GREAT TEACHER! MAKES CLASS FUN! TESTS ARE KINDA DIFFICULT BUT HE IS A GOOD TEACHER.
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! (What's he doing at Kennesaw?) He is one of the smartest people I've ever encountered, and really a great guy; very helpful and never acts as if there's a "dumb" question.
this man knows his stuff. A very impressive teacher!! Can speak fluent Russian. Has a dry sense of humor, and is hardcore into politics, so he keeps it interesting. YOu brain will be bigger after his class.
Most interesting class I have ever had. Dr. Moran was also my advisor. He is the best professor in the department and he really cares. He loves his work and it shows in everything he does. Take ALL his classes!
this class is great! he is really smart and wants to inform you! completely unbiased teaching!! tests are difficult, lots of study time, but worth it!! he is just great!
I have had this guy for three classes and he is an excellent lecturn, but don't expect him to return e-mails and be sure you read the syllbus, he is UNFORGIVING about attending class. My only complaint is that he can be negative toward POLS and favors IA. Be prepared to write a massive term paper and his MC test are like trivia questions.
His teaching is wonderful and he def. knows what he is talking about. However, the tests are EXTREMELY difficult. I am not a slacker saying this, I am an "A" student and I had to study more for this class than ever before. Tests off the notes he gives AND very detailed things from the book. I love this class but its tough!
a little boring but easy going.
Skills as well as personality are above reproach. His knowledge is great and demeanor is humble. I would take any of Dr. Moran's classes.
Excellant communication skills. Makes the class very interesting. Wealth of knowledge
Amazing teacher. Be sure to read the text book though. Puts all lectures on internet, and STOMPS main ideas into your head. Hands down, best teacher I have ever had. Be sure to attend class though!
Go to class and you will be perfectly fine! Many test questions are from the lectures and he will basically tell you what is on the test while he lectures. If a test question is answered incorrectly by a majority of the class he will throw it out and give you the points. Good policy!
Great teacher---makes a boring subject interesting. Throws out questions that the majority of the class gets wrong.
democracy from a global perspective. i found the class difficult. the tests were multiple choice and came from the novel, democracy in america. written by a frenchmen in early 1900, very difficult to understand. REQUIRES LOTS OF READING.
Very interesting classes, all from power points, backed up with videos. Very helpfull too!
GREAT teacher! Makes a normally boring subject fun and easy to learn. Book was HARD to read as it was written by a French dude a long time ago and its a BIG book. But the class was great. MC tests and he throws out ? that majority gets wrong. NICE GUY TOO!
Extremely intelligent, funny with a dry sense of humor. Cell phones and computers you may as well leave in your car. Good man.
This class is insane. The man gives pop quizzes if students enter late or leave early. Sorry, but I'm in college now. I don't think I should penalized for someone else's problems. Powerpoints are boring and his tests are difficult to understand. The reading is excessive. Only take this class if you can devote 24/7 to it.
One of the best teachers ive ever had.
He is a great teacher. All his notes are online, but I recommend going to class. He has a rule about not being late, or using your cell phone or he'll give a pop quiz. Thats just for respect. His tests are based mostly off his book, but he will do everything in his power to help you understand it. His notes go over what was read. Curves his tests!
This was my second class with Dr.Moran. I just LOVE his classes. He is amazing! It is true to doesn't like cell phone and laptop in class, but as you get to know him and his teaching technics better it all comes together. He is extremely knowledable and definetly loves what he does. Take him, you will love it as much as all his students do!!
He is a great professor who cracks dry jokes but keeps you entertained. Test questions are mainly based on quotes from Tocqueville in the book and he practically curves every test. He also gives pop quizzes to the class if a cellphone goes off, a laptop is out, or someone is late/ leaves early.
He is very clear is his teaching style and class procedures. He modernized the material so the class could understand it. He was great!
Pro: Textbook is cheeeep. I got my copy of Toqueville for 12 bucks. He's got personality and class is interesting. Con: You actually have to read the book to get an A. And this thing works better than sleeping pills. If all you need is a B/C just memorize the slides and its pretty much a breeze.
Dr. Moran is so adorable and funny! I loved his class. He makes politics interesting, but his tests are HARD. He does grade on a curve, which is what saved me. Attend class, READ AND STUDY THE BOOK, take good notes, attend the SI sessions and you will make an A. I worked hard for that A, but it was worth it!
Dr. Moran was very insightful and very knowledgeable about the principles of American government. His tests, however, were not a reflection of his notes on any section. Frankly, they never had much to do at all with the section of notes he gave. The book is interesting. He is very structured and clear. I recommend him.
Textbook (Tocqueville) is HARD to read and pay attention to. It is boring, but class is fun. He is a little strict about attendance and being on time to class, but in the end it benefits the people who are there on time. Notes are straight from powerpoint, so you can print them out prior to class. He usually lets out early too. Great teacher!
The most professional professor i have had. EVERYTHING is by the syllabus, and is expected from the student. He throws pop quizzes for the class when a student is late, cell phone rings, or ppl come and go during class. Very knowledgeable prof, but his exams are hard and are weighted too heavily IMO. MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING HE ASSIGNS!!!!
Prof. Moran is very very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot from him just from the excellent Power Points. His favorite book is War and Peace and that was what we read. Yes, War and Peace all 1400 (?) pages. Good book however. Highly recommend for those interested in pol sci.
You have to read, or else you won't do stellar, but his power points are really detailed and helpful. He's very VERY knowledgeable but not too stern/serious. He makes really random and funny statements that make the class less tense.
THE MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR! He makes class go by so fast. He gives MAJOR curves to the tests that change most students one letter grade! Not alot of reading is necessary just follow the posted powerpoints! Tests are so easy! I wish I had more classes with him! Best professor in the entire U! Will take him again! Not alot of work needed 4class!
Great professor. His knowledge and passion for what he is teaching makes for an excellent, interesting course. For my class, though, his paper was a nightmare. It's best to start on it when you get the assignment and save yourself the heartache.
A former Naval Interrogator who got a BA from Georgetown, and recently was an analyst at the Pentagon. Teaches IN DEPTH ANALYSIS of Terrorism's roots with Dostoevsky's "Demons," and modern scholarship. He makes "A" students cry, and Neocons smile. He is a solid teacher who changes worldviews. This class is like taking a Brick to the face. Hard.
Dr. Moran is one of the best teachers I've ever had.
The greatest professor in Kennesaw State! Very polite, you just go to class everytime and you will do fine. He has great personality and makes the class shorter. I wish there are more professor such as Dr Moran.
Amazing, intelligent and experienced professor that i would highly recommend. Don't expect an easy A, but it is possible to receive an A if you read and work hard.
Great Prof! Very engaging! Fun personality and all around great teacher. I very much enjoyed his lectures. Puts powerpoints online so I would advising printing them off before class. Tough tests so study ahead of time and a lot!Engage in class! There are curves in test grades which helps a lot :)
Easy class. Guarantee A or B. Tests are curved like crazy. 8-10pg Term paper is about how a country has reacted to globalization (which is easy to write about). Don't have to read. No quiz. Just come to class and take notes then take the test. To top it off, his lectures are GREAT!!! He is TRUELY, TRUELY the best professor.
Disappointing. Class is called "Post Communist Europe" but we're just studying old Russian history, not modern Europe. Professor keeps going on how he admires Stalin, loves War and Peace (the 'textbook'). Also says we should have 2-3 hours of homework per class meeting. Avoid!
This is the most interesting professor with a quirky sense of humor. This makes the class pass by faster. Only thing is, it is HARD. You have to read ALL the readings, all the power point slides, and War&Peace. Oh and there is a term paper due at the end of the semester. If you want to learn take him, if you want an easy A, take another class.
He tests over very large amounts of material, so lots of reading. Oddly, he's most interesting when he goes off on tangents--this guy really had a full past. Army interrogator stationed in embassies, worked at the Pentagon...
I took him for Terrorism. Moran is an awesome teacher. He has a ton of experience and really knows what he is talking about. YOU MUST READ DEMONS...trust me. If not, good luck trying to pass. This is a very hard class but if you pay attention and come to class, you will be glad you did. I learned a lot from him.

Very knowledgeable, experienced prof who has a passion for the subject. The four week session was intense with 500+ pages of reading but not too difficult if you are interested in the subject. (If not it might be a struggle.) Tests are not difficult if you do all the reading and take careful notes. Very fair grader. Interesting class, good prof.
Prof is a complete nerd, in a good way. He is obsessed with the subject and seems to enjoy teaching it. Interesting lectures, good class. There was a lot of reading and a written assignment for each class. Four multiple choice exams with many student submitted questions from the daily assignments. Grades exams on a curve, very fair.
Took Int'l Terrorism with him. He goes VERY fast and his posted ppt don't match the ones he uses in class. That being said, he is a brilliant teacher and knows a crazy amount on the subjects he teaches. Very engaging, very fun class. Do the reading or you will not pass. His tests are tough, but not awful. This is a very tough but interesting class.
Really funny, likeable guy. He had a tendency to go on tangents in our class, mainly because of a couple talkative students. This class required ALOT of studying, but an A is possible! He's a great, helpful teacher. He says he doesn't believe in trick questions, but some test q's were about minor details. Pay attention. A great memory helps too.
Dr. Moran is a tough professor, but he knows his stuff and is passionate about his class. I had him in Great Books and his tests were difficult and required a lot of studying. However,I recommend him and learned a lot. Make sure you do the reading and study the power point slides. If you ask him, he will tell you some of what will be on the test.
You must: come to class, read the assigned readings, keep up with assignments. Do all that is asked of you and you will LEARN! Dr. Moran is EASILY the BEST PROFESSOR AT KSU! I'd rearrange my schedule without question in order to take another of his classes.
Moran is a fantastic professor. Funny and extremely knowledgeable. I took him for Post-Com Europe and Terrorism; each had a midterm, final, weekly questions on either War and Peace or Demons, a presentation, and a final paper. It is a lot of work, but very high payoff. I highly recommend this professor to the committed students.
Oh my God, I loved this class! Dr Moran really knows his stuff and our discussions were always interesting. The book, while a bit of a grind to get through, is highly prophetic at times and really makes you wonder where this country is going. Extremely funny guy, and if you can, talk to him outside of class. He has some great stories to tell also.
Holy cow, I loved this class! I dreaded having to take political science and by the end of the first week, I was absolutely looking forward to it. Dr Moran is witty, knowledgeable, and highly approachable. Focuses on why Americans are the way they are, instead of the normal stuff. Four tests, lots of readings, but definitely talk to him if you can
Dr. Moran made my semester. His lectures are amazing and I never once wanted to skip class. He assigns homework every night over the reading but you can skim and do it. Tests are easy. Presentation over a terrorist case of your choice that I did literally the night before and made an A. TAKE THIS CLASS!
Took Moran for Politics of Eurasia. Phenomenal lectures (very animated, engaging, etc.). Loves questions and telling stories. But! If you don't read (War and Peace or Demons) you will fail. Spark notes will not save you, nor any site like it. If you don't show up to class, you will lose a letter grade or more. VERY reading intensive. Read¬esB/A
Great professor. Very easy to talk to, and if you pay attention and go to class you will do very well.
So this professor tends to teach using a narrative fiction text, like War and Peace and Demons (Dostoevksy), but not easy reads but he uses them to explain his points throughout the semester really well. It all makes sense as long as you don't let yourself get behind on the readings. If you don't read, don't take this class.
Fun colloquium. Read and then talk about it. Basically a book club for a grade. Moran is a funny teacher and a he gives great ideas for a good time on a friday night. Strongly endorses Tocquevlle.
My absolute favorite professor at KSU. I'm positive I changed my major just to have the chance to meet him because MAN did I learn a lot about myself from his courses. It's not an easy class but it is extremely rewarding and interesting. I constantly share info I learned in this class in other courses. Take it.
Took him for POLS 1101 over the summer. He doesn't require a textbook, but he does require "Democracy in America", which is long and bland book. His lectures are otherwise interesting and he is VERY understanding. Test questions are student-submitted from the daily assignments. Easy A if you read the book and listen to his lectures!
His lectures are decent, with some information that is debatable. He uses democracy in America as a text book, which is a rough read (lots of rambling... nearly all of it) (also we are not a democracy we are a republic). Tests are student questions, and i never read anything and passed so take that for what its worth. Lots of HW.
Dr. Moran has been my favorite professor at KSU thus far. Took the Summer mini-mester on line and even in a condensed format, the class was enjoyable. Nice grading curves
I took the honors version for Great Books (If you don't know what that is go look it up asap.) Definitely have to go to class and pay attention. His lectures are very funny and interesting. I mostly sparknotes the reading and did fine. The tests are hard, but if you go to the SI & study a lot you will do well. He also gives a curve to every test.
Dr. Moran is such a nice man! I took the summer POLS class and it was surprisingly easy. You have to read the book to make test questions for homework. But I honestly didn't read it entirely. I only read a page or two of each chapter and did pretty well. He is also understanding and makes his lectures fun! I would for sure take his class again.
Dr. Moran is by far my favorite professor at KSU. He is a really charming man and makes class enjoyable. I hate American Government, but he makes it fun and does his best to make sure students understand the material. Dr. Moran is very personable and cares about his students. I would love to have him as a professor for all of my classes if I could!
I'll start off by saying he is not a bad professor and is very easy to pass. However, this class is a bunch of bologna as every class there is a guest speaker - he does not actually teach. Every week there are two things due: questions from your assigned books. Tests are hard to study for as he just uses the classes questions to create it.
Dr. Moran is by far my favorite professor at KSU. Dr. Moran genuinely cares about your success- not just in the class, but as a student at KSU. He often goes out of his way for IA and POLS majors to ensure they are on track and maximizing their credits. Classes are packed with information, Dr. Moran is so knowledgeable on each subject he teaches.
Moran is fantastic and so is this class. Theres a HW assignment every day, but it's easy. There's many guest lecturers but they give good info. There's not many grades, but his grading criteria is clear. Would for sure recommend for 2230 and I hope to take his upper level courses. He's quite smart and has lots of interesting stories.
Dr. Moran is one of my favorite professors at KSU. His classes are not difficult as long as you do the readings and work required. I highly recommend his classes.
Dr. Moran is an excellent professor. His lectures and course material are challenging and enlightening, in the truest sense I can manage. His focus on incorporating human psychology into the study of the subjects of his classes is fascinating, and his required readings are engaging and complementary of his lecture material. Be prepared to read.
I read the reviews and expected a good summer semester. I was wrong. This class has been horrible so far. You have HW due every week day and you have to read a book on AMERICAN Government written by a FRENCH man! It is hard to follow the readings. Tests are difficult for me. All test questions are made by students. Yeah. Good luck.
Dr. Moran is a very sweet man. There have been many times where my classmates and I have stayed after class to just talk with him. He made the great books program wonderful.
Dr. Moran is such a sweet man. The class is rather difficult, but he makes it worth it and will support you in any way possible. My friends and I stay after class to talk to him quite a bit.
Moran is an amazing teacher and really, REALLY cares about what he teaches and his students. You should show up to class if you want a good grade but he makes everything accessible and responds super fast. Honestly you have to just be lazy or not care to do bad in this class. Was an awesome experience and wish I could take him more!!
This course was intimidating at first. It was far from that after the first few classes. I cannot remember a day of class that I didn't laugh. Dr. Moran was an amazing professor and really connected with his students. There are daily assignment to stay on top of, but if you pay attention and do those assignments, you will do fine. Take Dr. Moran!!
You have a quick homework assignment every day that you have class. Every test is based off of student made questions that are formulated from the powerpoints. He has a lot of guest lecturers. This class is very easy and helps so much as you prepare for the rest of your major and your career. Highly recommend Professor Moran.
I loved his class, and I would 100% take a course taught by him again. Just follow directions and do the work and you'll do great.
For POLS 1101 he gave 3 tests including the final. The tests are all straightforward, but include a lot of content. If you read and study all of the material he gives you, you will be fine. It will be time consuming but it is relatively easy to get a high grade. Dr. Moran is also very friendly. Everyone in my class loved him.
Dr. Moran is a fun professor, BUT this class is very difficult. hw every night and the tests are made up of MC's that the students create for the hw. If you collaborate with people in your class, to make a study guide, it helps a ton! otherwise tests are extremely difficult. txtbook is huge and will be a large part of each test and is hard to pass.
I had Moran for POLS 1101 as well, but I liked this class better. He is super knowledgeable about Russian literature (we read Dostoevsky) and had really insightful and amazing discussions. The class was nearly 2 hrs and could get very boring, but class participation isn't required. Hw was only answering one question after class abt discussion.
Generally very entertaining lectures. The textbook is long is boring, but exam questions are chosen out of questions based on the material submitted as homework after each class. Collaborate with other students to create a study guide out of all the questions you wrote and you will be fine.
This is my second time taking a course with Dr. Moran and he is amazing! The textbooks we read are not your average college books, and are very interesting. Especially Demons. You do have daily assignments for every class, so stay on top of that. Even though they are only worth 4 points it does make a difference. TAKE THIS COURSE!!
Avoid him at all costs! No study guides are provided for tests. If you email him more than once he will become very short with you. He suggested for me to either drop the course or find another professor when I was confused about the weekly assignments, rather than try to help me.
Do not take this course or any course of his online. He is very strict about due dates and times. Half the class will fail the exams. There are two homework assignments every week which are easy to forget and miss. He is not great about communication and is VERY short with you in emails. Godspeed to those after me who will take this course online.
The few times I emailed with him he was nice enough but not accommodating in the slightest. The textbook is quite interesting but huge.assignments are writing questions and they are worth little of your grade. Your other grades are tests which are hard, they are the questions we create. They are timed and have lockdown browser and camera.
Dr. Moran is not for new college students, but as long as you care about the class you will do great. I took his Politics of US Intelligence class and did well. Literally go to class and do the homework and you'll get an A. The tests are curved and the assignments aren't difficult. He's funny and very knowledgeable.
He might be great as an in-person professor, but I wouldn't recommend him for an online course. The only grades available are twice a week 1-pt each homework grades, 3 exams, and an introduction discussion post. There are no study guides or quizzes, so you never know what to study. Just one textbook, C-SPAN videos, and old lecture recordings.
Lots of busy work based on lectures, readings, & documentaries. Big grades are term paper, presentation, final, & midterm. He picks the questions for the 2 tests from the 3 weekly assignments submitted by the students, but luckily gives a curve if a lot miss them. Great guy who cares about his students, but can be brutal with feedback. 9.8/10!

He was okay. Our tests were so weird and we had to read the most hard to decipher textbook. Tests were so bad he curved 20-30 points each. Do all the assignments though and you should be good. No extra credit or bumping at all.
Take Dr. Moran!!!! He can be a bit blunt, but his class makes you learn a lot and you will want to go to class each week. Assignments aren't too difficult but there are quite a few. Do your work on time and go to class and you will have no problems at all.
If I could give him a -100 score I would. I have loved every single professor at KSU and their class structures, except for this guy
By far the hardest class I've ever taken as 4.0 GPA (senior) student. Unreasonable amount of workload for a summer course. I wish I had dropped it. Maybe he is better during the fall semester/in an in-person class. He is nice, polite, and helpful though. Take him at your own risk.
I took this as an 8-week summer course. This class was DIFFICULT, but I got through it. I would imagine it's a lot less stressful in an 15-week. Moran is a great prof, with good lectures and experience. He is honest about grading and clear on expectations. Just expect to do a good amount of work to earn that A!
He was an okay professor. Exams are lockdown browser and webcam. He does curve exams. He is very blunt and will not make an exception on assignment so follow his instructions clearly. He is easy to reach. Class consist of a research presentation/paper, 2 exams and daily questions based on the readings or videos. Probably can make an a or b.
POLS 4423 - Philosophy. Enjoyed the readings. Cheap textbooks. Interesting material. Difficult tests but throws away questions. Accessible outside of class. Charismatic. Two major tests, one paper, easy homework. If you're an OG northerner, you'll understand and appreciate him. He is no nonsense but that's respectable!
Professor Moran's class is challenging but rewarding. Stay on top of the work, engage in discussions, and use helpful study tools like unstuck AI - you'll learn a lot. His feedback can be tough, but he genuinely cares about student success.
This professor is not nice or helpful at all. Short window open for you to take the exams, and if you work or have personal issues, he will not accommodate. He has a heavy workload, and he does not accept any makeup. Also, all the work is graded on a very low scale, so once you fail something it's hard to bounce back. There are no study guides.
Dr. Moran is the coolest professor ever. Military background so he's got lots of stories! He's really good at teaching his lectures and is very funny so you stay engaged and don't get bored. He does have three assignments a week but they're super easy. He has a presentation project which is also pretty easy. tests are easy if you study!
An amazing professor with entertaining lectures, great discussions, and a clear enthusiasm for what he's teaching. The class required attendance (which, even if it didn't I'd HIGHLY recommend showing up cause the lectures make the textbook make 90% more sense). There's a lot of reading required outside of class and TAKE NOTES!!!
This professor was by far the worst one I have ever had. Grades pointless work based on format, fails to read content, and heavily weighs tests. That being said, the tests are at 5 am and if you have any conflict, forget about it. He is unwilling to accommodate for those who work and quite frankly rude when you have questions. Drop the class
Assignments due 2 times a week (Monday and Wednesday), 4 books required to purchase ($75~100). Tests were available from 6 AM-9AM and he did not accept late tests. Daily assignments were very tedious and felt lackluster. Take what I say with a grain of salt considering I dropped it (and half of my class did as well).
this dude opens his 2 exams (worth 50% of your grade) at 6 in the morning, and closes them at 9 in the morning on the same day
Only teacher for this class so I'm stuck. Has 6am-9am exams. Tried asking for extension or different time and did not budge. First day of class had to watch a 2 hour video and do assignment due by 11:30. This will proceed to be the case Monday and Wednesday rest of semester. Run away if possible, if not. May the odds forever be in your favor
