John Postma is an enigma. At times I felt he was analyzing us or treating us like his mental patients. He had a sarcastic sense of humor that took some getting used to. This class is fairly easy if you do ALL the assignments! He explains things clearly, lots of class participation. Open book tests.

pretty good teacher. easy easy class if you do the assignments. online quizzes and no tests. got a A for doing nothing. sweet.

Online chapter quizzes every weekend...very easy because they are open book and not timed. Very little homework, and we had a choice of either doing a presentation or a paper for 2 research projects. i did a presentation both times. got easy A's on both. beats writing an APA paper!

Jon is a great teacher. He lectures and has class discussions a lot. If you have good attendance, participate in lectures, do online quizzes, 2 take home tests and either 2 papers or 2 presentations you will get an easy A. really not a hard class and you learn a lot. I enjoyed it.

Jon is easy going and openminded. If you're going to take one of his classes, be prepared for lude remarks to be thrown around by the students. I enjoyed it myself, while others didn't. Class discussions don't always stay on subject but the interest level

Postma is THE MAN. He's pretty young and I think this is essential when you're taking psych. Online quizzes, take home tests, straight up EASY.

This class is a joke. I wouldnt even call it a class. I could have passed this in 5th grade, but still it was a very interesting & fun class. Take home tests, online quizzes (you can find all answers to test and quizzes easily in the book-he uses exact wording from text too). Funny & very sarcastic. You can tell he likes teaching. Reccommend him

I enjoyed his class and good looks :-). This class is worth your time and money, as he helps to make the most of your investment. He will put you to work but he's very easygoing with his grading. I really like his teaching method, which is less memorizing text book terms and more of provoking your critical thinking.

has an interesting sense of arrogance to his personality, but you would love it cause it goes so well with the class. and that personality gives you reassurance that this professor knows what he's talking about. lots of class discussions in the class. you hardly ever get distracted in the class cause his method is so interesting.

class is not hard at all, just time consuming cuz reading and researching. go to class, read the text... and speak up in class because he likes to provoke your thought and oppinion. Postma has a super clever sense of humor... and he's gorgeous, so try to stay focused in class ;) ... but seriously, he's cool and very intelligent

Postma does not deal with anyones crap or immaturity. ALWAYS come to class prepared. As long as you read the chapters, do the online quizs and write the reflection papers your good to go. He has a very dry sense of humor, but can be very entertaining at times.

Postma is a phenomenal instructor. Very clear with assignments, projects, tasks, etc. Does well to include everyone in class and makes Psych fun. I had a poor teacher this past quarter which has made me appreciate Postma's quality teaching all that much more. Highly recommended!!!

Really great teacher. Doesn't really stand for crap from students, but is always willing to answer questions and really talk to you about the content. If you do well on the online quizzes, the midterm and the final, that's pretty much all he bases the grade on, as far as he told us.

He is a great teacher. Really knows his stuff. You have one or two online quizzes each week that are REALLY easy. 2 papers-or group presentations, an open book midterm and open book final. If you don't get an A in this class then you didn't pay attention. Watched 2 good movies. GREAT teacher, I hopes he stays and teaches more classes Psych.

Not a hard class, I got an A. Then again, it was my favorite part of Monday and Wednesday. Quizzes every week out of the book and two papers, not hard. TAKE HIM!

I loved this teacher a lot! He made psychology a blast and I learned A LOT!! This class was very interesting and the debates were great! I wish he taught further psychology classes at Bellevue College... Definitley recommend him to everyone!! TAKE HIM

Prof Postma is an incredibly articulate, intelligent, charismatic and passionate teacher. He believes in what he teaches undoubtedly and will answer any and all questions. Greatly enjoyed his sense of humor and good looks.Go to class, do the reading and assignments and you will get a good grade. Open book tests are straight forward. I recommend.

Mr. Postma is the best teacher; It has been a while since i have been in school and he makes the class easy to understand he is very good at letting us learn by doing group activities/discussions. Plus he is not that bad to look! I would recommend anyone to his Psych class, I only wish that he had more that I could attend while at Bellevue.

Postma was a pretty good teacher. Basically if you do the quizzes online and study a bit, you'll be set for the exams. The best thing about this class is that there were only two papers (you can present in a group if you rather) and two exams (both of which were open book and open note)--there ARE quizzes online but they're fairly easy (non-timed).

You will really apprecaite his genuine teaching style. He has some really awesome experience that lends itself to making the class very engaging and fun. This is not a class for those with a 13yr old mindset. Be prepared, the content is challenging and mature.

He is awesome at explaining concepts. his class atmosphere is fun. He does not take it very hard for his students, helps out his students. After class, if you have any question, he stays and answers your questions.

Postma was a bit of a disappointment in this class. As a result of his lack of structure, the potential of this class was not met. Literally no lectures, all class discussions that seem to get off topic VERY quickly. However, very easy grader, pretty relaxed with due dates, same format as 101. 2 papers/presentations, 2 exams, and weekly quizzes.

I was told get try and get a class with Postma and I am very glad that I did. He is a great teacher, knows his stuff, but is still a little laid back.

Very passionate and interesting professor. 2 difficult papers, 2 open book exams, and a lot of fun! The only thing I didn't like was all the group work. My group members were lazy and unmotivated. However, Mr. Postma was fascinating, using lots of real-world examples and personal annectdotes. Cute too!

Personality Psych was fun and interesting. Postma did an incredible job of deleriving the material and I felt like I learned a lot. Postma implimented the same structure of 101, weekly quizzes, two papers/presentations, and let us format our exams. Overall great experience!

He was not "easy"! I'm an A student, I had to "WORK" in his class. He is excellent. Lectures are fun, engaging & enlightening, He makes sure you get it. 2 papers, 2 large tests, on line quiz twice a week, in class quiz's regularly & 8 reflection papers due. He won't return emails & figures grades relates to attendance. Wish he had more classes.

Postma puts considerable emphasis on class participation so be ready for that. Some may be a bit intimidated or put off by his blunt approach, but he makes you think. His exams are take-home, so as long as you have the text book you would have to be stupid not to obtain a 'B' or higher. I learned a lot from him, and not just about psychology.

Postma is the best teacher ever!! he is so chill and relaxed but really knowledgable in the subject. he made psychology soo easy for me! the tests are straight out of the book, the final and mid term are both take home so you have to try really hard to do horribly. i wish i could take him again! awesome guy!!

John is very interesting and has a good personality. Class isn't too bad, not boring per se..John has a tendency to get off topic ALOT and engages his students in conversations that pertain more to his life or whatever is happening at the moment. online quizzes+take home exam+2 papers or presentations=easy A. LOVE THIS CLASS. He made the class super interesting and made sure that the students didn't feel awkward. You talk all sorts of topics that re relevant. He was also entertaining, which made class that more enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

He grades really easy. he also respects you in that he doesn't pick on you but he likes to know your views and insight on things. every assignment we do has to have some relation to what is happening currently. He also shares his personal life experiences as well. Love Class!

Mr. Postma is an excellent teacher and very motivating. He speaks from experience and gives constructive feedback on your essays, summaries etc. I loved his lectures, sense of humor and it was a good experience. I would take that class over again.

I looked forward to class everyday; he's humorous and made learning fun! He's also understanding and pretty lenient with certain things, but also makes his guidelines/deadlines clear. I learned quickly that it's very helpful to take notes outside of class. Class discussions make everyone want to be actively involved. I highly recommend Postma!

Class was a hybrid. Only online stuff were quizzes. He's a good prof! I felt the material was a little dry but I did already know a good chunk of it so could just be me. I really enjoyed Postma's Intro to Psych course, and would definitely take it again. He is a good and entertaining teacher who doesn't like b.s., so don't b.s.. Also, I've read in other reviews that some people see him as "condescending," but I honestly think it's all in good humor. Overall, I believe I would recommend this class to anyone.

Amazing class! I have learned so much. He is an awesome professor and we have great discussions in class. I don't know why anyone would find it boring unless they just aren't interested in Psychology. There are weekly quizzes on the chapters from the book, two papers assigned for the quarter and the midterms and final are take home. Pretty simple.

Great Instructor. Really enjoys what he teaches and gets the students involved! Not to mention hes not to bad to look at either! I really enjoyed this class.

He is a great professor. He is funny and he knows the subject well. My only concern is he doesn't teach the main concept in his lectures, but he mentions a lot of interesting extensions of the main concept. I mainly learn the subject through the textbook, not his lecture.

John has a more student driven approach then one based solely on lectures. A lot of times you will be in groups discussing what you have read. This means that reading is extremely important as he does not follow his prepared powerpoint that much. Not a lot of feedback is given but participate and present on projects and you will do fine.

A great Psych teacher and I suggest taking him. Hilarious and really relates personal experiences with the subject. It's an easy A as long as you show up to class and do the easy 5 question quiz once a week, which you grade yourself. Mid-Term and Final are multiple choice and are take home test. There are 2 easy papers/optional group projects due.

I absolutely love John Postma as a professor. He's hilarious but you also learn a lot from his class. He doesn't bore you with his lectures and clearly knows a lot about psychology. Although this class is an easy A, he does expect you to follow along with the material and will call you out in class just to test you.

Postma was an AMAZING teacher. Very lecture heavy but they are fun and engaging and sometimes even include videos. A lot of class participation and reading but tests were easy take home. I enjoyed this class, he is very flexible and stays after to answer any questions you have. Your grade is divided by two tests, two presentations and in class work

I LOVED POSTAMA!! I've taken him for two classes and he is an amazing teacher. He teachers you a lot and also loves to have discussions in the class. He is clear on his expectations and also a realist. I would recommend him to anybody. His exams are clear and his final presentations I really enjoyed doing because you can pick the topic.

Each test he gave us was a take home test, and had 5 point quizzes every Monday that are very easy. I highly recommend! He's a funny dude.

Inspires students to think critically and skeptically, to form their own ideas, and yet to learn and apply the vast amounts of knowledge already available to humanity. Everybody should take this class. Everybody.

A lectured heavy class, occasionally some power point but Professor Postma spends the majority of the time in front of the class going in depth with practical details over the subjects the previous chapter have covered. Clear expectations, and prepares you with what to study a week prior to taking a quiz. I would recommend this class

This is the best class! I am majoring in nursing and the first couple weeks of this class had me thinking I wanted to major in psychology. Very interesting discussions in class, quizzes and tests are EASY, work load is easy. He makes it so that you should have no problem passing with an A, and you'll enjoy the material!

Really great! Have to read chapter before class for quiz, grade yourself. Two MCQ tests, take home. Two papers/presentation, clear grading criteria. Have to read and be attentive, he might call on you. Brought his dog in one day, absolute best dog ever, loved her, loved him. Can be boring at times, but generally really funny and real. Easy A.

I took PSCY101 and 220 with John Postma. He is extremely knowledgable, smart, carrying for his student's success. I think Mr. Postma is a top instructor at Bellevue College and I have a lot of respect for him. If you do the work, and show up to class, it'll help you with your grade. I would recommend his classes to anyone who wants to succeed!

IF you actually wanna learn please take his class! He doesn't really care about answers right or wrong he cares if we actually learned! This professor has made a huge impact on my life! He is amazing and know he's stuff! The assignments are doable! They're also enjoyable so it's a piece of cake! I will always remember postma!

He is strictly no computer at all. No canvas, email anything. But he's a good teacher, no excuses, funny type guy. Lots of quizzes, make heavy reading and note taking. But overall little hard for a 100 class but very do-able

I like that hes very humorous but its very hard to deal with the fact that hes not very online. Its hard to email him to let him know I cant make it to class when I know he isnt going to respond.

Postma is brutally honest and straight forward about everything. He's funny and values students actually learning rather than focussing on getting all the right answers. Thats why we have very lenient quiz environments, easy assignments, and most of class time are discussions. Take him, you won't regret it and if u do ur just too sensitive

Very frank and entertaining lecturer. Frequently talks about meditation, fitness, and ways to live a healthy lifestyle. Course will not only teach you about Psychology but improve your life. Highly recommend. He grades on participation, weekly quizzes on chapters, one midterm and final, and two article review presentation/papers. Pretty simple.

Quiz on a new chapter every Monday. Doesn't give back work at all and you grade everything yourself.

He is the best professor in Bellevue College. I never missed his classes , not because I had to sit for attendance, but he was so good that I felt like losing something important if I missed a class. He will not enter your grades in Canvas, and will not reply your emails unless they are something really important. Be prepared for quizzes every week

John Postma is a really awesome funny person, and a great teacher. He isn't very strict and changes classes up so you won't be doing the same thing everyday. As far as homework there is a lot of reading, and quizzes every Monday for the most part, but he tells you what's on those quizzes in class, so listen and show up.

John is very straight forward. You take a quiz every Friday or day the reading is due. He knows what he's teaching and will take time to answer your questions after class if there not answered. If you need a professor to help guide you I wouldn't recommend him, but if your motivated you will be fine. Be sure to read! Easy A for projects and tests!

Professor Postma is a funny and nice teacher. He has weekly quiz for students, but it is open book quiz. Two projects which are pretty easy to get a nice score. Not really an easy A class, but you will earn an A once you make an effort.

Postma was a good prof. He went over the readings(long) in lecture and counted your participation. You need the text but can buy older, cheaper versions. There are 2 exams and 2 presentations with grading criteria clearly outlined. My only annoyance is having to hunt online or buy some films for class assignments. Great overall!

Postma is incredible and realistic and practical. He cares about student, knows his stuff. I changed my major to psychology based on his guidance. He keeps his lectures real and connects the material to real life. Can't say enough good about his classes and style

His views on certain topics were interesting, presentations can be scary but you meet cool people. He's chill and grading is fair. He doesn't look at emails and explains most topics well. Easy class, would take it again.

Good overall professor and certainly knows a lot but you pretty much need to teach yourself the material from the textbook the week in advance at which point you will get a weekly quiz on it. Professor will go off on personal anecdotes frequently but often had us out of class early. Really easy grader as long as you show some competency.

I personally really liked John. I see a lot of the bad reviews claiming he is disorganized which I can slightly see but his teaching style was perfect for me. He was an easy grader. Weekly quizzes were straight from the textbook. Exams were take-home so you can imagine it doesn't get any simpler. This class was a breeze. He is also so fascinating

I took Psyc 100 with Professor Postma and it was a very calm and easy going class! I definitely recommend taking his class because it just consists of weekly quizzes that are straight from a textbook, the lectures are very fun, and you can take the tests home!

the best professor Ive had and he genuinely cares about his students. Hes extremely flexible with deadlines and easy to talk to. Ive spent whole class periods jS talking to him. His lectures are fun and engaging. Rlly simple assignments and two projects. The midterm and final are take home and SO EASY. TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO LEARN AND GET AN A!!!

I have taken all of John's classes, and he's the best prof. I've had. He's always available for questions after class, and his teaching method is very much student centered, so it actually feels like you're learning instead of sitting there and just listening. 10/10 recommend.

Professor Postma is the best! He's so lenient and understanding with assignments, as long as you let him know. I had him for PSYC 109 (positive psychology) and this class consisted of weekly quizzes, which are open book, and we take all of our exam's home! I totally recommend him because he's so confident in his teachings and helpful!

Prof. Postma is a wonderful professor. He's a really easy grader and a great person in general, if you're planning on taking a psych class TAKE THIS ONE. Attendance isn't mandatory and all he asks is that you complete the assignments which are EASY. Most of the assignments are movie assignments. AMAZING PROF.

He might seem a little scary but he's very lenient and makes class time super fun. We watched some movies and write essays on them, 2 presentations (middle/ end of quarter) and had a take home midterm and final. We also had to read a chapter each week and take the quiz every Monday.

He likes to joke around, and his homework consists mainly of reading. There are short quizzes, but nothing is that hard if you have read the material. The midterm and final were both take-home assignments, and he is an easy grader and a funny guy overall. I would certainly take another class from him.

This is my second class with John, I took PSYC&100 (General Psychology) and honestly he's pretty much my favorite professor. He's hilarious, respectable, very inclusive, and a pretty great guy--easy grader and even my friend who struggles with work ended with an A grade. Ask him early and he's super lenient--he seems lil scary but he cares a lot.

He's a great guy, I enjoyed his lectures and how he included students in discussions. I suggest if you need to take this with a harder class (like I did), but prob take another professor to learn material more closely like for psych major unless you love self-learning. Easy A. There are two group projects but they're easy if you manage your time.

You have quizzes every week but its super chill, a few assignments and midterm, final exam are take-home which means its open book. You have 2-3 group projects which are also damn chilll. His lectures might seem like a lot but very helpful. The most kindest person ever! Amazing professor. Blessed to have him. Understands you all time any time

Amazing. 10/10. I turned in my midterm a few days late and he still took it--I explained by mental health situation and he was more than willing to be flexible. He's super caring of his students even with his lack of facial expression, funny, and honestly was my favorite-of-all-time professor from BC.

One of the best teachers and memorable teachers in BC, cares for his students. His lectures are so fun and engaging. Be sure to do some reading at home first though, it's not too much. Great grading system, midterms and finals are take home and he'll give you about a week to do them.

By far the best professor at BC I have met. Class is usually unserious, with most of it being discussions. Take home tests, two projects. He is an extremely easy grader and makes school bearable. Take him, he's the goat.
