he has a god complex, makes people feel dumb when they cant figure out his example problems, and instead of actually teaching he does example problems the whole class period.
Let me be entirely honest here. If you are a lazy student who thinks a professor will hand feed you test questions then you need a wake up call to begin with. Dr Osegovic is very well informed in the course he teaches apart from his minor mathematical computations. Sarcastic as he is you'll learn more here than trying to figure it out later on.
I would not recommend this professor. The textbook for this class had to be bought new for the online access code for homework (OWL), which he later announced we will not be using. When you need help, he assigns you a completely different problem instead of helping you and expects you to know how to do it. Fast pace, unfair, waste of money.
Alright, I'm 25 and a bit more serious than most about my education this time. IF YOU KEEP UP WITH OWL YOU ARE FORCED TO LEARN EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO GET AN A. There were no gimmicks throughout the CHM2045 course and I earned a 100 on the final. Show up to class, especially on exam days and the next class he gives bonus points just for showing up.
Dr. Osegovic is a knowledgable man. He is very helpful and is always available for office hours or study over lunch. I never understood chemistry in high school, but with study over lunch, I was able to master the concepts. Got an A+ in the course. Take him to really learn and solidify concepts in chemistry! Also, extra credits!
He assigns a lot of homework problems so don't slack. His tests are pretty tough and never tells you what will be on the test. He's always available to help you but dont bother going to him if you dont have specific questions. Be prepared to work really hard. The final exam is the ACS, dont fail it. I had B in the class and my grade dropped to a D.
He comes off pompous and sarcastic but if you go to his office hours and try in the class you'll succeed he will not give you the A you have to work for it. I went to his office and study over lunch weekly and still received a C in his class. ACS is tough so study its no joke. Be prepared to put a lot of time and effort into this course. DONT CHEAT
If you have to take chemistry, avoid him at all costs! His lectures barely cover anything that you are expected to know for the exam, also he doesn't tell you anything about what is going to be on the exam. His exams are unbelievably difficult for no reason and he doesn't curve it. You're better off taking it later with a different professor.
The tests are hard and looks very different to what you learn in class even if you study a lot. The study guides are useless. IF you don't remember things from Chem 1, then you will have a very difficult time.
Chemistry is a more difficult class for some. Dr O will not hand you a passing grade. He will provide you with all the tools to succeed if you are willing to put in the effort. His sense of humor makes class fun. Very intelligent and respectable. I plan on taking as many chemistry classes as possible with Dr. O.
Quite surprised reading his reviews here. Dr.O knows what he is talking about, and is always opening his office hours to anyone who needs help! However, he does make you work for your grades -- which is great, because if you are planning to take standardized exams in the future, you will be prepared for them. Get the textbook for chem 2
Dr. Osegovic is a great professor. He is very passionate about chemistry and brings additional interesting information to his lectures. He encourages students to attend his office hours and is always there to help. He is very kind, only appearing to be annoyed when people ask redundant questions, e.g. a topic that is clearly stated in the syllabus.
Homework is long and tedious but if you do it, you'll pass the tests no problem. Really fair on grading tests (for example, there may be 22 questions but he'll grade as though there are only 20; so you can get 100% while still missing two questions) Final exam is standardized, so it's graded according to class average (a couple of students got 100%
Of course chemistry isn't easy and you need to prioritize. However, I didn't feel like Dr. O tried to help his students.
Dr. Osegovic, in my opinion, is the best general Chemistry professor at this school. There is a lot of homework, but if you do it, you will do well on the tests. You will not be handed your A, but when you WORK for it, youll leave the class with a very strong grasp of all concepts of general chemistry. I wish I could take him for Orgo 1 and 2
Dr. O is very knowledgeable but his homework assignments are SUPER long (8-10 hours for some assignments) and his tests may or may not correlate with the homework. I wish he provided better notes! Overall, he's an okay professor, but don't expect an easy A if you take his class.
By far one of the best professors I have taken in my college career. Explanations clear, expectations are clear as well. You have to work for it, he loves the subject and it shows. It's my favorite class so far.
Dr. O knows his stuff that is a certainty. He discusses his lectures in a way that is accommodating and comprehensive. He's cares about his students but makes you work for the grade (college after all.) If you have a question or need assistance, don't think twice. Tests are a challenge but he go over it after.
Dr. O is one of my favorite professors ever. His lectures are fun and he tries his hardest to make sure everyone is on the same page before continuing the notes. Lots of homework and hard tests so don't expect an easy A. He makes chemistry easy to understand. He is full of knowledge and willing to help if you see him during office hours.
Dr. O is a good chemistry teacher, compared to other classes the owl homework assignments are more, however, doing all the homework will give you an A. So far he has been kind enough to give three extra questions after our two tests to add to our test for extra credit.
He uses language that makes the material harder than it has to be. He gives a lot of homework but it is very useful. I did not learn anything in his lectures but I learned a lot from using OWL for my homework. Almost everyone fails the tests so there is always a curve. He's really nice, go to his office hours
You could actually miss class because he doesn't teach. His lectures consist of stories relative to his life/career and when he finally goes back to the topic of chemistry he explains absolutely nothing. Students will fail the exams unless they seek outside help. I want to cry bc of how bad he is. I wish I didn't have him as a professor :(
He gives pre-chapter assessments (quizzes). You have to read the chapter before coming to class. All the tests are based off the homework. You will spend a lot of time on homework.
Really wish they had a better option for chem professors since bio is such a popular degree here. Your grade depends on how you do on the tests. Homework helps but not until the grade is put in at the end of the semester.
Worse professor ever. He doesnt teach. He makes you feel stupid. No extra credit. Very hard exams, your grade depends on exams 1-2-3 and final. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Very knowledgeable, loves to help students during office hours, but his lectures were very boring. He has a difficult subject so it is hard to make it interesting.
Dr. O is a science guy. He is not lenient and not personable. When the hurricane hit and every student in the class began to fail, he recommended we all drop the class. If everyone is failing, you are doing something wrong.
This man is by far the most precocious and egotistical man I have ever known in my career as a student. Ever since Hurricane Irma, the man has done next to nothing to help students get back on track with the occasional reprieve from the homework by extending it a few days. Worst yet his lectures in no way prepare us for our exams. An awful teacher
Professor O is very cold when it comes to students struggling. I can count at least a half dozen times his response to students struggling is to just drop the class or quit science altogether. Not very inspirational.. He gives an assignment a walks around the class. If you stop him and ask for help, he will tell you to read the chapter.
Dr. O is very good at teaching theory and concept but he doesn't teach much in regards to formula and technical aspects to chemistry. I asked for help a number of times but I was simply assured that everything I would need was in the book or the lecture. I don't like fumbling in the dark to get answers, his lectures do NOT prepare you for exams.
Dr. O may be great with science, but I do not believe he did everything in his power to help his students succeed. Considering hurricane Irma, he could have gave us extensions on homework but told us to drop the class if Hurricane Irma has affected you in a way where you cannot handle the material any longer. This is not acceptable by any means.
Classes in the beginning of the semester consisted of his talking and going off on unrelated tangents we werent supposed to see till chem 2 or higher level classes and the second half consisted of giving us handouts and milling about the room while we taught ourselves. He did nothing to prepare us for exams and we were in the dark the whole time.
He does not teach at all. All his lectures are irrelevent to the quizzes. A lot go homework is assigned and barely preps you for the quizzes. There is a quiz every Friday morning and it makes or breaks your grade. I wouldn't recommend taking this class with him.
He explains the material in a much more difficult and confusing way than the book does. He is very arrogant therefore rude. Students do not ask questions because he avoids the answer and instead makes them feel stupid. Too much homework due before tests so you have to sacrifice studying or hw. I passed because I completely taught myself!
I've received an 89.9 in this class and he refuses to round it up. Also, he talks as if he's smarter than anyone else in the room. Nonetheless, he is very fair and gives a lot of chances to receive extra credit! There are lots of homework assigned to do on OWL. You definitely have to work for an A.
Great professor! Utilize office hours, tutoring, and his help sessions to succeed. Cares that you know the material more than he does about passing the exams. Offers extra credit questions after exams. Homework boosts your grade. This class requires patience, time, and effort. He will help you but you need to work for your grade. This is college.
This man made me switch my major. Terrible. Does not explain anything. Straight A student and I got an F in his class. There is no roundup for grading and a C is not a 70, it's a 73. Don't do it.
Don't take this professor.....
If you're contemplating taking this professor go on campus and ask around, I guarantee no one will advise you to take him. I saw smart academically inclined students FAIL & have to retake it. Does he actually teach? The answer is a big NO. Does he speak for an hour about actual nothing, and roam the room waiting to intimidate students? YES!!!!
This is chem 1, aka one of the easiest classes a hopeful pre med could take. But, Dr. O could make you switch your whole outlook. I saw so many students enter this class as an optimistic pre med and subsequently decide to not pursue a science major. This was not just 1 or 2 students, this was half the class. An A in chem 1 is easy, but not with O.
Although Professor Osegovic seems to be very intimidating, he is not really that bad. Just listen to what he wants and that is what you need to turn in. Though some lectures feel extremely long and very difficult, he never fails to make the class laugh. He is extremely knowledgable on everything he lectures on. Just, read the book and go to class.
Tons of OWL homework added with his terrible teaching is a nightmare. Tests are difficult and the average for them is usually failing because he doesn't give enough time. He cares more about telling you how smart he is than really helping you understand the material. Don't bother asking questions, you will get rude replies filled with arrogance.
He seems a little tough at first but he is a very knowledgeable teacher. He is very clear about what he expects from all assignments, and although there is a lot of OWL homework, it really does help to practice the material. He is very passionate about chemistry and explains the material very well so it is easy to understand.
he was a great teacher and really cared about this subject! he cared about his students and their grades a great deal too, but he also very much wanted you to work for your grade and actually learn which is great. but at the end of the day it's chemistry, so even though he was a pretty good professor the class is HARD. GO TO CLASS.
Pretty good professor overall. You need to go to class and read the textbook and do the homework to be successful. He gives you 2 free questions on each test which really helps your grade. I would take him again.
Worst professor of my life. Ruined my A/B reputation. Teaches his lectures like you already know the information. Don't do it... take this course at your local community college.
If you don't teach yourself you will not pass. I had to take an full online course to teach myself while being enrolled in his class and going to tutoring. He expects you to read and learn the material on your own. He is smart but unable to explain the material. I got a C in his class and it was the second C on my transcript.
Lemme tell all you newbies this; Chemistry is by no means a difficult subject if you have the motivation and perseverance to learn and apply the information. However, Dr. Osegovic does an excellent job of making the class impossible by NOT teaching the material. Also, he was apparently asked to leave USF Tampa, so what does that tell you?
So, as you can see, many people do not like this professor. From my prospective of taking him, here is why he is overall just NOT a good professor: 1. he has absolutely NO communication or interpersonal skills 2. he hates being wrong (aka, hates being told the truth) 3. this man is the epitome of a cancer cell going into stage three that wont stop
Dr. O is the absolute worst professor I have ever had! His class average is and F and the highest scores on tests are D's. He does not teach or explain. He does not care about his students success and when you ask him a question he will not answer it and make you feel stupid. Passing his class requires 25/8 work. Your GPA will suffer! DO NOT DO IT
I took Dr.O for both Chem 1 and 2. he knows his stuff, always available during his office hour and is willing to go over missed questions on the PCA, also has reviewe a week in advance and now he's doing 2 weeks in advance. if you expect to get an A or B from just coming to class and taking the notes it's not going to happen. Put in the work!
You will spend hours of your time doing homework and studying for tests just to get a failing grade. I have spent this semester studying for this class upwards of 20 hours a week and I am still trying to raise my grade from an F. He refuses to tell you what are on his tests. If you want to keep your 4.0, it's not going to happen. Tests are online.
He gives a lot of homework, but they really help with his exams. His lectures are good, he's kind of sarcastic which makes them fun. Then he's always available outside of class to help students, which is nice.
Okay so if you're stuck with this professor here's a few things you should know. He has a different style of teaching and can make you feel overwhelmed, stressed, and unprepared. No matter how much you prepare for lab: writing procedure, wearing appropriate lab dress code, perfecting the post labs.. He'll find something and comment on it.
Lab was okay but his teaching style is not for everyone because it can get frustrating.. I still got an A so its all good
I think Dr. O is a great COLLEGE professor. You do have to work for your grade, but that should be expected. He finds easy ways to explain material and is willing to help during office hours or review sessions.
The class is pretty difficult, mainly because of the large amount of homework, but if you put in the work and do the homework before class, his lectures will definitely solidify the ideas. Also, he gives many assignments, so if you study hard, you have a good opportunity to get a good grade.
I am a straight A and A- student through my years at college. I took Dr O over the summer semester and was disappointed. At midsemester he was proud of our class because our average grade was a 72. I had an 81 and then he randomly gave us points so I ended with a 92 He gives enough points to pass, but I did not learn one thing about basic chemistry
If you enjoy torturing yourself for just a C , you should take this class. The amount of homework is impossible to complete when you are taking multiple classes. The teaching is poor. The lecture, homework, and exams have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I advise you to not take this class. I have never felt so discouraged in my life.
He seems like a nice guy but it can be deceiving. I don't enjoy asking him questions because he won't actually answer your question and also belittles students. Lectures can be confusing and sometimes he goes on a rampage about things that seem irrelevant to chemistry.
I love chemistry but this class is a waste of time and money. He uses ALEKS and its time consuming. ALEKS has to be the stupidest idea ever! He made me feel like I was dumb. I tried asking questions and hes not answering the question in a certain way. Its hard to explain. Hes horrible. He doesnt teach. The textbook is online and doesnt help.
Dr. O is the college professor our high school teachers warned us about. He is very adament about self-learning and peer-based study with guidance rather than forcing information down our throats and lecturing excessively. ALEKS homework was rough but it was very fogiving. Lots of Extra credit. Only online quizzes and no exams. Optional final exam.
This class doesn't have a final, or mid term. Instead the class has a quiz each week. These quizzes are worth a lot since it's the only testing portion of the course. He doesn't lecture very well. If you are good at teaching yourself, this will be an easy class for you. If not you will struggle. Overall this professor was tough, and not recommended
I only recommend Dr. O if you have taken AP or IB chemistry already. If the only chemistry class you took in high school was regular chemistry, Dr. O's class and teaching style will be too much for you. That being said, I took AP and IB chemistry in high school and chose to retake CHM2045 as review, and I received an A+ in the class.
Dr O is the most incredible professor I have ever taken. He cares so much about student success and does everything in his power (Extra credit, moving due dates, reopening quizzes) to benefit his students. During COVID he was available 24/7 answering any questions we had. Don't get me wrong, the class is difficult, but he is definitely worth taking
I had Dr. O for chem 1 and 2. He is a great professor who cares about his students and wants to help students to succeed. He gives opportunities for extra credit. If you keep up with the work and put in the time needed you should get an A or B. Don't let other reviews worry you, as long as you come into class with a good attitude you'll be fine.
Dr. O is a really good professor, if you are good with chemistry on your own. I personally am not the best with the subject, but I did my studying and made myself learn the material on my own after lectures. His lectures are decent, but the hw portion of this class is extremely difficult. He uses ALEKS for hw and it is the most time consuming thing
Dr. O is a solid choice for chem. He will make you work for your grade but as long as you put in the time and effort there's no reason to do bad. He always makes sure to give extra credit (while never specifically admitting to giving extra credit). No tests, only quizzes and they're all online.
Took Dr. O for Chem 1 and 2. He understands the material, and he tries his best to make the class interesting. That being said, I did not particularly like the way he interacted with students. In Chem 1, he literally got into an argument with a kid. I do not recommend Dr. O to students that come into class with no prior knowledge of chemistry.
We have to buy the HW software called ALEKs, and it is quite time-consuming, and not useful. The textbook is free online. Dr.O is funny and really knows chemistry. He wont teach you much though, you have to read the materials and find your own practice homework. Meetings on Teams are only for questions. Quiz every week, and he gives extra creds
Do not take this class at all costs!! He uses a website called ALEKS for his homework assignments which will take hours of your time and provides no help on his quizzes. If you enjoy putting all your effort every week into maintaining a C then this is the class for you. Worst class I have ever taken!!
The professor is one of the nicest I've ever had before. He is super understanding and is always available for extra help. I despised ALEKS, the homework software. I would spend hours working on a section and get no credit. It takes away your progress if you get a question wrong. This class was so much work. If you're ok at chem you'll be fine.
Gives us a lot of homework-but it's all really helpful to getting a good grade. He will always extend a due date if you need. He doesn't lecture in class-more of a question and answer session. Tests almost every week make it easier to succeed since you are only tested on one chapter at a time. Class gets MUCH easier after like the 3rd week.
I thought he was awesome and adequately prepared me for the course. The homework sucks, but it does help in the long run. The attitude of the professor is awesome. Even the online lectures (short video assignments) that are pre recorded are interesting and funny. My success was largely off of the practice test and quizzes
Never take with this professor he is very rude and he doesn't like when you ask any questions. Someone in my lab had a panic attack while doing an experiment. This was the worst experience and was very stressful semester.
The lectures in this class were so unnecessary that attendance is only required because of the insane and unending group projects. Most of the material you will learn through Aleks(which is straight up torture) and video quizzes, in addition to the textbook. I would not recommend this instructor for a new student like I was, but was overall just ok
We use a program called ALEKS which can be helpful, but then the concept quiz questions don't even pertain to the work we are learning on there. The program is time consuming especially since you have not been taught the information. Chapter 12 ALEKS will be due, while he is lecturing chapter 11, then the chapter 10 concept quiz is due that week.
I'm surprised by those other low ratings. I wouldn't have succeeded in Chemistry if it weren't for Dr. Osegovic. He breaks the material down in a way that makes sense and has a funny sense of humor at the same time. He's really great.
I took both chem teachers & I learn better with Dr. O's teaching style. I like his powerpoints and you can always go back to it and see each problem step by step. Lots of group projects, ALEKS is not helpful but helps your grade. The concept quizzes don't match the practice ones, and I did bad on a lot of them. Do the work = get an A.
Dr. O is caring and really takes the time to teach the material. He provides a lot of work, so that you can understand a topic. I would definitely recommend taking him.
Took for Lab. Dr. O comes off very nice, but during lab he is extremely condescending and rude. Doesn't give clear instructions for some lab reports. DO NOT BOTHER asking questions during lab - he'll ramble on and never answer your question. Wastes 30 minutes during each lab talking about irrelevant stuff. I got an A, but dreaded lab every week.
NOOOOOO DON'T DO IT. IT'S NOT SLAY. PLEASE SAVE YOURSELF. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. I'M SO EMO, PLEASE HE'S NOT BABYGIRL AT ALL!! There's so many assignments and ALEKS is so hard and it takes forever. If you're not good at chemistry and want to be happy don't take this class. :(
Really did not enjoy taking this class. A ton of busy work and learning on my own. Taught with quizzes and rarely did examples of problems. ALEKS was an absolute nightmare and often wasn't helpful in learning source material. The professor was overall was reluctant to answer questions. I found myself confused 90% of the time.
This professr is more considerate compared to other professors. ALEKs homework will take hours each week and is way more difficult than his quizzes. The quizzes are basically your grade, not too bad but need to do well on them. Group projects in class are to introduce you to the material so know how to do those for the quizzes. Textbook was helpful
Dr. O has genuinely been one of the best and caring professors I have ever had. Chem2 is not an easy class and no one should go into the class expecting something simple. Dr. O teaches the class in a way for you to actually learn the material, it is by no means easy but it is not unimaginably cruel like how a lot of the other reviews will say.
Not a fun or interesting class
Do not take his class if you want to learn chem. He does not give lectures, not very helpful, uses teams for communication, and a waste of a drive if you commute. Even if you only want the class for a grade and already know chem do not take him. So much busy work, ALEKS. Quizzes are easy if you learn chem from someone else or use youtube.
This professor will make you feel like you're not as smart as you actually are. He's that bad. I am a solid A/B student and I'm struggling to get even a C because he expects you to devote all of your time to chemistry. Good luck taking him if you have any other classes, let alone a job. He doesn't give enough time for his tests either.
very rude & condescending. By the end of the semester, my whole lab table (10 ppl) are coming together and taking turns to ask him questions because he evades answering & is rude. The lab manual (he wrote!) is riddled with errors. Still possible to get an A, just a terrible learning environment. I'd rather commute to Tampa than take him again
If you want to take this class to get an easy A, then take it, but beware of the rude and snarky comments. You can be the nicest student and he will still have something to say to you. Don't let him catch you doing something like having a water bottle or a phone out(even if you're not on it) unless you want to get called out and dragged for 10 min.
