One of my favorite instructors at DeAnza. He is extremely helpful and makes sure everyone knows what is going on; he also posts grades almost every week so you always know where you stand. Attendance is not mandatory but you get points for showing up and you do not want to miss his class its always on topic and interesting. Loved the class!

Great instructor, Just make sure you attend to class because there will be random extra credits for those who attends. He wants everyone of his students to pass his class, so he'll help you to achieve your goals. Do your homework, get extra credit, and pass his 4 exams with C average and you'll pass his class with B or maybe higher. Recommend!

He doesn't take himself too seriously, but he takes his job seriously which is a relief because he comes across as a very down to earth guy with pride in his work. Learned a lot about law in this course. He offers plenty of extra credit and attendance is mandatory or you lose points! His tests require studying; however, I got an A on the first, and a C on the next two and still passed the class with an A+ because of extra credit! You have to try to fail his class. He keeps updated grades weekly! Take him!

Took him for Business Law. Don't take his class if you have a class immediately after, you WILL be late leaving since he goes over the homework at the end. He's good otherwise. Lots of Extracredit, friendly, willing to work with you. A little difficult for students that have jobs, but I work 30 hours and still made it work. Take him.

If you are to learn and enjoy LAW in an introductory course, take it with him! Class attendance and participation are the key to success. My class was for 2hrs Tues & Thrus in the evening. The lectures were interesting but they just seemed too long. In order to pass you definitely have to read the chapters and learn the terminology if you want an A+. But it's pretty easy and he gives lot's of extra credit too. I would totally recommend him!

He has realistic expectations for an introductory business law class. Doesn't expect you to know every little detail. He basically focuses on the bold words in the textbook. He tried to make class fun with music & humor, but the lectures felt long. Not an interactive class. But fair grading & not difficult to get a good grade. Recommended.

I really did enjoy John's class! Really funny guy who makes Business Law more interesting by relating the subject to real-life scenarios. He offers enough extra credit for you to bump your grade up. He has four exams all multiple choice with 20/50 questions being vocabulary that we learned throughout the quarter. Take him! :)

3 exams, 1 final, 5 HW, group work everyday, attendance count for points, ALOT of EC. Final is another exam. Exams consist of 50 Q's, ABCDE & T/F. he lets us know in advance that 20/50 Q's are business law terms learned in class. the HW can be confusing so be sure to listen when he explains the case. EC can boost ur grade by 10%. I got an A. GL.

Very straight forward teacher and class. Easy A if you do what he tells you. Not too much work either but he helps you learn the material well. As long as you go to class you will get an A.

Getting an A in this class is a breeze. Test are multiple choice and about half of the questions are vocab. I didnt pay attention in class and just reviewed the online powerpoints and managed to get an A. Class is dry and lectures are long but attendance is mandatory.

Mr. Ritchie is the best teacher in De Anza. I think over 90 % of the class received B or better. Bunch extra credits and just do what he ask you to do and you will get an easy A. YOU MUST DO THE WEEKLY HOMEWORK. Almost more important than Exam. Very nice in person. Funny and loves group work. Will take him again. Attendance helps grade.

BEST BUSINESS LAW Professor you can EVER find. He has a good personal stories (related to the topic), he has couple easy exercises that will help you to understand the topic, and he make it easy to learn all those Business Law terms (you'll have to learn them either way, no matter what teacher you choose). HIGHLY Recommended!!

Ritchie is a great guy that really is dedicated to teaching. If you show up everyday and do exactly what he says to do, you'll easily get an A. Half of my class ended up with above a 90%. I would jump through hoops to have his class.

Out of total 100 points: 10 points for 100% attendance, three exams (15 points each) + Optional Final (only if you need extra 15 points), Couple extra credits (10 points), optional group review project (4 points), 5 homework assignments (5 points each, and Business Law Terms (5 points for simply submitting its definition. 1 term for each person)

Took bus. law with Prof. Ritchie before transferring to a UC and it was the best class I ever took. It was cool how he played music at the start of every class. Lots of group work & you have to go in front of class at least once to read a definition. Tests are MC. He's a fair grader and big on extra credit. Stick through it; it's an easy A+!

Ritchie is one funny dude. Loved his class. His tests can be challenging but they're doable. For some reason, all the foreign exchange students already had his exams so befriend one of them and they'll give you a copy of the exam. If you don't, you might have to read the book or pay attention in class. Lectures are boring but great exprience.

Lectures were long, but Mr. Ritchie always cracked me up. He gives a ton of extra credit, participation counts and hw assignments are always discussed before the due date (so all you have to do is listen for the answers!!). Best Business Law professor at Deanza. Super chill class. Class is out of 100 pts, and there's enough extra credit to bump you up an entire letter grade. Lectures are pretty interesting. Strict on homework grading though. Each HW is 5 points but he'll take off points if it's not exactly what he was looking for. Great professor. Take his class!

Awesome Professor. Just realize he's a lawyer and not a full time lecturer. He knows lot more than the book covers. With that said, he really wants students to understand the material. If you grew up in the US, the class is probably easier since it's US law. International students might find the reading and his lectures a bit more challenging.

You should spend time to read Study Guide and try to do the practice test before the exams. Most of them will come from the BLTs (20), MindTap Homework (6 questions) and the remain come from study guide and outside sources but related to the lecture. You will easy get an A if you really spend time for this subject. Easy quiz and group project.

Ritchie explains every detail that there is to know for tests, HWs, and other assignments. He really provides a lot of EC oppt for you to get an A. He provides study guides, uses interactive games and humor to explain/reinforce law, AND GIVES OUT CANDIES!! Overall, you SHOULD NEVER feel that you are on your own in his class bc he's so caring!

Out of 96 credits at this institution, I think I can fairly say he is bonafide. He can lecture, he has good legal anecdotes, he is kind. He once made a mistake, and of his own volition made a point of apologizing in person. There are very few things one can genuinely judge a mans true character on, but this makes the list. He is an honorable man.

Ritchie is organized, accessible, and good-humored. 12/50 students got an "A"/"A+". The spreadsheet he updates and shares makes it easy to track and predict your grade (1 point 1%). A lot of the exam questions are from the study-guides he provides and the online quizzes. My only gripe: he won't say anything to students who are distracting others.

I took his class in Winter quarter 2020. Hes such a caring teacher. He doesnt like when other students distrAct in class, but always willing to answer any questions from students. He's a really nice professor. He's really relaxed and caring but he doesn't like people talking in class or distracting other people. He uses many real life examples. As long as you study the study guide, you will be fine. He also gives lots of extra credits. He gives 10 points just by attending the classes (each test is worth 12.5 points)

Workload is doable but if you're not good with deadlines then you should avoid this class as it has various deadlines to remember. The class was interesting and more than textbook use, there's a need to purchase cengage to complete assignments.

I had no regrets taking Professor Ritchie's course despite, it took place in an online setting. His lectures were hilarious and insightful, nothing too boring. Total of 4 exams (all mc), some light reading, mindtap assignments, kahoots, discussions, etc. It may seem like a whole lot, but is do-able. I certainly learned something from him.

Here's the most realistic review you'll probably see: he's a good teacher, but the class isn't nearly as easy as it seems. I'm a straight-A student but I barely avoided getting an A-. The mindtap hw will set you up for the exams, not his lectures! AND DO ALL OF THE EXTRA CREDIT! that's the only way i was able to get an A. Good luck! he's a good guy

Professor Ritchie on the other hand made me actually like the class and the subject. He teaches passionately and his tests were not too hard. An amazing option for BUS18.

Before taking this class, be prepared to be on top of EVERYTHING or you won't get a decent grade. Workload isn't crazy, 2 assignments after each class that are easy & every other week are 2 more on top of it. The case studies are what gets you, so be on top of those. Exams aren't awful. Try hard, he believes you have to earn it. Lots of extra cred.
