Did not know what i expected from this class. Completely holistic approach to literature, has unique and interesting insight, helps you to understand the literature. Structure was lacking, but this man knows everything and tries to give it all up to you. You will pass the class, and it can be incredibly interesting.
Very helpful and informative teacher, and all around neat little guy. He had a really interesting approach, and covered a wide array of reading materials, which really brought a lot of fun into the class. Very conversational lectures, and lots of input if in need of help.
Mr. R was a great teacher. As long as you cam eto class and did your assignments you sould have no problems with this class. He was so great I took him for both English 1A and 4.
cool class. Interesting readings. Didn't like the Poetry, it is hard, but John makes it as enjoyable as reading John Donne can be.
Took class last summer. Interesting style. Easy to talk to. He wants you to think for yourself and dosen't punish you if you disagree with him. But he will challange you to defend your ideas.
Easy Class, interesting lectures. You don't really know what grade you have in the class, but if you stick to the end, come to class, and do your work, you'll be fine
amazing teacher!!!! take his class super easy and kind
Great Teacher, Very thought provoking
He was just an O.K teacher to me. Didn't learn ANYTHING all semester. I suggest you don't buy any of the books! Not even the one he sells you. I used it one time to color in the pictures. I ended up with a B which makes me mad since I tried hard participated and didn't miss assignment. Everything turned in on time. He plays favoritism a lot. BEWARE
Runs class as a workshop. To do well you need to do the drafts and the final papers on time. Easy to get along with and seems to really care about the students. Not a hard grader.
Love Him so much... Cool and amazing teacher i have ever had... I would definitely recommend taking him.
So nice and totally cool, he acts like a student, didnt really learn much about english and my longest essay was 3 pages! (if I felt like it), and "tests" were easy, no midterm or final. If you want an easy A make sure he knows you, and do the work.
Interesting books. 4 formal essays and seveal short pieces of writing. Tries to make you say what you think and then defend it. Doesn't stress about lazy students...says he "doesn't want to be a cop!" Do the writing and partciapate in class and you will do well!
Critical thinking class. Read short essays about fallicies. Then read books like 1984 to discuss whys languge is corupted. Very interesting guy. Hes a famous photographer and has written a lot about Shakespeare.
EASIEST A EVER! I never went to class and pretty much bs my essays and got an A. Super easy grader. Funny and intelligent guy! Really understanding and caring guy if you fall behind or need to turn in late assignments. Completely knows what hes talking about! Really sarcastic guy just dont take it personally. Take this class hes awesome!
EASY grader on essays. Read alot of books and plays through out the semester, you definitely dont need to stay on track with reading b/c he doent really care. if you do the readings his lectures on the reading are super funny and he has a outlook that most english teachers do not! I loved him and his crazy opinions on the books, plays, and society
best teacher ever. smart knowledgeable and funny as hell. He will not let you do poor or fail in the class! you may think his class is a joke sometimes and easy but he leaves it up to you. if you want to do well in the class then you learn a lot.
Every teacher should be like him! honestly he is super fair & wants the kids to do well. He gives you interesting essay topics that r very general so you can make it relate to you very easily!when he sees you are improving your skills you get higher scores. Plus he gives you great feedback on each essay so you know what to improve on! great guy! :)
Very interestingclass. I was really worried about my writing. Im not a english major. But Mr. Robinson make the class interesting and always relates the reading back to the real world. A smart and funny guy who really cares about his students.
I had him for Eng 104. I liked him then and I still like his style of teaching. Talks to the students ...not "at" the students. Really down to earth. Not self-important like some other profs.
Came to class dreading freshman comp. But robinson makes it as good as it can be. I work days so it nice to have someone good teaching the night classes.
Great, great teacher! I have never been a strong writer, but he seems to have a way to reach inside and pull good ideas out of the students. He's honest, gives good feedback and is funny! I know I owe a large part of my grades in other classes because he has really made writing and reading much easier to me!
I know Mr. Robinson from a Eng 118 class at DVC. He wasn't teaching Freshman Comp at DVC so I followed him to Las Positas. (Does that make me a stalker?) He is smart funny and really cares about the students. Wants you to do well. He's a published writer What's the say: Them that can do...others teach" He does both!
Had Robinson for comp late semester. Tried to get into his Eng 7 class but he is always slammed with people trying to add. Really smart and funny guy. Treats students really well. If you come to class do what he asks you will do well and learn something about writing and college success.
Great teacher ! he helps you find out who you are as a writer. Has a good insight to writing where he is easy to understand and follow. Take him you won't be disappointed!
The Development that took place was beyond expectations, He reaches out to the student to get your mind into the subject. Any college would be lucky to have this guy as an instructor!
5 Essays total and not a very hard grader on essays. You still need to put some effort in to the class, but he also lets you rewrite essays for a better grade. No exams.
Took class this summer 4 longish essays in a 6 week class. Last paper was research paper. Robinson is funny and easy to get along with. He really likes the students and the readings. Very smart but doesn't make you feel dumb for not knowing something. He's there to help. I got a lot from his class.
Do not take his class over the summer. My friend took him at a regular semester and it was all good but I did over summer and it's not good. His instructions are confusing and he asks for students to turn in papers strictly on the due date but let's it slide like 2 more weeks...not the best English teacher.
Most awesome teacher ever! Made the class so fun and interesting! Your grade is mainly essays, and the final in his class is a research paper/essay. By far my favorite teacher at las positas, I'm hoping to take English 7 with him.
he's a great teacher. i don't know how he's a teacher because the man knows everything. he's kinda hot too. there's usually only 3-5 essays, no finals. he grades fair, he lets you develop your character and doesn't try to shove opinions down your throat like other teachers. i wish he'd teach a shakespeare class.
Great teacher! Took his English 1A class and his English 4. He's interesting and honestly wants to see students succeed. If you have questions he will answer them and help you as much as possible. The essays always have a good subject to write about and he allows you to express your writing creatively. I recommend taking his class.
I highly recommend his class for students who have a desire to learn and improve their literary skills. I've learned very much in his class. His lectures are fantastic. He is very flexible, thoughtful, intelligent and willing to help. He has his way to stimulate your thoughts and literally drag you into literature world. I wish he'd teach Eng20.
Just finished today. Interesting readings. Robinson really cares that you succeed in the class and makes English interesting for the first time ever in my school experience.
Professor Robinson knows how to teach a class. He likes to talk to all his students and makes a friendly environment for everyone. Time flies by in his class.
If you're looking for a professor who isn't there to turn you into an essay writing robot, and urges you to find your own voice, take Robinson. Doesn't have ANY graded material besides 4 or 5 essays throughout the semester, so do well on those. Does like to rant, some days I wondered if the class had anything to do with english. Good times though.
I loved professor Robinson! He was honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. His class is easy but he still challenges you to find your own voice through literature. He often says that the only teacher you have is yourself. Smart and super intriguing guy. I just love listening to him talk and that's hard to say about people. Take him!
I took him two semesters straight, english 1a & 4. I can honestly say that if you are willing to learn then Robinson's teaching technique is the best. This class is no doubt an easy A if you apply yourself and you can learn a lot through his essays. He's one of those teachers you don't want to disappoint because he's so cool. Very funny as well :)
I took both 1A & 4 with him and he's a great teacher with alot of good insight and stories to share. Our only assignments are essays on the books we read throughout the semester 4-5 easy to do. Provides interesting reading material: Bukowski books, Othello. Easy A, great discussions.
I had Professor Robinson for 1A & 4 and he's a very good teacher. Engaging discussions and interesting reading material, a breath of fresh air. Only assignments are essays about reading material which are not hard at all. He's lenient and a sarcastic joker. Classes are funny, interesting and random at times. Highly Reccomended.
English is my second language, but I changed my major to English after taking Robinson's 1A class. I've just finished my Eng 4 & 7, and got As. I promise you'll love his lectures and you'll learn a lot. He is fantastic! He gave me a lot of help and confidence. I thank him, and I strongly recommend his class.
best English professor ever hands down
totally different approach to literature and it works. only class I bought the books for cause he makes them sound good enough to buy.
super passionate about english Read 1984 easy book badly written learned alot
Best english teacher! The class is literally consisted of writing 4, 2-3 page double spaced essays.
Robinson is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He's incredibly knowledgable about everything he teaches and is pretty funny. I always did good in English classes in the past but never really care about it. After his class, I'm rethinking my major and really into books again. He teaches a class that is not only rewarding but it's fun too!
Robinson is a great teacher. He is very lenient with any other commitments you may have that restrict you from attending class. The class is split into discussions on vaguely relevant topics each day (which you will be required to contribute to) and 4 short papers. The final is simply handing in your last paper. He is a fair grader. Take his class!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Really good teacher. Interesting readings and great class discussions. If you do the work and listen you will do well in the class. Worth the effort.
You will like taking english after taking his class, and he's hot.
I took him for both semesters of English because I don't think there is a better teacher out there. Lenient on giving add numbers, which is a blessing. Always talks about interesting topics during class, so it is in your interest to show up, but attendance is not taken. He has a great sense of humor and all assignments are reasonable.
One of the best instructors I've had so far. He makes the class interesting. He picks on you randomly but its nothing personal.
One of the best! He makes the class interesting, he also picks on ppl randomly but doesn't make a fool out of you. His assignments are well explained.
Read: Bukowski (he said it was the first time he'd used Post Office in class), Death of a Salesman (his comments on DoS were interesting), Othello (he knows Shakespeare inside out). Read a lot of interesting poems. The more you talk the more fun you'll have. (You can say anything in his class and not ruffle his feathers.) Makes eng fun.
He is very helpful. He will give you advise not only for the class but anything in regarding your future education. Had some great motivational talks with him. He accepted all the students trying to add in the class and allowed late essays without a penalty. 4-5ish essays total, some small group assignments in the lab.
He is pretty good teacher but talks a lot. He is pretty funny and picks on random people but no hard feelings. He makes a long class go by pretty fast
Robinson is one of the most approachable and helpful professors I've had at LPC. He's incredibly friendly and well-versed in a wide range of material. His reading selections were so engaging that I actually didn't mind doing the homework (most of the time).
Best prof ever. Cool dude. Super chill. Probably took everyone who waitlisted cause he's that chill. He's honest and blunt about how he feels about your writing style. Interesting class. Would take again.
I have never met a man more unafraid of speaking the truth. Says what he thinks and answers every question, no matter how weird. You can say anything to him and he doesn't flinch.
Cool class. Robinson is a very wacky guy. Smart and fun to listen to. Robinson "fun fact" (The Saxon alphabet had no j, q, or v which is why "w" is called 'double u' and not what it is, 'double V' Did you know that? I didn't.
He's my favorite professor. I never missed a day of class because he's that cool. God bless this man!
Robinson knows his students have lives outside of class, if you have any issues just talk to him. Attendance is somewhat mandatory. Do the minimum reading and you'll be fine. Says wacky things in class, but just to challenge you to stick-up for yourself The way he presents controversial material is not offensive or demeaning to anyone's beliefs.
Just finishing the class. I'm not a reader but I liked the readings pretty well. Take this class to have the "Robinson Experience." He is really different from any other teacher Ive ever had. I liked it a lot.
Really wants you to participate. Very wacky guy. Says what he thinks and lets you to do the same. If you ask and try to answer questions you will do well and have more fun. Very interactive class. Give great advice about how to succeed in college. I would take his class again!
Professor Robinson is great and he will add as many people as possible. You can talk anything in his class. And what's more, the textbook is not required in his class. I hope that I can take his class again.
Professor Robins is a fantastic teacher. He cares about students and wants to see them succeed. His lectures are fun and will cover lots of topics.
He's awesome
The more you give the more you get with this guy. If you sit in the back and act disinterested he'll call you on it. (But he dosent much care either. ) Really interesting readings and he tells you what he thinks makes good writing. Cool experience overall.
Good teacher, definitely learn to speak up or he will call you out. Participation, and completing your work is important. If you are late, he'll ask you why, in front of the class. The more you answer his questions, the less likely he is to call on you in the future.
He is very blunt. He will call on everybody whether your quite or not. His class was very easy. One of the easiest classes I've ever taken. The readings are interesting. If your looking for an easy A in english, Robinson is the guy to take.
He is simply awesome. All of the lectures were so enlightening. He does call out to everyone, so be prepared to say whatever you think. He grades students' assignments very generously as long as you card to get a decent grade. It would be hard to make him give out a grade lower than a B-. There is a bit boldness to him, but it's what makes himgreat
He really cares about the students Lets you rewrite papers for a better grade. Says "you learn to write by writing, not by listening to English Profs talk about social justice issues." Readings are really cool. He says what he really thinks about everything and wants you to do the same. No P.C. bullspit with this guy! Cool!
Took his class over summer. Dude is a character. He likes to talk, but hes interesting to listen to. He grades fairly, and his assignments were paced out pretty well. No complaints.
John was my favorite ENG professor ever. A real free thinker who wants his students to do likewise. Had us do 5 essays, and gave us considerable latitude on the topics. Said we'd write better if we were interested in our subject. Lots of interesting reading in the class, and good discussions on material. Will take my other ENG courses with him!!!
Absolutely love Mr. Robinson, by far the best professor I have ever had at las positas. I looked forward to going to his class, he makes class fun. He's very sarcastic which may be difficult to get along with but I loved it. I enjoyed writing to begin with but fell in love with it while in his class and declared as an English major because of him
He is the best! University quality! I feel English classes are always intense alot of essays alot of reading. Nope, inspires you to write your own topics. Easy grader. Down to earth. Took him in summer assigned a book which he ended showing movie for.4(2pg)essays. 5min presentation for final. No exams.
I LOVE this man. This is definitely not your typical English class, he actually talks about real world examples and doesn't just make you read out of some textbook without having a good discussion. Be prepared to speak, he likes to listen to everybody and their own opinions. He is hilarious and doesn't censor himself around his students. Perfect 10
Just finished the 1A class. This is the best English Class I've ever had. Robinson is not the usual blow-hard grouchy English prof. No p.c. crap from this guy. two thumbs way up!
Wrote five papers. Not too hard. This guy is what a college teacher should be. Smart, encouraging, and really cares about his students.
I love this professor! He sincerely wants his students to succeed. I took him for English1A in the summer. His essays are not hard at all. He just wants you to be genuine and put in thought. You get to choose your own topics. The class was very interesting overall. Thank you for teaching students that there are amazing professors!
I took him for English 1A. He is a excellent professor. He gets everyone in the class involved. I really like him. We had to give a speech at the end for a final, but that is to help us in life. He helps you out and gives you pointers. I like his real life approach to teaching. He cares about what you have to say. He is very smart and knows a lot.
Just a really good take her, very interesting, easy essays, pretty much a gauraunteed A.
Love, love,Love this man. Seems grouchy but that's just an act. Very caring. Wants you to to learn.f you show up and talk in class you will do well. Says you lean how to write by writing. Very gentle grader. Wants to encourage you to find your own voice. Give him a chance. You will get a lot from his class.
Great english teacher! Really liked his teaching style and his approach on reading/writing/public speaking. I liked how casual he made an oral presentation seem. He made the idea of presenting less stressful/scary. He's also a fair grader and very funny (he was able to make the whole class laugh). Highly recommend.
His one the best professors he gets everyone involved in class, very helpful, do the work easy A
If you are a math wiz and suck at english (like myself) take this professor. I am awful at writing but still got an A. 5 essays, all pretty short. Essay topics make them easy and interesting. Don't take anyone else, you'll regret it.
Great experience. Really smart and likes English. Likes to teach. Like the students.
If you talk in class you will do better. Five essays that build on one another. Not hard and you can rewrite for a better grade. You can say anything to him, but you must be polite to other students. Very interesting and talented guy. Fun class, for an english class that is. lol!
A handful of essays, nothing too hard. Grades very easy. Take him for a easy going english class that does not require "fluff" work like reading quizes and bs. I wish he was teaching English 4! He does require you to buy his reader and check out two books but you rarely read the books. Very easy class.
Take this guy. Standard workload, discussion board, 4 essays + a final research paper. He provides a minimum word count but it's really a loose guideline. Unfiltered, non politically correct conversations are encouraged... he's good at getting you to think in a raw/unrefined way. Participate in class and turn assignments in on time, you'll get an A
Professor Robinson mostly lectures and it won't make sense to you until you begin to write essays. No textbook used, but he does print a large packet for you filled with readings. He makes everyone speak in class. No midterm or tests just four essays or so. Great professor over all.
Great teacher. Your work load isnt a whole lot, lots of reading. Hes very knowledgeable in his teachings and also makes writing relevant to todays topics.
Best professor you will ever have in your life real talk, Had him for summer school and had very interesting lectures and kept you involved, he had a little bit of history in his lectures and I enjoyed that alot.
Robinson is honestly so fun and easy to keep up with. His lectures are always relevant and involve the class's insight. The more you talk in class the more he gets to know you. There aren't any tests or quizzes, just a few essays (interesting topics) Super fun class overall!
Professor Robinson is a very funny Professor, he is no bull and speaks his mind. Very fun class and really allows people to grow as writers.
Robinson was one of the best educators I've ever had. He made showing up to class actually enjoyable, while at the same time giving us entertaining lectures based off of his own experiences. The essays were fun to write because they weren't about some book, they were based off of subjects we as students have experiences with.
One of the best teachers Ive ever had. He made coming to class enjoyable. Knowledgeable Proffesor and also entertaining. He does care about his students and wants them to become great writers. We had a paper due every week and on topics that were enjoyable. I would definitely take him again. I wish there were more teachers like him.
His class was actually fun and interesting. Classes are 99% lectures, but actually enjoyable and helpful. There are no exams, just a few short papers and a relatively easy final project. As long as you do the work and put in a little effort, you'll get an A and you'll actually learn something.
Hes a great professor and hes hilarious. I looked forward to his class because his lecture was interesting and I enjoyed learning. I took him over the summer and it was a 3 hour class twice a week and it went by fast.
Best professor. This guy is an angel in disguise. 3 essays all semester and just showcase your writing skills his grading is forgiving!! hilarious guy
Great class that was interrupted by virus. Went to zoom. Still a good class. Robinson is a good choice for English class. Very funny guy!
Taking his class was something that inspired me and made me more proud of my writing, his discussions were my favorite part of the class. Hes a straightforward person, but very kind and cares for the students grades. His classes were my favorite ones during the semester. Definitely a great teacher!
Professor Robinson is really interesting to listen to in lecture and a pretty lenient grader. Not to many assignments but it is an english class so expect some character analysis papers. I enjoyed his book selections.
One of my first two professors at Las Positas, and I couldnt have been more happily surprised. Hes very straight forward while also not being afraid to joke around and will help you help yourself (thats the best way I can put it). Of all the english classes Ive ever had, not only was it the most interesting, but it was also the most helpful.
Super easy. Class was assigned 2 books that aren't used much. 4 essays and 1 presentation for the semester. First 2 are simple personal stories. 3rd essay is about expanding a word's definition. Final essay is researching a famous photo. Presentation ain't hard, it's just explaining photo's backstory and popularity. Barely any HW.
He has an unorthodox class setup. He has long lectures with little homework. I enjoyed each of the Essays we did in class. If you listen to his lectures you will learn a lot about critical thinking. The way he teaches his class gives a new perspective to many things. Also a funny teacher.
He is a fascinating person. Highly recommend.
I took Professor Robinson's English 1A class as an accelerated 8 week course. He was great and chose great books to read for the class. Just do the work in an honest manner and you should be fine.
One of the best professors. Actually an English class. No social justice like snowflakes offended by name mispronunciation articles to read. Thank God. Lectures are fun. Cool guy. Knowledgeable and worldly, you will learn new things in his class
This class was... interesting... I took this class over the summer and he must have been really busy that summer because we only had a few assignments and two essays... and that was it... We didn't even read a single novel... I don't know why or how that happened, but hey I'm not complaining because that was the easiest A of my life.
His class is extremely easy, but the professor himself is not a great person. I think he's an out of touch old man, picking on students and frequently sharing his reactionary beliefs. I'd recommend taking the class if you can deal with the lectures, but if not, then you probably shouldn't take it. I dropped out myself.
Doesn't use a textbook. (thank god). Says "a textbook is someone else's idea of how to teach writing." He has written books and articles and has a lot of ideas how to find a topic and write about it. If you come to class and pay attention you will do well.
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER!!! Class is easy
Once you get used to his teaching style it's pretty smooth sailing!
Professor Robinson has a unique teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class is a breeze. The readings are interesting, and Unstuck study was a gamechanger for study prep.
Took his eng 1a class in 2022, one of the most best teachers I've had, take this class
Honestly a really chill teacher. He calls people out. He is a little odd.
