Incredible teacher. Easy to understand. Clear instructions. Took his courses distance education and was absolutely thrilled. Took both poetry and technical writing courses.
He is a wonderful, understanding professor. His poetry course (via the internet) is challenging, yet fun!
he makes u enjoy the class because of his enthusiasm of the material itself. a great guy to get along with!!!
great teacher
he seems really interesting, and seems like the students can really relate to him, plus hes a cute one hahaha!
Mr. Panza is a great teacher I have taken four subjects with him all web based or Distance Learning.
Nice guy. Seems to know a bit about humanities and the arts. Will take him again some time.
A nice guy. Good teacher. Interesting. Plays in a band.
Great teacher! had him in webcourse and onecampus course. Very helpful and nice. Very chatty after class! GREAT GUY!!!!
He's a great teacher. He knows what he's talking about. Attendance is part of your grade so try not to miss many classes.
best teacher ever. you will learn so much from this guy.
He's just an interesting guy -- class is always very interactive and fun (but you still learn a lot).
I took this class to see if I wanted to go back to graduate school. Prof Panza is such a nice and caring person and professor. His class was great, lots of fun, I learned a ton. He is very helpful. I like how he he encourgages students to keep writing and to attempt to get published. He even wrote me a letter of reccomendation for grad school.
EXCELLENT teacher! work wasn't easy, but he is more than fair, easy to talk to and very interesting! Would take class again in a heartbeat!
Is good at keeping class interesting, relates to young and older people easily, fun professor, nice guy.
Professor Panza is a great teacher and makes things very easy to understand. He makes the journey of learning about poetry extremely interesting and worthwhile. I never feel like I'm wasting my time.
He never explained anything and took points off without telling us why. There were no rubrics or anything. Grade was not clear.
great professor. he gives us all we need to do well. if we ask for more feedback we get it. the previous posting is sour grapes. go cry a river.
One of the best professors I ever had. Took for a weblearning class on poetry. Mr. Panza has a real passion for William Blake and poetry in general. His comments were insightful, and he really has a knack for bringing poetry to life. I got an English degree from CSU but this was my favorite class.
Prof Panza is cool and all but his grading system is bizare and tough to figure out. Get this...received a B despite getting A+ on most essays and quizes. Worst essay grade was 92. But he said i didnt participate enough. Colleges dont really care about Honors classes so find an easy teacher and save urself the trouble. Stay away from this guy.
Like most reviewers he is not an easy teacher and expects you to work and work hard. You will spend endless hours trying to figure out how he grades assignments. Overall would not take him again because you will work three times as hard compared to sane teachers. My friends were suprised when i told them the assignments i had to do for this guy...
He's a great professor. You'll work hard and learn a lot.
To the person below who complains about getting a B, you should proofread your writing more. Maybe that's why you didn't get an A? Panza is an excellent teacher. He does make us work. He is always fair and the grade you earn equals your effort.
He is a good teacher but I would never take him again. He is someone who loves english and expects you to love it to. Many complained about their grades but I did ok.
Great teacher who is passionate about the subject and extremely knowledgeable. Very helpful and anyone complaining about their grades probably weren't trying very hard. Came into his class as an okay writer who hated lit and now a great one with a major in it. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to think critically about lit and other subjects.
Second time taking a course with him, liked it even better than the last time, though it was much more challenging. If you are interested in actually learning and growing intellectually and as a writer Mr. Panza is the best choice around.
He is an amazing Professor & very helpful!! Very knowledgeable about the classed he teaches. I had him for Eng 1010 last semester & really liked the way he taught that class, so this semester I enrolled in his Humanities class as well. A fair grader and clearly expresses his expectations of his students. You won't regret taking his class!!
very cute lol and very knowledgeble..you have to come to class and do the work simple. but the way he grades is a bit wierd
I learned a lot from him about writing and literature. He grades fairly and is honest with students about their strengths and weaknesses. Take him, you won't regret it.
Best teacher in the world! I wish I could take him for ENG 1020! He was very helpful and the assignments were uncomplicated. RECOMMENDED!!
Hard class but worth the work, pop culture section of the class was awesome!
Very fair and helpful teacher. Can be difficult to reach quickly with online courses and sometimes the responses are short; but to the point and get the message across. Grading is fair, with no surprises on tests. Excellent communicator, occasional extra credit- but not going to change a bad grade to a good one. Teaches very interesting books.
Great teacher, really works with you, and provides a lot of insight. You'll never be bored in his class, he encourages a lot of class discussion, and at least in his honors courses is fine with the discussion going its natural course for a while(aka tangential topics). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
This is why college can be a life changing experience for students ? u will grow by taking any class with this professor ? give his best at all times without fail - Good class just show up for every class - DO ALL THE HOMEWORK!!!!! ? relax and enjoy good teaching ? Big Up?s to this professor
Great teacher, good guy. Prepare to yes, work several hours weekly to get a good grade in this class. Should get an A or B however if you can find a few hours to spend on this class weekly. Teacher is very approachable and very knowledgeable.
One of the greatest prof I have ever had. He has so much passion, in class their was many times he went over the hour and 15 minutes and no one noticed. Take him, not a hard class and you will learn so much.
A really fair, friendly, and helpful teacher. He is definitely wacky, but really knows his stuff and is passionate about teaching. As long as you were putting in the work he was willing to help you work around deadlines, etc. I would gladly take a class with him again! Made me love school again after hating it for 5+ years!
Professor Panza was a great instructor! I took his Humanities course and I really enjoyed it! The curriculum was very diverse and he made the course enjoyable, interesting, understandable and less intimidating. He is very passionate, sincere, and knowledgeable in his teaching. I learned a lot and am glad I took the course!
Great professor! Really would love to have him for the rest of my English classes. Made class a lot of fun. No tests just online quizzes and lots and lots of journals!
This guy is amazing. I loved that he told stories related to what we were learning. You have to work for your grade, nothing extreme but you have to do the work to take the tests and I think that is pretty smart. HE is a great guy and and wants you to learn and take something from his class. Can't wait to take his poetry and other HUM class :D
OMG THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! he is very clear and nice. Please take this class you will not be disappointed!! He is very funny as well, so you will not get bored!!
He was an amazing english professor! This was my first college class, I was a PSEOP student, and he made class enjoyable. I would take this class a million times just to have him as a professor. Great great guy!
Honestly, the best professor ever!! He is very helpful and understanding!! He makes learning fun and I did not get bored in the class. Please take panza you will not be disappointed! YOU ROCK Mr.Panza!!!!!
Great professor! He makes class fun and is very relatable. He does make you read a lot but it isn't too much that you won't be able to handle it.
If I was a professor, my inspiration would come from John Panza's lecturing style. As others have said, he's very welcoming to any questions, is very knowledgeable about the subject, and goes the extra mile to ensure that you have enough knowledge about the quizzes and tests to get a good grade in the class. One of the absolute best professors.
Without a shadow of a doubt the best teacher in tri-c. He is clear and concise and very committed to teaching. Hes hilarious and will definitely make you smile.
Professor Panza is passionate in everything he does. He is not a guy who is here just for the money, and his lectures show that. He shares personal stories and makes everyone feel they are involved and can be free to speak their mind about the current topic. A great teacher, and there are not enough words to describe what a great guy he is.
I took Mr. Panza's Honors College Composition class and it was a great experience. Class time is discussion based. You do have to read weekly but it isn't unmanageable. He's a great teacher and will take the time to go over any questions you have if you take advantage of his office time. He's funny and really down to earth. I'd def recommend!!
Professor Panza is by far one of the best teachers I have ever learned from. He is helpful, inspirational, and knows his stuff. His door is always open and he gives you all the essays ahead of time. There are no surprises in his class, he is consistent and informative. His class is an experience you don't want to miss out on.
Definitely the best professor I've had in my entire college career. I transferred from a great public university, and even there the professors could not match Professor Panza's talent and love for the humanities. The lectures are the key to your success. I never walked out of a class without new knowledge. SO knowledgable about art!!
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Classes are fun and engaging, assignments are challenging, in a good way, but also very fair. There is admittedly a decent amount of work, but it is both interesting and thought provoking. Panza makes sure to provide excellent feedback and include students in the lectures. Really focuses on growth.
I decided to take Panza based off of good things I heard from other students. His lectures are fun to participate in since he often talks about interesting things that aren't in the textbook. Be prepared for weekly 8-10 online quiz (that you WILL need your textbook for) & journals due with exams. Warning: sometimes cancels class because of health.
I chose professor Panza based on this website and I'm so glad I did. He cares, has great feedback and is (no joke!) one of the most interesting people I've ever met. He is really passionate about what he teaches and who he teaches. I think anyone who has him, looks forward to class. You will have a fair amount of work but it's worth it!
I've already had 2 classes with Prof Panza and I'm taking a third next semester. He is interesting, laid back and extremely knowledgeable. He loves what he does and enjoys what he teaches and it really shows. He provides study guides so as long as you study those and show up, there's no reason not to pass. It helps that he's pretty cute too ;)
I really, really enjoyed professor Panza, Awesome teacher, one of my best professors, explained good, Welling to help, clear grading, really enjoyed his class
Professor Panza's class was very organized and straightforward. The class became a little tedious after awhile. The homework wasn't difficult, it was just the same thing each week. Do the work well and you'll be graded fairly.
He gives Unesseaary work. He makes things harder then what they are. I only took him for a nursing program received an f and now I truly regret it because I passed all my other classes with an A and this class brought my GPA down. If your not into poetry get out while you can!
Best teacher I've ever had. Cares so much about students and really loves to teach. Class is super engaging and he is always available for questions. Lots of homework but not too much to handle. Would love to take another of his classes!
He's one of the best teachers I have ever had! Very kind, easy going, down to earth, and just overall a great guy. He will always answer questions and emails, as well as help you with any assignments. He's great!
He talks to you and understands what a college student goes through. He gives you opportunities, but do make sure you dont abuse this. He is so kind, helpful and you can always depend on him to give you a chance to get your grade up.
I took this class online and we had to read 4 books over 14 weeks, the first two I was able to get away with not reading as everything was on google but the last 2 I had to. This was a great course and really got me thinking and caring about the book content/themes. Fast-paced. I feel I got a better grade than I deserved. Would recommend.
By far one of my favorite teachers of all time. I took both eng101h and eng102h with him. Personally, I found him to be genuinely caring and helpful. He understands what you're going through and offers a lot of flexibility. Just make sure you don't abuse his kindness. Extremely easy to talk to and just all around a great person!
Great professor and very personable. Made going into class enjoyable and everyone loved him!
Prof. Panza was one of my first instructors and he set the bar quite high. I took 3 classes and would have continues but he went on Sabbatical! Wrote more than in any other course. I am ready for my four year experience because of the long, detailed, meticulously researched, and CITED (20 sources folks) a research paper The real magilla!
I am just finishing Prof. Panza's poetry class. It was a great experience! I was a little intimidated in the beginning but the course material is easy to follow. Prof. Panza provides thought provoking prompts through the lecture notes and really helped me to understand the content. He's a gem of a professor!
This was my third time taking a class with Professor Panza and he has only gotten better with time.
Learned a lot and he pushes you to excel. Great class!
Brilliant professor, don't hesitate to take his British Literature class. Took his class in the summer for 5 weeks. Had to do 3 heavy readings, 3 quizzes, and 2 discussion boards each week.
As long as you do the work you'll get a good grade. Panza is a really cool guy and a very reasonable teacher/grader, so you really can't go wrong taking him. Easy class and not very time consuming.
Professor Panza was a great professor. Although my class did not meet online, he did make an amazing effort to connect with the class. This class will teach you so much about poetry, it's amazing. As someone who isn't a huge fan of poetry, I legitimately enjoyed this class!
Best english teacher there is! Always willing to help after class, responds to emails fast, and cares about his students. I took 101H during the fall of 2019 and 1020H the following semester, I would definitely choose this professor again!
This professor has no clear grading criteria and uses subjective measures to assess your work. I spent over 10 hours completing the final assignment and got a low A on the project. He also is a slow grader and often is 4-5 weeks behind on grading assignments. Not the level of quality professor I was expecting.
If you are a student who loves to expand their mind through books, then this professor is for you.
Absolutely fantastic professor! Although fully online, class was still very fun and engaging. He also gives great feedback, allowing oneself to improve. My only qualm is the long, egregious essay due at the end of the semester. However, he gives plenty of time to do it.
Professor Panza is easily one of the most enjoyable professors I've ever studied under. His love for literature was evident through the level of detail and care he put into his lectures each week. He also has a great sense of humor and clearly cares about his students. I can't wait to take him again next semester!
Professor Panza changed my entire outlook on composition. I wish I had taken his course earlier in my education. Before his class, writing felt like the most impossible chore. He gave me the tools to communicate correctly and effectively. You will look forward to attending his class.
Wonderful professor that is clearly driven and passionate about literature and poetry! I highly recommend. Weekly assignments include one journal(and responses to peers)and one quiz. At the end of the semester there is a portfolio that reflects on past journal assignments. Textbooks were provided by him by pdfs and all assignments were super clear!
Prof Panza is one of my favorite professors ever. This class was amazing and I learned so much. There is writing and a quiz each week along with reading. However the way he helps you examine the works you read is so helpful and inspiring. I will be taking as many of his classes as I am able to.
Poor communication and unclear expectations.
Good professor, lots of work. He took a while grading (2-4 weeks) and is hard. Each week your work is chapter reading (25-75 pages), a toughly graded discussion board (350-500 words min w/ citations) , Completion based Discussion Board Replies (100+ words min) , and a quiz which can be 1-3 written questions or 10 multi choice / fill in the blank.
Hands down worst class I've ever taken. No rubrics, being graded weeks later and based on his mood. Subjected to his friend's terrible poetry for weeks. The equivalent of sitting around a campfire being forced to listen to someone sing uncatchy folk music out of tune for 3 straight hours. Most grueling experience of my academic career. Bar none.
He was a super nice guy, we had to mandatory virtual meetings with him. We just did the same assignments Every. Single. Week. Discussion post, reply to said discussion board, and a quiz. I personally get super bored of doing the same assignments every week. There is also no writing of poetry, it is all analyzing it.
Amazing and passionate professor. I enjoyed in-class discussions, which he often tied to real-world events. Assignments were consistent from week to week. His grading criteria was very clear, he provided excellent feedback (when directly asked), and he gave us a lot of time to prepare for our final paper. I couldn't recommend Prof Panza enough.
Professor Panza provides thought provoking assignments and lectures that encourages students to engage with the materials and their fellow classmates in a way that helps students understand the material and their communities better.
