Love this man! They way this man teaches he shows you an over view of a topic and says "go do it," if you need help he's there, and he's just genuinely nice guy. If I where in WWII I'd want him covering my flank.
Great teacher. He's always been the one assigning the assignments that are the hardest and take the longest, but with enough polish they turn out to be portfolio pieces. He's preparing us to be solid, professional programmers, and doing a great job.
Solid 3D graphical course that covers OpenGL and DirectX. Covers a wide array of topics and gives great hands-on experience.
Helpful, clear, and loves the subject. A lot of work though
John is a great teacher. He's really invested in what he teaches. He gives tough assignments but they are definitively doable and he does a good job of making assignments fun. I find myself not being able to wait to do his homework. Very clear teaching style, very expressive.
One of the best teachers I've had. He is extremely well informed, and very helpful in and out of class.
John's a pretty good teacher, although sometimes it can be hard to understand the material. He will do his best to help you though.
Although material can be really hard, Pile is willing to help whenever and where ever he can.
Attendance is not enforced but you'll get incredibly far behind if you miss an important class. He doesn't necessarily explain everything, but he gives you the resources to figure it out and will answer your questions to help you understand. Great class if you can do the work.
Pile knows what he's talking about, but when it comes to helping you his answer is usually "I'm sure it's something small".
John Pile is a pretty cool guy. He teaches mad programming and doesn't afraid of anything.
Pile usually teaches some of the more complex programming topics and usually does pretty well getting the topics across and helping people understand
A solid teacher who only gives As to those who go beyond. He will help you through his office hours if you need it. One thing that was an issue was promptness with grading, but you know how well you are doing in the class. The pacing is fast and this class is NOT easy, but your making game, so you can get over it. Top teacher if there ever was one.
great professor!
John Pile is a fantastic professor
Great teacher with a real passion for the subject matter. Willing to help students no matter what and always up for a chat about anything. Learned much from him in the course I took such as Graphics Programming and Networking for Games. A+ teacher!
Works with the students and is always available for help.
Great professor. Knows subject matter well and explains things well. Take him if you can. Assignments keep you on your toes, but are easy if you pay attention in class and don't leave it to the last minute.
Great teacher; only complaint is that he sometimes seemed less-than-well-prepared for lectures on some subjects. Mostly anything I didn't get out of this class is my own fault, though.
Very interested in the subject matter, and does a good job of portraying that in class.
Course is a lot of work, but very interesting and useful.
John Pile is a great teacher who will make sure you understand how to do great things if you put in the effort.
John Pile's classes are difficult but he works with students schedules while ensuring that all content is covered.
Great teacher. Very helpful. Will email you at the crack of dawn. Likes to eat pizza.
Assignments are a bit rough, but otherwise a fantastic teacher. Extremely patient, and clear in class, as well as helpful and fun outside of class.
He's got mad skillz
You will learn a lot
Pile's good. If you're smart he'll treat you right. The class is all about showing off, so get good at that.
Excellent class and excellent Professor.
Some weeks he goes very fast other classes he goes whether slower
Great professor. Knows the material and how to teach it!
Excellent teacher. As long as you stay up to date and complete all of the assignments, you will learn a lot and do well in the class
Doesn't always return project grades and provide feedback in a timely manner. Still, Pile manages to teach many core concepts with regards to Graphics programming and sets a structure for students to complete projects in a reasonable fashion with additional time to branch off and research more complex concepts.
By far one of my favorite professors. Clear and concise explanation of expectations and is extremely helpful.
Makes you want to make games.
Awesome teacher. Very motivating and knows his stuff. You'll have fun in his class.
He needs to put more of the sample code presented in class online.
pretty legit teacher. i learned a huge amount in this class
Graphics Programming 1. Pile is a great guy, and really knows what he's talking about. I really enjoyed his class. I personally would have liked more reading/quizzes to enforce the ideas, but overall I learned a lot. Definitely a great professor.
Pile is a great teacher. Willing to go out of his way to help you and takes the time to get to know each of his students personally. Had him for the majority of my Game Programming classes and got so much out of my classes because of him. Great sense of humor too, and all around good guy.
Very helpful in teaching difficult subject matter. Expects students to take initiative in assignments to achieve a good grade rather than babying them. Both professor and friend.
Enthusiastic, approachable, and fun teacher, but did not give feedback or grades, except for brief comments during weekly presentations, until more than halfway through the semester.
The content over the class was well spoken and the uploaded slide shows were helpful. Most classes were done in lecture style with an accompanying slide show to help explain the material. The assignments were generally open-ended and relevant to the class however it would often take a long time for any of them to be graded.
Pile's a cool guy. He won't really teach you very much, it's more of "Figure out how to do this or you'll fail," but that's normal operating procedure for Champlain, and at least Pile's nice to his students and relatively interesting.
Good prof.
Professor Pile has a great way of challenging students in an inspiring way instead of an overwhelming way.
Great instructor, and taught the course very well.
Decent teacher, but hard to find out of class.
Pile is a very helpful professor and encourages students to come up with creative solutions to problems on their own, but is open to provide assistance on just about anything. No question is too big or too small. Very much enjoyed my course with him.
John Pile has a Bomb Style.
Pile is a great teacher to have! He really pushes his students to go above and beyond and you learn so much doing this!
Great professor. Really helpful with answering questions.
This class was really fun and highly informative!
Good class.
Such Class, Very Teach. The class material itself is great enough to take the class, and the professor just only makes it better. The class is very lively and you learn a lot of efficient methods to program for the industry.
Takes a long time to grade assignments.
Game Networking was a difficult, and the projects can become time consuming, but it's all useful information.
Networking Games in XNA, Learning Game Networking Concepts, Watching Funny Videos, Mini-Game Jams. What more could you want?
The class moves fast, and if you fall behind it will be hard to catch up.
He is a great professor.
Pile is a great teacher and he makes any course he is teaching quite a bit more fun and interesting. Exemplar professor.
Very well taught.
He good.
Good teacher. Very clear and explains the material well, although be prepared to do a decent amount of homework for the class.
I thought he was a good professor. He didn't grade any of my work for most of the semester. Other than that he's fantastic.
Great guy!
Pretty reasonable guy. The only thing that annoyed me was that he never graded any of our stuff until like a month after we submitted it.
10/10 would sleep through again
Good class but assignements weren't graded quickly.
Really nice guy and will take the time to explain things to you if asked. He wants to accommodate all levels of knowledge. His assignments often seemed rushed, and I personally found them really unclear. Other students found the same thing; the assignment descriptions were usually sort of all over the place. Also, he takes a while to grade.
Explains anything asked in great detail
Professor Pile is a great guy, passionate about teaching and programming. In order to get through this class with a good grade, it requires effort on the student's end as there is a heavy workload. Professor Pile is dedicated to making sure his students understand the material, prioritizing actual learning over simply completing assignments.
Pile was extremely helpful in getting you to understand the material. I definitely enjoyed his course.
Professor Pile is super nice and helpful. He will offer to help you but you have to email him and come to him. Do not be afraid to ask questions; he encourages them. The only complaint I have with Pile is that he takes a very long time to grade assignments.
The class periods were well spent. I definitely learned a lot from this class. There wasn't any feedback as far as grades go.
Pile is amazing. Just keep up to date on your work.
Pile's a cool guy. Really nice, won't fail you if you do the work. But man, there is a LOT of work. And lectures can drag on a bit, lots of powerpoint slides.
Very helpful and inspirational. Learning hard topics is easy from Professor Pile.
This class was very difficult, but in the end it was all useful information and was a nice refresher for my C++;
Smart guy, cool dude, great programmer.
Pile is really great teacher. He is always really helpful. This course is about physics and it overall is not that bad. It's a lot of work, but so satisfying when you get it right.
A great professor with near limitless knowledge on all things 2D and 3D. All courses with Professor Pile are a delight to attend.
Game Physics is pretty difficult, especially if you don't have a solid physics background. He did a really good job of working with us though and getting us all to a point where we had a solid understanding of the concepts covered throughout the class.
Professor Pile knows what he is talking about. He is a huge motivation to students. He expects students to take responsibility in learning. He also is knowledgeable about current and relevant happenings in the field.
Though the class was fairly difficult at times, Pile was always there and willing to help with any issues that came up.
John has conducted the class very well. He was very lenient with deadlines which made the class a little easier to manage alongside my other classes.
Console programming was a great chance to pursue a topic that interests you. Professor Pile helped guide students to develop ideas and adjusted the course load to allow students to manage their work.
The class is great, I learned a lot and had a ton of fun doing so.
This class is a great for learning a variety of programming concepts and topics.
I learned a lot from this class. Pile is very nice and absolutely willing to help if you are willing to do your part and seek it out when you need it. Just make sure to keep up with your work.
A good teacher when it comes to 3D graphics more so than 2D graphics. He will challenge you and expect a lot of you, and if you don't go above his expectations you won't really be learning as much as you could be.
While difficult and fast paced, the courses that Pile teach are extremely informative and fun.
This professor cared about the education of his students and will go out of his way to help students succeed. I learned a lot in this course and I am glad I took the course.
