Best professor I've had by far... I was sad to see the coruse end!

A little too 'off the wall' for most of us, way too high on himself.
Cool guy

He's an awesome prof~
This guy loves to hear his own voice, and clearly thinks that he is funny, when in fact he is insulting to seasoned professionals in the executive MBA program
easily the best teacher I've had yet. . teaches you important marketing tools as well as life tools
definitely one of the best teachers i have ever had in my life
JP is da man
very effective! knows his stuff an excellent communicator! cookin' with GASSS
AMAZING PROFESSOR, BEST ONE I'VE EVER HAD. THANK YOU SO MUCH
You can't take only 'wow' to the bank- or the class room. He needs to stick to research and let someone with real marketing knowledge teach. I was totally lost when i got to second year because all we did in class was shop online and watch music videos.
JP is amazing! Gets over the point well and full of humour!
What a complete waste of time and money. Our favorite fan should join the comedy club and not teaching as such a prestigious University like Queen's. Terrible teaching style, can't keep the class interested and offers little value for the "real"
Was the most stimulating course of my MBA. Not a traditional topic, yet that's the point! If you enjoy a fresh perspective and innovative approach, he’s the man for the job.
Excellent Prof. that has inspired the uninspired.
Powerful new venture course content and teaching with a very helpful course text and materials.
Perfect on all fronts.
Do the work, read the materials, and don't be afraid to experiment with your thinking. High expecations, very high standards, but all in a supportive package. Nice!
This course is the most engaging marketing experience at the school. The simulation is kick-ass and helped me land a job, and the readings in the course pack are so much more relevant than typically no-one-reads them texts used by other profs. The prof brings in real business experiences and guests.
The best prof I've had, makes the whole world your classroom and stimulates your desire to learn. Always a good laugh, but still serious enough to make for valuable teachings. This course was more than a lesson in marketing, it was a lesson in life.
JP rocks. His stories make the class and there's NEVER a dull moment. He keeps you on your toes and makes sure you're always pushing yourself. Great course, great prof.
quirky and entertaining - but a pompous prof whose lectures offer little value
JP offers WAY more than subject theory. As one put it "he rocks". He is much more interested in creating excellent managers than just teaching marketing theory. He is VERY responsive and uses the right amount of humour to keep things real life. "When Better is Possible, Good isn't enough"

Demanding, interesting, relevant, and motivational. The best!
JP ROCKS!!!
JP is awesome! His love for marketing is clear immediately because he is so passionate and enthusiastic about this subject. It is now a breezy course though. There is work to be done and it has to be done well (watch your grammar especially). My only advice is attend every class, read the chapter before you go and participate in discussions!
He is the most useless, self-centered person I have ever met. If the most important brand is YOU, then you sir are a very poor marketeer.
The most stimulating class ever! Tons of work, tons of fun, tons of take-aways. People who don't like him don;t because they don't want to work or don't want to be challenged at a higher level.
Solid experience and one of the top teachers at Queen's.
Thorough and engaging. Thank you!
At times he is unreasonable, especially with workload and assignments. His expectations far exceed his effort into the course. Does not seem like he cares that he is teaching this course.
Our group work made us work and learn so much. The exams were really fair. Overall interesting and very motivating. Thanks
Fair and fun and excellent business connections.
JP puts much effort and thought into his delivery and choice of projects. Big stretch and worth every inch of the challenge. Presentations were the best.
funniest guy EVER.
He's super funny
Hilarious. Amazing presenter and speaker. Some of the assignments are difficult if you don't take into consideration what HE is looking for rather than what YOU think the course is about. Great guy, very knowledgeable, sometimes goes on random rants. Make sure you go to class... every class.
JP has deterred me from enjoying marketing. I used to be passionate about it, but he genuinely does not show care or compassion for his students and this has left me thinking that the act he has put on in class is all for show. His lectures lack substance and I can't see applying what I learned.
Heavy course, he's always available, tons to learn but a great trip through case studies about marketing. Glad he taught it!
Excellent course. Tons of work.
Grt presentations and final project. Xms were tough and fair,
A very unpleasant experience.
Much to learn. Much to do and important to do well. Highly recommend doing all readings and being there for all classes. solid material and prof.
He is very supportive and gives much more than just information. I am very thankful of learning from him and enjoyed the experience!
Projects with real businesses were great. Thnx for this.
Just the best.
Coached students + helped them get jobs + helped teams win in comps. Tough exams & amzing lecs!
Great prof minus the fact that when you look back at the class, there is absolutely nothing you learned. You enjoy the class cuz he cracks jokes now and then but theres no content behind anything he says. The workload is reasonable. Questionable tastes such as must be in color, perfect stapling, sometimes stapling an x shape.
Learned very deep case analysis that helped me ace job interviews. Complicated team projects seemed like real world.
Many good mkt tips + cases. Always online and helping.
You will really like ths class too if you enjoy neuro marketing; want to learn Harvard type case analysis; want want to crunch numbers in a clever ways; want to improve your professional presentations; like competing against teams; don't mind reading about tough business challenges. If this isn't for you, switch to humanities or arts!
Best professor that I've ever had in my life!
Dr. Pliniussen is remarkably engaging and provided an extremely valuable Marketing experience. I will take many of the skills I learned in his COMM132 class with me to the workforce.
Awesome person and great teaching transferrable skills to students.
Our team did very well with the many projects because JP was always there to coach and give feedback. The exam and test were fair but tough, and tough made me stretch. Good take aways for self branding too.
Good experience all around. Helped with cases, projects, financials and choosing team members!! Many lessons learned,
This is my last marketing course I will take . I am in accounting. As such I liked the work, assignments and challenging work. Fair grading and accessible prof
I didn't mind the finacial side of marketing because I am doing accounting. I also thought the type of cases was a good variety of industries and issues give the mix of students was half females. Did not enjoy the presentations but I did get better with selling myself. This is my last marketing course and a good one to end with.
Great professor - can be frustrating because he expects great attention to detail (what sometimes feels to be beyond human capability) but I've learned the most in university from this course
I busted my butt in this class and didn't get a whole lot of sleep, but I learned invaluable business and presentation skills that will undoubtedly help me for the rest of my life! Thanks a lot JP.
Just did a case interview for a job. I nailed it using marketing concpets and discipline I got from this course. Have to do the work but it does stick with you which is excellent ROI.
Last marketing course we are required to take. Thank heavens because it is so intense and I must say worth it all because it seems relevant to many things I will do. Thanks prof jp
Comm132 is good because we pick our own teams and I finally got to work with group of all females. Mid term exam was fair, the help from TAs very good, our team liked all video taping of presentations so we for better and better at this. Good!
Course that I wasted too much time on. Will never use these skills in real life. More consulting than marketing.
small and large marketing cases, and projects and how to sell or market marketing recommendations and ourselves. Amazing experience. Thanx
The 93 tips and the marketing projects and video feedback were the best. TAs very very good too.
Prof let us pick own teams and our all girl team was the best. Take home was OK and consulting project hlped me get a summer job. Marketing reader was useful too and not a waste of money like other courses.
I am a finance major and don't like marketing, or HR, or BDM. Very hi work load and many assignments and all worthwhile. Surprising and Didn't mind at all. Jp is always there to help even in nighttime.
Best everything. " no pressure, no diamonds". Lots of diamonds.
Good marketing projects and cases. Heavy workload and fair grading. Work with TAs and attend classes and you won't be disappointed. Merry Xmas and thanks jp
Stay on top of the marketing assignments and get positive group members. Term flies by because always marketing work to be done.
JP is Very professional and thoughtful and fun and motivational and has our best interests. Tanx
The only thing I want to say is that this should have been our course instead of Comm131. Much better and practical.
If you're looking to gain practical experience/knowledge in marketing, look elsewhere. The assignments are taxing (in time and effort) and grades are VERY loosely based on questionable grading criteria. HUGE waste of time unless you are looking to improve public-speaking skills.
Either you love him or you hate him. I liked him but I know he can be extremely inconsiderate when it comes to accommodating students with special circumstances. I did like him though, I thought it was kind and actually tried to get to know his students. The workload was quite overwhelming and took a good chunk of my semester.
Course is about learning to do marketing cases and projects. Solid!! Quick feedback on all assignments and grading fair. Social media was fun too.
Prof knows material and makes the course and projects fun. I liked the feedback and meetings with TAs too. Good experience all round
Connect with JP on linkedin because of connections and marketing jobs and references. Xams and assignments about course content so very fair and fast turnaround for grades unlike most other courses.
Cases and marketing models helped. Fair exams and marketing projects. Good video taping. Helpful all round.
One of best course in first two years. Fair grades and assignments with good comments returned very quick. Marketing primer was the best along with social media. JP there for us and nows his stuff.
Summer has started & the marketing tools and lessons are helping with summer job. This course is the real deal. Not easy. But good stuff
He gives great lectures and is always willing to help out. Class was extremely helpful in terms of applicability.
JP gives a lot to his students, and he is as notable a prof you will find in the Commerce program for that and many other reasons. If you have a choice, take JP.
Prepare to spend weekends staying in with your team members to crunch numbers, research info, and practise presentations. This class will spike your interest in management consulting, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Lots of tips and lessons that are applicable to the real business world. Hands down most practical and memorable experience in QSB!
JP basically gets the students in his class to do the work for him. He gets students to do "Chapter Presentations" to cover the week's material, that are supposed to be 3 mins long and end up taking up majority of the class. Spends very little time covering homework material or content. You teach yourself from the textbook.
Follows outline and is available. Lots of good projects wear we get to apply concepts and are more enjoyable than the text. I like the team projects and cases. Midterm is fair.
Great guy, makes you work like a dog at times; but definitely the most realistic course from that perspective.
Definitely one of the hardest, most stressful, and most satisfying classes in commerce. No JP no glory
One of my fave two courses in 3 yrs at queens.
Hope to take other course from dr. P if possible.
Doc P's course was one of top two in my MBA with Fair grading and amazing and fun lectures and insights. Also though is new book was spot on.
Professor P has just started this new internet mrkting course and the waiting list for both sections is supposely largest ever. Amazing guest speakers already, relevant projects, and amazing online resources. sign up for this asap because its a musthave for any Bcomm. Plus he is anice guy who really seems to care about our careers and lives.
COMM339 is a recently reinstated class for 2016 (hasn't been taught in about 6 years). Absolutely amazing. The online textbook used was a great read and super relevant to digital marketing (will read again!). Guest speakers from Shopify, Facebook, and Google. Class projects developed your skills in SEO, Shopify Platform management, Blog creation
Best guests from top digital marketing companies super TAs, and projects all interesting and helpful no matter what your major stream. Sign up early hard to get in.
If you don't have a lot of exp. with digital marketing and your resume is weak in this area try and get into this course . The best of everything. !!!!
Super course, super relevant, super guests, super fun.
The visitors from Google and Facebook weee the best. I earned one of the digital marketing excellence awards. Prof also encouraged us to earn the free online Google certifications and I got 3 of the 6 possible ( analytics, vdeo, Adwords). Many skills learned and digital tools too. Thank you JP and remember enroll early beaucse!!
Best course in the MBA program. No doubts. Creativity + digital marketing + fun + state of the art materials and lectures. Super.
Got a job because of this course content and assignments. Amazing but not a surprise because Prof knows his stuff and has huge lists of contacts.
Ditto ditto ditto to all the previous course comments about JPs digital marketing course. The Mount Everest of unforgettable experiences in the BComm if you're lucky enough to get into it.
Much work, many assignments and goodd helpful takeaways. As exchange student was demanding and top course for me in all university time. Professor invited exchange students to his home for meal. Merci!
Make sure you form good groups for the major blog and shopify projects because that will help you earn the Digital Marketing Excellence Awards. This entire experience was tops. Doc P always says "to launch big ships you must go where the water is deep". This course is a big ship and as the saying goes..." Go big or go home" :-)
BeCome a TA for his course. All his TAs have amazing careers after school. All! Says it all!
JP is hands down, the best professor of all time. His classes provided so many relevant and inspiring experiences and opportunities that have already transformed my life for the better.
I was off campus but JP made the online experience fun with his video taped lectures and demonstrations about metrics, concepts, etc. He tore apart every case study line by line for us to show how to do deep anaylsis. This was the best. The grading was timely and the rubrics fair. Sign up if you want a super online marketing experience.
Take anything JP offers if you can get into them. Current materials and exercises. Helpful for career and self development. Makes the learning fun and relevant to current events. A winner.
First marketing course as elective. Worth it. Wish more courses like this. Thnx prof.
Shopify and Blog projects bets experience in commerce so far. Financial support from FaceBook and Shopify made it very real and practical. Mint course, guests and professor
Good marketing course with good video reviews of assignments and grading. Very fair and enjoyable.
Variety variety of very interesting, challenging marketing assignments, readings, etc. I am a life sci major And the workload was OK. I liked assignments every few few weeks so we could see how we were doing each step. The TAs had taken the course so they knew how to help and relate to me. Prof even hosted a thanksgiving brunch. Very kind.
In engineering and Took this towards my certificate in business. was the most fascinating and current elective for me. Hadnt done much team work or PowerPoint presentations. Am now much better and more confident. JP is accessible 24/7. Can earn a Marketing Excellence award if you get 90 percent or higher which about 1/3 of the class did!
Best elective in commerce program with long waiting lists to get in. Top prof too.
Way too many weekly assignments (both solo and group assignments), and expects us to put in effort for marketing. Be prepared to work like a dawg for your marks! Challenging cases and way too high of an expectation!!
Either the most disorganized professor I've ever encountered, or just plain careless. If you have no other courses and nothing but time on your hands, then I'm sure this course could be really great. But, if you have to manage other things ... don't take. Assigns projects two days in advance of the due date, not clear about guidelines, unhelpful.
Lots of work but all related to interesting cases. Follows the course outline. Teaching assistants and prof easy to access almost 24/7
This was my final business course in the business certificate. It is the only intro marketing course I have taken. my favourite even though my degree is in sciences. workload is average and really fair compared with the other commerce courses in the certificate. video lectures were fun and helpful. team assignments were applied and helpful.
Very organized and easy to follow expectations. Very fair grading with class average around 80% even though there is a wide range. Good mix of theory, relevant and applied projects too. Great guests zooms. Need more electives this good.
Fun prof. Easy course. Good marketing book. Interesting all the time !
I liked being able to work in teams with different people for each case. Some people kept the same team all course. I liked meeting new people. Social media marketing section In course was so good. Just do the assignments and readings weekly and you can get a top grade. make sure your team peeps all want to work! Profs Video lectures fun.
Amazg zoom guests all former students and now digital markEting stars. Course materials all current and rELEvant. Earn digital certificates from HubSpot , google, FB or LinkedIn. Best commerce elective big waiting list. Thoughtful prof fun too knows his stuff.
Good video lectures and homework reviews every week. Follows the syllabus. Teaching assistants all took the course so they are very helpful. I was taking another online course and also had a job and could manage it all ok. Very fair grades and interesting marketing assignments. Should be more courses this good. Professor is passionate about subject
A variety of very interesting marketing case studies in this course. Must think like a marketing management consultant which helps you prepare for future consulting cases and/or interviews. Find a good group, grind, work hard and you shall be rewarded. One of the best and very well-developed online course that I have encountered. Prof is a legend!
Great digital marketing materials and projects. Best course! Take if you can.
Ditto to all the positives. Best course taken in my four years. No question. So relevant and interesting. Thanks prof.
My first commerce and marketing course in 3 years here. Most enjoyable and interesting course I have had. relevant and current content, fun group assignments, easy to read course reader. Fun and very skilled prof jp.
Getting digital certifications from HubSpot and Google as part of course. Blog and Shopify projects are very relevant in today's market place and good skills for job market. All good.
I read all recent comments before taking course. All are correct and I also agree to the many positives plus prof jp always shows past examples of top work so we know what can be done to earn top grades. This is very helpful and the only course I have taken in 3 years that does this. Plus he always posts lectures on time. Simply great all around
Best course in 4 years in commerce most practical, hands on, and interesting big waiting list to get in so sign up early. Thanks Prof
Took this marketing course as my last of 6 required courses in Smiths Certificate in Business (CIB). Do this course last because it is the best and so you end your CIB on a high note. Course is offered all 3 terms but prof JP doesn't teach them all. Wait to take it from him like all of the other comments here say too. Thank-you Prof.
All previous good comments true. Great online personality. Very interesting case studies. Just a super prof leading great course.
One of my favourite professors at Queen's! He does the most to ensure everyone succeeds inside and outside the classroom. If you're interested in creating a blog, website, and social media content, you will get a very high mark in this class. More than half of my class got an A+ because he gave plenty of past examples.
Take this course if you can get in. I was wait listed until two weeks into the course but was worth the wait.Ditto to all the reviews here . Amazing lectures, fun too, and excellent interesting projects. More profs should be this gifted when we pay so much for our courses. Thanks to Prof JP 4caring.
Simply great!!
Take all courses prof jp offers if you can!
d My 3rd online course ever and so better than the others and SO better also than my in person courses. Prof jp makes it intereSTIN and fun and fair.
I was able to use one of my digital course projects to get a paid internship this summer. Excellent course! and teaching assistants were all top students in the course from last year so they were very helpful. Waiting list somsign up asap.
I found the reviews here very correct . an exciting elective. over zoom JP gave me ideas for career options and worked with our group so much for one project. His TAs are always top students from the course last year. Best course last term. A real winner prof and very relevant and current marketing course. I was off campus doing this online.
Excellent class with a supportive professor and helpful TAs. Hands-on projects like blogging and website building provide real-world skills. unstuck study was a game-changer for my study prep - highly recommend it alongside the course materials. Sign up early, this class fills up fast!
JP is highly engaging with his lectures and courses. 339 is a heavy course but extremely interesting, and you get a lot out of it. He likes to have fun with his students and is very supportive, you can tell he really just wants to see his students succeed
The lectures were fun, the content was great, and everything you read about JP in these comments is true. If you can take this course take it!
my final course for the certificate in business. the best organized and I learned the most relevant concepts and skills compared to other courses. The Prof makes the courses very excing and shows you how the learnings can be applied to our careers. The case team assignments were engaging and the grading and feedback quick, helpful and very fair.
Great course and great professor. You earn a lot of hands-on digital marketing experience in this course. However, the majority of your grade is dependent on group projects, so ensure you have a good group. If I had one criticism, JP tends to make inappropriate comments, such as saying slurs and humiliating students for walking in late.
One of the two best courses I took in my entire BComm. Very relevant skills and projects for digital marketing. The TAs are all picked from top students whomtook the course the previous year. Very fair grading and always provides examples of what top work looks like. Sign up early because space is limited. Thank you Dr. JP !
I'm in engineering and this was my 4th course for the Certificate in Business,,and the best by far. All the previous positive comments are exactly correct. I'd take any other marketing course that Prof JP offered. You should do the same.
Wow! Thank-you professor for all of the work you and the TAs did to create a super marketing Corse.
Best course by legendary best professor with who has amazing business connections. Only course at Smith with real social media and fascinating digital projects!
Had prof JP for this intro marketing course a few years ago. I just finished 4th year and now I can appreciate how great a course he gave me when compared with all the just OK commerce courses I had. The course was full of powerful marketing lectures and relevant interesting case studies. Thank you DR JP!
Wonderful course, materials, projects and hi energy class vibes. ThankU professor.
Great intro marketing course with many take aways relevant for other courses. I liked how Prof showed we could use concepts to market ourselves to help get jobs. Showed examples of AI that were super. One of best courses at Queens. Thanks JP.
He is funny and super engaging, but if you're an introvert, avoid sitting in the second or first row (he'll likely call on you). He's super chill and cool but lowkey a professional ragebaiter.
Very nice guy but his slides are insane. Genuinely screenshots of ChatGPT. he was able to build off of them in lectures, but when studying for the exam, I had to ask my friends for other teachers slide decks. had i had not, i would've failed the final. his TA's are hard markers too- my class got 50s, libitz class were getting 80s.
