Mr. Reffue is one of the most awesome professors I have ever learned from. His class is challenging but rewarding. He challenged us to broaden our world, to look outside of the box, to see things from other points of view. Take his class.

Prof. Reffue is an extremely smart Prof. Speech is hard no matter who you take it from, but I learned much from him. I had no idea there were so many forms of public speaking, but he covers them all.

Good teacher just don't be late and stay on his good side. doing a speeches is hard anyway but he will help you on how to improve it. you will do 4 speeches.

Dont be late or miss a day! Follow his guideline to the letter and you'll do fine. He does try to relate to the younger students (which is funny).

Professor Reffue is amazing. Its rare that you get a professor that actually wants to teach and for everyone to do well. From what I can figure out his grading policy is simple - listen and do your work - you will pass.

If at all possible take this class during the summer semester. He spends more time shoving his opinion down your throat than he does teaching. I have never met a single person who knows so much about everything. Class was easy - he was just a pain!!!

Professor Refuee is a great teacher. His class is very hard but he knows what he is talkin about. He does grade the speeches harhly and I had to do 4 over a 6 week summer course. He is very anal about lateness. Don't take this over the summer.

Mr. Reffue is one of the best faculty members in the whole college. If you want easy, take another class. If you want to learn to be articulate, take his class. People who complain about him do it because he actually wants you to learn. He's excellent.

Anyone who complains about Reffue probably slacked off and didn't bother to come to class or get their assignments done on time. He's seriously one of the best teachers at this college. He's very bright and very dedicated. Too bad he's on leave this year.

Mr. Reffue was very understanding. He made what i thought would be a horrible class into something that was do-able and enjoyable. A lot of work involved, including outside research. But I enjoyed it very much, and he is very understanding to your personal life, yet with reason.

Amazing professor. Smart and dedicated to student success. I just finished a great summer semester in his class. His formula for creating effective speeches is clearly spelled out, along with his expectations. If you listen, be on time and follow directions and practice, you will do great. Anyone who disses him on this website is a whiner.

Although there was a lot of work it was also only a 6 week class and you have to expect that kind of thing. He told you exactly what he wanted and that's what I did and passed with an A. It's not all that hard.

He is a good professor, if u are willing to work for your grade his clas isn't that hard, speeches were easy. U just have to follow his guidelines. He was very understanding about the first speech nervousness and if u need help with anything, you can always go to his office and talk to him. He is always willing to help. No problems at all.

I hated this class just from the description. For his class you have to be a serious student to do well. Always be on time and prepared. Mr. Refue is very approachable and helpful. From day one he is very clear on what he expects from you. Great teacher if you are serious in your studies.

Great guy! Funny, lots of amusing anecdotes. I'm a neo-conservative with some pretty radical views on stuff, and got an A with ease; anyone who says he attacks them for not being liberal just has a bug up their buttocks cuz they couldn't speak well, IMHO.

At first i thought he was going to be an **** but after you sit there and listen he is a good person. he has his moments like everyone else when he doesnt agree but that doesnt mean he is not going to hear you out. if you need help he is always there to listen and actually sit there and think with u. i really enjoyed his class.

Anyone who does poorly in his class does not belong in college, because it is an easy class. If you do not make an A, you are plain lazy. He gives you specific guidelines in what he expects, follow this and you'll do fine. He really boosted my confidence. Great class!!

Everyone who talks crap about him knows nothing. He's quite honestly the best teacher I have ever had in my life. He was my friend (and still is) as well as a damn good professor. As an education major, I hope some day I'll be able to inspire a student like he has inspired me.

The class itself is easy as long as you attend class.Reffue is a total liberal jerk.If you like to ask questions do not take this class, because he gets frustrated at you. He also takes off 3 points if you are 5 min. late, even if you have a doctors note. He showes favortism.His beliefs are always right and he makes that clear.

Dr. Reffue is a great professor. He can be a lot of fun in class and you will perform well if you take his advice on how to do a better job on your next speech. Pay attention, do the work, put 110% into it, don't leave work until the last minute, and you will have no problems in this class. I recommend him to anyone and I plan on taking him again!

This class was very tough for me only because I'm extremely shy. If you are shy look out, and don't take the class over summer, because there's a speech due every week that way. This class was good for me because i want to be a teacher. So i needed to toughen up. He's def. a drill sergent. but in a good way. "buckle up guys"

Don't believe the hype - Dr Reffue may take a couple classes to get used to, but he is really easy to get along with and explains everythingggggg. It's relatively simple to get used to the format he wants in order to get a A in the class. Just dont be late - this guy doesnt play about that !

I was mortified about taking a public speaking class, but I honestly learned so much from what I thought was a meaningless class. I worked my butt off on my speeches but he gave me an A everytime. A lot of work to do, but in all honesty it is in the best interest for the student. Read the book, he gives book tests since he wrote it ;) .

Dr.Reffue was a good teacher I took his class in the summer so it went a bit fast. He is a hard ass if you break his rules, but he explains everything he wants from you so it's easy not to break them. People saying he is a liberal jerk are wrong, but he does have his opionions. Over all a great teacher, very helpfull if you just ask and a easy class

I absolutely love Dr. Reffue. I took him for public speaking in the spring&intro to mass comm in the fall. He is a fantastic professor. Put forth the effort in his class & you will perform well. Participate in group discussions in class. He takes the time to get to know students. He's my favorite professor I have ever taken & I highly recommend him

Honestly, this class wasn't easy to get through, but he made it interesting. I usually hate classes that have mandatory attendance, but I found myself actually looking forward to going to class. Participate in group discussions and stay on his good side and read the book and you'll do fine. He's definitely been one of my favorite teachers so far.

these other ratings are bs! they are probably just mad that they didnt do well in the class. he is a good professor and has a pretty good teaching method. follow the speech outline and you should get an A. for the comment 3 down, if you really consider yourself an adult you should be able to manage getting to class on time.

He isn't for everyone. A lot of people in the class didn't like his method but I thought it was interesting and kept me engaged. If you actually prepare, listen to his advice and improve from speech to speech then you will get an A or B. He was harsh on people who seemed like they weren't trying. Don't be late the first day like I was.

It's true that he is a hard-ass about his rules. It's also true that he give you a simple outline to follow that makes it EASY to write a speech. His instruction about how to give a speech is is also plain and simple. If you don't get an A, you're not very bright. He is also a liberal who swears constantly (which is ironic for a commun. major/PhD!)

He's not that bad. He's really strict, that's true, and he's extremely liberal. As long as you get to class on time and actually DO your speeches, you should have no problems at all.

Professor Reffue was fantastic! If you show an interest in your topics the speeches are easy and he's a fair grader. He's available for 1 on 1 chats during office hours and is extremely helpful. He makes class fun, I would recommend him!

I promise you that all the people down there were the ones who thought that you could just show up and get an A in college. Speaking well is a thing that very few of you know how to DO well. Reffue takes the time to discuss many interesting topics and it seems he has credible information on almost every subject imaginable. Follow the guidelines = A

Strict professor ALWAYS have to be present, no tardies more than 3 mins! But overall good professor though the grading is hard and so forth the class was enjoyable & I learned a lot. U barely use the text, only for 2 test. The class was interesting! I would recommend but be sure to get ready to work! This is not an easy A class, u cannot be lazy!

OMG! What an amazing man. Dr. Reffue is the single best professor at HCC. I was scared to death to take this class and he helped me so much to gain a lot of confidence. He's a kind, sweet, smart man and I love him.

One of the best teachers I've ever had. Very helpful, clear, and HILARIOUS. He promotes class discussion and loves a good critic. I recommend this class to anyone, I learned a lot about the mass media. It also doesn't hurt that the class is EASY.

Don't let the syllabus scare you! It's not as bad as you think it will be. This class was fun, you learn a lot, and you gain a lot of confidence if you just try. The tests are VERY easy, and the speeches will be fine if you just follow directions!!

What is ironic about Dr. Reffue is his anti-capitalism attitude, yet his book is required for the course.

Dr. Reffue wants to see everyone of his students succeed. Yes he knows his stuff, yes he expects you to perform but that is because how important public speaking will be for most people after college. He does not play favorites. If you are up there saying umm alot it is a clear sign you are not prepared. Reffue will give you a worldclass education.

This class was definitely my favorite. I was unsure at first about taking him, but Reffue is a good instructor. To get an A in the class one must have their speeches well organized, cited, and use transitions. Group discussion in the class were interesting and the 3 test were pretty easy as long as you pay attention and glance through the book.

Take Reffue! but attend his class and Do wat he asks and u will pass. Hes really not a hard guy to get along with I have no clue what these other people are sayin about how he thinks hes god? They must have not showen up to class alot or did somthing to get on his bad side I took him for public speaking. He gives out alot less work then others A-

I just finished Dr. Reffue's class this summer. He was smart, supportive and always there with an encouraging word. He helped me become a much better public speaker. He is a kind, generous, bright man who is dedicated to his students. Take his class. He's wonderful.

This guy is not how everyone makes him seem. He does think pretty high of himself but hes not such an ass. As long as you do everything exactly the way he wants, then you should be good to go!!

I agree with pretty much all of the good and bad comments on here. Basically, follow his guidelines for speaking TO THE T & you will do okay. I'm an A student and got a 72 on the 1st speech-it was a great speech, but I didn't follow every single little thing. If you do that (& you're a liberal), you may actually like his class. He's tough but good.

I would recommend him. He is one of my favorite teachers. He enjoys hearing people's opinions and give constructive and respectful criticism. He was a little intimidating at first, but over all a nice guy. He doesn't go over the text book though and that was kind of rough. Overall, I'd take him again.

Funny guy. As long as your speeches are well organized and you're within the time frame, you will get an A on the speeches. The final (insanely easy) is based off of his notes, so go to class. The 2 book tests are a little rough. Read the chapters. Overall a great class, great teacher, and pretty easy to get an A.

On the first day, you literally have to sign the syllabus saying you agree to his rules. He's strict, but if you don't like the rules, there are other profs you can choose. Follow them (to a tee) and you'll do well. Just give speeches from the heart, in the format he asks for and once you get around the "rules", class is a blast.. really :)

This professor is funny, but strict. If you are looking for an easy ride with this teacher, drop the class immediately. He is a good teacher, teaches you how to get past speaking fears, and you will end up leaving this class retaining what you have learned. As for work load, it usually would be lecture, read, research, write, have him proof, speak.

I took Dr. Reffue during my time @ HCC (Fall '07). I'm now a senior in the University of Tampa's Sykes College of Business & am applying EVERYTHING I learned in his SPC class when giving presentations! Take him for SPC if you want to transfer to a good university - you will thank me later!

He is a wonderful teacher. Not to hard with grading. Only had to do 3 speeches, 2 tests and a final. This class was not too hard. He really gets you thinking about some things in his lectures. I recommend this teacher to everyone. He honestly was my favorite teacher this semester.

Good professor. Speeches are easy as long as you cite solid sources and stay in your time limits. Tests are easy...never even read the book at all, just listen and scribble notes. Would not say he an easy A, per say, but he is not hard to get an A in...if that makes sense. I recommend him.

I was terrified of this class. I saved it until my last semester of HCC. This professor made me feel comfortable not only from his demeanor but by how clearly he explained what he expected of me. He was strict but very clear. I noticed the people who didn't do well did not follow his instructions. This ended up being my favorite class at HCC.

Dr. Reffue is a great professor. He really helps you prepare for the three speeches that are required for the class. He is strict but if you follow the rules you will be fine. He is very funny and very friendly. To sum up his class, you get the grade you worked for.

Great professor. He's strict, but clear as to what he expects from you and what you should expect from him. He wrote the book that the public speaking classes require, and has 22 years of teaching under his belt. His class will prepare you without a doubt! I came into his class scared to death of public speaking, and left confident and comfortable speaking in front of others. Lots of people dislike him, but those people are not trying to succeed; put in a serious effort, and he will love you. I got into one of the top colleges in the country with his advising and recommendations. Incredible teacher.

Best professor! I’m not big on speaking in front of a big group of people but he makes you feel so comfortable! Very funny and nice guy, you can ask him for help on anything! I actually wish there was a speech 2 or 3 that I could take with him just because he was so awesome!

I have heard that he is a difficult grader in terms of the quality of your speech (both preparation and presentation). I noticed he seems to grade students on their personal performance and improvements and not just the guidelines. If he is a harder teacher then it is worth it as you will leave this class better prepared or you didnt care.

Dr reffue wasnt that bad . a really straight forward teacher. Attendence is very stiff, so if you miss alot of class dont take him. Test are free A's. Do what he says on your speech and practice it and youll be fine. Not an Easy A, But earnable tho

Yes he is a tough teacher but an A is definitely attainable. Attendence is MANDITORY, if u have a problem coming to class do not take this professor. 70% of Grade is made up of 3 speeches, 10% two book test MC easy. Do what he says to do on the speeches and you'll do fine.

BEST TEACHER EVER! An absolute sweetheart, and funny guy. You have to give 3 speeches, and he is strict about how you should write and present them. If you follow his GIVEN guidelines, an A is easy to obtain. He will prepare you for the future and is always available to help you in his office! I absolutely love him and wish I could take him more!

Contrary to popular belief, he is a great teacher. It is a challenging class though, don't get me wrong. My first day I absolutely despised him and almost dropped out but as time went on he grew on me and now I am glad I took it! Be prepared to work hard but that is what college is about.

Class was great! One of the easiest classes I've taken. Class participation makes this class more enjoyable. Even though most students didn't say anything, John and I talked a lot in class. John, I'm only giving you a "Hot" rating because the 1st day of class there was no A/C and you were sweating your butt off. Great Class!!!

Dr Reffue teaches a COLLEGE LEVEL class, he doesn't teach nor does he have patience for High School shenanigans. Class is intense and requires a lot dedication and time; however, an A is attainable. Dr Reffue's lecture notes are extremely helpful. Practice your speeches thoroughly and you should be fine. Dr Reffue is an excellent professor overall.

On the first day of class Dr. Reffue comes out as a very tough and mean professor, especially after you read his syllabus;however,after few classes you will realize that he is an awesome professor. You can get A by showing up to class on time, take notes and practice your speeches. He is one of my favorite professors at HCC. I highly recommend him!

He is my favorite professor I have had so far, he is so funny, he makes class interesting and he makes you WANT to talk about important things. He does not sugar coat stuff for you and he has high expectations from his students. I would recommend him to anyone, if you are easily offended and don't have a thick skin though, don't take his class.

Alot of people say he comes off rude on the first day which I can see, but after the third or fourth class you will realize that he is a pretty cool guy. He does not baby sit you. You're in college, and should be able o follow directions and get things turned in on time. If you do not understand something, then you need to ask for help.

Gr8t prof. I dont get y ppl dont get As after the 1st speech. He gives u a paper whis grading criterea after ure 1st speech, & he clearly explaines in lecture what hes looking 4. Take rlly good notes when he talks about diff parts of speeches, then use that & the feedback sheet as EXACT outlines for ure speech. If u do that then ure GARANTEED an A

Good class, good teacher. If you show up well-dressed for your first speech and are well-prepared, you'll be fine for the rest of the semester.

He is strict in grading speeches and speeches are huge part of grade, but if you want to improve speaking abilities and are willing put work into planing speeches you'll pass. He goes off on rants a lot, but he's pretty cool. He's extremely passionate. Never used the online lab, and the book only for tests. Will have to work for A but learned a lot

Took his class, barely passed his class with a C. I'm all for tough but fair grading. Its a blow below the belt when you know speeches that should have been failing, based on time, get A's. If you want to experience favoritism 101, take this class. If you want a fair climb up the ladder doing better each speech, take a different professor.

Ok so I'm not going to lie I got home the first day of school and almost cried after his refreshing speech of how hard he was going to be. But as the semester went by I think this man is amazing! Hilarious! And cares about what's actually important. Don't miss his class and give kick ass speeches and you'll be golden in his eyes. Would deff retake

Dr. Reffue is one of the smartest people I've ever met and all of his assignments are straight forward. He always offered help on speech improvement and has much knowledge about many subjects. I really enjoyed his class!

Loved it. If you take speech over wintercession like I did, rent the book from amazon ahead of time and return it afterwards for a full refund instead of paying $90 at the bookstore. We did 3 speeches in WC and it will take up all of your time for those 12 days. Reffue expects effort and if you act like an entitled child he will treat you like one.

Dr. Reffue is a wonderful instructor! Don't let the first day of class intimidate you; he really is a very warm-hearted and caring person who genuinely wants you to succeed. If you have a bad habit of being late or skipping classes, do not take his course. It's college- do the work, go to class, care about your education and you'll succeed.

Great Teacher! He is harsh when grading your speech so read a couple chapters before preparing a speech. He genuinely cares about his students and is very opiniated on any topic. Be prepared to fully back up your research because he will question it.

Professor Reffue is an wonderful professor. He really cares about his students and he make you work for your grade which is a good thing because it will help you define who you really are. The class is wonderful and I would advise anybody to take it. You would truly enjoy it no doubt.

I was nervous about taking Public Speaking but Reffue does a good job in preparing his students to write a well organized speech. His grading is tough but fair, so if you put in the work to research and practice your speech you'll do great in his class. Note that attendance is mandatory and you won't pass unless you go to class.

Dr Reffue is a god. The greatest professor I've ever had and let me explain why. I took his speech class despite having SEVERE anxiety. I get panic attacks from people making eye contact with me. And I still got an A in his class because he personally worked with me to overcome the issues that ALL OTHER professors would rather punish/flunk me for.

This man is just the best!!! I took him over the winter session. He made a very difficult class bearable. He is very clear with what he expects. Do your work as told and come to class on time, you will do great.

Reffue was a joy to listen to. I took him over the 2-week winter session. It was pretty intense but he made it go by fast. I was extremely nervous to talk in front of an audience, but he makes you feel so comfortable. He is also great at remembering everyone's names . Although Dr. Reffue seems to know just about everything about everything and also voices his personal views and opinions about everything, he is actually a very good professor, overall. Definitely be aware that his attendance policy is excessive and over the top. If you miss class or are more than 5 minutes late, you are going to have issues.

I really enjoyed this class. He has a reputation as a harsh professor, but I found it to be the opposite. Don't act like a spoiled brat and you'll be fine. Also, don't miss class, turn your stuff in on time, and practice your speeches. If you follow his advice he gives on your speech critiques, you'll get a good grade. And have thick skin.

Although many others say he is a tough grader, I managed to get a 92.6% in the class with only slightly above average effort. he gives clear criteria to organize your speech with and if you follow it and don't skip class you'll do fine. My only complaint is the grading isn't fair. He had no bad things to say about my final speech yet gave me a 93%.

I was so nervous about taking public speaking but he made it so much fun and he really helps you prepare. As long as you come to class and actually practice your speeches with your powerpoints you should get an easy A. I would take his class again if I had to.

I took this class as a half summer class, found this to be very difficult. Take in a normal semester for sure. Prof. is very much a stickler for the rules, some classmates complained, but they were the ones late or not following directions that he was VERY clear about. Consider his class an example of the real world. Do what you're supposed to do.

Reffue is by far my favorite professor at HCC. I had him for Public Speaking last semester and he was very understanding of my medical conditions and gave awesome and thoughtful feedback on my speeches. There's 3 speeches with each one increasing the time limit. Because of this class I don't have as big a fear of public speaking as I did before! :)

This teacher is very misunderstood. Any negative opinions on this teacher, or people saying hes horrible are the same people who have 0 motivation and lack respect for their OWN education. He cares about the progress of his students. He pushes his students to be their best, I highly suggest this teacher all day every day.

After reading the comments on Professor Reffue I was sceptical. But, he turned out to be GREAT! Clearly he does not tolerate laziness. Which, of course if you portray you will get a not so hot grade. Take this class seriously as you should any other class and he will respect you. Good grades are not hard if you put in the effort. AS YOU SHOULD.

If you are looking for an easy class don't take this one; If you want to improve your public speaking abilities take this one. He is straight to the point and won't hold anything back. Honestly, show up to class (everyday and on time) and try to participate and youll be fine. He is very blunt and a no BS kind of person but he isnt a bad guy. The only way you will fail his class is if you honestly dont try on your speeches, but at that point you are just failing yourself. Overall a minimally challenging class.

There is plenty of bad reviews for this professor, but honestly, he is cool. I was walking into his class thinking that I was going to have to deal with a strict and mean professor, that was not at all correct. He is pretty chill with learning and his tests are easy. Do the work, participate, and don't be lazy so you can get a good grade.

Unlike many teachers, Reffue cares about the art of public speaking. He's very genuine. His assignments are very personal and help you connect with the class. This class is very engaging and the research requires lots of critical thinking. I learned a lot about myself and my abilities, and I attribute that to Reffue.

Professor Reffue has a straightforward teaching style - he'll be honest about your progress, but if you put in the effort, you can excel. The speeches are challenging but rewarding, and Unstuckstudy tools were a big help for my speech prep.

I had dr.reffue for my speech class 1608 and I honestly enjoyed it more then I thought he's a really cool guy once you get to know him and if you follow the guidelines for the speeches they're super easy to get a good grade on I don't know why people hate on him so much I thought he was pretty cool

People say he's a tough grader but as long as you show up to class and do the work you will pass the class. Tests are graded on a curve so it's easy to get an A if you study at least a little bit. The class discussions are extremely interesting, I wish i could go back to his class now and discuss current events with him again.

As someone who was really nervous about taking a public speaking class, he made this class super easy for me. His rating should be much higher. Reffue is very nice and as long as you follow speech instructions and what he asks for, this class should be easy for you. Tests are easy, I did not read book much and still got a decent grade.

Honestly, the best professor I have ever had. Dr. Reffue is the most caring instructor ever, he genuinely wants all of his students to succeed, but that also means that he won'y be easy on you. He is very understanding tho if you are truthful with him, so just be honest. Overall, easy class to pass if you actually put effort in and show up.
