL. HIS CLASSES ARE INTERESTING ALTHOUGH YOU DO HAVE TO DO THE WORK, WHICH IS NOT TOO MUCH. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO EVERYONE THAT WANTS A REALLY COOL TEACHER

He is a very cool teacher. The work is fun, the class is fun, the teacher is fun, the overall course is fun.

A very helpful and kind professor. He makes psychology interesting and it's a fairly easy class (as long as you put in some effort). He also teaches World Religions (REL2300) and Philosophy, I definately recommend him for any of the three.

I have taken two courses from him and he is an amazingly adept instructor. His lectures are NEVER boring and the work is just challenging enough without being too tedious. He is the best instructor I have yet at the undergrad level.

An expert at every course he teaches.

John is absolutly the greatest teacher. You find yourself very excited to go to his class. He keeps you very intrested in all his discussions. But he does make you express every night what one thing stuck out in that class, it does get easier. The final is difficult, so read the book during class.

Before taking this class I did not have a big interest in religion( I only took it because it was the only thing available)It was pretty fun. He had an open mind, and he has a great sarcastic sense of humor.

John is a great teacher. If you prepare for tests you will do fine. He is very comprehensive and enjoyable. I have taken him for 2 classes and would take him for others if they were offered.

I've had him for other classes, and he was awesome. He was awesome in this class too, but it's not a sociology class, it's a gossip session about relationships, sex, children, divorce...he guarantees someone will break up by the end of the class, and they do. It's enlightening, but not academic. Take him for anything else though!

TAKE HIM! Learn 10 religions, get to chose the five you want to write papers on. Papers are just questions you have to answer (2-3 pgs). Take home final where you answere six of the 12 questions and write a few paragraphs on each. EASY A!

I took him for two classes and going back for a third. Great teacher makes everything fun and easy to understand. Took him for relgion also great with not making any one relgion look better than another.

Great class! Anyone who dates, in a relationship,or married should take it! Class was very easy and no book, but you'll learn more form this class than any other class you can take. Only an 8 page research paper due at the end.

John is one of the best professors I have ever had! He should pick up a night job as a stand-up comedian! If you need to take Psychology, take him, you wont regret it! I will say this though, his ties are absolutely horrifying!

This class was so fun. You learn alot about yourself from his personality tests. There is a 8 page research paper that is due at the end of the semester, make sure you pay attention to the format that he wants you to use to write the paper. it's not hard, but if you don't write the paper, you will fail. class has breaks every 45 minutes.

Dr. John has made me take a good look at myself in this class. He also tells you EXACTLY what to study for. Do EXACTLY as he says & you will do fine. AND he keeps your attention the entire 4 hours. Oh, I agree, the ties are rather hideous!!

I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Dr John. First day of class he said, "I'm Dr Oliver but you may call me John." A doc that doesn't MAKE you call him doc says a lot about his character. He makes the material interesting. The class is so fun you'd hardly know it's a class. There are 5 papers,just don't get behind. All teachers should be like him.

I loved this class! There's no way not to get an A in this class. He teaches from his notes but ref the book. Just before the test he tells u what to study. There r only 4 test w/2 short papers about U! Don't miss a class and u won't have a prb but he keeps it interesting so u won't want to miss. Plenty breaks & def. get early release!

Good professor that is not biased to one religion or another. Likes very thorough papers. When taking your exam, make sure your answers are sufficient, like a few paragraphs, he likes plenty of detail.

I just took his human growth and development class. I loved it!! He is a wonderful teacher, keeps his class very interesting. I've never laughed so much in any class. I'm signing up with him for at least 2 more classes!! You'll love him!!

I took him for Family in the Marriage and I have never loved a class so much, I recommend that class to everyone. Showing up in class is part of your grade but there was no textbook or final. Only one paper and that was your grade.

I loved this class. I looked forward to going everyday. There is never a dull moment and you learn A LOT about yourself (and others) that you probably didn't know. Honestly I wish the class would last longer than it does. Fun, exciting, and No book, I'm absolutely positive you would enjoy! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Dr. Oliver is awesome! He teaches very well and there is not much work to do other than a few essays. Only one large assignment, which is a take-home exam in essay format. LOVE his ties! He's very funny and teaches a lot.

By far my favorite professor in my college career. He was so smart and loved to share his knowledge. He has great stories. He wears a different cartoon tie every class! The essays were time consuming but if you took good note they were not hard to complete. 5 essays all semester and a big take home exam. Everyone should take him at least once!

I took professor Oliver for Introduction to Religion. He was captivating with his knowledge, answered all questions and as long as you do the work, you will do well. Awesome professor!!!

He is the best professor ever - PERIOD! Taking his class makes me want to minor in Religious Studies now. There are only 5 papers due the entire semester + 1 take home exam. If you want to walk away knowing way more and enjoying the learning process about religion - take Dr. John!

Dr. Oliver is a theologian of many religions. I think so he changed my life towards greatness!!! The courses he teaches are priceless.

Dr. Oliver is a wonderful professor. He is very knowledgeable in what he does and he clarifies any misconceptions that you'd have in class. Dr. Oliver also incorporates different subjects into his class, which I found nice. I took his REL2000 class. It wasn't too hard. A few essays, and a final take home test.

dr oliver is the best teacher i have taken at deerwood, he is amazing, if you need to study religion this man knows his stuff. bring a camera everyday to class cuz he loves his crazy ties. textbook is only used for papers. 5 papers 1 take home test. come to class everyday he adds 5 points

Best professor I have ever had. I took a 3 hour long class early in the morning and he made it go by so quickly. The only things graded are papers, but he gives you a lot to choose from. He is also completely unbiased to any religion. Also, he gives a few extra credit opportunities. I 100% recommend taking his classes

It's true that this professor is very eloquent, and he does make the class go by fast. He's a very good professor and knows exactly what he is talking about. My only problem is the way the papers are graded. they are out of 10 points each, leaving little room for in depth grading. Each point is really like 10 points.

This class was amazing! Def a must take class! the class was 3 hours and and it went by so quick. its such an interesting class and Dr Oliver knows his stuff. He answers all questions and is very helpful. you write 5 papers but he gives you plenty to choose from and they are really easy. one take home exam for final. great class!

I took this class online. He was very clear about what needed to be done, and was understanding. Overall, this was a good class.

This is a very text book intensive class. Currently taking it online and it does require you to actually read the text book. All 3 of the tests come from the quizzes and be prepared to participate in discussion boards. Great class to take as a "filler" class. Definitely take this class if you have the opportunity to do so. It's rather interesting.

He loves what he teaches, and caters to those that are listening and learning. Tests are tough. You have to hear all of the lectures, take notes, read the entire chapter and study... but you can still get an A. He's passionate and positive. Answers questions willingly. Would highly recommend him. I do wish I had just rented the book though.

Professor Oliver is a wonderful professor. He knows his stuff, and he has a passion for religion. There are six papers, all three pages long, 12 font, double spaced. You get to choose the religions you write about. Textbook is needed. The final is easy, but it is a long paper that needs to be detailed. Quality teaching and hilarious! TAKE HIM.

There are A LOT of assignments given however, I got through it within 3 days of it being assigned. It's so easy. There is 1 long paper due & 2 big exams. My only complaint is that half a semesters work magically disappeared & I ended up with a "C". As far a I am concerned, with any online class, screenshot all of your work before/after submitting!!

He is a very good professor. I absolutely loved the class. His lectures were long, but it was a 2 and a half hour class with a break. He keeps the lectures interesting. Very clear and you have to show up for class to get the notes. He doesn't post much online. He has 6 papers due, 3 paged long and double spaced. Very easy to write on. Loved it.

I wouldn't take him again for an online class. He doesn't teach it, he only makes you read. Not like other online classes. Read a chapter, take a test, and a discussion every week. Simple, but not the easiest read. Can seem snobby at times when it comes to responding to emails. Very helpful though if you have questions!

I have had Dr. Oliver for many courses. From World Religions to Human Sexuality, he'll never give you a biased opinion without giving you a well rounded display of information. Don't take him online!!!! The best part is being in class and hearing the stories.
