OK Professor but does not answer students question very clearly and tend to not undertand the students point of view. Class avg. 65 don't take him if he's ur last option.
take his summer class:He allows you to buy a copy of his notes and all test questions are from the notes. Grade based on 3 exams & A final Each worth 25% He explains everything clearly almost to the point where he makes you feel stupid but its effective
Awesome teacher.Took him this fall semester and was a pleasure to talk to. He is always so clear to answer questions you may have. He's also so very patient and understandable. He does give out notes that you can purchase. Just study and make sure you ask questions, great teacher!
He is by far the best teacher I have ever had. He made chem easy and before this class having had no prior chemistry I was scared. I am just sad that he is not teaching chem II, I was looking forward to taking him again. I highly recommend him, he is by far the easiest professor and test are easy.
Compelled to rate Mr. P. because he is the first teacher who actually appreciates a student's efforts.Should have made C on my own merit, but ended with B.His class was not easy, but his notes are very helpful and the lectures are from the notes.Recommend him Highly! Cares about students and teaching
great teacher. down to earth and willing to help and answer questions. final was 10 questions T/F for lab. learned alot and lab was fun and for me to say that means alot. great prof.
There is no such thing as an easy chemistry class but this is as easy as chemistry gets. Professor Paparelli wants students to do well. He will push test back if he doesn't think the class is prepared and posts his notes online. If you know the notes you'll do well on the test. Try to take this as a summer class. Book not needed!
took him in the summer very hard... don't recommend this teacher. He may give you the lecture notes.. but almost everyone in my class was c or below. There are better teachers out there!
Took the summer class, fast and furious but I worked very hard and got an A. Good notes, everything from the notes, book good for background.
Took class in summer... and it was hard, but he was highly organized and provided excellent notes to print out. I would definately take him again if I needed Chemistry, he tries to make a hard subject simple. Great professor... highly recommended.
Good teacher.
The best Chem teacher I've ever had. He makes everything easy to understand and his notes tell you everything that will be on the test. As long as you study, you should be able to do well. He doesn't get annoyed when people ask a lot of questions. He helps you out a whole lot in lab. Highly recommend.
I didn't have a clue about chem but he cared that I get it and loved the way he taught the material. He is straight forward, fair and professional. I will forever remember how to interpret and utilize the periodic table :-)
He is the best Chemistry professor I've ever had. He is the only teacher who has been able to make chemistry understandable for me. He is very patient and always willing to help. He doesn't get annoyed when people ask a lot of questions. Curves his grades. The lab book is very important so be sure to do a good job on it. Take his class!!!
i would take him, if needed. got a B, notes were good and lectures were good too. tests were not and he ended up curving alot.
Easier than Chem I. Gives internet notes & takes quizzes & exams off of these. Very helpful in lab (basically gives you all the answers). Everyone complained about not enough time on tests so he made them shorter. Knows how to explain chemistry so that everyone gets it. Would take any class he taught. He's funny (although he may not mean to be.) A+
i'm not sure if it was the material or the prof but i didnt understand either! dont ask questions cause he's gets a little snappy. material was covered quickly for summer. 4 exams all worth 25% final is cummalative. dont get me wrong, he's nice and a little cooky and he does want everyone to pass but he didnt teach it well.
Very good teacher!! Take him, he is very helpful and the tests & quizzes are easy if u just study the notes inside & out. He speaks chemestry in english. The labs are great because if u finish early u get to leave early.
nice guy, bad memory. skipped much material then tested us over it. tests/quiz's very hard. expects you to print out about 400 pages of notes (which is about the width of the book) & take notes from board. Some test questions I couldn't find in the notes, from lecture, or book. 4 people passed
Tests and quizes were very difficult, designed to take too much time. I never finished one test due to lack of time. Can u say 33q in 55min. No Way!!! Absolutely no reviews before, or after tests. Great deal of time spent on unimportant info. Told class to stick it out, but scr_wed us all. I've taken Chem b4 & got an B+, this class was ridiculous!
Second to worst class I've ever had. Although he may joke around, he shows little to no interest in helping the students he teaches. He spends more time on useless stories that leaves his classes more confused and lost than before he started. Tests were extremely hard. Can't believe he hinted for those failing to stick with the class. Big mistake.
Tests were confusing because he asked questions that didn't parallel his lectures, too little time for tests most of the class failed... only 4 people will move up to Chem II. Take Garza.... AVOID!!!
hard quizzes and very difficult tests. Long notes and very little time for tests i have to retake che 1411 thanks to him and this is the 1st time that happens to me. Think twice before taking this techer if you worryabout your gpa
Probably the most fair teacher I have ever had. His tests and quizzes are difficult but if you study you should do well.He is reasonably helpful in his office, just try not to get him when he is in a bad mood, he gets a little fussy. You should be prepared to spend hours going over the notes he gives you to get an A.Overall a good class and teacher
Too much math on tests in too little time. Like 30 questions in 50 minutes! It would take him 15 minutes to work the problem out on the board, and then give us like 7 minutes to do it on a test. When a student can go from an 80 on a quiz to FAILING a test, it's not the student.
you will learn in this class
so so
Paparelli is a wonderful teacher. You can tell that he really cares for his students. I took his 6wk Summer Chem 1407 course which was A LOT of information in a little amount of time. If you want a good teacher that will layout the material clearly, choose Prof. Paparelli.
CAUTION!!!! THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING THIS COURSE. I THINK THE EASY THING IN THIS COURSE WAS THE LAB PART. EXAMS AND QUIZES ARE VERY HARD!!! HIS LECTURES ARE VERY BORING, BUT KIND OF HELPFUL. DON'T ASK QUESTIONS BECAUSE HE IS ONE OF THOSE TEACHERS WHERE THEY ALREAY EXCEPT YOU TO KNOW YOUR OWN ANSWER.
I don't know what everyone is talking about, this guy is a very good prof. who cares about his students. Tests are hard and challenging, but you can make an A on them if you study. He will stay after class and answer questions if you have them, but he does expect you to have a basic knowledge of the material from study on your own.Hard earned B
This was a very hard class; I'm not sure if anything can be done about that though. It seemed to me, he made the tests harder than they had to be, but what do I know? He does kind of make up for it with hugh curves and adding a bit more weight to the lab. Over all a great guy, just a hard clase--have a lot of time for it outside of clase!
Tests were very hard, the kind you could study 3 days in a row and still make a 75 (with the curve). But nice guy, helps you out alot with the curves and grades easily on quizes. Easy lab will help your average. But TEST AND FINAL WERE CRAZY HARD! but its chem 2, its hard no matter what. got a B and took 20 hours that semester.
Terrible. Teaches from power point only. Book will teach you, like being in an online class. Tests are designed to trip you up, not about how well you know material. Tests are designed unfairly, you will end up guessing, even if you studied well for (4-5)hours a day. Only one A in class. B student gets a c, C student, you will fail. AVOID
Ah, Papp. He really does want you to pass. And he truly tries to help you pass... in other words, he's lenient. If you want to actually understand chemistry though, I recommend Prof. Krishnan or Prof. Usha; they know their stuff and will help you learn it too.
OMG he makes things wayy harder then it needs to be. Confusing. AVOID.
OMG.. he puts things on the test hes never lectured over, and its not in the book, makes things waayyy too hard, straight a students struggle to comprehend. out of all his classes only 4 people made an a on his test. Majority fail! TERRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COST!
This guy is extremely tough! I am a registered nurse and thought I was pretty smart, but with this guy no friggin way! He lectures on stuff thats not even on his test, or changes problem setups around. If you want a difficult instructor, take this guy. I ended having to drop, just look at his drop rate. Wish I would of used this website before.
Rough class... Organic chemistry is not to be messed with, and Paparelli made sure we knew it. He was always available for help, though, and did what he could to steer us right.
He's understanding and all, but...Chemistry during the Summer is tough. I dropped it due to not being able to keep up and not wanting to lower my GPA.
LIES... He says that if you do all your work and turn in on time. Make decent grades on tests that it is an Easy A..... lies I say..... Dont take this professor
Ok, he is extremely hard.If your at sac, i would go to another campus to take chem. You will barely pass even when you study for days/hours/weeks.TERRIBLE. AVOID!!!!!!!
He says he teaches his class as if your a Pharm. Major.. WAAYYY hard. AVOID IF YOU WANT A GOOD GRADE. Theres only 8 people in my class! that has to tell you something!
STRONG foundation in Chemistry..take him. If not, STAY AWAY! Uses Powerpoint says not to use book, teaching style is easy, quizes not too bad, but them you get the exams and they're SO RIDICULOUS! Exams are above and beyond what is taught in class. I got A's on quizzes, but F's on exams. Something's wrong. 1st time I've ever had to drop a class.
I thought he was great. If you're looking for a prof that will give you tests questions where you just have to plug the right numbers into an equation, look elsewhere. However, if you want to understand chemistry and how it relates to the rest of universe (it's fascinating), take him. I used to hate chemistry but he really opened my mind to it.
OMG! (LOL-most of the students rating on here should not be in college.) Certainly not an easy prof, but totally helps you understand the difficult concepts. Able to cut through the math & show the why. Tests are timed, multiple choice, & straight off the power point slides, book is helpful but not necessary. Gotta study--this is college.
Harsh grader. Curves exam grades. Doesn't use the textbook. Teaches and tests from his slides, which should be easy enough but when you take the exam you feel lost like you see the material for the first time in your life. If you get a chance to take chem II with somebody else take it with somebody else.
He was the only professor teaching 1407 this semester and it is terrible. On the first quiz and test 90% failed. His lectures off powerpoint are crystal clear, but then the tests (memorization) and quizzes (application) come. Insane.
Not only is his exams and lectures ridiculous, he is also rude and not helpful at all. He puts topics on the test that are not covered in lecture. He yells at the whole class if the quiz or test results were not to his satisfaction. If you miss a class, he makes you feel bad and will not tell you what was missed. One word-Jerk. Don't take this guy!
Subject matter is not easy and requires a lot of effort which means going to lectures, reading ppts & book, and practice. I don't know in what class 90% of students failed the first test, but I'm taking the class this semester as well and the average on the first test was around 74. I got a 95 w/o a problem. Gosh, who writes these comments?
Not easy but he is fair. Teaches from power point slides. I didn't even buy the book. If you want to pass just pay attention and study your notes. Take advantage of office hours if you need help. If you are lazy and don't want to study then take someone else. If you want to learn at a college level and not have it given to you then he is your man!
These ppl make me laugh! Prof Pap's class is no walk in the park, but it is college get use to it! Chances are if you are taking 1407 you are trying to get into a nursing program somewhere, and if you struggled in his class good luck in nursing school! Just study the book and notes and you will be fine. He is always there for help. I made an "A".
Hands down the hardest class I have ever taken. I never missed class took amazing notes studied my ass off and have never worked so hard for a D in my life and I am a high B student. If you are a Chem major take him if not please save yourself and take someone who's personal mission in life is to not weed down the nursing school population.
Even though i made an A i wouldnt take him again. He couldnt even finished teaching all the chapters cause he went off track all the time talking about random stuff not related to the subject. I studied hard and almost ate the book and thats how i got the A. Good luck to yall!
Simply avoid him.he spent 5 weeks in the same chapter, then decided to cram the rest of the chapters in 3 weeks before the final. very confusing. Don't be late. Study his powerpoints and what he writes. tests and quizes come from there, NOT the book.He is there for help though.I think he is the one writing the only 'nice' comments on his profile.
quizzes and tests are very tricky. not enough time to finish. dont take him.
The rudest, most anti-student professor I have ever had. Not only are his tests inconsistent with the classroom presentations, he demeans students on a regular basis. For those who are willing to suckup in his office - BE MY GUEST. Otherwise, hold your head up high and take a real college professor somewhere else. Self-aggrandizing period.
WARNING: His lectures are deceiving for the tests. He definetely does not give you enough time for the test. He snatches your tests if your not done. No reviews. He words the tests to his liking making it difficult to understand the questions so you spend a lot of time trying to understand what he's asking. Very condensending. DO NOT TAKE!
Ok, so yes he's is the hardest professor I've ever had, and all previous comments are true. I had no life while in this class, I ended up ignoring all my other classes because of this dude and still failed all but one test. I ended up with a C in his class. Quizzes and labs help big time. Avoid his class if possible.
First: this is COLLEGE CHEMISTRY for nursing majors, not hiugh school. 2nd: you have to pay attention and go to class and take notes and ask queations. 3rd: yeah, the tests are hard and too short; study his notes every day to succeed; Lab book: fill out every blank, NEATNESS COUNTS. Finally, if you're not getting the grade you want, ASK FOR HELP
Pap's class was very tough, required plenty of work and extra practice, and didnt allow you to slack off. However, he was completely straight forward and fair, exams were not tricky at all, and he was more than helpful if you showed genuine interest.Hardest ive ever worked in a class, but also the best professor ive had. Would highly recommend him
Summer Semester: Hardest class i have ever taken. I am an A-student and studied 8-12 hours a week and at least 12+ hours the day before the exam. He's a good guy but teaches this class like you're a chem maj. This is NOT an EASY CLASS. In labs in complete sentences and explain the how,the why,and be neat in your work.My first time not getting an A
The hardest class I have taken by far. Don't bother buying the book, it's pointless. Study his power points, but his tests are still going to be really hard. He makes up for it by making them making them worth 25% final grade. He has a huge homework load, I probably spent 10-15 hours a week on homework at a bare minimum. You will learn Chemistry.
Very Condescending! Only uses his powerpoint slides for exams but words his tests and quizzes very differently. Rambles on when it comes to the lectures and then crams the rest in and cuts the lecture and still doesn't manage to finish. If you want a professor who will help, take someone else.
He is very helpful when you ask for help. He likes the work done a certain way but if you listen on the first day he explains everything. It is difficult but if you pay attention, it can be easy.
He is a very good teacher and gives very good examples when you don't understand something. I took him in Maymester, it was tough. No quizes, no homework, 4 exams in 4 weeks, 10 chapters, a lot of info, like 60 formulas for final exam. If you will dedicate time to this subject you will learn and you will make it. Overall very good prof.
He is extremely rude and disrespectful, he is not helpful whatsoever and is not fair in is test giving practice. He is not a professor who cares if you pass or fail, which is unacceptable!! He lacks common courtesy and tack and he should be FIRED!
This class is only hard if you don't study. I recommend two hours of studying per hour of lecture. I took during the summer, so he covers A LOT and moves at a very fast pace. He can come off as rude, but I think it is more because he gets frustrated when people don't pay attention to what he is saying.
Great!
NO REVIEWS, NO HELP, NO EXAMPLES. average of first test was 52. Literally walked away from me when I asked for help after class. Has plenty of excuses for why we do poorly, but never accuses himself for poor instruction method. It's college, I get it, but not an excuse to be ridiculing, condescending, unhelpful, and arrogant towards students.F F F
It's a tough class! Expect to read the material 2-3x! He allows you to record his lectures so do it! He expects his students to come prepared to class from day 1 so be sure to look at his syllabus on Concorse prior to attending . He will help you but only if he sees you're trying. He can be abrupt but he genuinely cares about his students.
Mr. Paparelli really breaks down the material and teaches. He puts out all information for tests, quizzes, labs, etc... Just make sure to take great note. He tells you what to study for and what is on the quizzes and exams. I would recommend recording his lectures. However, the course itself is very challenging.
First off, Mr. Paparelli I found to be a really nice guy. However he was one of the hardest professors I have had. He gives optional homework which you pay for that adds 3 points to your final grade. No test reviews, which don't correlate with what's taught and are HARD. Highest grade on final was 75. One last thing. READ. THE. BOOK.
Will literally tell you, multiple times that half of the class will either fail or drop in the 1st week.. that basically explains his course in a whole. He explains ppts and provides study guides for quizzes and final exam. He's supper nice and is definitely available to help you. If you don't have a good science background, dont expect to do well.
Paparelli is a nice guy but just a bad teacher. You have pages of homework, you can never meet with him, never gives examples. If I had a dollar every time I heard "half of you will fail" or "think like a scientist " ... I'd be able to pay my school debt off.
Nice professor, but overall bad teacher. The whole semester i was in tutoring every single week because i did not understand anything. ;( He is open to help you, but you need to ask him. LOTS AND LOTS OF HOMEWORK!!!
All around pleasant individual, but he is monotonous and the homework is far too heavy. He will bump due dates until the very end of the semester and then during finals week, rail you with homework and quizzes days before, back to back. He will deduct points for being even a minute late. Would never recommend anything but a few beers with the guy
Don't take him unless you are gonna prioritize his class over any other class your taking. He gives a TON of homework that you have to pay for cause it's on a website plus your lab manual. His hw was crazy it was about 70 questions with 6 questions in each horrible! Save your money and don't take him. He's a nice person but a bad professor.
Good teacher! Homework is HEAVY! Test are easy if you know the material. only gives one example as the class is only about an hour long and then you have lab. Not much teaching time.
Chemistry in general is a difficult class. There is a lot of information to digest quickly. Professor Paparelli does an excellent job explaining the different concepts. Because of the nature of Chemistry expect to do a lot of homework.
Nice guy but rambles alot in lecture and then has to cram material. He is a very picky grader. Always talks about how class is hard and how poor the pass rate is but doesn't except responsibility when class is tested over material not covered and fails almost entirely as a whole. I recommend finding different prof unless you love self teaching.
Make sure you study your notes thoroughly if you want to pass the exams and quizzes. All the homework is extra credit BUT IT WILL HELP YOU PASS. He tends to stay on a topic for an unnecessary amount of time and then crams the lecture at the end of class. Ask for extra examples if you need because he only provides ONE example for each problem.
He is very difficult to learn from. You end up teaching yourself everything and be prepared for your exams and quizzes. Theyre very difficult and to understand. If you are able to teach yourself everything then this is a good class for you but I wouldnt recommend it.
This professor creates an environment in lab that makes students afraid to ask questions. The lab instructions are in writing and they are not up to date. The lab tech who helps the instructor mentioned he wished he could set these instructions on fire. This teacher can be rude and threatens some students about attendance and not others. BEWARE!!
