Redden is one of the best professors I've ever had. PNB is a tough course, you have to study and know EVERYTHING, but he explains concepts really well and incorporates humor. The exams are difficult and specific, but he gives a lot of opportunities to get extra credit. He is always going out of his way for his students. 100% recommend his course!
If I could I would take all my science classes with Dr. Redden. BEST PROFESSOR OF ALL TIME! Dr. Redden is funny and gives great presentations. He is ALWAYS willing to help at his office hours. The exams themselves are difficult and lab practicals are the worst. But there is tons of extra credit and the final was easy. I wish Redden would teach 2275
Dr. Redden is the man! One of the best professors I have had. With so much material to cover he does a great job of making it manageable and the lectures engaging. Beware though this is a tough class! Exams are hard, lab practicals are impossible, BUT there is extra credit. Unfortunately Redden is teaching 2265 not 2275 in the spring
A flawless class taught by both Professors Redden and Kimball. They are both so knowledgeable and have a strong desire to see students succeed. The course requires studying especially the first exam and the first practical. Very excited to take his course again in the Spring. It was a pleasure to be part of the class.
Most amazing professor i have ever had. Dr. Redden goes out of his way to help his students and cares about their academic and personal lives immensely. He actually makes me miss anatomy and physiology despite it being one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. Dr. Redden is simply amazing.
Dr. Redden was so helpful last semester. You definitely have to work hard, but he goes way out of his way to help students especially before exams. For example, he did an online review the day before the final (on a Sunday). He also lets students stop by his office whenever he's there. Because of him, I went from failing the first exam to a B.
Dr. Redden is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He's an extremely nice individual whose goal is to see you succeed. He's always got an open door and if you can't reach him in his office he's always available through e-mail. If you have the opportunity to take any Anatomy & Physiology class with him I would HIGHLY suggest it.
I agree with the rating below me. He is a great instructor and passionate about the material. He teaches half of the material and gives 2 out of the 4 exams. Go to his office hours. They are very helpful. The only recommendation is that it would not be a good idea to stack this course with 3 other science classes.
Redden is definitely the better of the two professors for PNB. He is clear and to the point during lecture and always reviews material to make sure that everyone understands what he's talking about. Material from lecture is what the exam is on, so either go to lecture or listen to the online lecture recordings and you'll do fine!
He is definitely the better professor of the two. His power points are short and to the point and he doesn't overload you with unnecessary information like Kimball. He summarizes a lot of the lessons into diagrams which really help for a better understanding
He really takes his times to explain things which is very helpful. He wants you to get it and take away something from it. Lectures are posted online which are nice if you miss class or for when you study the exams. Optional cumulative exam to replace a poor exam grade. It's a do-able class, but you do have to put in the work.
One of the best professors I have ever had! I will probably remember some of the references he made during his lectures that related to the material we were learning forever. My love for learning and science grew so much after taking anatomy with him!!!
Fantastic Professor. There are 2 professors for the class, and they give you every possible resource to learn the material. Recorded lectures, extra credit practice quizzes, diagrams online, etc. They want you to learn the material. Exams are hard (But you get to drop one). Get ready for sleepless nights. If you always get A's, you might not here.
AMAZING professor. He was clear and cared about you understanding the material. Plus he is a big fan of Game of Thrones and a babe.
This guy is the best professor I have ever had in my four years of college. He truly loves teaching and wants you to succeed in the class.
If you ever have to take 2274/5, take it during the summer so that you can take it with Dr. Redden. It baffles me that he is not the prof teaching this course during the regular school year. Not only is he an interesting lecturer, but he is a fantastic teacher. He makes himself readily available for office hours and is very responsive to emails.
Such a wonderful human being and the best professor I've had.. He gives you so many opportunities for extra credit and cares about all of his students. Exams are hard, but fair because he only tests on things he has discussed in class, so make actually go to class. If you get the chance to take this class with him in the summer, do not pass it up!!
Best, nicest man professor I've ever had at UConn. Will go out of his way to help his students. He's also funny and very likable. If you can take the class with him- go out of your way to. You will be happy.
Hands down favorite professor from the 3 years I've had at UConn across all courses. Incredible professor, hilarious in class, funny slides, really tries to bring pop and modern culture into the context of the course. Posts his own written chapters online for digestive and heart, very helpful. Respects his students and inspires us. Hes the best!
Words don't do justice in describing the extent of my appreciation for this professor. He is THAT good! Redden is helpful, Kind, funny, and incredibly patient, he will do everything to help you succeed this really tough course. Best professor I've ever had, if you can, take pnb with him at all costs.
His material is harder than Kimball's, office hours with him might help, his exams are slightly different then what he presents, making it confusing. Really need to study his lectures, his topics cover the majority of exam questions. Nice guy, tries to make things interesting, you just really have to study.
Redden is super nice, is very good at lecturing, and is funny. His tests are wicked hard and not straight forward. The answers will be deep into the power points or Very contextual. Must work really hard for a good grade in this class.
A&p is a hard course, I've taken it with John (and another prof) and he is an excellent lecturer. Very good at explaining concepts. Lecture slides are designed to sum up topics. Tests can be hard but if you study you'll do ok. He seems like a great guy too
His exams are harder than Kimball's this semester but I like his lectures better. Redden should lecture and Kimball should write the exams! Redden's exams try to trick you, but his lectures are straight forward and Kimball's exams are clear and straight forward, but her lectures are confusing and contradicting! Can't win!
John is AMAZING. He's super accessible for help and answers questions so well so if you go to office hours you'll be fine. His exams are harder than Kristen's, but they're still very possible to do well on. He is the funniest person ever. There's so many chances to get extra credit because he doesn't believe in heavy testing. Love this man
Hands down best professor at my entire UConn pnb degree
Dr. Redden is hands down one of the most caring and personable professors at UConn. Although you have to work for your grade in this class, he is very accessible and wants his students to do well. Exams are lecture based but straightforward if you put the work in. Definitely take a class with him if possible.
John Redden is by far one of my favorite professors at UConn. The material is rough and the exams are hard, but he really tries to teach and explain the concepts until you understand it. He is accessible at his office hours and is funny and corny during his lectures. Take his class you won't regret it!! Beware though the class is a lot of work.
Take this professor for any class that he teaches over anyone else. He is clearly passionate about what he does and his lectures are amazing. Plenty of opportunities to help you succeed and accessible office hours. Very down-to-earth and will help you with studying strategies, concepts, etc. Makes lots of Game of Thrones references.
John is amazing! Such a knowledgeable and funny professor, he makes lectures interesting and presents information in a way we can understand. He's very caring about his students and accessible outside of class, as long as you're putting in effort you should pass this class. Although the exams are difficult, there are opportunities to bring grade up
Loved John, HATED the class. The material is ROUGH, so unless you put in 40 hrs/week, you're going to get about a B or less. John is what really made the class enjoyable, and he's a better lecturer than Kimball. For John's exams, just watch his lectures and you'll be fine. Theres extra credit, but its very hard to pull an A, accept your fate
He has really good lectures but his exams are tough. He words things in really strange ways so you do not understand what he is trying to ask. Kimball's exams are so much more straight forward and tells us what is going to be on the exam.
LOVE JOHN. One of the best professors I have ever had. Class itself is not easy but if you go to his office hours and listen to the lecture recordings religiously you will be fine. At office hours he's great at explaining things and never makes you feel dumb. Also, he's hilarious and a great lecturer.
John is the most engaging professor I have ever had. I looked forward to going to his lectures and he explains things extremely well. advice? listen to lecture recordings!! he is extremely helpful 10/10 recommend.
Professor Redden gives tough exams. But he's also an amazing lecturer, and incredibly kind. He also gave us an opportunity to increase our lab grade, and also increase your lowest exam score.
John is an AMAZING Professor and a great guy! He really supports his students and wants everyone to succeed! This is a very difficult class and you need to listen to all the recordings and STUDY. You have to earn your grade.
Dr. Redden uses many diagrams and pictures to explain complicated concepts, making them easier to understand. I did not attend classes but I listened to all the lecture recordings. He gives extra credit opportunities to help improve your grade. There are a few homework readings but other than that most of your grade is exam-based.
Dr. Redden is probably one of the nicest professors I have ever had at UConn. This being said, this class is not an easy A. The questions he puts on the exams are challenging. You must really understand the material to do well on tests/quizzes. Aside from exams, weekly readings can be tedious but they are doable just allocate the time for them.
Redden is a great professor and an absolutely amazing lecturer. The videos he made for online learning are super helpful and theres always something humorous added into them to ease our stress. Yes, its a difficult class, and the lab is absolutely terrible online, but I really love Reddens lectures. Definitely take this class with him.
Professor Redden was really amazing this semester. He tried really hard to help his students learn and also feel comfortable in his class. The material is challenging, but you just have to spend time with it and ASK QUESTIONS. He drew diagrams which helped me understand the material so much better. There were a few extra credit opportunities too.
Redden is the best anatomy prof. Exams x4 (Optimal fact based cumulative final if you do participation); Lectures engaging, interesting, but you need to pause and re-watch a lot; Live class diagrams, helpful, relatively fun; Labs awful, but doable; PreExam Quizzes stressful, but helpful; Exam Q's Easy to tricky, be prepared; Extra Credit Y
Professor Redden is great! Really organized slides and pre-recorded lecture make you want to learn more. The course is tough, but if you spend some time review and memorize each day, you will be fine.
I am baffled that everyone is giving such high ratings. this class is way too hard for an intro anatomy and physiology course. The material itself is hard enough and to make matters worse, he words his exam questions to confuse you. If I wanted to take biochem I would've done that! Students love him because hes nice but thats not what were here for
Dr. Redden is the best professor I've had at UCONN. The course is a lot of work but that's because it's anatomy. You can tell that he really cares about his students and that they understand the material and do well. He is a really good lecturer. You will have to put time into the course, but I would take a course with Redden again in a heartbeat.
He makes this to class hard for no reason. Only take this class if you're only taking gen eds because this class takes up all of your time.
He's easily the best teacher at UConn. Cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. You'll definitely have to work for your grade but a few hours a week of studying will get you a decent grade.
very helpful to students and tries to have fun
Dr. Redden is one of my favorite professors. He is very funny and very caring to everyone. You can tell he is very interested in anatomy and his excitement rubs off, he made the class fun. He is very flexible and just wants you to learn, but his exam questions are on the tougher side so put aside a little extra time to study.
One of my favorite professors. A great teacher, really wants his students to succeed. That being said, the class is still tough. Quizzes are a reflection of the exams. Questions are pretty tricky so you definitely have to know the material in and out. Gives lots of extra credit so you can cushion your grade. 10/10 would recommend, Lab sucks though
Dr. Redden is one of the best professors at UCONN. He explains things so well and clearly, that it makes it easier to do well in this class. He is also very nice and funny, which definitely lightens up the mood for morning classes. If you need help, always try to attend office hours. Tough class at times, but with him teaching, you'll be fine.
Dr. Redden is AMAZING. The material makes it a very hard class, but he does what he can to make it fair, and his compassion for his students is obvious. Probably my favorite professor that I have had at UConn. Very accessible to students, kind, personable, and wants you to succeed.
Dr. Redden has taught me so much, and not just about A&P. Despite his exams being difficult, he teaches the material so well. You have to work for it, but he wants you to do truly learn and he cares about you as a person. The most organized HuskyCT page ever. Going to office hours was fun cuz he shows his dogs/cats and is easy to talk to for q's.
Highly rated for good reason. Dr. Redden is a great teacher and even better human. Lectures are dense but he presents the material in an easy-to-understand way. Exams contain a lot of application-type questions, but it is very possible to do well. Super understanding during COVID, wants everyone to do well. Sad I won' have any more classes with him
11/10. Best professor I've ever had. I want to be bestfriends with him.
I mean yeah he's a good teacher but there are so many quizzes and tests. the in class drawing of diagrams do help but theres still so much you have to read which i wouldnt mind if the online book (tophat) didnt suck.
With a flipped class structure there needs to be a significant amount of time dedicated to this class outside of lecture. Redden is a great professor and truly explains all concepts well. Available for meetings outside of class and wants students to succeed.
Class is content heavy but the flipped classroom is effective in that you're introduced to the material in videos, and lecture is dedicated to going over that information, making drawings, and practice questions. Redden is a great and very fair professor. If you participate in class you're eligible for a bonus at the end of the semester too
Dr. Redden is an amazing professor and I wish I had the chance to take a smaller class where I could talk to him more. This course is not easy in the slightest, but Dr. Redden makes the content more understandable and motivates me to review the material. It's a hard course, but definitely worth it.
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. Anatomy is an extremely content-heavy and difficult course, but Dr. Redden truly wants each and every student to succeed. He explains all of the concept extremely well, and is always accessible if you have any questions. That being said, you need to put time and effort into this class to do well.
Dr. Redden is one of the nicest people at UConn and he cares about students doing well. He is very accessible outside of class and the class itself is set up very fairly. Tests do have a big impact on your grade but if you have a high participation score you can do the bonus assignment and increase you grade a lot.
Not sure why he has a high rating. Lab practicals take up way too much of the lab grade. There are two each is 35%. His exams are way too hard. This class is already hard and his exam questions confuse you
Way too hard, questions on exams are worded very difficult so it confuses you and the material is already hard.
Dr. Redden is an amazing professor!! If you did not do well in his course it is because you did not put in the time. While the subject matter is challenging, it is doable if you put in the hours. His lectures are thorough, but easy enough to understand and he makes himself available if you need help. Only problem is that lab can be tough.
The material for this class is challenging, but Dr. Redden explains concepts really well and is accessible if you need extra help. He makes lectures engaging and fun even when topics can be daunting. The exams aren't too difficult if you study hard.
Dr. Redden is one of the best professors that I have ever had. He is great at preparing students as much as possible for the difficult content the class has and is super helpful for questions.
Dr. Redden is the best professor I have ever had. He genuinely cares about his students, and does everything he can to make the challenging material easier to understand. Yes his course is difficult, but you will learn a lot. Definitely attend lecture and keep up with assignments! If you stay organized, this course is manageable.
Im not sure why he has so many positive reviews. Yea he's an awesome person and everything but i am not a fan of his teaching and his exams. The material is not too difficult but he will confuse you in the wording of exam questions that it makes you question yourself. I'm averaging 75 on exams when I would average 90s in Biochem. Let that sink in..
Don't listen to the negative reviews below. The people that complains about Dr. Redden simply didn't do well in his class. Yes, his exams are hard and requires critical thinking. But, it's not impossible to get an A in his class as long as you work your butt off. Redden's lectures are amazing and his diagrams really help with visualization.
He wants all of his students to succeed and makes class seem enjoyable.
Dr. Redden is by farrrr one of the best human beings I’ve ever met. On top of that he’s an even better teacher. Easy the best class I’ve ever taken.
Dr. Redden is a great professor, but I'm not sure how this class has such a high rating?! I would consider myself a mid to high level smartness but this was the most difficult class I have taken at UConn. It is extremely content heavy and the material is very difficult. Not to mention the exam questions are extremely tricky and worded poorly.
LOVED Dr. Redden, he really cares about his students and is super accommodating for students. But this class is SUPER difficult and you need to study so much to do well. His diagrams help so much and I really enjoyed him he is the best, but if don't have to take the class do not, it will lower your GPA. You must do well on the exams.
Lectures were VERY content heavy. They had very specific questions that were annoying to answer. Lab practicals were hard for no reason and people always cut it close to time when finishing. Allowed 2 attempts on all quizzes. With a certain participation grade you have 3 attempts to take a bonus exam that gets averaged with the lowest grade.
John Redden is AMAZING. Seriously one of the best professors I have had. He truly cares about his students and wants us to do well. Anatomy is hard, but he honestly makes it so much better. He is also extremely understanding if you are in a difficult circumstance. I really like how your grade is not dependent on how well you do on the exams.
Redden is overhyped. The amount of work you have to do is a ton. the exam questions are nothing like you see on the hw or quizzes. the lecture videos take hours to take notes on. He talks way too fast in the lecture vids and you have to rewind constantly to catch what he said. Krause speaks slower and her exams are more concept-based which is nice.
Dr. Redden really does a good job of breaking down difficult concepts, and his lecture diagrams are helpful in understanding the material. He's extremely accessible outside of class, and always willing to help. That being said, this is an extremely difficult class, and very memorization heavy, so expect to dedicate a lot of time to studying.
John is easily one of the best science professors at the university. Taking anatomy over the summer is extremely dense and difficult, and he does his best to make it as easy as possible. The courses were well adapted to the summer semester, and he even lets you customize your grade scale to an extent. If you can, take PNB 2274/2275 over the summer.
Easily the best professor I've had at UConn. Lectures in a way that is easily digestible and is very supportive of his students.
Redden is a very caring and kind professor. He truly cares for his students. Lecture is not comprehensive. Exams make up most of your grade, but they're pretty hard exams that require a lot of studying. Quizzes tend to be easier in my opinion. You have some reading assignments and lab is eh. There is a bonus assignment for up to 2.5% extra credit.
Class is hard and requires a lot of time and effort to get a good grade. Lecture videos take hours to finish but in-class diagrams are helpful. Some exam questions can be very conceptual, so ensure you understand the material. Lab practicals aren't too terrible. You can get extra points by doing readings in class participation and bonus assignment
Redden is amazing. HARD class that is very fast paced, so do not fall behind, but Redden is such a caring and helpful professor. Stick to the suggested schedule he posts, attend office hours, and treat lab like its own class and you will do well! Lab is hard and the practicals are worth a ton so don't screw those up.
the extra credit offered in this class is AMAZING. I was averaging 70s on the exams and had an 85 in lab, so I was supposed to end this class with a C+. DO THE READING ASSIGNMENTS AND THE BONUS ASSIGNMENT. it bumped my grade from a C+ to a B!!!!!
Dr. Redden is a very sweet guy but I feel that in his mind he thinks this class is passable. Even after doing every assignment with good grades, the class was very dependent on exams
Definitely the best professor I've had at UConn. He's a great lecturer and his class & grading criteria were designed for student success. If you put in effort, you will do well. There's so much xc and so many opportunities to improve your grade. I took this class as an elective for senior yr, and learned way more than my other bio/chem classes.
The best and most caring professor I have ever had, wants his students to succeed and offers so so so much extra credit. Obviously hard as it's anatomy, but he makes it so understandable and the exams while hard are super reasonable and not unrelated to content. Love this man to death!
Dr Redden and Dr Divino teach this course together and they are such a dynamic duo. Genuinely the most kind and thoughtful professors I have ever had. I recommend everyone take this course NOT just PNB majors. Their W course is so fun and allows you to explore communication and science and how to tie them together. Best profs!
Redden is the best!! He is such a caring professor and really wants you to do your best. This is a fast-paced, content-heavy course. He tries to cushion it with extra credit opportunities and does his best to make the work manageable and understandable. Loved him!
Love. This. Man. For a very dense course, he does a great job trying to make sure everyone does the best they can and is super accessible for extra help. He gives extra credit opportunities to cushion your grade and has very helpful lectures/diagrams for the harder concepts in each unit. Overall he is amazing and 10/10 recommend!
Exams are hard but he tries his best to make it interesting. Anatomy is a really hard subject!
Made the course super interesting. I would attend his office hours just to pick his brain about subject areas that peaked my interest. Cared about my performance, and worked to make lecture interesting.
One of the best professors at UConn! anatomy is going to be a hard course regardless, but him and krauss's flipped course make the class more bearable. he's extremely understanding, provides bonus points, and drops your lowest two quizzes. also uploads his lectures super duper quick
Professor Redden is great! Although the content of the class is hard, he cares about his students and teaches in an engaging manner. His weekly quizzes and tests are hard/very conceptually based, but if you look at his higher order and lower order topics you will be fine. The main drawback is he teaches a lot of content in a short amount of time.
While the class is one of the hardest you'll ever take, despite the speed that he teaches at, Professor Redden does genuinely care and helps students when they ask. Just know that this class is extremely difficult, so make sure you have a great work ethic and DO THE READING ASSIGNMENTS (seriously, they boost your grade so much)
Maybe the best professor I've ever had. The course is hard and you need to put in work but he has no final, with a bonus assignment to boost your grade instead. He records his lectures and focuses on drawing concepts to help you understand. Good professor and good person. Attend class (participation points)+study early, he wants you to succeed.
Redden is a super chill professor and I love how animated he is in the videos. He does tend to be more direct than Krauss, but that doesn't mean his material is easier. Overall, I enjoyed both of them as professors and their semi flipped model makes the class manageable. Keep up in lab (ran by Dr. Filipovic) since the practicals can be very dense.
He is an amazing professor. This class is very difficult, but he is seriously accessible outside class. Anytime I missed a quiz or needed help, he responded immediately. You need to study, watch the videos, and do well in lab - the lab practicals are a good part of your grade. Such a fast paced course but he really does try his best to make it okay
Dr. Redden was a good teacher. The class is a flipped classroom, so watch and take good notes the lecture videos before class. The exams are fair, but require a lot more studying than I was used to. Participation was helpful - was used to quality for extra credit which added 3 points to my overall grade. An A is attainable if you put the work in.
Dr. Redden was one of my favorite professor's at UConn. This class requires a lot of studying because there is so much material, but he really tries to make it interesting and does a good job explaining difficult topics. It's definitely possible to get a good grade if you put the work in. Don't underestimate the effect lab can have on your grade.
He is literally so funny and I can't explain why. Something about the jokes he tells in lecture and in lecture videos make me laugh and it helps me pay attention. He's a great guy and wants everyone to succeed. Not sure why his difficulty rating is so high on here bc his exam and quiz questions are very fair.
Redden is great as professor in the sense of teaching. He connects it to current stuff which helps understand. PNB is hard in general so I wouldn't take him again because I just would not want to take this class again. However my issues involve his commitment to the Waterbury students. It seems he focuses more on Storrs students ://
Dr. Redden was a delight. He is very accessible outside of class and understanding, and his lectures are fun despite the course being difficult. This is not a class you can get away without studying for; it uses a flipped model where you must learn material on your own in addition to lectures. Optional final that can add up to 2.5% to your grade.
Anatomy is a difficult study, but his and Dr. Krauss's lectures were amazing. Their participation questions and quizzes matched exam content making them a good knowledge check as to how your are studying the content. Dr. Redden did write more straightforward questions tho. Both are amazing tho and really care for their students!
Dr. Redden is probably one of the best I've had at UConn. Anatomy itself is a difficult class/subject, but him and Dr. Krauss really make it fun and easier to learn with their method of teaching. Their videos are informative that they use for class, and there are lots of opportunities to do well if you do poorly on exams. I def. recommend him!
I did not do very well in this course however that was more due to personal circumstances, if anything Dr. Redden did everything in his power to alleviate as much stress as he could. As far as teaching he was very effective and fun, there is also a slight curve on the final grade, my only problem was the quizzes and lack of practice material.
Redden was always accessible outside of class, though I feel like he was never much help. Flipped classroom method where videos are often boring and long, quizzes every week on videos. There is not much practice given before exams so you just gotta hope you do good. Exams are either 48% or 58% of your grade. Don't half ass this course.
Professor Redden's class is challenging but manageable if you engage with the content. Watching the lecture videos, participating in class, and using study tools like Unstuck AI can really help you succeed. The workload is significant, but he cares about student learning.
Predominantly taught PNB 2265 since Dr. Krauss was on maternity leave (she did teach blood tho nice), and his drawing made lectures so easy to follow (especially with cardiopulmonary material). Would recommend!
Amazing professor. Watch lecture videos and take notes on everything he says. Study that for exams you'll do great. Go to class bc the questions he presents help a lot and may even be on the exam. Lab is chill and helpful. Make quizlets for practical exams and you will do fine. I was scared about this course but the faculty made me enjoy anatomy.
Having Dr. Redden has genuinely been so great. He seriously puts his students first and cares about our learning. I feel so supported and it makes a tough class like anatomy a whole lot more bearable.
An amazing professor that's super responsive and willing to teach. Flipped classroom with lecture videos and diagrams/TopHat questions during class. Lecture videos are very important and little details matter for tests! Quiz every week and 4 exams, no cumulative. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I think it's definitely worth it to go.
For a hard class like A&P, Redden was a great prof! There's a ton of work and material, but him and Krauss both made it very doable and interesting. This is a flipped course so just stay on top of the online lectures and try to go to the in person lecture as much as possible. 4 exams and weekly quizzes, and a lot of EC and drops which helps!
