Nice guy, but tough with grading
Awsome teacher. He is obligated in making you understand the subject. He is also very flexible as far as any issues or concerns you might have. He tells you what to study and what is important to understand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
good professor. teaches in a way that makes subject easy to understand. is willing to really work with students. very personable.
Make sure you attend class, somehow manages to keep track of attendence. Very clear and gets to the point. Gives real life examples.
Lectures so fast that you need to read the textbook. Always go to the class that he goes over the homeworks and definitely do the homework. Hes really good at meeting one on one and getting back to emails. Uses a major curve, but chastises the class that he "has" to.
He is the man. He is very nice and is not out to get you. Tells you exactly what is on tests/quizzes and never tries to trick you. You don't have to go to class but i would suggest going.
Petosa is one of the better accounting professors at SU. He knows his stuff, has real world examples and is able to teach it well. Homework is optional. Tests aren't bad and he'll offer retakes if the majority of class does poorly.
Petosa's class can be boring but he's pretty good at teaching. He never takes attendance. Some classes you'll only go over homework, so if you don't do the homework there's no point in going and it doesn't matter if you show up. Pretty easy grader. Always offers extra credit
As long as you do your homework and go to class, you'll understand the material. He drops your two lowest quiz scores and offers extra credit at the end of the semester. He's a really nice guy.
Great Professor. Never try to memorized how the textbook do the problems if you do you will not to do well in the class because he have a way of writing the quizzes and tests problem weird so do memorize. Try your best to understand the problems. The class can be a little boring but he tries to make it fun. Study and do most of the HW problems.

I love this guy! A Great Professor.
FABULOUS! I will take future classes with this prof

Good Professor!Organize class very effectively and his HW problems do help prepare for the quiz and exams~Always explain things to you clearly
awesome professor! really smart and fun. you dont have to attend class but you should. exams are manageable
I thought his class was...easy to understand but when it comes to his exams, it was pretty hard, long, and not able to finish within the 1hour and 20mins. he says if you paid attn in class you will not have any problems, but sometimes you just need time to stop and think but...with his long exams you just have to keep going..
AN AWESOME PROFESSOR!
He's a great guy. Definitely not the easiet, but if you work for it, it's not that hard. Book is needed. I would highly reccomend this fine man for a professor.
He's an awesome professor. A little tough on the work, but he's fair. Great humor, calm and super charming! Has a lot more practical skills to offer than just academic responses.
great teacher, great personality, and you would learn a lot so recommended for all accounting majors. but requires effort and a lot of reading.
one of the smartest and down to earth professor i ever had. take him if you want to learn accounting the right way!
Class is fairly easy, but tests can be tricky at times. Really wants you to know the material inside and out. Highly recommended
He is a great professor, very helpful and wants his students to learn.
One of the most charming and down-to-earth professors I've ever had! Can be intimidating at first as his tests can be tricky and challenging but he does curve it in the end. He's very fair when it comes to grading. As long as you do the homework and pay attention in class, you should be golden!
Hard teacher but useful if you want to learn. Nice and flexible at the time to evaluate.Test required of apply knowledges and are trick
Petosa is an amazing professor. He is the reason I am an accounting major, class is hard but he really makes you understand the concepts instead of just memorizing info.
Much different than ACC151. Class is extremely boring and useless. Better be good at multiple choice tests.
hard. must be proactively studying or you will be lost period.
had petosa for acc252 soph year and last fall semester as a senior in eee451. he is my favorite professor. he adds real value to the class based upon his personal experiences. moreover, he tries hard to help students learn the material. granted, he is a tough grader, but the rewards are worth it. he will help you post class with recs or job advice.
The class is definitely challenging. You really have to be studying in order to do well. If you're struggling, meet with him, the TA, or even a tutor to make sure you understand the concepts. He is really into making sure students are getting the concepts not just memorizing homework assignments. Good luck.
Unreal guy. Excellent teacher and definitely keeps the class alive with his humorous personality. If you study for the quizzes, you'll do fine on them. Also, if you put in quality time studying for the quizzes, the exams end up being review. You will learn useful material from this professor.
Petosa is awesome, yes it is a hard class but he is an awesome teacher. Get to know him, he is an great teacher to know. Class is hard, although weekly quizzes are mostly easy underhands. Tests are fairly difficulty in the fact that they are a little different from the practice problems because he makes you apply what you know.
Great Professor! Is very interested in making sure you actually understand the material. Best Whitman professor i've had. Hope to take him again
Prof. Petosa is an excellent instructor! I really loved his class - he kept the atmosphere fun and made the material easy to digest. Some assignments were challenging, but I really learned a lot. Absolutely recommend.
You just can't hate him even if you're not doing so well. Amazing professor and amazing guy. You do have to try hard and really study for exams, but weekly quizzes help a lot and enhance your understanding of the material. Actually makes you apply what you learn in class instead of memorizing. Will be taking him again for ACC 252!
Instead of teaching, he makes you learn through it all by yourself. Then you turn in your papers and he goes over it. It gives the experienced kids the advantage grade wise but he factors that in.
This was a very hard class, yet rewarding. He wants to make sure students actually learn. Curves exams greatly. Nice professor with great stories. Able to explain material well. If you take him, be warned that you will have to do a lot of work in order to do well.
I had him for 151 and 252. He's an amazing guy! He's the reason I decided to do a double major in Accounting. Granted, you have to do your part and try in the class, but you learn so much from him. Highly recommended!
took him freshman year and took eee w him senior year. one of my favorite prof in whitman. super awesome and makes lectures alive. he's a tough grader BUT as long as you show that you tried, he takes it into consideration. he's always confident when he speaks, know his material, has the experience, great prof.!
He was extremely helpful to me throughout the semester, and I respect him a lot.
Great judge and business stories. Also, he's really nice. However, he's VERY partisan (Republican, to be specific).
He was overall a great teacher and I will try to take him again every chance that I can get. He is interesting and tells a lot of good stories that relate to business and makes you want to get involved and participate. I recommend taking him if you can.
Great guy. He is a very accomplished professional and has a lot to offer no matter what class he is teaching. He also loves to fill his classes with court stories that for the most part tie in pretty well with the material. He's a great person a talk to and an even better one to get to know.
Amazing teacher, he's such a great and passionate guy. Not the easiest teacher but if you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine. He really cares about all his students so if you need help go and talk to him.
Petosa is a great guy. He really cares about his subject and his students. Make sure to participate because he is great to have as a networking connection. Overall wonderful guy. Would definitely take another class with him.
He's definitely my favorite professor. Let's be real. He's a man of many wonders and his class isn't an easy A. He teach's you that if you work hard, you'll earn the reward. Best housemaster for the Adams house. Petosa is a teacher that you'd really want.
Great Professor. Gotta work for the grade
Professor Petosa is absolutely amazing. He tells hilarious stories and is really passionate about what he does. He is a tough grader, but it is because he wants his students to really learn the material. His class was so entertaining, I looked forward to it a lot.
I loved Professor Petosa. He's a talented individual with a lot to pass on to his students. Show up to class, participate, take notes, focus, and work hard and you'll do good.
I enjoyed Professor Petosa's class. I just am not a fan of taxation. If you pout in the work you will pass.
HE IS AWESOME. It's a tough class, but he makes it fun. He is one of if not the most respected professor in whitman
Overall is great professor but do not expect him to hold your hand and walk you through stuff because you are freshman, but it helps you next semester cause other teachers are like that. If you need help then you have to ask and he's pretty good with responding in a timely manner. Sometimes he is unclear and the group project depends on group.
The BEST professor. He's super tough but I wouldn't have wanted to take SOM122 with any other professor. He is so knowledgeable and makes this class enjoyable.
Pro. Petosa brings more business experience than any of the other SOM-122 teachers. Being a mandatory course for all Whitman students it has identical power points and lectures for the four different professors that teach it. So the content and grading wont change much teacher to teacher. (Tests and a group project make up most of your grade.)
Your first few homework scores decide your fate for the rest of the course. If you score good, he'll not even read the subsequent papers you turn in. On the flipside, if you do bad, you'll get low scores even if you turn in better quality homeworks in the future. And speak in the class. Participation matters more than the weight given to it.
I believe Prof. Petosa is an excellent instructor. He ensures that the concepts get drilled down into your mindset. He does give homeworks which are analytical, logical, and easy. I would recommend taking Prof. Petosa's class without reservation and with full enthusiasm. He is an excellent person, a fantastic academic, and respect comes for him.
Professor Petosa is great. He's very knowledgeable, he has a lot to teach you. He cares about what he teachers. His class might be hard, but only because it's worth it.
He was a great professor for LPP. He always talks about his past experiences, which are helpful to understanding the topics discussed in class. There is HW every week from the TB and all of the info that he teaches/are on tests come from the TB.
Its hard to do extremely bad in his class, unless you apply no effort. However he doesn't teach well he spends most of class flipping through slides and not giving much explanation. In his class I tended to teach myself everything before the exams and would feel very underprepared. However he is an amazing guy and friend just not the BEST teacher.
Petosa is the gem of all the Whitman houses. He is a highly respected and funny guy. I will say though he isn't the greatest teacher in the world and does grade hard on written group projects, but so does all the other professors in Whitman. if your taking this freshman year, the class consists of lots of LONG hard group projects, HW, and 3 exams
Petosa is a fantastic professor. If you end up having him of SOM122, get ready for a fun semester. It was a really interesting class and he is very engaging.
He is a very engaging professor. You have weekly homework assignments, but they don't take too long. He also grades based on how you get to your answer, not just on if the answer is correct which has definitely helped me out.
Lots of homework, and definitely not the easiest teacher for the class, but definitely really interesting and always has the best stories to teach the material. Loved his lectures even if the material wasnt for me. I would take again even though it was difficult.
As long as you do all of the homework, pay attention to his lectures, and try on the final project, there's no way that you'll get less than a 90
His lectures are extremely interesting! He knows what he's talking about and always has a fun story to tell. He grades the homework hard, but he gives an extra credit opportunity and applied a curve for the class. I'm genuinely sad I won't have him again next semester.
One of my fav professors, highly recommend! Applies course content to his own stories & current events, the lectures are boring sometimes but Petosa will actually make it interesting. Genuinely wants his students to excel. He's also pretty understanding about most things and usually replies to emails fast.
The best professor that I have ever had hands down! An amazing person who cares and his students, and he's extremely insightful. His classes are so much fun and I looked forward to going to every single one of his lectures. I took him freshman year, and I still take his lessons with me in my personal and professional life today. 100/10 recommend.
Petosa is one of the best professors in Whitman. He's tough and sarcastic but he is incredibly smart. He makes you work for the A but as long as you participate youll succeed. Its like 3-5 hours of work a normal week and exams are all open ended.
Petosa was really good at conveying the material in class. He's very knowledgable and invested in the material.
I liked having Petosa. I do think he expected way too much from us on exams. We were docked insane amounts of points for the littlest mistakes. I studied so much for the exams and still didn't do very well. Shares stories in class and has good experience. You'll leave the class feeling like you learning something even if your grades don't show it.
Best prof I've ever had at Syracuse. So funny caring and engaging.
This was by far my favorite course of the semester. The class discussions and Petosa's stories make class super enjoyable. When writing homeworks and papers make sure to be thorough and address every part of the prompt. If you show up to class and actively participate, you'll have an easier time or the homework and receive a better grade.
I love Petosa, but the class is hard. There is a lot of writing and homework. Exams are 4 short-answers, you have 3 IRACs(essays) and there is an extra cred. He has the best stories and is hilarious, but he's a tough grader. If you're looking to truly learn something, this is your guy. The class is a pain but you leave with invaluable knowledge.
My favorite professor at Syracuse. Class mostly consists of talking about current events or as he says "whats going on in the world". He keeps class entertaining as he is very funny, but is also a great teacher.
I'm writing back as a senior now... this man was the worst professor in Whitman that I have had! He may be okay for accounting or LPP, but try to get out of having him for SOM if you can. Rude professor, his exams were extremely difficult bc he did a terrible job teaching. Drop or switch.
Work hard and participate in class. Petosa loves to see a good work ethic. I learned a lot from this guy and really enjoyed his class. My best advice is to ensure you are well-prepared for your group presentation because if you choke, 30% of your grade goes down the drain. Exams are hard, but the Whitman curve works in our favor.
Great and interesting lectures and you will learn a lot from him. Class is pretty easy and until the end of the year you will probably have a high A, then it comes to stuff he grades like the group presentation and he is an insanely tough grader on stuff he has jurisdiction over and will tank your grade. Just try your best.
Petosa is pretty decent. He is unnecessarily hard sometimes. For instance, My at-home 10 question quiz crashed on me. I emailed him about the problem, but he told me there was nothing he could do about it. He rarely makes exceptions for people. There is a lot of homework in the class. Its very easy, so get it done and you'll be fine. Recommend him.
Loved SOM with Petosa he is strict but made the content fun and engaging.
HES HIM!!
There are lots of mixed opinions about Professor Petosa, however, I enjoyed his class. He is an intelligent man who knows how to keep his students engaged. He is definitely harder than the other professors, but his class will 100% teach you more which is worth it in the long run as most classes in Whitman overlap with what he teaches you.
I also had him for SOM 122, and he is the best teacher that I have had here. He makes me excited to come to class. His lectures keep me engaged and actually help me retain the information. Though his test are a little hard, he always does a huge curve, and you will normally end up with at least a B in his class.
Flat out beast, never once did I even consider skipping. Petosa is so legit, I never participate in any class and I felt like raising my hand every time he asked a question. His class content was relatable and applicable for in-real-life situations one might encounter.
He wasn't super bad compared to the other SOM 122 teachers. He was actually very inspiring, however the exams in SOM 122 in general are super hard for no reason. Like the content is understandable but idk why it was so complicated. ALSO there is a group project that determines the entirety of your grade so just hope you get a good group.
Super nice just teaching style is a little bland Just reads off the slides. Even thought its intro business, the tests are not that easy. Material is pretty straight forward. The group project is a make or break for your grade. Your whole group has to want to do well and commit to practicing a lot or you will not do well. He expects a lot of effort
Petosa was a great professor, had interesting lectures that are generally very engaging, would let us out of class early occasionally, but the homework is very time consuming and there isn't a study guide to prepare for exams. Harder than the other LPP classes, but worth it because you learn more applicable material
He's a very funny professor but a bad teacher. He just reads off the slides and is disorganized, will tell you one thing about an assignment then tell you the opposite when you ask him again. Grades extremely and unnecessarily hard and your grade depends on final group project so you better hope you get put in a good group.
Lectures don't really help when you study, tests extremely difficult, all multiple-choice questions and in class. Sometimes tells interesting stories in class but often gets distracted and we don't finish some of the material, must study a lot on your own to do well. Final grade determined by group project that is very involved. Very experienced.
SOM was my favorite class during my first semester. The lectures are engaging and interesting, and you'll learn something new every day. Petosa is a tough grader, but his office hours are incredibly helpful. The tests are challenging, so be sure to study well in advance. The group project is a make or break for you grade. Petosa is a G!!!
I loved having petosa for SOM122. He is such a fascinating guy and so funny. The class is a good amount of work and he is a tough grader. The exams are difficult so study a lot. In the end he ended up curving one exam and some assignments to boost peoples grades. You have to pass the excel certification exam which is a big time suck.
Really great lectures and always fun to talk to. First test wasn't bad if you studied but second test was nearly impossible. Often will also take off points for project assignments without saying why. I would take him again just for his lectures but only with other easy classes. Beware it is really tough to get an A.
Great professor very interesting lectures. Participate in class you will be graded on that at then end of the semester. Tough grader to get an A need to put full effort in and meet with him to find out how exactly he wants you to complete assignments.
He is the best professor at syracuse.
Take his class and create a relationship with him. Great guy, tons of knowledge and truly cares about students. Also SO FUNNY
Best Professor at Whitman, if you want a really entaining lecturer take Petosa, if you want a good grade through be ready to write and participate, he is a tough grader and has hard midterms but was he was one of the best classes I have taken
Petosa is all over the place. He gets distracted and we don't finish the slides. I had to teach myself most of the material because class time didn't actually cover it. Grading felt random and nothing was clearly explained. Honestly, if you can take someone else, do it.
Don't take professor Petosa! Doesn't teach in class and does not grade in a standard way. Class average on a test was a 60%, didn't scale.
This professor does NOT teach in class. Make sure you take notes on all the McGraw Hill readings becuase thats where your going to learn anything from. He is funny if you find riddiculing innocent students humorous. Do not take his class, especially for SOM 122 as a freshman. I can't imagine his accounting course would be any better. ):
Petosa is great. I promise his class isn't as bad as people are saying, you just have to put in the work and take notes on the reading. Petosa then expands and gives examples based on the reading. Easy class if you listen to his instructions and are friendly. I also learned tons.
This class was rough. The professor barely went beyond surface level explanations and didn't make the material any clearer. There was little feedback on work, so you never really knew how you were doing. Definitely not someone I'd want to take again.
