Project after group project. Hard grader. Would be great as an elementary school teacher. Very interested in what he teaches. Don't expect to even crack your bio book all year.
Hard, Lots of problem based learning and group projects, expects too much for a biol 101 class, sometimes treats students like they are children, did not feel like I learned alot after being in that class, did not jive with Biol lab
Difficult course, make sure you take notes! Is willing to help you out if you ask questions.
HARD class. He knows a lot about bio but isn't really good at explaining it if you don't understand. Tons of group work and papers. Expect to study hard.
I think he is extremely easy, offers lots of extra credit if you are willing to go to the study session, which are a BIG help for the test. He does make you do childish activities that reminded me of the Magic School bus, but they did help me remember.

This class can be difficult at times, but by no means is because of the professor. He does make you critically think and you will need to study alot to get a good grade, but the professor is more than willing to meet with you and provide extra assistance
A difficult class it can be, but study hard - take notes, read the book, do the study guides, do extra credit and hw, goto review sessions and you will do fine.
kinda nice guy, hard hard hard tests, not much extra credit, and somewhat boring lectures. he is helpful, but he doesn't present the material in an understandable way.

Only take this class if you love group work and group grading. A lot of work outside of class.
He is a good teacher over all and he really seems to like what hes doing. Tests can be challegeing but go to the reviews. They are a great help.
Very easy. Puts notes, study guides, and practice tests on Internet.
Terrible class. The entire class was group work not related to biology in the least. You will not learn anything, nor make a good grade.
I liked the class at first, then the real J. Peters reared his ugly head. I earned quite a bit of extra credit; but at the end of the semester he said that he wouldn't count it unless my grade was borderline.
His class for me was based on 5 papers, a mid-term, and a final both of which were very hard. Not interesting lectures, and papers are way too long. Find someone else!
Yes, this class has the ability to be easy, but the papers were terrible. He only like certain writing styles and picks his favorites. Exam questions are hard as hell.
This is certainly an interesting class. Most of it is group work, and your group is very important part of your grade. Get a good group. There is a lot of work, and I wouldn't recommend this class unless you don't have any other major ones.

If you don't like group work, don't take his class. He picks favorites and his grading system is really weird, so there's really no way to tell what your grade will be. Midterm and final are extremely difficult
I didnt' learn anything in this class. You learn nothing about the basics of biology so dont' plan on taking Biology 102. Course is Problem Based Learning so unless you're really studious and already are a genius at Biology. . .don't take this course.
Hey if you love group work get this man as for myself I got a C and count myself lucky I would not recommend to my worst enemy.
Lot of group work. starnge scratch off test, did not like. but overall pretty easy if you pay attion
I had Mr peters back in 1999, my very first biol class was a disaster. He shouldn't be teaching general biology. He definitely scares off a bunch of future doctors and scientists. You do learn alot, but you study like crazy--so take Frankis for 101/111
Really willing to help. Class is a lot of note taking, but if you go he's so easy to understand & you'll make a good grade. Cool scratch off test method, made it easy to make a good grade. He's the kind of teacher that's WANTS you to make an A or B+.
Enjoyed his teaching style. Test are pretty hard, but this class offers many other ways to keep up your grade. He is also very hot!!
I didn't like Dr. Peter's grading. If he didn't take the group grades into account so heavily, I would have recieved an A in his class. But because I was placed into a slacker group, I had to settle for a B. His hands on teaching approach was excellent.
Nice guy. I took him a couple of years ago. If you feel your tests or groupwork were misgraded, talk to him-- he listens. P.S. Evaluate who you sit next to on the first day, chances are in most classes you'll be stuck with them on projects.
He sucks, do not take this class unless you want to work in pairs in class, and not learn anything from the class discussion. All work is individual and you have to teach yourself.
he treats you like you are 3 yrs old. labs always run way over time so dont plan on doing anything else for the day. definately plays favorites. scratch off tests for multiple choice are a waste of time and he cant write an understandable question to save his life.made me want to drop out of school
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! lectures are always hard and its never clear what you are doing. he doesnt take the time to explain anything and just rushes through everything. test are scratch off... what a waste of time and boy are the harder than anything else
ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! By far the WORST teacher I've ever had. More statistics than ecology. Teaches nothing, expects unbelievable detail on exams which are filled with confusing questions. Go to his office to fight- you might get some credit. Labs go an hour over, take 10hr to write & youll still fail
By far the worst teacher that I had my whole college career! I had him for Biology 111 in 1999 during my freshman year. His tests are way too complex and confusing. When you ask questions, he comes off completeley arrogant and condescending. Do NOT take this class...ask anybody who's had him..
I really liked his teaching style. The power-point presentations and online notes really helped me understand Biology, and I am NOT a science person. The scratch-off tests are really great. If you answer the questions on the study guides, it really helps you on the tests. Really good class.
the man is horrible. He is not helpful, you ask him questions and he makes you feel like a moron. One more fact, the class average was a 72, a 72 for a 101 class; def not cool
This man wasn't really all that great. It was sposed to be easy since it is for non majors but it wasn't. Taught it like it was a 200 level class. The book doesnt help and he is no help outside of class unless you are one of his upper level students. AVOID!!!

Most of his notes come from the BIO111 textbook, and his online lecture notes make no sense - his lectures are confusing and he asks test questions that easily could have more than one answer. Complete **** who doesn't teach well at all!
This class was only hard if you didn't show up. When you asked questions he tried to make you THINK and figure it out yourself. . which most ppl. don't care to do. But, I think he's a great professor and he knows a lot. I would definitely take him again.
Here's the trick: Go to the study sessions, do the study guides, READ the 111 textbook...essentially sacrifice all your time to Biology... and you might get a B.
should not be teaching this class! if u went to his office and debated the wrong answers on your test u might get xtra credit but even if someone proves there is another answer to the question no one else gets credit for it! grrr...soured me on a class i was really excited about.
mid-semester report: If you're planning on taking Peters, just know that you will learn alot if you put in alot of effort. At start of semester we are seperated into teams; classes involve alot of talking/ thinking. Come to class prepared and you will learn alot. Tests- MC.
This man is the devil and treats you like you're in 4th grade. Puts you into "teams" where you do team "think and share" questions. Tests are pretty ambiguous. Avoid him to save your self-respect.
we have tests on chapters he hasnt aught. Like we will havea test on chapters 5 thru 12 and he hasnt even gotten to chapter nine yet and we still have the test.
In my opinion..Worst teacher at cofc and worst man in sc. I detest this man with all my heart and sincerly hope he gets fired some day soon so no one else has to suffer through his bullsh*t! Avoid, avoid, avoid!
Definatly not a class that you can just show up at and do well by just listening. You need to read every chapter even though he already "taught" it in class bc his test questions are really detailed. Some chapters he doesnt even teach in class and you have to learn by yourself completely.
DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR THIS CLASS!! His tests are absolutely ridiculous. Questions mostly are ambiguous and sometimes even has wrong information. He cannot teach to save his life. Avoid him or your grade will suffer tremendously and you will have wasted your time.
Very educated guy, but NOT a good teacher. Make sure to double-check the grades he gives you (since he doesn't return ANYTHING!) they are often mis-calculated and not in your favor. Study your butt off for tests. You'll still make a B on them, but he usually curves.
Just finished his final. I'm almost certain that he is descended from Satan. somehow.
Entirely too much work to study for an intro class. When he gets behind he rushes the material and everything get bunched together. Tests are a killer. Would recommend NOT taking him for this class.
Yes, you will have to read the chapters on your own. But his class will teach you biology, and help you develop critical thinking skills. Not a cake walk, but A's are possible if you put the time into it.

Horrible teaching style. I haven't even had him for a month yet, and I already hate him. He teaches college students as if he were teaching 6th graders. For the most part he's nice, but at times he can be somewhat rude, and he is extraordinarily disorganized. He never lectures, and expects you to keep up with the book all on your own.
Waiting for him to get sued by "Magic Schoolbus" for our in-class activities. The scratch-off tests kick ass!!!
I loathe this man. He doesn't each at all, and his expectations of students in an intro course seem to be what one would expect from a Biology major. Avoid this guy.
He's grown on me. He has a different teaching style, but we learn a lot about things actually going on in the world. His test are impossible though.
Very difficult, tests are impossible, his lectures are extremely boring! But no attendance policy. Only two tests the entire semester. There is alot of group work and quizzes. He is a good man but not a good intro teacher.
Peters is a joke. He's obsessed with technology. His notes last forever and his tests are impossible. Lots of group work that never gets you anywhere. The semester's almost over and I've learned next to nothing. AVOID HIM.
crazy...hard to get use to his method of teaching but not tons of work....exams IMPOSSIBLE....take him at your own risk!
I'm very studious and I had problems just trying to keep up with what was currently going on in class. Exams are impossible and are like 5x in depth for application use. Avoid. Very nice man but teaching style is for high school bio not for college bio non-majors. If you like real-world problems and figuring them out, take him. Otherwise avoid!
hated his style at first, but really grew to enjoy it. he gives you the notes online, so it's not a problem. exams are not hard, people are just stupid, and im not a genius. If you're interested, he's a good teacher and you can learn alot.
I dropped this class because this guy had such a bad attitude. He always seemed like he was compensating for something. He would be rude just to be rude and it was obvious that he looked down on students just because they are students. I came (and pay a lot of money) to this school to learn, not to get sucked into some kind of weird standoff.
don't take this class!! u would think that u came to learn about biology... nope, you have to learn about problems in the world, yeah, sounds interesting but NOT! very unclear with what he wants. makes you write research papers, like an english course, then have debates.
If I wasn't taking a full load and had more time and energy to devote to this class, I might like it. That said, I HATE IT. My 300 level Philosophy classes are going more smoothly. I consider myself a smart girl- but this class is ridiculous. I like being challenged but his expectations for a 102 class are ABSURD. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID!
I have completed 3 yrs of college and Peters was by far the worst professor I have ever had. For a gen ed course, not to mention BIO, he was incredibly unclear, unfair, and difficult. He asked for way too much of his students and didn't teach us anything. His whole idea of "problem based learning" is not how biology should be approached DO NOT TAKE
He teaches about "real world issues" that you probably wont care about..like rabbits in New Zealand. He gives quizes that you dont have enough time to complete and you have to read a lot to possibly pass them. Only 2 tests, he gives papers like an english class for each "problem." For a required class he is a bad teacher. pick someone easier
If you take this class, I hope you love group work! EVERYTHING is done in groups! He made us do stupid middle school learning games, such as taking a "field trip" to the area behind the gym and pretending we are a microscopic cell. The only thing good about the class were the scratch off tests, but again, those are done in groups.
Peters teaches his class in a much different way than any professor. at the beginning I couldnt stand his class because I wasnt used to his way of teaching, but now that I am I love it. It is the first class where I really feel like I know something about the topic and could research or discuss about it. Very good for science majors
At midterms I was ready to drop this class. I am so glad I didn't. He does require a lot of critical thinking from his students and his tests can be difficult, but you learn A LOT in his class. (I can talk about biology topics now and not sound like an idiot.) If you want a challenge, take his class. If you want an easy A, take someone else.
RUN WHILE YOU CAN!! Do not take him! you don't learn ANYTHING about biology. He fills your head with his presumptious ideas about life and teaches you NOTHING about biology. however, he puts all that stuff on his test so read the book and learn everything yourself. don't expect any help. DO NOT TAKE HIM. WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD...EVER
if you like learning about biology do not take this class. if you like teaching yourself through a text book this one is for you
i took him for 101 and hated it at first, but after i got used to his teaching method, i liked it, so i took him for 102 too. he relates biology to real life problems, so it's easy to understand. you're in a group all semester, so it's important to be in class and help each other. i made a much higher grade in 102 than i did in 101.
Horrible teacher- no help, does not talk about biology as it is used in the book- only realy life, which does not help for the test.
Professor Peters is absolutely****ndous. He actually said "I am not going to teach you, you'll do that yourself as I guide you" on the 1st day of class. He'll assign 5 chapters of reading for hw and then never mention it except on tests, which are done with lottery tickets (don't ask). He tries to be unique, and only ends up being impossible.
He's a very innovative teacher, I liked him a lot and I AM NOT big on biology. However, he takes biology and relates it to the real world. We get to work in groups which is cool and I really liked the scratch off tests, you know your grade immediatly. Take him!
HATE THE WAY HE TEACHES!!! he tells you to read the book for homework and then you get to class and you dont even talk about what you read, so if you dont understand the reading you are basically screwed. he will also ask the class questions and tell them to use their "clicker" to c what the whole class thinks then he wont tell you the right answer
the worst way one can ever teach a class. uses clickers which are useless and tym waste.asks to read the textbook but never explains stuff well.so if u dont understand anything u r screwed for the tests.tests are those scratch offs. in which u really freak out n eventually mess up the test.i struggled thru his class n hated it soooo much!!!
very different than a normal bio class. he uses problems from the real world but you dont feel lik e youre learning any biology at all. he assigns a lot of papers and he grades them very weirdly. tests are related to bio but theyre scratch off. the only way i did well on those was from going to study sessions. i would not take him again
This is one class that I dreaded going to. He never explained ANYthing, and expected you to already be a bio expert. You MUST take AP bio in highschool before coming into this class, which I was not told until a month into the class. I hated the problem based learning. If you're a bio major...just stick with 111! NOT 151!
Did not enjoy this class. If you take him, be prepared to teach yourself the material. He assigns tons of reading for homework and in class you mostly work in groups so he doesn't have to teach. Every topic is related to a real world problem which are barely related to the readings. Attendance is mandatory. Lots of work and very difficult.
I was very worried about taking this class after reading the comments on ratemyprofessor. The "teaching" style is hard to get used to at first since it involves very little instruction. Work hard on papers, ask for help during office hrs, do study guides, & go to study sessions. I got an "A" and I'm taking Peters again next semester.
He doesn't actually teach anything, he never tells you if you're right or wrong, he is incredibly annoying
Makes me hate Bio and I generally LOVE the sciences. You learn very few traditional Bio concepts, but instead "apply" them, which I like, but he doesn't TEACH. A lot of minor papers and quizzes, hard tests but not unmanageable.
He tries to teach backwards, we got presented with problems, then we use our knowledge of biology to solve it for real-world applications. But, most of us hadn't had bio since 9th, 10th, or 11th grade. He may be great at teaching higher level courses but not intro stuff. Scratch off tests are horrible. He also always answers a ? with a ?
Get ready to be a guinea pig. He will test his theories about education on you, and your grade will suffer because they are not very good theories. He does not believe in teaching fundamentals, and he oversimplifies biological concepts (this may sound easy, but it is actually extremely confusing). It might be better to take Bio 111.
Style of teaching is very effective if you already know the material very well ( if you come into this class having taken AP Biology etc.) Very very helpful if you bother to go to his office hours- will sit you down and explain everything. Tests are scratch off so if you are wrong he lets you scratch again for partial. No other teachers do that.
Honestly, get out while you can. His teaching methods are all over the place & you are pretty much expected to teach yourself. Not a big deal until you see how many assignments there are. Expect to do several complicated papers & projects. Not a good class to juggle with an already difficult schedule as you will be working constantly to keep up.
This is not a good class if you have a heavy schedule. It is easy but very time consuming, which can hurt your other classes that you need to study for. There were a lot of times non-mandatory calc or organic homework went undone because there was mandatory busy work in this class. Not good. Otherwise he's a good teacher, just a ton of work.
NOT the best teacher. Not as bad as most people make him out to be, but he uses abstract concepts to get the point across. Not helpful with questions.
I never taught I would hate a biology class so much because I simply love biology. But I would say this professor does magic...I despise the class and his teaching methods. The assignments are long and ridiculously useless. Things are posted everywhere in the website and often instructions are unclear and contradicting. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!
This is the worst professer I've ever had. I've had much more difficult classes so it isn't the subject, it's Dr. P. It's impossible to keep up 100% with other classes based on the amount of useless but mandantory assignments you will receive in here, none of which really help you to learn much about the subjects.
Dr. Peters take a different approach that is very successful. The assignments involve critical thinking and you learn about real life things that you would never know about if it wasn't for him. It is biology, but do not think you can get away simply with memorizing the book. Assignments are somewhat lengthy and complex, but well worth it.
Regarding comments below; Of the real life concepts, two are interesting, but we didn't learn anything concrete about any of it. It's just tons of vague research & complicated papers. I was really interested in some of the topics only to be let down by how little we REALLY learned. I wish I'd have taken someone else. Not terrible, but not worth it.
Dr. Peters is not typical teacher. No memorization is involved in his teaching style, it's all about discovering answers, not having them given to you for you to repeat on a test later. Having said that, he makes this class harder and more time consuming than it needs to be. Not good for average or slacker students.
I've often wondered whether I would take this class again if given the chance. Early on in the semester, his work kept piling up and was very difficult! Now, I love it. The concepts are the most important part, and they'll stick with me. Lots of group work was a minus, but he really wanted you to understand - which is the whole point.
You will hate yourself for taking this class when you get the syllabus. You will continue to hate yourself until about midterms. It starts to lighten up about then. Way too involved for a 200 level class but very interesting. Get a good group, it makes all the difference. Skip it if you have a full schedule. Tons of outside work. Tons.
This class is mostly group work..get a good group and you are set...bad one and well its gonna be a long semester. Excessive outside work that is rarely looked over in class but overall the class is pretty easy. Come to class, try to stay awake (lol) and you should do fine. Oh btw only 2 tests and 1 final so study hard.
Dr. Peters is really great unique teacher! He teaches concept and uses problem-posing and discussion based learning techniques this way no memorization is necessary-you really learn big concepts. Overwhelming at first but if your interested in biology you learn a lot and it's not boring!
Do NOT take this class!! He is extremely unclear. I reconsidered my major after taking this course. Pretty much half our class dropped out half way into the semester, I wish i did the first day. Honestly worst class of my entire life
Dr. Peters is somewhat difficult to get used to but once you understand his system you will do well. He requires participation by every student and this class is intensive. However, what you learn in this class will stick with you. If you actively participate in class you will hardly have to study for the exams which are largely discussion based.
Dr. Peters is an amazing professor. He single-handedly made me sure i wanted to be a bio major. He is passionate and super intelligent and clear. You have to put some effort in during class, but you wont need to study hard to get an A.
Respectfully, the worst professor I have ever had. He is unnecessarily hard and has this whole problem-based learning where he basically asks you to teach yourself. He pushes his evolutionary beliefs on you. He is unclear as to what he wants. He is downright rude and will literally kick you out of office hours. Nothing makes me more angry than him.
He is a horrible teacher if you can even call him that. His class will teach you nothing besides the fact that you can never get a good grade because he expects you to know information he never teaches or is that available through his texts. This class will easily ruin your gpa and take up more time in hard graded busy work than is ever needed.
Just flat out terrible. He is a cynical man who is oblivious to any efforts you are trying to make to succeed and will do nothing to help you. The worst teacher I have had at the College of Charleston, hands down.
First thing you should know is that he really likes to focus on "problem based learning" i.e. figuring it out yourself. This is great until you can't figure it out on your own and is still confusing after you ask him for help. Second, the test are brutal. The highest grade in the class on our first test was 72. If you have to, take him.
Overall a smart, nice and informative professor. A lot of emphasis on team work, and relevance to life. sometimes when he makes us talk about answers with our team, we don't exactly understand the right answer afterward. but if you pay attn to what he says and the points he's trying to get across, you'll do fine. very passionate and educated on bio
You don't really learn the material in class. He is way too much of a harsh grader on the papers he makes you do and these papers will ruin your whole grade in the class no matter how hard you worked on the paper. For minor issues in the assignments, he takes off 50 points so you fail the paper(which is more than 12 ur grade) and therefore do bad.
I dreaded going to this class. The tests are extremely tough due to the wording being ridiculously confusing. You basically do case studies and if you don't write what he wants you to he'll give you a horrible grade. He never fully answers questions and makes you feel dumb for asking them in the first place.
Especially on papers, you will struggle to do well. In one instance, the prompt was switched without students' knowledge, and he generally grades terribly. My final paper was over 4 pages long when others in the class had 2 page long papers, and much was taken off because my paper "lacked comprehensiveness.". . . . Right.
Dr. Peters is a great professor if you are interested in Biology. He lectures on cool stuff going on in the field right now, and assigns some really interesting podcasts to listen to. His tests are multiple choice but they are not easy - you have to know the nuances of the material. Don't skip class- he goes over most test material on the quizzes.
he grades super tough and will lecture for 3 weeks on something that is not covered in the test. you have to work for your own grade. DO THE READINGS and go to SI!!
The lectures that he gives have nothing to do with the exams, which are multiple choice and pretty hard. I enjoyed writing scientific articles about our 4 different topics that we explored, but otherwise, I would not take him again if I had the chance. Great guy, confusing teacher. Dr. in experimental education so the students are experiments.
Almost never gives lectures, instead he just kind of rambles on in class on a loosely based tangent. I learned 100% out of the textbook. He also never directly answers questions, so no ones ever sure what the answer is supposed to be. You can tell he knows the material well, his teaching style is just very confusing.
Knows what he's doing but will not help or answer questions.
Peters grades essays really tough. It is very hard to get above a B on your first essay, I though I'd get an A+ and got a B-. His tests are also extremely hard because for some reason he thinks intro to bio means experts. One thing he does do is gives extra credit in different forms:curves tests, does test corrections and throws out questions.
He is great. His lecture is detailed and supported with figures from the book. He gives his own note and the tests are based on the notes.
HE DOES NOT TEACH AT ALL! DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! YOU WILL NOT GO OVER MATERIAL THAT YOU READ FROM THE BOOK! It has been almost a month into the semester and he has not taught anything at all. Avoid him at all costs
Dr. Peters is one of the worst professors I have ever had, ever. His "progress reports" and quizzes have questions that are so densely worded and have such similar answers that it is almost impossible to do well. He expects you to remember things with Ph.D levels of knowledge and accuracy and is a very tough paper grader as well. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Do not take him. His class is ridiculously hard and if your opinion doesn't match with his on papers or class discussions, you will easily get an unsatisfacting grade. His tests don't match up with anything discussed in class. He is a completely difficult professor. I have the worst grade in there that I have had in College thus far.
He's just not a good teacher. The essays are incredibly tough, if you don't agree with him, you'll get a bad grade. His tests are horrible. He doesn't post notes online. He spent half the semester on evolution and then crammed everything else, 2 whole lessons mind you, in in like 2-3 weeks. Makes you work in groups. Would not recommend.
Dr. Peters obviously cares about biology but it doesn't seem like he cares about teaching. His lectures are sleep provoking at best and if your opinion does not match his then you won't pass. He gives more papers than tests and grades them very strictly. He should be in the field and not in the class room
His criteria are not particularly clear for most of his projects. He answers your question with a question. Lectures are hard to write notes for. Grading is extremely hard. Tests cover a lot of concepts and most aren't even in the textbook. Really bad teacher.
I absolutely hated this professor. I wrote a 5 page paper for him and he did not even grade it because it "did not meet his standards for a passing grade". His teaching techniques are confusing and nontraditional. WOULD NEVER TAKE AGAIN!
Dr. Peters makes sure you throughly understand BIO211. There are 2 papers (5pg & 2pg, doable) & 4 tests. If you "master" the topics throughout the year on his tests/quizzes, you won't see it on the final. This helps A LOT. He also offers partial credit if you go into office hours. He is super helpful if you're willing to work for a good grade.
Dr. Peters cares deeply about Biology and loves what he teaches, however he is not successful in conveying information to students. He grades far too harshly and is rarely accessible outside of class. The entire semester is spent in group work, hopefully you get paired with people you are easily able to get along with.
Dr. Peters is an amazing professor. Sure, hes harsh, but it is harsh in a good way. He wants you to succeed in the class and gives you MULTIPLE chances to do so. You are tested on the material until you master the concept. I loved this way of grading. It gives you a chance to learn, rather than stress over a grade. I highly recommended.
Professor Peters was my assigned teacher but he had another professor from a different course teach our class. he's one of the smart guys that answers questions with questions. he writes the textbook that you have to be him to understand.
Professor Peters is okay, kinda goes into boring tangents. Beware: he will put you in groups for the entire semester, so be ready. Assigns a crap ton of work in a short period of time, loves to do quiz assignments that make you feel like a moron.
He manages the course but does not teach any of the lab sections. The amount of material he expects freshmen to know is outrageous. Crams way too much content into a single lab meeting, and expects students to be able to "ask questions" about concepts they've never learned about before.
Professor Peters is very passionate and his lectures are always interesting. He is a tough grader, but gives great feedback and where to find the topics to understand them better. His teaching style is very engaging and, personally, the best teaching style I've seen so far. There are field trips and chances to earn extra credit. I loved him!
The worst professor I have ever had, anyone would be better than taking this professor. His class will probably drop my GPA. He doesn't help and tests you on nothing he has talk about. Like other people have said, if you don't agree with his opinion, he will give you a terrible grade. I didn't listen to other students, and I really wish I did.
DO NOT TAKE THIS HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!! Other professors have told me they are not a fan of him. People are lying saying that he is a good professor. I have all A's and B's in my other classes. I put the most effort in his class and he is my worst grade. Trust. Do not take.
The only way to do good in this class is to pay attention to his lectures and focus on understanding the importance of the concepts he discuss. Lots of opportunity for extra credit and revisions.
I'm in the lab right now and my TA is amazing, but always complains about Peter's. He has strict rules and doesn't teach at all!
This professor's lectures are engaging, but the class is quite challenging. Stay on top of the work, utilize the textbook and extra credit opportunities. unstuck study was a lifesaver for exam prep.
Just don't take him. Trust. In 211, he talks about one thing for the entire hour and fifteen minutes. Also, I spent 5 hours on homework for his class yesterday to come in and get a 40 on my iRAT. Like I have an A in chemistry rn and spend less time in that.
Just don't take him. He wants you to learn from textbook and then take quiz's every class with no direction. He is like nice but don't do it to yourself. I do all the homework and am still getting awful grades.
Having to listen to John Peters drone on about the same things over and over again, for five hours every week (lectures and 3 hour long discussion)should be considered a form of psychological torture. Lectures are meaningless, the only way to learn in this class is by teaching yourself everything at home, which is difficult on top of other classes
He just brought up an equation, 100 x ln2/% rate of growth per unit time and said "This is so easy but somehow students manage to mess it up and blank" then had to ask someone what 70/5 was. Bffr. He is evil any other teacher would be better.
He doesn't tell u things till the class after. I spent 3 hours collecting data for him to tell us we were measuring the wrong thing when he cleared our methods. He wasted 3 hours an expects you to spend tons of time outside of class to do it. + He just wants to hear himself talk.
Dr. Peters can be really boring, but he is a good prof who genuinely wants you to understand his content. There's a maybe 1 homework every other week that will take me 4 hours, which is pretty annoying, but not that bad. The content is easy, he gives you MULTIPLE attempts to "master" concepts which is very helpful. Really, he's a great prof.
I didn't use the textbook, just pay attention in lectures and use his study guides (which r great). Lots of collaboration and you have to present a project to him at the end of the semester, if that's smth u want to avoid . Overall, his test lets you get points on questions you may have missed on quizzes/RATS and there are a few long assignments.
