tons of notes and tests are pretty tough
Great teacher. I took him for three classes. Just love him!
Great teacher. Easy tests if you take notes.
Best History teacher ever! Even if you hate history he makes it come alive, with great stories. Dont worry about buying the book, it is all from the notes. If you study the notes you wil get an A. Offers extra credit. Very helpful if you have any question
Best teacher ever! Very clear and percise! Worth much motr money!
Very easy if you take notes as all test are from the lectures.
I hated the idea of taking US History 1301. This professor makes the class interesting in spite of all the notes we've been taken. He's clear and gives tips. I haven't made anything less than an A on a quiz so far.
I had Mr. Perkins, and he was a great teacher. I hate history, but he found a way to make it almost fun.
Awesome teacher! Makes the subject very interesting and fun. He is passionate about history and teaching. As long as you study the lecture notes your going to be fine.
Don't take him!!
Mr. Perkins is an awesome teacher! Take notes and listen to him and you'll be fine.
Best teacher ever, just takes notes of everything you can for the exception of the ones he says not to. Attend and pay attention, you'll be fine. His teaching is very clear and he is passionated for History professionally.
Great professor! I wasn't really interested about history until I got to his class. He's very help and makes you understand the events. He explains theam as if he was there, and makes you feel like you are there. Go to class, take notes, and just look over your notes after class. If you do that, you'll definately make an A because the quiz and
I did not like history before taking this class. Mr Perkins has sparked an interest in history that will last forever. Take all the notes and study them. Listen carefully in class and you will pass. His lectures will incorporate everything you need to know. Remember to write page numbers down as he lectures, this will also help you. Great man!
Mr.Perkins is a walking talking history book! This man knows his stuff and it's obvious that he loves what he is doing, and he wants you to be as passionate about studing History as he is. He has a kind of dry sense of humour that makes you laugh, And he has this beautiful MILLION DOLLAR SMILE! Study your notes and its an easy, easy A!Very nice man.
He's a great instructor, really passionate about what he teaches. Keeps the class interesting and fun. Take good notes, attend class, don't bother with the text and you'll do well.

If you have to take History 1301 and 1302 at TCC Southeast campus, TAKE JOHN PERKINS. I tried to take Hist. 1301 twice and dropped both time.(Thanks to a special someone who plays the banjo). Mr. Perkins is great. He makes class interesting and he puts smiley faces on your scantrons if you make good grades!
Mr. Perkins!!! Wow, he's one of the best history professor on this earth. HE is extremely good! He lives history. AND if you dont wanna buy a book...:) I had him both for 1301 and 1302
Great teacher! He knows his stuff! He is very clear and uses the overhead for notes. You dont really need your book. Im taking him for hist. 1301 and 1302. Take him if you get a chance!
Mr. Perkins is a top notch teacher, I am surprised that he is teaching at a junior college. He hardly ever looks at his notes; he is a human history book. If you get the chance, I highly recommend that you take one of his classes.
Perkins is a great teacher. His tests are not easy so you have to take very good notes and do not miss a class. If you write down everything he SAYS and his notes on the overhead you will do good. You will know history when you finish his class.
Mr. Perkins is, hands-down, the best teacher I have ever had!! He is a history genius and should be teaching at Harvard, not a community college. He is very witty and charming. I highly, highly recommend taking his class if you get the chance.
This is the greastest history teacher alive! I love the way he teaches and he knows his work sooo well!! His test are not easy, but if you take good notes, listen and dont miss class you are going to do fine. Highly recommended teacher!!!!
the best prof i have had so far!! i love going to his class!! he has alot of corney jokes but overall he is pretty funny and makes the material easy and fun to learn
I always look forward to his class. I could have skipped all my other classes that day but I wont miss his class. He just makes it fun to learn and to know. Its a lot of note taking but its helpful for test and quizzes.. I dont wanna say its an easy A but it can be with a little effort.
Very interesting. As long as you write down all on the overhead & try to write down everthing he says then you will make an A or B. Quizes aren't too hard as long as you reread over your notes a few times. Know battles and Acts. He's very nice if you are a good student, but if you DARE to LOOK at your cellphone he'll kick you out with a mean voice.
really good teacher
Best teacher ever. If you really study his notes you'll do fine, but this isn't a class you can skip and expect to pass. His notes are very long. Everyday is filled with important info. but if there was ever anything you didn't understand about history, you will after you take his class.
Mr. Perkins is fabulous! If you want a professor that is straight forward and teaches exactly from the notes, then Mr. Perkins is for you. He does give a lot of notes and quizes, but they are extremely easy. DO NOT BUY A BOOK! He's tests are straight forward and not tricky. I would recommend him to anyone. You must go to class. Easy "A".
This is easily the greatest history teacher on the planet! He is a history genius. Do yourself a huge favor and take his class, you will not be sorry. Oh, and he is so darn cute! I took him for 1301 and 1302. I only wish he taught more classes! He makes you want to get up and go to class, believe it or not. Truly awesome man!
he talks alot while you are taking notes, so alot of the explanation to what or why you are taking notes is cloudy, but he is super funny and he is on fire for history and it makes it more fun to learn when the teacher is in love with the subject.......he is a super nice guy, but dont let that fool you, he dont take no guff, BE ON TIME!!!!!
Awesome teacher!! Makes you interested in history if you can believe it or not. He loves it and gets the students excited about it. Quizzes and tests come right from the notes. No need for a book!!
Just call him "Dr." Perkins and that's that!
Great professor for serious students. A tape recorder will come in handy, because there a lot of notes. Just study them constantly and you’ll do great on quizzes/exams. Don’t expect to come into class and play with your cell phone, because he will kick you out.
Before starting this class, I had absolutely NO interest in history WHATSOEVER - I have completely changed my mind since then. He is easily the best professor I've ever had. He really makes history come alive. His lectures are interesting and entertaining; just make sure to take accurate/complete notes, and you'll do well on his quizzes and tests.
this is the best professor that has ever graced the earth. i use to hate history until i enrolled in his class. i am now majoring in history at UTA. Attend class every day and turn OFF your cell phone and you will be fine. He is such a great prof. i highly recommend him. A++++
Excellent Teacher, remember to TURN OFF your phone or devices that he said or else you will get kicked out of class. Pay attention in class and you'll do great. I dropped his class because I overloaded my schedule, but am planning to take him again.
Mr. Perkins is very passionate in his teaching. He is by far one of the best History teachers i've ever had. His tests and quizes are directly from his notes ( So take good notes). If you want an A you must work for it. His lectures are very interesting and never had a boring day in his class.
Mr. Perkins is very passionate in his teaching. He is by far one of the best History teachers i've ever had. His tests and quizes are directly from his notes ( So take good notes). If you want an A you must work for it. His lectures are very interesting and never had a boring day in his class.
Dr. Perkins has moved to the Northeast Campus but no matter where you live his class is definitely worth the drive!! He is the only teacher I have ever had that passionate about his job. If you take him for first history, I guarantee you'll be signing up for him for the second part of history!! Good Luck!
Simply the best professor any student could ever hope to have. He now teaches at the NE campus, leaving the SE campus a sad and dreary place, devoid of his sparkling personality. (Come back, Professor Perkins! Your students miss you!) To his new students at NE: take good notes, come to class every day, and turn your phone OFF before class!!
MOST AMAZING PROFESSOR TO GRACE THE EARTH! I have never had a professor make me anxious to go to class. I want to stay after & learn more! He's funny & absolutely amazing!!!!! His tests are so easy if you study. Always come to class. Be respectful & turn off your cell phone or he will kick you out, & I back him on that! He is 100% phenomenal. -Lori
He is the best teacher ever!! I never like history until i took his class. I always looked foward to going to class. I heard he moved to another campus, but he is the best!!
The best professor I had ever taken! He's clever and extremely intelligent. I looked forward to going to his class every time. He may be a great guy, but he can have difficult tests. He tries and succeeds to learn everyone's name. Pop quizzes are normal. All he asks of you is to study 20 minutes every night. And he drives a cute little convertible.
A great teacher, probably the only reason i would always go to school on my MWF. Taking the second half of hist with him.
JOHN PERKINS IS THE MOST AMAZING TEACHER IVE EVER HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. He actually made me excited to come to class. This man is very intelligent, and comes up with the best stories and information to tell us. You gotta keep up tho, he has tons of pop quizes, and his tests are hard. But ull never see history the same again...
Loves the Civil War, loves history. Both show very much, in good ways. Likes classes that have a personality more than the ones who look dead every morning. Don't take out a cell phone, as he will stop class.
he's hardcore and he lets you know that. quiz every other day, test are farely hard. not an easy a, and believe me i've tried. however, take this class and history doesn't seem so boring! i almost like it now. key to survival, take intense notes, even if its not on the overhead. tests mainly come from his notes as i'm making a b+ w/o a book
Best teacher i've ever had. Made the class very interesting. Take good notes. Go over them before going to class makes sure you Ace the quizes. Go over notes before the tests. You should Ace the tests, Not that hard. Take Good Notes. I got an A.
Proffesor Perkins is an excellent educator. His tests and quizes are directly from the notes, so there is no need for the textbook. Just remember to take detailed notes and keep your phone OFF!!
Mr. Perkins is my favorite teacher! I took him for 1301 and now I have him for 1302. All you have to do is study your notes frequently and you'll do fine on all the quizzes and tests. I was never interested in history until I took his class. I love his stories!!!
Great teacher, neat guy. COME TO CLASS, study your notes (which he GIVES you) and you'll pass with flying colors!
Great instructor. I wish I took other history classes from him. Take good notes, and go to class for a good grade. Don't come late or have your cell phone go off in class...you've been warned.
You learn a lot in this class. Just make sure you come to class and pay attention
Professor Perkins is awesome!! He knows so much and you can tell he is truly passionate about his work. He has a great sense of humor, and makes history very interesting. He gives you the notes that you need, BE sure to study them because they are key for passing the quizzes and tests! Definitely recommend him! he's wonderful!
Prof Perkins is a very humorous teacher. He'll definitely make you laugh and keep you interested throughout his lectures. His quizzes are very simple and go exactly with the notes... but his Tests were very hard for me so I passed with a C :(
he's amazing! he's so nice & i've learned so much. you need to come to class though! he gives a ton of quizzes, but they are super easy & go right along with his notes. but you can't make them up so be sure to go to class! & his exams aren't trick questions, so if you study your notes, you'll be good. i learn more from his lecture than the book!!
Mr. Perkins is the best history teacher I have ever had! He has such a passion for history that you can't help but listen to every word he says! He is constantly making little jokes here and it really helps when you need to remember things! I completely recommend him!
pretty freakin good at what he does, go to class, pay attention, take notes, study and you will do fine NO CELL PHONES!
He is far best the most intelligent instructor I ever had. He knows history very well. His course is challenging and easy to learn. Very well organized. Is kind and has a very great sense of humor.
Good: Extremely knowledgeable & good at teaching, you will learn a lot about many different aspects of US history up to 1865. A class to look forward to. Bad: the test's require an essay on a possible of numbered topic's
Mr. Perkins is one of the best teachers on any campus. His lectures are very interesting and I hated that I had to miss one of his lectures. He is not an easy A but it is obtainable. It is an easy B though, never cracked the book and rarely studied my notes (just reviewed before class) just went to his class and made a B.
Class may not be easy, but Professor Perkins is extremely nice and helpful. He treats you as a fellow adult and friend, and it helps you to act as such. The classroom environment is what you'd expect for college-- he sticks to the no food/cell phone rule. Great professor though, I'd recommend him hands down!
If you are a student who comes to class and doesn't mind a little preparation for tests, this is the class for you. Professor Perkins is a terrific teacher and makes class very enjoyable. I wish I could have taken him for 1302 as well!
i HATED history before this class but Prof. Perkins definitely made it very interesting and i never thought i would of looked forward to going to a history class and it excites me to say that i looked forward to his class everyday haha however you do have to work HARD to pass but just study your notes before class and you will be fine BEST TEACHER
Lectures the entire class. Will give reading articles as part of the test. Very serious about not being late/ cell phine in class. Test are after about evry chapter and can be hard if you are bad at taking notes.
He is awesome! I highly recommend him. If you come to class everyday and take down tedious notes, you will pass. I never touched my book even if he gives out page numbers to read. He is really passionate about history and his lectures are very interesting and never boring. GET HIM!
his class is not easy. Tests can get pretty hard, you have to study. Although he's funny and has a great sense of humor, his class is O.K.
TO FAST AND TO MUCH MATERIAL COVERED IN A DAY, IF YOUR NOT ONE OF THE ELITES, TUFF, NO TIME TO EXPLAIN.
I LOVED this professor. You have to take A LOT of notes and listen intently to his lectures, and studing is necessary to pass his tests. But the amount of passion he has for teaching and for history is what makes him so great. I never had any interest in history before and he completely turned that around.
He is a very good teacher. Obviously loves history. Take good notes and study and you will do well.
Great teacher! He is very passionate about history and definitely knows his stuff! Do not need textbook. If you take good notes and study, study, study them you can make an A.
LOVED HIM!!! I was not born in us so us hist always has been tough subject for me. but he made hist really interesting and fun. you have to go to class EVERYDAY. b/c he covers A LOT. HE IS REALLY CARING AND ALWAYS THERE TO HELP. but if you want A in his class, YOU HAVE TO TRY HARD, HE IS AWESOME BUT HIS CLASS IS NOT EASY!!
Take his class, but be prepared for lots of notes. I loved him. Everyone who takes him for one of the history classes always wants to take him again. DO NOT LET YOUR PHONE RING IN HIS CLASS! But he is extremely helpful and really knows his stuff. Test are multiple choice, short answer, and essay. go to class! No notes online!
he is so awesome! He even helped me with getting rolled into classes at the last minute!
Lots of notes. You WILL write the entire time you are in his class. He is very, very, very particular about your "behavior" in class. NO phone, NO laying your head down, NO talking, NO coming in late. He WILL call you out in front of the class or ask you to leave. At first, I really regretted taking the class. but you do learn a lot. tests are okay
Prof Perkins is my favorite teacher!!! He always accompanies lecture with pictures (wich is great for us visual folk). Don't let your phone ring, take notes and you will learn a lot from him. He uses a lot of books from his own collection and it makes it so interesting! <3
Just take him, you won't regret it. You will have to try, but it's not that hard to make an A. He is very much into teaching and makes learning fun.
Great teacher, hands down!
Dr. Perkins is a great professor. He is passionate and you will learn alot. Be prepared to work, and take lots of notes. Record his lectures, it will help. The on e complaint I would have, is that he only lets you do one extra credit assignment. I had to study as much for this course as I did A&P, a liitle much for a non-majors course.
Great teacher! Makes learning history interesting. Gives lots of notes. Record class if you can. He will help you if you need it. Don't take this class If you aren't serious about learning.
I love Mr Perkins! So interesting and knowledgeable. I wish I had taken him for 1301. If you actually want to LEARN and EARN a good grade but still have a good time, he's your guy! I love history and he made me love it even more. An inspiring prof. LOVED HIM.
I have a 3.87 gpa at TCC and have taken govt, hist, engl, all the hard stuff. This class was BY FAR the hardest. Everyday is just notes to copy then NO review whatsoever for tHe test. You have to study about 20 pages front and back of notes for test. I dropped because there was 0 chance of me getting an A. Not recommended if you care about GPA
To classify Mr. Perkins as an amazing professor would be an understatement. He lectures with humor and passion, knows each student by name, and is willing to help any way he can. To do well, take good notes, record the lectures, and add to your notes using the recording after each class to be prepared for pop quizzes and tests. Best professor ever.
He is very passionate about history, but sometimes his personal values get in the way of his teaching. He is very conservative, and I did not appreciate how his personal views impacted his interpretation and teaching of US history.
Great professor. He knows the ins and outs of history, and it is easy to follow him in class. As long as you take good notes and study them for tests and quizzes, you will do fine in his class. And all you have to do is copy his overhead and write in what you feel is needed. Best professor I ever had!
This man can put you to sleep very easily if you can't keep up with his lectures. His tests and quizzes have to be studied for. I dont recommend using him if your working. He wants his class to take up a couple hours of your day everyday. Nice guys, just super hard.
SLACKERS BEWARE!! HE IS AN EASY B BUT NOT AN EASY A..HE KNOWS HIS STUFF JUST PAY ATTENTION YOU WILL DO FINE..TAKE GOOD NOTES..TEST ARE MC AND A ESSAY QUESTION AT THE END OF EACH EXAM..TAKE GOOD NOTES AND YOU WILL DO FINE
Great teacher, show up to class take notes and study and you will be fine. Just don't make bets with him, you Will lose every time!
You MUST attend every single class and take good notes. And that's pretty much it. Very engaging professor. Very entertaining and informative. Puts up outlines to take notes with, but you must expend upon them based on the lecture. This was a GREAT class. Take it.
Must go to every class or you will miss something. Nearly impossible to get an A with pop quizes, and detailed test with no review. If your an A student you might want someone else or be ok with a B or C. Otherwise he is a good challenge and a very interesting lecture.
He is precise, wise, and insightful. Even if you could care less about history, you will learn something significant after leaving his class.
Come to class, study, and be ready for the quizzes and tests and you will do fine!
How do you cram centuries of events (and ideas) into six credit hours? With lots and lots of notes. I took Professor Perkins for 1301 and 1302, and my writing hand got TIRED! But it was an honor to be in his class, because he wasn't just teaching history -- he was teaching us how to survive and succeed as college students. Take him if you can/dare.
He is the most engaging teacher I have ever had. I'm surprised he doesn't teach at Harvard!
Great professor! Just go to class and take good notes. Record him if you have to. He's super knowledgable and it's evident he loves his job and his deparment, which makes his class all the more engagind. He's definitley one of TCC's best!!
Excellent teacher, knows his stuff and is hilarious. Makes history interesting, I don't need to take history 2, but I was so motivated to take it just to listen to him again. He is phenomenal.
My favorite professor i have ever taken, loves history, extremely knowledgeable, very helpful, hilarious, and very nice. Take him, you will not regret it.
Interesting stories told in class, crystal clear about what you need to study (hint: pretty much everything), and he was very fair about everything.
The lectures are interesting and entertaining, but since he covers a lot of material in one class you take numerous notes. You need to show up to class, but you will want to because he is never boring and cares that you are there. Teaches both 1301 and 1302 using the same textbook, but all tests are based off his lectures and quizzes which are easy
Mr. Perkins is an absolutely amazing professor. I looked forward to his lectures everyday and it was something else to see somebody so passionate about their job. I EARNED an A in this class, this is not a cramming class. An A is obtainable, but you need to write down EVERYTHING that comes out of this man's mouth. On essays, BE SPECIFIC. Trust me.
PERKIN'S IS THE BEST. He's a great professor and anyone who says otherwise probably failed his class for not doing their work or studying. Yes he gives quizzes, but they're only to help you. Just study the notes and you will be fine. You actually learn in his class, and his love for history made me interested in it and made me want to learn.
A wonderful teacher with mountains of knowledge. He brings history to a persons mind. YOU WILL LEARN A LOT FROM THIS PROFESSOR. TAKE HIM AND SEE THE WORLD
I've been to three universities, and Perkins is the best educator I have ever encountered. He is a clear, exciting, and helpful lecturer. I took him for 1301 and 1302, and I both cried and laughed to the point of tears. The class really was quite a thrill. I never opened the textbook and made an A. He does pop quizzes, but it's easy to keep up.
Prof. Perkins is by far the best professor I have ever had. His love for history really comes through in his teaching. He cares about his students and always knows everyone's names. The key to making a good grade in this class is to show up and take good notes! I didn't even open the book. If you don't take his class you are missing out!
Mr. Perkins is an excellent Professor. It isn't that often that you come across people who love their career, Mr. Perkins is passionate on teaching. I am sad that I'm withdrawing from his class due to poor studying habits. His teaching definitely shows that he is there for his students. He might seem to expect a lot but it's b/c he knows you can ;)
Professor Perkins is the best! He knows everyones name, is friendly, helpful, & interesting. I hardly ever had to use the book. Gives time to study before quizzes, has easy straight from the notes tests, & gives you essay questions for the test ahead of time. As long as you show up, copy the notes, & spend some time going over them you'll do fine.
Professor Perkins is the best. Helpful, available and friendly. Never homework other than studying for quizzes and tests. He makes history fun and I look forward to taking him for 1302!
Perkins is an awesome professor! His stories are very interesting and I can tell he loves what he is doing. His tests are pretty straight forward; as long as you go to class and pay attention you will do fine. I, personally, did not use my book. Everything you need for the tests you get from his lectures! All in all, awesome professor!
Best Professor Ever!!! His class is always a pleasure to attend!
Perkins is awesome. I never have enjoyed History but he makes me want to come to class!! Awesome Prof. take him and you will not regret it!
Perkins is an amazing professor. He makes you fall in love with history. Perkins makes the class fun and interesting. Also, when I was struggling with his quizzes, I visited him in his office and he gave me a lot of helpful tips. We still meet every week to makes sure I'm on the right path. He has a passion for teaching one doesn't often see.
Probably on the more stricter side of professors, but he is very passionate about history, and when learning a somewhat boring subject, that can be very crucial. It really comes down to recording him, writing down as much as possible, and just read. Its the same for any history class. He can be enjoyable, and his exams aren't too difficult.
Perkins is a wonderful professor! There are not many grades besides quizzes and exams, so be sure to keep those up. He truly does have a passion for history. I took him for 1301 and almost done with his 1302. He is awesome!
This guy is the best teacher at the Northeast Campus!!!
BEST PROFESSOR EVER!! He's funny and intelligent and really made learning History a pleasure. DEF RECOMMEND!!
This is my second semester taking Professor Perkins. I have enjoyed his class immensely! He makes US history even more interesting and relevant to us today. He has a good sense of humor always made me laugh.
I love his ckass! He is such a nice man and wonderfull professor I have ever had in tcc northeast. His quizzes helped me a lot studying for the exams, and the final was just tge kast test which is so nice of him. I will definely miss his class.
Professor Perkins is an excellent teacher. He won't let you talk or text during class, but you won't want to. I took History only because it was mandatory, but he made it my favorite class of the year!
Mr. Perkins made history come alive for me, so much so that I thought about making it my major. I think he is such a great teacher because he actually loves the subject that he teaches. It is not only his job, it's like a hobby of his as well. Love this man! I'd take him for every class if I could. Difficult but so worth what you'll walk away with!
I had a B+ in the class and I really wanted an A in the class because I have never gotten a B beforeHe would not let me do extra credit or anything to try and raise my grade. I was so close and still to this day he remains my only B. He tells great stories, but his tests are pretty difficult and the only grades you have are from quizzes and tests.
He is awesome! If I could stay at TCC and take him forever, I would! I love history, and he just made it 100x better! Make sure you study your notes because he loves pop quizzes. And tests come from the lectures! He's very animated and tells stories to keep you entertained! Just don't use your cell phone; he'll get very upset with you. Recommend!!!
Perkins is amazing! I've never been all that interested in History but his passion for the subject radiates and inspires you to give it a chance. Simply take the notes, respect him, and show up to class and you've got an easy A. He's hilarious and very approachable, a quality professor, if not the best at TCC.
Whether you love or hate history, you will always remember John Perkins as your favorite professor. He truly makes history come alive. He also makes a real effort to learn you name. A few semesters after taking his class he still acknowledges me by name if passing in the hall. Amazing!
LOOOOOVVVEEEE! Amazing professor, He makes History interesting. You will have to study for his quizzes & tests though.
I wish I had taken all of my history classes with Mr. Perkins! He is so nice and so passionate about what he does. The tests are easy if you study, and his lectures are far from boring.
The best history professor i've ever had!
Takes the time to get to know each student. A great lecturer and professor. Clearly outlines expectation. Test can be slightly difficult and have small essay section (that is provided in advance). There are regular popquizes, usually every other lecture, so be ready and prepared. Not much extra credit, but grade will reflect your effort.
Great Teacher!!! He really cares about his students and is willing to help if you ask.
Mr. Perkins is the best professor you could ever ask for! Teaches with passion and has a desire to teach his students and make them appreciate history! I wish he could teach all my classes. Test/quizzes are tough but if you pay attention and study you will do fine!
Dr. Perkins is the best college professor you could ever ask for. If you want to pass the class, take good notes and record his lecture. The tests are not so hard. You'll be fine if you prepare for the essays and review the notes after every lecture.
Prof Perkins, is very passionate about his subject and that rubs off on to his class. You MUST study, if you miss a day, good luck. You have to work for your grade and he doesn't believe in giving you a grade you didnt earn(if you get an 88, you aren't getting a 90). Great man and very inspiring. You won't regret taking this class.
Best History professor I've ever had!
Best professor I have ever had. This class is difficult and is for sure not an easy A, but I learned so much. He is a very caring teacher. You must work hard in this class. He gives pop quizzes almost every other day but they aren't that bad if you study, obviously. I recommend him!
Professor Perkins is very helpful. He will give you the option to get the book, but he does not require it; however, he will always give you the page numbers in the book that he bases his lectures on. To do well in his class, you MUST show up, you MUST take notes, and you MUST study. But he makes everything very interesting. 10/10, do recommend.
Hard class, study or you will fail, the best professor I've ever had, I got C but I thought it was a blow off class until after the first test.
It was a difficult class, if you dont show up every day it is almost impossible to make a decent grade. There are pop quizzes that are hard to get A's on. The tests are hard. He is a great professor though, he teaches very well.
I took both US History and Texas History ITV (online) 27 years ago. Not sure of which Text - but reading was mandatory! Prof Perkins was extremely interesting, added relevant anecdotes, was well organized helpful and professional. Students, even now gain from referring to notes from his class.
I'm in my 3rd semester at TCC and Prof Perkins has been by far my favorite teacher. He uses pictures, maps, videos, and his personal stories to make history come alive. Seriously the coolest guy at TCC. His exams aren't easy, but since he doesn't assign homework, so it leaves plenty of time to study your notes. Also doesn't make you buy the book.
Professor Perkins is incredibly thorough in his lectures and is funny and interesting. Come to class prepared to listen and take lots of notes. He gives pop quizzes every few classes but they are helpful in the end. Tests cover lots of material and he expects well written essays. I learned sooo much in his class though. Definitely worth the effort.
Professor Perkins is a great teacher, but his teaching style is not for me. I pay attention and take great notes, but somehow still bomb his tests. Pop quizzes every other class days (pop quizzes supposedly come from tests). I was very confident in the first test we took but I made a 55. His lectures are interesting, EVERYTHING comes from his mouth
Dr. Perkins is a phenomenal professor. His lectures may be long, but he makes them fun and easy to understand!
Professor Perkins is an amazing professor! His lectures are very thorough and quite interesting. I learned a lot from him. He gives out 20 pop quizzes throughout the semester so make sure you study and review your notes daily. Getting As and Bs on the pop quizzes helps boost your grade. The test is straight from his lecture.
I took this class before, and I will tell you this now. No study, No pass! The pop quizzes come straight from your notes, not your book. Also, if you have trouble passing, ask him for help! I was not doing good at first until I asked him how to pass. He is a very good professor because the book is not required for the quizzes.
Professor Perkins gives amazing lectures! He tells you the good information and backstories of all the historical figures so they come to life in his lectures. Reading isn't super important to pass, but make sure you study study study. Pop quizzes and tests come straight from the lectures. He'll help you if you need it, and he's just a great guy.
Loved taking his class. Lectures were very interesting and his own personal stories with the history made it easier to comprehend and more relatable. Definitely would take his class again.
Prof. Perkins is by far the BEST history Prof. EVER. He is awesome. Pop quizzes help you retain the info for the exams. Beware of the striped ties! He is more than a great teacher, he is a great guy too!! I will miss him immensly.
Dr. Perkins is literally the best teacher I've ever had. I love his stories and he's a great speaker. But if you are looking for that easy A, he's not the teacher for you. Never have out your phone. There are three exams with an essay- from memory. 10-15 pop-quizzes. Find a good spot the first day. You'll learn something in this class.
I took Dr. Perkins's honors class. I thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. He is a tough grader though, his average is a C, above average is a B and exceptional is an A. That puts most everyone in the high C or low B category. There are quizzes weekly that help with your grades. I would recommend because I really did learn from his class.
Professor Perkins is the best teacher ever! His lectures are very clear and he gives you 3 possible essay questions at the beginning of the unit then gives you only 1 on the test. Gives "pop quizzes" about every 2 days. You can record his lectures but if you follow his notes and what he says you'll be just fine. He gives great life lessons as well.
Mr. Perkins is a great teacher with lots of rich information. He is not a lenient grader but, he really wants to see his students succeed. He does what he does so that you will learn!! As with every teacher you will have to learn what they expect and then you will know exactly what to do. I'm looking forward to History 1302 with him also:)
Professor Perkins is INCREDIBLE. He's an excellent lecturer and an admirable person. I took him last semester, and he still calls me by name when I see him in the halls. I came out of his class loving history. That's the mark of a great teacher! Miss you, Mr. Perkins!!
Do not take anyone else for history. He gives the best lectures, is incredibly passionate about student success, always answers questions after class and is available during office hours. The textbook can be helpful if you learn that way, but everything you need is in the lecture. Pop quizzes are easy and prop up your grade.
Perkins is one of the only teachers to make me enjoy history. His lectures are funny and interesting, although he does still use an overhead projector. His notes are outlined and help you keep up with his lectures. Pop Quizzes saved my grade in this class!
Mr. Perkins is an excellent professor. His class and lectures were clear and to the point. He does give pop quizzes, but only because he wants you to be on your feet, and read/study the notes he gives you. Lecture course. Lets you record. You have to want to pass his course. I missed classes the very start of the semester and ruined my exam grades
If you get the chance to take him then do it! His lectures are extremely interesting. His class goes by really fast because of how into the lectures you get. You do have lots of pop quizzes so you have to look at your notes frequently and show up to class because the slides are not online. And watch out for the exam essay's with every test.
Mr. Perkins is a great professor, but this class isn't easy! You must take good notes and study thoroughly! He gives out several pop quizzes, so always be prepared, ALWAYS! Tests need to be taken seriously, they require an essay question. He does awesome lectures, it's never boring. He has a good sense of humor, but don't show up late!!!
Doctor Perkins is a wonderful professor! While his tests are difficult you should do fine if you take good notes and study prior to the exams. He's also a fantastic lecturer and I always looked forward to attending his class.
My favorite professor because he makes learning history easy and fun! He does give pop quizzes but they are relatively easy if you study and it makes the tests easier. Tests have essay questions but he tells you the possible promps before hand.
The couple of papers he assigns are a pain, since he really doesn't make the grading criteria clear. But other than that grumble, I liked his class, despite the difficulty.
Sweet. Hilarious. Old-school. Don't leave in the middle of class or be late. Pop quizzes can be your friend or enemy, study your notes. Spent too much time taking notes, couldn't even focus on material. Grades essays like an english professor so take them seriously. Do not recommend.
I took Perkins for both 1301 and 1302! He was my favorite professor at TCC. His lectures are amazing and will let students take audio recordings. He does give pop quizzes often so be sure to stay on top of studying your notes. If you take studying seriously, you'll pass this class with no problems.
Professor Perkins is amazing! He's funny, makes history interesting (a tough feat), and really cares about his students. He has lots of pop quizzes, so make sure every day before class you look over your notes. If you skip lecture, there's NO way you will pass, so make sure you go. Besides, his lectures are interesting, funny, and insightful!
Professor Perkins is hands down my favorite professor I've ever had! His tests highly depend on lectures so you must go to class if you want to pass. History is his passion and it shows. He is very funny and will use Forest Gump quotes whenever he can!
Dr. Perkins is an amazing professor! I took him twice! While he does make you work for your grade and gives a lot pop quizzes you really will enjoy his class! He makes History worth learning about!
