Pulver is probably one of the best professors at CCSN. He cares very deeply about what he's teaching and his students. He is amazing in that he actually keeps his politics out of his teaching.
he his one of the top teachers at ccsn
He is a great teacher. I took him for the summer session online! He is not easy but he is not very hard. The only thing that I did not like about the cousre was that he made power point presentations that were really long and boring! But a lot of answers come from the power point presentations.
he was a bad teacher. I never new what was going to happen, no matter how hard I studied for a test I failed and I have never recieved lower than a B on anything, and he is very dull to listen to, it was as if he was trying to put you to sleep with his monitone voice.
This was one of the easiest classes I have taken so far! ALOT of reading though. The quizzes are all of defifnitions. The tests are on the power points and all you have to do is make sure to participate in the discussions. I highly recommend taking it online so you can skip through the boring parts!
This was a fun class. I took it online and it has to be the most organized online class ever. Everything has a place, it is all very easy to understand. It is broken into a time schedule for you so you know where you should be at. As long as you do the work and watch the lectures you will be fine!!
Great teacher! You must stay on track. Falling behind could proove to be brutal. But he is straight forward and tests right from the Power Point Presentations. Answers e-mail quickly. I challenged test questions several times and he gave me extra credit for rewording test questions. Absolutely there for the student. Would definately recommen
On Line...There is too much work required for 101 level. His tests are tricky and you are not able to check after the tests are graded. This is very frustrating. No feedback on all the written assignments made it difficult to know why you got the grade. In his power point he was more concerned with the bells and whistles instead of info.
For a 101 class he is asking way too much. Group assignments, tests, and writing due every week and an exam every two weeks. And after all that you only get C grade unless you do a big book report and two more papers. Also the tests have questions from the book that he does not require for the class anymore. Stress is the best word for this class.
A lot of self reflection is required in this class, the power poits are long and he is in monotone, watch the powerpoints the day you take the test to keep them fresh in your mind, thats where he pulls 99% of the questions. Do the assignments get a C, do the optional assignment get a B or A depending on if you do the book review.
Easy class online. A lot of writing assignments, a lot of group discussions, a lot of powerpoint lectures. If you keep up it's a breeze.
Fast-paced summer class, will do well if you keep up with all assignments.
WAY too much work for a 101 class. His quizes are easy, but his tests are hard and confusing. Even with notes, good luck. He films himself for lectures. I'd rather lecture notes. A LOT of writing. Even more than all of my English classes combined. My opinion, take someone else.
online class- Yes, WAY too much work! ()don't take it as an accellerated class like I did!) However, he thinks outside the box. I learned a lot and appreciated his eagerness to teach.
Easy online class. Loved this class. Easy A.
Super clear about what is expected. A lot of assignments but he lays out exactly what is due & when from the 1st day of the course. Never took more than 24 hours to answer any email questions. Don't skip the power points or you will not do well on the tests. Most of assignments are based on opinions so as long as you turn it in you get full credit.
Ridiculously hard for a 101 level course. Easy to get a C but if you want a B or an A you will need to do a lot of work. He is extremely knowledgeable and a good choice if Sociology is your major. If you are only taking the class because you have to, look elsewhere. English majors beware - his grammar and usage in handouts is atrocious.
This class was amazing. I learned so much. One warning though, there is a lot of work he gives out, so I would not recommend it for anyone who is lazy. He makes you do a book report thing to get an A, but the book list that he gives the students has great books on it.
Im actually taking this course right now for fall of 2011. This is amazing experience I am enjoying so much all the things about sociology that I am learning at the moment that honestly I did not know anything about before. Proffesor Pulver is an awesome instructor I am so lucky to have picked the course with him as an instructor. Thanks Proffesor!
So far so good. I love that he likes teaching and takes the time to interact by keeping you on your toes.
I really appreciate Prof. Pulver. He gives you time on assignemnts and he is understanding, he is not anal or hard and careless about his students. It seems like he realizes that we all have life outside of school as well. I am glad I picked his name out of the others listed.
Professor pulver is the best teacher ever haha. He's extrememly understanding about past dues, (If you actually have a legitimate reason) I did an online class of his. He went out of his way to lbel on te student calender what was due and when it was due. He sent us assignment reminders. He was extrememly helpful and helped us to do our best.
I havent met a teacher who cares purely about their students education as much as this professor does. The glossary quizes are 15Q/20mins and the 5 exams are 60Q/80 mins and his study worksheet goes over every question asked. I dont watch the videos, just read the power points and fill out study notes and wah-lah. Great teacher!
The "aging professor" as he called himself was brilliant. He made all the subject matter understandable and did not require a text book. Deadlines were set and clear and he sent out reminders for everything too. Understanding, caring, funny, and overall enjoyable. Took the online Soc 101 class and it is by far the best online class I've had yet.
Professor Pulver is aweome! I have been taking online classes for the passed four semesters and I have never taken such a great distance ed. course, He has everything so organized, and he sends you reminders about when things are due and personally tells you what grades you got on assignments and why you got that grade.
he is a very very good professor!!! i loved his class. and i learned a lot!!
Excellent professor, I don't believe I will have the pleasure of having an additional class with him, but he made sociology understandable and enjoyable. I would change the way groups worked so that those who participated were grouped together and those who chose not to participate could do so and not effect the people actually trying to learn.
awesome professor. very helpful.
Very great professor and is helpful in everything. Class was tough, but if you study good you will pass.
Very good course and instructer, but hard if you are not willing to put in time and work
Although there were a lot of assignments in this course, the guidelines were laid out in detail and Professor Pulver always contacted everyone by email to remind us all when assignments and tests were due. The subject material was challenging but pretty easy to remember. I would definitely recommend this class.
I took this class online. At first I was overwhelmed but it is actually very easy. He gives you plenty of time for all assignments and makes it clear on what he wants. Everything but the quizzes are based off opinion. VERY EASY.
Utterly the most useless professor ever I can't make up half of my assignments and when I could I got an F anyway I have never had soo much work for a 101 class EVER... half of the course content is so confusing and unorganized and on top of that your only allowed 2 test retakes and you only get half credit for late work come on this is a 101 class
took online. seems overwhelming at first, but once you get the flow of this course, it's very easy. the exams may be a little hard, but follow the study guides and you'll be just fine. i would highly recommend his online class.
Greatest teacher ever. He is there for you and he really cares about your success in his class he gives email and reminders to make sure you stay on track. I really enjoyed his class and if I get the chance I will take another class from him.
Great teacher who really cares, and it is very easy curriculum. At first, getting into the swing of his style was shakey for me, but not enough to effect my grade. I would take course taught by him again.
I took his class online and professor Pulver made everything so clear, that I felt as if I was in a class room. He gets back to you quick on emails and records his voice over the power points to make sure you understand.
I took this class on line and it was REALLY EASY. i got a b+ and i hardly studied for the exams or quizzes. the book is thin and cheap, u are only required to read it for one assignment though. i read the first 30 pages:D. he is a great teacher, quite a bit demanding but very considerate also. he replies your messages quickly and keeps i in track.
Online class was super easy. You get lost in all of the group assignments and extra writing assignments. The power points don't answer all of the test questions. He's not organized. He forgets that it's online. Stock up on ink though. You will have to print out tons of power points, quotes, papers, and a group grading sheet.
I took 4 classes from Mr Pulver back in the mid-1990's and he is the reason that I ended up graduating with a BS in Sociology. One of my favorite professors of all time!
I took this class in a six week summer session. It was a lot of work, but it was very interesting and Professor Pulver has you complete the assignments from your own personal viewpoint. I learned a lot and I am taking another class from him in the fall. I highly recommend him as a professor!
I took this class in the summer and there was a lot of work. But if you do it all you can get an A. He was very helpful and seemed to really care about the sucess of his students. I would recommend him as a teacher.
I took Dr. Pulver's online SOC101 course and it was fantastic. He is very straightforward with his assignments and grades fairly. If you invest a couple hours a week, you will do fine. Mandatory discussion post every week, quiz every week, and about 5 exams that aren't too difficult. TAKE THIS CLASS!
The class was really easy as long as you do all of your work and watch the powerpoints (they help with exams/quizzes). He is a great teacher and is very helpful. He replies to email quickly so you aren't waiting for days for a response. Such a great coruse, I learned a lot!! :)
I was very pleased with my experience in Professor Pulver's Sociology 101 class, and would recommend him to other students. I just wish I did not choose to take the course in only 6 weeks, so I could have retained more of the knowledge.
The quizzes and exams were fairly easy. Professor Pulver is always quick to reply and very helpful. The workload is very heavy; it's easy to become overwhelmed after missing just one day.
I took the summer scession online. It's a heavy work load, but if I can come out of it with an A while balancing two jobs & another online class, anyone can. Professor Pulver is very helpful too and responds to emails very fast!
I took the 6 week online summer class. Overwhelming at first but got easier. He gives plenty opportunities for extra credit. Course required 10 quizzes (easy A's on those), 5 exams that are somewhat hard but the extra credit can help with the lost points on the exams. Get the Dumbing Us Down book from the library (FREE). No textbook!
Very Knowledgeable. Hard if student doesn't study and analyze well what is asked. Strict with deadlines. Willing to help if needed. Generous with extra points if student is conscientious and willing to put extra effort and time to accomplish assignments. Recommended if you are a Socio major or willing to learn in-depth.
I took the 6 week, online Summer course. This class was really interesting. Professor Pulver is a very knowledgeable teacher. He is very helpful and replies very quickly to questions. The work load can be overwhelming at first, but if you follow his deadline suggestions then you should do fine. BEST ONLINE CLASS I'VE TAKEN.
For the 6 week class it's a big work load, but he gives you a way to organize the time correctly in the course outline. Most of the essays are more opinion. It was a very interesting class and I'm glad I had the chance to take it.
Dr. Pulver was awesome! He responds to all questions in a timely manner and reminds you of things that are coming due... The class has a heavy workload but it is manageable. I work a full time job and took 2 other classes and I got a B. I would definitely recommend this class!
Workload is heavy for the eight week class. He responds if you take the online class very quickly. Test are tricky and he makes them up. Writing in this class is overboard compared to other classes.
I thought that taking an online course was going to be really hard, because I thought i would be teaching myself. The teacher provides power points and goes through them on a microphone-rambles. He also assigns learning groups. It was a lot like being in a classroom. He also provides an outline of when things should be done to keep you on track.
SOC 101- 8 Week Course - GRADE: A Workload was more than any class I have taken. Content on quizzes and exams did not match material. Professor response time was remarkably slow (even for a normal length course). I do NOT recommend anyone taking this course. If you do, be prepared to argue for your grade after each quiz/exam/assignment.
I LOVED this class! I took the 16 week online course and it was fantastic! The assignments are all based on your own personal opinions towards society / situations. I really enjoyed the assignments where we had to examine ourselves. I learned a lot about myself in this class and I would recommend taking it. Professor Pulver is great!
Took the 8 week online course, A LOT OF WORK! His online class was organized & easy to find everything, but there was a lot to cover & since it was an 8 week class, you'd have to have a lot of free time set aside to keep up with the lessons. He's a good teacher, but a little confusing on some things. If you're looking for an easy A don't pick him.
If you do not have any time and you are a full time student, I do not recommend taking this class. A lot of work for what seems to be an easy subject. Notes were unclear and did not match the content on quizzes. Professor seemed an interesting person, though, very educated.
He is not organized at all. He gave me last semesters exam, then asked me, how I got it? He did not update his syllabus, that's how. Pretty boring too.
Took his online class. Everything was pretty straight-forward. I thought it was very well organized for being online. However, SO MUCH WORK! 5 exams, 11 quizzes, 10 application logs to do throughout the semester, countless handouts and videos to go over as well as taking notes on narrated powerpoints, and so much more. Be well prepared, and study!
Dr.Pulver is a wonderful teacher and I enjoyed his online class. I loved the fact that most of the work was based off our own personal life and past. I learned a lot about myself in the past 16 weeks. There is a lot of homework in this class, be prepared if you are a full time student. There is a lot of extra credit opportunities as well.
He explained things very well. This class was very organized and easy to learn. I was able to achieve the good grades I wanted to thanks to professor John Pulver. I recommend his class.
Learned lot I was impressed by the good Dr. Pulver very cool dude
This is a great online class. Dr. Pulver is a terrific teacher. He's responsive and very clear. I really enjoyed this class. Follow the suggested due dates, though. It's easy to get behind. There's a fair amount of writing, but it's all about your experiences and life, so it's easy. No research or term papers. Manage your time and you'll get an A!
Online class-No Book, 10 quizzes, 5 exams each covering 2 sections, no final exam. Writing intensive but the writing is about your own personal life, so its not that difficult. Happy with Dr. Pulver seemed like a nice man.
No book but lots of content - powerpoints with narration (45 mins+ per). Exam every other week. Lots of writing but based on your own life experiences - no research or anything. Easy A.
AMAZING PROFESSOR, which is saying something for an online course. Funny, yet informative. Definitely opened my eyes to the education system. It's easy to fall behind, but not hard to catch back up. Just be involved. My only regret, I wish I would've taken him on campus and not online.
I loved this class! He does assign a lot of work, many quizzes, midterm, final, and countless writings. However, despite the heavy workload, he is a fantastic teacher. You will need to manage your time well but he is fair and encouraging. He engages you in the learning process and you will finish the class with a good deal of knowledge.
Dr. Pulver gave us a lot of different reading material to help us better understand the course. It was a fun class and I learned a lot.
Minimal textbook usage; teacher is helpful and there's great freedom in writing. Extra credit is handed out regularly for effort. Workload is easy and open-book, but assignments have are only open during specific times.
This online course is a lot of work. Prof. Pulver lays it out, though (20 hrs per week for six weeks) if you want to do well. His class is funny, insightful and a great experience for first time, online students who need the prereq
This was a very helpful class!!! He's very thorough and quick to respond to questions
Mr. Pulver is an amazing teacher. his tests are hard but most if not all the answers were in the slide shows. I would take this course over again if I had too with Mr. Pulver
Dr Pulver is an amazing teacher. Her class was a wonderful learning experience. I love it!
I enjoyed his impute. Most teachers throw information at us during the duration of the online course. We received a lot of his own input throughout the course. The best online teacher I have had so far. He really funny too
no textbook/email fast. very fun and easy class. You learn at your own pace. it seem like a lot of work really it isn't. he a great teacher high recommend.
Out of the 4 online classes I took, this one was definitely the best. Dr. Pulver is very helpful and not hard to get a hold of. His lectures are very interesting and sometimes entertaining. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. I learned something in this class, unlike the other ones where I was just memorizing stuff for a good grade.
Dr. Pulver really cares about his students. He answers questions in a timely manner. He was an awesome instructor. Take this class if you can.
Professor Pulver cares about his students. He gives 5 exams of which you can easily pass if you follow his power points. He also gives a lot of writing assignments, but they are opinionated. Overall, great professor!!!
GREAT PROFESSOR! CLEAR EXPECTATIONS! VERY INTERESTING ASSIGNMENTS! I would definitely recommend Professor Pulver to students needing to take SOC 101 who also want to take a fun and informative course!
Professor Pulver sure makes you work for your grade but its more like your life journal. There are no heavy writing assignments and no textbook. A lot of power points but he narrates for clarity. You learn a lot about yourself. Great class, great professor, highly recommend. Just do the work.
Professor Pulver cares about his students. He gives 5 exams of which you can easily pass if you follow his power points. He also gives a lot of writing assignments, but they are based on your own experiences. Overall, great professor, great class!!!
Great professor. Great class! Do yourself a favor and take this course when you really have time to think about your life, your choices and the world around you. You'll be glad you did!
He gives enormous amount of work... and its overwhelming with all his assignments. once you complete one there another never ending story
Dr. Pulver is a great professor. He does care about his students and will assist them however and whenever they need it. This is one of my first classes after being out of school for over 25 years and I recieved an A. There was a time I got behind in my work due to family issues and he was willing to give me extra time if I needed it. Love him!
This teacher is very disorganized. It seems like he isn't very good with technology and has a hard time organizing assignments, print outs, lectures and tests. Due dates were even hard to understand. He gives a lot of work and even when you figure it out you have to go find the instructions from 5 lessons ago. Very frustrating. No textbook.
If you have a lot of time on your hands, then take this course. I'm finding it very difficult to keep up with all of his assignments because there are SO MANY. My mind is bogged down with all of the learning group posts, papers, handouts to read, powerpoints, and quizzes.
Prof. Pulver is great ! No textbook necessary, everything was through Power Point. Overall an easy class; highly recommended.
Gives little vocab quizzes and no textbook use. Fairly simple class. There are group discussions that must have a summary done by someone which isn't usually done and hurts the grade of all in the group.
The teacher was very good! Pretty easy class, gave you everything you needed, responded to any questions quickly, gave good feedback, and would even send you messages when things were coming due and you had not yet submitted or taken a quiz or test. Only complaint, I feel like some of the test material wasn't even covered.
He's a good teacher because he gives back good feedback. He also says that if we ever need help, to ask him. I just think he gave too much work. Sometimes we'd have one thing right after the other. The exams are long. Too long in my opinion and I feel like some stuff on the exams weren't even things we were learning at the moment.
He is very inspirational and I enjoyed the readings he had us read from his own posts. Book was boring, but don't read much from it. He makes the class interesting with the assignments given to read and write about. It is hard to maneuver through his class until you figure out the modules and timing. Very helpful! I'd take another one of his.
A lot of work for an online class. His cares about his students and gives updates on what to expect on the quizzes and exams. He helps guide you through the online course. Not an easy A but, you don't need a book. For summer take only this class at one time if you're taking more classes hopefully you do not have too many other obligations.
Please don't take this class. He gave us tons of vocabulary, papers, ppt to read. There was like 10 assignments/week. Exams was long and super hard. Most of the questions were not even in the book or in his lessons. I actually was crying in the middle of the exam. I just don't know what to do. FYI, I was an A's student. Please just DON'T!
Online-Dr. Pulver is a great professor and I highly recommend his online course. It's only 6 weeks so there's a lot of material to cover. 10 vocab quizzes 5 exams and a couple of papers, oh they're all open book too. If you don't make your classes a priority, you'll fail. If you're dedicated to the course there's no reason you won't get an A+!
He was one of the best teachers I've had! I took the 6 week summer class, every three days were new assignments and quizzes with 5 exams. All of it was easy and very interesting. He really has the class structured so it's not to overwhelming.
Dr. Pulver is amazing!! I took his 6 week class this summer. We had 10 very easy quizzes and 5 exams. His reminders on due dates and activities are always on point. He truly cares about his students and I will definitely take his class again. He also gives extra credits which can pull your grades higher. He is super organize with his classes too!!
This class was easy for the most part you got some reading to do Lucy lol. We get an electronic book which is convenient but the test are full of crap from every chapter and no one has time for that much reading. The other assignments he gives are super easy along with the extra credit. Turn in your journals and study and you'll be good.
Don't suggest this teacher if you like failing your exams with no time to finish 80 questions in 80 minutes and barely any information. Sets class up for failure.
I took Sociology 101 with Dr. Pulver for the fall semester. There is a lot of homework, and reading, quizzes and group work, but he lays it all out in advance , day by day, so theres no way you can miss something. He also offers extra credit here and there. As long as you follow his calendar, you will pass.
I'm sorry but he is a horrible professor when it comes to grading. He doesn't post any grades for us to see throughout the whole semester and there is way too much work to get done in little time. The exams are too long 80 questions in 80 minutes? I don't get done in time because the questions are too long and some don't even cover what we learned.
He wrote his own book, but it's more like a series of essays on separate files on a disk. Really frustrating. Lots of reading. He's a generous grader. Discussions are graded by your "group". Missed an exam and he reached out to me and opened it back up before I even had to ask. He's a really nice guy and wants you to succeed in his class.
This Professor starts out the course just right by moving straight to the chapter that can get us immersed quickly and feeling very motivated early on. He inspires us to use our own brain and not just mimic exactly what he wants or thinks in each assignment. He is just silly enough to make him lovable and just serious enough to really know stuff!!
Took this professor for my 6 week summer course online. Obviously I knew there would be more work since it's such a short semester, but his work is insane. Defiantly not material for a 101 class. You always feel behind even if you're doing everything right. Would not recommend if you get stressed easily.
I took this class summer 2017 with 2 more subjects plus a full time 5 days of 8 hours work. He had a lot of assignments and things to do in the list. Very inspirational and I learned a lot from him. I got a grade of A and he grades according to how you have participated. I would gladly get him again
Currently taking his class, and as a full time college student, it's a painful go due to the heavy load of work, but he's a VERY nice and caring person, so it makes the strenuous workload bearable. Exams are difficult as the questions are testing you on applying sociology rather than simply knowing it, so understanding the material is vital.
There is a lot of reading and writing assigned throughout this course so it does take up some time and the exams are written to be more thought invoking since they are the only ways you really lose points (unless you don't turn things in). Gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and gives great feedback on assignments. Very nice too.
For a sociology class, he had tests on stuff completely off topic of sociology. Tests made no sense, bought a text book for no reason, we didn't even use it. He's trash.
If you take this class online, this course will be divided into different modules that will focus on different aspects of a relationship and families (divorce, communication, conflict resolution). As someone that has had to take this class twice, I would recommend using the money on your student account to print so that you stay ahead.
Dr Pulver makes it easy to pass the grade with an A. My other classes had been listed as easy As on RMP and I wanted to work in this semester with at least one class. Print everything, even the powerpoints. There was a lot of extra credit available. You can't see your grade until they are turned in which was a little stressful but I still got an A.
Professor Pulver himself is a solid choice, it's just the setup of the class that can be difficult. By this I mean that working in groups in an online class can be extremely stressful when it comes to relying on other people to contribute. Other than that, the class was straight forward and organized in a way that helps you pace yourself well.
Currently in his SOC101 online class. He's caring, and gives extra assignments for extra credit points. His modules are easy to understand and follow. You're gonna be reading a lot and you have to understand them. The tests are HARD. Make sure to take notes on every readings and videos given and you'll be fine.
This Professor was very objective. This class was beyond well-rounded! As long as you put forth effort and participate, you should get an A.
Professor Pulver online 16 week course is well organized and structured. There is alot of work to be done, but he always gives out extra credit. He will be able to give out redo's on exams depending on the overall pass rate for the class. There are group projects, discussion posts, 6 exams, no final. I got an "A"
Lots of reading. easy quizzes and hard exams. tried very hard to get the A
He is one amazing professor. He gives so much extra credit opportunities that if you do an average work you can probably get an A still. You will learn a lot. The only downfall is that it is a lot of group work, and online that is hard because everyone won't participate and it ends up with a lot of work for one person. He is an easy grader. TAKEHIM
Dr. Culver has a great personality but he can become monotone in his power points. There's lots of reading and lots of exams. His exams were challenging because he words his questions a different way so you think it's one answer when it's something completely different.
I ended up with a 96 with Professor Pulver. His syllabus is very helpful and there is a lot of work tbh, but they're easy. Just give it your time. He gives feedback and lots of extra credit opportunities. DO NOT CRAM AND STUDY ON THE DAY YOUR GONNA TAKE HIS EXAM. Lots of material, homework and you will use the book, but it was very interesting!
Wow. What a nightmare. He lays everything out, sure. But, there is so much crap in the online portal , I cant find half of what I need to find out what to do for the assignments. His assignments ask VERY uncomfortable questions about your personal life. Ive tried emailing for help but he doesnt respond.
Dr. Pulver was an amazing professor! I enjoyed his class and recommend everyone take him. I took his 6-week summer class and it was loaded with work but if you study and participate, it is not hard and you learn a lot. He is clear on his assignments and when work is due, also he provides tons of extra credit opportunities! TAKE HIM!!
He wasn't a bad professor, but he could organize the assignments a bit better. He mainly used Launchpad this semester, rarely ever posted anything on canvas. There are 12 discussion posts and summaries, which people rarely participated on. This class did have a handful of assignments and timed quizzes, but it is manageable. Just make sure you read.
I liked this professor, but his online course needs some serious work. The way it's laid out is really confusing, and it seemed like on every test there was material that should not have been included, because it wasn't covered yet. He is a very friendly and strikingly intelligent professor, but the online structure made the course confusing.
Dr. Pulver is a great professor, but it is VERY difficult to read and Understand each module. I got application logs and group assignments mixed up and I ended up missing a 60 point assignment. I do love how he sends out reminders to do quizzes though. I would take this class again if it was formatted differently.
He doesnt really lay out the information too well and he takes a while to respond but when he doesnt respond he is very nice and tried his best to help.
