Did not like him one bit. Lectures were incredibly boring and hard to follow. Nice guy but if you need to take him, make sure it's NOT in the morning. Bad move.
For History, he's pretty easy. Little class work involved, and not hard to get a high B low A
I have one word - Boring. Not a good morning class - if you can stay awake you will be fine - do the reading and it will not be that bad - the hardest part will be staying awake - nice guy though
real nice guy... your grade is based on 4 tests which are real easy if you read and pay attention in class [which is real hard to do...HES SO BORING !]... but sooooo nice !! expect no work...but boring lectures
IS IN LOVE WITH HIMSELF

Dr. Roney is one of the most helpful educators that I have ever come across. I have read a few negative reviews from students in HI 101 and I was disgusted by their ignorance. Hopefully there will be more serious students in his classes next semester.
Dr. Roney is an extremely smart, nice man. Yes, he can be boring, but hey, that's history. He does his best to make mundane topics like history methods and criticism bearable. I highly recommend him as a thesis advisor.
EASY IF U DO THE WORK...VERY BORING....DO NOT TAKE IN MORNING SERIOUSLTYU WILL BE ASLEEP

Although he can go off on tangents, he is a great prof but an excellent senior thesis advisor. He was so patient with me and advised me to write a paper I am damn proud of. Very nice to talk to and always willing to help a student !!!
Extremly boring and is a tough grader! READ WHAT HE GIVES YOU TO READ his test questions come from the notes and some are really specific from the reading esp. the essays! They say dont take the head of any department and I would have to agree in this case
eh, it was a history class.
If you listen to what he says is gonna be on the test you will do fine. Good teacher and explains things well, just kind of boring because it's history.
Can't stay on one topic for more than a "second"!, can be boring! but if u take good notes and do the readings, u should be fine.....................................I guess!
He is a good professor, and is usally willing to help if you are having difficulty. Frequently goes off on a random tangent. A lot of work though, mostly reading, and a paper (10+ pages)but all in all hes not too bad.

It was an art history class of the Low- Countries, it ws a great class, we went on a firld trip to the Bruce Museum and he really got into his lectures and they were quite comical to watch. Also we watched slides of art during that period. Great Class
Argueably the smartest man alive
Roney is a great professor. He is very clear and understandable. He is a very intellectually funny person. He makes the class interesting and has many stories and facts on the class and the material.
nice guy...but really really boring...sometimes i feel he just likes to hear himself talk...i highly suggest not taking this at 8am!!!
Very smart guy, knows his stuff, can be very boring and hard to understand what he means most of the time. Don't take this class early in the morning or you'll regret it more than that last ****en hookup.
DON'T take a class from a man who WRITES the text...very stuck up, from Brookfield...all he talks about is his daughter....hes a waste...your ENTIRE grade is tests.
An interesting professor to say the least. His lectures are usually boring and the readings are extensive. You don't really have to do a lot of work, as he gives a study sheet for the midterm and final (only 2 tests). The hardest part is the research paper, which is extensive (15+ pages)
Took him once a week, def failed my first test bc he is so UNCLEAR! He's a nice guy don't get me wrong, but his teaching is to die for, so boring he just lectures and he can go on and on and on, MC questions on test are so OUT THERE. def not worth taking a core class from
This guy is HORRIBLE. The essays on the test are easy but the multiple choice is ridiculous. The man has no idea how to teach and relates everything to coaching. Very Very Unclear
HORRIBLE Teacher, and i hate history but i always did well in it. He was unclear, even when you ask him to explain it again, he goes off on non history things, and he marks horribly on the essay part of the test

I think most of the reviews of Roney have been unfair. Yes he can be boring but he is such a nice guy and very smart and enthusiastic. He is willing to give you as much help as possible and his midterms and finals have review sheets. Lots of reading but you really don't have to do it.
Roneys the man--thats all there is to it
Alot of reading but he gives study sheets. He will do anything he can to help you. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches!

too hard, dont take him!
he is very enthusiastic about what he teaches, and he is always willing to help students. his tests can be hard though and he gives pop quizzes on the reading. overall good guy
this class is so hard! GIVES A TON OF READING! he really cares about what he teaches, and if you really like this kind of stuff, he might be good, but otherwise, def too hard of a professor.
He gives tons of reading. If your taking the class for a requirement, take someone else! It might be ok for a history major or minor, but not for anyone else. He makes everything way too hard!
SOO ridiculously hard! def. DO NOT take if you're not a history major, if you like history, then he might be good bc he's really into his teaching, but he assigns WAY too much reading, and really hard exams! AVOID TAKING!!
redic hard too much reading never makes sense and pretty much the worst teacher
Roney is the man but sometimes i dont know what he is talking about. He knows his stuff but he goes off and just talks. He is a nice guy, but the only thing that stinks is the 15 pg paper at the end of most of his courses. Take him... U r guaranteed a C-B+
Prof. Roney is a good guy, do the work and take notes. You have to study for the test, the multiple choice tests are very detailed. Always willing to help and wants you to do good in the class.
Roney is extremely passionate about the material he teaches. If you are in the honors program, you are required to present two seminars during the semester on primary source text. He is a fair grader, but you do need to study a lot for his tests. Overall, a good guy and good teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR A PRE REQ. SERIOUSLY, UNLESS YOU ARE A HISTORY MAJOR AVOID THIS GUY. He is a decent person, but a lousy teacher. He likes what he teaches, and I would have too, if had we had been tested on any of it...all the tests were "primary sources" that he refused to go over in class. Attendence is still mandatory...
He is a horrible teacher and his tests consist of way too much material to possibly know for a 30 question test. Not helpful when you go to him for help. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
tests are on sooo much material and only 30 multiple choice questions that usually have more then one right answer. Boring class, papers are hard.. i would recommend not taking this class.
MOST HORRIBLE TEACHER AT SACRED HEART!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LITERALLY THE WORST TEACHER AT SHU. i am currently sitting in class...on rate my professor, probably going to have to take the course again-i was in honors history all through high school. now i'm failing. enough said.
A true asset to the Sacred Heart History department. I had an interest in History prior to the course, however, the lessons taught throughout the semester brought clarity to the subject matter. Makes excellent use of analogies, and is extremely helpful during announced office hours. Put simply; if you do the work in his class, you will do well.
Very Very boring. My class is only an hour long, but it feels like i am in there forever! He is a nice guy and very into what he's teaching, but I wouldn't take him again.
He is SOOOO BORING! hate this class and I really hae no idea how i will pass. First quiz i got a 46 and now the term paper is due over break and I know im going to die on this paper. NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!
this is the worst history class i have ever taken and honestly he is the worst teacher i have ever had. he talks more about his life than the material and his tests are usually not even on the powerpoints in class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE HIM AS A PROFESSOR!!!!!
DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS. he is terrible. i hate this class i dread going to it everyday and i am currently failing... STAY AWAYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!
I love history ... it's my major but I would not take him again if I did not have to... he enjoys what he teaches but I hate going to class it's boring and he confuses me most of the time... DON"T TAKE HIM!!!..
Incredibly smart and caring, however it was difficult to understand what he was talking about because it was an intro class and he had never taught one before.
He gets really excited about the material, but nobody in the class cares. It's boring stuff, do well on the essays, and the exams are ridiculous.
Dr. Roney gets an unfair amount of hate here. He just tries to be thorough in his presentations. If you are not serious about history or would prefer less material, then I do not recommend you take him.
His class was literally impossible he would assign papers, not explain what he expected and is a really hard grader. His class is so boring and you will have no idea what he is even talking about, do not take him!
I've taken both HI255 and the common core history with him. Class is super boring, and he often goes on tangents about his life. Didn't use the textbooks. He's a hard grader, but if you follow his instructions as closely as possible you'll probably get a decent grade.
Roney is by far one of the greatest professor's i have ever had, DO NOT LISTEN TO NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!! He is a bit unclear because he just gets excited and goes off topic. He is extremely helpful though if you ask for it. A lot of papers and writings but a very fair grader. HIGHLY recommend taking him if you can!
Intelligent enthusiastic lecturer, but prone to tangents. Lot of reading- powerptslides, primary sources, few key pages in txtbook (in that order). Papers are challenging- kinda a tough grader. Definitely gives help if you ask for it. Heaviest workload compared to other classes, so not an easy A, but if you work at it it's do-able.
just don't do it. he's a ranting, smug man and he will lecture you into class-time slumber. he's boring, and the quizzes are quite confusing. overall, he's not a great teacher, the class is entirely primary source readings and note-taking. a lot of notes. he's very dry, and it's EASY to doze off.
Fighting Irish. No bad comments. EASY A. All you have to do is attend class and don't fall asleep. Sure, he's very monotone, but he is very fair in grading and follows his syllabus. You don't need to pay attention, just wiki the terms on the study guide and do class readings. Exams are word for word the study guide - no surprises.
Hes an older guy who is very monotone and boring in his lectures, but if you pay attention you will do great! There are only 4 quizzes all year, 3 essays, and 2 colluquia papers. The final exam isn't collective and if you study for like an hour before the quiz and pay attention and follow the study guides youll do fine in the class
Professor Roney is one of my favorite teachers at SHU! He loves what he does and knows what he's talking about. He's really enthusiastic about what he teaches and his lectures can be very long, but they're usually interesting! As long as you participate often and do the required readings you'll be sure to get a good grade. ALWAYS willing to help.
Professor Roney has good intentions, when he lectures, he's really trying to get the point across of what the topic is about but however it can be dry. He's very nit picky when it comes to papers but like I said, he has good intentions. He's very passionate about what he lectures which can be boring for someone not interested in the subject.
Did not like him, one of the hardest graders and his quizzes would ask about the smallest most unimportant questions. I would never voluntarily take his class again.
Just don't take his fighting Irish class. I don't know how is in others but in this he is just plain confusing. His lectures are all over the place he can't finish a though before starting another. You can tell he knows everything about what he's teaching he just gets so excited and loses the students.
Very Boring and just talks. He doesn't help you with work.
He talks the entire class period and goes over powerpoints. Gets very boring but he is enthusiastic about the subject. You are assigned three primary source papers and a midterm and final exam. No tests other than the two finals. Could not receive higher than a B no matter what i did.
Nice professor, hated his class. Long lectures will keep you till the last minute, harsh grader. Hard midterm and final
Based on what people said I thought he was going to be a lot worse than he actually was. He lectures the whole time but he tries to make it interesting. There isn't that much work and he is very understanding. You have to do three papers the whole year and you can choose when to hand them in and the topic, and then the midterm and final.
The class wasn't that bad. Still he was extremely sarcastic and rude. There were 3 papers only 3 pages long not that bad. Mid term and final was basically the study guide. He was really into his lectures but they were all over the place and didn't make sense. He's an easier grader. Attendance is mandatory.
He really isn't that bad. I was expecting him to be worse from reading these ratings. Yes he is VERY boring and it is extremely difficult to focus in his class. But he is a nice guy, is very understanding, and is willing to help you with anything you need. He is clear on grading and wants to help you improve each time you receive a grade back.
Needed to take this course to fulfill a requirement but not for my major. Lectures are not too boring but can be monotonous. I didn't expect the level of writing that was done in the course. On top of that, an extremely tough grader. Overall would not take courses with him again. If you are a history major, makes sense. All else, stay away!
Prof. Roney was the hardest teacher I have ever had. He assigns papers every week and grades them very harshly. He also expects you to know people and topics he has never even brought up and then gets mad that you don't remember it. The research paper was also killer (2000 words, around 8 pages).
Easy teacher. As log as you go to class you are fine. The hardest parts of the class are the midterm and final but he tells you WhT u need to know its iust a lot of memorizing. There are 3 papers not bad but a lot of effort to get an a
Prof Roney is a good professor. He is very passionate about history, but if you don't like lectures don't take him. Grade is made up of 3 papers(not an easy A), a midterm, and final. He gives a study guide thats an exact replica of the midterm and final, its just a lot of memorizing. Definatly need to work for your grade but he is very helpful!
I do not recommend professor Roney. His syllabus was extremely disorganized and often contradicts itself. He also made us purchase a very expensive textbook that we never used once during the semester.
nice guy, wants us to do well, but is very lecture heavy and has homework due before every class on blackboard. Classes were both on zoom and in person. There is a lot of writing but he has everything on blackboard in advance. I also formatted a paper incorrectly and he emailed me feedback and said I could resubmit it late without penalty.
I would NOT recommend professor Roney to anyone. He is rude and is a very hard grader. His papers are almost impossible to write with all of his requirements. I did not choose him I got stuck with him because it was the only class left. If possible do not take him.
If you want an A, don't take this class. there is weekly homework that takes FOREVER, and it's on lectures that haven't even happened yet. Don't buy the textbook what he wants to cover isn't in there. His essays are almost impossible to get above a B+ on, he will ALWAYS find something that is wrong and take off at least 10 points for little mistake
DO NOT take any class with Professor Roney. He is sarcastic, rude, and will come at everyone's throats for not answering his questions. Lectures make no sense and he makes us buy a textbook we don't even use. Homework due before first class every week and has to do with a lecture we didn't even go over yet. Extremely tough grader.
Gives a lot of homework and a lot of papers. The assignments aren't that hard just more so time consuming, but he is strict with grading. Don't think you'll ever get a 100 or anything close to it on an assignment.
The workload is insane. 11 page paper as a final paper and 3 papers before that paper, read a whole book, and the midterm is based on material that we learned in class, but many words are not in English so you have to learn new words for the midterm and write how they are significant to the history and then 2 pages for the midterm.. Just daunting.
I did not need to take this course since my major had nothing to do with this class and second year courses are specializations of the field, but despite it all, Prof. Roney really takes his time to work with you and if you show that you're trying to do well, he gives you a lot of his time to help you through it. He's a great coach and helps a lot
He's a nice guy but his class takes some getting used to. For homework, you need to interpret the slides on your own to answer questions which he grades pretty tough but leaves comments to improve. Long heavy lectures. Wants you to do well but also wants you to put the work in. Attendance is MANDATORY your grade will drop if you skip.
The hardest porfessor I've ever had. Doesn't know what he's talking about and his lectures are 80 slides long and mostly in latin. He's unorganzied and never knows what he's talking about. His homeworks need to be 600 words for each question and he grades every mistake. His papers have to be only a way he likes and you won't get a good grade.
Prof Roney is knowledgeable, lecture-heavy. Gives homework about his cryptic powerpoints before teaching lessons. Goes on rants that do not even relate to the lesson. Gives multiple 1200 word papers. No midterm. Have to teach the lectures to yourself before doing the homework. Makes you buy an expensive textbook and you do not even use it
he cares too much about what you do in class. while he takes attendance, he does not care if you show up. gives cryptic powerpoints and has you do homework on the powerpoints before he lectures upon it. does not explain powerpoints well and is hard to pay attention to in class. do not take him unless you have to
He is not good. Emailed him and didn't respond. He gives homework on cryptic powerpoints. Have to figure out what he is trying to say in class. Easy to get distracted. Gets annoyed about what you do in class. Grades homework harshly and does not give good feedback. Does not always talk about topic, and sometimes gets off-topic. Do not take!
Honestly, He gets a bad rep, When I took him he was very enjoyable, yes the powerpoints were quite boring, but he came around in the end. I did good on all his assignments when I thought this class was going to be impossible. He's not that bad if you do the work.
Professor is super sweet and tries to make the class laugh. The issue is his homework and teaching style. If you hate lectures, don't take his class because he reads off the powerpoint the whole time. His slides are hard to understand and he expects you to do the homework before we learn about the unit. This is very difficult in a harder class.
While he is a nice guy, that is where it ends. He is not good, not knowledgeable, doesn't respond to emails. Cares more about dingle than teaching. He reads off a PowerPoint that is hard to understand and is mostly in Latin. You have to do homework on the PowerPoint before class and grade it tough with minimal feedback. STAY AWAY!
literally just talks at you the entire class time, there's like no engagement and its so boring.
Tries to make you learn French during his French Revolution and Napoleon class. Lectures for the whole class and goes on tangents that made me, a history major, bored during class. If you take him you're just going to have to stick it out. To his advantage, he is very knowledgeable about the French Revolution but I wouldnt take this class again.
super tough grader. Can't understand a single lesson he teaches. basically begged him for help and what to do better and told me "what's not to understand" and "check the syllabus". I physically couldn't do well in his class. don't take him.
this man needs to be in a coffin. why am I failing this class basically bc he's so old he cant even read. he doesn't speak English he speaks latin which idek u could speak. he said if I was ur basketball coach you guys would miss the layup. yeah im missing the layup bc ur a bad coach.
Not only is here your teacher but he will also say he is your coach!! All this man talks about is hockey and basketball and how much of a sweat he was at them when he was younger. His teaching doesn't make sense your gonna need to know latin and French to understand his lectures. His grading is not fair what so ever but you can chatgbt all essays.
Terrible grader and almost impossible to get an A in his class. If you want to pass with a somewhat good grade you should definitely attend extra help weekly because it definitely helped my grade (from B- midterm to B+ final grade). Refers to himself as your "coach" and is a very interesting guy. Definitely would never take him again.
He is a nice guy and means well, but he is old and strict. He is a tough grader for homework because he wants details but it is manageable (coming from nursing major). There is no exams except the final, but there is 3 papers and written homework assignments. He also gets annoyed if people don't participate or answer his questions.
HE DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO TEACH. I've never had a professor more all over the place than him. He relied solely on slides with nonsensical words and sentences, which were too long to take proper notes. He constantly says, "you know where I'm going with this..." and then stops explaining?? Terrible professor, do NOT take. Taught me nothing.
