I LOVED this professor. This was the first class I have had in community college that actually made me feel like a student in college courses. He is an extremely funny man who keeps lectures and class interesting and really makes you think. He makes you work for your grade but I highly recommend him. My grammar lost me the most points on my work.

Professor Rose is really a great person. He's straight forward and you can easily follow along. He gives awesome feedback and is very helpful. Show up to class, participate and do all essays and you shall pass no questions asked.

I loved his class . He made his student feel comfortable and he gave great feedback. If any of us did not understand something , he made sure we understood before we left his class. Take him you will not regret it.

Professor Rose is great!! In high school I never really learned how to write a proper essay, but he went back to the basics with my class and it really helped a lot! We had 4 essays overall in the semester, if you do all of them there's no way you won't pass. He's straight forward and gives great feedback, he'll make sure you understand what he's teaching. Professor Rose is a really chill and down to earth man. He's also really funny and charming and will help you with anything you don't understand. The first couple of classes he literally asks you what you want to learn. Also, there are easy extra credit opportunities, so basically just do what he tells you and you're fine.

Favorite Prof hands down. Very Open dialogue in class, he gets you thinking, has you challenging your own beliefs, makes class very interesting.

If you do the work you will pass. I took him online this past semester and I loved the class. The class this semester consisted of 4 essays, about 15 discussion boards, and a final. I would definitely take another one of his classes again!

I took ENGL 1301 with Professor Rose and he's great per usual. He truly does care about his students and will help you until you understand. We had 3 essays overall, one of them being a research paper + presentation. I honestly thought I was going to die writing it but he made the process SO much easier. He always has opportunities for EC. 10/10!

I took Engl 1301 online and we definitely had a lot of work. There was a discussion board due every Sunday and if you didn't have it in by the next morning you would get a 0. But he still gave you the opportunity to turn it in late for a grade of 50. We had four papers(including the final) to do.

Professor Rose is Great !

J. Rose is one of the best teachers I have ever taken, he is serious about what he does, but not overly serious. He is so open for questions and explanations and it doesn't hurt that he is so cool and super cute. If you do not pass this class then you didn't want to.I'm just saying.......

Highly recommend him. Took him for both of my English and Literature. He is real funny and cares for his students. He allows you to do whatever you want in classes, so if you end up with a bad grade it's on you. He is very passionate about the subject he teaches and gets frustrated when people don't take it seriously. He was the best prof I had.

I have taken the same professor for English 1301, English 1302, and English literature 2327 and he is great. The professor has discussion boards weekly that are serious for his final grade. There will be readings in this course that may have some type of reflection. But overall I believe hes the best English professor in cedar valley college.

A really great professor! The class was easy as long as you did the homework every week. The class had two papers and a group project and a few pop quizzes only if he felt that the class was not reading. Take his classes !

Super easy class, discussion boards simple but very good to learn from. He's very quick in replying if you email him for help. It truly shows he cares for his students grades and does the most to help.

Professor Rose has inspired me to be humble, like other teachers that continue to motivate me to become a teacher. I appreciate everything he does for us and I feel less pressured in his class to do a paper at a higher level than I am capable of.

Professor Rose was simply amazing. He answers emails in a timely manner, funny, sympathetic. You can get 5 points extra credit for going to the tutoring center for most assignments. Grades are always kept and updated quick, and you always know you grade average throughout the semester. 100% recommend.

Probably one of the best English teachers in the college. He's funny, really chill, and laid back. He gives you plenty of time to finish assignments and allows you to spend most of the time in class doing them. The more work you do in class, the less you will have for homework.

I enrolled in 4 of the 5 courses Rose offered during my time at CVC (It would have been 5/5, but CVC messed up). No regrets whatsoever. If you don't care about English, that's totally fine, just participate. The man really cares about the subject and his students. The least you could do is care as well. The more you care, the more fun it will be.

Great Professor, I honestly am not a fan of writing essays but he was so helpful. I always had a great time in his class, didnt mind showing up at 8 am for it. He makes his assignments interesting.

Such an amazing professor. He is very smart and is always there to help. made the classes fun and as easy as possible.

There's probably not enough positive things to say about him. He's really upfront, honest and loves to challenge you a little that allows us as students to think for ourselves. He takes it back to critical thinking 101, which has not been taught for a while, or at least in my opinion when it comes to preparing students for the real world.

Professor Rose i very simply. Best English class I have taken. However, be prepared to do a discussion board weekly and a paper every two weeks. and the final is timed (80 min), but you don't have to use sources for the final. if you stay on track with the syllabus the class is a breeze.

Professor Rose is a great professor that will give good feedback for future writing. There are at least three writing assignments. The homework assignments can be completed in class. Be mindful of your time and ask question. He will make a joke but really sit and help. Course taken in the summer so keep up and follow deadline and you will be fine.

Professor Rose is amazing! I learned a great deal by taking his class. As a mid-age returning student, I admire his sarcasm and humor as teaching tools for students to use in the real world. Professor Rose has crystal clear expectations on timeliness; make sure your grammar is as expected or you will get points deducted. Very concise lectures.

Professor Rose is good but I wont take him again his sarcasm gets annoying.

Plus(s): Online avoids the tedious tardy/absence point deductions. DO the tutoring for extra credit, it means the difference between making a B or a C on the Essays. Study up on MLA formatting because that's how you are graded. Conducting Peer Reviews are a requirement for each paper so be prepared for that. Topics are fun, not boring. Take him. :)

After a rough English 1301 class (with another professor) I was nervous going into English 1302, but professor Rose was great! His quick email responses made my life so much easier. He is also a pretty quick grader so you know how you're doing right away. MLA is important but the grading criteria is always clear! You'll get the grade you deserve!

I love my online class. My prof help me a lot he is understanding and he works with his student. If you don't understand he make sure you do. My prof is caring about his student.

Mr. Rose always encouraged his students to strive for more. He is sarcastic and funny but serious about self-improvement. I can say that I loved his class because I was challenged to always give my best. He isn't one to give false hope, only truth. I respect that a lot.

Professor Rose is a good teacher who encourages critical thinking in writing. At 45, this was my very first experience taking a college course and his teaching style helped my writing significantly. Prepare to read and get active on the discussion board.

By the end of the class I got in the groove of it finally (I took an 8 week class). The assignment instructions could be clearer and more forward. I also feel as though lectures mightve been helpful throughout the class. Overall though I did learn a lot! Just be sure to double and triple check instructions.

Professor Rose gives great feedback the will help you advance in your next assignment as well as encourages to make new mistakes. The main focal point is punctuation I think it a pet peeve for him. There are 3 writing assignments and 10 or 11 discussion boards. Use your time wisely as there is a lot of reading.

Great Professor! I took Professor Rose for both English 1301 and 1302. He is upfront about assignments and grading criteria. Make sure to read the syllabus, all the information for his class is there. He responds to emails quickly and is readily available for any questions. You will work for your grade, no HANDOUTS!! Pay attention to due dates.

I truly enjoyed this class. Rose was great. He provided feedback on my essays that helped me in future assignments, so my grades kept improving. I got an extra 5 points for tutoring on my papers. Class was interesting and he explained everything well. He really just enjoys class. I learned a ton about writing in this class! Definitely taking 1302!

I like Prof. Rose he is really understanding. I took him for both English's. He gives you a lot of time in class to do your work so you don't have to do it outside of class, so it's really up to you if you want to do the work or not. His grading is always up to date. But overall, he is a really good professor, definitely recommend him.

Professor Rose was down to earth and easy to talk with. He allows his students to turn late work in. Professor Rose is all about student-peer evaluation on most assignments. He also allows students to turn in their assignments in, a bullet-points form when, the assignments is not connected to a required easys.

Loved the material we covered. I feel like I learned a lot. He's on point with communication. Work load isn't too heavy. Even if you got a C on all of your papers, which I believe we had 3 of, you'd still get an A if you turned in all your discussion assignments in on time. If assignments are late there's a 50% reduction on grade.

This class was easy and the professor was great! Our assignments only consisted of two discussion boards a week (reply to 2 other classmates) and the answers to the questions were easy to look up. We had like 3 projects and two of them are due at the end of the year so DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!

One of the best professors of all time. I took him for English 1301 & 1302. He's so fun. There is a lot of emphasis on the grade you get for finals, so that can be frustrating. He grades hard, but appropriately. Prof. Rose is funny and a great professor. You will enjoy his class! Please take him! You won't regret it!

I took Professor Rose's American Literature course over five weeks. He is very organized, responds to emails within 24 hours, and give great feedback. Be prepared to read, analyze the text, and think critically. As long as you complete the assignments and manage your time well, you'll do fine!

This class truly made me think outside the original view I had of American culture. Prof Rose is easy to contact and responds within 24hrs. While it requires a lot of reading it's worth it to see American literature throughout history. Also, be ready to discuss those readings during the lecture. 10/10

This is a class that you will have to put effort into if you want to pass. Coursework is doable, but it can be a lot as the professor . will have you use your critical thinking skills. 5 TSIS discussion boards, 5 regular DB, 2 essays, and a final, which includes a research presentation, an essay, and a course reflection assessment.

One of the best English professors I've had. He was very clear and explained each assignment in detail, and you will always get a good grade as long as you put in the effort and give your best work. He also doesn't take off tons of points for little corrections like a lot of English professors do.
