He is very funny and very fair but insists on loads of participating from you too, most classes are spent with yr chairs in a circle shooting around ideas-- very fast n very stimlating
Prof.Reder is a very nice guy. the class is not hard at all, he gives you his own print out, so no txt book needed. all you do is read the txt at home and discuss it in class. you have to make sure that you participate though. 4 assignments 3 pages each and that's it. definitely not the hardest class i took. overall take him.
Great professor.
He is an excellent professor. The class is interesting. He provides the materials, so you don`t need to buy a textbook. He gives a very useful feedback on the essays, and lets you rewrite them.
This was my most exciting class yet. Kimo Reder will have you laughing nonstop and learning too. Very cool professor and very worthwhile.
Good professor.
Fantastic class, always full of laughs and everyone working together is a collective, moves from topic to topic very quickly
This was a fantastic (literally) class, professor Reder is a really colorful character from California. Lots of energy in the course, lots of applications to how all life can be read and interpreted
He is an amazing professor, his class is easy and fun. He is very easy to talk too as well, he answers emails in a reasonable time manner. He is big on class participation, so if you participate in class and complete the work you will pass the class. I recommend everyone to take his class.
just take him for english, this guy is easily one of the best professors at BMCC.
Kind of an intimidating, alpha-male type, but very kind and gentlemanly and super-organized- class was always interesting and exciting
One subject i have always hated in school, but this guy made English a fun class to take
Zen riddles, Sufi proverbs, Apache parables- this class has it all! The most fun I've ever had inside a classroom!
A few people came close to breaking down and crying the last day of class this man inspires this kind of love and good will
I must say, his class did not feel like much of a class. Rather, it was a venue where engaged learners sat in a circle and analyzed short stories (when we were not listening to students' rants about gender roles and such, that is). Time flew by, to say the least.
Brilliant intellectual experience. I wonder if Ill ever have this much fun in a classroom again. Professor Reder is a guru.
Class is very interesting and fun. He touches many subjects . Be ready to talk in class and write 4 papers. I would take this class again!
Professor Reders English class was my favorite class of the semester. He does not assign homework, but rather has a booklet that he gives with assigned readings. Participation is key to passing his class, like others said it's just an open discussion every day with four major papers you need to complete. He's helpful, funny, and insightful.
Took his class Fall 2014 I loved it. His class is easy read, participate, and do the essays as they are the only things he assigns all semester. No Textbook needed! Very great sense of humor.
Prof is very smart and helpful but ESL students have a hard time passing class he is very strict about grammar
He can be a little challenging and confusing at times but overall he is a pretty decent teacher.
Professor Reder is the best, funny smart and very helpful with great course readings and discussions. will help you question everything about literature and your life and be glad you did
Professor Reder is fantastic. He makes the whole class engage, but is really supportive of the students when they speak. He seems to understand it is hard for some people to speak in group settings, but he coaxes them to anyway, and it is good for the whole class. You will learn to take a critical look at language and how it is used. He's great!
He has a very interesting method. We went over close reading techniques and was really helpful. He is very flexible with students (of course if you never participate do not expect much). Overall he makes the class very interesting.
This Professor is amazing, his class works as a team. Reading becomes so interesting, his readings are all expectacular. I never knew i was going to close read and dissect paragraphs. Professor is very understandable, down to earth and respectful. I recommend this Professor over any other i wish he would teach other subjects. No textbook needed.
I learned a lot in this class about close reading, before I really never had to close read anything and was totally lost in the beginning but readings became interesting and so was the class discussion. NO WRITTEN HW EVER lol and he gave a booklet for all the short readings. The 4 papers he assigned were easy, I definitely recommend this prof.
Prof. ReDer is the dream professor you wish you could have throughout your college experience. You will work, you will learn, and you will enjoy every moment of it. Great teacher, homework is minimal, 4 scheduled papers during the semester, and will help you thru it. He knows his stuff. Luvs to learn about you as you learn college level. J.D. 110
Reder was the best professor I have ever had, counting all from kindergarten. Reder made me want to come to class and participate. He changed my entire outlook on literature, and made me think in new ways about the world around me. Standard amount of work, this is college not elementary. Great professor, for real.
Professor Reder speaks and thinks like the poet and artist he is and will have you doing the same by the end of the semester. the best.
Professor Reder made every day a pleasure. He is an expert at turning strangers into friends and how to make literature come alive.
He is a good professor and you will make huge progress in English writing. But he is very tough we he grades papers. He expects a very, very, very good level of English and is too tough for Community College level. The grades he gives is what you would have received in an Ivy.
Professor Reder is very a talented professor! He makes you think outside the box, lectures are inspirational ; you need to read short stories/poems before the class starts and have few comments and thoughts about it. Your grade is based on 4 essays and participation in class. Not hard at all if you doing your job and taking the class seriously.
This genius professor doesn't lecture but instead leads a conversation while seated in a circle. There is a laugh or a wow every few seconds. It was a real pleasure.
Everything gets questioned in this class. Very, very deeply. Also, the professor seems very happy with what he's doing and he spreads that around.
RedeR is possibly one of the best professors I've ever had. He makes everything very interesting to learn about. We sit in a circle and have discussions every class, it's super laid back and comfortable. He's also hilarious and really cares about your well-being. Take this class!!!
Professor Reder is a gem of a teacher. Unique method of analyzing text. Entertaining and smart. Deep discussions. U have to work for a good grade but for advanced English it's not too much and he allows flexible creativity within the requirements. I would highly recommend him if you want to try something new. I love him and never missed a class!
Prof Reder is very generous from that free course reader he hands out on day one to helping you out through transfer essays even after class is over!!
It's been a few years and I have since transferred to another school on the west coast, but I still have great memories of his class. To date, he is still the best professor I've ever had. He goes out of his way to help. He's intelligent, experienced, respectful, and empathetic. I felt he was deserving of this review-- even years later.
Professor Reder runs a highly well organized class but is also hilarious and willing to go out on a limb with you. You will learn so much from him.
It was an honor to be in professor Reder's class he is kind helpful and very funny. The semester flew by but I wish it hadn't
This prof is very flexible and chill but also challenging in a philosophical way. This class kind of creeps up on you, it can seem casual at first but eventually you realize how much you've been learning all along.
Very helpful professor with great classroom discussions. Also very encouraging and interesting during office hours. Also a real character.
This class is great as you not only read stories but you learn lessons of life. Professor Reder has a great sense of humor and is willing to help with essays.
Awesome professor, philosophical but spells things out and makes all requirements clear Very funny but organized as well, completely professional
Professor Reder is a great teacher of writing, and will inspire you to give your best. I am coming back to my schooling after a long time away and am so glad to have had him for my first professor for my comeback. He is brilliant, encouraging, supportive.
Great professor! Will allow you to get extra credit and helps you out with your grade. His class is never boring and class discussions will be fun! you will learn a lot of life lessons as well. gives good feedback on your essays.
Professor Reder's three-week winter class just flies by but I learned more in it than I ever have in a full semester class. He is just amazing.
was the best professor that I had.
Prof Reder is by far the best Professor I have come across! He's lectures are class discussions, be ready to participate and be able to talk about anything, his class is just so comfortable and he is the most understanding person. Just make sure you dont miss class because he goes by the school policy of attendance and will lower your grade.
Professor Reder is honestly hands down amazing. His english class is very unique its very philosophical and makes you questions things you have thought of before. He is very funny and caring. You sit in a circle and just talk about the readings along with some philosophical question about the text. Take his class you wont regret it.
Professor, Reder is the best professor I had. His class is amazing and helpful. take him you will never regret.
Great professor with great discussions and gives lots of feedback and encouragement. good at dealing with controversial topics and respecting everyone's point of view.
He is a really great professor, I have him once in a week for 3 hours and 40 minutes but I still don't bore any of its seconds. He has his own textbook. Would definitely take a class from him again.
Professor Dr. Reder is an amazing professor. He cares about every one of his students and what they have to say. He wants everyone to perform their best. His lectures are very interesting and trust me, YOU WILL NEVER GET BORED!
worst professor
As this semester is nearly over, I realize how brilliant and effective and caring Prof Reder is and how much I learned. He is the best. Everyday in his class was interesting and exciting.
He is very polite, intelligent and caring. Always available via email. Gives very good and clear feedback! Treat students with respect. The best professor I've ever had!
Extremely knowledgeable, this guy is the best english language writing teacher you will EVER have! I learned more about the errors in writing and how to write more from Reder than any ENG instructor I've had in my entire history of schooling. He will show you everything! heck if he read reviews he would probably also be grading them! Nice guy too
Hes very inspirational and can show you how to live with poetry and philosophy in your heart. My favorite teacher ever.
The way he edits his papers are different than other professors. He really goes in depth which makes you want to improve your work. HE IS NOT AN EASY A! Also is not very nice when it comes to asking him questions about what you do not understand. Is not very nice. Take him if you want to learn but do not be surprised when he is rude to you.
Very caring and generous with his time. The best teacher of writing you'll ever meet. A real jewel of a man.
This class is very hard, I went to tutoring to try to understand his work but I still cannot understand. His essay is really hard, you have to put a lot of effort
Professor Reder is by far the best teacher at BMCC. He sets up the seating in a circle and makes the class feel like you are sitting around with your friends having a discussion. He teaches you how to think outside the box and analyze what you read not just try to memorize and write papers. I would take him again for any course! He's a must!
Professor Reder is outstanding. Brilliant but also very approachable and concerned with student learning, very funny and warm, there is never a dull moment in his classes (I have taken him twice)
I enjoyed his class. Just do what he ask of you and you'll pass. He's super nice and wants to connect to his students on a personal level--he wants to help, and is friendly. He has funny personal stories, as well as, deep sad ones--he's hyper realistic and won't sugarcoat the obvious. In terms today, he is a real one / goat/ icy/ g.
The class itself is pretty good, we are sitting in a circle and analyzing (or rather answering) questions to texts we were assigned for homework. Don't expect usual high-school classes with grammar, new words, etc. Once in 4-5 weeks, you will have to write an essay at home which is really hard to do due to the difficulty of the task. It is not ESL
He essay is really hard! If you English is not very well don't take him class! the class just sitting in the circle talking but I don't understand what they say. The semester was 4essays and one final essay from the department. You will have chance to rewrite the essay. Even through I went to tutoring is hard to understand what he teach.
Professor Reder is very enlightening, he gives outlines, sample papers and writes a group essay with you for every assignment. Very stimulating as long as you're ready for college level English
100% take this class. The prof. makes his own textbook, which is great for reading shorts and covers actual grammar issues you might come across. He cares a lot about his students and class is usually done in a circle-seated discussion. 4 papers (which he goes over in class) homework is just reading and preparing questions. Best prof. I've had yet.
He was the best professor I had. He is very understanding and wants you to do the work--so just do it. He's laid back and nice--he is chill and makes class interesting. Group conversations are a norm, don't be shy.
The best English professor ever!! I took his English 201 and 101 class and I loved both of them! You should definitely take him if you like English and close reading. He gives back every essay you write and gives you feedback. In class you have to participate and the topics we talked about were very interesting. You will not regret taking him!
He's easygoing and very open minded. He's open to any type of questions. Participation is very heavy, so if you don't participate, youll do bad. The transition from in person to online went smoothly due to COVID-19 was really good. The only thing are the papers. But other than that, he's good and cares about his students
Gives a lot of papers to do, tough grader. You have to be ready to participate if you want a good grade.
One of the best teachers at BMCC! Thank you Dr. RedeR!
Reder is an amazing professor. His feedback is helpful and he does not overload you with coursework. He asks thought-provoking questions and is extremely organized-- a necessary trait for online classes. You should definitely take this class. There were only 4 papers including the final. There are weekly readings and discussion boards (easy)
Professor RedeR is a great professor who was able to make English 101 interesting despite being online. He gives clear feedback on his essay grades and is a lenient grader. He is also not uptight, and gives extra credit if you need it. Overall, I would recommend him for English 101.
Professor Reder was engaging and offered multiple ways to engage in this remote class. The reading assigned was interesting and the work that he expected us to do felt like the perfect amount. I was always working on something but never felt overwhelmed. He also gave great feedback on my essays, would definitely take his class again.
Professor Reeder is such a great professor, he makes you read a lot but you will really learn in his class and your writing Will improve!!! Will definitely recommend him he also gives chance to correct your papers.
not a lot of papers 4 if I'm not mistaken and you can revise for a better grade great teacher i took him for 2 semesters because the way he conducted his class just an amazing professor take him you wont regret it
Great Teacher. One of my favorite sessions.
I took this class last semester and can confidently say that Mr. Reder is an exceptional professor. He is very kind and wants you to do well, he gives clear feedback on your papers and allows you to rewrite them for a higher grade. The class was extremely fun, I strongly recommend!
Chill prof, in a 'cool uncle' kind of way. Delivers information in a digestible way. Class is fun with the right crowd; he isn't strict and wants the best for his students (even if he may not express it). I am taking another one of his classes because I feel safe, and I'm learning so much. Did you know he's a Doctor and an Author?
If you're planning to go into the nursing program, I would recommend avoiding this professor. His class lacked engagement, and I found it difficult to stay interested or get the support I needed. I didn't feel that he provided the guidance necessary for success. I personally did not enjoy the class and found it unhelpful.
Be sure to dedicate enough time to understand the readings. The feedback he provides is very helpful as he addresses the mistakes in your papers and gives you tips to solve them. His grading policy is fair and the amount of effort you put into your classwork, the grade will show it. This class will help improve your literature skills!
One of the best professors I have ever had! Take his class, you won't regret it.
Class was super engaging!! if you read the readings and participate you'll be completely fine. essays aren't too bad but he gives great feedback on them all. 10/10 class
Professor Reder is easily my favorite professor. I knew from the 1st day of class that I needed to bring my A-game. All you have to do is participate and try and you will do very well. If you come prepared with the readings and mini assignments you will be just fine. I enjoyed my time in his class.
