Awesome teacher! Simply awesome. He really made history a lot more interesting.

Very witty, has a passion for history. He dresses up in a costume for one class in HISTORY I and has students act as well. Reminds me of Jon Stewart.

Awesome class. He makes history so intresting. You can't be bored in his class. Man, he's awesome. You will write alot on the test, but he gives you exactly what you are going to have on the test. Study and you will pass with an 'a'.

Amazing teacher! Very smart and funny man who makes history class exciting! Take any of his classes if you want to have fun learning something and get a good grade. There are tons of chances to gain extra credit too! He also has a good attendance policy and is just an all around nice guy. My favorite college professor so far : )

PRof. Reidl is extremely nice and interesting teacher!!!! He's not boring, his lectures are very interesting becuse he uses powerpoint. Take good notes and you'll be fine. Bring a voice recorder if possible. Take him..........

He is for real! There is no way you can go wrong. He is funny, helpful, encourages, contemporary(not does old history papas), and get the message across. You will not be bored and you will really understand history. More importantly with a little effort, you can get a good grade.

#1 History teacher hands down! Any teacher that can hold your interest in a lecture for 4 hours,yes 4 hours (winter session) is by far the best. Trust me, I hated history in high school. He makes you not only understand, he will make you love history. Wow! He's amazing! His class is like your favorite tv show you can't wait to learn more tomorrow.

I hate history and Riedl made it fun. His colorful power points and powerful lectures kept me awake- not something many history teachers can do.

Very strict with work that needs to be turned in. Does not connect with students and often ignores some of your comments or brushes them away. Other than that he gives excellent lectures and is extremely knowledgeable with the material

Great Professor. I took the Winter Session which was very long (4 hours a day M-Thu) but he kept class very interesting. He gives you options on test so you don't have to answer something you don't know or forgot about. If your ever thinkin about taking a colonial/civil war history course...take this professor!

Best of the best Professors, I have ever had. Being from India, it was hard for me to remember the American names and I could not dare to take the CLEP exam. But after listening to his lectures(or rather stories), I will remember US history for a long-long time. He should be given an award for the love and energy he puts into teaching this course.

Like everyone else said, he is the best, fun, energetic,and loves his reanactments. Ive already taken two of his classes, and loved every second. You have to work for your A and B, but its so worth it. So if you need humanities credit,TAKE RIEDL

Really well informed teacher. He engages the class constantly by always having a questions ready during his lectures, keeping you on your toes in a fun way. Very friendly and nice. Amazing professor! Take his class, he will teach you so much. You have to go to class but he is so entertaing that you actually look forward to his lectures! The readings are pretty difficult because there is so much of it but its doable. Trust me if i can pass with a B, anyone can! However, make sure not to copy homework! He WILL kick you out!

He is inspiring and you won't notice the time going by. I would be shocked if anyone complained Yes, it's a lot of work, but what class doesn't? As long as you turn in your stuff, study and review, you will be fine. plenty of EC opps. Reading is not textbks, but rather interesting novels! Also includes movie asmts which are a relief from reading.

What an amazing teacher and teaching! I have never felt in a class happy except his class. The time goes very quickly and that makes me feel very sad. I wish I registered this class for the spring so that I can come and listen to his lecture more and more. You will never find a teacher that teaches like him. Turn us on Dr with less work! :D

I wish he taught all my other classes. Engaging, passionate, mixed in with a little sarcasm, and rare theater quality performace time to time. Do away with the textbooks and just read short interesting books to do homework from. Must take good notes as that will basically become the text to study for the tests. Its a class I look forward to going

He is such a great teacher and so passionate about his subject. I took this class during winter break and he kept it fun but we def. studied alot. Alot of emphasis on the books and movies. He gave us alot of oppourtunities to show him our knowledge and he rewarded us by omitting certain tests or homeworks.

The Best. He is a high qualiry teacher. The course is not easy. But he will teach you everything. He knows how to teach. He will present the history to you like a story. You will learn in the class. Take good notes. There will be some reading. He is fun too.

Great teacher, but has fixation on Slavery. In course on History of US from Colonial time to 1865 that is all he talked about. Mentioned all sorts of minor irrelevant slave revolts, but left out the Alamo, pioneer migration to the West, Daniel Boone, Daniel Webster. He took every opportunity to point out great Americans who had slaves.

This man is a phenomenal teacher. Words cannot express. His imitation of Patrick Henry's speech gave me goose bumps. A genius, kind, HILARIOUS ("nerd alert!") and extremely helpful. Uses no text book so that is great! However, you disrespect him, walk in the middle of his lecture and interrupt, he will destroy you..Get him, you won't regret it!

Took his class in Summer, he's a great Professor. If you've never been interested in history, take his class - he breaks it down. Doesn't use a text for teaching, but assigns readings for which he provides the questions. It's a lot of work, but worth it!

Amazing lecturer who knows his stuff and makes it fun. But don't take this class unless you're willing to go to every class, take notes, and do a lot of assignments. Tough grader too, but I think its worth it if you want to learn about US history.

Dr. Riedl was definitely the best professor I ever had with history. If you're type that hates history, take his class because you will pass. He is fun and animated. Make sure you attend class, study your notes for pop quizzes and tests and you will be fine. The test format, I didn't like, I passed every test, but your hand will hurt afterwards.

I took and African American Class, and he was Amazing, He is fun and he does everything to make sure he does a good job at teaching. He doesn't want anyone to fail. There isnt any textbooks just novels to read. and take LOTS of notes or you work get an A. But everyone will pass with at least a "C" in this class. TRUST ME> :o)

Dude, this guy is like totally the best HS teacher I've ever had in my LIFE. Everything is so interesting and he makes jokes and does weird accents and stuff, and it's a fun time in his class. Lots of writing goin on, tho, so if you aren't a strong writer take someone else. I give him 5stars, but no chili pepper (he's not that hot).

Awesome teacher. You will love History after taking HS 136. Enjoyed his lectures. He's an excellent teacher. Very helpful but a lot of reading and note taking. But he the VERY BEST.

By far the best professor at MC. (I have never said that about anyone else). His lectures are always interesting, great speaker, smart, funny and keeps it real. He cares about every single student in his class. You'll work hard but you'll learn a lot. It also doesn't hurt that he's cute ;-) Wanna learn and have fun at the same time? Take his class.

Great teacher lectures are on point the man is a genius. You must study and attend all classes. You know whats on quizzes and test but its alot of information but he makes you want to learn and do your best. I am going to take another class with him. A lot of studying! Reading Yes. Homework is Studying lectures which does take time.

I LOVE Professor Riedl. I honestly HATED history, still kind of do. BUT, he made it SO much fun. However, there is a LOT of writing and taking notes. I'm surprised I didn't have carpal tunnel syndrome by the end of the class but he explains things VERY well and it's impossible to fail this class.

One of the best professors I've ever had. I'm pretty sure everything I learned in his class I was previously taught in high school. The only difference is, however, I could not remember a single thing I had learned in high school BUT I will remember everything I've learned in Riedls class- forever! HIGHLY recommend. Gnarliest prof on campus. Hes super engaging and he knows what hes talking about. He super passionate about what he teaches and is hilarious too. All he asks for in return is for you to do well and he actually WANTS you to do well. You need to keep up with the work and its a lot but I can promise you its worth it. This class was the most notes I ever took, but it was my favorite class I have ever taken!!!! Professor Riedl should be teaching at Harvard or somewhere amazing. He is top notch. Take this class if you want to become interested in American History but it has always seemed boring to you. You'll love it. Worth the notes and hand craps for sure

I was never one for American History, but Professor Riedl's class was incredible! We used the required books (but don't buy them without talking to him first!) for assignments, and any lectures for which we did not have time, he provided online. Brilliant class!

This guy is great, never met a teacher as good as him. You have to take African American History with him, it will blow your mind, trust me. It changed the way I see everything.

This professor keeps his students engaged. Two suggestion for passing his class. First you must complete as many questions as possible from the books you are required to read. Secondly know the key terms for the topics for his exams. Make every effort to remember names, dates, and why the event is significant. This will guarantee you a good grade.

He is an excellent and very engaging Professor. We did not use a textbook;therefore, test and quizzes were all based on class lectures. You are required to pick some paper back books though and answer questions. Be prepared to take A LOT of notes... and study. This is NOT an easy A class at all, but you learn a lot!

Very cool & colorful guy. He def loves history & want you to understand it & love it like he does. I really enjoyed his classes, they were full of life! You take essay style exams (3x), & read 2 book which you choose from a list & have to answer all Q's in essay style & detail format. He wants to know you understand! Easy A.

This class was where I took the most notes IN MY LIFE! But it was really enjoyable though. This guy will make you like history even more, you will learn a lot. I would not recommend taking this class if you are taking mandatory classes because it feels like you are taking three history courses, but you will enjoy yourself!

He is such a great teacher. I learned and retained so much its crazy. He is kinda a tough grader though and there was ALOT of writing essays. He also got a little crazy when people left the class not during a break-that was actually really funny. He cares less about dates as he does your comprehending the material.

I'be had Riedl for the pas three semester and he is pretty much the best. The lectures are focused and driven, but always willing to answer question. essay style test. Not too much reading overall. Makes lectures fun and incredibly interesting. Keeps focus very well.

Dr. Riedl is a fantastic teacher. He is very enthusiastic and engaging. The class is pretty much him lecturing the entire time and you taking notes; it's like this for every class. However, his lectures are pretty amazing. Ensures you understand the material and gives you clear guidelines for tests.

This professor will make you work harder than the slaves you learn about, however in the end he looks out. This is by far the most difficult class I have ever taken out of my 15 classes. I had this guy like 3 years ago, and I wanted to come back and make the point that he still sticks out in my mind even today. He is an amazing professor. His lectures are more like watching a movie. He expects a lot from you however, a lot of notes and reading, but everything is possible. He is definitely my favorite professor from all of college.

Dr. Riedl is a phenomenal educator. Yes, he assigns A LOT of work and reading, but they're always on point to his class lectures and it isn't boring or tedious like most history lessons can be. He humanizes the experiences of the past and is incredibly passionate about it, which shows in his teaching style.

He is funny, nice, and caring so he's easy to approach when you need help. HIST240 has been the best class that i have ever taken and i recommend that everyone else takes it too! If you want a good grade be willing to read at 3 books, watch youtube videos on the weekend & take great notes in & out of class. 3 tests (include final), 5 quizzes & 2 map quizzes. Lecture are so interesting that time will fly by. Take lots of notes, if possible record the class on a voice recorder so you can perfect them (you will have to get permission first). Riedl is an amazing professor! I'm secretively in LOVE with him. His lectures are good! I learned so much and enjoyed his presentations every day. He has an adorable son who he brings in the classroom sometimes. I def recommend his class to everyone. His 19th century American Utopias class is amazing. He's an excellent professor, can't recommend him enough. The assignments are long and it requires quite a bit of time outside of class, but he's the man.

He is by far, THE best Gen-ed professor I have ever had. You will learn a lot from his lectures. Although, he expects a lot from you too. especially if you take it in summer, it's not going to be easy.

I'm SHOOK. He's inspired me to pursue History further. Absolutely one of the best professors I've ever had at MC. BE PREPARED TO WORK HARD THOUGH. Not a LOT of work, but a significant amount. Really great person to be around, 10/10 would share a beer with him.

I was never a fan of history, but a good friend of mine convinced me to take him AND I AM CRAZY ABOUT HIM AND THE SUBJECT. The class requires some work, but it is SO worth it. Very lecture heavy but you leave class feeling so much more knowledgeable & he's pretty funny so class is very enjoyable. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH RIEDL. YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

Dr. Riedl, is a funny guy and he knows how to make his lectures fun, but that doesn't mean that his class is easy, in his course alone I wrote than I did in English 101-102 combined. Although he gives a lot of extra credit it was way too much for me and he often doesn't respond to e-mails on time. Overall, i liked being in his class.

He is Hilarious and he really cares for his students, he will make you work for your grade and there is a lot of work but its worth it

Proffesor Riedl was great! It's easy to tell he really enjoys teaching and he is a lot of fun but get ready to take notes in class and at home (from YouTube videos). Also, the book projects are time consuming. He offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. If you put the time in, you will get an A.

Awesome teacher! I really recommend having him as a teacher. Only bad thing was a lot of notes but it's honestly not that bad. A lot of memorization. Overall a fun class.

Great History professor, his lectures are note HEAVY, so if you miss a day you'll need someones help. His tests and quizzes are easy if you study and take good notes. Homework consists of watching video lectures and taking notes. His other HW consists of questions on books/movies he has chosen. Very great class, would take again.

Dr. Riedl was the best professor I have ever had. Not only did he make me fall in love with history, he showed me what a good college professor is. I felt so accomplished in his class and I learned more than I have in any other class. He is so passionate about history and makes all his students feel the same. Prof. Riedl is amazing!!!! He is so passionate about what he teaches and is very animated so his students actually WANT to hear what he is saying. As long as you come to every class and don't procrastinate on studying and the reading assignments, you will be just fine :)

I actually took two different history classes by Dr. Riedl just because of how awesome his class is. His lectures are fascinating and you will learn a lot. Best professor!!! I really wished he taught everything. His class is very simple, just take good notes, participate, show up to class and you'll do great on the tests.

Fantastic Lecturer. The best at MC by far. Class is extremely easy as long as you take good notes and attend class (no textbook work, test material from lectures). Of course you also have to study your notes. If you think this class is extremely hard, I don't want to know how you're doing in your other classes.

Amazing amazing amazing professor. You might be surprised that he's a white guy teaching African American history, but I promise you, he won't disappoint. So funny, so inspirational, so engaging; He really is the best history teacher. The lectures are heavy though, so make sure you take good notes. And if you need help he's easy to access.

The best professor ever. I learned so much, he makes his lectures interesting. We did not use any textbooks and the exams were based on his lecture. We sometimes had video notes to complete. I will say, the exams are tough, so study! I will be taking his other class next semester.

The best teacher I have ever had. I always hated history courses, I failed one and needed to improve my grade, took his class and he completely changed my point of view. He demands your attention and makes it such a fun and interesting experience. I'm taking another class of his this coming semester.

Dr. R has designed his class so you would not use a textbook, instead you will be watching Youtube videos that he has recorded. It's all related to history, you can earn an A if you do all the assignments.

I took Hist 236 in the spring of 2018. This is the best professor so far. Be ready to read novels and write a lot. He gives out youtube notes every weekend and you have to read two graded books before the end of the semester. He is generous with grades and gives extra credits. Be ready to laugh and be emotional. Its all about slavery.

I took it in Summer I. Dr. Riedl is very kind and patient. Tests have a lot of material, but he gives you a lot of time to prepare. There are Map Quizzes, Tests, required readings, YouTube lectures, and a small class Debate. He makes the material flow smoothly. History isn't boring here.

Best teacher Ive ever had and Im usually uninterested at school. You have to take good notes and actually learn but his lectures are as entertaining as it gets. Not a ton of extra credit but enough to get you over the hump (3.5%) and easy enough to get.

Great lecturer, best I've had, but you have to take notes! Don't take him if you can't listen + write. Vid notes on weekends, necessary to pass but gives you extra credit. You have to read a couple books and answer questions, which is the toughest part, don't wait til end to do those! 4 exams + various key term and map quizzes. Great class overall.

Hate history with a passion but Riedl has made my experience amazing. He is always prepared with his lectures. His slides have no words meaning if you miss class there's no way you can get notes unless you ask a classmate. Attend every class because all he does are lectures. Do all assignments that are given & take advantage with the extra credits.

Dr. Riedl makes history one of the best classes you can take. The tests are difficult and he doesn't grade very easy but he genuinely teaches you a lot and gives you options for assignments and test questions. Study, take advantage of easy assignments and extra credit and you will do well. Great guy and phenomenal teacher with great lectures.

Dr. Riedl is my fav professor Ive had at MC. He has a lot of personality and loves his students. He even assigns a student each class to bring snacks! The only bad thing is all the work outside of class. Several YouTube videos and you have to read books as an assignment. Overall, I really enjoyed having him as my teacher!

Most impactful MC professor. I was wildly depressed with no motivation for education when I enrolled in this. I dropped all my classes except for this one. in a weird way this class actually helped my depression. He's an amazing lecturer and such a good human being that really renewed my passion for things. I never appreciated history until this.

You will regret not taking a class with him! He is extremely inspirational, funny, relatable, and has a great personality. I look forward to his class every day and I can't wait to take another class with him. I strongly suggest taking 19th Century American Utopias. It is super interesting and will change your perspective on society forever.

Everything is great about him except his books you have to read as assignments. Do not have to read a textbook he makes video notes you have to watch over weekend. Tests and quizzes are straight forward. Watch the videos and take good notes and you will get an A

Quizzes and test are straight forward, he gives you the questions that will be on tests and quizzes before. Take good notes in class and from video notes. Super chill guy as well.

HIST235 and 236 were the best classes I ever took at MC. Just don't skip class, take hella notes and start the assignment questions early on. He's amazing. Take him, seriously.

Riedl is by far the best professor I've had at Montgomery College. He inspired me to pursue history for my major with his passion for the subject. BIG on attendance. But Provides entertaining lectures and literally tells you exactly what is going to be on the test. Take notes, study, read the books he assigns and you will pass this class.

Great professor. Care about his students passing. The workload may seem intimidating at first but by the end of the course you will have a clear understanding of the 19th century. If you don't do the work you won't pass. Make sure to take detailed notes in order to answer the questions on the study guide.

My favorite MC professor! I always look forward to his lectures as they're very engaging, smooth, and fun. He adds his personality into the lectures and relates to his students which makes learning fun and easy to understand. Exams are also very straight forward as he gives you a review sheet with everything that you need to know. 10/10!!!!

Dr. Riedl has been one of the best professors Ive ever had! Lectures are fun and interesting. Hes super accessible outside of class and responds to emails very quickly! His whole vibe/energy is genuine and hes super compassionate. As long as you do your part for his classes, hes willing to work with you. I would definitely recommend his classes

Dr. Riedl is an incredible professor. In the classroom, he captures your attention through the entire semester. The assessments were not challenging if you study the notes from lecture, Powerpoint and YouTube. When we switched online and he maintained the energy of the classroom. If you're interested in intersectional civil rights, he's your guy.

My whole time at MC Professor Riedl was by far the best Professor I had at this school. He definitely wants to see his students be successful and Im glad I took his class. Always go to his lectures or you may miss important information that could possibly be on the quizzes/exams. Communicate with him as early as possible if you dont understand.

Dr. Riedl is a hilariously fun professor to have! I greatly enjoy his personality, he never makes the class boring. With this it is a lot of work to do for his class but it's always some mind-blowing information. If you like time consuming work with a great vibing professor to keep you interested he is the one!!

Dr. Riedls is awesome & super funny. His lectures are amazing and it makes learning fun. The assignments do involve a lot of reading & writing but arent super hard. You can fail your tests if you dont stay on top of your notes, so stay organized and study. He truly makes you earn your grade but wants everyone to succeed. 10/10 for sure!

WOW! if you're a lazy student, or someone who procrastinates a lot you'll either fail this class or learn how to be a better student. His classes are absolutely a ton of work, but Dr. Riedl makes the class so fun and interesting, it's for sure worth it! Be prepared to take a ton of notes, and to learn mind blowing pieces of history!

I loved Dr. Riedl and will take him again! This class woke my love for history and I'm now switching majors. Dr. Riedl has a passion for History and he is great at teaching it. I took his Civil Rights class and It was a 10/10 Make sure to read everything he posts online since he offers extra credit. Go to his office hours and take good notes.

Cannot recommend this professor enough! There is a fair amount of work but everything you do makes the rest of the class easier. The course is extremely well taught and Dr. Riedl has an expertise/proficiency that I have not had in any other professor.

Exams have questions about events not mentioned in the notes. You'll lose points if you know the answer or not. Heavy on note taking too.

Professor Riedl is an excellent lecturer who is genuinely passionate about what he teaches. I have taken several courses with him and loved each class! My only comment is that if you're planning to ask for a letter of recommendation, please be warned that he may not submit important documents, letters, etc. in a timely manner.

This professor is genuinely passionate about what he teaches. However, if you're a student like me who struggles with school, and its workload, this class is NOT for you. The note taking during/outside of class is nonstop. The tests are EXTREMELY difficult. This class will consume all your time. Overall, this class is tremendously overwhelming.

He's an amazing professor. There's so much I never knew about civil rights in America and thanks to his passion for this subject, it made learning such deep topics so much more impactful and enjoyable. I extremely recommend taking his class. You won't regret it.

This is by far the best professor I have had at MC. His lectures are so interesting and very organized! I have taken him twice, the work/class layout was the same for both classes. No textbook, everything is lecture-based and he will make you choose one book that you will have to write a paper on or take a test on.

I've grown to absolutely love American History because of him. He's extremely engaging and passionate about the topics, you can tell he loves teaching it. I think the enjoyment of the classes definitely depend on how much the rest of the class cares and participates. Needless to say, I'm hoping to take another class with him next summer.

Took his class last semester. Amazing professor!!! Literally such an easy class if you pay attention and do all the studying needed for his class you're sure to pass with an A. You aren't allowed any electronics, but when you take his class, time passes by so quickly you forget about your phone and enjoy history!!!

One of the best Teachers I ever had. Made me fall in love with history again and I considered switching engineering to become a history major. I took his class a few months ago. The summer class was definitely a lot of note taking, but his story telling lecture styles are unique. The traditional type, no online exam bs professor, which is great.

He's a great professor but THERE WILL BE A LOT OF WRITING IN HIS COURSES. Be prepared to use 2 full notebooks.
