I think this professor does an above average job in teaching Poli Sci.The people who are complaining, I think, basically don't want to do anything for the class(read) and are complaining about how hard he is,this is college,not high school folks! Grow up

Not that much work to do in class. You do need to read and take notes. Take good notes for the test!!!! If you dont take notes and read you will fail...

Very clear and concise lectures.

Reading is a must for an A...for a B, you can fake it a little. Read the definitions, come to a broad understanding and have some specific evidence to back in up. Also, try to speak in class...he WILL remember.

He gives nice and clean notes and waits for every1 to be done taking notes off the overhead. Just read a little and understand some of the concept you can get at least a B. I took him over the summer of my first year of college so dont say he's hard!!!

Read. Thats all i can say Read and you will be fine. Yeah theres alot to read, but just do it. He has nice organized lectures and other than that not much. He grades his in class essays like out of class essays. hard tests too

quizes are easy but test r Hard. Since he prefers evidence from texts on test then his lectures,to get an A u got to read, read, and read some more and understand what ur reading. Faking the reading gets u by on the quizes but not on the mid term & final.

good professor, knows his stuff, not easy on grading with essay exams unless you agree with his philosophies. emphasizes a lot of pp presentations and tedious note copying...very boring, but very laid-back on attendance and tough exams.

Very boring, but is a nice guy. Tests are tricky essay-type, but manageable. He doesnt seem to pick favorites and just grades things how he sees it. Pretty much a normal teacher, not great but not bad either. If he fits your schedule just do it.

He is an average teacher. He calls them how he sees it, specially on tests and essays. He knows what he's talking about and that is what makes him a good teacher. Quizes are a little hard, but overall he's a good teacher.

Hard teacher, (although I got an A in the class, but barely got there) but I think the hard ones are ultimately the ones you learn the most from, so if you're really interested, go for it! You'll definetely learn a lot...but essays are hard...

i really liked the class except the textbooks are pure left wing political commentary and the teacher follows. i thought i wrote good essays but got bad grades because i disagreed with his point of view. a lot of reading! overall its an interesting class especially if ur on the left...

This teacher is one of the most laid back teachers.. 6 quizzes, drops the two lowest.. However, the quizzes are pretty difficult. be prepared to READ READ READ.. and then READ some more. give you many opportunities to raise your grade. also, if your final grade is better than the midterm, he will replace midterm grade with final.

Dr. Queen is a very intelligent teacher regarding politics. He gives a total of 6 quizes, which aren't that hard as long as you read along. And he drops your 2 lowest quiz grades. Dr. Queen is one of the few professors at GCC that lectures and tests at a university level. If you like Poli Sci, you'll love him. Great, great, great professor. Take him, you'll learn alot!

A lot of reading, but if you do it, you learn a ton! Remarkably objective teaching. He can argue from the right or the left with strength.

Whatever you've heard about the reading is probably true. there's A LOT!!, but if u like politics it's pretty interesthing and Dr. Queen is a great teacher.

My first impression of Queen was that he was a communist. However, I'm very glad I took this course because I was able to see the liberal stand point more clearly and even empathize with some values. He is very down-to-earth and helpful if you're willing; I recommend you stay away from obsequiousness. He strongly disapproves.

Dr. Queen is an extremely helpful and educated instructor. Many people believe he is difficult, however, as long as you study and pay attention you should recieve a good grade. I highly recommened him for Political Science majors, just dont get lazy with the reading.

This class was the hardest I took this semester...I have seen the grades that have been posted on MYGCC and I must say I got an A :) READ THE MATERIAL AND YOU WILL DO GREAT (like me)!

Not as hard as people in my class professed. I finished with over a 95% and am not exactly a genious... the key is to do well on the mid term and final (put as many facts from the books as possible) and actually read some of the damn Empty Dreams Empty Pockets book. Attendance is not strict

He's a good teacher and he enjoys class participation. He goes out of his way to convey ideas. I wish he would give us copies of his powerpoint presentations instead of just taking notes. Also he's very intelligentand willing to talk a subject to death if it helps you understand teh topic better. I liked him a lot.

He is a good teacher. It is A LOT of work though. He does he best to grade fair. But, his quizzes are hard and you really have to read A LOT. He gives 6 quizzes. Drops the lowest 2. And the midterm and final are essays. They are hard essays because he is a tough grader and expects a lot. He is also crazy about attendance. Teaches the WHOLE time.

This man is an excellent p.sci teacher. When I talk about politics, people think I'm a political science major. I simply took one class with him. His essays are very logical, and if you learned your political science - you will do well on them!

He is great teacher.I took all my Political classes with him and I always got an A.I am not genius at all but I tried to study in his class.He gives extra credits and also drops two lowest quizes and this gives a chance to have a good grade.

the class consists of 6 quizes of which only 4 count. the quizes are easy if u read and they r 40% of ur grade. then there is 1 midterm(30%) and 1 final(30%) which are essays. he does grade the essays hard but if u do what ur supposed to u will get an A.

I took his class twice. He is an excellent instructor. If you are looking for an easy A don't do it, but if you actually care to learn, his class is a must take. I must say even though you may not agree with his views, he is fair and will challenge your opinion and you will be better off for it.

Professor Queen is a man who knows SO MUCH about politics. He's a knowledgeable man, who explains his material thoroughly, and if you work hard you will get what you deserve. He is the best polisci teacher I've had at GCC and you learn so much from his classes. You should definitely take him. He is the best!

he is exactly what all teachers should be like. he is reasonably lenient about attendance as long as you read what you are supposed to read. he drops your two lowest quiz grades. 6 quizzes total.. two written tests. he's awesome. very clear. very chill. again, just read/work and you will at least get a B. i recommend him 100%!

A lot of the work is done through readings, he doesn't lecture too much, but encourages you to talk and think. Really nice man, who is not bias at all. Fair, really fair. Grades very hard, and not arrogant at all, open to his students. And no, he doesn't grade you based on your opinions matching his. He's very Fair.

His lectures can get boring since ALL he does is talk about Ireland. Make sure you do your readings and participate in class and you'll be ok. Advice for the essay test: put as much info as possible in your essay!

Dr Queen is a great prof. I would even go as far as to say he is concerned about his students. There is no homework except for reading. You have essay midterms and finals. He calls his tests "quizes," which are weekly. He is very liberal, but encourages dialouge and dif points of view. Do the reading, and put examples in the essay tests!

one word: BORING.... this might be the most boring class I have ever been in. However Dr. Queen is a G. His quizzes every other week are a JOKE if you do the reading... and he lets you have a page of notes with you on the midterm and final exam and he gives you the question before the exam... VERY easy to get an A

Dr Queen is great. Disregard the comment below. Yes Dr Queen leans to the left, but he does not discriminate or make you feel dumb. If I am correct, the guy below did nothing but pick arguments in class every SINGLE class and made it hell on all the class. Dr Queen is fair, kind,and a hell of an instructor.

Queen is an amazing person. Grading is based on quizzes and tests. Reading ranges from 50-200 pages every two weeks. Poli Sci majors will love him. If your grade is high enough, you won't have to take the final because he drops one quiz and one test grade. He wants examples and facts. Very nice person as well. ignore the dumb comments.

Dr. Queen is a highly academic scholar. I had him for a Friday morning session on Irish history and culture. He knew stuff out of the political science area like a pure wise man. The course was team taught, very lenient in terms of an A/B/C as long as you came to class, payed attention, did work etc. Cheap texts and very easy and fair grading take!

GREAT PROFESSOR! Well I enjoyed his class.If you read the assigned chapters you pass your quizzes and 2 essays you get the semester. His office hours are good too if you need help clarifying anything so don't take that for granted! I admit I didn't do the reading at times and still passed the class with a B.

Dr. Queen is a really good Political Science professor. He knows his facts in and out. Your grades are based on the quizzes and essays. Do the reading and prepare yourself and you will get yourself a good grade. It's worth it at the end and I highly recommend this class. I had B's throughout the course & worked my way up to an A at the end.

LOVE HIM! i've had him for several political science classes. he's one of my favorite professors i've ever had. knows the topic so well and is a great teacher. he has a phd from UCLA in political science. anyone who doesn't like him, is probably dumb as hell.

Great professor, he actually gives you chances to pass(ex. Drops your lowest grade) and hes generous with extra credit sometimes. The only problem this class has, is that there is too much reading, you get bombarded with the significant amount of pages you have to read to even stand a chance at passing the class with a good grade.

Excellent professor, I really enjoyed his open discussions on current political topicsissues, and the course lectures. There is nothing wrong with the professor; he is helpful, knowledgeable, and really wants students to succeed; the problem is student proactivity. Reading material is key for quizessay work; book material is discussed in class.

Dr . Queen is like Santa Claus . He is very helpful ,nice ,kind ,and jolly . He is in love with Ireland . Be ready to REAAD ALOT. He gives you the two essay questions ahead of time and allows you to have 1 page full of notes (2 test only). There are around 6 quizzes , very easy if you read . He gives you extra credit in each quiz .

People skip his class because he doesn't take roll, but he is a great professor. You must read a lot in this class. I got poor grades on all the quizzes but managed to get As on the essays so ended up with an A overall. Also he doesn't call on anyone or put you on the spot, but I suggest you participate anyway to avoid a room full of blank stares!

Prof Queen is very knowledgeable and open-minded about politics. The reading is a lot but definitely required if you want a good grade. If you skip the reading, don't even bother with trying to get an A. I learned so much from his class, and I do recommend taking him even if he can be hard. His class is overall informative and relevant.

Unlike most of his classes, our class grading was weighted on 4 essays. I had yet to take a pol sci class, and was terrified. Although I knew nothing about politics, Dr Q was very kind, helpful, and softened the anxiety by providing spot on lectures, slides, and allowed students help me from previous courses. Class is based off of a few essays and T/F quizzes. The quizzes are really not that bad. Essays can be challenging, but NOT because he is a tough grader; in fact, he is very fair. Still, he has a high standard in terms of what he expects. Ultimately, this is for your own benefit! You will learn A LOT. Can't recommend him enough!

Loved this Prof. He was pretty chill. He does a lot of PowerPoint- all of which you can find on moodle- a bit of reading, and very little of what he says is exclusive to the lecture. His tests are a little tough, but everything that is asked is in the presentations or in the books, so there isn't an excuse to not having it.I would retake the class.

John Queen is probably the smartest professor on campus. I'll be honest, he's pretty boring to most students. Long lectures with a quiet voice but he has tons of interesting anecdotes. He's funny and banters with the students. Lots of reading. Quizzes are scantron, two essays on the year. Just don't be lame and read the material. He's legit.

Professor Queen is the best! His classes are quite challenging, but rewarding as well. I highly recommend him for political science majors especially. All in all, there is a lot of reading but what else can you expect from a college course? True and false quizzes (easy if you do the reading). His humor makes the class interesting - I'll miss him.

Took his Honors POL S 110 class. Makes you read a few short books and quizzes you on them after completion (quizzes are T/F). There are 2 papers in which the prompts are related to the books, and a book review. He's a tough grader on papers but as a polisci major it will help you.

I had him for political science 102 and 104 during the same semster. What I hated most was that the midterm and final paper for both classes were due only a few days apart. He drops your lowest quiz grades and replaces your midterm grade with your final paper grade if you did better. You NEED to keep up with the readings to do well in the class.

The T/F quizzes (drops 2) aren't bad as long as you read the assigned readings beforehand, but make sure to read thoroughly. His midterm and final are take-home essays however you need to put a lot of thought & effort into them because he tends to be a tough grader (60% of your grade are these papers). One of my favorite professors.

He's a good professor who gives you ever opportunity to do well.

A lot of people complain about his "harsh" grading however if you're a polisci major he definitely prepares you for the standard of schools like UCLA whether you like it or not. T/F quizzes based on the assigned readings and a midterm paper and a final paper.

Dr. Queen is one of my fav profs, though I had a crap semester the time I took him. He's super understanding & will work with you if you approach him! T/F quizzes & 2 essays (Mid/Final). Not difficult, but you gotta put in work. Show up and read, you'll be fine. He's brilliant, really funny, & as a PoliSci major I just wanna pick his brain all day.

I've taken him for two semesters (104) and (102). He is so funny and intelligent and so caring! If you put in the work you'll get the grade you deserve. Always looked forward to going to his class! He's an absolute gem and GCC needs more teachers like him! Grade is based on quizzes and 2 essays. His class still gives me anxiety but i love him

You won't find a better political science professor at GCC. Nicest guy and interesting class. If you're not a poli sci major I don't recommend but if you are then you will love this class.

Dr. Queen is a respectable and incredibly adept professor. My TWO gripes would be his rather monotone lectures (when he's talking about things that don't necessarily interest him) and his "die by few things" grading. However, I survived, and you can too. Trust me, he's not as bad as others say. I didn't do any work and got an A. EZPZ aper jan!

This guy is a genius, plain and simple. He should be teaching at the "Big U" Im still waiting on my grade but I am pretty sure I received an "A". AND you CAN too! All you have to do is read the book, its not that much reading. HE is reasonable he gives you enough time to read, and then you have two essays. It will require hardwork, but worth it.

I had Dr. Queen for both PS 102 & 104. Both classes follow the same outline; T/F multiple choice quizzes based on readings & 2 papers, a midterm & final. Quizzes can be tricky if you don't close-read. He can be a tough grader on the essays, so make sure to follow the prompt, & ask him if you have any questions. Wish I talked to him more;he's v nice

6 quizzes, T/F and 2 are dropped. 2 essays he replaces your 1st essay grade with the 2nd one. For each quiz there's an assigned reading, when I read the material I received As on quizzes, near the end of the semester I skipped a reading for a quiz and got a D (but it was dropped)Just do the reading and what he excepts of the essay n you'll get an A

Yes there is a lot of reading, and his power points are pretty basic. But Quizzes are easy if you do the reading/pay attention. He usually drops a few questions off the quiz so you make a better grade. Super chill guy. He is a tough grader on the essays tho, but he also drops the lowest quiz grade. Pay attention and read and you'll get an A!!

There is a lot of reading, but pay attention during lectures and ask questions regarding the study questions he gives you, and you will pass. 15 pt T/F & MC quizzes and then he tosses out 2 questions. Also tosses out the lowest two scores. Does not give extra credit options. Lectures were interesting and didn't feel he was one-sided politically.
